And ok, I could give you better personalized recs if you give me some idea of what you’re looking for or what you like, but I’m gonna give you some general recommendations. Also I only really feel comfortable recommending books that I have personally read, and there are tons more out there than what I have read. If you want to find more, looking at recent Hugo nominations over the past few years might be helpful. Also one of the reasons why I know anything at all about the SFF world is that I’ve been listening to the Sword and Laser podcast for like, a decade. I never really mention that podcast, but its literally why I started reading at all and also they have a pretty active goodreads group as well.

So recommendations:

Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie:

This is one of my favorite books period. This is a far future space opera about an artificial intelligence who used to be a spaceship and now is only one human body, and she is ANGRY ABOUT that. I don’t really want to say more than that, but if you like AI shenanigans and being sorta confused as to what is going on the entire time, then this is the book for you! It’s the first book in a completed trilogy.

The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan:

Obviously I’m gonna recommend the Wheel of Time. This is the first book in a 14 (actually 15) book series and if you need something to do with the next 1-5 years of your life *motions toward EoTW*.

So the Eye of the World, I think is uniquely good as a book if you kinda want to get into adult fantasy for a few reasons. For one thing, its kinda considered to be one of those “classics” of the genre but its not too old to be offputting to some readers. It’s a 30 year old book, so its not reflective of the genre now, but you can definitely see its influence all the place, even outside of just books. The Eye of the World specifically, also goes out of its way to make readers comfortable. It leans heavy on Tolkien references and tropes at first without being a straight up copy of Lord of the Rings like some classic fantasy books are. Its done very purposefully, in my opinion, to make the reader feel like they have some idea of what’s going on, and the series quickly drops the Tolkien references as soon as its established itself enough.

Also the Gandalf parallel for the series is a smol bi lady and there is 24 year old rage healer who wants to fight everyone with her own two fists.So many women to stan.

Leviathan Wakes by James S.A. Corey

This is the first book of the Expanse, which is a nearish future space opera that takes place in our solar system. Mars has long ago been colonized and is a completely separate government entity than Earth, and conflict between the two planets has been stirring. The Asteroid Belt has also been colonized and have long been little more than tools of corporations that run their colonies. A group of ice haulers working in the outer planets get in the middle of one of the biggest secrets in the solar system and find themselves in all kinds of trouble.

I don’t really want to say more than this, but this is probably the only SF series that I actively keep up on when a new book comes out. There are 8 books our currently, and the 9th and final book will be out sometime in the near future. There are also several short stories and novellas set in the world, and there’s a TV show that I really like though I need to catch up on it.

The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin

Hello, this book comes with content warnings for literally everything, but it is such a good book/trilogy. This is book about a woman trying to find her daughter again in the middle of the apocalypse. Definitely a heavy read but absolutely brilliant. The world has a magic system based on geology and the people that can use that magic....saying they’re discriminated against is an understatement. I don’t want to say much more about it, but if you have any kind of content you can’t read for whatever reason, I’d check before picking this up. This is the first book in a completed trilogy

Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel

So this isn’t really super SF heavy and is actually sold as a literary book, but it takes place after a flu pandemic has wiped out a large portion of the population...so maybe this is a bad time to read this book, OR its the best time to read it. Depends on how you’re dealing with *motions at the world*

The book flashes back to before and during the pandemic a lot, but is largely about art’s importance and is actually quite optimistic in its messaging, and this is another of my favorite books ever. But yeah, might be a bad time for you to read it of you can’t deal with the content now.

The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon

I just remembered that this book also has a plague, but its a subplot and not the major thing. So this is a big ol’ chonky standalone book that is high fantasy, deals with multiple cultures having to interact and work together, and has dragons. Also there’s a genunine slow burn f/f romance and *chef’s kiss*. I can’t really say much else, mostly because I struggle to explain this book, but its very good and probably my favorite book from last year.

The Calculating Stars by Mary Robinette Kowal

In this house we stan Mary Robinette Kowal, ok?

So this is a science fiction that is more an alternate history that poses the question, hey, what would have happened if an asteroid slammed into the east coast in 1952 and the world had to scramble to colonize Mars so that everyone didn’t die on earth when the climate got catastrophic, because that’s the inciting action of the book. The main character is a Jewish woman who was a WASP pilot in WW2 and is a computer for the space program when all this happens. The book deals with sexism, and racism, and xenophobia, and all the social issues that are gonna come up with it being set in 1952, but Mary Robinette doesn’t flinch away from addressing social issues in any of her books, even when it makes her main characters look bad. (Also if you like Pride and Prejudice, she has a series that is just Pride and Prejudice with magic and like, yeah, its good).

A Natural History of Dragons by Marie Brennan

This is a book which poses a question, what if dragons were like weird animals that were real and an eccentric woman spent her entire life traveling the world to study them and then told the stories of that in her memoirs when she was too old to care about the consequences of publishing all her scandals. That’s what the book is about. This one is probably actually the weakest in the series, just because it deals with so much set up. It’s a great series to get on audio because Kate Reading is a fantastic narrator, and the prose works so well as audio, because it’s just someone telling you her life story. There are five books in the series.

All Systems Red by Martha Wells

So this is a novella and is the first in the murderbot series. Basically a killer robot gets addicted to television shows and accidentally became sentient. I haven’t read the others in the series, but I really need to reread this one and get to the others.

Jade City by Fonda Lee

This is a fantasy set in world sorta inspired by the early 1900s but is in a fantasy world. It’s like a mafia movie and kung fu movie had a baby and it was this book. The sequel is out currently, but the third book is set to release next year.

An Unkindness of Ghosts by Rivers Solomon

This is another heavy read. This is a SF story set on a generation ship that has a society very heavily inspired by the antebellum south. There’s class issues, race issues, gender issues, mental health issues. All kinds of things intersecting here. Its fantastic, but a heavy read.

Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb

This is another fantasy classic, and is the first of the Farseer Trilogy. The title is sort of also a description of the book, so like. I’m not sure what else I can say. I haven’t read further into the series, but people I trust love it, and honestly I need to reread this and read more of the books.

Doomsday Book by Connie Willis

So if you think that Station Eleven might be a bad book to read at the time, then this is THE WORST POSSIBLE BOOK TO READ RIGHT NOW. Or, maybe the best. Depends on how you cope. This is a book about time travelers based in Oxford and the main character accidentally gets stranded in the past right as the Black Plague is about to hit. And it hits. The book is horrific. The second book in the series is much funnier. This one ain’t funny, but is good. Just, oof.

Mistborn or Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson

So if you want to get into the Cosmere, which is a series of series that interconnect and will ruin your life, then then my personal opinion is to either start with Mistborn or Warbreaker. People might not agree with me, but that’s my personal opinion.

Warbreaker is currently a standalone (a sequel will come out eventually but its not set up for a sequel so you can 100% read it as a standalone). The magic in this world is based on colors, and the story revolves around two sisters. One of them is betrothed to the horrific God King of their neighboring kingdom. The other sister ends up being sent in her place because their dad hates her. I adore Warbreaker so much. It has it all. Two women discovering their true places on the prep/goth spectrum. Talking swords. Vivenna. Everything you can need right there.

Mistborn is a trilogy that is very emo and will ruin you. Its about people who swallow metal to get magic powers and live in world where the dark lord won already, so they’re all emo. And that was the worst description of Mistborn I ever could have written, but I find it too funny to change.

So if you’re interested in the Cosmere, but are afraid to commit long term, pick up Warbreaker. If you want to get into a series right away, pick up Mistborn.

Hey, dear followers! I hope you're all doing okay. 😁 I just wanted to write down some thoughts after the amazing day that I had this Friday. Long story short, in October, I took 3 vacation days (all of them on Fridays), and the outcome seemed to become better and better with each passing week:

The first vacation Friday was an utter failure, cause the day before I'd apparently caught my dad's cold (managed to avoid this for 1 year and nearly 2 months since the last time I was sick in 2019), so my throat was really getting on my nerves. 🤧 It wasn't as sore as it usually is when I have a cold, but still it bothered me enough that I wasn't in the mood to do anything. The good thing was that I did get to have a vacation, cause I would've been even more grumpy if I had to work (and talk a lot during meetings).

The second vacation Friday, as most of you could probably make out from my last personal update, I spent on watching and crying over Avatar-themed AMVs on YouTube (totally worth it), as well as finally continuing my rewatch (fingers crossed I'll continue this cycle this weekend.. the rewatch, I mean). 🤞

But the third vacation Friday was absolutely SPECTACULAR!!! 🤩 I accomplished so many things within a day and got to travel and see so much after a while...

