Teamed up their FABULOUS sketchbook with two of my favorite @kuretakezig_usa liners, the #millennium 03 and medium #bimoji! ・・・ Awesome #sketchbook #illustration by Adam Harris (@1800getatom) of demigod Maui from Disney's Moana giving Captain Hook a bit of hook envy! Adam, you were right... I can totally imagine The Rock trying out a Crocodile Dundee impression with a big ol' smile on his face. Drawn in his Airship #AlphaSketch notebook, Adam did an amazing job reproducing not only the classic Peter Pan villain (love that surprised and envious look on his face), but also the various patterns of Maui's tattoos and the etchings on his massive, magic hook! Reality is limited my many things that are out of our control. You are who you are (or as Popeye said, "I am what I am."), and although your location is not fixed, for many people it is not a simple task to move to someplace COMPLETELY new your location is fixed. But in truth, you can escape that reality whenever you want, as the true limits only exist outside your own imagination. Moreover, you can stretch those limits and allow others to experience your own piece of pure imagination (for better or worse) by creating your own little world in story and narrative and verse, or in drawn illustration. Build your own world. Make a place you find relaxing or exciting or fun. What makes it interesting? Towering mountains? Mythic creatures? An endless river? People with unexplained powers? An inland sea made of root beer? In your land, anything is possible. Alternatively, you can escape through portals others have created in books and paintings and sketches and screenplays and graphic novels. Roll a few dice. Turn a few pages. Find another kind of mind out there and see the way someone else sees. Just remember that, while losing yourself in dream and myth is good and healthy to escape the humdrum of everyday life, you should work to ground yourself in reality with family and friends, or hobbies, or pets, or something else that makes reality worth living. A great bit of #penandink #sketchbook #illustration by Scott Monaco (@quietyellsketches), (drawn in his Airship #AlphaSketch notebook), which shows how seriously vikings can take petty theft. That wee lil dragon was just trying to build up his treasure hoard… but Leif Smasherson does not take kindly to having his money pouch stolen!

Love the mix of the look of worry on the fleeing dragon’s face and the angry yet determined look on the viking’s face. There are also some nice, crisp, clean lines and some subtle shading to make this drawing just kind of “pop,” and just enough perspective to make it look like these characters might run off the page! Nice work, Scott!

Some cool #penandink #architectural sketches by Matt Gruneberg (@grunebergart) in his Airship #AlphaSketch notebook! I love how the house looks like it started two smaller homes—one built directly into a tree, and another built around a second tree—and then grew over time into a full house that connects both of them together. Great use of texture and different material types… it really looks like the house was expanded upon several times over the years. It also reminds me of something a hobbit might live in… you know, if hobbits lived around trees and not underground. Maybe a house for gnomes instead? Or just a very woodsy sort of person. Well, I know I wouldn’t mind checking out the interior of this house! In this #penandink #sketchbook doodle by Rob Turpin (@thisnorthernboy) the inhabitants of a cliff-dwelling house travel the seas on a mysterious floating island... but no one seems to bother them. They either have some killer security system, or they’ve tapped into some Elder God magic and fastened a dozen or so tentacles to their chunk of terra firma. Security and propulsion... and only at the sake of a few points of sanity? Sounds like a deal to me! Sometimes you just have to play around with your creative tools, have some fun with the creative process, and just see what you can make. This (of course) is not meant to be a "serious video." It started as a foray into trying out some drawing, shading, and object manipulation techniques in the iPad app, @procreate. The only REAL objects in this video were the Airship AlphaSketch notebook (pretty, ain't she?) and a piece of an old map I had laying around the house. The jagged edges of the map and its dirty complexion were added to make it look like it has been partially burnt & crumpled. The table is actually a texture brush in Procreate, which just looks like planks of wood. If you run it over the same place multiple times in different opacities, you get a decently realistic looking table. I think one of my favorite parts is the red pencil. Procreate does an amazing job rendering pen lines and pencil markings that look realistic. In this case, the pencil was meant to be an HB Pencil, a pencil whose graphite consists of a medium hardness... most similar to the American #2 pencil. It's quite realistic in shape and how it changes in weight and texture as you move the Apple Pencil across the screen. All the parts were arranged in layers, so they could be moved, scaled and shaded independently. Though that mechanism, I was able to hide portions of the illustration, save it in different states, and then piece it together in the app Quik by GoPro, which allowed for the unique motions, music, text (silly at it was) and "slide" changes. All in all, I'm pretty happy how it all came out. Once I got to the point of setting up the video I wasn't entirely sure how to "end" it. Since it was never a serious piece, I decided to keep it on the comical side with the text and "theme," which I hope everyone appreciates to some extent. Even if not, the final video was never the point of this project. The point of the the project was to play around with the act of its creation.
