Y'know, it feels like almost any time I highlight a rip by Ahmaykmewsik, I'm obligated to highlight just how good they are at gripping a track's emotional core, making rips with so much pure visible feeling and heart. It was only earlier this month that I talked about It's Snowy but its snowy, and a month before that I covered one of my all-time favorite rips in Your Silent Reality. Even in simpler, earlier rips, with simpler mashups like Picture This Ranch, their talent has been evident, and though I don't want to pick favorites too much on SiIva there's just something about Ahmaykmewsik's rips that keep me coming back time and time again. And, really, today's no different: when Dancin' Tranquility got suggested for the blog, I saw it as an opportunity to just get to talk more about this incredible ripper.

I have a lot of feelings on A Hat in Time in general, that honestly sort of mirror my experiences with SiIvaGunner - it has the wholesale heart and soul of a pure indie project, and wears its influences, strengths, weaknesses, excellence and imperfections equally as proudly. Its a game that's immensely hard to dislike due just to how earnestly happy the development team seem to always be, and the Peace and Tranquility screen really embodies all of that. Referencing an older Tumblr meme whilst also feeling like a sort of acknowledgement of how caring and friendly the game's community had become, it's an aesthetic touch that had no reason or requirement to be implemented into the full game. Yet its addition was just one of the many pieces that makes the whole of A Hat in Time feel so lovely.

In that same way, a rip of the theme could have very well been executed perfectly with any sort of hip-hop mashup, akin to something like Noonsummer Madness or even Door into a Hundred Summers. Yet the remixing effort Ahmaykmewsik has gone through here feels so painstakingly, carefully done - incorporating elements and samples from Dancin - Krono Remix, a song with a similarly lo-fi, kick-back-and-relax energy to it. There's a newfound energy to Dancin' Tranquility that's hard to really describe - it feels lo-fi, yet the remixing add a subtle feeling of urgency, without actually becoming stressful.

There's so many little touches to the remix that make it truly stand out, breaks and sound samples, additional backing pieces - yet it all fits together surprisingly cohesively. And like I said before: that's kind of like A Hat in Time itself, isn't it? It really shouldn't come as a surprise that the official A Hat in Time twitter account found, loved and shared the rip with its own fans, one form of independent art creation supporting another. Ahmaykmewsik continues to impress me, and I'm so happy to see their work be appreciated through Dancin' Tranquility in particular.

The Empress takes the role of Undyne. She already had a major sense of resentment to Bow Kid before (however misplaced it may have initially been,) but as her cat goons are mercilessly whittled down to nothing in the Genocide route… something finally snaps, beyond the point of no return. She's consumed by the urge for vengeance for not just herself, but for all of her Nyakuza (the only ones she even remotely cared about aside from herself.) Armed with a prototypical battle suit, she will use her final stand to make Bow pay for ever crossing her gang. …Unfortunately for her however, the battle suit's own inherent teething troubles -- combined with the poorly-executed tech alterations not helping matters -- means that it's eventually unable to withstand anymore damage, suffering a critical error and beginning to self-destruct. The Empress winds up going out in such a blaze of glorious fury, there aren't even any ashes left where she once stood.

A bit later than I said I'd share it, but here's the AU's BAATH replacement! Similarly to the BTERTD replacement, I mentioned The Final Antasma Battle from Mario & Luigi Dream Team as a stylistic reference for this track when commissioning it (parallels to the MEGALOVANIA + I thought it was fitting for Empress, especially in Genocide.) Doubt I'll ever release it, but this time I also provided a "test" mashup of sorts with some of the ideas I was looking for. Shade took everything and ran with it in GLORIOUS fashion. I deliberately went with very non-traditional choices here, and he knocked it right out of the park -- and even improved on my initial idea in a fair few regards! Not much else left to say, so I hope y'all enjoy! (P.S. On a more general sidenote, I'm genuinely surprised that next to NO ONE has touched Pascal's unused AHIT OSTs in remixes, let alone as a motif in one, in the year that they've existed online. Like come on, y'all have some fresh material RIGHT THERE yo!!)

- heavily scarred and "inspired and enlightened" by the incident that it shows up in their own personal ego ,(some sorta thang I gotta design that goes around their neck) normally uses scythe as their base weapon but decided to go with a short range close combat weapon for limbus because they're bad at it.

