Hi!! I’m sure you’ve posted about it before, but would you care to share like, a beginners guide/basic explanation of your doll lore stuff? All your art of it is super cool & I’d love to know more!! (Also, are Ilta and Cecily from that same universe?)

The doll lore stuff is a little something i've got on the side here

Basically, the backstory is that the world is going through a slow apocalyptic event, that causes the systems governing whatever's after death to not work properly, resulting in A Lot of ghosts. To manage this problem, ghosts are put inside doll bodies to keep them from wandering around in confusion and becoming hostile to people.

A lot of stuff is done with living dolls instead of humans, because for whatever prooobably unrelated reason birthrates have been plummeting unnaturally & so there just arent many people to go around.

The dollmaker's guild trains and certifies professional ghost wranglers/doll makers, Sharon and Aalis were trainees with them until Things Happened. Afterwards Sharon got a special permit to work as a dollmaker despite now being a living doll herself, while Aalis fled somewhere to escape prosecution for her dollmaking crimes. They've got a tense relationship when they meet now, but looking at them its obvious they once cared deeply for each other... that kind of yuri.

Airi is an older poltergeist Sharon took with her to help her out with her work. Some centuries ago she died tragically very young and had become a ghost the old fashioned way, through her lingering regrets/rage at her fate/etc. was a big problem in her home for a long while, but in the end Sharon ended up picking her up and employing her.

As for more soecific doll lore i've made a bunch of posts in the tag #oc lore, unfortunately it's kind of really messy in there so sorry about that 😣

Ilta & Cecily either arent from there, or are from wayyy earlier in the timeline. I Could connect their worlds pretty easily but idk if i really want to yet. Stuff to consider for sure

As the sun was beginning to set painting a beautiful ray of colors that shined through Yujis dorm. Thankfully, Megumi was dragged out by Gojo to go to some ice cream shop that he strongly did not want to go to leaving you two alone. You have been dating Yuji for quite a while remembering how absolutely happy he was to hear a new student was joining the trio, adding onto another girl for Nobara to be friends with. Was it the way you smiled around everyone? Or your laugh that although you hated it Yuji absolutely adored. It didn’t take long for everyone to realize that he was Head over heels for you. Constantly asking Megumi what you were doing if he didn’t see you all day or bothering Nobara about photos you guys took hanging out. So when he finally asked you out and you said yes, he felt like his dream came true. Which brings you to You and Yuji sitting on his bed, his arm wrapped around you as two watched the tv. Nothing more you could imagine than that. As you payed close attention to the drama going on the tv, a question popped in your head that you had to ask. “Hey Yuji?” You asked him looking at him as he turned to face you. “What’s up?” He asked curiously as he tapped his fingers on your arm that was wrapped around you. “Do you think we’re together in every universe?” You asked him as the couple on the tv were dancing together in a slow and romantic way that everyone dreams to be danced with. And for the first time Yuji froze.

Yuji paused. Almost as if time stopped. As he looked at your curious face waiting for his response. He knew there was a right answer and he definitely knew how to say it but he wanted to wait. So instead of answering your question he turned off the tv and stood up leaving you completely flabbergasted. “Yuji?” You asked him confused as he ignored your question and you felt nervous of what his answer might be. Is this where everything ends between you two? You were overthinking as he turned on his speaker and played a song on his phone. A slow romantic song that he pulled you to dance with. As you giggled at his random behavior, and the way he placed his hands on your hips as the song played. You instantly wrapped your arms around his neck as you two danced together. The feeling of comfort and warmth between you two as you swayed, the sunset still glistening outside as you saw the way he looked at you. The way he smiled and how handsome he looked. You felt yourself falling in love all over again. The way you placed your head on his chest you could hear his heartbeat as he held you a bit tighter.

