for the character development asks, 1, 11, 12, 14, and 18 for nora and al?

1. What was the first element of your OC that you remember considering (name, appearance, backstory, etc.)? 

With Nora it was mostly about sitting back and looking at everything that happens/you can do in the game and going "what the fuck kind of person goes through all this and is made to make these decisions?" and then deciding to look at every scrap of canon background information we get on Nate and Nora and build up more of my own version of the character from there. As for chosing Nora over Nate, I was just always far more drawn to the female option and seeing the story through her lens over Nate's.

Alberta was a similar story but more in the back end of thinking how young and naieve the Lone Wanderer was and how fucked up they must be from everything they went through, as well as both some of the similarities and larger differences in the stories of 3 and 4, and how it might go down if Nora were to meet that person post their own story - like a bit of a warped mirror / warning for how things can turn out badly even if you think you've won or done the right thing. From there I use them to patch up some story stuff with the Brotherhood since Nora's cut off from them at the point Al is introduced and worked my way backwards to their start, doing the same thing with looking into all of the 'canon' info we are given from the game to build off of (I like building off starting bases).

So, in both cases the I guess the story came first, but Nora already had a physical appearance while Al didn't have set looks or a name for awhile.

11. Did you know what the OC’s sexuality would be at the time of their creation?

✪ Nora: Yup. Bisexual + Poly was always going to be a thing for her, both because I just tend to make my OC's Bi as default sorta but also because the game lets you romance multiple/all companions too, so I'm taking that as (her) canon.

That said, as far as romance goes, she's still not going to romance all of the companions, and there's one or two where I really have to write their relationship progression to know for sure how it'll turn out in the end.

✝ Alberta: Wasn't as easily set in stone but I still knew that they'd be androsexual and not poly but having problems with sticking to monogamy for other reasons. I knew the basics of it but there's been other aspects that have grown as I've thought about them and their past.

12. What have you found to be most difficult about creating art for your OC (any form of art: writing, drawing, edits, etc.)?

I am a very... tired... individual, so a lot of the time doing most anything can be difficult honestly, and it takes me way longer than I think it should to get anything done. However, I do generally find writing easier when I get into it, and I don't do edits or anything so I guess drawing usually wins out as the hardest thing, especially because I feel like I never get what I wanted to do or how things should look right anyway.

14. If you had to narrow it down to 2 things that you MUST keep in mind while working with your OC, what would those things be?

It's hard to say anything that I absolutely must keep in mind. I sort of just know the characters, but also I don't mind if they go a little off-script because maybe it should be that way then? It's like when I write I'm mostly just channeling what needs to/should/will happen, and when they do go off-script I usually just continue to write it out and then see if it still fits after - if not then I snip it and put it in a spare document in case I still want to revisit whatever happened there.

If I had to say anything it would be that Nora is prideful and intelligent but wants to be good/nice and help others, and Al has a penchant for mistrust and dumb decisions/self-destruction.

18. What is the most recent thing you’ve discovered about your OC?

It's hard to say. At this point I know these two pretty well, and when I do come up with new things they are usually a culmination of other pieces of them that I've already put together - like adding another link in a chain or something, these discoveries just don't stand out on their own anymore.

I might have larger discoveries still sometime in the future, as I actually write their stories down more, but right now there's nothing big enough for me to recall.

1. i am a minor, if you don’t like that, then don’t interact with me. period.

2020 Creator Wrap: Favorite Works

Okay, okay, I know I’m late with this but the incredibly sweet @irolltwenties and the utterly delightful @anthrobrat were both kind enough to me in this bad boy and it seems really fun, so here we are!

Rules: it’s time to love yourselves! choose your 5 (or so) favorite works you created in the past year (fics, art, edits, etc.) and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you brought to the world in 2020. Tag as many writers/artists/etc. as you want (fan or original) so we can spread the love and link each other to awesome works!

According to my AO3 statistics page, I wrote just over 100K of fiction this year, across 17 different fandoms, a few of which won’t actually go live until after the New Year because they’re part of a gifting collection that hasn’t been revealed yet... Anyway, I picked my faves for a variety of reasons, listed briefly after each link. If you have any questions about works I’ve shared (or just in general) feel free to ask!