I needed to go to Tallinn to run some errands at my nest (i.e. rented home) and at work. So in the morning, I took the train (I saw so many animals and birds along the way: 4 roe deer, an eagle, some horses, tens and tens of sheep grazing in the woods, a squirrel climbing on a tree..) and used public transportation for the first time after this emergency situation started in March (it ended in May, but I avoided public transportation like fire up until now). I really missed riding in them (the train and trams), but once I did, it suddenly felt familiar and like a regular day, as if nothing bad had ever happened.. 😌

Except that I wore several masks to protect myself (and everyone else around me), so I wouldn't catch or unintentionally spread the virus (Estonia hasn't forced people to wear masks anywhere yet, only recommended it). 😷 I had 2 notable, and completely different reactions: the conductor lady on the train gave me a bit of a suspicious look when she came to check my ticket (like, why would a healthy young woman like me be wearing a mask?), but another lady on one of the trams grinned when she saw my adorable Paw Patrol-themed mask. (Btw, I hold no grudge against the conductor and laughed about it later. 😄)

Why was I being extra careful? Simple: it's because I had to visit the health centre at the campus where work is located (and later visit my office, too), to receive my flu vaccination for this year. 💉 The visit with the kind nurse went really well, I got to explore around the new location of and the rooms inside the health centre (they moved some time ago, but now I know what it looks like and what to expect, so I won't be too nervous when going to my health check next time in 2021, I believe). 🩺

Afterwards, I went to visit my colleagues at work and had such a wonderful time chatting with them face to face. 🥰 Like I told them: it truly felt as if I was coming home as soon as I walked in, and I loved that feeling very much and I look forward to the day when we can all feel safe enough to come to work again. Also, I had some neat and very practical little gifts to pick up.. 😏

Once I left work, I quickly went through a shopping spree in the nearby mall and bought a small toy I'd written down in my notes of things to keep an eye out for / buy asap: the 1/43 model of the WRC Toyota Yaris that Estonians Ott Tänak and Martin Järveoja drove with throughout 2019, when they first won the championship. 🏎️ Some time ago, I was searching the internet for a possibly bigger model, but I don't think there are any, so I decided it's a YOLO-type of situation and I knew I'd want at least one (1) model for myself before they completely ran out (there were like 3-4 left, in 2 different malls).

What made me feel even better was that the shopkeeper looked so happy when I walked in and asked to buy that specific item. 😊 Considering the price (60+ €) and the type of items they sell in that shop and the current pandemic situation, most people wouldn't walk into a store like that daily to buy such expensive stuff. I hope I helped boost their sales even by a little bit, and I sure made that nice lady's day.

Fast-forward to the evening when I was already back home, I couldn't contain myself, so I had to skim through "Katara and The Pirate's Silver". 🌊 But as I was following Katara's storyline, I ended up reading through the whole thing a bit later. And.. I.. LOVED IT!!! Will definitely write my review / notes down later, cause there were so many awesome things that stuck out.

All in all, I haven't had such an adventure-filled day in a long time, and as I said in the beginning, I had so many positive emotions throughout. The third vacation day was a complete success in so many ways. 🥲

so today i decided to sit down and answer a whole bunch of questions on discord!

this DOES contain spoilers up through the end of ch5, just a warning! if you’re on mobile i’m so sorry.

Who is your favorite character?

THAT IS THE MEANEST QUESTION YOU COULD EVER ASK DID YOU KNOW THIS. This varies a lot depending on the day but usually... tied Chiyo/Tatsumaru. I love them both so much. I think Ryouji's my favorite to write, though. If ASLH were someone else's story, I think my favorite would undeniably be Chiyo, because I'm nearly always biased towards protagonists.

What’s been the most enjoyable part of the story process? Why?

Honestly? Getting to see how people react to it. It's the validation luv. Maybe it's selfish, but I really do like seeing how people are affected by my work LOL.

For the trials of aslh, which trial has been your favorite so far? In terms of planning the case itself, plot beats, character developments, anything really. But which one still makes you lose it when you think about it.

That's a tough one, I don't like writing trials. I liked the structure of ch3, though. The way that the trial stops being "who killed Amal" and instead becomes "who is Aster". The Tatsu POV. The story title drop. And the way the execution just wrecks everything, immediately? Yeah, vibes.

I also feel like ch4's trial deserves a special mention because of how I wrote it while I was sick with the flu, and yet if you ask me that was still probably the most emotionally intense trial- wait I forgot ch2- and ch5- y'know what, forget it. At least it's on par!

If you could change anything about aslh on any level, what would it be & why?

In general, I think it needed more planning. I'm a very on-the-fly planner and writer, but there were a lot of unknowns I didn't consider until late-game that made it hard to bring up and resolve cleanly. It could also probably have used a little bit more clarity with regards to the lore - things like "how does the memory replacement work" weren't decided until super late in the project. I didn't have a backstory for Tatsu until I wrote ch2 or ch3, so before that point their scars were much less extensive and I think they were cut-shaped instead of burns? That was kind of important for at least continuity's sake, and it irks me.

Also, Hirono deserved better. I didn't plan out her arc as extensively as the others (she was, pre-story, the last survivor to be locked and she had traded with Kanemori), so she sort of stagnated in the story. Which wasn't a bad thing, because not everyone's going to get shoved off a balcony or watch their friend get shot, but it kind of sucks that the most "defining" moment she had was that Ririka and Iris died, neither of which she actually witnessed, or the name confession in ch4 trial which kind of got brushed over. Like all the rest of the survivors have Big Defining Moments, except her.

To be honest, ASLH is the first huge writing project I've ever completed, so there's a lot of things I could have done better. But it was also the first huge writing project I've ever completed, so I'm cutting myself some slack there.

What's your philosophy, or even your strategy when it comes to character design? What do you go for first or emphasize, where do you think you could experiment more?

Most of my designs are based around a core "ooh I want to try this thing". Sometimes I take character inspirations, sometimes it's a cool garment, sometimes I'm just redesigning characters. I mostly emphasize clothing, patterns, and colors, but I also reuse a lot of the same clothing styles and patterns. I could definitely experiment more with shape language and silhouette - usually, that's like the last thing I think about, but one of the more important things to have in an ensemble cast. Mostly, though, I just like drawing clothes.

What do you think is the crowning moment of aslh? Like if someone asked you what would be a moment that gets to the heart of the story the most. What would it be?

DEFINITELY the ch5 execution. Like, the emotional resonance? The narration shift? The drama of it all? Peak ASLHcore.

what factored most into your decision-making progress? why did you decide this death order and this mastermind(s)?

My decision making process is entirely me sitting in a fugue state mumbling out details that I need to fix and then sporadically sitting bolt upright and screaming a parallel or tangent I've pieced together.

The mastermind question is easier to put together - I'd always had in mind that this was going to be a revenge game, and that one mastermind was so difficult to take seriously it wasn't even funny and that the other decided to bail halfway through. So I built the characters around that. The points I usually pay attention to with fangan planning (these days) are: ch1 is to establish the status quo and tone of the story, ch3 is to overturn the status quo, and ch5 forces ch6 to happen. So the ch3 case revolved around Sen dying, and then I was like "how can I fuck up the status quo more" and killed Amal and Aster too.

The biggest factor in my decision making process is "what would be really cool". I tend to make a lot of decisions that fuck up the structure of what a fangan "should" be because I think it goes hard as hell when we throw out rules that the characters are unaware of anyway.

was there a draft of aslh that looks drastically different from what we ended up with?

Great question, and fuck you for reminding me!

ASLH actually started as a bullet point fangan called What Tempestuous Despair. It was a much more international cast until I was like "fangans are supposed to be mostly Japanese casts!" and changed a bunch of characters' nationalities, which in hindsight was dumb. Ririka, Kanemori, Tsukino, and Iris were victims of this. Also Amal was the protagonist and I am SO GLAD that didn't stick they are SO DIFFICULT to write the POV from.

I've spoken on a few occasions about how the cast itself changed, and I never got around to plotting out arcs (other than "Amal learns to trust people and allows themself to truly grieve Rin after holding everyone at length for so long"), but some assorted things:

The cast had a bunch of characters who were swapped out. Included in this tally are Rin Matsumoto (whose personality was recycled into Hisaichi, Ryouji's cousin, and their name was recycled into Shuichi's school friend), Leon Mercury Kahahawai (who’s in CYAH), Haywire Asturias, Puck Ganka (who’s also in CYAH), a few characters/designs who I ended up giving away... And also Hayato Kikuchi.