If only you could see yourself in his eyes. The way you looked as the sunset made you even more beautiful. Yuji could feel his heart beating a bit faster as he moved some strands of hair out of your way to see your face clearly. The way your hair shined in the sun, how you were glowing in the sunset, as you smiled back at him. “(Y/N)” Yuji said softly as you looked into his eyes. He decided to twirl you, as he heard your giggle and the way you playfully called his name “Yuji!” Knowing he caught you off guard. As he twirled you and twirled you away from him leaving you too holding hands as you were standing in front of the window, the sun almost finishing setting, the beautiful hues of the yellow pink sky adding a beautiful scenery as you stared at him. From his view you were everything as he finally answered your question. “(Y/N)” the way he called your name in such a loving way before he continued “It will always be you. No matter what, no matter where.” He said almost breathlessly as your eyes widened at his answer and the way you noticed his pupils dilating as he looked at you before cupping your face and bringing you to a long sweet loving kiss.

Well, there’s one specific scene for the first question.

I saw this and was like, wait. This alien’s kinda.. hot. And he was making these adorable faces all cuz he was fighting Saitama. Then he dies, after making Saitama use the serious punch for the first time in the story.

They were really something. So naturally i started shipping them. And I naturally went to ao3 to look up borosai and despaired cuz there was only like 40 fics for them at the time. But still, I read them all(and they were all great), and started drawing art for them. Back then, I had no idea that I’d be fixating on them for so long, longer than anything i had a fixation for😂

My favorite thing about this ship is that they’re so different. Almost everything about them is so comically different. Just look at these two.

Just them standing next to each other is visual comedy at its finest.

They have different moralities, personalities, styles, amounts of hair, etc.

Which makes their similarities all the more interesting. They’re both bored to death, because they’re too strong. They both crave that stimulation of being in a fight with their lives at stake. They both feel lonely, because no one understands what it’s like to have this kind of strength. This loneliness is shown more in depth with Saitama, but I think it’s the same with Boros too. When we’re first shown Boros, he’s all stoic and cold with his subordinates, his expression barely changing. But when he meets Saitama, it morphs into excitement. Then as the fight goes on, it turns into an almost childish glee, making him ramble on about his strength, his home planet, until Saitama snaps at him to stfu😂 But who can blame him? After so many years of solitude he finally meets someone who’s on the same page as him.

With their fight, Boros gets what he wanted. The fight he was craving so much. A fight telling him that there’s still something that can surprise him in this Universe. That he wasn’t alone. Which is why even as he was shocked that he had lost, he doesn’t feel angry or bitter about it. Rather, it almost seems like he feels pity for Saitama. Because surely there’s no chance for him to meet someone who is as strong as him. So he calls out Saitama’s name, as his last words, and dies.

All the above is more or less canon, but if we were to veer a bit off course into an au where Boros lived, there’s so much potential for an interesting relationship between them. Imagine the possibilities. He could be like a stronger version of Sonic, challenging Saitama week after week, always getting his ass kicked but coming back for more, a little stronger than last time. And hey, since this is a Borosai au, they could very well fall in love😆

This turned out to be longer than I expected and not exactly on topic but look, I can’t help myself.

The current hc that’s rotating in my brain rn is that they’re madly in love, and is married. And have a child😂

Okay i know this sounds absolutely bonkers but I’ve been hardcore shipping them for too long and them being in a relationship is like a default setting for me when I think about them, so giving them a kid to take care of on top of all that just came naturally. Imagine the utter chaos it would ensue. It’d be peak comedy.

even though im very happy to be sharing them im also very nervous aswell. i was rlly overthinking my hcs how to word them, which ones to add cuz there are a lot of micro ones, throughout my time writing this, hence why it took me so long to respond. however i think its just best to kinda bite the bullet cuz youll never know how ppl will feel ab them if u dont talk ab them.

tried to keep these hcs more generalized and keep some of the more basic ones, alongside throwing in some more fun ones. any details or other hcs that arent here will prob show up in future content

Trans! (love how this is a universal hc in the fandom lmao) he/him

Dyslexic, Stompin' Bob is mainly the one who lends him a helping hand when he's having a hard time

When he's stressed or nervous he'll pick at the feathers on his flippers (kinda like picking at nails/skin)

He can be very self conscious about his appearance/body (this was especially heavy during his first years in the band). Ofc his bandmates and Cadence are always there to reassure him and comfort him whenever it bothers him

His main love language/way of showing affection is words of affection, correlating to the previous hc

Silence filled the air for a few minutes. It’s always like this with Yoongi. Silence, comfort, and safety. It was never quiet with you. Not in your life. But whenever Yoongi come into it, it became quiet. He has made you feel at peace. He has made you feel warm.

