- “Ay.. finally somebody who’s on my level!” he calls after you. Promising he’ll outrank you next round. His competitive nature demands it. He’s trying so hard to ignore his boner right now. Assuming it to be just from adrenaline.

You’re his type AND you’re blood thirsty. He can’t help but feel slightly intrigued. The sparks of what would eventually be a crush once he starts talking to you more.

- He can’t bring himself to think filthy thoughts of someone he just met, he wasn’t raised like that. Occasionally the thought crosses his mind and he becomes a little angry with himself. Please stop being sexy in front of somebody who was raised in the bible belt. PLEASE! he would beg you if it didn’t sound so weird out of context.

- air blasts a poor demoman off a cliff you were fighting. “Hey. It’s alright. I got this.” You tell them. Pyro just tilts their head. You walk on to cap the cart and Pyro follows closely behind you. “What’s up?” You finally ask him, out of curiosity. Pyro just stares. You begin to recall horror stories that the other mercs told you of Pyro.

- They continue following you around as your own personal bodyguard. Engineer tells you that he does the same to him on occasion. To the extent of protecting his sentries. Apparently Pyro just follows people around like a dog because they have no idea how to communicate their interest.

- Watches you a day before a match doing target practice atop a bridge. The targets in question are in the ravine below. The way you so effortlessly hit each target, only missing a few — for some reason caught his attention. He lowered his scope from his eye and preferred the entertainment of you for a moment.

- You get angry after only missing two. Taking your long range and throwing it aggressively into the ravine. Sniper has no clue why you did this, considering you’re the first person in a while who hasn’t fucked up this course right off the bat. For some reason your aggression is getting him hot and bothered. Is this just a weird preference or a sexual thing? Holy shit, he has no idea.

- Sniper brings his legs together to hide his wood. “Eyes both open with a gun like that, mate. Instinctive to close an eye but I guarantee you, if ya just focus on nothing but the target then boom.” He says. Wondering if maybe he was just overthinking and his penis was being insane.

okay so similar to how hades kids are either death-oriented (nico) or riches oriented (hazel), i feel like persephone's kids can lean more towards either her goddess of springtime title or her queen of the underworld title

however, they all still have plant girl energy/powers?? if that makes sense (saying plant girl as a neutral term here btw idk how else to describe it LOL) since queen of the underworld isn't a title she got until she married hades!! its just more prominent in some than others

i feel like they're def prone to seasonal depression 😣 most will get it during the colder months because thats when persephone goes back to the underworld, but there can be outliers ofc! this is a very random comparison but i like to think of them like seasonal fruits... there's a season where they thrive and a season when they don't!!

in general, they've all got a bit of an edge to them. not all of them are aware of this. you can always tell the children of persephone and demeter apart because of it though

big dark humour enthusiasts, the type to show their love via light punches and teasing 🤔 they are also emotionally intuitive so they'll def know when they've crossed the line with this

however they're SO sweet once you get to know them. like how a pomegranate has a rough, hard to open outside and very sweet fruit on the outside <3 they're like the "looks like they could kill you, is a cinnamon roll" audio LOL

speaking of curiosity, that's one of the most common fatal flaws for children of persephone, just like how persephone got stuck in the underworld by letting curiosity get the better of her and having some of the pomegranate (this will be really embarrassing if im remembering the myth wrong LOL however i do think there are versions of the myths where persephone goes to the underworld initially on her own so my point still stands)

i like to think they're immune to most poisons/poisons don't affect them as much. dont have much of a reasoning for this though its just a vibe

they also like to explore plants with healing abilities and have their own little healing poisons and potions. not a lot of people know of this though, they're pretty secretive

also they're the type of person where you'll be friends with them for YEARS and then discover some major part of their life you had no clue about. they don't say anything unless they deem it necessary 😭

they of course have chlorokinesis (power to control plants) & that power is strongest during the spring since thats persephone prime time

a few of the more "queen of the underworld"-oriented ones can shadow travel naturally, however their shadow travel is nowhere near as powerful as the shadow travel of a hades kid (they can get to their level if they hone this ability!!) those who dont have the ability naturally can learn, but it takes a lot of effort and practice

they tend to be quite moody/their mood changes pretty quickly too. this is another common fatal flaw & imo because of persephone's sort of polar opposite roles LOL 😭 this mood tends to affect nearby plants, either making them bloom or killing them

the ability above bothers most of them. they feel horrible for having the ability to give and take life so easily, without a thought, simply depending on how they're feeling. it takes a lot of inner work for them to control their emotions so it doesn't affect the environment around them so much (thinking of the aunt from encanto here and how quickly she changes the weather) & also accept that they aren't bad people for this!!