- absolutely miracle this fucker hasn't distorted by now. Broke into tye library to trade info and then got booked six or something times (you gotta figure out how to unhook people no way that lady did it naturally first try when they let everyone out of the libraby)

- got in contact with an arbiter (bee guy) and gave whatever info they had because man. Theyrr not fighting him.(moreso they just fucking appeared at their doorstep and they had no choice but to answer)

-starts going up in ranks. Like a pretty good grade 2 almost grade one but trying hard as hell not to become a color (every color they know is a sicko. Sad sandwich man? Murder violence spree. Blue sicko? His emo band. Violet tear? The fucking orphanage. The red gaze? Divorced energy)

- straight up quits being a fixer for "unknown reasons" to join limbus. Also goes missing for like. 6 months before this.

im home for the first time in a few days. i think id done some healing in the days since, maybe forgetting, maybe moving on.

but i came home and i recognized: the last time i was in this bedroom was a short overnight, id gotten little actual sleep and the rest of that time was fulle of sorrowful thoughts about you.

and the time before that? apprehensive thoughts but anticipation too. and then only just shortly before that and before that too i feel like it was good only. then maybe a few weeks before that mostly unsure and anxious.

now im realized i didnt so much do healing and processing, as i did getting distracted for a couple days.

(now that theres to be no more talking with you, no more looking forward to seeing you…)

what legacy will you really leave here ?

1) my bathroom. cleaning the bathroom is right now a double-star priority task— the first and only one of its kind—on the inaugural chore-board. i walked into it and just so dispassionately gave it a half-hearted sizing up— what id have to do.

“the grody bathmat rolled up within the dusty canyon between the tub and the sink is going to have to go and can go right away,” i note and instantly it makes me think of just how adult it all was at yours— the teak bathmat and the rubber doodad folded into the shower drain—just to start!*—and how i’ll have to get these things

2) dogs. now there are no more lovely dogs in my life. now its back to just this sound: the sound of frustration and reproach and sadness and its admonishment.

id heard your own dog dispense not more than maybe a couple dozen barks.

3) first tattoo. its going to be about your dog. a simple, playful remix of a tattoo of your own. anyway, i should already start commemorating the people who enter and pass through my life in some modestly symbolic way.

this was really kind of like a first go at any kind of romance for me as a relatively actualized version of myself, unbound so much by other people and free to live and choose a self to be at all.

1: Do you prefer writing one-shots or multi-chaptered fics?

Definitely one-shots, only that they become beasts of ridiculous length. I started writing chapter fics at the beginning, and I have a few, but they are also outliers and should not be counted. for my AHIT series they are losely connected one-shots in a shared universe without having a clear and obvious timeframe, which... I like that. Of course, then there is All Aboard, which is the monstrous outlier of a near 20 chapter fic. Generally tho, I write one-shots ranging 10k+ words. 18: Do you title your fics before, during, or after the writing process? How do you come up with titles?

I tend to have a wip title, if it keeps is a different thing altogether. I have a fondness for titles with parenthesis/brackets, because no thought comes alone. Sometimes my titles are from songs, sometimes they are words that feel nice together, sometimes they are ominous and foreboding. for Waiting for the End I had five different titles, and WFTE only came in clutch because that song came on by chance in a playlist, in a rather good remix too, and it fit well to the characters. Generally though, the point when a title comes up varies. It has been start, middle and end. 19: What is the most-used tag on your ao3?

DJ Grooves takes the role of Papyrus. Even in spite of his forced exile from Dead Bird Studios, he seems to have a very happy life in the Alpine Skyline... at first. But as the story progresses, Bow Kid notices more and more strange breadcrumbs (Hat Kid's up-and-down friendship with him being only one of em,) and by the time Bow reaches the end of Alpine Skyline, Grooves fully lets the cat out of the bag. He's been biding his time for years, waiting for an opportunity to attempt seizing Mustache Girl's Time Pieces, and he's realized... killing Bow Kid would give him just such an opportunity.

HAPPY (belated) NEW YEAR Y'ALL, BET YOU WEREN'T EXPECTING THIS HUH? Anyhow, the first of several tracks in what I'll call a "commission backlog" (for simplicity's sake) has finally come to fruition: the Bonetrousle for the AU! I ALWAYS wanted to completely and utterly wreck the formula with this pair of tracks from the moment I cooked up Time's End, but I wasn't entirely sure of HOW for the longest time (even to the point of me attempting to start... and even scrapping one or two shit ideas.) It was only relatively recently that I realized "hey. LEAN INTO THE DISCO VIBE THAT GROOVES HAS, DUMBASS! also fuckin uhhhh spend some kromer and support an awesome musician to boot." And Nahg did a FANTASTIC job bringing this life; we'd be here all day if I tried to go in depth bout what I like, but just for a small thing, the fakeout at the very start with the Nyeh was a very nice touch on his part. Y'all should DEFO commission him if you get the opportunity to, he was awesome to work with and it's more than worth it! Without further ado tho, I hope you all enjoy! (P.S. It'll take some time for me to put everything together, but I figured that I'd let you guys in on what the "proper" 100 follower special for the AU SoundCloud is going to be: a release of MIDIs and applicable FLPs of tracks that have been done for the AU, both by other people and myself. Am working on other projects in between my short off time from work, but I'll keep y'all posted on this!)