The warmth he offered sometimes hurt, you admit. But it was not his fault. You are greedy. You want more of the warmth than what he can offer. But you would take this hurt everyday than go back to the chaos and noise that you have known before him. And tonight, you feel you can allow yourself to be more greedy.

“Do I look pretty tonight?” The words come out of your mouth before you even think. The beating heart in your chest seemed to want to run away from your brain with how fast it went.

“What?” Yoongi undoubtedly found the question unusual as you have never asked him questions like this. You weren’t one to worry about your appearance. They know that you’re definitely insecure about a myriad of things but you refrain from letting people know about it. Indulging the people you care about your problems is just not you.

“I’m asking you if you think I’m attractive.” You repeat, cheeks blushing and eyes set in the other direction. Where you’re getting your confidence right now, you’re not sure where.

“My arms are gonna die, get in.” He pleads and you comply. You’re disappointed he doesn’t answer the question but you decide not to press into it further due to sudden embarrassment.

You step in and turned around, sliding your right arm first and then your left. You fix the jacket on you as you look straight ahead the empty sidewalk. This was his favorite one. The black one adorned with white details of dragons on the chest and the sleeves.

“Put your hand in the right pocket.” He instructs and you did. You feel something box-like and fish it out of the garment.

It was a rectangular black velvet box not bigger than your palm. “Wha–”

“It’s your present.” He interrupts your confused reaction.

Inside the box was a gold necklace with a pendant not bigger than half an inch. It resembled a butterfly. The wings were carved by horizontal lines but was connected to four tiny diamonds on each wing’s inner part.

“Is this real?” You ask, eyes squinting at the necklace now in your hand.

“Are you saying I’m cheap? Of course, it is. I had my friend from work get it. That’s where I stopped by before going in.” He answers and takes the necklace from you from the back.

Before you knew it, his arms were in your peripheral vision, ready to put the necklace on you. He clasps it around your neck and you feel the cold pendant on your hand, admiring it.

Cold hands turn you around by the shoulders, making you face him.

“You look beautiful.”

And he smiles. His hands are still on your shoulders, literally making him an arm length from you. The smile on his face is the cutest you have ever seen. It’s toothless and his cheeks more fluffier than ever. The way his eyes sparkled competed with the street lights and the present stars the night sky above the two of you.

Thank you for this amazing update it was so so good. I will probably end up sending multiple asks (apologies in advance) because there is so much to process. This was such an amazing chapter! Your ability to capture these strong emotions and display what I feel is accurate characterizations is truly captivating. I've been so pumped for this chapter and I was just so blown away by it.

God first off Impulse. IMPULSE!!! My man literally carried Tango to a safe place, helped the ranchers feel safe, and just went full Dad mode. I flipped when he went full demon mode after finding out what happened to Tango. Man was ready to enter Hels and destroy Hels Tek block by block.

Jimmy getting hints about Watcher stuff as well was *chef kisses*. Kinda curious can Martyn and Scott hear what the Watchers are saying to Jimmy? Martyn seemed to step in just when they were getting extra hurtful.

God you fed us with Ranchers too. I was so happy that Tango may slowly be starting to get that he is loved. The way Jimmy didn't back down. uggggg perfection

Also Tango associating quartz with Hels was so painful. My man went through every trauma response this chapter and probably will still hit like 30 more.

Small questions you might not be able to answer yet but will ask anyways. When Tango went through the portal, is it still open on Double Life or did Jimmy get in at the last second? If Tango did break the portal would he or Bravo be able to get back to the rest of the universe? You mentioned that Bravo's sense of superiority shows up differently in Tango, is that Tango enjoys watching other suffers. That he enjoys the power it gives him or is that more of a trauma response due to strong need to be in control and by killing others he feels like he is strong enough to protect himself? Or I guess a combo of both hahaha. Ummmm last question for now can I like stab Atlas for like everything? Especially the collar? That cool ya awesome I'm gunna assume that's a yes

(but neither of them were close enough to catch grian’s brief slip into watcher state, in case anyone was wondering)

obvi u sent this in before i answered other asks abt it but JUST in case u didn’t catch those, tango was interrupted before he could break the portal, and if it were broken, they would still be able to open a portal out of hels using another player’s data.