they get along best with the demeter and hades cabins for obvious reasons LMAO i also imagine they're pretty close with their mom! idt that cabin is as full as apollo but not as empty as a big three cabin yk, enough of them for her to be able to keep up with all of them

they can sense when people/plants are dead or dying like hades kids, but the ability isn't as pinpoint-y as a hades kid's, its more like a horrible feeling in their gut they can't shake when they're in the radius of something/someone thats dying

i feel like animals really like them, regardless of whether they're more underworld-y or plant-y. this is another one i can't really explain LOL

some of them are overthinkers/worriers/tend to be rly paranoid (generational trauma? from the kidnapping of their mom). they always have their guard up!! do not sneak up on them LMAO

i have diagnosed OCD, and like, roughly since the end of last year and the beginning of this one, the 'obsession' part of OCD that was negatively affecting me, was the concept of time. how fleeting it was. how it's basically unescapable ALL THINGS MUST PASS (get out of my head george harrison) that shit proper cold dead SCARED ME MAN. sleepless & haunting me in my dreams type shi. sometimes it still does. i try not to think about it too much

to cope, i found great comfort in the 70s-80s since at the time i was and still am hyperfixated on david bowie and that was sort of his prime (love his 90s-00s work tho.) i was also starting to think of how much parallels and similar experiences i have to previous generations and how it's not ALL that bad after all so far. i can still walk to a record store and roller skate if i really wanted to, or go to a diner.

okey here's where the life changing stuff happens. i decided i'd listen to pink floyd's the dark side of the moon. then TIME CAME ON. ohhhh god oh gosh golly god i was bawling and everything the whole song spoke to me on a molecular level. then i found out about DB's song also called time, and i ALSO crode to that. i was like. wow. i'm not alone on this feeling of utter desperation and helplessness as eventually all things Must Pass. i used to be bitchy on how i whined i was part of the 'wrong generation.' i thought i was alone, but virtually everyone of almost every era has thought this. somebody who lived my dream life wished they had what i have now.

AND IT'S BASICALLY THE 80s. the way your parents or any other gen Xer saw the world with their *eyes* (not counting the changes in buildings and stuff) is the same as you today pretty much.

i already really enjoy subcultures, and particularly how they evolve and adapt. the indomitable human spirit prevails no matter how gentrified or 'banned' things become. nowadays i feel like there is No Youth Subcultures. at least, none that will pass the test of time and be memorable enough to be remembered in the books. nobody's gonna go to their child and proudly say: "when i was your age, i was a chav" or something. and i credit this to the lack of creativity allowed in the wider music industry.

HEAR ME OUT this is because 90% of youth subcultures had everything to do with music. and now, everything must be palatable. to be clear there's nothing inherently wrong with that type of music, but to me it speaks no soul. it has no risks. contemporary pop music is very much formulaic and this is because now more than ever entertainment (this also applies to movies btw) is more of an investment than passion. I WILL SPECIFY.

music production is so vastly different genre to genre, and we're not letting it flourish because of how much short form content is valued nowadays. LET ME COOK.

tiktoks are formulaic. algorithms are formulaic. WE'RE GETTING SOMEWHERE. there must be an instant hook or rift in music if you want to 'go viral' as a musician. digitized fame doesn't mean SHIT (to me), since clearly monthly listeners don't equate real world fans. album sales are being replaced with streams, and because of how ASS spotify treats its artists, newer, less established acts need to GET ON THE GRIND INSTANTLY to earn Coin. that means that to be smart and work with the exploitative system they're given, they have to make albums filled with 1 minute 30 second songs. so you can technically give them the most amount of streams possible. i feel with this formulaic approach, you can't get 6 minute long gutwrenching guitar pieces. no more 4 minute drum solos, hell avant garde experimental works were 2 people shout their names out at each other for 20 minutes. THERE ARE NO MORE FRANK ZAPPAS.

Okay time to rip this crossover trailer to shreds. First the Grimm are no threat to the Justice League.

You cannot convince me that Superman will have any difficulty dealing with a Grim army. Add in Wonder Woman, Flash, and Jessica Cruz and it is basically over. Grimm arent even on Parademon level and those things are Apokolips cannon fodder that Batman can beat with ease. I know they see the Grimm are evolving to their weaknesses, but Kryptonite only works on Superman?

Wonder Woman is almost as strong as him and has almost no weaknesses, besides in her early days when you could beat her by tying up her hands but I dont think these grimm can consider that a great deal of strength. In Batman's contingenies for the JL, he needs to give Wonder Woman a "Phantom Opponent" aka fake construct of some sort like a hologram or a simulation to keep her locked in battle. No way any of these Grimm are doing that.

And as for Flash? Again, no Weaknesses besides plot stopping him! Unless those Grimm tap into the speed force no Grimm should be able to touch him.

I didnt see any yellow Grimm either so unless these things can somehow make Jess lose her will power they stand no chance. She has taken on way stronger armies, these glorified hell hounds dont stand a chance

I didnt mention them above so I'll speed run them cuz I still think the Grimm stand no chance. Cyborgs tech is way too immense and can adapt and upgrade constantly, so if the Grimm evolve so can he. Vixen and Black Canary are meta humans and can easily take on the Grimm cannon fodder, both hero's are around building level and are amazing at hand to hand combat. They've fought the Legion of Doom, the forces of Apokolips, Gods new and old, whole Lantern Corps, demons and monsters, Meta Humans out the ass, and so much more. Hellhounds that can replicate their powers and weaknesses should be a cake walk. But somehow they're gonna nerf the hero's and make team RWBY the greatest hero's of all time! They're gonna save the Justice Leauge and the earth! They did everyone now clap! Clap and forget how those incompetent idiots doomed their own world!

