Here are my Top Ten-ish Mystery/thriller/crime fiction of 2021. This is what I read the most so these are the best of the best. Carol Wyer and Angela Marsons with some great British crime fiction. None of their characters are safe 😱 I’m Team Teddy all the way 👨🏼‍🏫😂 Every teacher is 😉 Forget Me Not is a great story from Oliva. Coben writes stories that are effortless to read and he is the master of the twist. Both Win and The Match are great. (The Match releases in March ‘22) John Sandford teamed up Lucas and Virgil for a great story. Whitaker and Cosby gave us great crime fiction characters. The Bounty is another great addition to the O’hare/Fox series. And my top thriller this year is A Caller’s Game by JD Barker. This is one of the most wildly entertaining books you might ever read. He literally takes your breath away and the ending is 🤯. What makes an exceptional read for you? To me great books are entertaining - they’re fast-paced and hard to put down - they make me feel some emotion on a deep level - the main character will have some of the same thoughts that I have making me feel that someone else is like me. Lots of reading variety for June. Several authors that are new to me. Some great new crime fiction from Wyer. Another great thriller from Girard. Finished the Grishaverse trilogy (not sure how l feel about that ending 🤔) A bunch of audiobooks. The surprise gem was The Tragedy of Dane Riley by Kat Spears. Be sure to add that to your summer TBR. An Ambush of Widows by Jeff Abbott is a wild story. "Kirsten gets a call that her husband has been killed. She rushes to Austin, TX to find out what happened and who her husband was meeting in Austin. Her foster brother, Zach, , who works for the New Orleans mob, flies in to help her. Kirsten teams up with the other widow, Flora Zhang, to find the connection between their husbands. Why were they together and who wanted them dead?" There are a lot of familiar plot elements here - kids in foster care, hiding a body, the mob family, a hit man. so many secrets and long awaited revenge. But Abbott mixes them up in a way that I have never read before. The story is a crazy mix of reveal after reveal - Kirsten and Zach's story. Who was Uncle Larry and Aunt JJ? And Teddy? What was the connection? So many surprises. The ending is more crazy action especially when you realize how the pieces fit together. Nice resolution and epilogue. Definitely a book you should add to your summer reading list.
