The best part about the work I do is everything I get to learn in the process of writing these articles 🙌🏾 This one for @naturalhabitatadventures was a fun one to research that I ended up bookmarking a whole bunch of reading material for well after the story was done! 😲 I hope this topic piques your interest much as it did mine (also great words to add to your vocabulary for scrabble 😉) Link in stories today!! #freelancewriter #journalist #writer #editor #alwaysbelearning #solopreneur #wildlife #outdoors #naturelovers (at Los Angeles, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ck3-LRYpYDD/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I'm taking this time during the current public health crisis to learn new ways of doing things and one of those pivots is to deploy some of my mother's teachings. Mom was a depression-era child.
I am learning to make do with much less and accomplish more things with what I already have. In honor of mom, I decided to take what I had available and make a meal. I didn't have the emotional courage to deal with the entire shopping excursion process and all of the protocols and possibilities that went along with it so I decided to use what was in the fridge. For some reason, I had picked up dim sum wrappers awhile ago and I had them available but I don't eat meat so I took some Boca that I had already turned into taco stuffing. When I first tried to wrap dim sum the way it's usually sold in restaurants and stores, they fell apart and the filling leaked out so I went to YouTube and I learned dim sum wrapping skills. I made a dipping sauce with vinegar, a little bit of ketchup and siracha. Vegan taco dim dum. Is that a thing? Actually tasted really good.

A little over a year ago, I had a shoulder problem that basically meant I couldn’t use my left arm very well. Things I had taken for granted were sudden extremely difficult. Things like washing my hair became a challenge with one hand. I had to stop and think and analyze and concentrate to do a number of things but it was a blessing in many ways. I had to be resourceful and creative, and it certainly reminded me what it is like to be a beginner at something which is an excellent lesson in empathy.
Today just spend a few minutes doing an activity with your non-dominant hand. So if you usually write with your right hand, grab a pen with your left hand and write “Have a nice day” and draw a smiley face on a piece of paper. It will likely be kind messy, but that’s OK. We aren’t going for perfection, we are going for a new perspective.
Share your results and let us know what that felt like. To learn more and get more resources go to http://www.valarywithawhy.com.

Have you awakened to your true potential, or are you being lead unconsciously by your programming — acting weak and helpless and expecting others to be emotionally strong for you? How can you say that you have strength and courage if you stand there in your cold armor and close your eyes to the pain in her heart when she comes to you with tears in her eyes? Real strength comes from being emotionally strong enough to face your pain and overcome your fear of being vulnerable. Hiding behind your anger isn't real courage, it's a "fight or flight response" that creates a temporary adrenaline rush that makes you feel stronger so you can protect yourself from anything that you think is trying to hurt you. Directing anger at a loved one only ends up causing more fear and pushing love away. AN AWAKENED MAN DOESN'T REACT WITH FEAR, HE RESPONDS WITH LOVE. He is willing to be vulnerable, willing to risk being hurt because his heart, his love, is stronger than his fear of pain. He knows that it is only by learning to connect to his own feelings that he can connect to hers. He knows that it is only by feeling empathy that he will feel her pain in his heart and be moved to protect her, understand her and support her. An awakened man understands her vulnerability because he feels his own and he can't bear the thought that she would ever have to feel hurt, afraid or alone. A conscious man doesn't live in the dreamlike state of the false reality of his ego, or try to manipulate love, but he chooses to love from the strength and courage of his heart that knows pain and has overcome it. -Joel Clemons • Love, Life & Relationship Coach @the.gentleman.wolf (Although directed towards men, this information applies to both people in the relationship) Repost - @the.gentleman.wolf by @get_regrammer • Beautiful photo by: Ang McCabe @myrtleandmossphotography #bevulnerable #dontsettle #empoweringothers #womenempower #growthmindset #uniquelyyou #purposefullife #alwaysbelearning #liveonpurpose #createalifeyoulove #createthelifeyouwant #empoweryourself #createthelifeyoulove #doitscared #beyourbestself #embracechange #taketheleap #encourageyourself #createyourlife #getoutofyourownway #bey (at Pembroke Pines, Florida) https://www.instagram.com/p/CeSbYHAujOe/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

NYTimes: (It’s Great to) Suck at Something
(It’s Great to) Suck at Something https://nyti.ms/2qgOfI0
"...In the words of the Zen teacher Shunryu Suzuki, “In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities; in the expert’s mind, there are few.” When I surf, I live in the possibility.
....Maybe sucking at something where the stakes are low can lead us to a better place. Maybe it could be a kind of a medicine for the epidemic cocksureness in our culture. Seeing ourselves repeatedly doing something we suck at — no matter how trivial — might make us a bit more sympathetic to how hard so many things really are..."

On this day July 28, 1868: The 14th Amendment, which grants citizenship to all born or naturalized Americans, including former slaves, is officially ratified by three-quarters of US states. Secretary of State William Seward announces the change. Two years after the Civil War, the Reconstruction Acts of 1867 divided the South into five military zones. The 14th Amendment, ratified in July 1868, began the era known as Radical Reconstruction. The amendment clarified that “all persons born or naturalized in the United States...are citizens of the United States and of the state in which they reside.” "Equal protection under the law" was reaffirmed in the amendment. Following ratification, many African American activists argued that racial segregation denied them equal legal protection. In Plessy v. Ferguson, the US Supreme Court ruled in 1896 that states could segregate facilities for African Americans as long as they were equal to those for whites. The Plessy v. Ferguson decision was later used to justify segregation in all public facilities, including railroad cars, restaurants, hospitals, and schools. In the South and elsewhere, African Americans faced decades of heinous prejudice as “colored” institutions were never equal to their white counterparts. Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, 1954, overturned Plessy v. Ferguson. #HistoryOfThisDay #AlittleTrivia #July28th #14thAmendment #AlwaysBeLearning #BeAboutYouAcademy #RiseUpFinancialFreedomSolutions #BeAboutYourCredit #BeAboutYourBusiness #NCnotaryPublic (at Rise Up Financial Freedom Solutions LLC) https://www.instagram.com/p/CR4iYnRB9bU/?utm_medium=tumblr