I hate this. I hope this is the last RWBY project released. Another au that proved surprisingly fun for my own ocs at least was a soul eater au lol, which def has some tlt au potential I think. It's really fun to really lean into the cartoony anime designs and in book 2 we already got harrow dragging around a sword representing gideon, soul eater also plays with the whole combining 2 ppl thing to an extent(crona n black blood, and asura having consumed his weapon)

i do like the vibes of medieval aus but unfortunately these & soul eater fall into the same problem in that i dont know enough about them: the most i know about medievals is that sort of fantasy setting with dragons and princes and ive already thought about witch harrow, princess harrow & knight gideon, prince kiriona (my personal favorite) and it just stops there. theres no plot its just pretty pictures and like a scene in my head where they snipe at each other. unless theres an equivalent motivator for lyctorhood or alecto in there its the same book plot with a different outfit on

i have heard of soul eater tlt aus before but again idk shit about it and also im not willing to watch an entire anime for au potential. also i will say something very mean here. i dont really like crossover aus. for example let me take a few animes i have watched (haikyuu, dungeon meshi) and put that thing into griddlehark: i can take gideon and harrow and box them within an already existing narrative (they have to go to nationals! they have to go to the dungeon to further their own goals!) but hq/dunmeshi work specifically because of their detailed cast. gideon and harrow do not have the levels of soulmate-friendship that allow them to grow through the power of volleyball (also i think harrow would be a manager instead of a player). i can see harrow becoming the dungeon master and being Consumed by the depth of her vision, but you would have to assume that they can keep up the competence of laioss monster knowledge and enough physical/magical prowess to keep them both alive. actually hold on if i add the sixth in there they might just be a competent team this au isnt so bad. BUT MY POINT STANDS. youre trying to fit beautiful round pegs into square holes - it fits, but somethings missing and it just feels a little unsatisfying. theyre not bad though. theyre just stuff id just draw once or twice then not think of again

hey whats up!!! its me again!!! happy valentines day :3 finally caught up to patch. and by patch i mean "talking about things that i remember reading." finally got around to reading/playing a bunch of things that were really hyped up!! that ive been really looking forward to :3 yippee also, one of my new years resolutions was to play all of umineko? which according to most people ive seen, does in fact take An Entire Year due to being 1. fully voice acted 2. a little over 1 million words. so uh, please look forward to that.

books:

camp damascus by chuck tingle: horror ya. a girl on the cusp of adulthood belongs to a strict and isolated christian sect, living in the town with the us' most famous conversion camp. things get weird quickly.um ok i was really hyped about this! its the first chuck tingle thing that ive actually read (lol) but ive been following his stuff for a while. its an interesting look into what its like to be uh, really christian and also (SPOILERS) gay, but the whole time i was like man i wish i was playing [we know the devil]. which is a really good game please play wktd :3 there were some really cool and chilling body horror parts!! which i liked a lot!! but overall it was more inspiring (?) than scary, which wasnt really what i was looking for personally

the way spring arrives and other stories: translated chinese scifi/fantasy anthology, written and translated by a team of women + nb writers. really solid!!! took me a while to get through, but theres such a wonderful variety of stories here--some are creepy, some are heartwarming, some are silly, some are elegant. i particularly enjoyed some of the essays about translation itself, as well as the titular stories and A Brief History of Beinakan Disasters as Told in a Sinitic Language. definitely check it out!!

spark joy by marie kondo: an appendix of sorts to marie kondos super big book the life changing magic of tidying up, with a couple more practical tips and some anecdotes. ok to get kinda personal, konmari stuff appeals to me bc i grew up surrounded by detritus. from where i sit in my childhood bedroom, i can see a stack of floppy disks, old checkbooks, and a copy of The Lost Treasures of Infocom--a game from 1991. almost none of it is ever touched. so the idea of having a space full of only joyful things is really appealing.. honestly i think the best bit of advice from the book was that if you have things that are necessary but dont necessarily elicit joy (eg screwdrivers, coffee makers, whatever) that you try and take a bit to appreciate/praise those items and what they do for you? and they may become more beloved :3 anyways probably not worth reading unless youre already into the whole konmari thing

