the thing is, i don’t disagree that what and how you choose to write about things is a reflection of you, the writer, and cannot be divorced from your beliefs and biases. but to assume that anyone can perfectly pick out your beliefs from a piece of fiction you’ve written is an extremely weird and paranoid thing to claim, especially if you’re positing that the secret truth is that the writer is a dangerous person and they’re “revealing” that through fiction that upsets you, personally. at the end of the day, the artist is not the art, and no matter how upsetting, no matter how much you dislike it, no matter how much it disgusts you, you don’t know the person who made it and you can only guess how who they are shaped what they made.

like, really, is it more likely that the secret “belief” that’s being revealed when you’re reading something that is really upsetting to you is that the author is a secret Bad Person™️ who wants all of this fantasy to happen in real life, or that the author knows it’s a safe and normal thing to create upsetting works of fiction and so did that.

they cast a 28 year old for Tyson 💀

yeah, i saw - i wasn't holding onto hope of them casting a disabled actor for Tyson (still disappointed, just not surprised) but casting a 28 year old for a middle schooler is really out of left field. It's just an odd choice? Particularly given how much they've been emphasizing age-accurate casting so far.

It makes me really wonder what major rewrites they have planned for Tyson's character. Because as things stand currently there's no way to make Tyson's existing character work with this casting. Tyson is supposed to be in Percy's grade, but Daniel Diemer sticks out like a sore thumb against the child actors. Tyson being in Percy's grade is pretty important for the entire arc of Sea of Monsters with the main character arc being Percy combating internalized ableism and establishing him as a character who stands up for other marginalized kids. If they remove that, what's Percy's arc going to be for that entire season? At what point are they going to establish that about his character? Or are they just going to exposition it at us like usual with nothing backing it up and no actual character progression? And in later seasons the age gap is only going to be more prominent - like how is Tyson going to work in BoTL or TLO? Are they planning on removing his character entirely for those scenes? Are they going to remove him as a recurring character in general? It'd be really weird if they killed him off or something.

I'm also afraid for if they do try to keep Tyson's disability coding in some form - cause there's kind of no good way it can go at this point. Either they completely erase Tyson's coding because they cast an abled actor for him and that messes up the entire arc of the book and his character particularly in relation to Percy, or they have an abled actor attempt to portray a character heavily coded as having down syndrome (and i believe they're already doing similar with iirc Chiron's actor is abled but they're doubling-down in the show on Chiron being disabled) and given how they've written the neurodivergence themes (or absence there of) in the show so far there's just no way that'd end well. Like, Tyson's characterization is a little questionable to begin with in the books, but given the show's writing so far it just feels like we're very rapidly ramping up for an extremely ableist characterization of Tyson. Like i'm sure Daniel Diemer is a great actor, but... i'm just getting real tired of the show erasing the entire premise of the series :T

Hello I read 3X3 yesterday, rewatched the ep earlier & read along, and I'm obsessed??

I've always heard & known how quick-witted Lee Mack is, and reading the script and then seeing exactly when he improvised in the episode made me appreciate him even more. Seeing the other actors adjust to his changes was fun as well!

The improv happens right away with the first question to Enid!

three bits & quick thoughts under the cut:

Gavin: We used to live along that line and that is.. Lee: Did we? I don't remember that. (laughter) Gavin: Uh...Bella and I used to live along that line... Lee: Not that again! (laughter) Look, I've got to confess. I might as well say it now. Bella, Maisie, I also used to go out with Gavin! I thought I'd let–just get it out now.

That entire section was great. James Bailey (Gavin)'s laugh/reaction was genuine!

Bigwins questioning their buzzer not working was cut out. Makes sense, that might've been too big a clue that something was wrong? Catherine answering before Lee finished reading the question (about Matthew Hopkins, no less) was a huge moment already.

On first watch I definitely wasn't listening to what Margaret was saying as she was struggling with the booth door, so it was great to read it here. And the hare being written into the script (officially the second time?) - ha!

I was trying to not comment on the topic cause I'd rather not be a party pooper, but I'm kinda surprised by the general atmosphere happening right now. If you have been keeping up with danvsyou for the last year, which is how long I've personally been present for, all this 'news' surrounding the reboot is kind of... nothing new. And even before the past year it's been the same issues preventing the reboot from going anywhere. I'm not in the dan vs discord nor care to be there, so I'm not sure what other details are being spread around entirely, keep that in mind for what's publicly available to me from an outside view. Last year we were supposed to have the fundraiser, and then we were told rights issues were the main issue- which was just reaffirmed with the script update. When I heard that there was going to be news I was honestly expecting it to be the fundraiser itself.

Do not get me wrong, it has been super cool seeing the fan reception, which is why I've been hesitant to speak my mind. You all have much more faith than me. With that, seeing part of a script means nothing, especially with the additional information Mandel said (he doesn't even know what medium the continuation will end up being, which has been a repeated sentiment for years too). Maybe that's the point, to make a call to arms? Cause really too many are acting like this is confirmation of things moving along swimmingly and are setting themselves up for disappointment when we're in the same dead water it's been for ten years

Affirm, affirm, affirm. Stick to new story no matter what. Repetition is the key for changing your assumptions. Visualise if you can. Make use of sleep/nap times to your advantage of reprogramming your mind. Listen to subliminals. Do new methods that seem fun. Have fun literally. Maintain a mental diet. Throw that old story out the equation. You have what you want. DOOR SLAM. Most importantly, live in the end. Put yourself on the pedestal. Take your power back.

Do what i said above (only the ones which you feel is comfortable, otherwise don't fucking stress about things you're not comfortable doing/can't do) for 3 days max, I guarantee you, you'll have a shift in your mindset and the 3d. Like literally change your fucking assumptions, working on it for 3 days, just 3 days.