1. Front Row at the Gongshow

The Pacific, 16K, Rated G  Andrew ‘Ack Ack’ Haldane/Edward ‘Hillbilly’ Jones

Aside from being the longest completed work I produced this year, this is also the first fic I’ve ever written using the “found document” format. While there are parts of it I feel really conflicted about, I’m still incredibly proud of it and think it’s one of the better fic I’ve written...possibly ever. Which is doubly funny because I don’t usually do modern AUs of period fiction, but the hockey angle was enough to tempt and lo, here we are, lol.

"You all remember Eddie Jones, right? The corn-fed captain of the New Orleans Rougarou so wholesome he belongs on a box of Malt-O-Meal? The gentleman bruiser who spends his free time playing country tunes for kids with cancer?

Our favorite dapper D-man led his team to 97 points last night in a shut-out victory against the Los Angeles Kings, clinching a playoff spot for the first time in franchise history. Oh! And he also got caught on camera at the after-party, sucking face. WITH A DUDE."

2. Entremets

Hannibal, 8K, Rated E Will Graham/Hannibal Lecter

I have...so many Hannibal fic that I’ve started writing and haven’t finished because all my ideas lead to long plotty epics and also big name fandoms scare me. I did this one up for Eat, Drink, & Make Merry, and I’m really, really pleased with the way it turned out, considering it was my first foray into establishing new character voices and also a successful exercise in writing explicit content, which can be a bit of an Ordeal for me, so overall I’m incredibly happy with it. Plus! My deep and abiding love of writing characters cooking/eating/otherwise dealing with food finally paid off!

“The pâté was supposed to be more of a gesture,” Will explains, spreading a golden sliver of honeycomb out across a slice of sopressata with the blade of his pocket knife. “You don’t actually have to eat it. I’m not even sure if it’s any good.” He smears a healthy dollop of chȇvre across his meat-and-honey concoction and pops the whole thing into his mouth without ceremony.

“What better method exists by which to convey one’s appreciation of a gesture than to indulge it?”

3. An Ode to Matty Big-Time

The Good Place, 2K, Rated T Jason Mendoza/Original Male Characters, Pillboi

This one was actually a request made by my very dear @thesummoningdark, who wanted to see some bisexual Jason per that one fantastic Tumblr post about how everyone in TGP should be bi, and I’m really, really proud of the way it turned out. I love writing comedy and I very rarely get to lean into it as hard as I’d like, so delving into the whole wild craziness of Jacksonville, as explained in the show was really fun. I also love writing original characters, and this was a great excuse to indulge.

“We probably shouldn’t do any butt stuff,” Jason warns, with as much gravitas as he can muster. “I had two of Stupid Nick’s Disaster Buckets when I got here.”

“Yeah, your face is still kinda orange,” Mateo agrees fondly, bringing his other hand up to brush his thumb over Jason’s lower lip. It stirs a little frisson of heat in his belly that Jason is 68% sure isn’t just indigestion. “No chemical burns, though, so I think you came out on top.”

4. This and Who I Used to Be

The Tick (2017), 3K, Rated G Arthur Everest/Superian

Another new fandom I haven’t written in before, this was a fill for the Rare Male Slash Exchange that turned me on to a pairing I’d never even thought of before I wrote it and am now low-key obsessed with. It is also, to date, the ONLY Arthur/Superian fic on AO3 at all, which is a cool weird honor and fairly indicative of my life’s goal to eventually write my way into smaller and smaller fandoms until I come out the other side with original works. It was really fun to explore these characters, and to figure out some world-building for Superian’s backstory that fit within the tone and established canon of the extant Amazon!Tick universe. Also featuring an original character that nobody asked for but I’ve come to love unconditionally.

Arthur glances down to where Superian has one cheek pressed against his shoulder, humming something off-key and unintelligible with his eyes closed. Arthur sighs. “Let’s get you inside.”

He hauls Superian in until he can prop him against the wall while he shuts and locks the door behind him. When he looks back over, Superian is smiling at him, soft and lazy. He swings a finger in Arthur’s direction, a broad, sloppy motion, and announces, “I knew you’d say yes.”

“Technically I said fine,” Arthur rebuts. He gestures down the hallway toward the kitchen—which leads on to the bedroom, as Superian well knows—and sighs, “Come on. I don’t know what those handcuffs did to you, but you should probably lie down and have a glass of water or something.”