ninefox gambit by yoon ha lee: space opera. kel cheris, a freshly promoted general, has been sent to suppress a rebellion lodged in a fortress. but her greatest enemy is also her greatest asset: the implanted consciousness of the prodigy traitor-general, shuos jedao. famous for winning impossible battles--and infamous for killing his entire fleet. its kind of in a trio of "lesbian sff about empires and stuff" with machineries of empire and traitor baru cormorant. well for one i really liked it. i do have a lot of hours in um games like civ 5 and starcraft but i usually dont like Reading books about military stuff. this is obstacle number 1. obstacle number 2 is that ninefox gambit has some really intricate worldbuilding, and unlike some other lesbian bodysharing scifi novels out there, our protagonist is not a newcomer. you dont get the assist of getting to learn about the world as the same time as her. but the thing is that ninefox gambit makes you Want to pick apart everything thats going on and get into it, and once you have a good idea of all the factions and stereotypes and tensions, etc it feels really rewarding :3 and the world is grounded in how you get to see what feels like every single level of this one infiltration/siege, from the general at the top to the infantry at the bottom even to the servant robots who clean! yay robots :3 when youre jumping to someone completely different, doing something totally unrelated, its pretty easy for that to be… super jarring? (hi sanderson) but it was not that <3 although it took a bit for me to get it, i also liked the intermittent correspondence that we get to see from the enemy side as well. how humanizing! it also balances a large cast of characters very well. characters with bit parts still feel memorable to the extent they need to be? idk how to say that correctly. obviously between cheris and jedao, jedao has the upper hand conversationally pretty much always but they have a good dynamic and its cool to see her strengths come through in other ways i think one of its strengths/weaknesses is that its very focused on this One siege in One point in time. i would love to hear about the anden in the sequels for example. also like does everyone have to be in a section or are there real (non conquered) civilians. how do yall grow food. also yeah sorry democracy beign the ultimate heresy made me laugh ninefox gambit is kind of a tricky read; its probably not a good idea to try reading without a stretch of uninterrupted time + brain energy but i liked it 👍 i thought it was good 👍

raven strategem by yoon ha lee: sequel to ninefox gambit! yoon ha lees ability to balance lots of different povs works really well for this book :3 it really ratchets up the tension! i also really liked seeing all of the exotics lol (magic wepaons that do crazy stuff). unfortunately the tension didnt pay off in a way that was really satisfying to me personally, however.. it didnt really help that i didnt like one of the main pov characters (brezan.) the first book is still worth reading though as a standalone!

comics/manga:

mitsuya sensei no keikakuteiki na edzuke: m/m series about a cooking writer (older man) and his editor. ok i talked about this last time but im a big fan of romance with older people in it. the baggage comes preattached!! also the protag in this kinda looks really similar to shinji from kamen rider ryuki?? has some Extremely Delicious looking food art, as well as some really nice like. food + desire + eroticism type thing going on. (i started reading it bc tumblr user stella obstinaterixatrix was talking about it as an example of non explicit eroticism!) yay i love food manga :]

sonna me de mitekure: aka look at me with those eyes. m/m romcom that parodies a lot of common BL tropes (overbearing prince of the school falls in love with some rando!) but also has a lot of heart :3 definitely only worth reading if youre like. already sort of in the soup of romance manga though lol

ouji-chan no sukina hito: suuuper cute f/f oneshot about baby prince idolization

botticelli drawings exhibit: ok i just thought this was neat. it was an exhibit about some of the preliminary sketches that were made for some of botticellis famous pieces (he was a famous painter during the florentine renaissance in italy) i like how you got to learn more about how the Workshop Style worked like how a lot of paintings were actually made by lots and lots of apprentices.. also how botticelli apparently got really into this one super duper intense monk type guy and started making some kinda weird shit

movies/tv shows:

pokemon concierge: lighthearted family show about a stressed office lady who quits her job to work at a pokemon hotel. super cute!! very short!! you can watch it with your parents or kids or whatever its really not that deep but the stop motion was just soooo cute. slightly concerning in like idk the level of 'escapism from office culture' but you know how it is

dear ex: slice of life/drama? taiwanese movie. after his father's sudden death, song chengxi and his mother meet his fathers hidden male lover. dudee this movie is so fucking pretty and so sad. i almost cried and blew up and died. all 3 main parts of the cast are such good actors and the way it does grief and like the seamless sliding between memory and the present AUGH. so good

sousou no frieren anime: also known as frieren of the funerals! a slice of life/fantasy anime about what happens after you save the world. frieren is a long-lived elf who saved the world with her companions--but many decades afterwards, she still wanders the world the same as ever. bro this show is so freaking gorgeous and well made. it really makes me wish going outside was real. has a really nice sense of melancholy too.. its just a really solid adaptation :3

dungeon meshi/delicious in dungeon anime: cooking/slice of life/adventure anime set in a dnd-like setting that digs into a lot of fantasy worldbuilding. mainly about: can you eat the monsters!!!! i finished the manga a couple months ago so i was really hyped (and a little bit nervous) about this anime but studio trigger is doing a really good job!! its just a really good show ok please watch it

