Here’s some photos of my cat Kepler. He is a snow bengal, he’s as dumb as a box of rocks, and gets stuck in random places a lot.

It took 5 different vets over 7 separate visits and subq fluids for one of them to find my cat’s bladder and get a urine sample. Is there any way I would be able to make it easier for them to get a sample aside from making sure he drinks lots of water, or is my cat just cursed with a weirdly hard to find bladder?

If a cat has a very small bladder (which is often the case with UTI’s or partial blockages, since they are urinating so often due to discomfort), it can be next to impossible to obtain a sample from them. This is especially true if they are overweight/obese. We will sometimes send home non-absorbent plastic litter with the instructions to use a new or thoroughly bleached/cleaned litterbox and keep only the cat in question in a room by itself and wait until it urinates. However, a sample like that is considered at least a little bit “contaminated” because it had to go through the urethra which naturally contains bacteria and rest on a surface that probably has at least some bacteria even if bleached, and we prefer a “clean” sample using a needle and ultrasound in many cases especially if they have been treated unsuccessfully. So it’s likely nothing that you or your cat could change!

8. What introduced you into pet keeping?

Oh gosh, there’s a couple answers for this, I guess. My family had pets when I was very little, starting with my sister’s two budgies. They were NOT cared for well at all, unfortunately. But my first experience of doing pet care was cleaning their cage on weekends. And then helping out with the family cat we got after that, and then the dog.

My first pet of my own was a betta fish. Again, first one didn’t have great care - 1g bowl, no heat, fed only pellets. But I loved him and I learned to provide better with each of my next two betta fish. Second one started with a 5g tank and moved to a 10g one, and the third one got the 10g with heat and better food.

My special interest in pet care really started with my hedgehog Lily, when I was 18. I didn’t do enough research on care before getting her, but started catching up fast 6 months later when I found the Hedgehog Central forums. Thus began the obsession, and since then, I’ve gathered as much information as I could on animal care, nutrition, enrichment, etc. I’ve never wanted to make the same mistake of being unprepared for a new pet like I did with her & my betta fish.

9. How old were you when you got your first pet?

I believe I got my first betta fish when I was in 8th or 9th grade? So around 13-14 years old. We got our family cat when I was 8 or so, and the dog when I was 10, I think.

11. Have you recently gotten into an argument with someone over pet care?

Lmao, the answer to this at literally any point in time is always going to be “yes”! Most recent has probably been the outdoor cat arguments, I think. Although what happens far more often is I rage at friends/partners about people being awful at animals or doing irresponsible things....and then I answer the actual person in question politely/helpfully as I can manage, to try to help the animal. That’s what my pattern always was on the hedgehog forum when I was active there. (But this doesn’t usually work with outdoor cat arguments because outdoor cat advocates are infuriating as hell, tbh)

3, 19, and 20!

3. Any family that you know?

Unfortunately i dont know family from either Nova or Sirius. Nova was a stray that a good samaritan dropped off at the shelter when he was around 2 so i have no history on him before that. When i was first getting sirius as a baby one of her brothers was still with the foster family, i tried to convince my parents to take him too but they didn't, and i never actually got to meet him :(

19. How do they express love for you?

Sirius is excited about me all the time!! She's just always so happy to see me and its really sweet!!! She knows shes not allowed to jump up on me so when i come home she runs up the stairs and sticks her head through the railings so she can reach my face for kisses :') Nova is a lot more mellow, but he adores physical contact and always wants to cuddle with me, usually at bed time when he can come lay next to my head on the pillow ❤❤

20. How do you express love for them?

All the kisses! I'm constantly loving on them through out the day, its a never ending stream if pats and kisses whether they want it or not haha

I found a cat (either a stray or a neglected outdoors cat) with a lot of mats and bald patches. I phoned a vet clinic and asked if they could shave the cat for me and look for a microchip, but they said they couldn't do anything with the cat because I didn't own it. Even though I was willing to pay. I'm not entirely sure why they turned me down. Would there be some sort of legal repercussions for them to treat a stray cat? Tax- what is your favourite/least favourite colour of cat?

Depends where you are and what the relevant laws are, but they should be able to scan the microchip and admit the cat as a stray.

While you legally can’t have procedures done to a cat which is owned by somebody else, sometimes things will get done anyway if it’s in the best interest of the cat, but if it’s severe the clinic might want to preserve evidence for a possible welfare case.

The waters also get kind of muddy when somebody else has payed for things for an owned stray cat, and the clinic may just elect to just do minor things that need doing anyway, and transfer those costs to the real owner.

There’s also historically been cases where animals have been presented as a stray, the finder has payed for treatments, and then tried to claim the animal from the real owner because they paid for things. So it’s generally recommended not to commit to much beyond first aid until you’ve at least tried to find who the real owner is. If it has one.

6. Favorite TV show at the moment?

I haven’t been watching a lot of TV recently but oh my god Megalo Box?? Is fantastic?? Honestly everything from the art style to the storyline is stunning and I love it so muchhh 16. What pets do you have/want to have?

19. do they tend to panic in certain situations or are they more calm?

it’s a mix of both! in some situations glass will go fully off the rails, but typically she tends towards being calm. honestly i wouldn’t be surprised if it freaked some cats out with how absolutely scary calm she gets sometimes

20. are they vengeful?

glass is SO forgiving that it makes me ill. the only person she’s really “vengeful” towards is coalstar, and i don’t even know if i’d call what she feels towards her vengeful, she just doesn’t really see her as a cat at this point, just a predator.

30. which highschool movie stereotype would they fit best?

she’s like a popular girl but a sweet popular girl. probably like the Golden Couple w/ larch. she gives you makeovers for free
