And even if you have, some of these instances are a "you blink and you miss it" thing and usually played for laughs or just glossed over. Additionally, the wiki states that Swerve was forged in Helex (the link it referenced does not exist anymore and I can't find it in the comics and I am far too tired to keep scrolling page after page, so just trust the wiki lol). When I went to look up for inforamtion on it in the IDW, there wasn't....that much, tbh, if at all. I don't know if there is more information in the comics, but the biggest section on Helex is from the Marvel Comics. And I'm not going to go in full detail in this post, you can read it in the wiki (it's very short, only, like, 3 paragraphs long), but it is listed as a Decepticon Capital. Autobots who lived there were made to walk in fear amongst them, there's definetly some angst to be done there ya'll, just saying ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hi! I've been reading through Like A Wheel, Ever Turning (such a good fic btw, you've managed to characterize Odile in such a fresh and compelling way), and I've been meaning to draw some fanart for it, and one of my friends suggested the sign of the Fox but... I haven't managed to figure out from the description in the chapter what it actually looks like. Do you have a reference for it, or was it made to be open to interpretation? Okay, so when i was first looking into this, I went on a whole rabbit hole looking into the history of paper scissors rock - most of my resources came from wiki, this page (Link).

But! While grabbing those from Wiki to add to this pose, I got a little distracted, poking about to see if there were any that gave more complete descriptions of the signs used. As such i went a little sideways onto another wiki page about (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sansukumi-ken) and realised that kitsune-ken is also called tōhachiken, which gave a BUNCH more info when i used that as my base search (stuff that's likely to prove useful to me later too lol, so thanks for kicking my search to find better visual refs XD).

See the main ref I found before was that one from the 18th century (first pic), with the other being 19th (2nd one), and neither made good visual refs - but finding the alternative name led to me finding this article which had really good info on the current playing of this game! Apparently Ghost, Psychic and Normal are going out the window, and Arcane is being added as a new type. And all the nexomon have like, % of each type? Think like 10% Water 90% Electric I think? So whatever may come of that

We don't have any new teasers or gameplay trailers but we do get monster designs revealed every so often, you should be able to find a page in the fandom wiki with the teased ones so far

Story wise we just know it'll be another time jump, the protagonist is the black and blue haired dude(apparently might always have to be male?), the developer has been teasing about something happening to Solus in the meantime, but he has also said Abyssals won't be a big thing in the past so, he could very well just be joking

I'm gonna put a lot of response under the cut so it doesn't clog people's dashes, but as a general statement: I'm generally fine with spoilers, but am looking to avoid information about story. Anything about mechanics, new Nexomon, even characters or updated designs is fine. But I do like to avoid knowing about story. Nothing you said is a problem, just putting that out there for future reference.

I kinda like the Arcane decision. Psychic was hysterically overpowered in Extinction, with the only things that resist it being things it also resists (Mineral and other Psychic), and the things it's weak to being weak to it (Electric and Ghost). Grass was relatively strong, but neutral damage means Psychic can still push through. Normal was also super weak. Two weaknesses, no strengths, an inconsistent status that relied on Mineral-type attacks to boost their damage. Normal was really bad. Ghost was balanced though. I'll be a little sad to see it go, but Arcane sounds like a fine replacement, depending on what it does.

Type percentage, however, is some nonsense. Not in a way I'm opposed, but in a way where I'm confused how it works. Assuming we go back to the old type wheel (please go back to the old type wheel), if you have something that's 80% Electric and 20% Water, and you're hit with a Mineral-type move...what happens? Like, if the base damage is 100, Electric is a factor of 25% boost for weakness, Water cuts 35%, but are those boosts and reductions also hit by the percentage, so it's a 20% boost and 7% reduction so it's only 13% stronger? Because that would be wonky. Again, I'm cool with it, but it sounds chaotic.

I may try to look it up. In fact, one moment.

