December 31st
There truly is no holiday like New Years. It doesn’t get as much love and appreciation as it should, honestly. What is more exciting than a year full of possibilities and knowing that it could potentially be the best time of your life? Seriously, there’s nothing like it.
It’s why New Year's Eve is your favorite day of the year. Sure, to some people it’s just another day, but to you, it’s an entire world of opportunity that is laid in front of you, just waiting to be given a chance.
Every year, without fail you would carefully select a resolution that you would try your hardest to make happen within the following 365 days. In your eyes it wasn’t just a superstition, but a sound way to attempt to meet a personal goal, whatever it may be. Getting excited about the year ahead and the challenges and achievements that would happen.
In years past, you had accomplished those resolutions. Getting into a new hobby had been one goal you set in previous years. Deciding that needlework looked like an interesting task and by the end of the year you were a master of it. Every now and then you still dabble in it after a long day of work or school.
Another year was trying to get yourself more comfortable with doing things by yourself. Taking yourself out to a movie, dinner, running errands. Anything that you normally would have tried to find someone to accompany you to, you did by yourself.
It ended up being one of the best years of your life. Doing things you normally wouldn’t have because you were embarrassed. Now, it seemed silly as you looked back on all the missed opportunities from other years simply because you had no one to go with.
This previous year, you decided that your phone was taking up far too much time in your life so setting the goal to four hours of screen time a day whilst also deleting all social media to ensure a good detox was your resolution foundation. You never even missed it anymore. Unsure how you were spending so much of your time on that device was truly mind boggling, but happy with the switch in the end.
Standing in your best friend’s living room, helping her hang a New Year’s banner on her wall, you hummed to the tune playing in the background. “Alright, I’m dying to hear it.” Your brow furrowed, stepping off the arm of the couch, smoothing your skirt back down.
“Hear what?” She rolled her eyes, going to grab a streamer and toss it over the ceiling fan blades. “Your resolution. What is the big goal for the year?” Feeling heat creep up your neck and face, you felt sheepish in your reply.
Clearing your throat, you caught the streamer as it sailed towards you before hurling it back in her direction. “It’s a big one this year.” She eyed you expectantly, exhaling a large gust of breath as you continued on. “By midnight of next year's New Year’s Eve I will be kissing the love of my life.”
Her mouth hung agape, eyeing you in disbelief. “You’re being serious?” Shrugging at her question, you continued tossing the streamer back and forth. “Of course I am. I’ve accomplished all my other ones so why not this one?”
She took the remainder of the streamer roll and sat it down on the counter, eyeing you as she continued on. “All I’m saying is that picking up a new hobby and finding the love of your life are just a tad bit different.”
Your eyebrows wiggled at her, a laugh emitting with it. “No shit sherlock. You’ll see,” as you finished, a knock sounded at the door, signaling the party was just beginning. You were so totally going to prove her wrong. Obviously, you knew it was a big deal, but that didn’t mean you couldn’t do it or had less of a chance to actually accomplish this.
You’d prove her wrong.
December 31st-One Year Later
Okay so maybe you’d overshot just a little bit. You thought that it was going to be possible. Especially with how this previous year had gone. You thought it was going to align the cosmos perfectly.
Instead, the cosmos were now laughing in your face as your best friend hung onto her boyfriend, waiting for the countdown to start. Sitting lonesome in the corner of the party, this was the first year where you truly didn’t feel like celebrating the closure of the year and welcoming the upcoming 365 days with a warm embrace.
Not without him here.
January
New year also meant new semester. Within the first few days of the new year, you would always get your supply list for your courses and go shopping for whatever you would need. It’s why you were standing in the aisle of a bookstore, trying to find a copy of some eastern European novel from the 1980’s.
Sensing the presence of another individual next to you, you made a mental note to not stray into their personal space as you searched for this book. Eyes quickly darting over the figure, his hair was shaved on the sides, an almost mixture of a mohawk and mullet decorating the top and back. His features were sharp, facial hair highlighting them. Clothes basic for the large personality you could tell he was.
The book in his hand caught your attention, perking up at the sight of it. “Oh my gosh, I loved that book. ‘You Are The Universe’ is life altering, seriously. Dr. Chopra is a genius. Have you read any of his other works?” His deep brown eyes settled on you, seeing the overjoyed smile on your face and feeling his own match yours.
“Uh-yes. I have one of his books on meditation, actually.” Your eyes lit up even further. Hand darting out and grabbing his arm much to his surprise, you fell into a quick chatter about it. “I loved his book on meditation! He has a new one coming out this year, oh gosh what was it called? Something about definitive meditation to live an ultimate stress free life. I can’t wait!” He laughed at your excitement, shifting the book to his other hand to offer his.
“I’m Josh.” Your smile held true as you offered your hand and name. His cheeks pinkened as he held eye contact with you, trying to clear his throat as he nodded towards the cafe. “Are you busy at all? I would love to hear about other books you’ve read or studied. Only if you’re not busy, you know!”
Biting back a laugh, you nodded at him. “I am not busy and I would love to chat with you, Josh.” He could’ve melted into the floor right then as your name fell from his lips for the first time. Letting you walk by him first, you led the way towards a free table you had spotted.
You and Josh sat there and talked for hours. Multiple cups of coffee, laughing so hard you could hardly breath, you were enamored with the man sitting across from you. He was animated in his movements and words in a way you had never seen someone else do before. An accent or twang on words you had never heard before. Incredibly handsome features that only became more attractive the more he spoke, face mirroring everything he was thinking.
When the store associate came over to the table you both were seated at, interrupting your conversation, your face burned in mortification as they informed you both that the store was in fact closed and you needed to leave. Both scrambling to gather your belongings, you stood by the front doors and handed a piece of paper to the boy.
His eyes widened in surprise at your number scribbled on the scrap and gave a large, toothy grin. “I had a blast talking with you, Josh. That is my number. Sorry I took up most of your day.” You turned on your heel, waving over your shoulder at him as he stood rooted to his spot in shock. “I’ll call you, okay?”
Giggling, you offered a thumbs up, continuing on our walk to your apartment just a few blocks away. The second you got home that evening, you grabbed your phone, hearing the dial tone echo into the quiet room, waiting for her to pick up.
Her greeting rang out and you spoke quickly. “I think I met someone special today.”
When Josh got home that evening, his twin stood in his kitchen, not an unusual sight to see. He was there more often than at his own residence. Josh was overjoyed to see him tonight anyways. Throwing his stuff onto the sofa, he released a long breath, beaming at his brother.
“I think my life changed today.”
February
Nearly every weekend was spent together. Brunch, park afternoons, finding crystal shops, it was a blast. You had learned a good chunk about the man and felt yourself falling for him uncharacteristically fast. Whether it was his charm, wit, or humor you didn’t know. Perhaps a combination of it all.
The only obstacle you had faced so far was him being a tad protective over personal information about himself. Honestly, you didn’t try to pry too much, but it was the simple things like what he did for a living that was guarded by him.
You understood, not everyone is entirely forthcoming with information and that’s okay. You knew that if you were to ask him, he would tell you. What you did know, you adored. How close he was with his family, especially his brothers. Seriously, they were involved in almost every story he told. Passion coursing through him about music in a way you had never experienced with anyone else. Spirituality being such a large portion of his life.
Josh was a complex and extremely interesting man. It was what continuously drew you into him. Whenever he texted you, you never hesitated to respond and vice versa. If he invited you out, it was almost always a yes unless it conflicted with previous plans although you hadn’t shied away from canceling other plans to see him.
He was doing the exact same for you.
If your name popped up on his screen, it was in his hand in a split second. He always wanted to find activities to do with you, knowing it wouldn’t be hard to entertain you given how similar you truly were. Jake was utterly annoyed at how often he was speaking about you despite his warnings of being careful. Josh didn’t have the slightest worry in his mind.
Not with you.
After a morning spent at the farmer’s market together, you were overjoyed with the items you had found today. Josh’s own tote bag holding goodies he just couldn’t turn away from. “Hey, I want to drop these off at my place, is that okay? It’s super close, just a couple blocks away.”
Your eyes were glued to your screen, but when you looked up at the boy, his smile blinded you. Chatting the entire way to your home, when you opened the door to your apartment, Josh surveyed the area.
“Come in and make yourself at home.” You spoke as you walked the ten feet to your kitchen, setting the bag on the counter. The entire apartment was visible from where you stood. No designated bedroom, just a bed with a sofa at the end facing the television. A small bathroom off the singular room. Decent sized kitchen given the small space, but you didn’t mind.
You loved this place more than anything. It was your home and the first place you could afford to get into by yourself. Who cared if it was small? You certainly didn’t. And neither did Josh.
He toured himself around the space, taking in any information about you that he could. A small gallery wall was next to the front door, images showing a slew of people he didn’t know, but wanted to based on the show stopping smile that adorned your face in each snap. Little knick-knacks were littered on the minimal surface space. Your colorful comforter reminded him of something from the mid-2000’s. The flower shaped rug in the living room and bathroom backed that up.
It screamed you.
Plopping yourself down on the sofa, you watched as Josh continued moving around the space. Being respectful not to touch anything, his arms securely behind his back and joined at the wrists. A permanent smile on his lips, occasionally growing larger at small things he would notice. When his eyes fell to you once again after doing a full loop, he sat next to you.
“I love your apartment. It’s very,” his smile grew softer as did his gaze, “you.” His finger booped your nose as he finished. Your chin tipped up, a large and proud grin placing itself on your features. “Thank you. I love it, too. First place I ever called my own.”
He hummed in thought, eyes never leaving you. It happened within a split second. One moment you had made eye contact with him, the next you were straddling his waist, ingrained in an explosively passionate kiss.
Tongue sweeping over every crevice of your mouth he could reach, desperate to get his fill of you in anyway he possibly could. A light whimper fell from your lips as his hips jutted upwards, quickly hardening cock pressing into the tiny amount of fabric that separates you two.
Dress bunched around your hips, the lacey thong you had opted for today proved to be a good decision. Practically dripping through the white material, he could feel the dampness pooling in between your legs.
When you pulled away from his mouth, a gasp escaping your throat at the sensation of the thrusting of your hips, he took the opportunity to leave his mark on your neck.
Fingers tangling in his locks, you tugged as he cupped your breasts over the fabric of your dress. “God, I’ve wanted to rip this off you all day. Walking around, begging to be fucked in this, huh?”
Nodding feverently, you choked out a response, his thumb brushing over your budding nipple that poked through the fabric. “Yes, please, yes.” You didn’t care how desperate you sounded.
Not when Josh was as rock hard as he was beneath you, feeling every inch pressing into your clothed core. Pulling the already plunging neckline down further, your breasts fell out of the top.
A groan emitted from him at the astonishing sight. “No bra either? Fucking filthy,” he muttered as he took one in his mouth, entire nipple disappearing in between his teeth. Grinding down harder on him, he decided he didn’t want to tease.
Not the first time, anyways.
Switching to your neglected tit, he used his free hand to release himself from the confines of his pants. His weeping head immediately sank into your heat.
Mouth falling open, no sound escaping, you savored the feeling of the stretch. Pussy walls fluttering around him as you sank further and further onto him, he was staggering through his breaths.
Head falling back, his exposed neck was strained, veins popping with exertion. Leaning forward, the tip of your tongue traced up from his collarbone to his jawline, following one singular vein. Placing a chaste kiss at the end, he nearly whimpered.
Starting your movements quickly, his hands held onto your bare hips, fingers indented so deep, it was bruising. Knowing that this was going to finish fast, your pace matched the desperation you both felt.
His encouraging words filled your ears, the lude sounds somehow amplified as you chased your highs. It slammed into you, your body convulsing as you halted, not able to take the sensitivity as the overwhelming finish rocked you.
Josh was only moments after you, pulling out of your cunt despite that being the absolute last thing he wanted to do, but given he wasn’t wrapped and was unaware of your birth control situation, decided to play it as safe as he could.
As you both caught your breath, your hands rested on his heaving shoulders. The post orgasmic glow that decorated his skin made him look like a mythological god as he basked in the warmth.
“Thanks for coming over.” You huffed out with a laugh as his barking one echoed through the small space.
March
Hangs at your place became a regular after that day. Josh would wander over for dinner constantly, spending the night more often than not. You looked forward to those days, where he would show up at your door with either takeout from a new place he had heard about or ingredients for you two to cook together.
It was after another shared night, sweat riddled bodies stuck together, cum painting your stomach after another intense release. He pulled you up, having you join him in your unbelievably tiny shower where he washed away the dirty details of the evening from your skin.
Far too pretty to hold the remanentes of the night on you for longer than necessary. His aftercare was unmatched, always going the extra mile to let you know that the crude phrases and acts he performed on you were never what he truly thought. You informed him that you knew he never meant it, but he swore he needed to prove it to you.
Who were you to fight that?
His hand traced lazy circles on your bare shoulder, on the verge of drifting off to sleep when his voice broke the silence. “Star?” Tilting your head back to get a better view of him, you placed a chaste kiss to the underside of his jaw to let him know you were listening. “Do you want to come over to my place tomorrow?”
Smile growing with a true tiredness seeping into it, you nodded. Snuggling closer to his bare chest, a content sigh escaped him. Excited for what tomorrow would offer. Ready to answer the questions he knew you would have.
This had to be the wrong address.
Double and then triple checking the address he had sent you, you stared at the massive country house in disbelief. It resembled more of an estate than a house. The message stared back at you, Doors unlocked come on in :)
This couldn’t be the house. Wasn’t he the same age as you? You could’ve sworn he said he was. Then what the hell did he do for work? Tech? Trust fund baby? All of these thoughts ran rampant in your head as your legs carried you to the door, pushing open the large wooden piece, and stepping into the foyer.
“Jo-Josh?” Your voice wavered and cracked as you called out. The front entryway alone looked like it belonged in Architectural Digest. You weren’t entirely sure it hadn’t been featured already. His voice carried through the space, calling out to you from a direction you weren’t sure of. The place was so large you thought your ears were playing tricks on you.
Trusting your gut, keeping your hands at your sides, you followed the sounds of music and the smell of cooking to get you to where he was. The enormous kitchen had him looking like a gourmet chef as he prepared dinner for you both. He turned when he heard you arrive, a beaming smile greeting you as he circled the counter.
Lips landing on yours, both hands cupping your cheeks, you barely registered what was happening. “Hello, my stardust. Did you have trouble finding the place? It took you a bit.” He walked back to the stove and you shook your head, terrified to touch anything.
“No, no, I just wasn’t sure I had the correct address. This place is,” you trailed off, eyes scouring the high ceiling, falling to the dining room, “big.” You finally finished, settling your attention back on him. “I thought you were twenty-six?” You spoke before you could catch yourself.
A cackle fell from him as he plated your food. “I am.” Eyes quickly darting up to see your confused face. “Then, what? How?” Josh nodded at your question, grabbing the plates and bypassing the dining room. “Grab those glasses and that bottle. Follow me and I will tell you.”
Doing as he said, you trailed behind him to the outdoor patio, seeing candles all over the space, table decorated for the occasion. Land stretching for miles past the house. Sitting with a large sigh, he leaned back in his chair after taking a bite of his food, seeing you still sitting stick straight, cautiously grabbing your fork.
“It’s a fork, babe, not a diamond.” You felt silly for acting this way, but truly you weren’t sure what you were supposed to be doing right now. He laughed at your stressed expression. “Star, you gotta relax! It’s still me. I’m still, Josh.” Your eyes narrowed in his direction, taking a bite of the food.
Shrugging, you stifled a moan at the taste exploding on your tongue. “I have a feeling I’m about to meet a very different Josh.” His head cocked to the side, watching you, trying to gauge how you were feeling. “Possibly.”
Taking another large bite, you eyed him expectantly. “Well, I’m waiting.” He chuckled before continuing with the explanation you were sitting on pins and needles for. “Remember how I told you I spend a lot of time with my brothers?” You nodded, eyebrows knitting together.
“You guys work together? Like a family business?” You said as you bit into bread. “Kind of.” He replied with a breathless laugh. “We have a band. It’s called Greta Van Fleet.” Trying to understand how that occupation would’ve gotten him this house was still attempting to connect. “You guys are,” placing the words in the correct order was extremely crucial at this point, “successful, then?”
Chuckling at your question, he nodded, chin resting on his hands. “Yeah, I guess so. Millions of monthly listeners on Spotify, multiple tours, we actually just finished our first world tour, a few albums, another coming out soon, another impending world tour,” you laughed, holding your hands up in defeat.
“Okay, okay, I get it. So what do you do?” His eyes narrowed, a playful smirk dancing on his lips. “What do you think I do?” Tongue poking your cheek, you set your utensils down and eyed him in thought. “Honestly?” He nodded, taking a bite of his dinner.
“Well, you have a soundboard guy vibe right off the bat, but I’m guessing that’s not it, right?” He erupted in laughter at your observation, throwing his napkin at you. “You son of a bitch! No, that is not what I do!” Giggles wracked your body as you made your actual guess.
Sighing, you took him in. Knowing his personality better than ever, what kind of aura that surrounded him, the energy he put out into the universe. “Front man. Singer. Showman. Am I right?” His cheeks tinted, pointing at your plate. “Finish your dinner before it gets cold.”
Deciding to tease him, you sipped from your wine glass. “If I do, do I get a show?” Eyes dancing with mischief and badgerment, his jaw set in playful annoyance. “Don’t make me punish you.”
Eyes squinting in his direction, you decided instantaneously how you wanted the evening to go. “Maybe I want you to punish me.” Watching as his jaw set, flexing that muscle in his cheek, your skin set aflame.
Josh had the table swiped clean, plates and glasses crashing to the floor with a loud clatter. “Josh!” You exclaimed, but he had you up right after, face down on the wooden table, dress up, hand connecting harshly with your ass.
His free hand held your face to the table, fist wrapped in your hair to hold you in place. “You want to be punished like the slut you are? I’ll punish you, mama.” Another smack left your unsuspecting ass aching.
Thighs clenching together with burning need, his foot came between your own, pushing your legs wide. “No, you want to play this game, I’ll play. But you don’t win. Only I do.” A whimper left your parted lips.
Underwear yanked down your legs, you hissed as his fingers ran up your slick folds. “God, look at you. What a fucking mess. All for me, right?” Nodding, you struggled briefly against his hold, but to no avail as he didn’t let you move an inch.
Bringing his fingers to your face, you could smell your own arousal coating them. “Clean ‘em,” his fingers shoved into your waiting mouth where you hungrily accepted them, sucking them clean.
“Disgusting,” he chuckled, but you knew he loved it. Josh got off on being the dominant one. Never the one to be incredibly domineering in other aspects of life, he craved it in the bedroom. Having utter control over you in this way was erotic in a way he didn’t know he loved so much. Not until you.
He entered you in one thrust, tip of his cock brushing your cervix instantly. Your body jerked with the motion, causing the table to slightly shuffle on the floor. Standing on your tiptoes, ass facing up the way it was, Josh had never seen a more beautiful sight then this.
Tonight wasn’t about you in the least. Not with how relentlessly he was fucking into you. When you felt a dribble of spit land in between your ass cheeks, an unexpected gasp flew from you.