Iris was always a killer, because I really wanted her to have a downfall-that-wasn't-a-downfall-but-rather-a-reflection-of-the-true-self arc. This was always a lategame case so I'd have time to establish her as terrible. Originally, she killed Leon.

Tiana was also always a killer. I think he killed Hayato via electrocution, so as you can tell that's always been around in some form or another.

(Tristan killing Chiyo in ch5 in the current version, btw, was specifically to mirror Tiana's murder. While Tiana killed to get themself out of the KG, Tristan killed to get everyone else out.)

who was considered for mastermind throughout making aslh? what would their reasons have been?

The masterminds have never changed, except that the characters for them didn't exist back in WTD. But the personalities of the characters they replaced were about 1:1 anyway, so yeah basically they've never changed.

what is one thing you really loved about the beta and what is one thing you really hated about the beta

One thing I really loved about the beta was the ch3 case (which I've spoken about at length before), but other than that... honestly Tiana? Tiana's the one character that I had fully developed as of WTD, they just sprung into my head completely materialized. Their entire personality and design somehow stayed the same since conceptualization.

One thing I really hated? I would say "all of it", but specifically, we don't talk about white Tristan. That was so bad. I was trying so hard to design him so that he'd look nonthreatening and I was like "why is this so hard" and then I changed his ethnicity and I was like "oh right, white gamer boy characters just have cursed energies" and moved on with my life.

what would be an ideal day for tiana murdock. what would make them happy.

An ideal day is honestly one where they get a lot done. They're not one to relax or know what to do with free time, but they get a lot of satisfaction out of being productive, so if they manage to finish a lot of work and not end up exhausted? They're happy. They've probably gotta work on learning to enjoy their free time. They do like traveling, though, and- oh my god I should make them friends with Tsukino.

What would the cast's careers be if they lived to be adults?

Chiyo: Elementary school teacher and scifi author! Really wish I'd leaned more into the fact that she loves scifi, honestly. Amal: Journalist, probably, except they'd actually take classes in it this time instead of just writing op-eds constantly Tatsumaru: LIBRARIAN TATSU TRUE ENDING!!! Sentarou: Freelance pianist/composer. I have this whole headverse where he and Alexei are somehow friends with Claude, and together they plot to kill Enji Sekisada. Or Claude and Alexei plot to kill Enji and Sen sits there with his head in his hands. Iris: In universes where she's able to reconcile with academia, she works in ecology + chemistry. In universes where she doesn't, she's a florist. Aster: SERIOUSLY depends on the AU because every time I try to put Aster in a normal AU they're different. Jokes about becoming a flight attendant to travel with Tsukino. Claude: Secretary. No, seriously. May have something to do with killing Enji Sekisada. Hirono: Photojournalist! Photography reminds her of Ekuko. :') Alexei: Veterinary assistant for a specialized bird clinic Tsukino: Pilot, obviously Brendan: Mechanical engineer but sometime around age 30 has enough stress to just quit and become a college professor instead. Tiana: Museum docent, he's coworkers with Laurent Sinclair thanks Ryouji: He's... not sure. In normal AUs does take up food service for a while before getting uncomfortable with his family and quitting. In ASLH canon, he skips this step and goes into law with the intent of helping other killing game survivors sort out their lives. Tristan: Web designer, still makes a few games on the side with his friends. Mostly point and clicks because he ain't about this life Kanemori: Volleyball coach, because he knows a lot more about that than soccer honestly

what part of aslh was the hardest to write?

Deadly life. Always. I can crank the chapters out really fast, but I hate the case part of fangans and they're painful to plan.

For each case, what is your out of universe reason for wanting each person to die when? Like not counting the motives or anything, but why you wanted each person to die then?

- Brendan: He was the OC I had the longest. He had to die. Goodbye you little shit. - Kanemori: He was actually a survivor originally, and Hirono was the ch1 killer for the same "OC longevity" reason but then I realized I don't have anything for Kanemori to do. So... Sorry dude.

- Claude: Y'all ever notice how no one... EVER... puts plot relevant information in ch2s? Anyway. - Tiana: As discussed, they've always been a killer. Putting them as a killer here was a good balance - far enough from ch1 to build up their relationship with Tristan, but also not so far into the story that it conflicts with the general endgame fall-apart-ness.

- Amal, Sentarou, Aster: This case sprung into my head entirely materialized. Like, this was the one that BUILT the story, so it didn't change much. Mostly I just thought it'd be narratively fun to kill off the deuteragonist, the mastermind, AND the ??? in one go. I didn't plan for Chiyal to be a thing so when that became a thing this chapter got better/worse.

- Iris: I always wanted her to be a killer to really expose that "she's not a good person" stuff (she was more of a snake in WTD), but she didn't become a victim until when I was actually writing. She was supposed to have a trial and then I got sick of writing her. Whoops. - Ririka: I had arc ideas for everyone else, and it could have gone either way between Ryouji and Ririka getting that "close to my best friend who is now dead"... in the end it went down to gender balance in survivors. At the time it was Ryouji or Ririka + Kanemori + Tsukino + Tatsumaru, but then once Kanemori got swapped to Hirono just... yeahhh Ririka got stuck in ch4. Sorry. - Alexei: Special shoutout, he was supposed to die in ch4 as just an "oh no this is what happened, how sad" but then it was super narratively unsatisfying and now he's alive.

- Chiyo: For the sake of pain. But like, poignant, meaningful pain. I don't believe in making plot decisions just because they hurt, they've also got to mean something. Considering that a major theme of the story is "death before its time is a complete tragedy", and Chiyo's motifs include death... uh. Yeah... yeah. When it came time to ask myself who'd die in ch5 for this motive, well. I miss Chiyo. - Tristan: Meant to mirror Tiana's killing in ch2, as stated above, had the "selfish kill vs selfless kill" thing. Look if you're going to have a duo in a fangan and don't get to make cool dichotomy/theming what's the POINT. Ended up surviving because when there were only four survivors, there were... really no stakes for the ch6 trial.

- Tatsumaru: I just wanted them to be alive. I didn't know WHY, exactly... I just knew I needed them to live. So. I guess they're alive? Also I thought it'd be really interesting to have a killer protagonist, and a remorseful killer protagonist. - Ryouji: To be honest I didn't have a solid arc for him, aside from Ririka's death I'd decided I was going to figure it out as I went. And I guess I did? I love him. And not gonna lie, since Tatsu became the protagonist and Ryouji's still pissed at them, the perspective/dynamic became VERY INTERESTING. - Tsukino: Originally in beta!ASLH, her schtick was "gilded exterior with a heart of jerk with a hidden, smaller heart of gold" but that didn't transfer over to ASLH itself. Then when I realized "oh shit Tsukino wants to be a hero" it was all over. At first her arc was very "tone yourself down and stop rushing into things" which wasn't... ideal, I think you can still be enthusiastic and upbeat while being mindful and that was not how I had gone about it lol. Fun fact, Tsukino's survived every draft of ASLH, including the beta one - I think she and Amal were closer friends in that. - Hirono: See Kanemori, I just thought she had more survivor potential than him. The problem was that by the time I made the decision to swap them, everyone else was sort of locked by necessity, so Hirono became a survivor by default. What was the hardest decision to make, writing wise, for aslh? Like you wanted the story to go one way, but you couldn't force it, or a scene you felt you needed but was difficult to decide upon, anything like that?

Hm... okay see the thing is I'm generally pretty good at writing on the fly so if I make decisions I CAN force them to happen, so there's really not too much that comes to mind. Mostly this happens with trials - I make outlines for my trials and drag my cast along with it. Except they tend to go off-topic, and then I have to drag them back on topic. And sometimes the points don't make sense when you go out of order so I have to ad lib stuff. Ch4 trial was the most off-script one, it was supposed to be a lot slower and made more sense but then the cast just went out of order and I was bonking my head against the wall trying to get it to make sense.

The only real thing I had consistent difficulty with is locations. I did not fucking plan any of this shit and hate making maps so much- oh my god I need to do the ch6 map still.

My child with CIDP (a chronic neurologic illness)

Thank you for asking, @sunshinemeansmylove. I’m always happy to share our story -- it’s cathartic. And also, *I find it interesting, so I assume others do, too ;)

Almost ten years ago, when Phoenix had just turned 5, he started walking oddly. We didn’t think much of it for a day or two, because he didn’t complain of anything hurting. It got bad enough that one of his preschool teachers asked about it, so we took him in for x-rays and whatnot. But they found nothing. They put him in a boot for possible Kholer Disease, just in case (I don’t even know what that doctor was thinking), and with the boot, he essentially stopped walking altogether, and kept saying he didn’t want to go to preschool anymore: so I took him out.