5. Rain in Its Season

Band of Brothers, 12K, Rated G Edward ‘Babe’ Heffron/John Julian

Oh boy. What to say about this one. It’s maybe not as polished as I might have preferred, but I feel that way about mostly everything I write and at the end of the day I do really love what I managed to do with this piece. Written for the Heavy Artillery Rare Pair Exchange, I managed to lean heavily into both my love for needlessly granular period research and original characters, which are abundant herein. Frankly, based on the very little we see of him in the show, Julian himself is practically an OC, but I digress. This was another of the longer pieces I’ve ever finished and I’m proud of it even if I’d’ve liked to write another 15K or so, time constraints notwithstanding.

“Tell me. Please. Why’re you here?”

Babe flinched, gaze dropping to the floor. His heart was a raw, swollen welt in his chest. He swallowed and licked his lips, slow and pained.

“Come on, Julian,” he rasped, low and quiet. “You know why.” He laughed, soft and hoarse, and shook his head, once. When he looked back up, Julian had taken a careful step into the center of the room. His eyes were very dark, his mouth very red, hope and fear warring in his every feature. Babe fisted his fingers in the cotton sheet underneath him, halfway to pleading as he insisted, “You gotta know.”

Julian sighed and came over to hover at the edge of the bed. Babe spread his legs to accommodate the intrusion.

“That was - ” Julian started. His voice failed midway through the protest, and he swallowed, took a breath, and regrouped at a lower volume. “You said that was just buddies, what we did over there. That it didn’t count. That you didn’t want it to.”

The TL;DR of this all being that while I didn’t write as much I wanted to this year in terms of volume, I feel like my quality has been improving consistently and hope it continues to do so into 2021 while I try to finish out some of my years-long WIPs and get into longer completed pieces.

Ninjago OC’s

I don’t really make ocs unless it’s plot specific but here are a few I have because it’s oc day I guess (this got so long I’m sorry)

Side Characters

Brody Grey and the Oppenheimer gang

Description: mid 20s, tip-dyed black hair (color is subject to change but he likes red), likes to wear tie-dye and anything from the 80s, average adult male height, Gay

Personality: overdramatic but with a rational head, energetic and likes to tease, gives good advice and father figure I guess?, love of reading and writing, can be flirty and cocky at times

Backstory: Was disowned by his parents when he came out and has had to make it on his own, Theater major at the Oppenheimer and successful too, was Cole’s roomate (they didn’t get along at first)

Plot Purpose: Cole-centric backstory exploration, Brody and co. reveal a lot about Cole’s past to the other ninja (more about the emo depressed grieving version in the pilots) and helps him come to terms with it, Also tell them you’re gay Cole, yeesh. The other friends are important to expanding the other ninja like Alex (non-binary, quiet, goth, Violinist) helps Jay deal with that he’s trans and coming out of the closet, Persila (bi, short blond, actor, excitable conspericy theorist and fandom queen) Probably figures out Jay is Cliff Gordon’s son, Melissa (lesbian, singer, Mom, sweet thing but easy to anger and holds a grudge) Was the first one Cole latched onto in the group because she reminded him so much of his mom [there are other things too with Nya and Kai and Zane but I don’t feel like elaborating more now], ANYWAY Jay takes Cole to see a musical and recognizes Brody (who he hasn’t been in contact with since he left) and they talk after the show leading down the road of all Cole’s old college friends meeting the ninja

Random Facts: He’s dating Vinnie and NO ONE CAN STOP ME, he’s sorta supposed to be Cole’s foil (where Cole is blasting My Chemical Romance and AC/DC he’s blasting Boogie Box High and SOS Band), he’s a mash of all the other ninjas personality’s not gonna lie

Tony Tabloid

Description: 12-14ish, shorter side but gets a major growth spurt when older, short black/brown hair, missing tooth, classic news boy hat that’s to big for him

Personality: Bright young boy with plenty of street smarts, will talk your ear off, full of himself and would fight anyone or anything no matter their size, very energetic but with a cool attitude

Backstory: Orphan at Walker’s Home (Jay’s rich and built an orphanage cause he’s nice like that) in Ninjago city, was on the street since young age, ex-thief, turned around at Walker’s though and now is head of the Ninjago city newspaper delivery (probably knows Nelson)

