Why do you think that they (whoever was responsible) decided to make Buster first sound movie a story where he doesn't get the girl he loves and also ends up alone? I've watched Free and easy/ Estrellados and honestly, I felt really sad with that ending. Perhaps I'm just used to films where everything works out in the end, idk. Just curious about other people vision on this one.

Free and Easy is such a hard movie for Buster fans to watch. I've heard it's not as rough for those who are casual watchers or aren't as invested. Most fans also do not like the ending, finding it very bizarre that he would not get the girl. What kind of ending is that? What was the point? She gets with the jerk?

To be honest, she doesn't deserve Elmer. But there are a few that do enjoy the fact that he does not get the girl, *something different* (sorry I disagree).

The ending is sad. You just feel bad for the guy who has done everything for this girl, and she's blind to it all and gets with the jerk. (Is this a, nice guys always finish last, type situation? Women always like the bad guys etc. etc.)

As with Everything, I think context needs to be explained. What was happening before and during filming, to get a better idea. (Which means this is very long and I'm so very sorry)

While Thalberg supervised Buster's films, it was during the filming of Spite Marriage that he passed the responsibility to his new brother-in-law who was a former publicist, Lawerance Weingarten (formerly producing Tim McCoy westerns). Thalberg was still the producer, but Weingarten was uncredited handling day-to-day responsibilities (Curtis, A Filmmakers Life, pg 366) Weingarten had little experienced with script development, and nearly none in talkies. Thalberg was distracted. What eventually happened was lots of ideas that were hopeless, but many of them were considered and then abandoned because Weingarten had little sense of what he was doing. "And it wasn't only the twenty-two writers who were eager to help me out. The executives and studio big shots also turned into gagmen overnight, adding greatly to the confusion. With so much talk going on, so many conferences, so many brains at work, I began to lose faith for the first time in my own ideas" - Buster Keaton Curtis, A Filmmakers Life, pg 386)

Then came the constant script changes. May, Thalberg and Weingarten briefly settled on a musical-comedy -His Royal Highness. A month later Ed Sedgwick dictated an original of his own- The Three Act. Richard Schayer was brought on to write the scenario, which took two rounds of revisions by the time Thalberg Okayed it. But it still wasn't right. Schayer had to come up with an entirely new story line, incomplete draft in Sep. Then another story line was developed in early Oct, then they changed it yet again. Which was finalized in Nov 22. Buster was regarded as an actor, writer, director, or creative team (sometimes not allowed to do stunts as well). (Curtis, Pg 387) Weingarten lacked an understanding of Buster's screen character or the qualities that made his comedies unique. Saying "If Buster Keaton had been still a big commercial thing for Joe Schenck, he wouldn't have turned him over to MGM" then saying "We found stories and if they suited...they might not suit one, they'd suit the other, or we make them suit"(pg 388) - Buster was, to me, the one they chose to 'make suit'. When talkies started, the way they casted was different, they really only cared about how someone sounded on film. Which is the primary reason Anita Page was chosen for Free and Easy. While they were filming Free and Easy, the script was incomplete, and they were fixing the dialogue as they went. They were often sitting around waiting for dialogue to be written.

As far as I can tell, there really is no explanation as to why they chose what they chose (there might be some information out there, I just haven't seen it. Anyone can chime in with that.) I know Buster never spoke about the movie once filming was done. Buster was MGMs only comedian. They had no clue what they were doing, and they wouldn't listen to Buster. Weingarten for whatever reason, seemed to think he, who had no experience, thought Buster incapable. With his comment about Joe Schenck passing him to MGM because he wasn't a money maker, it appeared that he thought he could do better. They loved to tell him that his talkies made more money than his silents, therefor meant that they knew what they were doing, and he didn't (and it totally wasn't because talkies were new, and people wanted to hear what everyone sounded like). Like Buster said, it made him question himself and his ability. I've seen comments about how ironic it is that he's a puppet on strings (which is one of the hardest parts to watch), and how his character loses everything that he cared for (what was happening IRL). That it was MGMs way of saying- you're ours now. Maybe it was because of the absolute chaos that was the script and lack of experience. The too many cooks in the kitchen. I'm not really sure what the answer is. I know many people have their own opinions on it. (I have read many comments on forums that irritated me, and I had to stop reading :) )

I would say most people feel the same as you. We like that he gets the girl in the end, how could you not? You always root for his character to get the girl, and everything works out in the end. It's a way to escape and imagine everything will be fine in the end. Plus, it's Buster, you want the best for him.

I don't know if this has answered anything, if it gave you more insight, maybe confused you a bit (I tend to go on rants), but I hope it helped? I'm by no means an expert, and as always can be wrong. Anyone can always correct me, add information or add in their opinion.

Designs under the cut!

GRACE:

The light scars/ cracks on her body were injuries formed while she was accidentally sent through Turo's time machine. Unlike the paradox pokemon/ miraidon, GrAce's body isn't made of iron or metal, so her body wasn't able to withstand the large amount of tera energy used to power the machine as easily as the paradox pokemon were.

Luckily, she was just barely able to hold out against the time machine's energy until she made it to Turo's lab in the present day. Unfortunately, she can't be sent back because she would literally die if she went through the time machine again. Sooooo she's stuck in the modern era.

Very familiar with Area Zero and the various pokemon that reside down there, but moved out in order to continue producing music as well as familiarize herself with current-day Paldea.