Within a week he’d stopped playing as much. He appeared quite content just watching everyone else play. He’d only stand on sidewalks instead of going on the grass. (You need to know that he already had a long history of medical shit, because he didn’t walk until after 2, and didn’t talk until late, and was diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Delay and “symptoms relating to autism” and had had 3 years of intensive therapies and Early Intervention by this point. So I figured the grass thing was sensory, instead of balance.)

He started doing stairs on his bottom, instead of walking, and one day he fell down them. (We’d moved into a new house... with stairs... only 4 months earlier. Of course.) The next day, he was on the living room floor, playing with his matchbox cars, and couldn’t get up. That was the last time he stood for weeks.

All this time, he remained sweet-natured and amenable and never said that anything hurt. But now he couldn’t walk and couldn’t stand. We rushed him to the Children’s Hospital (which in Atlanta is very reputable, thankfuckinggod). They ran tests. Oh, god, they ran tests. He didn’t have reflexes at all, and couldn’t feel his hands and feet. This is hands-down the most terrifying period of my life, ever.

Finally, with a spinal tap and a horrifically invasive and ghastly and painful EMG test (wherein they jab a pin into your thigh muscle, poke another further down the leg and run an electrical current between the two to measure degree of blockage in the transmission). Phoenix had complete nerve conduction blockage (100% paralysis of his legs... it was moderately better in his arms and hands).

He cried and screamed and begged me and Daddy to help him while the doctor was doing this (it took something like half an hour). But they couldn’t give him pain killers or tranquilizers of just knock him out, b/c that would have messed with their results, so we had to hold him down. It’s the worst thing that’s ever happened to me, and to this day I won’t go to the hospital without a bottle of xanax in my purse, because the doctors can’t prescribe it for the parents, even though EVERYONE NEEDS IT, because you have to be calm for your kid. Fuck, I’m crying just thinking about it.

We brought him everywhere in a little red wagon, which CHOA uses instead of wheelchairs, all nestled up with blankets and his lambie.

(One utterly thoughtless fucker -- not his neurologist -- said if his nerves didn’t work and it was progressive, it’d eventually move up his arms and legs until it reached his heart and lungs and suppressed breathing and then he’d die. Which is factually true, but jesus christ.)

We thought he was going to die. Over less than 20 days he’d gone from normal(-ish) healthy kid to a lump in a hospital bed who couldn’t move his legs at all and couldn’t wrap his hands around anything, couldn’t hold you back when you held him.

CIDP in children is incredibly rare. It’s a super-rare condition regardless, but usually people get it as adults (average age 50). It’s something like .000005% of the population. Like, maybe there are 20 kids in the entirety of metro Atlanta who have it. CIDP is a neuropathy in which the person’s immune system begins attacking the insulating sheath (myelin) around nerve cells, starting at the peripheral nervous system (hands/feet, legs/arms). Without this fatty sheath, electrical signals from the brain simply don’t transmit to the muscles. In many cases, there’s intense, phantom pain associated with it, but thankfully, Phoenix has only ever been numb, and I pray with my whole atheist heart and soul that it never changes.

But we lucked out, and the neurologist we got at CHOA identified CIDP fairly quickly (within a week, during which we never left the hospital, of course) and started him on IVIg. IVIg is intravenous immunoglobulin -- essentially strained human plasma -- to remove all but the specific antibody Ig.

(SO PLEASE: GO DONATE OR SELL YOUR PLASMA, it’s keeping kids like mine out of wheelchairs. It costs more than gold, it cannot be synthesized or taken from animals. They don’t know the exact mechanism by which it works (they call it a “black box”) but it does, and it’s fucking miraculous.)

With sufficient IVIg, the myelin sheath is repaired fairly rapidly. At first, he needed infusions every three days. (Generally, specialists told me, kids his age will go into remission after a year or two. Phoenix, bless, is special and never has, even though I kept waiting and waiting. Almost ten years later, and he’s steady like clockwork, remission never on the horizon.) Over the years, we’ve managed to stretch the intervals to 15 weeks. Which is great, because insurance HATES US: the pharmacy cost alone is easily $100k+ a year, not to mention hospital stays and clinics. Annually, we have to defend his need to go at whatever interval it is at the time, they’re always pushing us to stretch it further.

So he’s been on maintenance for many years. There are some visual cues if he begins to decline, like his feet slapping when he walks, or using the bannister with two hands when he goes upstairs, but it’s not always that obvious. This week, I asked him if it was the CIDP when he tried to get out of band practice for the third time, and he said yes, but I don’t see those other cues (although he’s been laying on the sofa for a few weeks and has stopped hanging out with his friends and is sleeping longer) so I don’t know if I just handed him a really good excuse to stay home and play computer games.

He’s been low-key complaining for about a week, and our next IVIg appointment isn’t until Oct. 1st. You have to schedule months in advance so rescheduling for earlier isn’t possible, not to mention insurance will gleefully not pay if it’s earlier than 15 weeks (which means $9-$17k out of pocket, depending on the whimsy/voodoo of the hospital billing department).

So. Yeah. This is what it’s like to have a child with a chronic illness. (CIDP is Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy, btw. It’s essentially the lifelong version of Guillain-Barré, that thing you see warning signs about when you go get your flu shot. It can only be maintained, not cured.) This is a good example of why it’s so vital for laws to prevent insurance companies from turning people down due to preexisting conditions.

It’s hard, as a parent. He could be a typical teen who’d rather not spend all day in school... or his nervous system could very literally be slowly deteriorating. I have to make judgement calls all the time, and sometimes I’m wrong. It’s kind of terrifying.

Life Update part I actually managed to clean the house a bit be proud

Hey peeps!

Long time no life update!

Okay so I don’t fully remember what the last update was about so I may repeat some stuff ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

First and foremost,

The Rat Situation/Home Stuff

We still have rats, of course, because rats aren’t really a problem that go away on their own, no matter how uninhabitable you make their (and your own) environment.

Good news though, Burger King has absolutely stepped up his rat catching game tenfold.

In the past two weeks he’s caught at least 20 or so. Like, he’s seriously a beast.

I kind of think his improved hunting miigghhtt be because there’s a a smol little orange girl kitty who is wandering around here and he’s trying to impress her (or show her up)

She’s also helping us with the rats too, so kudos to her! I’ve named her Creamsicle and I plan on capturing her and taking her to a no-kill shelter ASAP, but she’s very shy rn so I’m currently building trust. In the interim she has a nice warm home under our house and plenty of food and water. ^__^

Even Better Good News I’ve been talking to extended family member after extended family member in a real life version of crowdsourcing and we can finally get an exterminator/humane trapper up in here!!!

It’ll still take a while because we need to clean but!!! Freedom is in our sights!! Rat freedom! ^___^ this is like a good ending to The Judge’s House.

Bad news just to keep you on your feet, out stove kind of exploded last night.

Well okay it didn’t really explode explode, but damn was it scary anyway.

It made an extremely loud sound and blew fire up from the one stove eye that was on and then the fire went out and it started hissing gas

We turned it off and then turned off the main gas line in total and well, this is what the gas lines leading up to the stove eyes look like:

Yea they’re all four broken like that. Idk how or why but they seem to be made out of aluminium? For what ever reason? And they’ve just broken in half. Yes this is a terrifying discovery :/

We are looking at some “new” stove options, there’s a lot of Renovations going on around our neighborhood and a lot of peeps who want to just get rid of their old stoves for cheap or even free

So we might be able to find something nice and affordable. ^_^

(Also we aren’t sure how long the gas lines to that stove have been leaking so I’ll keep you peeps updated on if our health improves any lol)

Or idk, lack there of.

So, big deal, I’ve finally and officially been diagnosed with Tachycardia!

Which is one of the many things I’ve been saying all along!

I have supraventrical Tachycardia, meaning the top part of my heart beats 3 times for every one time the bottom part beats. They are also looking to see if I also have POTS, which is very likely because it seems to be postural

I’m on Digoxin now and it’s been somewhat mildly improving my dizziness, so yay!

In even more exciting news, I finally finally finally have an appointment to see a bone/joint doctor.

So we can figure out why my joints dislocate like crazy. (Idk if it’s EDS or not but we will know soon I hope)

And hopefully this will help me get to a place where I can get medical treatment and maybe even recover some.