Okay I couldn't find anything. If you have a link readily available feel free, but don't worry too much. I'm not too worried about seeing designs right away.

As for story. The Abyssals not being a huge deal is still very possible. I don't think they need to be prominent in the next game to be significant here, so I'd be a bit bummed they didn't get more play, but not entirely surprised. Something almost definitely happens to Solus, since they're a clear target, it's just a matter of what. The big thing that bugs me is "possibly has to be male." That would honestly suck a lot out of it for me. I do not like that being forced. I know it should be inconsequential, but it's because it's so inconsequential there's no reason to make it only male. It would be an unnecessary and shitty limitation drawn solely from the decision to go 3D with the graphics, and I will not be happy with that trade. I could give a shit about graphics. Hopefully it's just typical "male as default" marketing and they have a female design as well.

Hello! I have looked through your resources for fic writers, but there was one piece of info I couldn't find: do women (and lol, in particular the MDZS women) have courtesy names the way the men do? Like Wei Ying --> Wei Wuxian or Lan Zhan --> Lan Wangji. I know the women play a much smaller role in the novel than they do in the drama so maybe it just isn't mentioned. If you don't know, can you point me to any blogs that might? Thank you!!

They do as far as I know but it doesn't come up much in MDZS.

The only ones who have courtesy names that I can remember off the top of my head are -

Luo Qingyang, Yu Ziyuan, Jiang Yanli

And I think that's it? We actually don't know their birth names though since, as far as I remember, it is never stated. But yes, women do have courtesy names too. We never get the courtesy names of Wen Qing, Qin Su, Madam Lan and Madam Jin though, unfortunately.

Thank you so much for your help and for not lashing out 😅 I have the bad flaw of being naive and when several people say the same thing and sound certain of it, I tend to believe it. It was the same with the first Lily Evans fancanon and the allegations of her being transphobic. I believed it for a while, then I decided to do my research and saw it had no backup whatsoever so I dropped it. (Still not my fancast but just bc i dont see her as my Lily).

I read the link you sent, the apology does seem quite complete and sincere. With supportive links and everything. Which changes everything imo. Yes, ATYD is not perfect, but no fic ever is. I still dislike the lack of POC representation and its negative stereotypes but well, in 2017 I also didn't make as diverse OCs as today. I wrote what I knew, what I was exposed to. With maturity and social media, that changes.

What does the name of Maggie "Phantasma" mean? Why did you gave her that name?

Oooohhh that's a good question!

Okay this is going to be a long post.

So first of all when I looked for an alias for her I wanted something that Maggie herself would give herself, which means something that would fit her abilities, personality, interests but also story. I didn't wanted to just give her the name Shadow or Phantom cause none of them were something I thought yes that's it. None of them really fit to the whole spectrum of her. I was also considering to name her Ghost or Echo but they were already taken and for I wanted a name that didn't existed yet in Marvel. Besides that with them I also kinda had the same problem like I had with Shadow and Phantom, it didn'tincluded everything. Then I googled for synonyms and found the words "Phantasma" and "Phatasmagoria.

So here we go: (Btw I kinda just translated the german wiki page of phantasma here cause there's no real english wiki page to it. For Phantasmagoria I took the infos from wikipedia and an article I found while looking this up I linked them down there too)

When I read about all of this I instantly thought this is it! Cause it fits so many of her abilities, her story but also interests of philosophy, psychology and theater. It was also perfect that Phantasma is used as synonym for phantom/ghost/illusion cause in her story that's kinda how she's always described as a ghost an illusion or phantom a horror story but nothing that really exist etc. Another reason was in her story she couldn't remember her life before HADES or who she was for a very long time and she also had lots of traumatic experiences that made her to the person who she is today and kinda "created" her. She also rebelled against unworthy circumstances as she was the one who destroyed HADES and she also works like some sort of defense as she tries to protect everyone from what is left of HADES so no one has to suffer the same fate she had too and in the same moment she tries to repress her memories of HADES and what happened to her there.

