Jews around the world have just heard how Queen Esther saved the Jewish people from annihilation over 2,000 years ago. This week, the positive Israeli news is full of the achievements of Israeli women.   They include the discoverer of a treatment for a common eye disease.  Three women who developed a test for newborns at risk of disabilities.  The Oct 7 survivor who is back on her feet thanks to Israeli technology.  Technion’s first female dean of aerospace engineering. The winner of the “Nobel Prize” for Electrical Engineering. And the founder of an NGO that has brought water & electricity to 1,100 African villages.   Read also about an Israeli startup that uses AI to increase fertility, and how the Technion is encouraging young mothers to join the ranks of future entrepreneurs.   The photo (TY Sharon) is of Jerusalem’s Bible Lands Museum – one of the venues for the Jerusalem Biennale which is featuring the works of Jewish and Israeli women artists.

Huh in interesting scientific news there are differences between the tau proteins present in the brain caused by Alzheimer’s and ones caused by chronic traumatic encephalopathy (hella concussions)
and my father, the overachiever, had both! so now he gets to have a study on him published since he’s the first subject they’ve had with both!
he always did like to be first :’)

“Every cannibal wants to be a director”: LONG PIGS (Nathan Hynes, Chris Power)
Long Pigs is a 2007 “found footage” movie, in which two desperate filmmakers come across a cannibal, ask him if they can document his eating habits, and then are shocked when he starts killing people and eating them. It is presented as a documentary, with all the usual warnings about graphic scenes etc. Bit silly, and found footage has rather been done to death, but it has some interesting…

Week before Christmas off to a great start! Spent the day with the family watching A Christmas Story Christmas in a theater & got to meet Scut Farkus himself Zack Ward! And all for a great cause for Alzheimer’s Association!
The movie itself was great too, just as good as the original and I think I like this more!

There were so many positive Israeli news articles for public consumption last week, but you had to look beyond the negative front page headlines.  Which is why you read this newsletter, of course. Israelis savored the atmosphere that accompanied Yom Ha'Atzmaut - Independence Day, when the nation truly understands what it is fighting for.  Last week's positive news included a "feast" of medical breakthroughs, sweet news of diplomatic support from two European countries, healthy economic and investment progress to digest, scientific developments to combat world hunger, a succulent result in the Eurovision song contest, a rich supply of medals in sport, and a prolific survivor who demonstrated that the Jewish people will never be defeated. The photo is of one of the tasty dishes enjoyed at our synagogue's breakfast  to celebrate Israel's 76th birthday.

Forget Me Not
Unable to copy that stupid clock I become more confused My memories are a jigsaw puzzle I can’t seem to put together One piece in hand yet it doesn’t fit the other I placed down It’s like my thoughts wander about like my body does in the darkness of night. I walk about and don’t know where I am when I stop. I don’t recall where I was and worse where I’m going My reflection shows an old…