Meanwhile I might make a separate post about the idea of retroactive disability, which should absolutely be a thing that exists and goes along with my socialist ideals but I’ll make that later so shhhhh

Otherwise health stuff has been frustrating for me lately, both of my ears have severe inner ear infections and I think I have a mild flu, despite having gotten my flu shot for the year -_-

And of course I had my period twice this month (that’s also something I’m going to talk about in a different post bc it’s a little tmi) which means nearly 3 weeks of feeling like a hibernating bear and sleeping almost 24/7

Which btw is why I haven’t been on much

Okay so like I said in a previous post, I am absolutely making a poster for Markiplier’s charity livestream (December 1st, 10 am PST)

And I’m actually really excited about making it. I’ve been practising sketching peeps and practising the human form for a few months so I’m kind of ready to make it.

Plus it’s just nice to have something to work towards ^__^

Also, I think I might make a Minecraft playthrough.

So the short version of a long story here is that while I’ve played Minecraft for years I’ve never finished the game.

And that’s not for a lack of being able to, I could have done it at anytime... but I’ve never felt ready.

And now I think I’d love to record it, because why not?

The End Poem is actually really special and meaningful to me and I think I’d like to experience it for the first time first hand (I’ve read it before but like I said I’ve never gotten to it myself) with you peeps.

Idk if I want it to go up on YouTube or not but perhaps?

Anyway let me know if you want me to make a Single Person Vanilla Minecraft let’s play I guess?

And finally

Cleaning

So I enlisted some help in my extended family members and we went wild with cleaning my grandma’s house.

We stuck to the kitchen and living room but we had it nearly spotless by the time she woke up, her being none the wiser to what we were doing

And I mean, my left knee was completely dislocated the entire time, and my back and hips hurt like crazy now

But I am honestly really proud of myself for forcing myself to do it.

Okay well I think that’s all of the major life updates for the time being!

Dear Ellen,

I hope all is well with you!

I know you are busy but I wanted to take a moment to try and share my story with you - as I have said before on this blog, I know there are causes more worthy than mine but I think my story is important nonetheless because I’m sure there are many women other who have a similar story. So here I go...just to give you a quick idea of who I am, my name is Pia and I am a 28 year old German / American citizen who lives in a tiny German village on my own (well not completely, I do have a 10 year old rescue pug named Benny & a 19 year old rescue persian named Emerald Anastasia von Cuddlesworth - aka Aunna or Aunna Banana). I grew up a military brat and don’t really have a home town, I was born in Lebanon, TN but didn’t stay there long -- in fact, I’ve never lived anywhere longer than four years so I don’t really have a ‘home town’. My family and friends are spread out around the world, with my closest relatives being an hour and a half away and my parents being at least two flights away in Gallup, NM. I originally started this blog only as a fundraiser for a service dog to help me with my newly diagnosed auto immune disorder but as time has gone on I hope to have it serve a higher purpose as well; I want to raise awareness for a couple of things...

1. I want to help spread the word about the rare auto immune disorder that I was diagnosed with (more on that below) so that others who might be suffering with this disorder can get answers too. I also want to talk about life with an invisible disability / chronic pain or chronic illness. So many people suffer silently or face back lash when dealing with something that others can’t see. It’s time to end the stigma against invisible chronic illness / chronic pain. Just because you cannot see it doesn’t mean it isn’t there - we must all remember to be kind for “everyone we meet is fighting a hard battle”. 2. I am also a domestic abuse survivor and I want to let anyone else who is stuck in an abusive relationship (whether it is verbal abuse and manipulation, physical abuse, or both) know that no matter what life throws at you - you deserve to love yourself, to protect yourself and to fight for yourself... 3. I want to talk about Gender (and other) Bias in medicine because it is a VERY real issue that needs to be addressed! So here is a little more of my story... On June 5th 2020, after 2+ years of searching for an answer as to why I was sick and in pain all the time, I was finally diagnosed with a rare auto immune disorder called ANCA Vasculitis, or antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis. ANCA Vasculitis is the name of a group of autoimmune conditions characterized by the inflammation of the blood vessels caused by the immune system mistakenly attacking them. There are several types of ANCA vasculitis and the exact cause (genetic / environmental / etc) is unknown, so patients diagnosed with ANCA vasculitis may display varied symptoms. The disease affects about 1 in 50,000 people. Due to the generic symptoms many of us have (chronic pain, sore throat, cough, cold and flu like symptoms, headaches, etc.) this disorder is often over looked. Many people don’t receive a diagnosis until something major has happened (organ failure for example). This disorder can be deadly if left untreated and too many women (and men) have symptoms like the above brushed off...especially if they have a history of mental illness or are dealing with a lot of stress as I was;

I first started searching for answers to my growing health concerns in 2018. I had just moved from Germany to Scotland to start my life over - I was finally leaving my abusive spouse with the help of my amazing parents - I had my first “grown up” job with Hilton Corporate and was going to work and get my Masters Degree (I have a BA in Anthropology and was hoping to get my MSc in Animal Welfare Science, Ethics & Law at the University of Glasgow or at the University of Edinburgh). I was so excited to start over! So excited that I may have pushed the trauma and emotional scarring of my abusive marriage down for the first few months I was there and everything was peachy. Of course, those moments of bliss could not last forever. Still, I was settled in a new country (which BTW I had never even been to Glasgow prior to moving there) and I felt relatively safe for the first time in over a year - here my spouse could not find me or hurt me. I began seeing a therapist to help me unpack the trauma of my past. Of course, I was worried what people would think - as I’m sure you can imagine my spouse’s version of why we were getting a divorce was very different from mine so I tried to keep everything as quiet as possible. I didn’t want to deal with any backlash because, in his eyes, as always, everything was my fault. It wasn’t the fact that he had wanted to kill me at one point - nooo that certainly wasn’t why I was leaving (sarcasm) - In his eyes it was because I wanted an older man or because I just wasn’t willing to try to fix things...(even though I was the one who had suggested marriage counseling in the first place). It wasn’t the fact that he’d isolated me or cut me off from our finances. No, nothing was ever his fault... Even now, when I no longer have contact with him or his family I am afraid... This is the first time I have openly spoken about our marriage and divorce and as I have begun to tell my story I’m terrified that he’ll try to contact me or that I will receive backlash from him or his family (I am sure many of them would take his side and call me a liar...). I am speaking out now for two reasons - the first was because I only think it is fair and right to be completely honest about who I am and how I ended up where I am now if I’m going to be asking my family and friends for financial assistance and two because I want to help others who are or were victims of abuse. When I finally came out with my story a friend contacted me and told me she had been through the same type of situation with her spouse and it was a really lovely moment - we’d both been suffering in silence for fear of back lash but had now found each other. Anyway, back to the matter at hand... The first symptom I had was pain, chronic pain all over my body. My back, legs, arms, knees, ankles, feet, wrists, you name it - it hurt - and it kept getting worse and worse. I was having to take pain killers every day just to get to work and come home. I was extremely tired, no matter how many hours of sleep I got (6, 8, 10...) I was always tired. Then I started having headaches that would last for hours, then for days, then for weeks. I started to feel like I had a cold (on good days) or the flu (on bad days). My throat was sore, my voice was hoarse, I was congested and then I started having night sweats or trouble controlling my temperature (freezing even though the heat was on and the electric fire place was going). When I spoke to my doctors about my concerns it was written off as stress, depression, or anxiety. Whenever someone in the office I worked in got sick (you know how it goes around in an office environment) I would get sick too... my co workers would feel unwell for a few days, I would feel unwell for weeks. I then got strep throat but the doctors said I’d be fine with a few days rest. A few days went by and it turned into bacterial tonsillitis. I had to have multiple rounds of antibiotics. Then I had a stomach infection that lasted for over a month, a cough that lasted for months (November 2018 - March 2019). At one point I was coughing so hard I thought I would pass out. I coughed till I puked. I coughed till I pulled a muscle. My blood work kept showing elevated levels of inflammation / signs of an infection but since doctors didn’t know why they told me it was probably just fibromyalgia (something which shouldnt’ be diagnosed until all other possible causes have been ruled out). The rheumatologist in Scotland said there was no cure but I could do yoga, meditate, and maybe take an anti depressant... I felt like I was dying - I didn’t understand how I could feel so sick and no one seemed to take me seriously or care. A year and a half later (June 2019) I decided to move back to Germany - Brexit was looming and I just wasn’t happy in Glasgow anymore. Everyday was a struggle, my bus commute to and from work often took an hour and would leave me in so much pain I could barely get up off the couch at the end of the day. Plus work was not happy with all of the sick days I’d had to take. Keeping in mind that I felt sick everyday and I only took sick days when I had a high fever or wasn’t able to talk or walk. My parents lived in Germany at the time so I found a job where I could work at home in Germany and moved back in hopes of finding answers. A few months after moving back to Germany my parents sadly had to go to the US so I was once again alone in a new area. In November 2019 my cough returned and I was sick again with an unexplained “upper respiratory infection”. Once again I was put on multiple rounds of antibiotics which didn’t help - To make things worse I am allergic to almost all cough syrup and since I was working in a call center I was off work sick. The cough lasted till mid January this time and I lost my job. Work “understood” that I was going through a tough time and “felt horrible” for letting me go - they said I could reapply when I was “healthy”... and to top things off, my emotional support animal of 8 years, my baby girl Biene (a 11 year old Australian Cattle dog), my rock and constant companion, was then diagnosed with cancer and passed in December of 2019. I have to admit that these have been some of the hardest moments of my life... I have felt like such a failure and disappointment. I was an adult, I was supposed to be married and adopting kids (I’ve never wanted biological children due to my health issues), I was supposed to be getting my masters degree and leading a successful career, I wanted to travel and I wanted to be a source of positivity and happiness in the world... but instead I was broke, alone, grieving, depressed, anxious, and continuously sick... I have had to rely on my parents financially and have felt like a burden...I wanted to give up...but I kept fighting. Life gives us new reasons to keep living. I had a few great moments, I was blessed with a few opportunities for travel and have enjoyed those moments. I have great friends and family who continued to support me and who told me I was not a burden on their lives, so I kept fighting. I felt like my new German doctor wasn’t taking me seriously and once again was chalking everything up to stress and then later to grief (over losing my dog). So I found a new doctor a little further away and she listened to me - for the first time in a long time I felt like I had seen a doctor who actually cared. She helped me get in with a rheumatologist and she advocated for me. She agreed that my blood work constantly showing elevated levels of inflammation / infection - for over a 2 year period - along with me constantly feeling unwell wasn’t something to just be ignored but was an important symptom. While she had no idea what was wrong with me she was determined to help me find answers. In May I finally went and saw the rheumatologist - at first I thought all hope was lost, in our very first meeting she said to me “ I don’t think there is anything wrong with you”. She had barely looked at my paperwork and had barely listened to my symptoms. They sounded too generic for her...she didn’t think ti could be anything “rheumatic”... I was so young... It was probably stress... I’d heard it all before; but still she did her job, she ran the tests and a month later I was suddenly called back in for another appointment. My blood work showed what I had known all along - that I was sick - that I needed help and she admitted that she’d been wrong. It’s only been 12 days since I was finally diagnosed but its been a roller coaster of emotions for me - relief and validation - fear and anger and sadness... my life has so not gone to plan. I have struggled with depression and anxiety since I was 12 and the added stresses of the instances above, and the near constant pain (both emotional and physical) have not helped, but I refuse to give up. I’ll be completely honest with you, some days I don’t even know why - some days I only fight because I love my dog and cat and friends and family and cannot leave them. Other days I fight because I have dreams not yet realized. So, yeah, I started this blog because I hope to raise enough money to get a service dog (and this is still a major goal of mine) but I hope it will become something more. My friends and family have been so generous during this difficult time for all of us and have donated what they can. So far we have around 700.00 raised of the 10,000.00 euro goal. A Day Without Coffee