Plot Purpose: All the ninja seem to have a child that gives them advice at one point or another so here’s Jay’s, Jay has the rights to the Star Fairer enterprise (unknown to the other ninja) and when Lloyd mentions they should make new movies but can’t he goes about making it happen, he makes it all seem like he’s uninvolved but somehow gets them vip passes to see the movie in action (he says it’s from his ex-acting career connections), Tony is playing the younger version of Fritz’s son (our main character) in flashbacks, Jay is the one who got him his “gig”, he ends up revealing a lot of stuff Jay would rather keep hidden and probably almost dies doing something stupid and Jay has to save him

Random facts: Tabloid obviously isn’t his real last name (not sure wheather he chose it himself or people just started calling him that) it’s obviously related to his work, speaking of work he wants to become a journalist or reporter when he grows up, Jay gave him one of his smile buttons and he put it on his hat, I like to think in the future he gets adopted by Brody and Vinnie

Fievel Schmidt

Jay’s old friend, knew him before he transitioned, I mostly only use him in movie!verse BUT..., in show his mother is a mecahnic who buys parts from Ed and Edna, boyfriend ran off so she’s a single mom, the walkers always take a weekly trip into ninjago city to trade and sell so she’s a regular, Edna takes Jay and Fieval to the arcade and does grocery shopping, unfortunately his mom got seriously injured and can’t do mechanics anymore so they lose touch, plump and short, very sweet boy

Next Master of Sound

I feel like everyone forgot Jacob died in season 4 so here’s a reminder, he never had any children so it went to a random kid, little girl, Long black hair, she accidentally killed her parents when she caused their house in her small village to collapse from crying and activating her powers, selectively mute from fear of her own voice, Cole adopts her, becomes a next gen ninja I guess?, the only time she uses her power is when she sings (which Cole taught her to do)

*Witch doctor, Percy

Male, Lives in the Departed Realm, takes care of it sorta?, knows good magic, hangs out with whisps, helps the ninja (usually Cole) get home by telling them about a portal

Old Man

Grocery market clerk from ignacia, payed off hospital bills for Kai (14) after Nya (10) had an allergic reaction to perfume, Kai had work for him moving veggies and such for several months (got to keep some food though)

Snake Fam

Venomari lesbian who lives in the woods with her wife and 3 adopted kids (one is human), she (her kids) rescue one the ninja and bring them home to heal up so they can go save the others

Tagalong

Jay’s cat he had growing up...Not gonna talk about her right now [if you know, you know]

Villains

Felicia Blake

Scientist obsessed with trying to understand magic and elemental powers, thinks she can figure out how to channel elemental power like the First Spinjitzu Master did, very confident, only concerned with progress and no concern for individual life, ends up capturing Jay and experimenting on him :(

*Ali

Referenced in the Amulet of Ali which channels pure evil/dark magic, was the first sorcerer ever and basically made magic, was banished to the realm of madness and gained power there bringing back his learnings to ninjago, he wrote the book of spells which clouse and and garmadon studied under Chen (which is how garm knew the realm would give him power), Probably killed by Libber (previous EM of lightning) who sacrificed herself to stop him [but did she really kill him?!], Clouse gets the amulet from Borg Tower which boosts his power and now him and Jay have to duke it out like their previous versions did

???

Someone had to make Mr. E, I wonder who?, Jay took Echo back to Cliff’s flat to live after skybound and fixed him up, he might of done a few to many upgrades though and someone saw this as an opportunity, he was attacked while Jay was away and barely got away hiding in the secret room, unfortunately Jays blueprints were stolen (unknown to him) and the rest destroyed, Jay took Echo to the his parents but after seeing Mr. E he’s worried, now someone is throwing out new nindroids based on his designs and they are still searching for Echo, this mystery person plans to build an even stronger nindroid army to sell, prove they are a worthy inventor, and maybe take down the ninja along the way [do partially sentient multicolored nindroids based on the ninja count as ocs?]

sorry if im dumb but what is a keroro

“[sergeant] keroro” is the main titular character in the anime “keroro gunso” (also known as “sgt frog” in both the dub and the english translated manga!), and he looks like this:

the anime + manga’s plot basically boils down to like, keroro and his platoon (the “keroro platoon”, consisting of keroro and four other characters) being tasked with invading earth (”pekopon” / “pokopen”, as they call it).

the keroro platoon are a race of frog-like aliens known as “keronians”, from the planet “keron”. i have no idea how long this might get so i’m gonna put it under a readmore! i’m gonna try and be really simple w/ explanations etc.

