I cannot believe they marketed the Scott Pilgrim Takes Off animated series as a true-to-the-graphic novels adaptation with Bryan Lee O’Malley and the original movie cast (thus luring in both the movie fans and the graphic novel purists), set the first episode up to appear exactly like that’s what they were doing, and then at the last minute they went SIKE this is not the story you think it is. so, watched ep 1 of the atla live action and uhm, imagine not wanting one of your main characters to depict sexism because you believe it doesn’t read well in Current Times, so instead you double down on the character’s obsession towards leadership in order to give him that extra edge. but in order to make that work u have to make his sister quietly obedient instead of an outspoken leading presence that has the potential to overshadow him. because silencing a female character in order to write out a male character’s story arc of unlearning sexism is obviously a better and less sexist outcome.

But!! if I had to give an example, I've always imagined Eve (from Nier) to be very similar to Ren's talking voice!! It's soft, timid, and has that curious lilt to it — but also has dat [REDACTED] edge as well >:3