She only vaguely know Clavell back when he was a rebellious teenager, though she didn't know his name. Clavell, on the other hand, was one of her biggest fans back in the 50s-60s.

Funny enough, when she sees "Clive" for the first time, she recognizes him! But not as Director Clavell, she just barely recognizes him as the random teenage fan that would occasionally ask her to sign various GrAce posters he had bought. She is also under the belief that he too, was sent from the past into the present, unaware that he simply just grew up.

Likes doing random poses for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

BRAIDY:

Believes that everything can be solved without violence, but can and will throw hands if need be.

Everyone in Braidy's family greet each other by playfully ramming into one another. So when Peppy and his team were getting chased down by Braidy's family during their journey, they weren't trying to attack them, they just wanted to say hi!

Braidy is really good with kids due to his experience with being the eldest sibling, as he'd often have to take care of his younger siblings.

Speaking of Mykyie, the lighter parts of Braidy's fur appeared only after Mykyie passed...

As of now, he's still an apprentice, but he has great potential to become an all powerful wizard... someday.

CHRISTENE'S:

Their stomachs are basically voids, so every time they eat the food just disappears, which is why they're ALWAYS hungry.

If you listen closely, you can hear soft bell noises every time they walk. It is unknown why this happens, but I believe it is best not to ask.

bliss redesign based off one I made in my teens

thought process + various other bits and bobs under the cut

I was 15 and annoyed by everything that moved when this character first came out, so in my own head I was very much making a Point with this redesign. Hence, I made very minimal changes. I wanted to work with what was already there and basically just make the existing design more thought-through. Little breakdown ahead (keeping in mind i myself am very much An Amateur who doesn’t know shit and am just ranting about my opinions and i also haven’t seen a single second of the 2016 reboot so i don’t know much about Bliss to begin with)

1. one of my Biggest pet peeves with Bliss is that the powerpuff girls each have bangs that are simple, memorable, and iconic while also being unique from each other and being reminiscent of irl little girls hairstyles. It’s very neat and clever and I like it a lot

and then Bliss has this confusing jumble of shapes that looks like it changes in style halfway across her forehead

i have absolutely no idea what the intent is here. My only guess is maybe it’s meant to look weird on purpose like she was trying to cut it herself or something (I suspect it’s something like that since she seems to have normal looking bangs as a little kid from what I can see) but it doesn’t really come off that way if that’s the case. It just looks like baby’s first PPG OC where you Understand that it’s meant to be hair and that it is made out of shapes but have 0 understanding of hairstyle or character design in general. Heck I might have put this exact hairline on a character in the past at the age of like 8

So in my redesign she’s got 5 even notches across her bangs, not thee most exciting change but it does the job I think. It is pretty reminiscent of Blossom but they look different enough from each other that I wasn’t too worried about it

2. low-hanging fruit time, Bliss’s hair color is horrible on the eyes. I’m bewildered at the decision to do this, especially since there is just so much of it, I struggle to think of how she could exist in any scene without hogging all the viewer’s attention constantly. That said, I understand they wanted her to have an unnatural hair color to really signal that she is a Fresh new Teen character from the late 2010’s, which is. Whatever, that’s fine, so she gets purple hair now. I kept the streak for the same reason, especially since she’s got a lot of hair, so no harm in a little extra interest in there.

I also learned recently that her hair glows sometimes? which i did Not know when first drawing her but well i think the darker color helps anyway. It adds some contrast for when she’s normal vs when she’s glowing and makes the latter appear more,, idk threatening or powerful or whatever the mood generally is when she’s doing that.

I did re-add that toothpaste blue to her eyelids though. I like to think it’s also the color of her lasers. It’s a cute color, just not as like 70% of this character’s palette

3. real talk I was drawing this from memory and didn’t mean to change the way her hair flares out from her head. realistically I think the original is fine, maybe just a little boring but fine, so that part of the redesign was an accident. Only thing is, it’s in the exact same position in every screenshot I’ve seen? It doesn’t seem to whip around when she’s flying or anything which looks weird and probably looks weirder in motion, especially since it takes up so much space onscreen. Idk it’s a strange decision, esp since the original show liked to use the ppg’s hair to emphasize their movement, so I’d just bring more movement into her hair. I mean if nothing else it’d make her look cooler.

I also ended up making it shorter in my redesign—again, not really intentional, but I think it’s better that it eats up a little less of her silhouette

4. Her headband is largely the same, I didn’t hate the idea of her having an accessory, so I just toned down the colors. I’m not personally a fan of the powder blue and that pink heart is very bright and just doesn’t go with the rest of her (once again the color of her hair is doing it no favors). I also moved the heart over. Not necessarily needed I think, but I feel like it reads quicker as a headband and not a weird crown that way+introduces some asymmetry into her design that I think is nice.

5. my biggest gripe other than her bangs are her hips. I’m not against adding anatomy to this character design to make her read visually as older than the girls, but it’s so awkwardly done and distracting. I feel like it even interferes with her line of action more often than not (which is not helped by her unmoving hair).

Part of the issue is she still has the teeny tiny torso, just… with those square-ish hips slapped on, which makes her legs look all gangly and stretched out. I tried to balance out the proportions more in my redesign, as well as change the hips to a flared skirt. I think it helps differentiate her from the girls and still implies hips underneath, it just also functions as a less clunky transition from her torso to her legs.