this is what the entirety of the keroro platoon looks like, along with a moderately boiled-down summary of their roles/what they do/who they are. i’m usin this pic instead of an ordinary pic of them all just standing bc i love this pic lmao

sergeant keroro (keroro gunso) is the green one, and he’s the leader of the platoon. he’s far from a hero-like character, often putting himself in front of others, and is always swayed by greed and gundam models. regardless, he still cares deeply about his friends, and has some form of a “no man left behind” attitude (not all the time, but, sometimes). iirc he’s pretty egotistical and also a lover of comedy which is a big mood.

private second class tamama (tamama nitohei) is the black (/dark blue) one, and he’s the lowest-ranking member. he is young and naive, and is prone to making rash decisions based on his personal emotions. he has a strong love and adoration for keroro (legitimate, romantic love - icr if tamama is canonically gay or bi), and is also notably incredibly jealous of specific scenarios. he literally converts his jealousy into a weapon and can shoot lasers out of his mouth. i love him

corporal giroro (giroro gocho) is the red one, and he’s An Angery Man but also i love him. he specializes in guns and all that kinda shit and is really argumentative with keroro (because keroro just. lazes around and does nothing). he’s very war-driven and commonly makes war analogies. one of my fav things about giroro tbh is that he’s the embodiment of masculinity and All Things Manly(tm) but he’s also incredibly emotional, iirc he cries more than the rest of the platoon members (except maybe dororo), and is genuinely just a Good Character? I Love Him? 

he falls in love w/ a human tho and the human is like. a minor. which is kinda Nasty. a lot of us generally dont associate with/Despise the pairing of giroro + the human (natsumi) even tho the show can focus pretty heavily on it.

sergeant major kururu (kururu souchou) is the yellow one and he’s honestly such a fucking mess i love him so much he’s a big cc. he’s your typical creepy/perverted nerdy guy except he takes that concept and cranks it up to the extreme. iirc he has like little to no empathy for anybody, is generally disliked by the rest of the characters because he prides himself on being a twisted asshole, and happily uses other people for his own personal gain or torments them mentally just because he can/finds it enjoyable. he’s vital to the platoon since he’s the one who invents all the shit for their invasions. i love him so much hes such a fucking oddball compared to the others i love always looking for kururu in a scene because hes doing some stupid shit

lance corporal dororo (dororo heicho) is the blue one and is hands-down the best character in almost any piece of media ever conceived. he’s a highly skilled assassin but he’s also a complete sweetheart who’s like your Classic Hippie who just wants world peace and loves plants and nature and all that shit. every time there’s a reference to dororo doing gardening i cry because he’s such a pure and sweet character. he’s very commonly forgotten by almost every character in the show, and being mistreated by others (namely keroro) developed literal trauma within him (if that’s the right phrasing?). he’s very prone to emotional manipulation iirc and he’s just a very like. whenever he’s upset u just find urself begging for him to be ok

so these 5 have to like. invade the planet. they get split up when they arrive so the first few episodes are them getting the crew back together (iirc, keroro is of course in episode 1, tamama should be in episode 2, giroro is in episode 3 or 4, kururu is in episode 9 i think and dororo might be episode 14? this is all from memory so i apologise).

keroro is discovered (accidentally) and captured by the hinata family, which consists of fuyuki, natsumi, and aki (aki is the single mother and doesn’t show up often so i won’t talk about her).

natsumi hinata (left) is the older sibling, iirc she’s around 14 years old, and she’s one of my all-time FAVOURITE female characters in media. she’s physically strong and athletic, and is shown to be like .. i mean i don’t want to be like ~ooh she’s independent and all that~ but like holy shit is she so fuckn independent. she’s literally heralded as “earth’s last line of defense” because shes TOO good. shes so good. i love natsumi so much. she’s also very easily angered but that’s good and i love her

fuyuki hinata (right) is the younger sibling who i Think is around 12 years old. he’s SUPER big into the occult and all kinds of mysteries, paranormal or not. he obsesses over stuff like cryptids and is just A Huge Nerd. he’s physically like, awful, which is incredibly relatable like me too dude. he becomes rly good friends with keroro and sometimes there’s episodes revolving around them and their friendship and i always cry because it’s so genuinely emotional and touching and i love them so much they’re such good friends id die for their friendship

keroro gets captured and ends up living with fuyuki and natsumi in their basement. tamama lives at momoka’s house (a character i haven’t mentioned) but shows up in the hinata household a lot. giroro lives in a tent in the hinata’s back garden. kururu lives in his lab in the platoon’s secret base which is like, in a refrigerator, in keroro’s basement. dororo lives in a simple house with koyuki (a character i haven’t mentioned) and sometimes shows up in the hinata household.