“I bet you’d let me do anything to you, wouldn’t you? You’d let me fuck your ass if I really wanted to, huh?” You nodded, a chorus of ‘yes’ escaping your parted lips.
His thumb landed on the hole, lightly pushing in. When you clenched around him, he faltered momentarily, almost stopping entirely. “You fucking like that? When I finger you?” Nodding, tears escaped your eyes.
Josh didn’t last much longer. The intense heat of your greedy cunt sucked him entirely dry, emptying out into you in a way he didn’t know was possible. It took him a few minutes to come down from that high, never pulling out from you.
You startled, feeling lips land on the center of your spine. “You’re an Angel, you know that?” Your fucked out face gave way to how gone you truly were. Not entirely sure when you had finished, you could feel it in your muscles.
Standing you both up, he turned you around, pulling your head towards him. Connecting in the sweetest greeting he could offer you, his forehead rested on yours. “Go get the shower going, I’ll bring up water and a snack, okay?”
Eyes fluttering shut, you headed back in the house, Josh watching you in total awe.
He was falling. Fast.
But all you could think of was the fact that he was going to be leaving on a world tour soon and you couldn’t do long distance. You just couldn’t.
April
You had never experienced anything like this in your life. Not even remotely close. Flying first class, having a private car greet you at the curb of the airport, delivering you to a five-star resort where a suite was booked for you, VIP pass waiting on the desk with your name on it. You were in awe.
The hotel room door opened and when you spun around and saw his figure there, you shook your head at him. “Josh, this is insane. I thought I was just coming to watch your show! What is all of this?” Your hands waved around at the enormous living room, but he knew you were talking about the entire experience as well.
Hands landed on your hips, dragging you towards him with a deep kiss planted on you, he sighed into it, almost in relief. “I want your first time seeing us to be memorable. Unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before!” Your frown deepened at his words. “Just coming and seeing you would have sufficed and been more than memorable. This is a lot, Josh.” He could sense your unease with every word you spoke.
Fingertips landing under your jaw, he tilted your head back to look at him. “I wanted to do this for you, stardust. This is to make your trip even better. Just enjoy it with me, yeah?” His persuading tone, the lovey look in his eyes, you couldn’t fight it.
“Yeah, yeah okay.” Literally jumping for joy in front of you, you erupted in a fit of laughter at his sheer excitement. Seeing the small carry-on suitcase that sat on the sofa, he released a large breath you didn’t know he had been holding.
He would never admit it, but your pending arrival had been playing on his nerves. Pressure surmounting in a way he had never felt before. Wanting to impress you in any way he could, he finally understood why his feelings were as intense as they were. You didn’t care about all of this.
No, you just wanted to see him perform. He knew that he didn’t have to do all of this for you and your reaction to it proved that. Making his heart soar, nerves releasing immediately, unsure why he was so on edge to begin with.
Jake had told him that Josh had been driving everyone insane. Ensuring that everything was going to be utterly perfect for their show tomorrow night, spending more time than usual to secure that guarantee.
Slightly dressier than normal, Josh told you that the day before the actual concert, his brothers wanted to go out for dinner to formally meet you. You were entirely freaking out. Not sure how to act around actual celebrities, rockstars, and the like which they all technically were. Telling yourself over and over that if they were related to Josh, they had to be good guys.
The restaurant was packed, but a small corner section of the restaurant was set for a table that had a Reserved sign atop it was exactly where Josh was heading. Being the first ones there meant you got another moment to take a breather, tamping down the nerves that wracked your frame.
Arriving one by one, the tallest of the bunch greeted you both warmly. Immediately pulling you into an embrace, his bright smile was incredibly welcoming. “Ah, we finally get to meet! I’m Danny, only one not technically blood related, but a brother nonetheless. How was your flight out? Have they taken drink orders yet?” He was continuously speaking as he sat down across from you both, grabbing the menu and perusing the options.
Falling into easy conversation, the next sibling arrived, Sam you could tell by the interesting fashion choice for the day. He offered a brief greeting to the group before diving into the plan for the show the next day. They fell into a chatter about it as you sat quietly, taking it all in and trying to understand some of the terminology they were throwing around.
Instantly recognizing the final brother, Jake, you couldn’t fight the grin that took over your face at how similar yet strikingly different the twins were. Jake ignored his spitting image, focusing his attention on you solely, putting the rest of the posse into silence as he spoke.
“Thank god we can finally meet in person. Maybe this will get him to shut the fuck up sometime.” Stunned at his first words to you, Josh reached over you to get to his brother, lightly smacking him in the face. “Sit the fuck down you imbecile.” Jake went to catch his hand, but Danny put his own up between them. “Jesus, we just got here. Everyone sit down. We have a guest!”
You could feel your face burn, not knowing what to do. Josh’s reassuring hand landed on top of your knee, offering a light squeeze. The remainder of the night went off without a hitch, quickly discovering that the behavior you witnessed was normal for this group of siblings. A night spent full of laughter and enjoyment at the never ending stories they had of their eldest brother was endearing to bear witness to.
Tips of his ears burning crimson, cheeks holding a permanent pink hue, embarrassment pummeling him as he could not get them to stop. Once the meal had come to a close, you all left the restaurant, earning a hug from each boy, all offering their kind words of how great it was to meet you and how excited they were for you to see them perform the next night.
Josh and you walked hand in hand back towards the hotel, the crisp evening air still signaling it was spring, summer still a bit off on the horizon. It was a walk that was quiet, but not in an uncomfortable way. Not in the least. Just enjoying the company of who you were with, not pressured to fill the silence.
“Everyone loved you, by the way.” Rolling your eyes at the statement, you gave him a knowing look. “That’s what you have to say.” He laughed at your statement, but tugged your hand back, forcing you to stand with him. “I’m serious! You fit in so well. You should’ve seen the first time we met one of Sam’s partners. It was horribly uncomfortable. Honestly, they love you.”
Feeling a burst of pride, you stuffed it down, continuing to walk as he trailed behind you. “Yeah, they’re not too bad.” His booming laugh echoed off the surrounding buildings.
You had never seen anything like it. The performance they put on was mind numbingly spectacular. Standing in awe the entire time, you wanted nothing more than to experience this over and over again. The fans were so enthralled with the boys it was unlike anything you had ever experienced. Seeing Josh in an element you didn’t know he could get to.
When you caught his wandering gaze going towards your section multiple times throughout the performance, you eventually heard others around you shouting about who he could be looking for, that someone had caught his eye obviously. You played it cool, but the butterflies that erupted within you, you couldn’t fight off.
As the show came to a close, following an encore you didn’t know they opted to do with most of their shows, you were dying to get backstage and see him. When you finally had found your way to where you were supposed to be, sitting in a dressing room waiting for him, you were on the edge of your seat in anticipation.
The door opened and Josh entered the room in only a towel. A bead of water dripped from his pec to his navel, slowly traveling further beneath the plushy material.
Swallowing thickly, the tension in the room was unlike anything between you two. Buzzing around you both, it was incredibly intense. Slowly standing, you moved towards him, sinking to your knees directly in front of him.
His eyes never left yours, on stage presence still clinging to him. The high of the nights performance sizzled on his skin. He put up no fight as you pulled the towel from him. Hard length already greeting you.
Maintaining eye contact, you kissed the leaking tip lightly. He sucked in a shallow breath. Not a single word uttered between you, just accepting him into your waiting mouth.
Eyes fluttering to the back of his skull the further down you sank, when his tip hit the back of your throat, he moaned. The sound vibrated all the way down to his dick, the sensation making you moan.
Hollowing out your cheeks, you bobbed up and down his length, slowly and with intention. Both hands at work, one on the areas of him you couldn’t reach, the other cradling his balls.
When you felt them tightening in your palm, you sucked harder on his tip only, knowing it always drove him over the edge. His cum cascaded down your throat in thick streams of creamy ropes. You didn’t let a drop go to waste, holding him still in your mouth until he decided he was done.
As he came down, bracing himself on the chair to his right, he snapped back into the reality of himself. Your Josh was back. Pulling you up and into his embrace, he instantly began bombarding you with questions about the show.
It was hysterical that the man had just finished in your mouth less than forty-five seconds ago and was now enthralled with how the show had gone.
Only catch was you had to answer as he devoured your pussy like a starved man. You could do that.
You knew that there was still one more day of your trip before you were bound to return home, Josh following only a couple days later, but he had planned a romantic day out for you two. What had been a splendid day spent in one another's company, had ended in sour ruin.
After a wonderful dinner, you two sat in the luxurious hotel room, basking in the attention of the other. “I need to make sure I’m all packed. My flight leaves early,” you sighed out, seeing the permanent smile glued to his face.
The expression on his face had you giggling, pushing hair from his forehead. “What?” He shrugged, doe eyes never leaving you. “Nothing.” You sat up, a smirk gracing your lips, persistent to figure out why he was looking at you that way. “Come on, what?”
“I’m in love with you.”
Breath catching in your throat at his admission, you felt tears welling in your eyes. Jumping up from the sofa, you went to the adjoining room, attempting to occupy yourself so as to not have to deal with this. “Star!” Josh called out after you, hot on your heels as you tried to run.
When you went to the massive closet, grabbing your clothes from the hangers and throwing them in the suitcase, you could feel the tremble in your hands. “What’s wrong? What did I do?” Your eyes squeezed shut, hands braced on the edge of the suitcase, trying to steady your breathing.
“It’s this fucking room. This room is too big! Look at the size of that closet. It’s literally the size of my apartment. This is-is too much. It’s not meant for me,” Josh’s confused look washed over his face, monitoring your hurried movements as you tried to shakily fold a top. “You’re upset about the room?”
Keeping your back turned to him, you went to the bathroom and grabbed your toiletries from the counter. “Of course I am, Josh. Look at this place. I don’t belong in this!” Your hands waved haphazardly around the space, hearing your panicked tone echo off the tiled walls.
“Or you’re trying to find any excuse and reason to not say it back to me.” Your chest heaved at his words. Eyes connecting, your hands still trembled, head shaking ‘no’ as your eyes fell downcast to your feet. The plush carpet that looked like no one had ever walked on it before, soft underneath your bare toes.
His hands grabbed your wrists, the cool touch of his fingers somehow scorched the skin it touched. “We can’t do this, Josh. Nothing has changed,” you sniffled, shuffling your feet nervously. His head shook, getting you to look at him.
“I know, sweet girl. But I do love you.” Your bottom lip trembled, feeling tears start to fall down your cheeks. His thumbs brushed them away, offering a sad smile at your teary demeanor. He sighed, pulling you into a tight embrace.
Returning it immediately, your arms wrapped securely around his torso, crying into his chest. His cheek pressed into the crown of your head, hands rubbing your back soothingly. “I know, stardust. I know.”
Pushing his confession of feelings to the side, you both had decided that despite the intense feelings you had, that remaining friends was going to be the best course of action. For now, at least.
With another impending world tour, you weren’t up for trying the long distance relationship, especially with it being so early in the said partnership. In the meantime, friends were what you had settled on, and that’s what you were going to roll with. No matter how much it killed you.
Josh’s birthday had sprung up just a week and half after your trip. No matter how much you had begged him to let him help you plan the party, he refused. Stating it was a massive surprise for everyone.
He was ecstatic that you were going to be attending and meeting the remainder of the Kiszka gang. You on the other hand were terrified beyond belief of meeting his parents. Of course, since there was nothing romantic happening between you both, there shouldn’t have been as much worry.
You were dead wrong.
The minute you had stepped into the backyard where an enormous tent covered a good portion of his sprawling land, you had been snatched by the brothers and were paraded around to meet any and everyone you possibly could.
You spent so much time mingling with the party goers, you had only briefly seen Josh and that was when he had peeled you away for two brief seconds to adorn your facepaint for the shindig. Even still, he was only able to mutter a quick hello before you were dragged off by someone else.
Exhausted didn’t quite cover it. The party had long since dwindled down, most of the guests having left, but you remained sprawled out on a rug, head propped up by scattered pillows, eyes soundly shut as you listened to the springtime creatures coming out for the night.
A loud sigh startled you from the relaxing state you had just been in, but instantly melted when you realized it was Josh. “There’s the birthday boy. Didn’t think I was gonna get to see you at all today,” your fingers brushed a stray curl from his forehead as he smiled at you.
“Mm.” He responded, eyes shutting as he savored your touch. “Thanks for coming, pretty girl.” You giggled, snuggling closer into his arms. Placing a chaste kiss on his neck, his arms tightened around you. “I’m surprised you haven’t asked for your birthday gift yet.”
His head craned back to get a better look at you, excitement taking over his features. “We already did presents. You know I don’t expect anything from you,” he smiled at you, sweetly in the way only Josh could. The way that set your stomach alight with butterflies.
“Close your eyes.” He sighed, but did as he was told. Eyes slipped shut, his fingers laced together on his stomach, a small smile gracing his full lips.
It was silent for a moment, but when you spoke, Josh nearly choked on air. “Happy Birthday, Joshy.” You were laid there, entirely nude, against some of the pillows that had been set up for the party.
Legs spreading to offer an invite, you beckoned him over with a wag of a finger. “Come enjoy your present, birthday boy.”
May
You did great things for friends all the time. Including spending an entire day with the age group you most despised for charity. Children and you simply did not mix. They were loud, almost always sticky, and to be totally brutally honest, were fairly incompetent.
However, given your best friend is a second grade public school teacher, you would do anything in the world for her. Which is why on the most gorgeous Saturday afternoon you were at the public library, out in the grass field directly in front of the building, reading a picture book to a large group of kindergartners.
“Boy, was she surprised! She didn’t even get mad at me for interrupting.” As you continued to read the book, your eye caught someone towards the back of the group, smiling at him as he watched you finish the book.
The group of kids erupted in clapping as did their parents as you closed the book. Thanking everyone for their attention, you stood and made your way over to Josh. “That was fantastic. I always thought Little Critter books were the high point of literature.” Nodding in agreement, you two strolled over to one of the set up tabletops, placing the book back in one of the bins.
“Oh, I agree. Grew up on them and they taught me everything I know.” Josh nudged you with a laugh, head tipping back in the direction you two had just been. “You were good with them.” You groaned, stopping and observing the large crowds in the area, stuffing your hands in your pockets. “I hate kids.”
Josh choked on his spit before blowing up in laughter. Your giggles mixed with his belly shaking chortles. “Wha-what? I’m serious! I despise kids. I’m only doing this for that lady right there,” your finger pointed at your best friend, but Josh didn’t see her, hunched over trying to catch his breath.
“God, you’re awful.” Josh spoke as he finally calmed down, wiping at his eyes. Your giggles still held as you smiled at him. “Thank you for coming. Really, you didn’t have to.” Shrugging, he pulled his wallet from his back pocket. “I know the only reason you invited me is because I have a checkbook.”
Feigning shock, you eyed the leather. “Wow. What an assumption to make. Not like I wanted to spend the day with my friend. It’s a beautiful day out and I thought we would enjoy each other’s company. It hurts me that you think so lowly of me.” He rolled his eyes, scoffing at your words.
“Okay fine then. If you reached donation caps,” before he could finish the sentence, you grabbed his wallet, heading towards the donation table. “No, no, if you insist!” Josh laughed as he followed after you.
When your best friend appeared at your side, out of breath and stressed, you turned your attention towards her. “God, kill me now. Seriously, please. Some of my students are here and they won’t leave me alone,” as she was speaking through gritted teeth, waving at the group she was talking about, you snorted.
“Hence why I dropped the teaching program,” she shot daggers at you, before realizing who was standing next to you. “Oh my gosh, Josh, right? It’s so nice to finally meet you. This one does not shut up about you. It was so sweet of you to come today. Gosh, you must be a really good lay,” she said as she smoothed down a section of your hair, offering what you knew was a sincere smile.
Your eyes blew wide, about to speak again, but were cut off when she got called away by another volunteer. “And that was someone who speaks their mind without a filter!” You chuckled trying to play off the disastrous first meeting.
Josh laughed in shock, but shook it off. “It was a compliment. Right?” You smiled at him, turning on your heel and changing the subject. “They need us over here!” You called over your shoulder at him, but he wasn’t letting it go.
“It was a compliment, right? Right?”
June and July
It was coming to an end. The times of Josh being around whenever you wanted or needed him. He knew it was coming to a close soon, which is why he was trying to spend more time with you now than ever before.
Laying in his backyard, a blanket underneath you, the sun's rays warming your skin, you felt at utter peace. Josh was seated next to you, scribbling things down in his notebook, humming to an imaginary tone. It was early in the day, having spent another night at his home, Josh told you he wanted to spend the morning outside before it became too hot.
Popping another berry in your mouth, your eyes remained shut, savoring the comfort that was being offered to you right then. Something you weren’t sure when it would happen again.
They were leaving in a week.
This was how most of the month of June had gone. Mornings and nights spent entangled in one another. Sex outside more often than you could count. Trying to be as close to each other as physically possible meant Josh was more often buried deep within you than not.
Not that you complained. It was euphoric whenever you were together, something you had never shared with another being. Especially one as magnificent as Josh. That’s why you knew parting was going to be even more difficult than it should’ve been.
July was propelling through time at such a fast pace, you weren’t sure how time was moving so quickly. In the blink of an eye the fourth of July had come and gone, a wonderful barbecue invitation extended to you from the brothers. All of the days were melting into a blur.
Before you knew it, you were eyeing the packed luggage that was stacked by his front door, wondering where the hell the last six weeks had gone. “Okay, this key is my copy, but while you water the plants and check on the house, it’s yours.” He was running through a checklist, handing you his key, but stopped when he didn’t hear a reply.
Chin resting on the back of the couch, his sad eyes held your own. “I don’t understand how you’re leaving already.” You said with a humorless chuckle seeping into the words. His hand reached out and entangled his fingers with yours. “I know.”
Trying to put on a happier demeanor for him, you blinked rapidly, fighting back the depressed state pushing forward. “But, you will send me pictures and videos from everywhere you go, right?”
Thumb brushing over the back of your hand, he nodded, a smile finally holding his lips. “Of course.” Your free hand came up, making his eyes lock with yours instead of the conjoined fingers. “I expect a souvenir from every stop.” Rolling his eyes, he laughed, but it died in his throat with a heavy swallow.
“Two from every stop.” Sighing, your hand swept the smooth skin, admiring his features in the lowlight of his living room. “I love you,” he whispered out. What could only be described as a heartbroken smile formed on your trembling lips.
A sniffle emitting from you as you nodded. “I know,” his watery gaze met yours, expecting a response. One you didn’t want to give despite feeling it yourself. Knowing that if it fell from you, you wouldn’t be able to get through this period of time with him gone.
“You leave early.” You spoke out, but Josh abruptly stood, hands landing on his hips in anger. “Why won’t you say it back to me?” His pained expression was a solid view of his emotions. Letting your head fall forward, your eyes shut. “Don’t do this, Josh.”
Scoffing at your reply, he began pacing, thinking out loud. “Is it just me that feels this? Am I a loon for saying it to you? Every time I say it to you, I only get that reply back! Do you not love me?” His tone grew more harsh, volume increasing.