So that's why I went with Phantasma, cause it conected so many aspects of her in one name.

Disabling Specific Minecraft Mobs (in Java)

There was a great post about disabling spiders in Minecraft a few days ago and in the notes people kept asking about disabling other mobs too, so I thought I’d make my own post summing up at least some of the resources, starting with the easy ones:

Phantoms:

You can do this with a vanilla command! All you need to do is to enable cheats when you create your world and then run this:

/gamerule doInsomnia false

insomnia is the effect that triggers phantom spawns when you don’t sleep.

Warden:

Same as phantoms! You can use a command!

/gamerule doWardenSpawning false

Other Mobs:

Someone suggested the Bad Mobs mod at CurseForge. I haven’t tried this myself but it looks legit?

If you don’t want to use a mod, there’s the datapack option, and I’m gonna put a cut here because I’m just gonna teach you how to make the datapack yourself based on your own needs. (I promise you, this method is super easy, and you’ll feel so fancy after making your own datapack)

(Some already exist btw, try searching on Planet Minecraft first)

I’ll also include some extra tips at the end that you might wanna check out either way, even if you don’t want to use a datapack.

[Disclaimer: I’m not an expert, I might get things wrong. I have successfully made all these things that I’m describing here, though, so I hope I know enough.]

@chu-likes-minecraft made a handy no spiders datapack which can easily be edited to apply to other mobs. The datapack is on Planet Minecraft (I would link to it but sometimes posts with links don’t show up in tags. It’s very easy to find, though, just search for “no spiders” and you should find a datapack from a user called Chu03.)

You can just download the datapack, unpack it, then go down the folders like so: data > ns > functions and open the file named “tick“.

It should look like this:

Look up the ID of the mob(s) that you want to get rid of. You can find this info on the Minecraft wiki. Usually it’s pretty obvious but it doesn’t hurt to check.

If it’s just a single specific type of mob that has no other variants, you can delete all the code in the file and replace it with this:

execute as @a at @s if entity @e[type=MOB_ID_HERE,distance=0..50] run tp @e[type=MOB_ID_HERE] 0 -65 0

Replace “MOB_ID_HERE” with the ID of the mob you want to remove! Bolding is just for emphasis obviously. Note that I changed “tag“ to “type“.

(The reason why this is so much simpler is because you don’t need a tag when you’re only targetting one type of mob, you can just target it directly. But if you want to target multiple mobs, using a tag is more efficient)

If there are multiple variants of the mob you don’t like or if you want to target multiple kinds of mobs, you can use Chu’s original spider code as is and just replace the spider and cave spider with your mobs, and come up with a new collective tag for those mobs. Let’s say you wanna get rid of endermites and silverfish because you don’t like creepy crawlies; this should work:

tag @e[type=endermite] add creepy_crawlies tag @e[type=silverfish] add creepy_crawlies execute as @a at @s if entity @e[tag=creepy_crawlies,distance=0..50] run tp @e[tag=creepy_crawlies] 0 -65 0

Wanna also get rid of bees? Just add bees to the “creepy_crawlies” tag like this:

tag @e[type=endermite] add creepy_crawlies tag @e[type=silverfish] add creepy_crawlies tag @e[type=bee] add creepy_crawlies execute as @a at @s if entity @e[tag=creepy_crawlies,distance=0..50] run tp @e[tag=creepy_crawlies] 0 -65 0

I’m pretty sure you can use any wording that isn’t an already existing tag in Minecraft? (Although sometimes you might actually want to just use the existing tag instead, just make sure you know what it includes.)

Once you’re ready, just save the file. You don’t have to worry about any of the other files in the pack, just leave them the way they are. Go back up the folders until you get to the level that has the “data“ folder and the “pack“ file and then just repack the pack into a .zip and give it a new name. Make sure you’re packing the “data“ folder and the “pack“ file, not a folder above them. If you unpacked the original datapack into a folder, don’t include that folder in your pack.