episodes tend to follow the formula of like

keroro has a really shitty invasion plan for earth, they’re usually really awful like “we’re going to invade the planet by making sentient cabinets that detect where your feet are and force you to stub your toe”

kururu makes whatever it is keroro wants for his awful invasion plans but usually has some kind of drawback on said whatever he makes

giroro usually complains about keroro’s shitty ideas because they’re shit

tamama sometimes objects or questions keroro’s ideas but generally follows them and compliments him

dororo usually doesn’t show up, objects to keroro’s plans because they can harm people, or is just straight-up forgotten by the rest of the platoon

keroro fucks up somehow, usually because of his own cockiness or because someone like natsumi stopped him

keroro laments his failures but nobody is surprised by him failing

that’s rly loose but it’s like. the general gist though it’s presented in a way that never gets boring

there’s also episodes that focus around specific characters/character development/character backstories/just fun-filled filler episodes idk i love it

It’s been awhile since I’ve done one of these.  @sayonarashadow shared this after being tagged by someone.  I follow her on my main, so it came up on my timeline, and she encouraged anyone who wanted to to answer.  Some of these questions are the same as ones I’ve already done, but I don’t really care.

Nickname(s): Als (by my mom and my sister), Al or more occasionally A-L (by my roommate and some of his friends.  Some of the alumni from my school’s rugby team gave me a nickname when they brought me to a bar after one of our games early in the fall season (I had walked off on my own once we were done.  I had almost no experience of being on a team like that so I didn’t know I shouldn’t have done that.)  They called me it maybe once, but it was a bit silly anyway and didn’t really stick.

Zodiac sign: Gemini (cusp w/ Taurus.)  Means pretty much nothing to me though, and I never thought Gemini fit me very well.

Height: Last time I went to the doctor I was measured at 5′3″.  I was excited because usually I’m 5′2″.  :/

Ethnicity: USA (European heritage, from Germany/Switzerland/Norway or maybe Russia.  My ancestors have been in the US for varying amounts of time, but none are particularly recent

OTP: I am have never really been that into shipping.  Most of the fanfic I wrote when I was younger was not romantically focused at all, and when there was a subplot in there it was between two of my OCs.  One notable exception is the angsty House/Chase fanfic (from the show House, MD) I tried to write when I was 13.  Didn’t get very far.  Not sure if someone made a cutesy name for that pairing or not.

Dream trip: Getting on a plane to San Francisco and not moving away again.

Blogs created: This is the one I use the most, but it does no have the capabilities of a main blog because I created it a while after I made @somethingsifound to keep track of stuff I discovered while out and about.  Back in 2011 the first time I tried to go to college I had a tumblr for a while.  18-year-old me made me cringe less than I expected, but I still deactivated when I remembered about it a bit ago.  Before I jumped on the Tumblr bandwagon I had some Wordpress blogs.  The first one I made I was examining an issue I discussed on my first Tumblr too.  I just found it.  Never posted much on it but it wasn’t the worst thing ever.  I later made a Wordpress blog where I tried to write something short and poetic every day, but it devolved into me posting lists of the interesting random things I tried at the grocery store.  I think I also had a blog on Wordpress where I posted the entries from a journal I kept during a really rough week in my life around the same time I made the others on Wordpress, but I’m not positive.

Dating a Lesbian: The lesbian I was dating at the time pretty much wanted me to “forget” I also liked men and wanted me to be 100% into women all the time. It was unrealistic to say the least. Dating a Bisexual Woman: Pretty standard relationship was fun to talk about people we found attractive etc. Very experimental in the bedroom.

  I pretty much round up to being gay now, but I’ve dated several women in my time. by far the biggest difference was expectations for gender roles in the relationship. Pretty much all men I dated expected I carry the burden of the emotional work of the relationship and (If living with them) the house work. It is really not attractive when your boyfriend just expects you to be responsible for his laundry and remember birthdays/pick up cards/ make the shopping list/ tell him what chores to “help” with as if I turned into their secretary or mom. And the thing was they weren’t even conscious of it! With the women I have dated it has been far more equal with actual discussions about these things. I mean all couples argue about chores, but it’s nice when the default expectation that im responsible for it isn’t there.
