an incomplete list of everything that ticked me off about the all-valley tournament, from a real martial artist:
why are they all on the same skill level? kk1 at least had the decency to textually lie about daniel being a black belt
furthermore, where the fuck is the age bracket? there is no world where an 11-year-old would be allowed to fight a 17-year-old in a legitimate tournament! that's not how it works! are you listening to me writers i'll fucking kill you for this
gender brackets are a thing but the all-valley is just. so fucking small. i've been to mini-tournaments with more people than that and we didn't have gender brackets
ALSO unrelated but i fucking hate it when they announce the "first ever female winner" of something and it's because they changed the rules so they could win. not like if they weren't allowed to fight in the first place but honestly if cobra kai wanted the samtory rematch they should've just let them beat all the guys. fuck you if you think tory couldn't beat robby's ass
SPEAKING OF changing the rules WHY WAS THERE ONLY ONE JUDGE??? THERE'S NEVER ONLY ONE JUDGE. YOU HAVE THREE SO THAT ALL POINTS CAN BE CALLED AND YOU DON'T HAVE BIASED JUDGING. I WILL LITERALLY KILL BECAUSE OF THIS POINT DID THEY DO NO FUCKING RESEARCH
again, WHY THE FUCK DID A MIDDLE SCHOOLER FIGHT AN ALMOST ADULT
WHO IS RUNNING THIS FUCKING TOURNAMENT. THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THE FUCK THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT
why was there no protective equipment i mean sure in some styles they don't do that but hawk shouldn't have been allowed to fight shirtless at least
Cobra Kai is so so funny to me, an actual junior black belt, because it is ABUNDANTLY obvious that none of the writers have ever been to an actual karate tournament—how come these kids are doing full-contact point sparring without gear? (That’s illegal) What is up with the ranking system, are there no skill classes? (There are at least 4 skill classes at every tournament: beginner, novice, advanced, and black belt, yet everyone in the show is magically a black belt ONLY at the AVT) HOW the FUCK is an accidental elbow to the face considered illegal contact but breaking a kid’s nose isn’t considered excessive force? (The rules are insanely inconsistent. Like, Miguel was given 30 minutes to come back post-injury in S4 but calling a medic to check Hawk in S5 was a forfeit) Why is BOARD BREAKING in the same division as weapons? How come there’s only ONE point judge/referee? Why did they make separate gender divisions but not age divisions? WHY IS THERE ONLY ONE TOURNAMENT IN THE ENTIRE CIRCUIT?
The day may be coming to an end, but it is never too late to appeal to the United States government to make December 19th the nationally recognized holiday of You're Alright, LaRusso Day
thinking about how hawk joined miyagi do instead of eagle fang in s4 after the two dojos split again just because he's in love with demetri demetri asked him to
Joined a friendo in doing an online module class situation for medieval calligraphy because he was sitting next to me at the table and demanded I get in on the action. I was explaining the intricacies and foibles of calligraphing as a leftie, but sometimes when a delightful human keeps thrusting a goose quill pen at you and insisting you have a good time, you just relent and do it.
And when you finish your janky alphabet practice and they tell you, "Now make something silly!" Well... you remember that they are the reason you were able to watch Theeeee Karate Kid Part 3 and meet Terry Roundhouse Caperscheme Silver. And you remind THEM that Cobra Kai never dies.
(It had exactly the desired effect of eliciting ebullient, near-falling laughter. Crane-kicked their heart right in the face with friendship. Point: me. 😂🏆😁🥰)