“That’s not it,” he looked bewildered at your frame sitting on his couch. “Then what is it? Because I don’t understand!” You stood from the couch, stepping back and letting your emotions take hold of your logical reasoning.
“Just because you say you love me doesn’t change anything, Josh! Neither does me saying it back. Because at the end of the day, you are still going to leave and I’m still going to be here!” Your chin wobbled at your words, trying to catch your breath as Josh crossed the room to reach you.
Pulling you into his embrace, your muffled words fell onto his ears as you sobbed. “I can’t say it and then you leave. I can’t do it,” his hands rubbed your back, feeling regret seep into his bones. “I know, I know. I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have done that. You don’t have to say it back to me. I’m sorry.”
Josh left early the next morning.
July-September
Summer is horrible. It’s too hot out to do anything past nine in the morning, bugs crawl out from the deepest pits of hell, and when you’re getting over a heartbreak, you want nothing to do with the outside world.
There was absolutely nothing monumental that happened over the remainder of summer. You concluded your required summer courses early and decided to take a part-time job at a bookstore to fill your time with something meaningful.
While you spent most of your days sulking around, Josh was having the time of his life on another world tour with his brothers. Or so he portrayed.
He too was miserable without your constant company. It’s why he was texting you nearly every single day with updates on what he was doing, asking what your plans for the day were, and ending as many days as he could with a phone call to you to hear about how your day had been.
Hearing your depleted tone on the phone was destroying him. Despite agreeing to remain friends, he had never struggled with something as much as he did with this. Trying to ask in nonchalant ways if you were seeing anyone whilst he was away. He made it clear to you more than once that he had no interest in seeing other people, but deep down, you weren’t sure if you bought it.
He was a grown man who had the world at his fingertips. Why would he not take advantage of that? Because it was Josh. When he knew that you were at home, he had no interest in anyone else. That was what you had become for him in such a short span of time.
Home.
October
Halloween was a great holiday. As a child, there was nothing easier than dressing as your favorite character from the previous year, walking your neighborhood, and getting free candy. Seriously, what could beat that?
You didn’t care how nerdy you seemed, Star Wars was your favorite alternate universe to indulge in. Your best friend was notorious for throwing the best Halloween parties where everyone would dress up and enjoy the night. This year, your Ahsoka costume was literal movie quality.
Being immensely proud of the work you had put in for this costume, you FaceTimed Josh, excited for him to see you in the full getup. Answering, but the screen being dark, you were ecstatic. “Joshy! Look, look!” Setting the phone on your dresser and stepping back, the closeup of his face was shocked.
“Holy shit! Well, your costume is much better than mine.” You giggled, asking to see his, but he shook his head. “No, the camera won’t do it justice. Just like I’m pretty certain yours looks even better in person.”
When you went to respond, a knock sounded from your front door. “Hold on a second, Josh.” Walking over to the door and pulling it open, you stood rooted to your spot, jaw agape at who was standing there.
“See, I told you, looks so much better in person.” A high pitch squeal left your throat, throwing yourself into his embrace. Savoring the feeling of his embrace, even if it was slightly altered due to his Jedi robes. Still in awe, you pulled back, taking the boy in before diving into questions.
“When the hell did you get here? When do you have to go back? Why are you here? Did you do this for me?” He laughed at the slew of queries, but answered them all. “About forty minutes ago. I had to change in the airplane bathroom, which was not easy by the way. I have a flight out of here tomorrow morning at six to be back for our show tomorrow night. Of course I’m here for you. You think I was going to miss this party and the chance to see your Ahsoka costume in person? You’re crazy.”
Feeling tears well in your eyes, you smiled brightly at him. “This is the best surprise ever. Seriously, Josh, I can’t thank you enough. You didn’t have to do this.” He shrugged, playing it off like this monstrous favor for you was just another day in the books for him.
“Come on, Ahsoka. We have a party to get to.”
November
Why are the holiday’s always so incredibly stressful and busy? They’re supposed to be a time of relaxation and enjoyment spent with family. Yet here you were slaving away for a meal that was going to take less than twenty minutes for twenty people to consume.
You wouldn’t have it any other way though.
Flying home to spend Thanksgiving with your family had been a whirlwind of a time. Between classes, being bombarded with calls from your mother about an updated guest list for the holiday, and the job you refused to quit, you were stretched thin.
So thin, that communication with Josh had been incredibly difficult. His schedule was so hectic and yours was almost never the same day by day, if you could ever catch each other to actually talk, it was rare.
Most of the updates you received were from various forms of social media and even then, they were few and far between.
Standing in your parents kitchen, you poured the chocolate pie filling into the baked crust, trying to scrape the bowl for all its contents when your phone rang out from the counter behind you. Quickly, hitting accept, Josh’s cheery face filled your screen.
“Happy Thanksgiving, stardust!” You smiled, attention on smoothing out the chocolate for it to set properly in the fridge. “Happy Thanksgiving, globe trotter!” As you finished, a timer went off on the stove. “Mom, the turkey!”
Josh’s amused chuckle rang out as your mom hustled into the kitchen. Her attention settled on the screen and her smile grew tenfold. “Hi Josh! Happy Thanksgiving, sweetie. Are you with your family? How’s your mom?” Your face burned as she chatted away with him like old pals.
Grabbing the baster, you spread the juices over the bird as they spoke to one another, entirely ignoring you. Setting the pie in the fridge, you took the oven mitt, moving to place the turkey back in the oven.
“Oh my goodness, you boys are so silly! Your poor mother has her hands full, I’ll tell you that.” You stared at your mom, holding the massive meat and tray in your arms. “Yes, mom and my hands are full as well. The oven door, please!” She jumped realizing the task she was supposed to be doing.
When you turned back to the counter, your eye caught his, earning a wink from him as he spoke out again. “Well, I can clearly see you’re unbelievably busy, so I will let both of you young ladies go. Happy Thanksgiving!” Your moms cheeks burned at his endearing words, your eyes rolling at his cheesiness.
“Bye Josh.” You waved as the call ended. “Gosh, he’s such a sweet boy.”
Smiling to yourself, your mom turned her back, but you couldn’t help but notice your accelerated heartbeat as you thought of him.
“Yeah, he’s alright.”
December
Staring at the gift in pure wonderment, you had no idea how he had managed to do this. A first edition Little Critter book signed by Mercer Mayer with a personal inscription to you sat in your hands.
The package had arrived on your doorstep this afternoon. Christmas Eve had rolled around in the blink of an eye. Josh’s Christmas gift to you had arrived today and he was adamant about you opening it the second you had it in your possession.
Now, you had no idea what to do. “Do you like it? If not, I can get you something else. I just thought-” cutting him off mid panic thought, you stuttered through your own words. “This is the best gift I’ve ever received in my life, Josh. Ho-how did you do this?” His pink cheeks turned a deeper shade at your praise.
“I know a guy who knows a guy. It wasn’t a big deal,” you shook your head, staring at the writing. “It’s a huge deal. I can’t thank you enough. Wow,” blinking away the tears, your bright smile glowed at him. “Okay, open yours!”
Setting his phone up to give you a better view of his present unwrapping, you thought it was utterly adorable at how excited he was to be opening a present. When he pulled the items from the box, his eyes were blown wide, observing the materials with careful hands.
Letting him take a moment to process, his head finally snapped up to see you waiting with baited breath for his response. “Do you like them?” You asked nervously. His head fell back down to the present, no words emitting from him. “I know you have a lot of art supplies, but I researched these and know they’re supposed to be fairly good. Getting them personalized might have been a bad call,” you trailed off, second guessing your decision.
His own design sat on the engraved leather front of the sketch pad. The pencils all had symbols created by him or that held inspiration for him. Paint brushes made of the best materials, wood carved handles with intricate designs.
“I don’t, I just, these are,” he was stumbling over his words, blinking in rapid succession. Trying to piece together how long you had spent researching these items, specifically for him. Picking out each piece must have been meticulous work. Tracking down his previous designs that he had created over the years to create this for him. No one had ever put thought like this into a gift for him before.
He was fairly certain no one would ever again. It was ridiculously stupid how in love with you this man was. He just didn’t know what to do about it.
December 31
The countdown was being shouted by everyone in the room apart from you. Standing in the back of the room, you had never felt so alone. Deciding that resolutions needed to be kept smaller in order for you not to feel like a failure.
In actuality, it had nothing to do with the resolution itself and everything to do with Josh.
It made zero sense how fast you had fallen for him. How well you two clicked. A connection you didn’t know was possible had been kindled between you two. Seared into the depths of your soul, making an impression you would never be able to carve out.
You knew how you felt about him and how he felt about you. That’s why standing by yourself on New Year’s Eve was such a punch to the gut. Knowing you had met the love of your life, but not being able to be with him was torture.
Ten, nine, eight
A shaky exhale of breath escaped your inflated lungs. Burning with an acidity you despised.
Seven, six, five
Not wanting to watch the countdown any longer, your eyes fell down to the floor.
Four, three
An arm wrapped around your waist, spinning you around into their embrace.
Two, one, Happy New Year!
Lips you knew like the back of your hand collided into yours. Streamers, confetti, shouting took up the space around you, but it was like being in your own world. Like it was just the two of you.
“Happy New Year, stardust.” Your glossy eyes held his gaze. “What’re you doing here?” Your voice was weak and strained, fighting the tears that were threatening to fall. “Like I would miss your favorite holiday? Come on, you know me better than that!”
Crushing yourself to him, you uttered a small thank you, but he laughed. “I actually just didn’t want to have to kiss Danny again tonight.” A wet laugh bubbled up as you wiped at your eyes. “Ah come on, give him more credit then that.”
Shrugging, you stared at the man across from you and realized in that instant that you had in fact met someone special almost an exact year ago. Completing a resolution only two days into the New Year had to be a record. “I love you.” Josh nodded, a big Cheshire grin pulling his face taught.
“Oh, I know. You don’t act out a Star Wars fantasy with just anyone.” You were ready to face a lifetime of these types of statements. As long as they were coming from him, you didn’t care.

The Policeman’s Daughter – Part Two
Pairing: Thomas Shelby x Reader
Warning: Mention of Assault, Murder, Fluff, Mild Smut
Words: 2,345
Tumblr media
Birmingham, 12 September 1924
It was Saturday night and seven days have passed since your encounter with Thomas Shelby and you have not heard from him. Perhaps he had changed his mind, you thought. You could understand if he did. He was probably still grieving the death of his wife or perhaps you simply weren’t a match for him.
Over the past seven days, you had learned that Thomas Shelby and his family owned most of the factories and industrial buildings in Small Heath as well as several streets of back-to-back housing.
He must have been a wealthy man with no interest in a common woman like you.
That same night, your father was away for work, investigating two recent murders in Small Heath in a pub called the Garrison and he had left you with two men who were employed by the Crown as security guards.
You felt safe with the men around the house and certainly didn’t expect an intrusion to occur on that night. But you were wrong. You weren’t safe at all. At least so it seemed as, at around 8 o’clock, you heard a knock on one of the windows behind where you were sitting, inside the reading room which was facing the forest.
Your heart began to pound as you turned around and peeked through the curtain only to find that it was Thomas.
Surprised and shocked all at the same time, you quickly opened the window while covering up your skin with a large satin robe.
‘What are you doing here?’ you asked with slight anger.
‘I said I would find you’ Tommy smirked, whispering as he did. ‘Get your coat’ he then instructed, not really giving you a choice to say no.
‘I am not leaving the house with an armed man who I barely know’ you said reluctantly and Tommy raised his eyebrows for a short moment before giving you a smile.
‘Fair enough’ Tommy said, reaching beneath his coat, taking the gun out of his holster and handing it to you.
‘Now you are an armed woman leaving with an unarmed man’ he then smirked and you couldn’t help but chuckle.
You quickly got your coat and boots from the next room, not bothered by the fact that, beneath all this, you would be wearing only a thin nightgown.
Tommy then held the window open and helped you to climb outside while ensuring that you wouldn’t slip on the wet grass.
‘So where are we going?’ you asked quietly, knowing very well that you shouldn’t be going anywhere with this stranger. You didn’t know why, but for some reason, you trusted him. His deep blue eyes appeared honest and comforting in a way and your attraction towards him clearly had gotten the better of you.
‘Just follow me, eh’ Tommy said somewhat reassuringly before taking your hand.
‘My father is a policeman and will get very angry if something was to happen to me’ you said nervously, wanting to ensure your own safety.
‘A copper, eh?’ Tommy said somewhat unbothered, thinking that your father is probably one of Moss’s men and therefore on his payroll.
You simply nodded and then followed Tommy into the woods, nervously and excited all at the same time.
After about fifteen minutes, you reached a small camp near the river and Tommy was quick to introduce you to some of the men, women and children who were there.
‘I thought you might like to be with kin for a change’ Tommy said after he introduced to the Lee family.
‘Your mother used to travel with us when she was young’ a woman named Esmeralda said to you and it was obvious to you that Tommy had told her your name. It was also clear that Tommy had done his research on you before visiting you that night.
You immediately felt comfortable around the Lee Family and spent several hours at the camp, talking, drinking and eating.
Whilst you appreciated Tommy’s gesture, introducing you to the Lees after what you had told him about your life when you met at the orphanage, you also desperately wanted to be alone with him and get to know him better. He seemed to know so much about you while you knew so little about him.
Eventually, Tommy noticed that you were cold, clearly not dressed for the occasion and he finally suggested that you sit down by the fire with him.
‘Go on Tommy Boy’ Johnny Dogs shouted after you as followed Tommy to the fireplace near the river bank.
In response, Tommy swore using gypsy tongue, before telling you to ignore Johnny Dogs. According to Tommy, he hadn’t been accompanied by a woman since his wife Grace had passed away and, therefore, your presence took Johnny Dogs by surprise.
As you finally reached the fireplace and you sat down on of the blankets scattered around it, Tommy took off his coat and placed it over you in order to keep you warm.
‘Thank you’ you said shyly as his blue eyes locked with yours. ‘Now tell me Tommy, how did you know where I live?’ you asked curiously, knowing that you had never told him your address.
‘I simply asked your employer’ Tommy winked and it was when you realised that you just asked him a completely silly question. Of course, he knew your address. The charitable organisation of which he was the founder and chairman had signed your employment contract.
‘You never told me what brought you to Birmingham’ Tommy then went on to say before asking you to hand him the cigarettes from the pocket of his coat.
But, as you reached into the pocket on the right to retrieve his cigarettes, smokes weren’t all you found. In fact, the first thing you inadvertently took out was a small case containing a blue bottle of cocaine and a brown bottle of opium which, without questions, you quickly put back into their place.
‘My father’s work is what brought us here’ you eventually said as you handed Tommy his cigarettes.
‘You said he is a copper, right?’ Tommy observed before lighting himself a cigarette and you nodded before Tommy continued on.
‘What is a copper from London doing in Birmingham? It doesn’t seem like a good career move to me’ Tommy chuckled and you simply told him that he wanted a change of scenery for the both of you and an easier life.
‘Well, I am not sure if he came to the right place then, eh’ Tommy laughed.
‘Why, is there a lot of crime here?’ you then went on to ask and Tommy shook his head.
‘Just the usual brawls you can expect in a town full of working men’ Tommy chuckled before quickly changing the topic.
You then talked for at least an hour about your respective upbringings and gypsy roots and Tommy appeared genuine and kind. It was obvious to you that he felt attracted towards you and, over the hour, you moved closer and closer towards each other, sharing one cigarette after another as you talked for what felt like an eternity.
You sat so close to him that you could smell the scent of his aftershave, a hint of musk and sweetness and it was at this point that Tommy made an admission to you.
‘I have to be honest Y/N. I didn’t just bring you out here to introduce you to the Lee Family’ Tommy said, just as the moment was right.
‘So, what are your alternate motives then Mr Shelby?’ you asked shyly but with a smile.
‘This’ Tommy responded quietly while caressing your face with one of his hands before drawing your face towards his with ease and pressing his lips onto yours.
You gave into the kiss, parting your lips slightly as you did and allowing his tongue to explore your mouth.
His lips were soft and warm and you ran your hands through his hair gently as you deepened the kiss.
Tommy’s hands then moved from your face over your chest and beneath his warm coat, brushing your breasts in the process.
It was at this point you abruptly pulled away and began to breathe heavily. His hands were too close to the scar which carried all your bad memories.
‘Don’t. I am sorry’ you said, your hands shaking as you broke out in tears.
‘Hey, look at me Y/N’ Tommy said calmly, unsure why you reacted the way you did but wanting to calm you down and comfort you.
‘Whatever it is, its alight, eh’ Tommy said, his both cupping your face, making you look at him and nod.
‘I am so sorry. I just…’ you said, looking down at the fire, unable to finish your sentence as tears built up in the corners of your eyes again.
Tommy sat there patiently, telling you to breathe before wiping your tears away with his thumbs.
‘I am ashamed of my body Tommy. I just am not ready for this’ you went on to say and Tommy looked at you, his eyes full of questions.
‘Then we won’t’ Tommy said calmly, his thumb running over your cheek as he smiled at you. ‘Although, you really have no reason to be ashamed. You are beautiful’ Tommy then whispered reassuringly before giving you another quick kiss, intending to leave at this for the night.
‘Yeah, well, you say this now but that might change when you see the hideous scar covering my stomach’ you said rather upset and it was at this point that Tommy stood up, took off his suit jacket and began to unbutton his shirt.
You weren’t quite sure what he was doing and you were slightly concerned about his actions when he suddenly pulled you up and reached for your hand.
‘Count them’ Tommy said as he guided your hand over his bare chest before telling you to reach behind him and run your hand over his back.
‘Six’ you said, swallowing harshly, realising that he had just a few more scars than you which evidentially all came from bullets and stabbings.
‘Seven actually’ Tommy chuckled as your hand left his chest and you took Tommy’s hand and guided it beneath your nightgown and right over your scar.
Your scar was large, covering the right side of your abdomen. But Tommy didn’t seem bothered and simply kissed you again, as passionately as he could and you would allow him.
‘Who did this to you?’ Tommy then asked as your lips drifted apart and it was at this point that you broke down, confiding him about what had happened to you.
You never confided in anyone before and the truth was, you didn’t know why you told Tommy that night. But you felt that it was the right thing to do.
Shortly thereafter, Tommy walked you back home and, just as you reached the house and sneaked past the security guards which, quite evidentially didn’t do their job, Tommy kissed you again, gently but yet passionately.
‘Can I see you again?’ he then asked and you nodded shyly.
‘I didn’t think you would want to after tonight’ you said somewhat embarrassed about how things had ended.
‘You have no idea, do you?’ Tommy chuckled just as one of the security guards came walking around the house.
Without his coat and gun, Tommy kissed you goodbye in a rush before disappearing into the night, ensuring that he wouldn’t get caught.
‘Everything alright Miss?’ one of the guards asked, curious as to what the noises were which he had heard.
‘Yes, just two rabbits out and about. So cute’ you said as you stuffed Tommy’s coat and gun beneath the blanket on the sofa while looking out of the window.
‘Rabbits?’ the guard asked.
‘Yes, the small animals with the big ears and the fluffy tail’ you said.
Birmingham, 17 September 1924
Following your evening at the river with Tommy, you hadn’t heard from him for days and thought again that, perhaps, he had changed his mind.