marry my dead body: straight police guy gets ghost-married to a dead man, and then is tasked with solving his murder. um ok so i watched this bc i misread neils text and thought it was by the same director as dear ex. spoilers this is very much not true lmfao its more lighthearted with a side of feelings about death and stuff. very silly! i think the gulf of expectation was so wide that i couldnt enjoy it that much.. also cops. why. some of the jokes didnt really hit for me esp the whole like ahhhh slag straight guy doesnt understand anything type thing? but its like not a bad light movie

percy jackson and the olympians: remake of the first percy jackson book. yeah this was fine i watched it with my mom while playing solitaire the whole time. the actors are very charming and the show is solid, but i think it really deserved to be like. a 20-episode series with 20 minute episodes, or something like that. like its oestensibly for kids but its Really trying to make that nostalgia cash grab so it exists in a slightly uncomfortable middle (writing is very basic and friendship-y which isnt necessarily bad but its not like That Deep, but also who is making a kids show 40 MINUTES LONG). anyways i think a longer pacing like that would have given more time for filler and replicating the road-trippy vibe that the original books had. its still solid though!

games:

umineko episode 1: its the classic murder mystery setup: a wealthy man on his deathbed still hasnt resolved the issue of his inheritance. he, his hateful children, and their own children are cut off from the world on a remote island. but the man still has unsettled debts….and something is deeply wrong on the island of rokkenjima 🤯ok umineko is infamous for 1. having fans who wont shut up about it 2. something something metatextual? 3. a very high bar for entry, featuring near-required modding, several hours of expository setup, and the fact that. well. its a visual novel. that aside, i enjoyed the first episode way more than i thought i would :3 the uroshimiya family is so rich and alive and shitty it felt like i was watching succession again lmfao. battler is a very endearing (if slightly stupid) main character, and there are some really strong characters laid down that make you excited to get into All That in the future. plus, once i got to the murder part it was genuinely so hair-raising? theres some phenomenal voice acting.. the scene with maria was so memorable i thought i was going to dream about it. also i loooove beatrice <3 anyways i would recommend but its not for the faint of heart. 99% of umineko-ers stop reading right before the love lets them see it, and so on.

off game: wow im so happy to have finally beat off. i mean. hey whats up. off is a weird, abstract game about a 4th-wall breaking "Batter" whos self proclaimed goal is to purify the world. its often viewed as a spiritual predecessor to games like undertale :3 …actually, i played off a long time ago and then got stuck/intimidated by the very last set of puzzles so i Just Now gave up on actually finishing and just watched a letsplay lol. honestly one thing that ive figured out over time is that actually?? im really not that much of a fan of pokemon-style rpgs like this 0_0 i mean, the gameplay is just. not that fun? and the typical random encounter type thing is just not that nice. i think this is something that a lot of jrpgs/rpgs have figured out recently, but off is an older game without those QOL improvements lol. (also random encounter is easier to code probably) anyways!! the writing in off is so compelling…its so weird in a way that invites you to pick apart that weirdness, but also makes you feel like some mysteries might remain unresolved forever. its a video game that actually Has Writing In It. its one of those (free!) indie classics thats definitely worth checking out. also i love drawing the judge and valerie. weird cats for the win ok now im just going to talk about my theories about the game. so we know that the only real humans in the world are sugar, zacharie and the baby. however, the queen and the batter are parental figures for the baby. the wardens of each of the levels were created for the baby as it (in the absence of its parents?) longed for companionship, but they warped over time. whats healthy becomes sick and whats sickening becomes necessary etc. possibly mimicking how the baby, sick and alone in the hospital, also warped over time? becoming warped caricaturizes the babys creations and makes them cruel and so the batter becomes the ultimate heroic figure, who purges whats evil and rotten. but if it lives where i live then i guess the whole world has to go?? well idk

How might one get into "reading for a living" because that's a dream job

it is not a dream job, its called publishing and i make less than 40k a year LOL.

to be less arch, im an editor, and i work in editorial which is the 'flashy' department (lmao), but it's a pretty stressful job. obviously it's one i enjoy because no one would stay in the industry unless they got some reward for it. but still. i say 'reading books' is my job but thats probably only like 40% of it. a lot of my day to day work involves nagging people for deadlines, having meetings abt whether XYZ feature will cost extra, researching marketing trends, etc. YMMV if you work as a book designer or some other dept, i know they have different rules. this isnt to bitch but i think publishing has REALLY good PR among english majors and these are things i wish someone had told me before i sunk money into a publishing degree. BTW: dont get a publishing degree. experience > MA in publishing

so like, i cant in good conscience recommend the industry -- its sort of like going to grad school except with worse pay (the phd candidate gets a stipend; the unpaid intern does not.) but if you already have prion disease and you want to go into publishing, heres what i got

publishing advice below:

first things first, you need book experience. you can get this through the obvious ways (working on ur college lit mag, unpaid internships, copyediting freelance work) but i feel like that prob goes without saying. so what ill say is: if none of those options work, you could always work at a bookstore. lots of the editors i work with actually got their start by saying in the interview, "i worked at barnes and noble and noticed that [category] sells well. i love noticing which books resonate with people" or what have you

i will say that i work in nonfiction publishing, which has some differences from like, editing queer YA fiction. one of those jobs is more competitive than the other. and the industry standards are pretty toxic (if your author misses his deadline and sends the manuscript at 6pm, tough shit, you have to work late to make sure the book doesn't miss its pub date. if you're not thinking about all your books constantly, you must not really care. etc.)

