ROUND 2 MATCH 6
Tumblr media
Alistair propaganda:
“this man is my first love and i was heartbroken when he lost </3 i believe in you baby”
“Alistair and the player are the last known surviving members in the country of an organization sworn to save the world from the recently reappeared apocalypse. You travel together to gather allies and he is very sweet and adorable if you choose to romance him. Depending on your choices he can become king and make the player his queen, or you can stay side by side in the organization. If you try to sacrifice yourself to save the world at the end, a romanced Alistair will take the killing blow in your stead if he’s by your side in the moment”
“He's the sweetest pun-iest man and it is so hard not to fall for his goofy charm, especially since he is the first companion you meet. He has a tragic backstory as a bastard child of royalty who was sent away to protect the heir. I always try to go in to date someone else when I restart the game and I always give in and pick Alistair.”
Silas propaganda:
“Who doesn’t love a good childhood friends-to-lovers, lady-and-knight romance? Also Fates is infamous for the, uh, issues that a lot of its romance options present but Silas is free of any such issues! Also, he’s available on every route because he can and will betray his country for you.”

like out of all the many, many traumas ive given elspeth my favorite has gotta be the deep roads lol. and specifically the way she never really got OUT of them. yeah so maybe her body did but not HER. shes still down there with ruck and helspith every time she closes her eyes. and during future expeditions when she goes down into the deep roads for real, it doesnt feel like some horrible nightmare it feels like REALITY and its the surface and love and warmth and alistair thats nothing more than a pleasant dream. one shes always going to wake up from. bc even in her happiest moments she's never not aware of the darkspawn digging up towards her just a few miles under her feet. and never not feeling the eyes of the deep roads looking at her, gleefully waiting for her, and knowing its not going anywhere
#i love shale but for elspeth's worldstate i dont recruit her bc im so obsessed w the dynamic of it being elspeth/alistair/oghren/the dog lol#oc: elspeth#tay plays dao#she got SEVERE shell shock being down there in the dead trenches after the realization that came from helspith's poem#why shes never seen any female darkspawn and why there apparently arent as many female wardens either#and like. Understanding that death is the absolute best case scenario for her.#alistair had to 100000% step up as the leader because she was completely out of commission. barely able to breathe let alone fight or lead#going from this unstoppable warrior who NEVER loses her nerve or control on a battlefield#to nearly dying to the broodmother bc she was so fucking terrified. bc all she could see was her own fate mirrored back at her#finally FINALLY understanding what it means to be a grey warden. and then trying to reject that reality with her entire body and soul#she pulls herself out of it enough to get out alive but she never had a moment of like... triumph over the deep roads where she had a burst#of courage and saved the day or whatever. thats not usually how trauma works and so alistair carried them thru that#thru the broodmother and the anvil and branka and back to orzammar just as elspeth was beginning to put herself back together#afterwards the lack of closure to what was one of her ''weakest'' lowest moments rly weighed her down with guilt and shame#and its only a year later during awakening when she finally reconciles with having NO choice but to go back into the deep roads#and being able to kill the mother. THAT helped. that restored some small part of her#gave her the strength to start going back down there when the need arose. resigned to an early death but ready to put up a fight#but ye. still such a fundamentally devastating thing she went thru which altered her entire personality to the point where she starts fully#embracing being a warden (bc how can someone who's seen what shes seen and done what shes done be anything else???)#and INSISTING alistair take the throne despite having always been supportive of his desire not to. even if it means she loses him.#bc its a last ditch effort to save him from the fate she's completely surrendered herself to#sigh. this game man.#i need dadw to Confirm that the grey wardens have found a cure and alistair and hof are safe because jesus christ. my girl NEEDS a win

the thing abt rowena and alistair that kills me is how her making him king is (in her head) an act of love in the same way her parents sending her with duncan against her will was
#forcing fate on another bc it’s your only means of protecting them#dooming them to a life they never wanted but at least they’ll live a few years long#*longer#in her head there isn’t even a choice and that is fucked up!! of course there’s a choice!! his choice!!#bc in her head as long as he is alive he’s a threat to the crown and people will never leave him be#and she can’t trust anora because anora is too much like her and she’s already been wounded by the people in power#too much to trust anyone other than herself#so she makes him king and promises she’ll carry all of the burden and he relents only because he loves her#it’s so messed up !! tbqh !! warden alistair is the ideal to me#but it’s just not something rowena would do#there’s commentary about how a deeply traumatized TWENTY YEAR OLD should not be the one deciding the fate of a country#too much power in the hands of a girl so angered at those whose actions put her there#idk why i’m rambling i just. that decision is awful yet so complex. there’s so much going on there and so much that intersects !!#her and alistair her and anora her and eamon and loghain and howe…..#i know ppl hate when alistair isn’t a warden and especially when he’s still softened while made king it’s just !! it’s abt The Narrative 😔#and they end up okay. they do. they’re okay. he doesn’t hate her for it. they love each other Too Much. it’s just !! u know !! a flaw !!#anyways.txt#ch: rowena cousland#x: a soft epilogue

