#agriculture major

I started off in college as an education major wanting to be a middle school science teacher, but ended up quitting that because of how ableist the major was.
I switched to an agriculture degree because I grew up on a farm, and during 2020 I was constantly at home and convinced myself I could physically do the work, and I completed that degree despite the professors being ableist and morally questionable.
While I was an Ag major, I was working for the geology museum on campus, and decided to get my Masters degree in museum studies. During my studies, I realized how disabled people are constantly left out of deai discussions in the museum field, only ever seen as potential visitors and never potential workers, and so I finished my degree with independent research into how disabled staff are treated.
During my last semester in grad school, I started working as a substitute teacher and realized that my education major professors were wrong; I as a disabled person can totally be a teacher without a problem. My grad school advisor also told me that a lot of myself professionals go back and forth between the school system and museums. So I'm taking the leap to try to become a teacher
I just took my GACE (the Georgia certification test) and passed at a professional level! Once I am hired by a school, I will start taking the remainder of classes that I need to be considered a full fledged teacher
I've literally just made a circle, but the agriculture and museum studies degrees are still a huge help to me as a science educator. Other than space, agriculture perfectly set me up to understand everything required for students to learn and places me in a good spot to introduce an FFA chapter to the school, while my museum studies degree has allowed me to see education from a different perspective than my coworkers in order to more adequately come up with ideas in joint discussions. Additionally, I included disability and deai research in almost everything I did from work to school, and as a disabled person myself, I feel that my understanding of accessibility and empathy for other disabled people has prepared me more for interacting with disabled students in my classes.
Not a single bit of my journey was for naught, and I no longer feel ashamed or regretful towards my agriculture degree. I'm also excited to continue learning and eventually helping others to learn too

Technocracy is so funny because it's just like, "You know those physics/engineering major types who don't actually understand your field but are convinced that they do and that you're getting it wrong? Yeah, well they're in charge now. Yeah, they seem to think that your farm should be run like an assembly line, you know; neat rows, rote processes, Taylorist management...Yeah, they think that your claims that it won't work are just because you're a superstitious peasant. Anyways, best get picking." And then there's a famine.

i have an issue with lore olympus's depiction of persephone's "goddess of spring" thing. first of all she shouldn't even be the goddess of spring yet, as spring shouldn't even exist yet. but whatever rachel doesn't understand / care about the myths she’s adapting what else is new.
but also i don't quite understand why, especially in the beginning, rachel chose to make everyone (including persephone) act like "goddess of spring" is like.. an unimportant job? like she's "just" the goddess of spring? does rachel not understand how fucking important the end of winter and the coming of spring would be to a society that relied heavily on agriculture for their food?
idk it seems like rachel thinks spring is just flowers and it shows :-/

I wish anyone in my real face to face life cared about this—
I got two A’s, A-, B+ for the quarter. I think that should get me on the Deans’ List again. My second quarter, I got honor roll. First quarter was Deans’ list. A good first year I hope I can keep up with. Fingers crossed I can transfer stores and reduce the stress from work.

thinking about how yesterday i came to work armed with all sorts of apple facts due to going to an orchard over the weekend (did you know apple cider is almost clear when it's first pressed and only turns brown with oxidation, like what happens when you slice an apple?) and everyone was like ok so your entire personality is about apples now? and. maybe so. maybe so....

what you eat has an impact on the environment thats just a fact. how u choose to mitigate that might be trying to use locally sourced produce, it might be growing your own, it might be reducing meat intake, it might be supporting community food initiatives, it might just be buying un-packaged produce or avoiding out-of-season fruit, or maybe ur not in a position to do anything. but stop fucking listening to people who tell you that the other regular people who choose to do a different thing from this list than you do are the enemy to distract you from who’s really creating the problem. if you spend more time railing at vegans than you do at monsanto and cargill and ADM then you’re literally falling into the same trap as someone who makes 40k and complains about the minimum wage being increased
#a lot of u guys are straight up brainwashed and think its really leftist somehow who else cringed#DISCLAIMER this is not to say white vegans dont do stupid racist things#but to argue that white vegans are not more racist as a group than like other white people#like. have the same reaction when indigenous land is taken over for animal agriculture#i think its very weird and sad to make it a competition rather than recognising corporate food production as the shared proble#and if u actually care abt farmers then get mad at john deere lol#i cant stand the either/or thing w vegetarianism/veganism#when someones like oh ur vegetarian to mitigate the impact on the environment?? ummm what about [vegetable that can be farmed unethically]??#girl do you not fucking eat vegetables??get help#also so many of them are just not true like the quinoa thing is sooo annoying because its not true#no one even knows exactly what they think is wrong with quinoa theyre just lke umm isnt it bad#actually one of the biggest concerns quinoa farmers have is that the fad won't last and then they'll be plunged into poverty#and the soy thing everyone repeats okay well again. vegans arent responsible for the majority of soy consumption but also#consumption literally accounts for like 5% of soy production#most of it is for ANIMAL FEED and biofuels.#the same applies to like vegans who get mad at people who buy locally sourced meat etc etc but tahts not what i see on this website#i mean anyone whos getting mad at regular ppl over literally trying to do something good for the environment is an idiot

it'd be so funny if cowboy!Jimmy was asked to teach a college agricultural class, he was really good at it, all his students passed with A's, but only because he promised to beat their asses if they didn't 😭 "y'all can [redacted] with the [redacted] average grades, MY CLASS GETS [redacted] A's!!!"
also his students would be asking what it's like dating a celebrity and he's like "dati--THAT'S MY WIFE, YOU LITTLE PUNKS. NOW READ YOUR [redacted] textbooks!!"
but like, he's only tough when they try to weasel their way out of doing work because he hates it when people don't give it their all.
If a student were to come up to him for advice, he'd be sarcastic with them but give genuine advice. If any kid came up to him, asking if he could help them escape a toxic living situation, this is Jimmy:
Tumblr media
honestly, no one messes with HIS kids 😤 he'd teach them all how to box for self defense, but the university dean is already nervous letting him teach the class simple ecology
SO EVERY SUNDAY HE TURNS THE BARN ON HIS RANCH INTO A BOXING GYM!!! Honestly, Uncle Eun Jin isn't crazy about it but he's too old to fight Jimmy sksksksk
It's not all the kids he teaches, but a few of them come for the boxing lessons and stay out of pure fascination that Jimmy is literally a modern cowboy who rides real horses. Jimmy doesn't let them ride the horses, but he takes them to go feed the ducks and sometimes Uncle Jin makes the students food :>