Image to clarify:

(You don’t have to use 7-Zip, any equivalent program is fine. #NotSponsored)

Your datapack is now ready. I recommend testing it in a test world first to make sure it works. You can just give yourself the spawn egg in creative and try spawning the mobs and if the pack is working they should immediately disappear as you spawn them in.

If they don’t, try the command /reload. If it still doesn’t work, save and quit to title, then open the world again. If it still doesn’t work, check the pack itself to see if you did everything correctly. Compare to the original no spiders pack to see if you accidentally did something differently.

BONUS: you can also edit the “pack“ file to include your own name in the credits along with Chu’s, but this is not necessary.

Other packs that have already been made and can be found on Planet Minecraft: no zombies, no drowned, no skeletons, no wither skeletons.

Also yes, I did actually make the no endermites/silverfish one because I had to double check that the code I pasted here actually worked so I uploaded that on Planet Minecraft too.

Some extra tips:

If you remove spiders, I recommend adding a custom crafting datapack that allows you to turn wool into string. You can download one from Vanilla Tweaks for example. vanillatweaks (dot) net -> crafting tweaks.

There are also websites that allow you to make your own custom crafting datapacks. One that I’ve used and that is up to date as of version 1.18 is thedestruc7i0n (dot) ca (choose the “crafting” button)

With custom crafting packs you can add your own preferred way to get the resources that you’re missing out on. (This is also handy for people who just don’t want to murder a specific kind of mob, like if you really love cows and don’t wanna kill them you can make a custom recipe for leather. Although in that specific case, Vanilla Tweaks already has a datapack for smelting rotten flesh into leather which I recommend.)

Vanilla Tweaks also has a custom villager pack under “datapacks“ which allows you to spawn in a custom villager to trade with, who you can have selling the items you need.

Another option is to edit loot tables to get that drop in some other way. A tool I’ve used for this before is at amaury (dot) carrade (dot) eu / minecraft / loot_tables (this one is a bit complicated but it’s useful! Just take your time figuring it out.)

If I were to rec One Thing as a starting point for Robin Jason, Batman #408-#429 covers Jason’s main run as Robin and his death arc and is the main essential reading I’d recommend. It’s fairly short and a good place to start imo! 

Among others, it includes his post-crisis origin and first outing as Robin, his first meeting with Dick, the Garzonas incident, and his death and its immediate aftermath in the Death in the Family arc. 

While Jason’s time as Robin in post crisis is fairly short and not as hard to get through as other characters with longer runs, i know Reading Comics Hard so I’ll make a shorter list first, with more recs under the cut!

I’ll be referencing this Jason reading list, since it’s what I followed when I started reading. It can be checked for a more comprehensive list of his appearances too, since I’m not aiming for a full list! (though I might edit it to include more stuff eventually.)

First things first, Jason got rebooted once during his time as Robin; he was originally a circus kid like Dick in pre-crisis (before the reboot), and later in post-crisis got his more well-known origin as the orphan who stole the tires off the batmobile. I’ll be focusing on post-crisis Robin Jason since I’m still reading his pre-crisis run, but the list I linked has more info on that if you’re interested!

Legends (six-part miniseries) - A DC crossover event! Jason has short but great appearances (the time where he breaks his leg, but wants to get up and help anyway).

Nightwing Year One #101-#106 - A rewrite of Dick's Nightwing origin with occasional Jason appearances until #106, which is a retelling of their first meeting where they work together to rescue Alfred. While I have Issues with the characterization of Jason in this, it has some cute moments and I’d be remiss to not include the story that introduces Dick’s nickname of “Little Wing” for Jason.

After his Death

Stuff dealing with the aftermath of Jason’s death and the impact it left on others. (Some of the stuff here is just listed for a single page or panel rather than a full story about Jason)

Batman #430-#432 + #496 - Bruce in the aftermath of Jason’s death.