Finally finished some art of an AU I'm working on
A bit of inspiration from the Alistair Au by @cynthesia_07 on Instagram and the Guard Alastor au by @applepartysins , as well as general inspiration by all the art I've seen of Pure Angel Lucifer
I'll elaborate more on the au later when I have more art
But a general gist of it is
1) Alastor is an angel (a bit smug and arrogant, very blunt, but not really evil)
2) Lilith is the antagonist. Sort of a Yandere type of character, (not entirely but as a simple concept it's similar)
3) Lucifer doesn't give Eve the Apple, but Lilith does (the snake being metaphorical) and altho Lilith tries to have Luci banished to hell with her by lying, claiming he told her to do it, (with the goal being trapping him with her rather than punishing him) he is able to escape that fate due to lack of proof and his honest reaction to it all
4) Alastor is his "warden" you could say. He is a lower rank angel (about mid to high rank) He takes care of Luci, protects him, but also keeps him from escaping Eden, which is where Luci is under house arrest since the humans were banished from it.
That's the basics really. At least for the start
Haven't named it
I've been calling it a few different things but all too simple
Lemme know if you have any recommendations for what to call it

alistair/warden is actually killing me though like it’s so easy to get caught up in the fact that they have the fates of nations on their shoulders. they are the heroes of this story, they’ve lost everything that matters to them and they’ll have to give up even more before this is all over - that’s part of the job description. but then they actually interact with each other and you’re brought crashing back down to the realisation that they are just kids falling in love. like it literally doesn’t matter that they’re fighting armies of darkspawn on the daily, their voices are still going to tremble when they say I love you for the first time. their hearts are still going to be racing when they realise they’re about to lose their virginity together. first date on friday, battle of denerim on saturday - it’s just special writing that you can feel the weight of both of those things at the same time in this story.

okay fascinating. so according to the toolset, if you say “you’re a prince. somehow i find that very... thrilling” when alistair reveals his heritage outside redcliffe, if you’re in a romance he’ll say “oh! did i just find the one damn decent thing about my birthright? i think i did.” (VO comment: playful.) if you’re not in a romance yet but your approval is high enough, he’ll say “i... ah... not that i would want someone to like me for that reason, but there... are worse fates. ahem.” (VO comment: bashful) and it’ll set the romance active. but if your approval is not high enough, he’ll say “yes, because that’s what i want. someone to find attractive the one thing i hate the most. gosh, watch me swoon.” (VO comment: annoyed) and you get an approval decrease

I don’t really understand why people complain about the Inquisitor being somehow contrived into plot relevance when that’s sort of how all RPG video games work? At least when it comes to ‘PC saves the day’ type games. It’s kind of a given that some contrivance is necessary to get the Player front and center where the action is concerned.
The Warden was conveniently selected by Duncan to serve the order. Then they were conveniently saved by Flemeth, not out of kindness, but because Alistair happened to be relevant to Flemeth’s plans and The Warden happened to be with him when he was rescued.
Then you have Hawke, whom the plot demanded to be in Kirkwall, ergo Hawke conveniently had family there. Hawke also happened to be conveniently saved by Flemeth because—again—she had some scheme-hatchery afoot and for some damn reason happened to know that Hawke would be going to The Free Marches and she needed a gofer. Then you have the further contrivance with Corypheus and Hawke’s bloodline nonsense which I won’t even get into.
I don’t see how the Inquisitor is any more contrived than either of these two, in fact it kind of feels the least contrived given your character was literally in the wrong place at the wrong time. Everything after that falls neatly into place. You were screwing around where you shouldn’t have been, ended up with a power you don’t understand completely by accident, and now you’ve got enemies who either fear that power or want it for themselves. No Flemeth magically appearing at the start of the plot to nudge the protagonist this way or that.
And finally that brings me to Dreadwolf. There’s been a lot of chatter about DA needing to return to the Everyman protagonist, when I don’t see how they ever left? And to be frank, Dreadwolf is the one story where an Everyman protagonist makes the least sense and will therefore be the hardest to pull off. The new PC will basically be usurping the role that—if this were anything but a video game—would logically go to the Inquisitor, or Varric, or Dorian, or literally any of the characters who have a pre-established relationship with Solas. Narratively speaking, that’s what makes the most sense.
But they can’t do that. We need someone new. A nobody. And getting this nobody to be at the center of all this prophetic fate of the world business is going to take some level of contrivance. They will need to come up with a strong enough reason as to why this new character is exceptional enough to make world-changing decisions on behalf of everyone else in existence. We need a reason why Solas—our alleged antagonist—would take a special interest in this person or be otherwise tied to them because if not then what is the point of having them front and center?
Not saying it can’t be done, but they’ll need some really damn good excuses to justify the new perspective. And those excuses will probably be contrived. You don’t have the fate of the world resting on one person without massive contrivances.