But he didn’t and, on the morning of the 17th of September, you received a telegram, delivered to your house along with the daily newspaper your father had ordered.
With a cup of coffee, you sat down in the reading room, opening the telegram.
****
‘Y/N,
I ensured that this telegram would only reach you in your father’s absence.
Meet me tonight, at 8 o’clock. Your father will be busy and security will be taken care of. I will be waiting for you outside the gate of your property’
Tommy’
****
After you read the telegram, you couldn’t help but smile while a feeling of warmth and butterflies rushed through your body.
Nonetheless, you were surprised by his influence. How did he know that your father would be busy and how would he take care of security, you wondered?
But those thoughts soon left your mind when you opened the newspaper and read the headlines.

Judge dead in house explosion
Judge Kent has died along with his 24-year-old son in what appeared to have been a house explosion caused by two hand grenades.
Mysteriously, their death occurred just an hour before two killings in a London Nightclub in which another two men had been shot. This also appeared to be a targeted attack.
The two men identified as Jonathan Cohen and Lucas Cohen, friends and acquaintances of the Judge’s Kent’s son who, several years ago, escaped charges for assault.
Whether the murders are linked is yet to be determined and no arrests were made.

I See You
Idol: Lee Gahyeon (Dreamcatcher)
Anon: saw u say criminal lack of gahyeon requests so thought i'd try? maybe 8th member reader always babying the maknae? gahyeon loves the attention but also gets kinda sad+worried reader will never see her as more than that, so tries ways to make reader notice her as the grown woman (with a crush) she is. bonus could be a fellow unnie line member exasperatedly telling reader that none of them look at gahyeon like That, or in some way knocking sense into her about her [obvious] feelings. thank uuu <3
A/n: this was so long ago and i wanted to write got Gahyeon so bad but only managed this now i am so sorry

Tumblr media
It was rare for the dorm to be as peaceful as it was now. Typically, two or three of the members would be running around, laughing or teasing, in Bora’s case, the other members just to have a bit of fun.
But right now, it looked like the dancer was out to visit her family whilst Minji went to her own home. Siyeon explained that she wanted to go out and do something fun, prompting Yoohyeon to tag along when she asked if they could head to the arcade. Handong and Yubin were the only ones aside from you and the maknae that were left in the dorm, doing your own things and just resting before your schedule would start to be full of practices and recordings.
“Aren’t you bored, Gahyeon?” Said girl looked up from her position, her head resting peacefully against your chest as your fingers gently ran through her soft locks, soothing her more than she already was as she hummed. “Not really. We’re always so busy, so it’s nice to have some time for ourselves.”
There’s a quiet cough somewhere and Gahyeon’s eyes immediately land on Handong as she gives her a look that made the maknae’s face flush red before she looked away and buried her face to your chest, making your other arm wrap gently around her waist just to keep her close.
“That’s true. I hope you aren’t wearing yourself out. You know I worry a lot about you, kiddo.”
Kiddo.
As endearing as it was, Gahyeon couldn’t help the pout on her lips and the way her cheeks puff up as she nodded her head just so you couldn’t see her face.
Yubin raised a brow at the display and Handong simply shook her head with how Gahyeon sulked in your arms without you even realizing just how infatuated the younger girl was of you.
A lot of times they wonder if you didn’t really reciprocate the maknae’s feelings and were just being too nice to reject her, but often times, they could tell that you were just as dense as a brick and that it would take hitting you with one with a confession written on it to know just how badly the dark haired girl was smitten with you.
Basically everyone in the dorm could see the heart eyes thrown your way and Bora was ready to tear her hair out with just how hopeless you both were.
It was frustrating to say the least.
By the time everyone else arrived at the dorm, they were all surprised to see both you and Gahyeon fast asleep on the couch, legs tangled together while you held the maknae safely in your arms while her face ended up tucked under your chin.
Bora was about to make a comment, but Siyeon had covered her mouth in time when she saw the look on her face and Minji quickly whipped out her phone to steal a few pictures.
“They’ve been like this for majority of the day.” Handong informed the late comers and Yoohyeon gently put her bag down. “Did they finally...?” Yoohyeon looked hopeful as she turned to the two, but with a shake of Yubin’s head, her lips formed into a pout while Bora sighed in exasperation before she pushed Siyeon’s hand away from her face. “Of course not.”
Minji looked to the two of you and chuckled before she turned to the rest of the group. “Leave them be. As tiring as it is to wait around, how about we get started on dinner and fix up?”
“But I’m tired!” Siyeon complained while taking a seat, raising her legs to rest against the armrest before the eldest gently spanked one of her feet when the younger girl tried to flail them around. “Come on. Sua and I will be in charge of the kitchen so there’s four of you to help each other out.” The leader reasoned and they knew that there was no escaping.
“Maybe I should go to sleep, then maybe I don’t have to clean up, too.”
The glare from Bora made the wolf shut her mouth and pout before begrudgingly heading off to place her things in her room and then proceed to clean up, the others following after her as Minji headed for the kitchen to get started with the dinner preparations.
With the girls bustling about the dorm, they made sure not to disturb either you or the maknae even with the amount of times Siyeon was tempted to do so. You eventually wake up to the smell of kimchi and the sound of footsteps going about, accompanied by the occasional clanking of pans and utensils.
“Well, well, well, look who’s awake.” Yoohyeon said teasingly as she threw away the tissue she had used to wipe the juice she accidentally spilled. “What time is it?” You question groggily, rubbing your eyes with one hand while your other arm stayed wrapped around the girl still fast asleep next to you.
“It’s a little past six-thirty, unnie.” Yubin answers as She and Siyeon set up the table and you look over to Gahyeon, smiling as you tuck her hair behind her ear before slowly getting off the couch so as to not wake her from her peaceful slumber.
The action, however, does not go unnoticed by your members present in the room with you.
“Is there anything I can help with? I didn’t realize we were sleeping for so long.” You offer just as Bora walked in, placing the bowl of kimchi rice on the table. “Just wash up. We’re almost done, you can wake Gahyeon after you finish.” She informed you and you nod obediently before heading to your and Yubin’s shared room.
A light chuckle from Handong made the others shake their head while the two eldest looked over in confusion. “What?” Bora asked and Siyeon took a seat while shrugging her shoulders. “Just Y/n being Y/n while Gahyeon is sleeping.”
..
Watching from the corner of the room, the maknae let out a heavy breath as she watched you practicing with Minji and Handong. It was in these that she just couldn’t help as her admiration for you came out. Despite your sweaty and tired looking figure, you were still bright and full of life.
“Why don’t you just tell her?” Startled, Gahyeon looked over to find the big puppy watching the three of you as well, a drink in her hand as she took a seat and the younger girl pouted. “It isn’t that easy. What if unnie doesn’t even like girls?” She countered, making the latter scoff.
“Unnie accepts proposals from female fans more than male fans. She’s also been very expressive about how she supports the community, so I doubt that she would be upset with you if she ever doesn’t feel the same.” Yoohyeon explains, yet it didn’t seem enough to convice her friend as she watched you with a wistful look across her face.
“But she just sees me as a friend. There’s no way she feels the same.” She said with a deep sigh and Yoohyeon rolled her eyes before shaking her head, knowing that whatever she tried to say, the younger girl would find a way to prevent herself from hoping that her feelings would be reciprocated.
While Gahyeon watched you pour your energy into the choreography, the sharpness in your movements and the fierceness in your expressions, it made her think just what was it that she needed to let you know that she liked you more than just an unnie.
This time around, your hair was dyed blonde, similar to Siyeon’s, while Yoohyeon and Minji both had red hair. The music video turned out more interesting than any of you thought it would be, and Gahyeon was sure she was even more smitten with you when she watched you acting throughout.
“That’s it!”
Yoohyeon was startled by the maknae’s sudden outburst and covered her ears. “Yah! Lower your volume!” She scolded, but the latter was too excited when she started to shake the big puppy’s arm. “I know how to get unnie’s attention!” She proclaimed and the latter had no choice but to listen, earning Siyeon’s attention when she looked over.
“What are you talking about?” The main vocalist questioned as Gahyeon grabbed her phone. “Unnie babies me because I let her. Then all I have to do is to make her think otherwise.” The pair blinked as the maknae began to look through some of the past conversations she’s had with you on Kakao.
“I don’t think-”
“Let her be. I think it could work.” Siyeon quickly cut the taller woman off with a wide grin, excited to run off and tell Bora about what was about to happen while Yubin was sure to shake her head in disappointment, but that just made this another typical day with Dreamcatcher.
..
Once practice was over, you groan while plopping on the ground, towel draped over your face as you let your arms sprawl on your sides. Handong takes a seat by you, laughing as she nudged your leg, making you pull at the towel to look at her. “You shouldn’t be laying on the floor or you’re going to get sick.” The older woman stated, but you huff before rolling on your stomach to look at her.
“I’m tired.” You whine at your Chinese friend. “Unnie is right though. You shouldn’t lay on the floor like that.” The maknae walked up to both of you, handing you bottles before you thank her and take a large gulp.
“How are you not tired, though? This choreography is torture!” You ask, wide eyed as you set the bottle down and Gahyeon puffs her chest proudly. “This is nothing! I guess all the practices have made me more comfortable with our dances.” She boasts, making Handong’s brows raise because she remembers clearly how the younger girl kept whining about how sore her legs were whenever they were in their room.
But before she could call her out for it, you were already sitting up, eyes shining as you beamed at the maknae. "That's good to hear! I'm so proud of you!" You cheer while reaching out to ruffle her hair affectionately, making the girl groan before lightly pushing your hand away despite wanting to just snuggle against it.
"Unnie, come on, I'm not a kid anymore." She tells you when you laugh. "I know, I know. Sometimes I'm honestly surprised with how much you've grown. I'm happy to know that you're becoming a responsible and independent woman." You tell her before Handong could see the way the maknae's cheeks flushed red at your comment and a laugh bubbled from her throat when you checked your phone as it vibrated.
Gahyeon felt her stomach drop when your face lit up to see a text from someone and you checked around before calling for your leader. "Unnie, can I leave early today?"
"What for?"
"Yeeun just texted me and she was asking if we could hang out. Apparently they just finished their schedule." You inform them and Gahyeon immediately felt panic swell up in her chest when she notices the excitement in your tone. "I guess you can. We only need to polish a bit more, so we can most likely finish sooner."
Gahyeon silently watches as you text the other rapper, envy and disappointment coursing through her veins before you were hopping to your feet and appearing to be filled with newfound energy, enough to make her pout because she knew that she was your energy pill.
“I’ll go with you. I’ve been meaning to catch up with Elkie.” Handong piped up and you nod your head. “Let me tell her.” Gahyeon looked at the Chinese woman in distress before she shrugged her shoulders, not knowing what she could do.
Eventually, you were able to finish sooner like Minji said and both you and Handong prepared to meet with your friends. “See you later!” You waved after tying your hair and then grabbing your favorite cap. “Be safe!” Bora called out. “Have fun! Bring home food please.” Yubin added and you throw her a playful grin before exiting, missing the defeated look on the maknae’s face as you did.
..
While you and Handong walk to the restaurant Yeeun told you about, the latter lightly bumps your shoulder with hers. “You and Gahyeon have been really clingy lately.” She teases and your smile widens subconsciously as you shake her head. “I’m clingy with everyone. You know I love Gahyeon a lot, just like you and the others.”
To further prove your point, you cling to her arm and press the side of your face against it.
The brunette laughed as she shook her head and held your hand. “I know that, but it feels like you have a lot more love to give.” She explains while looking ahead and you blink in confusion before she glanced at you. “Oh, don’t look at me like that. It’s been obvious that you like Gahyeon.”
“What do you mean? Of course I like her! What’s not to like?” You shot back, confusion laced in your tone and Handong had to stop as she stared at you in disbelief. “Are you being serious?” She questioned and you stood like a deer caught in headlights.
Handong let out a sigh before pinching the bridge of her nose as she urged you to keep walking. “And I thought we were making progress with you.” You whine at her comment, asking what she meant, but the older woman says nothing until you reach the restaurant and locate your friends at a table.
“Unnie! It’s great to see you again.” Yeeun stood to hug both of you before she stepped away and Elkie did the same. “I feel like we haven’t seen in forever.” She jokes and you all sit down. “We’re going to be seeing each other a lot during promotions, so you’re going to get tired of us soon enough.” Handong shot back with a laugh.
Yeeun turned to you with a wide grin, patting your hand excitedly. “You have to tell us what’s going on with you! The last time we met, we didn’t get to talk much. How are you and Gahyeon?” She fired off question after question and you laugh whilst your member rolled her eyes. “Gahyeon and I are fine, we’re getting ready for the comeback, so we’re kind of busy.”
However, your answer wasn’t enough to satisfy the younger woman’s curiosity. “Oh, come on, no need to be so modest, unnie. Are you guys finally going out?” You were surprised by Elkie’s question and shook your head, your cheeks turning pink as you waved your hands, laughing in embarrassment.
“What are you talking about? Gahyeon and I aren’t dating.” You tell them, much to their disappointment, and Handong lets out a sigh. “Y/n is too dense to notice anything.” She stated while the two CLC members looked at you. “But we’ve been talking about it for so long already! How are you not catching up?”
“Look, I love Gahyeon and I admire her a lot, but that doesn’t mean I like her that way.” But none of the three seem convinced, Handong even hitting your arm. “We’ve seen the way you look at her and I’m honestly amazed she hasn’t told you yet.”
“You’re such an idiot, unnie!” Yeeun groaned as she laid her head on the table and you give her an offended look. “Yah! What did I do?” You ask them while Elkie chuckled and shook her head, turning to her friend. “You weren’t joking about her being dense as hell.”
“I’m right here.” You intervened and Handong waved you off. “If only you were this attentive to Gahyeon’s feelings.” She shook her head while the other two pouted. “I feel bad for her, now. It must be so frustrating.”
“Come on, Y/n. You keep saying that, but let’s face it. None of us look at Gahyeon the way you do, and we don’t shower her in the same amount of affection that you do. You also aren’t as affectionate to others like that.”
Elkie nodded her head in agreement as Yeeun grinned at you. “We’ve seen videos and we’ve also seen you behind the cameras. Handong unnie isn’t wrong.” She claimed while you sat there, completely dumbfounded.
Have you really been blind this whole time?
Of course you treated Gahyeon with as much care as possible and babied her, but that was because she was the maknae of the group and you had always felt the need to look after her.
Though that didn’t change the fact that you would always look for her when she was absent and constantly want to be close.
“I think we broke her.” Yeeun said worriedly as they all looked at you while you started to stare a hole into the table. “I really must be stupid.” You groan while burying your face to your hands and the other three burst into laughter at your state before your member patted your back. “That’s alright, we already knew that.”
Later when you get back to the dorm, Handong goes to the bathroom to freshen up while you quietly made your way to the sleeping maknae, brows pinched together as you saw her peaceful face.
“How long were you planning on waiting for me to say something?” You whispered while gently brushing her hair back, smiling at how her body instantly reacted to your touch. “I promise, I’ll make it all up to you in the morning. I hope you sleep well, princess.”
Right before you could get off her bed, you feel a small tug at the back of your shirt, followed by a tiny voice. “You already made me wait this long, are you really going to make me wait longer?” She asked sleepily, pout evident on her features before you giggled and leaned down to kiss her forehead.
“I’ll ask you properly when you’re awake.” But she shakes her head in protest, her eyes fighting to stay awake as she kept her hold on your shirt. “Ask me now.” And you couldn’t help but coo at how adorable she was.
“Gahyeon-ah, I’ve been a big idiot but I hope you know that I really like you, too. And if you don’t mind, I’d like to take you out sometime?” The corners of her lips quirk up and she nods her head, satisfied. “Okay, but can you sleep next to me tonight?” She asks. “I want to cuddle you after you left with Dong unnie.”
And honestly, who were you to deny her that? Especially when she looked too cute for her own good.

i’ll never be ready
Summary: when you've been taken by the recent unsub, you both come to a shocking realization.
TW: torture, self-hatred (derek, spencer), scars, noah (the sucky date guy), angst, fluff if you squint. let me know if i missed anything*

————————————————————————
saying the case was rough was under kill-which, ironically, was opposite of the unsub's mo. everyone had nearly lost count of how long they had been awake. 36, maybe 38 hours of nonstop work? going over case files and reviewing them for something - anything you might've missed. it all seemed a bit pointless because each time you reread a file you felt your eyes dropping down, threatening to betray you and make you succumb to the sleep.
"y/n," hotch spoke. "you've been up the longest. go back to the hotel with derek and get some rest. be back here in 5 hours," he demanded in a soft tone.
"won't argue with that," you chuckled best you could before morgan grabbed the keys, ushering the two of you to the car.
your hotel room was a few doors down from morgan's. he bid you goodnight before he opened his door, allowing you to continue on to your room. you decided to get a bottle of water - the sleep deprivation probably making you feel more dehydrated than you actually were.
after you paid for the bottle, you took a swig of it and trudged on to your room. only, you didn't make it. it felt as though the sleep you yearned for had finally taken over as it was accompanied by a throbbing migraine in the back of your head.
-
"what's taking them so long?" emily asked, looking at hotch for answers.
l"i'm not sure. i told them to only be gone for fi-" he was cut off by morgan slamming into the police station.
"she's gone," he uttered plainly, worriedly as he avoided any eye contact with the rest of the team.
"what do you mean 'she's gone?'" jj argued, feeling the worry bubble up inside of her as morgan continued talking.
"i knocked on her door to let her know that we had to leave. i-i thought she might've just slept through her alarm. but then she never answered," his eyes finally met someone on the team's. "i kicked through the door and the bed -it-it wasn't even slept in. i'm so sorry," he mumbled to that particular team member.
spencer felt his heart drop in his chest. he wasn't angry, per say. he was furious. he was frustrated and confused and wanted to hit something - someone. but not morgan. he wasn't mad at morgan. it wasn't his fault you were gone. at least that's what he thought until Garcia pulled up the footage from 6 hours ago.
the image of derek going inside his room, allowing you to wander past yours and retrieve the water before walking halfway back to yours, only to be hit over the head, was the only thing he could see. and what he did see... well, what he saw was in red.
"you didn't even walk her to her room?!" spencer accused derek.
"kid, we were all tired. i'm sorry, i really am," he pleaded with the young man.
"don't 'kid' me! 'sorry' won't bring her back! we know what this guy does to people and you didn't even make sure she was safe!" spencer walked closer to derek. "i can't believe you. we all had a discussion about how she was the unsub's type. you knew that and you still let her get taken," he poked his finger in his chest.
"i didn't let her do anything. i didn't want this to happen, reid," morgan tried to calm him down, only for them to be interrupted by jj coming into the room, asking for spencer to come with her before promptly leaving derek by himself. "i-i swear, babygirl, i didn't think th-"
"that's the problem, derek," she cut him off. "you didn't think," she said in a calm, sweet tone. "i love you, i truly do, but even when your guards are down when you're tired... you need to think."
"i know... i know. i don't- i don't know what to do now," he wiped the tears from his eyes.