that said one of the best things i can recommend is looking into publishing jobs in different departments. most people are competing for editorial department jobs (things like acquiring and signing books, and being the main point of contact for an author.) but if your passion mostly lies in editing or making things pristine, managing editorial departments often hire production editors who still read through all the books, but their day to day work is more like proofreading, checking barcodes, and other printing related tasks.

theres also finance. finance publishing jobs are never anyones first choice, but on the plus side, you wont have to tell the author why his advance is late. thats the acquiring editor's job. and also lots of people pivot to editorial after they have some years doing finance, design, production, etc.

i will say there are way more remote publishing jobs now than ever. theyre all super competitive but you should apply anyway. if youre entry level, look for "editorial assistant" type roles. some of these actually pay really well: to give an example, harvard hires copyeditors and editorial assistants at a rate which is more than my yearly salary. i mean, its harvard. you gotta look around. but there are more options besides the big 5 publishers. academic publishing is its own field! work at your favorite journal/database! work at JSTOR or wiley!

i dont think theres anything else i would add, other than just random shit talking abt industry standards and quirks of the industry. i dont want to sound whiny because i realize im lucky to be working in my field -- but, i think people oversell publishing as one of "the only career options for english majors."

to be totally honest, most people could make double or triple my salary from being a project manager or corporate editor. so if you enjoy reading and editing, there are better options to you than trade publishing. if you enjoy the act of connecting with authors and making their vision a reality, you might enjoy publishing. or you might not. idk!

I also think based on anecdotes from carsons former friends, that carson was a generally unpleasant person to be around and people are more willing to dump a bad person if they are a bad person To Them. Dream is generally well liked so peoples own perception of him changes how they judge the current situation at hand. That being said you really dont know how things go on behind closed doors and what contracts/bonds are protecting people from revealing they are abusive/shitty, unless ccs reveal them themselves (and even then you still dont know the whole truth)

Per Carson, that was the general sense that I got reading through stuff regarding him. He had a history of poor behavior, and a bad history with relationships from what I could tell. So I'm sure that played a part in how they reacted to what he was doing (and from reports it sounded like people were aware of his stupid behavior and told him off but he wasn't listening). Plus, Carson admitted to the behavior, and it seems to me like content creators were aware of it.

In Dream's case, I'm sure the fact his friends like him would play a part, but also like, his general character also plays a part in this. All reports we've had have been that Dream has been very particular about keep his face off the internet pre-face reveal, even close friends didn't get photos until George did. The idea that he was sending photos of himself at all to a random stranger is already rather absurd, let alone sending nude photos to someone he knew was 17 less than three weeks after actually started talking to this person. As I've said before, that is an extreme claim to make, Dream has faced many false accusations in the past (including directly before this one), and no proof of the extreme claim was provided (ie any kind of photos or evidence of photos). Personally, I wouldn't believe these sorts of allegations if my friend denied them and this was all the proof that was offered. I wouldn't blame someone else for making the same choice about their friends.

There's also a level of "they have a lot more knowledge than we do". Hell, even about the smaller stuff. Like Amanda's claim that Dream had a chest full of sex toys. Like, Sapnap has moved with this man more than once. Clearly none of them have issues going through each other's space. I just generally get the feeling that Sapnap would know if that's true, and if he knows that's bullshit, he would know the rest of it would be bullshit too. Or if any of his friends had information on times he was busy, things he was going through, etc, that makes the timeline nonsensical.

That all being said, I really don't ever think the answer would be "contracts". Like, that's some of the BS that Dream's Ex tried to claim awhile back. While I'm sure like, those with Dream's merch company and stuff have contracts, I don't doubt for a second if any of his friends legitimately thought he was fucked up/abusive, they can and would leave. Particularly those outside his merch company. Like, Jack Manifold and Connor were straight up like looking at his doxx on Miz's stream awhile ago. Plenty of them have criticized him or disagreed with him. Any contracts that they may have clearly don't prevent them from speaking out.

for me, you still go on dates except they’re known as hang outs, you still cuddle and can give kisses except on the lips, you can still hold hands and do things that could be seen as romantic. i think the biggest difference is sexual affection since that’s normal for people dating or f buddies but not for friends.