as for ur other question, it’s def a bit of both. tango’s always had a bit of sadism in him as an amplification of bravo’s superiority complex. one of his favorite pastimes pre-hels tek was to set traps outside of the cities and wait for players to stumble into them and perish terribly, while he watched with delight. but after hels tek, he fixated more on mob farms as a way of trying to reclaim that trauma, while ALSO being a more socially-acceptable way to scratch that itch.

and last but not least, u can TRY to stab atlas but ur gonna have to wait at the end of a very long line.

hi its polyshipper anon here with more headcanons of my polyship sodhsk

so i like to imagine that my ovenist is an absolute simp for the other four but he’s not as obvious about it bc like he’s a very affectionate person towards friends so before the polycule is formed the lovers dont pick up on the fact that he would do ANYTHING for them

HOWEVER the lovers are soooo incredibly obvious that Terry (my ovenist) is like ‘wait. wait do they like me like that. all four of them ???? my love is reciprocated?!?!?!’ and very casually freaks out about this realization to his friends (his friends that consist of other gpgp characters and some characters from another game cuz the brainrot is strong LOLOL)

ive mentioned before that Keh becomes a massive simp when he realizes that he fell in love w the ovenist, he is the most obvious

like he’s always giving gifts to them and complimenting the ovenist cuz Keh noticed that the ovenist’s love language is words of affirmation and also he’d do anything for the ovenist

and like. Terry notices the sudden 180 in attitude n is like 👀🤔 until one day he’s hanging out w his friends and Keh is there, and he’s being a lil mean and Terry just looks at him like >:( and tells him to not be mean and Keh actually listens and stops

and Terry’s like ‘oh he’s in love with me’ cue screaming into pillow after everyone leaves

Alicante is the second most obvious cuz of his whole tsundere type behavior

i like to think Alicante falls in love during the mother’s day event when Terry helps him reconnect w his mom (in this universe takes place before chapter 4 and 5, which is why Alicante helps with going against Bechamel)

but Alicante just acts in the same way as before so it takes a little longer for the ovenist to notice until Alicante does the whole ‘it’s not like i like you or anything!’ and some teasing from Plant Lady (Alicante n Plant Lady are roommates in this story) which is when Terry connects the dots and cue screaming into his pillow again

3rd most obvious is Bechamel, similar to Keh in that there was a noticeable change in attitude towards the ovenist

its more of a slow-burn enemies-to-lovers story with Bechamel and the ovenist cuz yk. he literally shut her business down (but didnt reveal it to the public) so she’s like upset abt it ofc

but when she does fall in love w Terry, she starts doing stuff for him (her love language is acts of service imo) but she’s not like loud abt it yk? its only when Terry asks Bechamel to help him w a thing and she does it w/o question or complaint that he’s like ‘wait. wait what’ and starts reviewing their interactions over the last few months (cue screaming into pillow LMAOO)

and last but not least, the least obvious (but still pretty obvious) of the bunch, Dr. Price!

he’s the least obvious because like he exudes chadm and charisma, and after they become friends he regularly jokingly flirts w the ovenist and the ovenist is flustered but flirts back

thats their whole dynamic and Dr Price like slowly falls in love with the ovenist, and when he realizes it he suddenly gets shy about the flirting

he still flirts but its not as confidently as before and the ovenist notices and at first he thinks ‘oh no he doesn’t like me DD:’ but when Dr Price starts visiting more often and staying for longer does he have the realization ‘oh he’s just in love with me’ cue screaming into pillow ODHSKDH

so yeah a few weeks before the polycule is formed Terry is just like ‘oh my god. all my crushes like me back. oh my god.’ and he freaks out abt it to his friends but theyre all like ‘just confess ?? u already know they like u??? whats the problem??’ and he answers to that with vague panicky hand gestures, monotone screaming and keysmash LOLOLOL

The thing is Dr. Keh was in denial at first but the ovenist eventually notice the small change of his behavior. He's suddenly a bit more stern with her when he finds out about my ovenist's prone to getting hospitalized due to exhaustion. It began to forcing the ovenist to change into a different and better hospital to insisting he accompany her every check up. But he still annoys her (affectionately —)