"now you go be the hero i know you are," garcia smiled before signing off, leaving derek staring at a blank, black screen.
-
"look who's up," the unsub sang as you turned your head whilst lying on the cold, steel table. "before you try anything, there's no point in fighting. you're strapped down with reinforcements and the room is sealed with a steel door that can only be unlocked with my key."
"so what? should i just let you do whatever you want to me?" you scoffed as you rolled your eyes, observing the state of the room.
it wasn't very clean. it was dirty and grungy and the smell was absolutely horrid. you nearly gagged upon looking to the corner of the room, seeing an abundance of takeout and old pizza boxes - clearly old and moldy.
"that'll happen regardless, sweetheart," he brushed a strand of hair behind your ear, humming as he did so. "such a beautiful girl, truly," his hand travelled further south, grasping your neck tightly with the one hand before he brought a second one up to join it.
you stared him in his hooded eyes as he strangled you gently. you didn't make a show if it - that's where he got off. you wouldn't give him the satisfaction. although you would have to throw him a bone so he wouldn't kill you.
he was a sexual sadist. he got the relief from your pain and struggle. he would keep at it until you gave him what he wanted - your pain.
the profile had revealed that the unsub had a history of hatred for women from his own mother - who was most likely abusive. it was assumed that his father left at an early age and his mother blamed him for his departure.
"damnit!" he slapped your face, relinquishing his grip on your throat to allow you to breathe.
"what? can the big-strong-tough-guy not get off?" you mocked him, another slap hitting your face.
"shut UP!" he shouted at you. "when i get back you better be more cooperative," he spat out before grabbing a duffel bag and leaving.
a sigh of relief left you when the doors shut, hearing the deadbolt latch lock to signal you were stuck. you wriggled your wrists around, noticing they were bound by leather straps, as were your ankles.
-
"alright," hotch began as they gathered in the makeshift conference room, "so he has a 12 hour lead on us with her. we've profiled that the unsub keeps all the women at the same location. it'd be too difficult to move them with all the equipment he uses on them..." he looked towards spencer as he spoke, wanting to make sure he was alright.
"this has to be a power assertion move," emily added.
"you're right," rossi agreed. "taking a fbi agent would make him arrogant."
"so maybe he'll screw up? maybe we could find her?" spencer lit up at the brief sight of hope.
"don't get too excited, we still need him to make that mistake. but, yes, there's hope," hotch agreed.
penelope appeared all too sudden on the laptop screen, looking rather worried before she announced, "i'm gonna send you the video that just appeared on every screen in my bat cave. just... be prepared."
and then you were there.
you were strapped to the table, your shirt cut open to reveal your skin to the screen. the camera seemed to be hovering above the bed, focused on your body and the marks that already adorned it. you had a hand-shaped bruise on your trachea; a bruise on your cheekbone underneath your eye was contrasting your pale skin. the gag in your mouth held it open in what seemed to be an uncomfortable position. you looked tired. reasonably so, you never did get that proper rest you wanted.
and spencer would never get to tell you what he wanted if you couldn't make it out of there alive.
he never thought of you as anything but a friend but now that there was the possibility of you not making it back to him, he couldn't help but feel different about you. his heart was aching and he knew it would never stop until he was able to give it to you. now, he knew he wanted to hold you as more than a friend. he wanted to dance with you romantically rather than a silly platonic friendly thing. he wanted to kiss you, and tell you that he'd never leave you alone again. he just wanted you.
"look at how pretty she is lying there on the table," a voice that was off-screen cheered out. "although she's always quite the hottie, isn't that right... spencer? was that the name you told me, agent?" he grasped your chin, forcing your face to contort as you tried to wrangle yourself free from his grasp. "it was, wasn't it?" he laughed before releasing your face.
your eyes welled with tears upon the realization that the team might not make it to you on time. you had tried to put up a fight - you swore you did. but you could only fight so hard for so long. the light left your eyes in the form of tears streaming down your face, leaving them on display for your own team to mourn with you.
"looks like he won't be saving you, after all," he chuckled as shuffling was heard from over the screen. "let's see if they like the show, huh?" he brought a knife from out of his bag before removing the gag from your mouth.
"turn it off! turn it off!" you begged. "they-they don't need to see this, hudson," you revealed his name.
"hudson was the deputy that went home 13 hours ago. he was the one that gave us the files and intel on people in town. i guess he didn't actually go home," reid reminded the team.
"shut up, BITCH!" hudson wiped the knife down your right arm, a light hiss leaving your mouth from the intrusion.
"how about we get something to eat, yea? order some more jonny's pizza?" you emphasized before the knife went back into your skin, this time on the other arm.
"jonny's pizza is in a neighborhood only 10 miles away from here. hudson might own property near there. garcia?" spencer announced once more.
"on it," penelope declared before working her magic. "it says here that hudson's family owns an old restaurant that was shut down three years ago. it was passed on to him once his mother died. i'm sending the address your way."
"morgan, you're with me and emily-"
"i'm going with you," reid interjected.
"are you sure you're in the right-"
"i have to see her. i have to... i have to make sure she's okay," spencer tried to reason. hotch sighed before nodding his head in agreement.
they brought an ipad with them so they could watch as they traveled to the location. your arms were bleeding, but he had avoided the major arteries that would've killed you. your sobs wracked through the device, shattering spencer's heart more than he thought possible.
when they got to the restaurant, there were wooden boards surrounding every entrance. they left the sirens off in hopes to not scare the unsub into killing you.
"fbi!" morgan did his classic entrance, kicking the door in promptly. "hudson williams! fbi!" he led the team to the back of the room where a large, steel door rested.
spencer and hotch went to the sides of morgan, nodding at him to continue before he kicked the door in. the three, followed by more swat members, flooded inside the room quickly. spencer's eyes locked on yours as you lay on the table, looking sideways to see him. he saw the tears flow from your eyes as the unsub swung his knife up into the air, intent on stabbing you once more, this time fatally. spencer could swear he saw you mouth something to him before a shot rang through the air.
he looked to his side to see morgan had fired the shot that killed hudson, his knife falling beside your body as your body began shaking with sobs.
"let me go! let me go ple-please! get these off!" your arms struggled at the restraints before spencer holstered his gun, running to your side to work at the leather bindings.
"i'm here," he undid your wrists before you wrapped them around his neck, burying your face in his shoulder before sobs overtook you. "you're safe now, you're safe," his hand stroked the back of your head as you cried into his skin. "here," he pulled back momentarily before he shrugged off his vest and cardigan, handing you the cardigan to pull over your body.
"thanks," you sniffled as you pulled it tight over your body, covering your exposed state before embracing spencer once more, pulling him as close as you possibly could.
"i'm never letting you go again, y/n," he whispered before placing a kiss to your hairline. "never."
"good," you responded before he took you in his arms, carrying you to the ambulance that made it's way to the restaurant soon after they did.
you were severely dehydrated. the lacerations on your arm caused you to lose a lot of blood. you had a concussion. but you would be okay. you were alive. by some miracle, you were alive. you were alive and he'd never let you out of his sight again.
the entire time you were gone, you couldn't stop thinking about spencer. i mean, yes, your team entered your mind but not as much as spencer. who did you cry out for when he would hurt you? spencer. where would you go to distract you from what was going on? spencer's arms. spencer was the answer to all of your problems. it was spencer.
"spencer?" you asked as your head was resting on his shoulder, his arm wrapped around your shoulders as a mild attempt to keep you warm.
"yes?" he turned his head down to face your droopy face.
"i..." you stopped once you realized what you had planned on revealing. "please don't leave?"
"i won't," he gently took your chin in his hand, lifting your face up to see his. "i promise."
you nodded your head contentedly, satisfied with his answer. you couldn't say anything about how you felt now of all times. you needed him, as selfish as that seemed. you needed him to lean on as a crutch right now. telling him how you feel is risky. he could run away and distance himself from you once you open your mouth. so instead, you'd keep it shut.
as the weeks went by, your wounds healed. your heart tried to mend itself as time went on, but the process wasn't as smooth as it was with your external wounds. it was a rollercoaster process. you tried to convince yourself that you didn't love spencer. each night when he would come to your house to check up on you and watch a tv show or movie, you allowed yourself to imagine a life with him. a life where you didn't have to hide your feelings from him.
and spencer thought that telling you right after might've brought on too much stress for you. he thought it would be selfish to tell you such a thing after you nearly died. so, he pushed his feelings down as well.
and then penelope happened.
she had set you up on a date with one of sam's friends from counter-terrorism. you didn't really want to go, but you felt bad enough after skipping all of the girls' nights once you got abducted. so, you had gotten ready.
you wore a long-sleeved blouse and a skirt, the sleeves to avoid a conversation with a stranger you truly weren't ready for. to be honest, you were dreading whatever would happen tonight. you had mentioned the date to spencer, telling him how you didn't even want to go anywhere; you weren't ready to go out in public by yourself yet. he wasn't excited for you, who would be after you confessed your hesitance on going anywhere.
"i'm heading out now, spence," you walked out of your bedroom and into the kitchen where spencer was standing, waiting for you to get ready.
"al-alright," he nodded before turning towards you. "you look... you look beautiful, y/n," he sighed, making you blush lightly.
"thank you," you went to give him a hug, wrapping your arms around his torso. "for everything," you kissed his cheek before pulling away. "i don't think it'll be that long, i hope it's not that long," you chuckled before continuing, "so i'll see you after?"
"uhm, yea," he agreed. "i'll see you later."
you sighed before grabbing your keys and leaving, driving to the restaurant penny had told you to go to. it had only been two months since your abduction. you hadn't been anywhere without someone with you, most of the time it was spencer. you parked the car, grabbing your purse from the passenger seat and placing it in your lap.
you shouldn't have come. you shouldn't have done anything. you should've stayed with spencer. you should've let him know how you felt. you should've...
you felt tears well in your eyes before you pushed those thoughts down. you took a deep breath to compose yourself before you walked into the restaurant. you were led to the table noah miller would be at by the host.
"hi," noah greeted you.
"hi," you tried your best to muster up a smile as you sat down.
"uhm, penelope mentioned how beautiful you were, but i think it was severe underkill," he chuckled,
"oh, wow, thank you," you smiled. "you look pretty great yourself," you motioned. there was a moment of unsettling silence before you continued, "i haven't been out in a while. so, be patient with me tonight."
"sam mentioned that you went through something... an abduction, i believe?" you nodded your head. "that is beyond cool. do you... do you have any scars?" his eyes widened at the thought.
"ex-excuse me?" you furrowed your brows at the question.
"do you have any scars from the abduction?" he asked once more as if he didn't sense what was wrong with it in the first place.
"you... you're seriously asking to see the scars from when i was almost killed?" you scoffed before leaning back, crossing your arms over your chest defensively.
"are those your scars?" he awed as he pointed towards your arms, the sleeves had ridden up on your skin.
"what the hell is wrong with you?" you jerked your sleeves down once more before you stood up and grabbed your purse. "i hope you rot in hell you freak."
you ran out to your car before calling spencer, tears already streaming down your face as you locked your car door.
"spencer reid," he answered the phone.
"spence?" you sniffled, wiping your nose.
"y/n? what is it? what happened?" he rose from his spot on his couch, shutting his book worriedly.
"i just... the date it - i need you, spencer," you cried out once more.
"do you need me to pick you up or are you alright to drive to my place?"
"i-i can drive," you replied as you wiped your tears.
"alright," he said. "i'll be waiting. should i stay on the phone with you as you drive? you could put me on speaker?"
"yea-yes, please," you answered before putting the phone on speaker.
you drove there as he read his book to you. his voice calmed you down a bit... only a little bit. not as much as his touch would. so, you sped there as fast you could without getting pulled over.
once you knocked on his door it opened in a matter of milliseconds. spencer's arms went around your waist as yours went around his neck, pulling him even closer to your body. your sobs rang through spencer's skin as he rubbed circles into your back, walking the two of you inside his apartment before he closed the door.
"what happened?" spencer asked as you curled into him whilst sitting on the couch.
"the guy wanted to see the scars," you sniffled. "when i got upset he saw them because my sleeves rolled up and well... the rest is history," you chuckled humorlessly.
"he really...?" spencer leaned back to look you in the eyes.
"yea... i know," you rolled you eyes.
"well whoever that guy is sucks. he doesn't deserve you," he twirled your hair in his fingers before continuing. "would you want to talk about it?"
"mm-mm," you shook your head. "not yet. i'm not ready."
and then it was more than abundantly clear. you might not ever be ready to tell him.

Chapter Four: Playing House
“Who could be calling this time of night?” Vassa rose from her chair, her skirts flowing to the floor.
“Trouble?” Lucien shrugged.
“We can only hope,” Jurian grinned, leaping to his feet with newfound excitement.
“I sent the maids to bed,” Vassa moved to peer out a window where she should’ve had a clear view of the porch, but nothing could be seen through the black rain, “Should I wake the house for guests?”
“We don’t know if it’s a guest, might be something more fun,” Jurian was still grinning wolfishly, now bouncing from one foot to the other, “So…who’s going to open the door?” Both man and male turned to look at Vassa who only scoffed in response.
“Ugh - why me?”
“You’re the queen, princess.”
“How are you going to call me queen and princess in the same sentence?”
“It’s an oxymoron.”
“Oxymoronic more like.”
“Oh Mother, I’m surrounded by children,” Lucien groaned, running his hands over his face.
“The only children in this room are you two. Afraid of answering a door for Cauldrons-sake,” she huffed as she waltzed into the foyer, embellished with russet wood and crimson carpets, Lucien and Jurian on her tail like puppies.
She’d just reached the towering oak doors when something whipped her around, pulling her by her outstretched hand. Turning, Vassa came face to face with Lucien whose eyes were stony with determination.
“I think not,” was all he said, his other hand resting on his belt where his silver sword of Autumn was permanently strapped.
“Why?” Vassa huffed, feeling her heartbeat quicken in response to the intensity of Lucien’s gaze.
“You’re insane if you think I’m going to let a queen open the door to an unexpected guest in the middle of the night, in the middle of a storm, whilst unarmed and being tracked by a Death God.”
Vassa’s wide eyes just drank him in, before looking down at where his hand was wrapped around her wrist. He dropped it instantaneously, as though she had burned him.
“So he does have balls,” Jurian cooed from behind them, but to Vassa, he was long forgotten.
“Fine,” Vassa took a step towards the Fae Lord, allowing her voice to drop a few octaves as she refused to break eye contact, “Go ahead.” She just about purred before turning and walking back to wait at the base of the stairs, missing the confused look on Lucien’s face as he turned to the door.
He should’ve been able to smell whoever was on the otherwise of the door, as well as the Belladonna’s which sat in clay pots on either side of the entrance. But all Lucien was getting, was the smothering dew of the rain, wet overturned earth and the neither-here-nor-there scent of furious winds. He could however hear a soft murmur of voices, from the pitch, female, before a second, shy knock beat on the wooden door. Two heartbeats, and that was it, all the information he could glean given the storm and inches of brick which separated him and his ‘guests’.
With his hand on the door’s iron handle, Lucien’s body felt alive and electric, like a drawn bow ready to fire. There was something in the air, a moment of calm before the storm. Without dwelling on it any longer, Lucien rose to is full height, one of his greatest assets even against other Fae, and yanked the door open.
“Hello?” A small, quiet voice. A voice that haunted his dreams.
***
Touch her. No, don’t touch her. She doesn’t want to be touched. But it is normal for people to touch, people touch all the time, a hand on a shoulder is no affront. Just touch her. But you have no reason to touch her.
That’s what Elain smelt like, or something similar, he supposed.
At first all Lucien could see of Elain was her big eyes, peeking over her purple cloak like beacons. But he’d recognise those eyes everywhere, sometimes it felt as though they were in his room, watching him. She seemed to still as he caught her eye, him standing in the warm orange light of the house, her shrouded in darkness and mystery.
In response to the cold and the rain, Elain’s cheeks had flushed a healthy rose. Her eyes were wide, and Lucien could see how the water had darkened and elongated her lashes. If Elain were this beautiful when she was fae, Lucien couldn’t comprehend how magnificent she must’ve looked like a human. Surely there had been suitor after suitor, clawing for a minute of her time, or even a handkerchief or a pearl. Anything of hers to prove to themselves that such beauty was possible – that she was somehow real.
It wasn’t until Lucien had stuttered a meek ‘come in’ when he noticed the second bundle of a person over Elain’s shoulder. When they came into the light of the foyer, Lucien had recognised her as one of the shadow wraith’s that often accompanied Elain in the Night Court. Which one, he could not tell, but she was lesser fae, and lesser fae were always welcome in his home.
Lucien was sure he was in a state of shock, his ears were ringing faintly as Elain entered a polite discussion with Jurian who was smiling enough for the both of them. He couldn’t tear his eyes away from her, convinced that if he even blinked for too long then she’d disappear, back to the Night Court.
Lucien stood lamely to the side, his posture rigid. Vassa remained at the base of the stairs, whatever her countenance was to Elain’s arrival, he didn’t care for it. As Jurian chatted, Elain had pulled back her hood to reveal her hair of deep gold, soaked entirely, as though she had just arisen from a bath. Lucien dug his nails into his palm.
She was so beautiful, and it hurt to wonder how the Cauldron had ever, at any point of time, believed him worthy of being considered a perfect equal to such a creature.
“Ah, might this be the letter?” Lucien forced himself to tune into the conversation.
“Yes,” Elain’s gentle voice washed over him, lapping across his skin and like magic, it began to soothe him. “From the High Lady of the Night Court. I am to be staying with you for some time it seems, an extra hand to deal with the councils. If that would be alright?” Her voice, unlike Jurian’s or Vassa’s, was consistently soft, and in a strange way, it gave her an aura of power. As though she need not speak too loudly or rush her words, as she knew the world would be listening anyway.
“Ah,” Jurian plucked the sopping note from Elain’s palm, and though he really didn’t care, Lucien watched with intent at how Jurian avoided touching any part of Elain’s skin. Instead, he grabbed the letter’s corner and held it out as it dribbled rainwater across the red and gold carpet.
“Oh, um,” Elain seemed to flush, “I promise you it was a note from Feyre. The lettering might be a bit…illegible.”
“I think we can take your word, Ms Archeron.”
“Elain, please,” she whispered politely with a small curtsey that clearly came naturally. Lucien was so taken aback by Elain that he barely had time to recognise that Jurian was putting on a big show of good behaviour for his mate. If Elain had been anyone else, and if Lucien had been back in the Spring Court manor wearing his fox mask, he would’ve winked and told Elain that she was pretty enough to go where she pleased since kings would most likely fall to her feet anyway, but he just bit his tongue and cocked his head.
He needed to say something to her, he needed to be able to look into those eyes. What was she really doing here? Had Feyre truly sanctioned this? She’d said High Lady, not High Lord. Why had she come in the middle of the night? Why was she here, why was she really here?
“Let me take that for you,” was all he ended up saying, looking from Elain to her cloak then back to her eyes.
Some part of him hated seeing Elain in damp clothes with her hair dripping. It reminded him too much of the first time he’d seen her, as his mate, after she’d just been through the most traumatic experience of her life. He wished nothing more than to wrap her up into his arms and send wave after wave of warmth through her to dry her clothes, to make sure she was never cold and shivering again.