Detective Comics #618 - Has a nice little moment of Tim looking up to Jason.

Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #100 - The issue is mainly a Dick origin story, but in the end there’s a sweet and sad story about Jason’s beginning and ending as Robin.

Nightwing Secret Files and Origins - On the first story, Taking Wing, Jason appears to Dick as a dream/hallucination while the latter is having a near-death experience and accompanies him through various of Dick’s memories.

Joker: Last Laugh #6 - The one time when, upon believing Tim was killed and being taunted with Jason’s death, Dick kills the Joker. (the full thing is a six-issue miniseries)

Nightwing (1996) #63 - The aftermath of Dick killing the Joker (though he was revived), but I’m mainly including this for the one panel that shows a picture of Dick and Jason on what seems to be a ski trip.

Batman: Gotham Knights #34 - At the end there’s a story called “The Delusions of Alfred Pennyworth” about Jason’s ghost and Alfred.

Batman: Gotham Knights #43-#45 - Has a flashback to a Barbara and Jason teamup and a recap of Jason’s death as a social worker looks into it and investigates Bruce’s family.

Detective Comics #790 - Bruce talks to Cass about Jason on the day of Jason’s birthday.

Robin V4 #85 - The story itself is about the Joker reflecting on the Robins and Jason only appears briefly, but I think it’s worthwile to include as it’s one of the few times where the involvement of Jason’s mother in his death is acknowledged after Death in the Family. (Also there’s a panel where Jason kicks the joker on the crotch)

Green Arrow V3 (2001) #7 - The one panel where Jason is shown swinging around in heaven :)

Alternate Universes/Other Media

Some stuff that doesn’t fit anywhere else/isn’t quite comics/isn’t really canon, but I think is neat and wanted to include!

Letters - letters from readers sent during when Jason was Robin and after his death. They can be interesting to look through to get a sense of how he was seen by readers at the time (there’s even an eulogy by a clergyman!). The ones I’ve seen can be found in this tag, and this post links to a few too (as well as some other info regarding Jason and the vote that led to his death).

The Batman Files - A book that contains several files over various topics and characters across Batman’s history. Among other things, it has Jason’s death certificate. (mainly including this because early on I spent a while trying to find out how old he was when he died)

Ah, that was more of a comment that one could write one. (I actually misread ‘on’ as ‘in’ and interpreted the tag as being about how you could, using the info they were looking at, instead of what it’s actually saying, which is that there’s an extant post.) I’ve written on this before, but not as a specific essay that’s exactly that. (IDK what post they were thinking of. Probably one of FINR’s or maybe one of mine I’ve forgotten or maybe one of a billion other people’s.)

It’s part and parcel of the radfem indoctrination of queer youth and overlaps with “the q slur” bullshit.

Essentially, a lot of purity culture looks like one or both of conservative Christianity and radical feminism. On tumblr, it’s often being spread by trans youth who are understandably incensed to be told they sound like that (”How dare you? I’m not a TERF!”) but it’s the kinkshaming I’m talking about, not a stance on transness.

Basically, a lot of people unlearned “queer bad” from their childhoods but failed to unlearn “queer sex bad”.

And a lot of other people are basically fighting the anti-porn side of the feminist sex wars. That’s a legitimate stance... if you’re a middle aged person who actually feels that way and knows what the sides of the debate are. But these are kids who’ve never heard of this debate at all.

A huge portion of anti-ao3 wank is basically a fight over whether rape fantasies are healthy vs. unfeminist and sick, plus whether this sort of thing is Bad Representation (of POC, of queer people, etc.).