I took inspiration for Lopu's character and story from the mahou shoujo genre, with the core elements being that a seemingly-average girl discovers she actually has the capability for magical powers, and uses those to help spread hope and save others. Love is a major theme for Lopu, and its what gives her the strength and motivation to do what she does. Lopu grew up in Gridania, where she left and became the Warrior of Light at age 25. She's always had a deep feeling of wanderlust within her, and the events of the MSQ are what kickstart her into being able to get out and see the world. She's lived her life knowing there had to eventually be more out there for her, and her assumptions are proven right as she takes up the title of the WoL and makes herself known. She's no doubt had her ups and downs, but never once has she regret her journey. Others may call her a hero; but even after all this time she still considers herself just an adventurer that likes to help people. In her free time, Lopu has a few hobbies she likes to indulge in! Current Obsession: Bloodborne. Without any semblence of a singular doubt, it has to be Bloodborne. It's a perfect mix of gothic and cosmic horror, the atmosphere is breathtaking when you first walk into the city of Yharnam, and it was the second Souls game I played right after Elden Ring. Bloodborne does everything story and lore related right. Chilling tones, gruelling questlines, every major progression is a punch to the gut held back only by the player's own ability to pointedly ignore the consequences of their actions. The themes of it's storyline are incredibly twisted, in the best way possible. Every moment is a fight for survival, and not only to avoid the "You Died" screen FromSoftware are so famous for. Yharnam is a phenomenal setting, and from the get-go it's obvious that whatever civilization once thrived here cannot be saved. There is no "good ending", only kill or be killed. I love Bloodborne, and it will always be my obsession. Also it's Victorian Era, so that's another major plus!

Last thing I Googled: Word definitions. That's literally it. I'm an Ao3 Author, what do you expect? The vibe of words comes naturally as breathing, right along with the urge to double-check if it actually means what I think it does before putting it in a fic. There is no escape from this process, believe me it will get you as it always gets me...

the estranged childhood friends ahhhhhhhhh it's so good i'm thinking something sooomething about the reader going out of their way to help shoko out when they were kids. like they were both more like street kids (i think shoko was more quiet so she came off as more "manageable" so i think she'd find a house to stay at but the reader still had to be out and shoko felt soooooooo bad and tried to make up for it by always fixing them up whenever they fought with whoever)(but the reader never wanted shoko to feel bad they think it's just the way that it is - they're out on the street, they don't belong, don't fit in I'M CRYING) but then yeah something something the reader decides to move and learn how to be a better fighter and shoko is left behind BUT NOT FOR LONG bc now this fancy ass little white haired teenager is here tagging along a sulky dark haired boy and whooo boy she now has new friends (yay) and satoru definitely gave her a room somewhere on the first floor, kind of hidden away with her own little garden area overlooking the ocean (that's where they all hang out at)(every time sugu leans on the railing to look at the sea at some point satoru comes up and scares him a little and sugu's eyebrows always furrow and he aaaaaalways hits him on his shoulder)(and shoko pretends they're annoying but in reality she's so glad to have them)

Currently, MASH. Though I did do a short LotR piece at the beginning of this year.

Oh they're all older ones. The top two are Data/Geordi fics! Then a Kirk/Spock/McCoy, A Garak/Bashir, and an IT Crowd poly fic.

5. Do you respond to comments?

If I understand them (I think I get bot ones sometimes bc they don't make sense). I figure I can never go wrong with thanking someone for their time reading.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

If this means 'saddest' then it's certainly Hearts On Paper which I found fascinating to write and will still re-read when I need a good cry.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I think most of my fics end happily or at least optimistically? I love ending with a big party or wedding or something like that. I have several that way.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not in many years. And to be fair I was like 12 and did not know how to spell, but I do remember some of those unkind comments still yeah :(

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Sometimes. I used to write kink and then had a breakdown over it (I am still proud of what I wrote it just was not a sustainable thing for my OCD, is all) but now I write what I would describe as Fussy Sex. Literally the more compromising and special considerations made from one partner to another makes me so happy. Or solo sex acts, I have enjoyed writing those this year and that's new for me.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I don't think I've ever written one. I get very stuck in the rules of whatever universe I'm working in and it's hard for me to follow two sets of rules at once.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of.