i think the reason people might think you and hypnos were in love is because you are in love, just not a romantic love where you want lip kisses and sexual affection. you’re platonically in love, thats just my perspective though based on my understanding of platonic and romantic love, i’d like to know your understanding of the differences between the two

i’m mostly possessive of my fps, but i’m extremely protective of my friends. when it comes to my fps, it’s sort of similar to how i would be if i had a romantic attraction to someone, but platonic. i’m very clingy, protective, i stalk their social media, etc etc. i just only have platonic feelings for them. the difference between romantic and platonic obsession for me is the delusions. when i’m attracted to or in love with someone i have those feelings of “we’re soulmates” “we were made for each other” “this is about me!!” “they want me so bad” and so forth. those are the thoughts that come to mind when i think about it but im also half sentient so i might expand on this later if thats something you want. im my friends biggest supporter and if they’re happy, im happy... but i do want to spend all my time with them! i dont really experience sexual attraction for anyone unless ive got a really close bond with them and i have to have a great deal of trust,, so that is kind of out of the question for me regardless.

i like that you mentioned kisses and physical displays of affection, because with my friends i’m very affectionate. i like to cuddle with select friends and i give them kisses on the forehead. i’m a very touchy person when i’m comfortable.

with hypnos, i would say it’s a “platonic in love”. i’m in love with his soul and we’ve known each other for years now. i think we understand each other very very well and we flirt playfully alot which can be misleading to onlookers. we’re strictly platonic, but we do have that homoerotic friendship. im on different levels with different friends and with some i have a different standing in their lives. i don’t know if this clears it up any, or if it’s well articulated enough, but i hope so!!

I met a Satanist in Ireland two years back, and like they had the vibe down, like all the stereotypes but he made it look fun. Shaven head, goatee, suit, business card, two babes on his arms, velvet voice, I’d just lucked into free drinks at the art gallery across the street, and then on crossing the street there he was, exiting the restaurant I was about to enter. Pleasant fellow. My brother’s convinced he was the actual devil and I was an idiot not to make a deal with him then and there, since he left me one of his cards as well as a photo (just of him, he didn’t think it was best to have me in the same photo) when I asked. Do you get up to those level of vibes, or is that just Irish Satanists? Because it does look fun.

idk sounds to me like you just met a super charismatic dude that just happened to be a satanist.

he may have fit a stereotype, but a) he may have done that intentionally, and b) not all satanists fit into that stereotype.

hell of i know if i have "those level of vibes." i'm just a poor fat chronically ill dyke trying to get by. i couldn't even tell you what sort of satanism he practices or if we practice anything close to the same thing even if we use the same words to describe ourselves.

some advice if you want to get into satanism:

stay far far away from any organized group. there isn't a single one out there that isn't super fucking shitty and run by literal nazis

don't bother with LaVey, he aint great either

keep an eye out of antisemitic shit and learn how to recognize dogwhistles and conspiracy theories

don't trust a single fucking person who claims to have any sort of authority over this kinda shit or some sort of ultimate secret knowledge. nobody goes around trying to convert others like Christians do unless they're trying to start a cult.

Heyo! We've done six of these so far and it's been fun running this little game for yall. I hope its entertaining for you!

Now that we've got some under our belts I wanted to open up for feedback on a few different points. Im going to go over how ive done stuff so far, so if you have any thoughts on aspects of it you can chime in.

Putting the rest under the cut since it's kind of long.

1. Timing

So far I've tried to post new ones at sort of random times in the day so it doesn't give any one a consistent advantage. Im US Eastern and posts might go up anytime between 8am and 2am. I might even use the queue to schedule round the clock.

Another timing thing is that when someone guesses right, I give at least a few hours more before posting the reveal. It's just to give people a little more time to play, even if someone gets the answer right away. That's not to say you cant play after the reveal posts go up, but if youre anything like me, as soon as the ability to see the answer is available im clicking that link lol.

And since the reveal post tags the winner, I wait at least a few more hours for the next silhouette post so the prev winner doesnt have the advantage of being notified of the next one.

So a question here is should I wait longer or shorter on any of these areas? Do you like that its only one unrevealed at a time?

2. Difficulty level

This has been the hardest because it's a learning curve to find what's easy, what's hard, and why. There are SO many characters and runs, so it's hard to know if something I thought was memorable was even a blip on other people's radars. So ive tried to do a mix of difficulties.

Easier ones mean more people have the satisfaction of guessing and maybe getting it right, but if it's too easy then it might feel like these are puzzles for babies.

Harder ones mean a challenge and a lot of satisfaction if you figure it out or know that it's some niche thing. But if it's too hard then nobody gets it and it can feel kind of bullshit.

So what im wondering here is, do you feel like these have been too easy or too hard? Do you like it being a mix?

3. Character and image selection

If I put up a straightforward silhouette of Etrigan, everyone's going to get it and there's no challenge. On the flip side if i did a silhoutte or jason blood standing in a contextless room its like that could be literally any random man, so itd lead to random guesses. So ive been trying to find the sweet spot of the silhouette being somewhat familiar but not completely unique, and the rest of the image with some stuff going on. I think that's been going well but it does mean it relies on me and my ability to make a good little puzzle of it. So i hope I've been doing an alright job in that area.