ROUND 3 MATCH 10
Tumblr media
Alistair propaganda:
“I love his puns and sarcasm. He may be kinda dumb and like the epitome of boring white boy to some people, but i just love the humour he brings to the party.”
"alistair was literally forced to live in the stables growing up because the man who had stewardship of him remarried and she didn't like him; he's a bastard prince and tries to keep it secret but is almost identical to the king and you meet those two within 5 minutes of one another; he finds a rose in the middle of a battlefield and thinks how impossible it was to find something so beautiful in somewhere so terrible and it reminds him of finding you - so he saves it to give it to you; he's 20 and if you tell him to he will take the throne (even though it's always been his greatest fear - he'll do it if you're at his side); he doesnt know he's a half elf and its possible for him to live in the same castle as his mother later; he notices she looks at him strangely but he never finds out why; he's doomed to die young and so are you"
Shinjiro propaganda:
"shinjiro is leaps and bounds ahead of any of the other persona romance options. sorry NOT sorry literally jerk with a heart of gold taken to the nth degree his romance is BEAUTIFUL it's TRAGIC it's ultimately DOOMED BY THE NARRATIVE. literally a guilt-ridden man who despite his death wish reluctantly opens his heart to the MC and it's so touching and despite his struggles he still finds beauty and kindness in love and the small things. he's a great cook he's a lover of animals he is one of the only romance options that gives a shit about how the MC is doing. he TAKES a bullet for a kid but is saved literally by the PC romance/power of love in an ironic twist of fate that depends on the player liking his romance SO MUCH that you keep trying to hang out with him AFTER COMPLETING THE ROMANCE LINK.... he wakes up from a COMA at the end of the game because he feels the MC about to fade from this plane of existence (doomed romance alert) just so they can spend a few last moments together. Fucked up. his romance accomplishes more in his one month of gameplay time than any other options have in their whole runtime."

hi! 💕
I just wanted to say that I'm relatively new to your blog and omg I am absolutely feasting on all the carlisle content!! ☺️☺️ he was always one of my favorite characters (along with alistair lol) and I'm so excited to have found your blog and all your fantastic character analyses and meta and writings for him (and others 💖)!
um yeah that's all I wanted to say! I hope you have a lovely day! 🥰
I find Carlisle really interesting! So often he's just sort of written off as 'the dad' and I find that bizarre; he'd been around for centuries before the whole family thing happened. He was a reluctant vampire hunter doomed to become the very thing he hunted! Starved himself as a newborn while hiding out in the woods! He hung out with vampire royalty! He traveled around Europe and immigrated to the Americas! He overcame bloodlust enough to become a doctor all by himself! IDK, it's just way more interesting and impressive to me than anything Bella did.
And I was reading a lot of vampire books when I read Twilight. Classics like Dracula, horror like Salem's Lot, etc. Not just vampire romances. And the thing that stuck out about Carlisle was how . . . hopeful it was? There were other "good" vampires in some of the stuff I was reading, but they'd always either started off 'bad' and became 'good' later, or they fell off the wagon a lot and wallowed in guilt and self pity. Carlisle's never slipped up, and while in other contexts I might find that annoying or roll my eyes, in THIS context I think it's not only hopeful and interesting but necessary for the tone of the story. If your good-girl uncommonly kind martyr of a protagonist wants to be a vampire, you GOTTA give an example that lets her point and say "see? I might not ever kill anyone!" for it not to just be a morally horrifying decision. (And I personally still find it morally questionable but at least Carlisle's existence/example takes the edge off).
Also in most stories someone with Carlisle's origin would just be sulking in a crumbling castle or a decrepit old cemetery, bemoaning his accursed fate. Oh, woe! Doomed to endless night! Forever apart from humanity! But this guy was just like "idk maybe I'll study medicine?" like THAT's a normal thing for a vampire to decide to do. He made a life for himself on his own terms. Good for him.
That's all to say he has a role in the story that is more than just 'the dad' and while "good" characters are often perceived as boring I find him really interesting in his particular context.