Lengthening her torso also allows the stripe to look more like a belt above the skirt, which I think helps to sell her as “similar, but not the same” from the ppg

6. Her leggings(? Idk Im not a fashion person) aren’t a bad idea I think. like a more mature version of the girls’ stockings, but I think the white makes them look really distracting. It would help to make them a darker color I think, but since I wanted to keep them reminiscent of the girls’ socks I kept them white and just shortened them.

7. Not really sure what Bliss is wearing on her feet. I think they’re Mary Janes, but they’re drawn a bit different from the girls’ and I honestly think it’s too babyish a shoe for her to wear. I’m not sure what she’s actually wearing in my redesign either honestly, but the goal was just to make them look like the girls’ Mary Janes while clearly being something different.

8. Uh her signature color is something I’ve contemplated changing a lot but to be real I think it’s fine. I feel it was a very bad idea from a marketing standpoint because people were hype about Bunny and would obviously be mad they didn’t get her once the character actually dropped (and in the long-run she would just end up being overshadowed by the character everyone has already assigned that color to) but I’m personally not bugged by her being purple beyond that. If I were to draw them together though I think Bunny would have a more pinky shade of purple and Bliss leans more blue.

Loosely on the same topic, because of Bliss I’ve had a running headcanon that “only child” types of powerpuffs tend to come out purple. Kind of like how trios tend to have a red, blue, and green. It’s a fun little piece of fake lore to rotate around in my brain

Anyway with all that out of the way, here’s some redesigns I decided to have some fun with. Wasn’t being too precious about recognizability or simplicity or anything like that, but I did run out of steam partway through. There’s also one based off Whoopass Bell bc idk, why not

Argyle never gets frustrated with Steve when he doesn’t understand something. He doesn’t roll his eyes, or give That Sigh. He explains things patiently, if a bit abstractly, and when Steve is way off base Argyle runs with it. Is Vecna a vampire? Whoa that would be wild, man! Do you think he can’t have garlic? We could just take him out with a gnarly garlic pie, my dude!

the way you're seeing into my mind.... argyle being really soft with steve and taking the time to make sure he doesn't feel stupid when he's confused is something i've considered AT LENGTH (specifically in dms with @himbohohoharringtxn who has the unfortunate luck of being on the receiving end of Most of my argyle thoughts fdjghkdfj)

i would like to preface this by saying that i am firmly in "argyle and steve are both genuinely smart" territory. i think steve is very neurodivergent coded (i see the arguments for adhd/autism/dyslexia/ocd and as someone who might be autistic but is diagnosed with the other three....i see these arguments and i agree on all fronts) and there's also the head trauma of it all, though that's not what this is about. he's not fucking dumb, he just needs things broken down and explained to him in a very specific way. nothing wrong with that!

as far as argyle is concerned - we've literally seen him in action noticing small details no one else has(one of my fav parallels between them), which ends up being the reason the cali group finds nina and el. he's not fucking dumb either, just delivered to us as a comic relief stoner character with little dimension because the duffers need to be fucking stopped

BUT ANYWAY! you're so right! argyle would see the way steve sometimes gets brushed off and spoken over. the rest don't mean it to be hurtful and steve tries not to show that it does sometimes sting (because it's really not that big of a deal to him and it's not like they're being outright mean) but he would ABSOLUTELY "yes and-" whatever steve's off the wall question or idea was, if anything just to make him laugh, relieve some of the tension. AND IT WORKS is the thing.

it's not just, "duuuude, what if we just lure vecna into the sun? he'll be TOAST in five seconds flat, no fighting necessary. nancy, you can put the gun down, we're gonna hurl garlic cloves at him with a slingshot!" in one fell swoop, argyle is 1. making sure steve feels heard and not spoken over; 2. acknowledging steve's input and effort in a way that, let's be honest, the others don't do very often; 3. putting a smile on the group's faces for a while because fuck they're kids in a stressful situation and need a laugh; 4. putting himself in the line of fire so the others can rag on him instead.

argyle would do this when they aren't even dating yet and steve definitely would not be normal about it, he'd be smiling so big and soft and then argyle would catch his eye and smile back and they'd have this little quiet moment between them amidst all the chaos and dread.

after they're dating though? oh, they'd be INSUFFERABLE. they'd be such a pda couple, with the ridiculous pet names("what the fuck did you just call me?" "don't worry about it, my lil sweet potato pie."), and the open flirting until their friends are fake-retching, the whole nine yards. argyle is hanging off of steve's back with his arms around his waist and not even acknowledging it as he makes his argument to the rest of the group that, "no, no, listen. steve is onto something here, i just know. what if-"

and when they're alone, it'd be less of the theatrics and silliness and more of the gentle patience. they're both smart in really different ways and when argyle gets something steve doesn't and steve is getting a little frustrated about it, he'd take his hand or pull him close and just distract him with a little bit of affection to get him to cool down because he knows being frustrated isn't going to help steve figure out whatever it is. conversely, steve does the same when he's trying to explain something to argyle - though he's less likely to get as frustrated when confused, and more likely to pretend to take longer to get it than he actually does because listening to steve explain a subject he's knowledgeable about is fucking hot, can you blame him? they're just soft with each other, okay

favorite episode? favorite Doug Eiffel(TM) moment?