Ayyyyyy guess who’s back again!! So I decided to wait on the pt 2 on A Flight to Remember and write the other story I mentioned in the a/n in AFTR. So, once again, Tom Holland x Reader bc I’m extra. Also this is literally the longest, most paragraph-y thing I’ve ever written soooo… Btw written in a sort of first person and slang text so if certain things don’t sound descriptive enough it’s because I’m trying to mimic regular-type speaking.

Fandom: (As always) Marvel bc Spider-man

Ship: Tom Holland (Sleepy!Tom) x Reader

Setting: Atlanta/An interview room

Word Count: 1,848 (wow that’s a lot my bad)

Warnings: Probably none other than one “cuss” word and Tom acting like an idiot lol; also this isn’t really a warning but it’s a little wordy (hopefully y'all are into that)

Rating: K+ (Maybe? I never know how to rate these lol. Rlly only bc I say the one word at the end)

Background: Reader was cast in the Spider-man Hoco sequel and recalls a story about when Tom made a fool of himself in front of you while in an interview. Reader began dating Tom at the end of shooting the movie.

Aside from the blinding lights, fake enthusiasm, and repetitive questions, you quite liked the whole “interview process.” Since you were new to the Hollywood scene, no one really knew much about you, so fans and interviewers were continually learning new facts and interesting tidbits about you that most people didn’t know.

You were on your seemingly billionth interview for the upcoming Spider-man sequel you had surprisingly been cast in.

You had gone into the audition as a fan, thinking you were only there for the experience. You never knew that only a month later you’d be on set in Atlanta, Georgia, surrounded by well known celebrities (and all around hottie, Tom Holland) while living out your dream.

“So, y/n,” the interviewer’s words cut you back into reality.

“Do you have any crazy or funny stories from filming that you can share with us?”

You laughed and thought about the question for a moment.

“Are you asking about before or after Tom and I started dating, because that’s definitely a factor…”

You gave a fake chuckle and smile.

When you and Tom met, there was an instant friendship, along with the rest of the cast and crew. Though you had good off-screen chemistry with everyone on set, yours and Tom’s was different. Maybe it was the fact that you had walked in with the biggest crush on him, or just that fact that the two of you could play off each other and bounce off of one another’s jokes. Even Harrison joked occasionally about his jealousy towards your playful friendship.

It really was no surprise to anyone, aside from you, perhaps, that Tom asked you out during the last week of filming. In hindsight, you should’ve seen it coming, from his stolen glances during the three-and-something months of shooting to the way Harrison and Jacob (who both knew of Tom’s intentions prior to you being asked out) prodded at Tom in the week leading up to that special day.

“Well I feel like all we hear about anymore is the post-dating gossip. So how about something from before you two got together, huh?” the woman’s inquiry once again snapped you from your thoughts.

“Haha well there was this one time. We were about a month or so into shooting and, as some may already know, I carpooled with Tom and Harrison to work since I was staying so close to their rental house…”

Since the first week of filming, you had been driving from your place to theirs, where you ate breakfast with the two every morning at six-or earlier if one of you needed extra time in hair/makeup/wardrobe that day-before getting into the (incredibly nice) car Tom was leasing and making your way to the studio.

Tom didn’t quite trust you to drive.

“Y/n, I’m the older, and obviously more experienced, driver. It’s fine”

“Tom, you aren’t even from America. You literally drive on the wrong side of the road most of the time.”

“Well I’ve had to drive in this city every time I’ve been here. If I’m not more experienced in America, I’m at least more experienced in Atlanta.”

That’s where the argument had ended, because he did have a point.

Plus, his place was closer to the studio and big city traffic was never your favorite.

“… and one day I got a call from Tom at like, I don’t know, four thirty? And he goes ‘Oh my God, y/n, I’m so sorry but I completely forgot that I’m supposed to be in early today for a certain scene we’re doing today. I would’ve just gone alone and left Harrison to go with you but he’s still sick and the cold medicine you got him has left him with a bit of a hangover.’ So I get up and let him know I’m on my way, right?

“So it’s so early that I literally just forgo changing or anything like that because I’m in a rush and need to get to Tom’s place. I literally got in my car wearing this super old, way too big t-shirt and and then a pair of sweats I’d been sleeping in the past couple of days and just drove away. I totally forgot shoes and went in my socks.”

The interviewer interjects a “No way!” before you continue.

“I know right! So anyways, I rush over there, totally ignoring speed limit signs to get there, pull in the driveway, and just burst through the door from the garage into the house. Thankfully I had left a pair of slides at the house that I could just slip on before grabbing Tom. Harrison had come down with some flu or awful cold the day before and there was no way he could come with us, not that I’d let him of course. I mean, it was the works: he was coughing, could barely breathe, hardly able to function.

“Unfortunately that also meant that we didn’t have anyone to make breakfast, because I think anyone that follows Haz knows he’s a bit of a cook. Most days I’d come and he would have cooked bacon, gotten he and Tom eggs, and me a muffin, since that’s literally what I live on. While the two of them would sit down with a cup of coffee, I always drank a cup of, I know, I know, iced tea. I mean, to them it’s like, a cardinal sin, but I can’t get enough of the stuff.

