I started off in college as an education major wanting to be a middle school science teacher, but ended up quitting that because of how ableist the major was.
I switched to an agriculture degree because I grew up on a farm, and during 2020 I was constantly at home and convinced myself I could physically do the work, and I completed that degree despite the professors being ableist and morally questionable.
While I was an Ag major, I was working for the geology museum on campus, and decided to get my Masters degree in museum studies. During my studies, I realized how disabled people are constantly left out of deai discussions in the museum field, only ever seen as potential visitors and never potential workers, and so I finished my degree with independent research into how disabled staff are treated.
During my last semester in grad school, I started working as a substitute teacher and realized that my education major professors were wrong; I as a disabled person can totally be a teacher without a problem. My grad school advisor also told me that a lot of myself professionals go back and forth between the school system and museums. So I'm taking the leap to try to become a teacher
I just took my GACE (the Georgia certification test) and passed at a professional level! Once I am hired by a school, I will start taking the remainder of classes that I need to be considered a full fledged teacher
I've literally just made a circle, but the agriculture and museum studies degrees are still a huge help to me as a science educator. Other than space, agriculture perfectly set me up to understand everything required for students to learn and places me in a good spot to introduce an FFA chapter to the school, while my museum studies degree has allowed me to see education from a different perspective than my coworkers in order to more adequately come up with ideas in joint discussions. Additionally, I included disability and deai research in almost everything I did from work to school, and as a disabled person myself, I feel that my understanding of accessibility and empathy for other disabled people has prepared me more for interacting with disabled students in my classes.
Not a single bit of my journey was for naught, and I no longer feel ashamed or regretful towards my agriculture degree. I'm also excited to continue learning and eventually helping others to learn too

I ate a homemade breakfast of chocolate-flavored coffee and 'loaded' avocado toast this morning at the bus stop.
Got to campus with over an hour before lab class. So I sat and read my library book. Ended up finishing it.
Today's chem lab was about the Conductivity of different compounds. We have to use the data to make scatter charts and them use those scattered charts to finish the lab worksheet. It's all due by next Thursday.
Took the kids to the playground and then out to the diner for supper.
Now at home, I'm deep cleaning my room since I haven't been able to since classes first started.

I am currently in the process of writing a 5-7 page paper on why writing is important in elementary school (I’m an elementary education major), and I have written more in 4 hours than I have since it was assigned in the beginning of the year.
It is due tonight. Wish me luck :D

My 8th graders spent 50 minutes a day for a month learning about the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln, the Emancipation Proclamation, the Secession of the South, all of that, literally every day, every school-week for a month of nothing but Civil War Civil War Civil War Civil War CIVIL WAR. We brought in artifacts, watched documentaries, explored primary source documents (because I love document analysis), wrote a paper as a class, learned rhymes and songs to remember facts, did presentations, and played a jeopardy review game that literally had test answers on it.
In every conversation with each student, I peppered in a fact about the Civil War.
LESS THAN A THIRD OF THEM PASSED A MULTIPLE CHOICE TEST.
HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO DO THIS???

Hi! Again my name is Luv, I come from a really really Christian family and just found out I'm a lesbian.. I still have trouble saying it. I know they could never accept me and I barely accept myself. So this account will be me just sharing stories and talking about my life! 💗

I can’t wait for college next year. At my university (since I’m committed I can say) it’s pretty easy to get special ed certified along side getting certified for elementary ed. I’m gonna do that because of my own experiences with having an IEP. I’ll know what ny kiddos go through and understand their struggles. Also I can give parents hope that their child will turn out ok.

One of my tips in my education class is to grab coffee with a teacher so you can pick their brain about the career
I've been thinking about reaching out to two of my elementary teachers, my two favorites that still teach at the school
But I had a dream the other day
It was in my highschool guidance counselors office, but it was not hers, you know how dreams go, and my elementary spanish/drama/oration teacher was sitting at the desk instead
I was at a kiddies table, some sort of mindless busy work in front of me, the room quiet and still
I turned to her so very slowly and asked only one question, the only thing said in the entire dream,
"Do you ever regret teaching?"
She paused, her eyes going wide, she turns to me
Then suddenly all I can hear are my wife's snores and it's 7 am already

Started making notes for my pedagogy colloquium. Topic: The class as a group. The amount of material is insane and I have no idea how to memorize all of it.

Day 2/100 days of Productivity
Tumblr media
Day 2/100: I just finished revising a portion of my assignment. My parents were visiting me for the weekend, so I had no time to do the priority list. But, I was able to be productive by the end of the day. And I drafted my email to my professor. It's to make the priority list more realistic for tomorrow!

3rd lecture fornthe week today.
I also got my registered classes for.next semester approved so I knwo what I'll be taking as well a the professors and meet times. I will be posting that at some point during the week of the eigth.
Today in class I got Dr. Gares the pin you see pictured above since ei didn't like it when I got it given to me. She loved it tho, as well as my cheese Chemistry jokes. We learned about the Geometry of molecules (how they are shaped and why) we also tried our hand at using the Lewis structures of a molecule to calculate the geometries.