oh, tough questions! hm. i always listen to wolf 359 in order, so at this point i don't tend to think about individual episodes so much as like... i know what happens in each episode, but it's all part of the show, and i love the entire show most of all. if that makes sense. that said, memoria is very close to my heart, and had a real, material impact on my life, so that has to be one of them. it's also very impressive in what it accomplishes from a technical standpoint; mayday and the watchtower would be near the top of my list for that reason, too. but also because they're episodes that are almost entirely eiffel's voice. quiet, please is genius; intentionally limiting the audio portion of your audio drama only displays all the best things about wolf 359's clarity of sound design, and its ability to communicate visuals and a tangible sense of place. it's like gabriel urbina's response to the btvs episode hush, which i know he's said he's fond of. and bach to the future is my comfort episode for when i don't want to listen to anything else; that one always makes me feel better.

my favorite Doug Eiffel Moment... even more impossible to say. i find him enchanting. i can get fixated on the most insignificant eiffel lines and moments. my favorite eiffel moment is whatever i'm currently listening to. ... but i think one of the most eiffel moments is probably the part at the start of desperate times where he talks minkowski down and defuses the tension by "relieving her of command" - and everyone starts laughing together. it's such a perfect distillation of who he is. he thinks on his feet, he stands up to authority, he's the guy who's always got another idea, and he's quick to make himself the butt of the joke. it's funny. it's heartwarming. it's so... eiffel.

It's my catch-all "any Volistry writing goes HERE" containment zone. Like I said, this wasn't supposed to be anything big, I just wanted to write a bunch of drabbles and practice writing smut because I've never done that before. It might also be because I'm currently more obsessed with the Skills instead of the humans, though i still love them.

but yes! Meet the Parts that Make You is a fic after Martinaise, established relationship for KimHarry, where Kim is casually introduced to the skills over dinner, and they document their findings in Kim's notebook over the course of about a week. it's a lot of skills banter and silly moments!! harry can honestly say that every single part of him loves Kim.

Let's Make It (a) Home Word Count: 1896 Rating: Teen+ I think if I want to finish any fic first, I want it to be this one, because it really sets the scene for the rest of the universe of all my other fics. The main gist is that Perception can pull in anything that Harry's looking at into the mindspace, and once they figure this out, most of the skills go "Hey we should bring in more things so we can decorate!"

Perception can pull things in, Interfacing can give it texture, Conceptualization can make it different colors and Reaction Speed can duplicate it. Empathy makes it so the object has the correct feelings attached to it (Dora's letter, for example) and Half Light can immediately destroy the object (Dora's letter, for example).

This fic will be the death of me, with all the skills, but I really really want to do skill character studies. I need to research their lines on Fayde and understand each of them so I can write all of them better.

This is also so I can be obsessed with each of them. Currently I have a lot of faves, but I don't care about all of them yet when i WANT TO!! i want to know each of them intrinsically!! I wrote a bit of the Endurance chapter and I didn't use to care for him very much, but then I wrote the lines

"Endurance is not tired; he can't afford to be. Not when everyone else is. He would stand before any of them, from the first intellect to the last motoric, in order to take a blow meant for someone frailer, less capable of surviving it. He will endure it instead."

and now I'm sympathetic to him. like, ough. If I understand them, then I learn to love them, and that's also why I'm writing it from Empathy's perspective! Empathy feels what other the other skills feel and does bonding activities with them with similar feelings, does that make sense? i really want to learn characterization for each of them, this fic truly is just an excuse for me to do character studies so i know all their character motivations.

BUT. it also has backstory plot now that im invested in lmao? based off of character design that i have. I STILL NEED TO POST MY SKILL REFS. RAUGH. but yeah all of my stories get too big for me really, i always bite off more than i can chew for projects like this lmao.

Other Fics: Skill Body Swap Fic! its shoved into Unstoppable Force's document for the time being, since this is mostly an excuse for Volition/Echem swap (Echem's body is ~sensitive~ if you're not used to it and i love putting voli through Situations. meanwhile Volition's body has the morale health pool in it that echem has to take care of), and ive only written that specific swap, but i think it'd be cool if i swapped EVERY SKILL.

Logic and Drama would be funny hkjgh Drama would 1) immediately slot into the new role and be extremely good at pretending nothing is wrong. What do you mean, he hasn't switched bodies with anyone? That's highly improbable. 2) love saying lies as if they were appropriate conclusions, and actual Logic would be like "That's literally wrong. Stop that."

Empathy and Composure would be interesting! Empathy's body is constantly picking up on everyone's emotions, and also is always on the brink of tears. Composure's body is not made to experience the same emotions, much less the emotions of others. Empathy's cut off from feeling and Composure is struggling not to fucking cry, poor guy.

Shivers and anyone? I just think Shivers should be small and worried about her connection to Revachol. and some other skill is just like "WHY IS THIS SO OVERWHELMING. HELLO??"

There are moments that Wolfwood would swear Vash is born of the suns.

A muffled thud pulls Wolfwood from his coffee induced trance. Stumbling into the kitchen, Vash appears to have walked straight into a wall. Eyes half closed, rubbing the sleep from his eyes, the only response to this abrupt chance of pace is a yawn. 

“Mornin’,” Wolfwood laughs, the greeting nearly knocking Vash off his feet. As the messy hair tilts in his direction, he notes the sweater hanging around Vash’s shoulders. “Ain’t that mine?” 

It’s a rhetorical question, and they both know it. Wolfwood acquired said hoodie a few months back after some particularly intoxicated gentleman tried to purchase his jacket with it. The refusal was met with some slurred ‘k’p it an’way’ from the form stumbling out of the bar. 