Beyond that, there are a lot of bad actors taking advantage of fandom’s credulity. I’ve been working on the Fanlore article on that steaming pile of homophobia about “boo hoo, male friendship”. Many of the rebloggers are queer youth with nominally very pro-queer views. The OP, however, was an anti-abortion conservative Christian at the time of posting (and probably still, but I think it’s important to stay open to the possibility that people are still working their shit out and may hold different stances 4 years later while their long-deleted viral post circulates forever).

for starters, i've talked briefly abt age 801 on my twitter before but i'd be glad to talk about it here too HAHA

though i haven't actually played this first hand so i won't go into too much detail in fear of giving wrong information. BUT BASICALLY there was this game called Dragon Ball Online, which "was a massive multiplayer online role-playing game being developed in Japan and South Korea by NTL, set in the Dragon Ball universe." again i didnt play it but from what i understand it takes place 200 ish years after the end of the buu arc in dbz.

age 801 is the year of goku's death, but it goes deeper than that LOL

APPARENTLY as goku realized his time to die was approaching, he reached out to vegeta, and the two of them LEFT EARTH WITHOUT A WORD and traveled to a far away planet in the middle of no where to have one final battle where they both went out in a blaze of glory. i don't remember where i heard this but apparently their death battle caused a supernova that was seen from earth years later

i desperately wish i had more info on this to tell you, but i never played the game and the wiki is painfully short so !! like i wonder how long they were traveling before they found a planet far enough away,, if it took years to see the supernova then they must have been traveling for a very very long time. ALSO A SUPERNOVA??? i'm rewatching dbz rn and i'm really obsessed with this one little filler arc that happens immediately after the saiyan arc. vegeta's on his way to some freeza planet to heal up, and goku's hospitalized. it's not very much content bc it's actually just a little side-thing that's shown while the Real filler is happening but i still love it regardless

i'm soo obsessed with this cinematic parallel here LOL i love that they're both healing from this battle at the same time but theyre also both thinking about what happened like. a LOT lol, pretty much any time either of them are on screen they're thinking about the fight that just happened HAHA

vegeta is literally floating in a healing pod dreaming about the fight whispering "kakarot" over and over?? and goku keeps sneaking out of the hospital to train for when vegeta comes back??

idk i just love it a lot LOL I KNOW ITS KINDA SMALL AND SEEMS LIKE IM REALLY GRASPING HERE BUT,, IDK I MEAN. the way the show sets it up so that's its like. vegeta in a healing pod saying "kakarot" (and NOTHING ELSE HAPPENS IN THE SCENE BTW HE'S JUST LIKE. "KAKAROT,,," AND THEN IT TRANSITIONS AHHA FDJH) and then immediately cuts to goku trying to sneak out of the hospital to train for vegeta's return (or smth similar)?? like the show is obviously trying to set up this parallel here between them and like. idk whether this is intentional or not but it DOES come off pretty gay imo LMAODJFJH

AND LIKE. OKAY i know vegeta's excuse is revenge and i know goku's excuse is wanting to protect earth when vegeta returns but,,, u also have to remember that goku LET VEGETA GO FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF SEEING HIM AGAIN LOL SO LIKE. basically this whole scene is goku being like "omg i'm too excited i can't just sit here in the hospital?? i have to train i have to be ready for him" LOL

this entire little filler is just so... like idk i feel like. during the fight they both had some wild thoughts and emotions flying around that they couldn't really sit down and piece together at that time (because.... they were amidst a life or death battle LOL) but this downtime is really important, like the seed has been planted and now they're both gonna spend time sitting here stewing and thinking about each other?? like this is IT, this is the first of many, many times that they'll be thinking about one another. this is how feelings start blooming hehe

one more thing, there's this scene where goku sneaks out of the hospital successfully and goes to train in the middle of nowhere but he overexerts himself terribly and falls, and as he's about to fall to his death he starts thinking about vegeta LOL

THIS HAPPENS A LOT BUT WHENEVER GOKU IS ABOUT TO DIE HE HAS A HABIT OF USING VEGETA AS LIKE. AN ANCHOR TO KEEP HIMSELF ALIVE AND PUSH FORWARD LOL