Choosing from particular runs is interesting. I usually think of a character first then go find something they were in. Im finding the stories with other characters and team ups are good options to provide that extra context. But then the tricky part is that i have to be at least somewhat aware of whats popular and whats not. I dont want to use a panel from a run nobody read (unless its really good), and I also dont want to do one so infamous that everyone knows it like the back of their hand. So as with choosing particular images, I hope my choice of titles I'm sourcing these from has been fair.

4. How to guess

I went with tags so it encourages people to reblog and hopefully spread awareness of the blog. I think its also the easiest way people are inclined to interact per post. We couldve done asks but sometimes those get dropped by tumblr, and all the reveal posts would be answers to asks instead of standalone posts.

I like the idea that even for old ones people can still play and have fun with guessing on their own. Not sure if theres a clever way to encourage that.

And i hope the leaderboard is fun. Just a small incentive to participate. Its like saying nice job, thank you for playing.

5. Hints

As mentioned previously, if over a day goes by and nobodys got it ill post a hint. I've only done one hint so far and i was really not sure how subtle or overt i should be. Idk if anyone has thoughts about it?

Harmonic Triads and Average Base Mood

I hadn’t put these on tumblr & it occurred to me that I probably should  

Theory or possible insight that came to me between some of the recent discussions here.

eg. the positive types would typically jump out of bed with a positive base mood -

unless they have some psyhiatric condition, are under substantial stress or had some major tragic backstory happen to them.

"9s whose parents didnt suck" seemed to be the happiest group overall in the recent"typical moods thread".

Though of course when negative stuff/ tough situations do happen, they do each have characteristic negative corners that they can slip into (For 9s often is this sort of 'why bother with anything?' depressed state, for 7s a pervasive restlessness or understimulation void, and for 2s more of a wet, active pain - "no one likes me or appreciates me, i want to cry and also smash things") Being wedged in between two reactives perhaps reflects how the 7s require ore input to maintain the sunshine & sparkles.

Whereas the competency types would tend to have a more neutral baseline, with the 3s generally reporting this most often. (kinda makes sense, with them being placed between one positive & one negative wing)

You'd think that, if your feelings are mostly reactions to things that happen, there is no reason to have a reaction when nothing recently happened, but apparently not.

This recent psychology book I read a while ago detailed that ppl most often do have some slight low-level mood going on with actual neutrality being somewhat unsual, which tracks with the competency types generally being outnumbered, since theres not as many 3s as 6s or 9s, for example. Even 7 isn't that infrequent, so the positives are probably the greatest majority.

Hence the common adage that "Doesn't everybody want to be happy?" Statistically speaking, most ppl do.

Which leaves the question of how to characterize the reactives.

4s and 6s certainly report higher rates of subjectively experienced negative states (if you give them a big 5/OCEAN questionaire, for example) but this isn't really the case for 8s, whose negative moments are more individual points if something just blew up in their face.

Though they tend to interpret things that others would read negatively as stress, anxiety, anger etc. as positive excitment & "aliveness".

One thing one immediately notes is that reactive types, well, react a lot, and quickly, often going to a lot of reactions in a short time. So maybe there isn't a fixed baseline or center or gravity to the same degree

8s and 4s are both somewhat intensity seeking; The 6s are the most stability-loving out of the bunch but you even hear some of them saying that they do best with a moderate level of challenge, like having something to work against. Some of the cp ones can even be outright thrill-seeking. A cynic might remark that the phobic 6s are so good at making stress for themselves that they dont need any extra stress from the outside. though one might say the same about 4s and drama and in that case we come close to glass houses territory, i can always find something to sulk about if so desired, though for me of course that then goes straight to the intellectualized level. Actually getting to the point of having a physical reaction & crying would not be so pleasant or common for me, which would likely be different for a core 4.

So perhaps ideal state for reactives is some mild "positive stress" though the preferred level and type thereof differs greatly between the individual types. A phobic 6 doesn't per se want to do the same risk-filled jobs & hobbies as an 8. But you do hear even from phobic 6s that there can be a tendency to "always look for something to fix" in a relationship so that they can reaffirm that they & their partner are still on the same team.

This might be where the idea comes from that "a good relationship should have some arguments". That was probably invented by a 6 - cue legions of teenage fanfic writers clumsily inserting a "first argument" scene into their ship fics regardless of whether it made sense for the characters or situation.

I personally wouldn't miss them if there is no need for them, for all that im all for confronting problems when they come up rather than brushing them under the rug

In my experience with a two competency types relationship, there were pretty much zero fights for the first 3 years that it was going good, and not cause grievances were being ignored, either, we'd just, like, discuss improvement suggestions.

Probably one of the main reasons that you often do see competency types pairing up in the first place. "Ah, finally someone whos not clingy & wont mind it if I work alot. What a pleasant absence of drama"

Though, on the rare occasion that an argument does need to happen, one possible pitfall can be to fall into the unspoken convention that the first person to flinch has automatically lost the argument. If you don't like it when ppl draw attention to such involuntary reactions as you didn't manage to keep under wraps, you might wanna extend the same courtesy to your partner...