The sweater was much too loose on Wolfwood, the gifter having stood at least two heads taller. Still, Wolfwood was never one to toss out something of possible use, so the hoodie found itself stashed in some corner of a motel closet. It wasn’t until a chance encounter left Wolfwood staying in the same room a few years later that the sweater made its reappearance. 

“Hey Nico, someone left a jacket in here!” 

“Hm? Oh. Forgot about that.” 

“Wait, this was yours? I didn’t know you’d been here before!” 

“I’ve been ‘lot of places, blondie.” 

The second he’d put it on, Vash’s entire face had lit up. The sleeves hung far past his hands, flapping at each movement. He spent the next couple hours just waving them around, convulsing with a laughter that left even Wolfwood smirking. It quickly became his nightshirt, though he’d normally be changed out of it by now. 

“Makin’ a fashion statement today, are we?” Pulling his mind back to the present, Wolfwood catches up with his mouth, gesturing to the outfit. 

Vash seemingly attempts a response. Instead, he only succeeds in a strangled noise that leaves them both wincing. With a light cough into his sleeve, he clears his throat and tries again. “Morning! Sorry about that.” 

Raising an eyebrow, the silence echoes through the room. Wolfwood’s learned by now that commenting on the apology only leads to a never ending loop of ‘quit ‘pologizing’ followed by Vash’s instinctual apologies for apologizing. 

“Want some?” Wolfwood offers instead,gesturing to the coffee leaving trails of steam drifting through the chilled morning air. The response is a chuckle, Vash shaking his head in time with his sleeves. 

There’s a slight shake in his legs, accompanied by his fingers fidgeting through the holes in his sleeves. Once he picks up on this, Wolfwood’s eyes soften. Yeah, definitely not a coffee day. Vash can handle it occasionally, but if he’s feeling heightened anxiety already, caffeine tends to leave him jumpy.

 It’s been a good week. Relatively calm, no angry mobs chasing him out of town. Hardly surprising he woke up anxious. Seems the universe can never cut the poor guy a break. If he has even a moment of peace, something has to come along to ruin it. 

Wolfwood reaches up, lazily grabbing Vash’s hand and begins to rub soft circles against his palm. Vash gives him a soft smile in return, sinking into the chair closest to his and pouring out a serving of juice. 

He’s barely taken a sip before a far off look consumes his eyes. Wolfwood squeezes his hand. Not a word spoken, but a question asked. Vash answers in the form of a hum, laying his arms on the table and resting his forehead against them. 

“Gon’ suffocate like that, needle noggin,” Wolfwood says, noticing Vash’s shoulders shake lightly. Laughter? Didn’t think it was that funny. After a moment Vash emerges, mist lining his eyes. Okay it can’t have been that funny. Maybe… crying? 

“Y’alright?” Despite the rough grammar, his tone is soft. Gentle in a way the blue-eyed dipshit just seems to pull out of him. Despite countless attempts to maintain just a touch of his previously rough exterior. 

Vash shakes his head, which Wolfwood takes to mean no. Before he can ask any further questions, he realizes he misinterpreted the action. Vash’s eyes remain hazy, his metal arm raising to meet his face as he flinches against the back of it. 

“tnsshiew-!” 

“Blessin’,” Wolfwood pauses, analyzing the man sitting in front of him. There’s a pinch to Vash’s brows, his teeth beginning to show as gasps fall from his lips. The light reflecting from drops hanging off his lashes matches the metallic sheen coating his hand. “More?” 

“Y- yeah…” Vash manages to choke out. One breath, two, and he ducks again, this time his voice crackling through the pitchy sounds. “in’kasshhiew-! hh’akkshihiew-!” 

“Another blessin’.” 

“Thanks,” Vash smiles, raising his other hand to swipe away some stray drops migrating down his cheeks. After a breath he pipes up again with a “Sorry-” before seeming to catch himself, and trailing off into a light cough. His knee brushes against Wolfwood’s as it resumes its trembling, dipping in rapid succession as the table shakes. 

Wolfwood reaches down, placing his hand against Vash’s leg. Meeting his gaze, the tone used is lower. “You okay? If somethin’s the matter, you know you can tell me.” 

Blushing under the scrutiny, Vash lets a sniff escape before verbalizing his response. “Yeah, sorry, I’m alright.”

“If you’re sure.”

“Yeah, definitely,” Vash nods enthusiastically, though Wolfwood clocks the way he flinches at the movement. “I’m gonna sit on the couch, put a little music on, you wanna join?” 

Pressing a kiss against Vash’s temple, Wolfwood stands, heading towards the sink to rinse his mug. Not waiting for a more solid answer, Vash heads off towards the radio with a touch more speed then he should have this early. 

A sweet melody begins to swirl through the air, followed by a muffled sound Wolfwood can’t quite make out. Electing to ignore it, he hums along with the rising beats, settling into the couch next to Vash. A few words slipping out as the song begins to slow again, he raises his arm so Vash can settle against his chest. 

The singing soon fades away, a light instrumental taking its place. Wolfwood feels his eyes begin to shut, starting to drift off. The light in the room dulls as a few clouds cover the suns, everything bathed in a peaceful haze. 

A sudden jerk snaps the room back into focus. 

“What w’s that?” 

“Sorry,” Vash shrugs, snuggling deeper into Wolfwood’s chest. “Arm fell asleep.”