Yes, I have, and was greatly honored! It was an older smut fic, quite dark themes, and a reader approached me and asked if they could translate it into Russian and I thought that was so amazingly cool. I'll go find the link if anyone is curious.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yes! Most recently, The Famous 4077 Dog Tag Party :) we picked pairings randomly and each did a chapter.

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

I cannot possibly pick just one. Every ship that appeals to me does so at a different time and for a different reason, and the journey they take me on is always emotional and much appreciated in hindsight. My little fictional couples or their families are my family.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

oughhh presently I'm not sure if I have the right approach to finish Dull Instruments which is a shame because I really want to and I hate to start posting things I won't finish. But it feels awkward to me so I may not do it.

I like my character voices.

I try to give each piece its own style on a sliding scale of casual-formal but I wish I had more variety in like POV and stuff. Branching out into present tense this year has been nice.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I do write dialogue in American Sign Language sometimes. Because I am fluent in it. If I'm not fluent in a language I won't write a lot of it, maybe a few words here and there for the POV character to try and pick up, assuming they understand as little of it as I do.

Truly can't remember if High School Musical or 24 was first. The range, I know.

I don't know if I could choose! Sorry to give a lot of boring wishywashy answers but like. Whatever I'm writing is important to me at the moment I'm writing me, it's helping me get through something that may or may not be clear in the themes, and I am grateful to all of the stories I've written for letting me spend time with them. I've been working on some kind of fic almost daily for going on 15 years now, it's how I experience emotions and all the things in the world I'll never be able to do firsthand. It's how I have conversations I'm too shy to otherwise, it's how I see old friends, it's how I learn more about topics I never did in school. Fic is so dear to me, every word.

Interesting! I think that canon Alois learns to respect death - it isn't death that took is his family, it was vampire hunters. Also, it would be impossible for him to resurrect Odette, Elaine, Laurens and Yvonne as there is little to nothing left of their bodies. Necromancy requires a body with all vital organs intact. He would not disrespect death by trying to take that which it has claimed. Dark! Alois, however, absolutely would - he takes what he wants.

Ambroise used his golden child status to get Estienne second desserts all the time wherever they went. He was always aware of his special treatment compared to his brother who was not so genetically lucky and so he would use it to get his younger twin nice things when possible.

The first the Estienne's parents caught a young vampire man leaving his chambers, they weren't too sure what to think. (Odette was mostly thankful that it wasn't one of her heirs who would need to produce more heirs) but Ambroise quickly warmed them up to the idea by interjecting that the church wouldn't like it! It natually made the Leblanc parents much happier about their second son's bisexuality.

Yvonne has a habit of lurking around the estate. She's naturally incredibly quiet and stealthy and, for fun, she likes to use these skills to sneak up on her family members. She can be standing behind them for whole minutes before they turn around to see her and she is amused by their fright.

4. would you be considered a main character, side character, villain, or something else?

she’s the main quest prize in my version of a spin-off (first book), then…. the protagonist, but not the main character, according to my quick double check of lit rules. shes the main reason the plot progresses, on account of her then trying to break the reincarnation curse (book two), then settling for getting azure back so they can have a few more years of happiness before tragedy hits. sometimes i swap those last two bits, but ultimately, she’s THEE point of the whole story. even in canon. jacks’s main motivation 😘

5. does your self insert have any special powers or abilities?

indeed!! she has her witchy set, which is ghost/death related, w some necromancy straight up thrown in, then her half-star set, which includes creating fates, and control via fear (she WAS supposed to be in charge of fear AND love, but when she created jacks, she accidentally cleaved her power in two… he has been fashioned into her soulmate on accident… sorry… (he does NOT care. is he allowed to kiss her now??))

11. what kind of outfit(s) does your self insert wear?

i have so many silhouettes that i’d want to hit with my fantasy world beam, purely so i can (apparently) have chrysi scandalize the whole caraval universe. the whole time, a girl didn’t wear pants. not ONCE.