Elain seemed to stare at him for a moment, and Lucien wondered if she could possibly be just as taken aback by him as he was of her. How many of these moments, these little pauses between words, were genuine? And how much of it was the drive of the bond?
“Thank you,” She whispered, her hands reaching up to undo the clasp at her neck. As she did so, Lucien adverted his eyes. Something about seeing Elain remove an item of clothing, even a sopping cloak, felt too much like an invasion of privacy. And then she was holding her cloak out to him, and he just nodded at her, allowing his lips to turn up at the corners as he took the damp material, making sure not to accidentally touch her bare hands.
Behind Elain, the twin appeared to cock her head and glare at him, her message clear – ‘and what about me, huh?’ Lucien ignored her as he folded the cloak over his arm and took a step back towards the wall.
“Well, welcome to Lockhart Manor, Ms Archeron,” Vassa then announced herself as she strode forth from the base of the stairs, her posture stiff and elegant. This wasn’t Vassa speaking. This was a queen. “We have spare rooms in abundance which you’re more than welcome to settle into, since the maids are asleep right now please allow me to take you to your quarters.”
“Oh, um, thank you,” Elain nodded and smiled politely, a faint flush spreading on her cheeks, one that threatened to bring Lucien to his knees.
“No luggage, or are you not staying long?” Vassa inquired innocently enough, and had Lucien tore his eyes away from Elain for just a moment, he would’ve seen the slight glint in the queen’s eye.
“My sister will winnow me my bags tomorrow morning. You see, it was paramount we left the Night Court at a certain time. Unfortunately, this was our best window for travelling, but Feyre insisted you would be awake given…” given Vassa’s curse, her inability to see sunlight with human eyes.
“Are you in danger?” Lucien couldn’t bite his tongue as something began to rise within him – Terror? Anger? Worry? Elain’s big eyes drifted back to his, and once more she seemed to pause before speaking.
“No,” she breathed. Her voice was just a petal in the wind. “At least, only in danger of Nesta finding out I’m missing.”
“You didn’t tell her you were coming here?” If Lucien wasn’t mistaken, that might just be a slightly mischievous glint alight in Elain’s eye. The idea of Elain deceiving her viper of a sister to come across the world to stay with him, seemed far too good to be real, and Lucien couldn’t stop the small grin that pulled at his lips.
“Well, you must be tired after such a journey.” Lucien wished Vassa hadn’t spoken because it pulled Elain’s gaze from his. Lucien also suspected that little travelling had been done since Elain’s companion was a shadow wraith, and able to travel the world via the shades. “Please, let me show you to your room.”
Lucien hated to see her go, as she politely curtseyed to the queen before following her up the stairs and disappearing down a corridor which led to the western wings. It was only when she was, in fact, out of sight, that Lucien felt the reality of her presence collide with him like a pile of bricks.
Suddenly, he was breathing too quickly, no, too slowly. His body was overheating, and his heart was racing. All around him swirled her scent and every cell in his body was screaming at him to follow her up the stairs, to keep her in sight and never let her leave it. Keep her warm, keep her safe.
“Careful Luce,” Jurian’s voice called him back to reality, and he found Jurian peering at him with that god-damn, shit-eating, all-knowing grin, “She’s going to want that back,” was all he said as he nodded at the sopping cloak Lucien had clutched against his abdomen. The rainwater soaking through his linens, and making him shiver.
***
“You say your sister sent you?” Vassa was leading Elain and Nuala down a series of hallways. Elain liked the manor, one she would’ve adored when she was human. There was a crimson carpet that bled across the entire house, embellished with threads of sparkling gold. Deep brown wood covered the walls in panels, and there were candles here, not faelight, which cast the hallways in a warm, watery glow. It felt so familiar, in such a painful way.
“I wanted to be of some use to my sister following Briallyn, she thought I could be of use in working with the human councils given I…well, I…”
“Used to be human?” The queen’s voice was slightly monotonous, almost sounding as though she were somewhat bored, that these things happened all the time.
“Yes,” Elain nodded furiously. She’d been so caught up in the idea of seeing Lucien again that she’d practically forgotten Jurian and Vassa.
“Well, after a good night’s rest you might be able to catch me before sunrise and we can discuss where you’d be most useful.”
“Yes, thank you…what kind of work is there?”
“Meetings with councils and human lords, establishing positive relations between fae and humans which, considering humans were enslaved to the fae a few hundred years ago, isn’t the easiest relationship to manage. There’s also work to be done regarding the human armies, and not to mention the other human queens. We could also use with someone prepared to travel to establish trade routes between the mortal lands and the Spring Court, though, really all of this pales in comparison to cleaning up the mess Briallyn left behind.”
Elain blew out a breath. There was so much going on in the world, in the mortal lands alone, and her family had hidden it all from her. Or had they hidden her from the world? It didn’t matter, she was here now, and she was prepared to make herself as useful as possible.
“Where can I find you, to talk tomorrow morning?”
“I’ll most likely be in the dining room, taking breakfast with Lucien and Jurian.” The Queen swung a hard left and Elain stumbled slightly as she tried to follow.
“Okay…thank you, for everything.” Elain put on her best smile, but the queen wasn’t looking at her.
“You were quite sick the last time I saw you,” was all the queen said in response, and Elain felt as though ice had been poured down the back of her dress.
“Yes, I was,” Elain said quietly, her eyes meeting those of Nuala’s for a fleeting moment. God, where was her room?
“You’re better now?”
“Yes,” Elain practically whispered, not interested in being reminded of those torturous months post-Cauldron. Especially when, technically, she was still in them.
“Good,” Vassa said, and Elain couldn’t read her tone, but then, “Here are your quarters, Jurian’s rooms are just down the hall. If you wish to find me, or Lucien,” she paused slightly, “Then you can find our rooms in the East wing. Just ask a passing maid and they’ll lead you to us.”
Something ugly reared its head inside Elain as Vassa referred to her and Lucien as an ‘us’. And if Elain wasn’t mistaken, judging by the glint in Vassa’s eye, the language had been intentional. But Elain knew this game, knew how to play a courtier, how to manipulate a crowd with a smile.
Interesting, some part of Elain perked up. Maybe she’d gotten herself into more than she was expecting by coming to Lockhart Manor. Or maybe, it was a really, really good thing she’d come at all.
“Thank you,” was all Elain said, letting nothing pass her courtly smile. “For everything.”
***
Nuala had her own room but had stayed with Elain for a while after Vassa’s departure, perhaps reading the slight tension in the Acheron’s shoulders as she perched herself at her room’s vanity. If Elain was rational, then she would be obsessing over Vassa, of what she said and the look in her eye as she spoke. She would try and unfurl the dynamic she was to expect at breakfast tomorrow, when the world was still dark.
But she was thinking of him.
Lucien was different here, and Elain realised that she’d never seen him out of the Night Court. In fact, all at once the chaste meetings they’d had thus far seemed entirely, hilariously inadequate.
He was otherworldly, something about him seemed more fae than the others, even the Illyrian’s with their beautiful wings. Lucien was fire and light in form. His hair, no mortal could even imagine hair like that. In fact, Elain was convinced that even Feyre couldn’t capture it’s essence in her paintings. It was ever-changing, always moving and shifting colours in the light, almost as though it were alive. When she’d first seen him in the Night Court it had been a paler, autumnal orange with what seemed to be streaked with glittering gold. But here, by the candlelight of Lockhart manor, it was the red of rust and blood.
His skin was made of tan plains that rose and fell over the contours of his body in a way that reminded Elain of the deserts she’d seen drawn in adventure books. And then there was his impossible height, taller than everyone, including those back at the Night Court, only beating Cassian by an inch. He had a presence in a room like no other, he demanded intrigue and interest, with his mismatched eyes and brutal scar.
Maybe Elain had only been so nervous of Lucien because of that reason. Because she was used to seeing men who appeared to have not quite come into their bodies, their chins loose with excess skin, their hair wiry and coarse. And Lucien…Lucien looked as though he’d had hundreds of years to hone his body. Tall and sharp, standing with a poise that reminded Elain of a blade. His eyes alert and always moving, and a mouth that quirked to the side, as though there was always some dirty joke resting on the tip of his tongue.
Guilt moved through Elain in a wave. First, guilt over Graysen, then guilt over Azriel. Both men whom she’d also found to be beautiful, in their own ways. The innocence of Graysen, which in hindsight, proved to be a hilarious interpretation. The mystery of Azriel, the way that even when she was convinced he wanted her, she was never entirely sure.
Perhaps it wasn’t guilt that washed through Elain, but rather dread. Because here she was, again, and all she could hear was her mother’s voice echoing in her mind – Foolish girl. Foolish, foolish girl. Her mother would tell her that she never learns.
Or maybe she wouldn’t. She’d only admitted to herself that Lucien was attractive, his eyes searing, looking every bit of the fae prince as he swung open the door, backlit by gold and red light. And the bond was supposed to make her find him attractive, right? She could consult the book she’d brought later. Because that was the problem – what was real and what was the bond? Did Lucien truly care for her? Would he have even looked her way if the bond hadn’t existed? No matter how much she tried, she couldn’t be convinced. Lucien was suited to the bold courage of Nesta or even the quick-wit of Feyre. Elain was brutally soft. Men like Lucien didn’t care for the delicate - right?
“I’m sorry to take you from your sister, Nuala,” Elain whispered, as her friend began to comb through her dripping hair.
“It’s no problem,” Nuala’s voice was like velvet, and in the mirror, Elain could see her eyes were soft and her mouth turned up at the corners. “Sometimes getting away from family can be good for you.”
Elain hummed in response as Nuala began to knot her hair into a crown of elegant braids so that her hair would dry with a curl.

SANDERS SIDES KARAOKE: GOTHIC LITERATURE MUSICALS EDITION
Okay, so after four years of being in the Sanders Sides fandom, I’m going to attempt to write some headcanons. Here we go.
Since it’s well-known in fanon that the sides do have karaoke sessions, imagine what would happen if they sang musicals based on gothic literature.
Roman’s happy because broadway, duh, Logan is happy because it’s canon that he enjoys gothic literature since he dressed up as Frankenstein’s monster for Halloween, same reason for Virgil and Patton’s happy that his family is bonding. He made extra cookies for the occasion. He’s dangerous like that.
(I headcanon that when Thomas had to write analyses of gothic literature novels for school, Virgil, Roman and Logan would work together to come up with stuff and write the best essays in class and Patton would be so proud of them)
I’m not going to count Les Mis because I’m not too sure if that counts as gothic literature and whilst the Hunchback of Notre Dame is indeed gothic (trust me I read that in a plane once. An entire, like, ten pages is dedicated to describing the scenery) I don’t think it became a broadway show.
Now this isn’t like their usual karaoke nights, no sir. Just idly remaining in the living room won’t do. Where is the gusto? The pizazz? The accolade winning extravaganza? The-
“We get it Princey, can you just get on with it?” - Virgil
No, this type of singing can only be accompanied with an atmosphere that will do it justice. To the imagination they go and with Logan’s (who has practically memorised every single one of these books and is not geeking out at all) input on how the novels describe each setting, Roman creates very intricate landscapes for each song.
When they sing ‘Alive’ from ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ Roman thought that it would be really cool for Patton to play Mr Edward Hyde since Hyde is literally the human id and Patton, being the embodiment of morality, is literally the superego (although to be fair, Patton is also shown to be quite childish and impulsive since he’s also the base of Thomas’ emotions and Hyde is impulsive because he’s a way for Jekyll to act on his own emotions - especially since the only crime that Hyde does in the book are him over-reacting with his anger by beating a man to death. And in the novella, Jekyll writes that he and Hyde are like father and son and that Hyde is actually younger than Jekyll is, he does have that sense of childishness that Patton has only instead of that childishness being good and helpful, it’s bad and hurtful. Plus in the soundtrack of Alive, whilst Anthony Warlow does sing about how good being evil feels like, he also sounds like he is crying tears of joy of being able to be himself, the first words post-transformation being freedom and anyways these are supposed to be fun headcanons not analytical headcanons so I digress…)
Anyways Patton is happy to play the villain because “look kiddos, Roman conjured up this really swell cape” “the correct term is cloak” “and check out this top hat and cane!” and he’s just belting out the words and froliking around Victorian London without a care in the world, making his cape swoosh in the wind.
“Patton I would advise you not to take your shoes off. This is nineteenth-century London with people dying of cholera by the dozens, your feet could catch a myriad of infections.”
“Worry not, specs, the scenery is merely an illusion. I would never allow for our dear padre to succumb to the villain of illness”
“Aww, thanks kiddo (cue Patton’s sunshine smile) now where was I? IT’S THE FEELING OF BEING ALIVE! FILLED WITH EVIL AND TRULY ALIVE!”
They have Logan sing ‘I Need To Know’ because a doctor of science singing about wanting to expand his knowledge and having that thirst to do whatever it takes to get said knowledge. That is a Logan Sanders song right there. At first he’s like “why do I have to sing. I was happy enough giving directions and helping you with the scenery” but Roman creates this big scientific library that could rival the one from Beauty and the Beast/ laboratory from that’s practically the identical to Jekyll’s lab in the book and he’s like “Fine” like he isn’t enjoying himself. He is. They all know it. He’s not fooling anyone
Patton and Roman sing ‘Bring on the men’ together (yes, whilst wearing dresses) whilst Virgil and Logan drink apple juice from those big british beer glasses in the mind-scape created Red Rat (which Logan is quick to point out doesn’t exist and is vocally upset at how the musical adaptation added unnecessary romantic subplots with Lisa and Lucy when the book itself only had three background female characters who were only there for like one paragraph. He’s even more upset at the other inaccuracies with the book like how in the play Jekyll creates his formula as a cure for mental illness and Hyde was accidental whilst in the book he did it because he wanted to indulge in sin without fearing the consequences and Hyde, whilst not being exactly what he wanted, was actually created on purpose or how in the book Hyde only kills one man and in the musical he kills practically everyone except for the one person he did kill. Virgil pats him on the back with sympathy). Roman and Virgil are sniggering at the sexual euphemisms at the end of the song whilst Patton’s confused. She just seems really enthusiastic about food.
Roman sings both parts of ‘Confrontation’ by himself. He gets a standing ovation.
He also does ‘Transformation’. The problem is that he was so good at sounding like he was in complete agony and near death that they had to stop the song prematurely because Patton was getting upset. Don’t worry, Pat gets lots of cuddles by Roman afterwords.
(You know what I might do some sides reacting to The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde later because 1. It’s my favourite book and 2. All four of them would have very interesting takes on it)
From the Frankenstein musical Virgil plays the criminal from ‘Say Amen’ because he wants to (seriously, the guy’s first words in the song are ‘I curse the day that I was born into a world so black with hate’) and Logan plays Victor Frankenstein but Patton refuses for his son to even pretend to be executed by the noose so they have Roman play a man wearing a british executioner outfit with a foam sword and the creative side just bonks the anxious side on the neck with it. Logan despairs about the historical inaccuracy from his place in the stands whilst Patton is cheering next to him. Patton also hands him an extra jumper to keep him warm in the Switzerland cold.
“Patton, I am grateful that you are thinking of my health but no one in eighteenth century Switzerland wore bright blue jumpers with cartoon kittens on them”
“Really, Logan, are you paw-sitive?”
“I would like to change places with Virgil. Immediately”
Roman and Logan turn ‘Birth to my creation’ into a duet because Logan enjoys the scientific aspect of it and Roman can’t resist the drama (of course). He goes all out. He makes Victor’s lab perfect to the smallest detail (and cheers when Logan’s eyes start lighting up and he does that cute clappy thing when he’s excited), he conjures a storm and makes lightning strike at the best moments of the song. He even creates a ‘wretch’ (what Victor calls the monster in the book. I’ve heard that it’s name is Adam but all I remember from the novel is Victor calling himself god and the creature his Adam) to lie on the table.
“And we didn’t even have to go grave-robbing for it. Or drop out of University.” - Roman
“No matter how many times I wanted to.” - Virgil
Roman and Virgil do most of the songs from Dracula. The creative side creates this huge, expensive-looking window-balcony thing with glass double doors and billowing silk curtains so that he could dramatically sing ‘the longer I live’ whilst the wind blows through his hair and he dramatically drapes himself on the balustrade so that the light from the full moon hits his figure just right. Patton’s close to crying.
Logan is very eager to give as many facts as he can about nineteenth-century mental institutions for ‘The Master’s Song’. He gets really into the history behind certain treatments and different cases. Roman plays Renfield and the others play doctors.
Virgil is super into Dracula’s castle during ‘Life after life’. He and Roman duet that song wearing all-black. Logan tries to help Patton’s slight fear by telling him the history behind different pieces of architecture.
Patton plays Christine during Phantom of the Opera
Roman, Virgil and Logan sing ‘A story told’ from The Count of Monte Cristo around a circular table in a dimly lit tavern. Patton takes pictures and drinks hot chocolate in the sidelines.

The gentle smell of freshly baked pastries, accompanied by the stronger aroma of ground coffee beans, wafted through the comfy café. There was a constant chatter as customers scattered around the joint whilst waiting, disguising the soft hum coming from behind the coffee machine. Your face was out of sight, except your hair peeked out above the espresso machine where you were pouring a latté, entertaining yourself by decorating a small heart in the foam. A smile tugged at the corners of your lips as your eyes turned to soft crescents when soft wisps of your hair had fallen out of your bun and across the sides of your forehead. The steam floating from the cup caressed your hands as you picked up the mug along with an assortment of macaroons.
“Order for Julie: four macaroons, a chai latté, and an espresso affogato, extra dry!” You announced through the coffee shop, turning a few heads.
You made your way back to the station to continue other orders but stopped as you noticed something missing; you had run out of cinnamon to top off drinks. Your coworker ought to know where another carton would be, so you turned towards the kitchen to find him wrist-deep in bread dough.
“Jongho, where are the extra containers of cinnamon again?”
“Oh, those are in the grey cabinet below the pastry display,” he smiled back, all the while kneading the dough.
Flashing him an ‘ok’ sign, you headed back to the front of the shop. You hadn’t been working at the Crescent Café very long, but you happened to be a pretty fast learner, according to Jongho; you could make latte art before other trainees could even make a latte. Quickly getting back to work, you served a customer until something caught you eye whilst jotting down an order on your notepad; had the writing been on your wrist all day? It must just be something I wrote down earlier, you thought.
Tumblr media
As the sun made its way towards the horizon, you returned to the comfort of your small apartment to freshen up, eat dinner, and momentarily forget your academic responsibilities— homework, ugh-- before heading to school again the next day. You entered you apartment with a relived sigh and threw your keys onto a nearby dresser, mumbling "I'm home" to nobody in particular. Too lazy to go to your room, you simply undressed as you walked towards the bathroom, leaving a trail of clothing behind you. Note to self: clean that up later.
The moment you stepped into the shower, your shoulders loosened as the hot water washed away your tension. The writing on your wrist caught your eye again. Scrutinizing the messy handwriting, you saw what seemed to be a shopping list.
“Eggs, lucky charms, and aftershave,” you read aloud.