“Oh, s’all?” Clearing the sleep from his voice, Wolfwood lets his chin rest against Vash’s hair, breathing in the floral notes. As the rise and fall of his chest leaves them both slightly rocking, Wolfwood lets his eyes shut again. Still, a nagging suspicion keeps his consciousness focused on the form in his arms. 

Sure enough the shudder comes again, this time with an audible “engnkt-!” 

Gazing down, Wolfwood leans back to get a clearer view of Vash’s face. “Did you just sneeze?” 

Vash’s eyes are cloudy, his fingers still pinched round his nose. “S- sorry… I’b dot… dot fidished…. hH’ingkt-!” 

Letting his lips meet Vash’s forehead, Wolfwood whistles. The warmth is low enough that it was easily missed earlier. Combined with the shivers bounding through the frail form huddling in his arms, the fever is obvious. 

“Let ‘em out, blondie. Can’t have you blowin’ a fuse on me.” 

There’s no reply, but considering the panting, it’s not for lack of desire. Wolfwood feels his heart skip a beat as Vash’s canines peek out from between his lips. It’s not unusual for his teeth to show in a smile, but Vash isn’t the type to snarl, so watching them get bared is a rare pleasure. Dropping his fingers, Vash aims for cupped hands, spinning himself towards the couch.

“hh’kNZSHhuh-! hk’PTZSHh-! ARKSHh’oo-!” 

“Bless,” Wolfwood chuckles, the harshness never failing to get a jump outta him. They’ve never seemed fond of being held back, reaching a vocal quality the timid man producing them seems utterly incapable of. 

“Thagks.” 

“Are you sick, or is somethin’ settin’ you off?” Brushing loose strands from Vash’s forehead, the heat seems to have rapidly increased. “You feel a bit warm.” 

“It’s not-” Whatever denial Vash was attempting to produce fades away as his voice breaks, leaving him descending into a rough cough. He begins to lean away, attempting to aim himself towards the floor instead. A squeak breaks free as he slides towards the edge of the couch, only being saved as Wolfwood grabs his arm. 

“Vash.” 

The coughs halt immediately at the name, Vash’s head swinging around to face Wolfwood. The look that he gives could melt anyone, okay? It’s not a him problem, no one could resist those puppy-dog eyes. No one. 

“You sick?” 

With a faint nod, Vash sniffles again. His eyes begin to swim, lip quivering with what seems to be only half irritation. He knuckles his nose, a light huff slipping out. It’s obvious it wasn’t aimed at anyone but himself. 

“That’s not a crime, blondie,” Wolfwood pauses to cup Vash’s cheek, thumbing away a stray tear. “ I’m not gon’ be mad at you for gettin’ ill.” 

“B- but… if I get you sick, I’ll be mad at myself.”

Wolfwood chuckles, a smirk breaking loose as the corner of Vash’s mouth twitch up. He’s never been able to hear someone else’s laughter without joining in. “I won’t let you. Jus’ means you’ll get a chance to take care of me back.”

 “Back?” Vash pipes up, tilting his head in one of his many acts of pure innocence. Ironic, given all he’s capable of. Ever the walking contradiction. 

“Yup. Starting right now, you’re under my care.” Wolfwood grins, starting to sit up. Vash feigns a shudder, earning himself a light slap upside the head. Still, Wolfwood doesn’t miss the way his leg is bouncing again. 

“Vash.” 

Those eyes turn to look at him again.

“I love you.” 

Vash pales, the rose stain against his cheeks blooming up to his ears. It doesn’t matter how many times it’s said, blondie always reacts as if it’s a revelation. “I love you too, Nicholas.” 

Wolfwood slides onto the floor, standing up and pulling Vash close in one graceful movement. Suddenly playful, he lets his lips brush against Vash’s ear. “That’s my shirt, ya know.” 

Vash hums, leg going still. “Need to take it off me?” 

Wolfwood grins, lips greedily meeting Vash’s. He sighs against the feeling, the world dissolving away as the two draw closer until even they can’t tell where one ends and another begins. 

Finally Vash pulls away to direct a “knshhiew-!” into his collar. 

Catching his breath, Wolfwood addresses the earlier question. “For now, you can keep it. At least until you’re better. In case you need some motivation.” 

The laughter that follows pulls the air straight from Wolfwood’s lungs.

I've been seeing lots of takes lately with people feeling hatred towards part 2 Speedwagon for being a greedy capitalist who probably exploited people and done some shady stuff to become wealthy because there was '''no way he could have become rich just from oil money'''... thoughts?

it's so disappointing to see some bad takes about the Speedwagon Foundation being some "acshually nasty organization" and about Speedwagon supposedly becoming some heartless rich man popping up again. And like, I shouldn't even be surprised at this point considering how the average "Jojo fan" mistreats Part 1 and 2 and alllll the misinformation they love to spread about them and about some characters in particular, often bastardizing them into wildly out of character versions and pretending those fanons are canon for whatever reason (being Speedwagon one of the characters that gets bastardized like that the most), sometimes just to make Blorbo Of Their Choice look better by throwing every other character under the bus, sometimes just because people can't be bothered to pay attention to the og if there are no punching ghosts on sight (and even then, Jojo parts featuring stands get misinterpreted a lot too).

This is gonna be long, so let me start by saying that if y'all really believe that Speedwagon somehow became some nasty ass rich man, then you're completely misinformed and you (and I say "you" in general and not specifically you anon) might benefit from rereading/rewatching the source material and actually paying attention to the plot and details this time.