12. how would the fandom view your character?

i think people would hate her, cause of how murdery and mean she can be. and also bc she’d take jacks from the others & nobody can face the reality that jacks would want a bitch to keep him in his place. god forbid girls have personalities outside of being innocent girls!!

i love your writing agh. ive always wondered what your process is- like, on starting to write a fic, do you set up notes for the universe or the scene or do you just write jump in and build on the first draft? i just think that stuff is interesting to talk about

ooh thanks for asking! it's a really fun question i would be happy to answer. i will say, there's really two main ways i approach writing, so i'll tell you about both. im going ot mostly use lamplight pieces as an example since lamplight is on my mind, but feel free to ask me abt other fic as well

.....im gonna readmore this bc otherwise itll be long, but the tl;dr of my process is a focus on the question "what's the point?"

so, point. usually when i write something, i try to have an outline, but i rarely stick to them exactly. take 20 questions from lamplight (picked bc its like, 500 words, so if you dont know it its a quick read). i didnt make an outline for this one bc it's so short, but if i did, id have probably said something like...

ren and martyn traveling sometime in the middle of the plot. introduce the way they communicate--lighting up for yes/happiness, dimming for no/displeasure. make it clear the fire is ren despite the fact martyn isn't using his name, include the fact ren is a god (but martyn is still martyn about this), include martyn's armor being enchanted by ren

what im doing with this outline is three things. one, the literal plot. two, the details i think are most important to include, three (and most vitally) the purpose of the scene.

as i said, to me, the most important question in planning writing (or in writing in general) is "what's the point?"

20 questions had a lot of different driving points, since i was trying to introduce basically the entire concept of the au in a short amount of words. ren's mode of communication, status as a god, and allusions to his powers, plus his relationship to martyn, their general situation... when i opened notes to write 20 questions, i asked "why am i telling you this? what's the point of writing this?" and the answer was "introduce lamplight," so that's what this fic was.

in most of my oneshots, the point is usually some emotion im trying to evoke or an analytical idea i want to share. the points are, honestly, usually what i start with when planning these. theyre me going i need you to understand this, so how am i going to tell it to you? the point of the rhythm of cold fists for example is that i think scar threw the finale fight, so i was trying to examine what would have lead him to make that decision.

(this is the oneshot i thought was quickest to explain the point of, originally i picked a different one and this paragraph was MUCH longer)

in longer stuff i usually keep notes like.... an upcoming lamplight piece (if you dont mind spoilers) im considering is this

first few days of traveling, before the inn scene and ren is in a lanter. martyn accidentally drops ren into water/a river. establish ren's fire cant be put out + ren and martyn have a more comfortable relationship than normal paladins and gods (cuz other paladins would Not get away with this). martyn's trying to decide if he's fine with following ren and being able to laugh this off is how he does that

so ive asked myself: whats the point of this scene? well, martyn is trying to figure out if he likes ren or not in the first week of meeting him, or if swearing himself to ren in a moment of desperation was equal to / worse than the place they were escaping. he cant talk to ren and find out ren's a decent guy, so hes going to have to find out through an accidental test of ren's character: royally fucking up as a paladin and seeing how the god hes following handles it. its also establishing a worldbuilding detail (ren cant be put out) on top of defining their relationship. lots of points being made here in both this specific instance and the world/plot at large

for all this ive said abt lamplight and outlines... none of lamplight until this week has had outlines. ive been mostly just jumping into my third life fic with no plan, driven literally EXCLUSIVELY by asking "what is the point?" and a desperate need to answer it

often with unoutlined pieces, this is paired with a specific visual i want to achieve. the tavern piece was more visual than point driven, and the visual was... actually the idea of embers in the burning building surrounding martyn like fireflies. i abandoned that visual for the idea of ren materializing in the flame, however, bc once i thought of that it became the driving visual i needed to see realized instead

i actually abandon details like that a lot in my writing. ill plot a scene based on 10 details and 2 points, and ill change 9 of those details because i found different ones while the points don't really budge. honestly, i hardly even look at my outlines when im actively writing--ill reference them when i start a new scene, but theyre really more for organizing my thoughts into clear points. my missing or obstructed outline doesnt look anything at all like what ive written, but the points of the story are all in-tact.

...this is long enough as is so i wont talk abt my thoughts on first drafts and editing them, but i do have them. i hope this was interesting to you, bc i had a lot of fun thinking about it!