Aftershave? I don’t use that. Could it be… you were lost thought, not noticing the warm steam filling the bathroom. You rubbed at your soapy skin frantically in an attempt to wash off the pen, to no avail. Lately, although rarely, you’d started to notice small bruises or random marks on your skin; you’d never seen writing, though. You briefly wondered if there was possibly another person causing this, but you only saw such things in movies or books... right?
Your heart rate started to pick up, and a heavy sensation built up in your chest. It isn’t possible, it can’t be. The cramped space of your shower started to feel suffocating. Nearly slipping, you jumped out of the shower and dried yourself off. You got dressed in whatever shirt and sweats you found hanging around your bedroom. Was something wrong with you? Am I imagining things? I’m not going crazy, right?  Worrisome thoughts flooded your mind as you spiralled deeper into a panic. Calm down. Don’t skip to conclusions. You threw yourself onto the bed. In and out. It’s that simple, you consoled yourself. Slowly but surely, you felt your heart come to a rest.
When you lifted your hand up above your head the writing was still there, unchanged. So you weren’t losing your mind. Could somebody else be the cause of this? Was someone else somehow writing on your skin? No, you felt stupid for even considering the thought; otherworldly things like that only happened in comics or movies. Nevertheless, it was the only possibility that made sense to you in the moment. You let your curiosity get the best of you, and paced towards the living room to grab a pen off the coffee table. On your right hand, you simply wrote "Hi," in hopes of eliciting some sort of response.
Tumblr media
The following day proved to be a rather sunny, warm Monday, but you had to spend your time in a closed lecture hall. The cold-toned ceiling lights were much too bright for your liking, and the monotonous professor spouted information maybe only a handful of people were genuinely listening to. That morning, you had woken up to find the list on your wrist gone, leaving only your own message from the night before. You started to think you'd really had a hallucination of some sort.
Half an hour into the lecture, you were already bored out of your mind and absentmindedly sketching intricate doodles on your notebook. I should just give up on biochemistry and become an artist, you mused to yourself. You remained focused on your art, while marks started to take shape on the back of your hand. Your soft eyes widened almost comically at the sight, and you shot a brief look to the people around you to make sure they hadn’t seen anything. Whipping your head back to your hand, you saw that the words stopped writing themselves, leaving a short message saying Am I going nuts?”
Wondering the same thing yourself, you jotted down a response below it: “I dunno, you tell me,” followed by a cheeky smiley face. If this really was real, you might as well make a good first impression.
Tumblr media
Weeks trickled into months as you made short exchanges with your newly discovered friend. Some nights you would write “good night” followed by a drawn heart, earning a sweet “sleep well” in return. You would frequently wake up to thoughtful words written on the palm of your hand, or you'd kindly ask your companion how they were doing when you had a quiet day at work. Even so, all you had learned about this person was their name, age, and that they were a student as well. Yunho was a twenty-one-year-old elementary education major with a minor in physiology-- he also worked as a dance teacher on weekends. You still didn’t know much about each other, so the messages never went further than greetings and simple conversations.
Be that as it may, you liked it like that. Your relationship wasn’t complex; it felt comfortable and pure, and you didn’t want to change it.
Tumblr media
Mellow spring afternoons at the café had always been your favourite. The wispy clouds in the sky were painted a buttery yellow by the slowly setting sun, and a steady stream of nearby students stopped by for coffee. Your new friend had sweetly noted "It's golden hour. Made me think of you," on your palm, leaving you in a bubbly mood. You had started your shift by drawing a heart on your wrist, hoping your secret companion would see it.
You worked by the espresso machine as usual, humming to yourself as always. The bell rang, indicating that customers had arrived; it was a group of what seemed to be three guys and a girl.
“We’ll be right with you!” you called. You turned towards the kitchen.  “Jongho, can you take their orders?” Silence. “Pretty please? I need to clean up my station.” you persisted.
“Fine, yeah,” you heard your colleague grumble.
As you tidied up behind the machine, you felt as though someone was watching you from the counter. You lifted your head curiously, meeting a pair of inquisitive doe eyes coloured a soft hazelnut brown. The warm eyes instantly turned into friendly half-moons as the boy smiled shyly upon being caught staring. You hurried back to cleaning up your station, hoping to hide the pink tint of your cheeks, but the red shade consuming your ears gave you away.
Jongho handed you the cups for their orders and walked over to the pastry display. You got started on a hot chocolate and three iced americanos, getting back into your “barista brain,” as you liked to call it. After finishing the drinks, you called out "Three iced americanos, a hot chocolate, and two blueberry muffins!”
You turned around to grab straws, and you overheard one of the guys say “I’ll grab ‘em, you guys can stay here.” You made your way back to the counter, looking up only to be met with the boy from earlier. Butterflies littered your stomach, fluttering up into your chest. “Oh, um, here are some straws,” you smiled gingerly.
“Thanks. Could I please get a sleeve as well?” he asked, “For my hot chocolate.”
“Of course!”
As you handed him the cardboard sleeve, his hands caught your eye. Not only were they the most beautiful hands you'd ever laid eyes on, but the boy had a heart drawn on the valley of skin between his left thumb and wrist, exactly where you had drawn one on your own hand just a while earlier. He seemed to recognize the message on your palm as well; a confused expression ghosted over his face. Gathering all your courage, you nodded towards his hand and did your best to form a coherent sentence. “That’s—”
“Your heart,” he interrupted, “Right?”
You giggled softly in response, barely containing your excitement.
“Right,” you smiled down at your feet in an attempt to hide the bashful grin that pulled at your lips. A hand popped up in front of you.
“Nice to meet you, y/n. My name’s Yunho-- Oh, but you know that already, don’t you?” Yunho chuckled sheepishly. You looked up and slipped your hand into his, shaking it gently. His hands were warm, fingertips ever so soft.
“Nice to meet you too.”

A Long Way From The Playground | Charlie Gillespie
Requested by @faithie-brock-gillespie01: Can you make one where me and Charlie go out to hang out around the town and I get pinned to the wall by man who hasn’t left me alone all day (like he attacks me when Charlie just goes to the bathroom or something) and then all of a sudden Charlie comes back and saves me by pulling the guy off. They get into a small fight and he ends up growling “mine” and pointing at the guy as I pull him back and out of the place. After I pull him out and get him home. You’ve been friends with Charlie for ages. The first day at Kindergarten, a mean girl had pushed you off the swing during recess, and when Charlie saw this, he came up to help you. He pushed the girl off the swing she stole from you and then rushed to your side to help you up. He accompanied you to the school nurse and even stayed after the wound on your knee had been taken care of. The nurse had given both of you a lollipop and allowed you to wait in her office until recess was over. Ever since that day, you and Charlie had been inseparable. You went through life together, supporting each other’s decisions and helping out whenever the other was in trouble.  It was really hard on you when Charlie went to LA to pursue his acting career, but you supported him nonetheless. This was his dream, and as a best friend, it was your duty to let him go and pursue that dream, even if that meant leaving you in Dieppe all by yourself. Your relationship never really suffered from the distance between the two of you. There were consistent FaceTime calls and constant texts, it’s almost as though he’s not even gone. The only thing that might cause disturbance is your feelings for him. You were eighteen when you first realized that you’d much rather kiss Charlie than hug him, when his otherwise platonic touches were felt everywhere. Everywhere. But, of course, you decided not to say anything because it might just ruin what you have, and what you have is really special. In 2019, Charlie asks you to come along with him to Vancouver where he’s going to be shooting Julie and The Phantoms, a Kenny Ortega project. You, being a big fan of the director and Charlie, decide to come along. You deserve a little break, and you’ve missed Charlie too much to pass up this opportunity. “Bubbaaaaa!” you shriek as you run up to him in the grand hallway of Vancouver International Airport, leaving your luggage somewhere along the way. He’s holding out his arms, ready to catch you as you jump up and into his arms, wrapping your legs around his waist, clutching onto him like a koala bear. Passengers leaving or arriving give you weird looks, annoyed at the disturbance in their day, but you don’t care. It’s been months since you’d last seen this man, and you’re way too excited to  be in his arms again. “Hey Nugget,” he mumbles in your hair, inhaling the fresh scent of  peonies, his most favorite. “Gosh, I missed ya.” He loosens his arms a little to put you back on your feet, but you don’t want to let go yet. A chuckle vibrates through his chest and travels all the way through yours. “I missed you too, Bubba,” you say back and then let go of him. You just needed a few more seconds in his arms. After grabbing your luggage where you left it, he takes you to the apartment he’s sharing with one of his cast mates, Owen, who’s sitting on the sofa as you arrive. The tall blonde man gets up and makes his way over to you with a wide smile on his face. “Hi!” he greets, opening his arms to give you a welcome hug. “I’m Owen.” “I’m Y/N, nice to meet you,” you say back when the two of you pull away. “I’m gonna show Y/N to their room and then we can maybe get some lunch together?” Charlie suggests to the both of you. After exchanging a glance, you and Owen nod agreeingly. Charlie then excitedly grabs your hand and leads you towards one of the rooms. “This is my room, but you can sleep here and I’ll sleep on the couch,” he explains softly. Your head snaps up at this, wondering if he’s serious about his suggestion of sleeping on the couch. He’s looking at you expectantly. He is serious about sleeping on the couch. “Dude… We used to sleep in the same bed during our sleepovers in Dieppe all the time. Just sleep in this bed with me, alright?” You almost sound angry at the audacity of him suggesting doing otherwise.  “Right, yeah! Of course,” he utters, his eyes lighting up, “I just-- didn’t want to force you to sleep in the same bed in case things… changed…” You let out an airy laugh, shaking your head in disbelief whilst throwing your luggage onto the bed with a dull thud. “Nothing could ever change things between us, Char,” you mutter, but in your mind know at least one reason that could change between you. You hear him chuckle as you grab an entirely new outfit from your suitcase, wanting to change out of your disgusting airplane clothes. “Can I take a quick shower before we go to lunch?” you ask, and he simply nods his head and guides you out of the bedroom and to the shared bathroom. While you shower, you think of all the possible ways this week could go. You want to tell Charlie how you truly feel. You can’t just be friends with him anymore. It’s been three years since you figured it out. You’ve spent three years trying not to scream whenever his fingers left a burning trail on your skin or when his glances made you tingle everywhere. But now you’re done trying to pretend nothing’s going on. You’re done pretending not kissing him isn’t killing you. Though the multiple possible scenarios make for a bad movie, you’re willing to at least try and see what he’s going to say or do. This could go either way. Little do you know Charlie’s having the exact same thoughts, only he’s saying them out loud to Owen, one room over. “You gotta tell them, man. There’s no way you’re gonna be able to hold out much longer,” says Owen to his distressed friend, “This is making you crazy.” Charlie doesn’t disagree. It is making him crazy. Maybe this week might give him some clarity as to what to do about this entire situation. Once you’re ready, the three of you head out into Vancouver to grab some lunch. While Charlie and Owen bicker about which restaurant would be best to take you to, you give yourself the opportunity to look around, rewarding your eyes with the beauty that is West End Vancouver. The difference between Dieppe and Vancouver is fascinating, to say the least. It’s funny to you because wherever you go or turn in Dieppe, there’s a natural flair to the streets, while everything in Vancouver is made of brick. Or at least this street is. “What about sushi, Y/N?” Owen asks you, making you snap out of your thoughts. “Ooh! I love me some sushi!” you reply, your mouth already salivating at the thought alone. “Told ya, Char,” he says to Charlie, “Who’s really their best friend, huh?” Charlie playfully punches the blondie in the shoulder, inducing a laugh from him. “All right, kids, where’s this sushi place? I am hella hungry!” you exclaim, interrupting their banter. They both point to a building on your right. You’re now looking at a townhouse, all brown bricks and teal framework around the windows and balconies at the top, whilst the ground floor has a black finish and black canopy with the sushi bar’s logo on it in big, white lettering. Before you can say anything else, the two have pulled you inside already, finding a spot near the back. Charlie slides into the booth next to you while Owen takes the opposite side. The waiter’s quick on his feet and brings you a menu and asks what you want to drink straight away. All three of you order some sodas, and then the waiter leaves you to choose. While you’re scanning the menu for something you like, you can feel a pair of eyes burning your skin. You look up for a moment, locking eyes with a guy that doesn’t look that much older than you. Awkwardly, you shoot him a smile before turning back to the menu. You look up again every now and then because you want to check if he’s still looking, and every time, he is. By the third time, he shoots you this disgusting smirk that sends physical shivers down your spine, shaking your entire body from head to toe. “You okay?” Charlie asks, feeling you shiver. “Yeah, just got the chills,” you reply, not wanting to make this a dramatic thing. It’s just a man staring at you creepily. Nothing you haven’t experienced yet. That’s what you get for wearing such extravagant clothes. “I’m ready to order, what about you guys?” you change the subject quickly, more for yourself than anyone else. You need to focus on other things so as to not feel too uncomfortable.  The three of you order your food, and you start to ask the boys some questions about their new project together, and you even ask Owen about his show Knight Squad. You did watch that with your younger siblings when it ran on Nickelodeon. All of it helps keep you occupied and not at all thinking about the creepy man that’s still there. “I gotta go in for a fitting, but I’ll see you guys at the apartment later, okay?” Owen says after lunch, scooting out of the booth. “Can you cover my part of the bill, Char? I’ll pay you back later.” The boy next to you simply nods his head. “Kay, thanks. See you later, Y/N,” he offers you a wave before leaving the joint and leaving you and Charlie by yourself. “Can we go?” you ask when you notice Creepy Guy again. “Yeah, sure,” Charlie replies and scoots out of the booth. “Are you okay? You’ve been fidgety ever since we got here…” Of course he’d notice your change of demeanor. The Creepy Guy’s eyes on you at all times has made you quite nervous. “Oh, no, yeah… I’m fine,” you try to smile as convincingly as possible. “I gotta go to the toilet real quick, I’ll be right back, okay?” You slowly nod your head, unsure if it’s such a good plan to leave you by yourself with Creepy Guy just a few feet away.  At first, you can keep your nerves at bay by pulling your jacket on and tugging at your shirt to make sure nothing’s on show. Then, you decide to take your phone out and aimlessly scroll through social media. It’s not like you’re actually picking things up from the things people posted since you’re trying to listen if there are any feet approaching. Your ears betray you today as there’s a tap on your shoulder. Hoping and praying it’s Charlie, you slowly turn around, only to find Creepy Guy in front of you with that disturbing smirk on his face. Chills run down your spine again as your thumb blindly finds its way to your contacts in your phone. You know Charlie’s name is at the very top of your recent calls, ready to be pressed in case of emergencies. “Hello, Gorgeous,” Creepy Guy says, “Noticed your two boy toys left you all by yourself, thought you could use some company.” He’s shuffling closer and closer, his breath hot and foul on your lips as you’re backing  away until you feel the wall behind you. You’re frantically looking around for someone to notice and help you. A waitress behind the counter has a phone pressed to her ear, and you’re praying she’s calling the police.  “What’s wrong, Angel Face? Are you n--” he’s cut off and pulled away from you all of a sudden. You have to blink your eyes a couple of times before you could properly see again. The whole situation made you black out for a couple of seconds. But now, your eyes land on Charlie, punching Creepy Guy in the face and getting hit a few times in return. For a moment, you’re frozen to the floor. Firstly because seeing Charlie fuming and punching a guy is kind of hot, and secondly because you’ve got no clue what to do. “Charlie,” you finally manage to bring out and place a hand on his shoulder. He turns his head at you, dark and angry eyes softening at the sight of your scared expression. “Let’s go,” you whisper, and grab his hand. “Hey, are you okay?” the waitress asks when you pass her, “I just called the cops, they’re gonna be here soon.” You glance at Charlie, his face all beaten up and bloody from the impact of Creepy Guy’s fist. “They’re gonna want you to make a statement.” “Fine,” you sigh. You wished you could forget about this whole thing quickly, but the girl just wants to help. “Could I get your first aid kit to take care of him first though?” You point at your best friend’s face, and the girl nods her head. “You can do it in here,” she says, beckoning you to follow. She hands you the small box and then leaves the two of you alone as though she knows you need some privacy. You sit Charlie down on the chair and perch yourself on the table next to it whilst going through the first aid kit. It’s silent for a while as you’re cleaning up the cuts on his forehead and cheeks. “Why’d you do that, Charlie?” you mutter, frustrated that his hot-headedness got him into this mess. He hisses as the disinfecting product you’re dabbing on his wounds starts stinging. “I hate seeing you get hurt, Nugget. Seeing that man practically groping you sickened me to my stomach. It hurt me as much as it hurt you, Y/N,” he exhales sharply and grabs your wrist to stop you from undeliberately hurting him some more. “Babe, I need to clean out these wounds,” you grumble, trying to wriggle your hand loose. “I’m fine, Y/N. They’ll heal,” he tells you, though you know those wounds are hurting. “No, Char. They’ll infect if I don’t clean them out properly,” you cup his face on one side, softly rubbing your thumb against his cheek. “You’re gonna have to grin and bear it, baby. Let me take care of you, okay?” His eyes soften as does the grip on your wrist. You continue cleaning up the wounds in silence, only Charlie’s soft hissing filling up your ears. “There you go,” you whisper when you’re finally done, “You’re as good as new.” Charlie offers you a thankful smile, which you return quickly before getting off the table to throw the used gauze into the bin in the corner of the room. When you turn around to return to the table, Charlie’s right behind you, making you jump out of your skin as you didn’t expect him to be this close. “Jeez, Bubba, I didn’t hear you sneak up,” you say in a hushed voice while clutching your heart. He’s staring down at you, his twinkling eyes flicking from yours to your lips and back. “What?” you ask softly. Your brain is going a mile a minute and your heart is pounding out of your chest. Besides hugging him, it’s been a while since you’ve been this close to him. You’d almost forgotten what that did to you. “I just--” he visibly swallows a lump, and then a smile plays at his lips, “Remember that first day we met? When Jade pushed you off that swing?” Though you’re confused as to why he’d bring that up, you can’t help but smile. “I still have a scar on my knee from that fall,” you reply, remembering the day clearly. “I thought you were super sweet to stand up for me. I even found it a little funny when you pushed Jade off the swing in return.” A chuckle escapes from him. “Yeah, Miss Edwards didn’t find it quite as funny,” Charlie adds. “But I knew from that day on that you were gonna be special to me, Y/N. Gossipping at the nurse’s office about who we liked and didn’t like, our mutual love for coca cola lollipops and The Rugrats.... I just knew I never wanted to be friends with anyone else in my life.” Your lips turn up into a tender smile at his sweet words. “But things have changed, haven’t they?” Your smile disappears at this. Where is this going?  “I’ve been trying to find the right words to say this, but I could never come up with anything that could even come close to how I’m feeling…” he lets out a shaky breath, his eyes scanning your face for any sign of help. “Charlie… What are you getting at?” you ask, the fear taking over your voice with a quiver. “I might totally ruin our friendship with this, but I have to tell you because it’s driving me crazy…” Your eyebrows furrow, worry growing within you. “Charlie, stop babbling and just tell me what you wanna say! This is kinda nerve-wracking!” you raise your voice a little as a nervous chuckle breaks up the words ever so slightly. “Y/N,” he scoffs, “I’ve been in love with you since we were eighteen, and no, I didn’t get that from a One Direction song, though I’m pretty sure that one would’ve been accurate to sing to you right now. So, I’m just gonna quote that…” Your breath hitches in your throat at his confession. The thing you’ve been so afraid of for years is something that’s been bothering him too. At the exact same time. “Long before we both thought the same thing,” he continues, still in his normal speaking voice until the musician in him comes up. “To be loved or to be in love. And all I can do is say that these arms are made for holding you, oh. I wanna love like you made me feel… When we were eighteen…” He stops singing and looks at you for any sign of reciprocation. You’re frozen to the floor in absolute shock. This is what you’ve been dreaming about for so long and now that it’s finally here, you’re not even saying anything. “Y/N? I-- I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said anything. I should’ve just kept these feelings to myself. I totally ruined everything now, didn’t I? I--let’s just forget about this whole thing, yeah? Just wake up tomorrow as if nothing ever happened. It’s okay, I--” You finally spring into action. But instead of saying anything, you simply grab him by his shirt and pull him into you, pressing your lips to his in a passionate kiss. He’s startled at first, but quickly melts into your lips and lets his hands find their way to your face. “I’ve been waiting for three years, scared you didn’t feel the same…” you whisper as you pull back, finally having found the words. “We’re both so stupid, Bubba.” He chuckles softly before kissing you again. “We literally could’ve been doing this for three whole years!” you exclaim, shaking your head in disbelief. “Yes, Princess, I know. Now, shut up and kiss me, we’ve got three years of this to catch up on.” A smile tugs at your lips as he removes the remaining space between your lips again. You’re a little too caught up into the kiss, you don’t even notice the knock on the door. “Guys, the--” you break apart, wide eyes staring at the door where the waitress stands with a sheepish smile. “Sorry… The cops are here,” she throws her thumb backwards. “Ugh, right…” you groan, but Charlie takes your hand and leads you out into the sushi bar again. During your statement, he stays with you at all times, holding your hand and watching you closely with a sad smile on his face. He hates the fact you have to go through all of that again as if you didn’t go through enough already. “That’s all we need from you, miss Y/L/N,” the officer says after a while. “You’ll hear from us soon. You can go home now. As for you, mister Gillespie, I’d do something about that anger of yours.” Charlie curtly nods his head before taking you out of the restaurant. The two of you head back home, and once there, you immediately head into the bedroom. There’s a lot of catching up to do from those three lost years. Your friendship has come a long way from the playground.