Like, I've seen people assuming that the Foundation only researched the stone mask and eventually stand stuff, and completely forgetting that one of the literal main goals and also one of the biggest things the Foundation does is seeking for the betterment of the planet as a whole (preserving nature, wildlife, etc) as well as for the betterment of medicine and health care, actually seeking for the best for all humankind, this in addition to all the secret branches it has for the research of supernatural phenomena like stands, stone masks, pillar men, and so on in order to prevent as many incidents with them as possible and prevent the loss of as innocent lives as possible.

Sure, the people working for those latter branches might get into deep trouble sometimes whenever some jerk with a stone mask or a stand starts some shit, but, another thing jojo fans tend to conveniently forget is that those employees are working for the secret/non-public branches of the Foundation. We as audience know about them because we are let into seeing them working as part of the narrative, however, the public in general within the story DO NOT KNOW about the existence of those branches or what they do. Pillar men, stone masks, stands and the research around them are kept in secret in order to prevent any sorts of chaos and ensuing panic, among other safety reasons.

The people working for those branches are specialized or at least have some prior knowledge on those fields they work in (you'd think it is a MUST considering they are being let in on sensitive information that could be super detrimental for the planet and for humankind if it fell in the wrong hands), meaning that those employees already know and are fully aware of the kind of stuff they're going to deal with there from the start. They weren't deceived into it, and the fact that the employees remain loyal to Speedwagon from start to end and respect and follow his will, even long after his death, denotes that there was some deep and mutual respect and appreciation there, something you can't earn through exploitation, and definitely something these people wouldn't have done had Speedwagon been the heartless tyrant rich old man some people with a lack of media literacy want to believe and make others believe he was.

If people paid just a wee bit more attention to earlier Jojo parts, they would have realized it was all spelled out from the beginning too! Speedwagon expressly states from the very start his disgust and hatred towards the rich, being the Joestars the only exception to that due to them being genuinely kind persons, unlike most other wealthy people out there. He was also implied to have been dirt poor for most of his life and was also stated to have lived in the slums at least up to PB's main timeline. There were never any indications or signs that showed that he ever betrayed those roots of his by siding with the rich against the poor over the years. Instead, he's been using his funds to make the whole world a better place for everyone, not only by improving health care and access for all people as well as the environment (which would actually show a sense of duty from him as he is counteracting whatever negative impact his oil company may have had on the planet), but also providing all the aid he can against supernatural threats.

And not just that, but he's also kept some of his connections with the crime world over the years. However, rather than using those connections for selfish goals, he makes use of them to workaround the system in cases like Lisa Lisa's, where he used all those influences he had to help her go successfully into hiding after killing the zombie that murdered George (an undercover zombie that was actually a higher up within the army and who everyone believed to be a regular human, hence their chasing after her to make her pay for that "crime" she had supposedly committed). Additionally, if you know anything about big companies and organizations, you'll know that the law is also not always there to protect regular people, and sometimes, it will cater to the more profitable goals, as well as some businessmen actively being shady af and "hindering" their rivals for their own benefit. The Speedwagon Foundation being an organization that vouches and actively works for the wellbeing of people would have probably ruffled countless feathers among those who seek for a personal gain, to say the least (think of the hijackers that tried to kidnap him, as shown in the flashback in BT, i.e). This is also where those connections he keeps with criminals come into play, as there are never any mentions about Speedwagon doing shady stuff through them nor using them to pursue some personal goal, which hints at the fact that he keeps and uses those nexus as means of protection against actual enemies. Defense rather than offense, if you will.

Also, lets not forget that Speedwagon found his reason to change his ways when he met Jonathan, and that a lot of the things the Foundation does are things Jonathan himself would have gone into had he not passed away (the archaeological research, the deep studying of the stone mask -which eventually led to the discovery of the pillar men just in time before their awakening-, all in order to prevent more incidents like the whole thing with Dio from happening, and so on). It's downright silly to think Speedwagon would even think of betraying Jonathan and his memory by using not only the second chance he received from Jojo himself, but also using the literal monument Speedwagon built to honor the deep bond and mutual affection the two had back when Jonathan was alive for some selfish goal.

And also, lets not forget how disgusted he was with Dio and every single vile thing he did to everyone. Do you really think he would want to follow a path similar to his, in which people are just another step for him to walk all over?? If so, then you sure are completely wrong about who Speedwagon really is like.

Those "he became some nasty capitalist lol", pretending that Spw became some heartless and selfish wealthy man along the way for no reason, all despite the heaps of constant evidence the canon has presented, even long after Speedwagon's passing away in the story, that shows that that was never the case only go to show that people are lazy and that paying attention to the story and the details in it is just something some Jojo fans will actively refuse to do and then will make the worst bullshit takes up about it.

Also?? People do realize that it's possible to become rich and not be some piece of shit?? Like, sure, I do agree that most wealthy people irl ARE shit and scummy af, but there will always be a few exceptions, you just don't always see them because the real kind ones don't go around telling everyone about every single kind act they do, they just put their money to good use to make their own employees lives better, or invest/donate money every chance they get to some organization of their trust and so on. Adding to this, do you all even realize people can't just throw money out of the window and that as a business person you always need to keep some capital to actually make your business thrive and so you can continue helping other people out in this case where BIG SUMS of money are being put to use in favor of actual civilians and people from all walks of life??