“But anywho, I grab my shoes and toss Tom the keys while grabbing a couple of granola bars. Here’s where you see the mistake: Tom didn’t get to drink his coffee. Now, usually, this wouldn’t be a problem, I mean, there’s always coffee on set. Except for today.”

“Oh no!” the interviewer exclaims, trying to keep the story lively.

“We get to set and it turns out that the coffee maker, like, blew out or something and we were so close to being late that Tom was immediately sent to wardrobe and stuff, and of course the only way he can drink while he’s in the suit is by shoving a little tube in a hole they cut in the suit and letting him drink. Problem is, he can only have water since they don’t want him to mess up the suit.

“Fast forward to like, ten thirty that night. They never replaced the coffee maker and Tom was allowed to take off the mask once just to scarf down a quick lunch at midday. He was literally so exhausted and kept falling asleep everywhere. Thank God he wasn’t doing major stunts that day, because he probably would have hurt himself or worse.

“Anyways; ten thirty p.m. and they finally let Tom go, so he gets the suit peeled off of him and stumbles toward the bathroom in his robe, holding his clothes to change into. He was so tired that it took him almost ten minutes just to slip on his usual joggers and white t-shirt. I had to help him tie his tennis shoes! It was wild.

“I grabbed all of our stuff and Tom tried to reach for the keys and I was like ‘uh what are you doing?’ and he starts going on this whole ‘Well I’m not letting you drive my car’ thing. I mean, I had driven his car before. Of course, it was in a Walmart parking lot just to prove that I could drive it, but still. It counts. So I bring that up and assure him that, ‘yes, Tom, I know where I’m going and how to get there.’

“He finally stops fighting me and crawls into the passenger seat. I turn on the car and before we even left the parking lot he’s dead asleep. I hoped the fifteen minute drive would at least get him enough of a power nap to get himself in the house once we arrived, but I was so wrong. I had to make my way over to his door and basically drag him out of the seat and into the house. Thankfully Harrison was still awake, and visibly much better from that morning.

“Harrison asked me what was going on as he came up on the other side of Tom to get him to his room and I briefly explained the situation. We get Tom into his room and I pull his things from his pockets and plug in his phone while Harrison tugs off his tennis shoes. Harrison went into the hallway and left me with Tom, who was babbling like an idiot.

“He kept saying things like ‘Y/n, where are we?’ and ‘No I don’t need sleep’ and all, and so I just sort of awkwardly whispered ‘Tom, I think you should get some rest… I’ll see you in the morning… Uh.. Bye?’

“I started to walk away and he just grabs me out of no where and pulls me into a hug. It caught me off guard because he was laying down and I was standing, so I just sort of fell over him. He mumbled into my ear ‘Thank you so much, y/n’ and I quietly reply with a ‘Oh no problem. Happy to help’ type thing and he just keeps thanking me and suddenly he starts kissing my face. My cheeks, forehead. It was strange.

“I immediately stood up and quickly blurted out ‘UhgoodnightTomseeyoutomorrow’ and rushed out the door. Of course Harrison saw the whole thing and was laughing his butt off while I rushed out.”

The interviewer is laughing as well at this point and shaking her head.

“And the thing is, I come back the next morning, six o’clock as always, and Tom’s already on his third cup of coffee for the day. When I brought it up Harrison winked at me and Tom explains that ‘man I was just so tired yesterday I need it’ and then he goes ‘hey thanks for driving me last night, I don’t remember much of what happened after getting in the car. How did I even get to bed?’

“So I look up at Harrison and stumble through a shortened version of me driving his car home, without any problems you know, in the hopes that he’ll let me drive it more, and how Harrison and I carried him to bed. I totally omitted the parts after that and he never mentioned it again. Though he did let me drive the car a lot more after that…”

“Wait, he doesn’t even know about this?” the woman exclaims.

You shake your head with a grin.

“Nope. I guess I’ll have to send this interview to him when it releases! He’s gonna be so pissed. I can’t wait!”

You wave to the camera while chuckling.

“Love you, Tommy… Hope you still love me after this! You’re the best!”

“Well folks, it looks like we just got the inside scoop on y/n y/l/n and Tom Holland’s pre-dating relationship!” the interviewer began.

“And I’d say that if we learned anything today, it’s that Spider-man himself can’t live a day without coffee.”

Down the Rabbit hole level 1 part 5

But back to Rick and Morgan

The next scene that they share plays into part 4 and just how Beth’s cure arc will play out. We have Rick waking up in this house Morgan has taken him to, and it’s practically the same thing (take 2 of the hospital which is interesting because many don’t realize Rick woke up from being unconscious 2 separate times from 2 different incidents in episode 1, once in the hospital and once somewhere else (the house Morgan takes him too)

He opens his eyes from being unconscious and looks up at the ceiling not knowing where he is, just like Beth will have a take two awakening when she wakes from her gunshot wound as opposed to the first time she wakes in Grady.

Morgan has put Rick in a bed and tied him to it while tending to him, once Rick wakes the camera shows the very first instance of a baseball bat which Dwain is holding on guard, off to the side of Rick’s bed (Beth will wake in 5.10 and not long after Negan will appear, the bat is also on a loop, it appears with Jimmy and Beth S2, Beth and Daryl S4, Glenn and Rick S5 plus Negan obviously, I’m sure there are many other times too but these ones come to mind right now).

Morgan goes on and says “I changed your bandage it was pretty rank, what was it the wound?” Rick “gunshot” Morgan “what else? Anything?” Rick “gunshot isn’t enough?” Morgan “look I ask and you answer, its common courtesy right, did you get bit?” Rick “bit?” Morgan “Bit, chewed, scratched anything like that?” Rick “no I got shot, just shot as far as I know” Morgan then goes to touch Rick on the forehead and Rick pulls away not sure what he is doing, Morgan asks him to just let him touch his forehead, he does and turns to Dwain and says “feels cool enough, the fever would have killed you by now” Rick “I don’t think I have one” Morgan “it would be hard to miss” Morgan then proceeds to cut the ties he has put on Rick.

Let’s stop and look at what is unseen here as opposed to what is seen like Father G said in 509. We know that Rick just got shot and hit in the head by Dwain with a shovel (that’s what causes him to pass out the second time), but reading between the lines here, they have set Beth up to get bit and shot (but don’t worry we know it doesn’t kill her because these events happen prior (outside the funeral home) to her getting shot in Grady, if you go back through every season you will find episodes and loops that tell Beth’s missing story just with other characters you just have to link it all together.

To help explain this I’m going to jump to S2E01 for a bit

In S2E01 the group have just given up on the CDC AKA Grady and are headed to Fort Benning (aka a loop of Noah’s family in Richmond after Grady, which doesn’t work out).They are on the same HWY 18

Part way there the HWY is blocked with cars and they slow down and start weaving through the cars, its then the RV breaks down (note that here Andrea and Dale AKA Beth and Daryl are traveling in the RV and this is just after they leave CDC/Grady so what happens to both Sofia and Andrea (Sofia being one of the main zombie girl representations and Andrea a smaller loop of her too) in this episode will fill in lots of blanks about Beth’s missing story, the RV breaks down on the HWY the same one we saw in season 7 also, when Rick and Michonne close line the herd in the car's.

It just so happens THAT spoiling sight has just posted pictures of listed S8 potential filming locations that have do not mow signs up and this same hwy is going to be filmed at very shortly, they also have pictures of a gas station that will be filmed at which is very similar to the first scene we went through with the little zombie girl, and Carl and Rick were spotted filming there.

Things that make me go bahhhhhh hahahahahahahaha because we all know how they have treated Beth fans and TD and they are going to get a major law of averages loop around to bite them in the rear very soon.

Back to the HWY in S2E01

Keep in mind the RV has the numbers 9866 on it (future seasons after S2 the RV’s will be in) and it has a big W on the side (level 2 if the rabbit hole)

So the radiator hose breaks and the group is in need of water, they stop and start looking around, Lori says this is a grave yard Just as Rick looks at Andrea. (Who is another smaller loop of the Zombie Girl)

Andrea never goes far from the RV while everyone else except Dale, and Glenn stay to fix the RV, Dale has 2 screwdrivers one red and one yellow screwdriver, he gives the yellow one (life) to Glenn and asks him to fix the broken radiator hose he also gives him the same bandana that is on a loop of its own, last time we saw the bandana it was on the bad guy that shot Rick S1, he was killed so the bandana season one was in a death cycle now it’s helping Glenn learn how to fix the RV (burial) Season 3 Daryl uses it to cover his mouth to stop him from getting the flu(life), just so you can see even items are on this loop.