((Edit to add yet another Very Obvious display that Speedwagon never sided with the rich, not even in his older years: Smokey Brown! The kid is literally a mirror of Speedwagon’s own younger self in that both were criminals from the streets in a large city (London in Spw’s case, NY in Smokey’s), immersed in crime and poverty and most likely having to resort to crime as a mean to survive in a society that was even more classist (and also racist, and this can actually be seen in BT when one of the mafiosos starts spewing shit towards Smokey due to his skin color) than it is nowadays, both having no known parents or family either and having been most likely orphaned/abandoned. Had Speedwagon been this nasty ass rich man, he could have simply ignored Smokey or treated him poorly, or could have even turned him to authorities, considering Smokey’s criminal record just for the sake of “preventing him from stealing from him” or whatever. There was literally nothing Spw could benefit himself from by keeping Smokey around like he did, which is a core trait in abusive/exploitative people. However, he never did any of that. Instead, and despite the reigning classism and racism at the time, Speedwagon along with Erina always embraced Smokey from the start and basically became his godparents, never letting the kid go back to his life in the streets, providing him with everything he needed and making sure he received a proper education, which was something very few people of color (black people, specially) could receive. And yet, Speedwagon and Erina made it happen, very likely using some of Spw’s influences to allow Smokey go to the school (and eventually college too) of his choice without any stigma or trouble at all and covering all expenses for him. -end of edit-))

If this was, idk, the Metal Gear series or some other media that revolves around the topic of politics, then the whole "cRaPiTaLisM!!! >:O" thing would have some weight and be plausible as it directly impacts the main plot of the story. But here?? In Jojo's?? Where the main focus as stated by it's author himself is the strength of the human spirit overcoming obstacles in the face of actual evil??? Try harder.

And, before I get That One Type of fans yelling at me that "people don't just get rich without exploiting people in real life!!"… do you guys realize we're talking about animanga series where vampires, funky stone masks with spooky powers, pillar men, stands, people who can use some ancient sunpowered martial art, plankton that can turn into a sentient person, and so on can happen, right? And yet I don't see anyone whining that "tHaT DoEsN'T hApPeN iRl!!".

And like, if this whole claim stems from disliking Speedwagon, just say you don't like him and move the fuck on. You don't need to try to justify your disliking for him or for ANY other characters, let alone making up wildly out of character bullshit about them to try to prove to yourself and to everyone else why according to you the character is "bad". I promise you it is not a big deal to simply not vibe with a character.

I've been trying to learn how to draw wheelchairs for a while now, hardest part has been finding refs with people in em, do you know what terms to search up to find stuff like that? All good if not, just know you're pretty well acquainted with drawing em so figured I'd ask

First off I'm going to state that I'm not a wheelchair user. I have researched them in the past and have asked a family member who uses one for advice, but still don't take my word as absoultely reliable. The majority of my knowlege/observations comes from watching family members with chairs so it may be biased. I'm going to be mostly talking about manual chairs but the same suggestions should apply to powered.

Searching up "wheelchair drawing reference" can help, but I discourage using google images. Often the images will be unrealistic due to them being stock images, or of the wrong type of wheelchair for what youre drawing. (One that comes up a lot are foldable wheelchairs which are more associated with hospitals than practical life).

Instead, try to use reference collections made by wheelchair users. This is a really good collection by Criptid Cosplayer in both manual and powered wheelchairs. They also have a small guide to designing fantasy wheelchairs which was interesting.

I also reccomend learning what the different parts of a wheelchair are and do. This will make it easier to understand how the user uses the chair, the shape of the chair and make it easier to remember the different parts while drawing. I don't have a specific source for this using photo reference since I looked at real wheelchairs for this. However @/calvin-arium has a good guide to drawing chracters with wheelchairs with drawn diagrams here.

Also ensure you observe how real people use wheelchairs. I find that tutorials for using wheelchairs are a good source for this since they break down how each movement works. This will make it easier to draw Wheelchairs in montion/natural posing. Wheels2walking has a good video explaining rolling and one here for wheelies.

Other tips:

Give your characters wheelchair gloves, especially if they're going to be going longer distances than just being inside. Not all users use gloves but they do help protect the hands.

Consider if the character needs additional support/what type of chair they're needing. E.G. Seatbelts, cushions, cupholders, additional storage space, hight of handles/if they have handles, back height ect.

Check what type of wheelchair your character needs. One of my OC's needed to always hold a megaphone as her main weapon, so I gave her a powered wheelchair with a headrest to ensure that I could still have her move around the battlefield without taking away her disability. Other times you will need to consider the type of chair around their disability rather than design/character function. Make sure you research the type of chair for the disability and adjust if needed.

Wheelchairs have different functions. Sports wheelchairs and off-road wheelchairs look very different to regular wheelchairs so keep that in mind. Always research the right wheelchair

Also consider if your character can move their legs or not while posing.

To draw the wheelchair start with a circle with the figure to get an idea of the pose. Treat the chair as an extension of the character while drawing. Don't worry about the anatomical accuracy of the chair before you have a good idea of the pose/a basic sketch or thumbnail

Remember to draw the wheelchair using perspective. or dont.

Wheelchairs are even cooler decorated. Some people use stickers, covers, lights, fabrics, spikes.

It's okay to draw wheelchairs badly. I see a lot of people avoid drawing them for fear of getting them wrong but thats just. counterintuative. Make sure you research (even further than this post links to) and stop avoiding them.

Okay yeah, thats all I can think of for now. Keep in mind that I'm not disabled and so not everything I say is guarenteed to be accurate. But this should be enough to help you out I think.