The screwdrivers are very important too and we will come back to them as they will come into play again possibly with Beth being left in a vehicle and helping her survive a walker attack.

So Daryl is looking for petrol with T-Dog and then walks off, the next scene shows Carol looking in the boot of a car, she has picks up a red top and is looking at it fondly, Daryl then walks past in the background, this scene is literally the same as when Beth picks up her Yellow polo in the golf club

Her and Carol are like Mother Daughter equal opposites here (which is interesting as Sofia was her daughter and Beth is a loop of Sofia), go watch the way Carol looks at the top and listen to the music, it’s the same scene different character, different place, different loop with Daryl walking past. The difference... Carol has the Red (Death top, but Carol doesn’t put it on so it’s not about her dying. But she is not the representation of the number 4 gas pump with the yellow gas can, or the 3rd Sherriff, note Carol and Beth loop in so many different scenes there are many instances where they do the same things, they have used Carol as a ghost representation of Beth while she has been gone to give us clues) But it's Beth that is the 3rd representation of the Zombie Girl and also the 3rd sheriff (both her getting bit and putting on the sheriff's hat happened in S4 and she will be the 1st one to survive a walker bite, completing the car numbers. So she gets the yellow (life/gas can and top)

Next scene Andrea is holding her stomach and seems like she is not feeling well she goes back into the RV while Dale is on top keeping watch.

Next scene Shane finds a truck with water (just like when Rick found water in the hospital and when it rains in 510 and some of the group are happy while those devastated by loss are not, Maggie, Daryl and Sasha) well in this scene Glenn and Shane are happy: Shane even says while letting water fall on him “it’s like being baptized man” while Dale (Daryl) looks on without a smile.

Dale looks at Shane with this same expression and then turns away

(at this point Beth will be unconscious and in the broken down “RV” as Andrea is the only one inside at this point, it won’t be an actual RV that Beth is put in as the S5 number is not included on the RV numbers and that is when this all took place for Beth, but whatever vehicle they get after Grady, my guess is it will be blue for burial).

Its then the walker herd start arriving Rick and Dale notice them first and get everyone under cars, everyone is told about and aware of the walkers except Andrea (who as Beth will be in the broken down vehicle after they leave Grady) on her own while everyone else leaves and hides elsewhere to get away from the walkers. Dale (Daryl) is the one that stays closets (on the roof of the RV) to her but still doesn’t bother to tell her through the roof skylight of the RV that there are walkers and the only reason they did this when Dale could have easily spoken to Andrea though the skylight was because as Beth she will still be unconscious and Daryl will still think she’s dead.

Andrea finally notices the herd walking past and gets on the floor of the RV but the door to the RV is open and a walker starts to come in, she crawls into the bathroom and closes the door, she is also wearing blue in this scene (burial), she takes her gun but it is in pieces as she was cleaning it and hadn’t put it back together yet. The walker comes to the folding door of the bathroom and she drops a piece of the gun and it makes a noise on the floor alerting the walker she is in there, it starts pushing on the door and Andrea is trapped without any weapon, Dale who is still on the roof of the RV hears her struggling to keep the walker out and (finally) looks down the skylight he pulls out the red screwdriver from his pocket and throws it to her through the skylight

She kills the walker with it but it takes a few goes, the way she attacks the walker is a loop of how Beth kills the walker with the wine bottle in Still.

And

The next scene tells us a few more interesting things about what will happen to Beth.

T-Dog gets his right arm cut open really bad,

(Which BTW is a loop of Amy S1 who got bit in a similar spot to where Beth’s bandage was but on the opposite side so for Amy and also Tyrese the left arm injury = Death. But Beth and T-dog right arm injury =Life.

(Amy also got given a mermaid necklace for her birthday by Andrea, the sad part is she died on her birthday and Andrea never got to give it to her, but placed it on her dead body, knowing the loops I'm thinking that Maggie will do something similar for Beth, Amy and her bite are a big clue as to Beth’s bite add to that the mermaid/beach symbolism linking to an Oceanside representation reunion loop)

Back to T-Dog and Daryl

A walker is coming up to T-Dog, and Daryl comes to the rescue. Guess what Daryl kills it with? A screwdriver!

It’s very possible that a screwdriver the group (possibly Daryl) will be using to try and fix the broken down vehicle, most likely a red screwdriver (death) that won’t be successful in fixing the vehicle that they leave Beth in, this screwdriver will be left in the car with Beth and she will use it to kill a walker that comes at her just like Andrea.

That’s the only thing she will have as they took her knife.

The next scene shows that Daryl hides under dead walkers as the herd passes.

Part six will switch to Sofia and how her story will tell Beth's missing Story. Thanks for reading team defiance I will be back with part 6 soon.

Rarely shirtless update (1)

So, it has been one month to the day sense me and my whole crew decided to stop accepting how we looked and felt. The pictures above were taken exactly one month apart from each other and to be honest the difference is way more than I expected. Last time I made this change I did it alone and I never took pictures but this time is so much better with my family doing it with me and us keeping track of the progress. Now, you might be like “Tim! What kind of sorcerer’s magic did you use to make this happen?” to that I would say “With 4 easy payments of $99.99 I will let you in on this secret!” Just kidding. It is not a secret and it is no gimmick and financially you will actually save money because this requires no pills, plans, or shakes. All it takes is changing what you eat. We all know the saying “The way to truly lose weight and keep it off is to eat right and exercise.” and so far all of that progress has only taken eating right.

My wife and I spend about $100 a week on groceries and we feed 3 adults and our 3 year old while doing this change of lifestyle (thank God for ALDI). Before, we were spending around $100 a week on groceries plus about $300 a month eating out. Yeah. Add those numbers up. Things were not working out very well. We both felt like crap and didn’t look that far off from it either. I truly believe we were sick. Not like flu sick but financially, mentally and physically sick. This was taking a huge toll on us and our marriage. So, a month ago I decided to man up and take control of my families well being physically and financially. To my surprise, when I was able to step back I saw that we ate bad because we felt bad and we felt bad because we ate bad. It was insanity! but it is what a lot of people have fallen into.

I know it has only been a month but the results are unbelievable for us. For me personally I can breath when I bend over to tie my shoes in the morning and I can carry my child up the stairs and not sound like darth vader as I do it. Also, my wife pointed out that my “chicken skin” on the back of my arms has almost completely gone away. I mean thats crazy! I just thought it was a part of my body but it obviously was brought on by my diet. It makes you think. What else are we accepting as the “norm” that is really NOT the “norm”. Now, I am not a doctor at all so I am not going to tell you to do this but… you should try it. It has been a month and it is changing our lives. Just think what it might do for you.

Ok. So, I just realized I haven’t even told you what we’re are doing. So, here ya go! We cut out breads, corn (No corn syrup of any kind. BTW that stuff is in everything. Scary.), starches, and a majority of dairy (Still like the milk in da coffee sometimes). Thats it. You might be like…”Dude, so what do you eat?” to that I would say “A TON!” Now my family is blessed to have my wife who is an awesome cook so she makes it all so much easier and tastier. If it were just me I would eat beans out of a can and beef jerky all of the time but she makes it fun and scruditalyumpsous (I have no idea how to spell that). The last meal I ate right before taking that picture above was huge salad cover in tomatoes, cucumbers, bacon bits, walnuts and tons of ranch and chicken salad that would make you wanna slap your mama! Sorry. The southerner came out of me for a second. But yeah, I said ranch. You can make it yourself with coconut milk, mayo and ranch seasoning packs and use it on whatever you want. And yes I said mayo too! But remember READ THE LABELS! It will surprise you what is in the food you buy.

I feel like we lie to ourselves a lot. We have been told “Just love yourself for who you are!” and while that is a true statement to an extent, that might just make things worse for you. Since when should we accept our “bodies” when they are showing us that we are killing ourselves with how we are eating. Would you tell a drug addict “Hey just love yourself for who you are and you will be ok.” No! You would tell them that they need help. It is almost common sense. So, why aren’t we saying that to ourselves? You shouldn’t accept it and neither should the people around you. They should love you enough to want to help you and possibly help themselves live a healthier life. I wanted to end this with one thought. If you went to the doctor tomorrow do think that they would say “Yes, you are obese but just learn to love yourself and accept it and you will be fine.”

My bf was in an accident recently where he was rear ended at a stop light. The other driver was ticketed and no one is contesting the fact that the other driver is at fault.