Snapetober Day 1: Autumn.
hi everyone! today finally starts the snapetober, are you excited? i sure am. so i decided to write for it, but will eventually (once october is done) do art for every day. today we start with a recollection of memories throughout the years from Prue's POV. you can read it over in ao3 if you'd like, and also if you'd be kind enough, go give me some kudos over there. thanks, hope you enjoy~.
Day 1 - Autumn.
---
1993.
Prue was on the Hogwarts Express, heading to London, where she would meet the Malfoys to spend the holidays with them. Usually her mood would be pessimistic and she would find herself terrified to imagine what was going to get into her room on any of those nights, but honestly, the girl couldn't think of anything other than her Potions professor.
If she closed her eyes, she couldn't help but sigh, remembering each second intensely, her heart racing as she imagined his face shocked at her, at the actions she had taken. Her pulse reached its peak when she recalled everything she saw then, as if time had stopped to give her the opportunity to perfectly memorize the details, even the smallest of them: Black hair surrounding the pale face, agitated by the staggering and the autumn air that little by little became more wintry with the passing of the days; confused, puzzled, and a tinge of scared, black eyes, unsure what the hell was going on, and also (and Prue blushed just thinking about it) expectant, hopeful; pale skin gently reddened at certain points, such as the cheekbones and the tip of the nose, due to the cold and, she dared to suspect, due to her, to her closeness to him; and finally, the area where her attention had focused the most: His lips, thin and pale, slightly parted, perhaps because they were ready to say "what the bloody hell is wrong with you, Pennyworth?"sentence that was never heard.
The girl had wondered many times, over the last few weeks, what it would be like to feel those lips on hers. Were they as cold as the words that his owner spoke with them? Or would they be warm and kind like his hands that day that he accompanied her in her solitude?
She smiled widely, for the second time in her life, thinking that she finally knew the answers to her questions.
1994.
If there was one thing she never thought could happen to her, it was having a boyfriend. She knew she was complicated and difficult, and she wouldn't have been surprised to spend the rest of her life not romantically intimate with anyone… But it had happened, much to her surprise.
And, even to her greatest surprise, something happened that had seemed even more unlikely: she was the one who ended the relationship. He didn’t throw her away, he didn’t abandon her as practically everyone else, he didn’t leave her. Even when the relationship ended, he didn’t do any of that, because he was still with her, as her friend, perfectly understanding that one does not rule in love.
It happens that she wasn’t able to bear someone else's heart, not when she knew that hers was beating strongly for that man with eyes as dark as his robes. Prue understood now, sitting under one of the huge trees that marked the beginning of the Forbidden Forest, surrounded by brown and orange and yellow and green leaves, that it wasn’t that she would never find someone for her, but rather, that she didn’t want someone other than him.
1995.
Prue was hating badly that year. Not even the cookie-scented breeze provided any consolation for how gross it was to have that damn pink toad (ruining her favorite color, by the way) shutting down basically everything good at Hogwarts.
What did serve as comfort, however, was the fact that Severus sympathized with her at her annoyance for that woman. One day, she had even managed to make him laugh — Severus bloody Snape, laughing openly in front of her. Prue had never seen anything so cute, something that could completely melt her cold heart. Her powerful memory perfectly captured that moment, treasuring it alongside the memory of two years ago. Those were things that she would never forget, things that would forever be in her heart, and things that were reproduced in her imagination while the pink toad taught her.
1996.
The echo of the rain traveled all the way down from the surface of the Dark Lake, the air up there being so wild that it dragged a lot of the fallen leaves and twigs into the water, making everyone thankful to be inside the castle, warm from the fire in the chimneys, eating pumpkin and butter biscuits.
Prue wasn't eating any biscuits however, but she didn’t mind. From the huge window she could clearly see how the Lake was disturbed by the storm, even though she was several feet below the surface. Beside her lay her teacher, fast asleep and more than likely exhausted. She took advantage of that moment to admire his features, so relaxed and soft, doing justice to the kind of person he was, to the feelings that were in him, and in her, and between them. She wanted to touch him, and caress him, and wander over his skin again, every part of his skin, with her lips.
Her memory was prodigious, and she knew every part of him.
But her body wasn't, and she was determined to tattoo her skin with his.
1997.
It wasn't going to be easy, she knew, even though they'd only been in school for a couple of months. Voldemort wasn't there, personally, but all the bloody putrefaction in him was. It was flooding London, and Diagon Alley, and Hogsmeade, and Hogwarts, and Severus. He looked worse every day, as if his own death was drawing closer and closer, and Prue knew it was a very likely possibility.
Not only was he at risk. Less, true, but she was also in danger, Voldemort's gaze was on her, very interested in her performance and with a clear desire to recruit her. She was powerful, young, gifted in Dark Arts and from a pure-blood family: Everything Voldemort valued.
And Prue was terrified, even though her expression was as blank as ever. For her to a lesser extent, for him mainly, and for whatever was in store for the Magical World.
But she would be strong, for the same reasons that terrified her, and one way or another, she would see Severus laugh again.
1998.
It had been several months since things were finally over, as far as Prue was concerned. The school year had started a bit late, but Hogwarts had finally reopened its doors to students. Minerva McGonagall was the headmistress, and Severus went back to the Potions, and she went back to him.
It was the first Saturday of the year. Severus was sitting next to her, both hiding in one of Hogwarts' secret gardens, where no one could find them except, perhaps, McGonagall, but the woman liked Severus (and Prue) enough to not interrupt their intimate time together.
‘Intimate’ as in holding hands, her head resting on his shoulder, whilst silently watching the sky, as so many years ago they had done. In the center of the garden was a tree, with leaves that were turning more and more yellow and orange. INot a single one had fallen yet, and Prue, for some reason, really wanted to witness the event.
The young girl, almost a woman now, turned her piercing green eyes from it to her companion. He was looking back at her now, black eyes with a different glow, one that brought life to his entire face and made her heart race like a restless child in summer. Without saying anything, because there was no need, the young woman approached him, closing her eyes, soon feeling the soft contact of his lips for the first time in a long time.
When Prue pulled away from Severus, out of the corner of her eye she noticed movement, and she turned just in time to see an orange and red-hued leaf hit the ground after gliding gently in the wind. She smiled like she only did when she was with him. Before giving him time to ask, because she knew that he had noticed her smile and felt the joy that basically radiated from her, the young woman spoke:
"I would like to spend the rest of my autumns with you”.
Severus didn't reply, but his smile said more than enough.

Alec and his Cinderella
Tumblr media
Word Count: 3,184 Alec x reader Part Two Warnings: Alec is aged up. Fluff Angst
“Alec? Is everything ok?” Ness’ soft voice broke the silence “No, Ness. Everything is not ok” He replied low, a slight sadness coming through. Ness stepped closer and wrapped an arm around his shoulder “Is-is that her shoe?” Ness asked “Yes, she…she lost it as she ran…as she ran away from me” He replied sadly “Don’t think of it that way Alec, maybe she had a curfew and was worried she’d be late” Ness tried to comfort him “She could have told me…I would have taken her home. She-she could have at least said goodbye” Ness noticed the sadness in his eyes and moved in front of him and gave him a gentle hug “How about we go home” She said softly and she felt him nod.
As soon as they were back at the Cullens Alec calls Demetri “Hi Alec, how are you?” “Demetri I…there’s this girl and she’s amazing; we talked and laughed and danced together all night…but then she left, just run away…losing a shoe in the process. I have the shoe with me and…I need you to help me find her” “You know how my gift works Alec, and her shoe will be of no help to me” Demetri’s voice held a slight amusement to it “Don’t be a dick! I know how your gift works. I need you to come here and pick through my head and find her tenor, her essence” Alec almost growls “Are you going to ask nicely Alec?” Demetri asks, Alec can hear the smile in his voice ‘oh he’s loving this’ Alec thought to himself “Can you come and help me find her…please?” Alec asks “I’ll be there as soon as I can” Demetri replies. Ness wraps an arm around Alec “It’ll be ok. If anyone can find her Alec, Demetri can”
Demetri arrives following day to find Alec pacing back and forth in the family room “You know you’re going to wear out the rug if you keep pacing” Jasper says smiling “I-I can’t help it. I…He’s here” Alec responds and flashes down the stairs to greet Demetri “That excited to see me huh?” He asks grinning “Yes! I am actually. You’re the only one who can help” Alec replies “Ok. Tell me what do you know of her? It’ll help me to pick her tenor out of the other humans you’ve met these past months” “That’s the thing Demetri…I don’t know much about her. I only met her once” Alec’s voice had an edge to it “Ok Alec. Take a breath and we’ll start with the obvious…what does she look like?” “I don’t know” He mumbled “Sorry!” Demetri shook his head “How do you not know what she looks like? You told me you spent the night talking and dancing with her” Demetri sounded shocked “I did but…I can only tell you she has Y/C/H and Y/C/E as it was a Masquerade Ball” Alec replied “Ok” Demetri pinched the bridge of his nose “Can you tell me anything else about her?” “Yes! I can tell you what she was wearing” Alec sounded excited “Wonderful. Because that’s going to help” Demetri replied “I’m sorry I can’t tell you anything else…it’s not like I expected her to run off at the end of the night” Alec yelled arms waving in the air “I know, I know Alec. I’m sorry…it’s just you’ve met a lot of humans recently and I just want to make sure I track down the right one for you” Demetri said softly.
A few minutes later Demetri sighed “This is going to be harder than thought…I-I’m struggling to find her…Oh…Uh…” “They call you the world’s best tracker. Ha –what use are you if you can’t even find one little human?” Alec snapped at Demetri “I never said I couldn’t find her. I know where she is…” “So you have found her?” Alec asked hope shining in his eyes “Yes…but…I just…I can’t just go and get her…not without starting a fight…a fight I can’t win…not on my own…I’m Sorry” Demetri tells Alec sympathetically “Then what am I supposed to do Demetri?” Alec asked, his eyes becoming glossy with venom “Speak to Ness…she can help…she’s the only one that can” Demetri answered honestly placing a hand on Alec’s shoulder “Come on Alec. I’ll come with you.”
They found Renesmee doing her homework in Alec’s room “Hope you don’t mind but it’s quieter here than home” She said as Alec entered the room “Not a problem, you know that. Look who I found outside” Alec replied nodding at Demetri over his shoulder “Demetri!” She called out and ran towards him; he caught her in his arms, her legs wrapping around his waist “Oh yeah. I forgot to mention Ness loves hugs” Alec said grinning at Demetri who looked surprised but hugged her back anyways “You don’t say” He adjusted his hold on her as she seemed in no rush to end the hug “Nice to see you too Ness” Demetri said smiling “Alec said you love hugs too” She said into his ear “Did he now?” Demetri eyed Alec who just smirked and shrugged “Are you staying long Demetri?” She asked “Well that depends…” “On what?” She asked as Demetri sat down on the desk chair Ness still his arms “On you” He answered; she pulled back a little to look at him “Me?” “Yes Ness, you” He laughed “Ok then. Spill” She replied smiling her arms still around Demetri’s neck, albeit a little looser now “Ok. So where to begin…remember the Masquerade Ball…” He began “Yes, Alec met a girl but…then she run off” She whispered the last part in Demetri’s ear “That is why I’m here. Alec asked me to help him find her” He added “Ooh so I get to see your gift in action?” She asked excitement lighting up her brown eyes, Demetri laughed and Alec rolled his eyes “Yes and I need your help too” “I’m in, anything I can do to help Alec” She replied giving smiling at Alec over her shoulder “Thank you Ness” Alec said smiling.
“So where do we start?” Ness asked “I have managed to pick up her tenor from Alec’s mind…” Demetri began “I feel a but coming” Ness said raising an eyebrow at Demetri “But I can’t go and get her or even take him to her…not without starting a fight…a fight that I can’t win on my own” Demetri saw the realisation flash through her eyes “You mean…she’s on the Reservation?” Ness asked cautiously and Demetri nodded at her “Ahh…that’s where you need me?” “Yes, but please don’t take it the wrong way Ness” Demetri said “It’s just I know that you’re allowed over there without any problems” He continued “Oh. No that’s ok. I get it and this is for Alec” She replied “Wait…What? The girl is on the reservation? Does that mean…?” Alec asked “I don’t know Alec. I can only tell you where she is not who or what she is” Demetri answered him.
Renesmee climbed off Demetri’s lap and smiled at him before turning to Alec “Well come on then. Lets’s go get you your girl” She says and turns to walk out of the room; Alec gets up without hesitation “What?” Alec asks as Demetri smirks at him “Nothing, just Ness says get up and well…” “Says the guy who caught her in his arms, holding close and letting her straddle him when he sat down in the chair” Alec replied with a smirk of his own “I couldn’t not catch her could I? And anyways like you said she likes a hug” Demetri replies winking at him “Come on you two” Ness calls poking her head back into the room “Coming cara mia” Demetri says smiling “Really?” Alec asks rolling his eyes as he follows them out to the car. “Shotgun” Ness calls and opens the front passenger door “Looks like you’re in the back Alec” Demetri says opening the driver’s door of his hire car “Whatever” He mumbles and climbs in the car.
“So how does this work Demetri?” Ness asks “You give me directions to where I have tracked her as I’ve never driven around Forks before and then you accompany us when we go and talk to her under the guise of returning her shoe” He answers her “Sounds like a good plan? Ready Alec to finally meet her?” “Yes, but I am a little nervous…what if she doesn’t like me” Alec replied low “Then she’s an idiot and doesn’t deserve you” Ness replied rather matter of factly “Ness, I know you know the people on the reservation, but do me a little favour and stay by my side please. I don’t fancy taking on your family if anything happens to you” Demetri says softly “Of course. I don’t like the odds of eight versus two either” Ness replied “Not to mention Jake” Alec added “Arrgh. Don’t even go there” Ness sounded frustrated “Problems in doggy paradise?” Demetri asked in a teasing tone “Yes actually” Ness replied “Wow! Going to let the ‘doggy’ comment go huh?” He asked “Yes Demetri I am and I’ll you why. He is overbearing, over protective and he thinks he has a right to tell me what to do, where to go and who I can be friends with. Alec will back me up right?” “He is a bit of a prick Dem. He seems to think he owns her just because he imprinted on her. Really doesn’t like us two hanging out together either” Alec replied “Ahh so that’s why you do your homework with Alec in his room and not at home, because you know he won’t come over” Demetri mused “Exactly. He’s waiting for me to fall in love with him but… I don’t feel that way about him. I mean would you want to be someone who was in love with your mom for nearly two years despite her loving someone else; the same person who goes from wanting to kill you because you ‘killed’ your mom whilst being born, to suddenly forgetting all about your mom and declaring his love for you…just because he imprinted on you?” Ness asked; Demetri turned to look at her shock clearly written on his face “Just making sure I understand you...the dog was in love with your mom despite her being with Edward” Ness nods “He then wanted to kill you because she ‘died’ giving birth to you but instead he imprinted on you once he saw you” She nods again “And he wonders why you’re not in love with him?” “Yep you got it” Ness replies “Jake hasn’t taken the fact that he’s been friend-zoned for eternity well” Alec laughed “That’s his problem not Ness’. Oh and by the way we’re here” Demetri says looking at Alec over his shoulder “Ok. Give me a minute” Alec responds.
They get out of the car and make their way towards the beach; Ness staying by Demetri’s side as he asked. Ness noticed Jake and some of the pack on the beach and instinctively tensed, something Demetri noticed “You’re ok. I meant what I said nothing will happen to you whilst I’m here” “Thank you Demetri” She replied, slipping her small hand in his. “You tracked her here?” Alec asked looking around “Yes…she’s close. You’ll have to follow her scent from here” Demetri replied “That’s going to be a problem…I don’t think she had a scent” “Are you sure Alec? Think. Did she have a scent…even a faint one?” Demetri asked “No Demetri, she had no scent…oh I’m never going to find her” Alec’s voice held a sadness that Ness didn’t like “Yes you will. Demetri and I will help you anyway we can” Ness said giving him a small smile “Ness is right. We’ll help; it’s why I’m here remember. Also you said you remember her hair and eye colour so that should help. Hopefully you’ll recognise her” Demetri added.
The pack noticed the familiar scent of Renesmee and the scent of two vampires, one of which they knew belonged to Alec. “What are they doing here?” Jake growled as he neared Renesmee “That’s none of your business” Ness answered “Wrong! You bought them onto our land so it is my business” He stepped closer to Ness; Demetri squeezed her hand gently reminding her that he was there and she was safe. Jake noticed this and his whole demeanour changed “You’re with HIM?!” Jake growled and pointed at Demetri “What if she is? It’s nothing to do with you. You’re just friends” Demetri replied calmly keeping hold of Ness’ hand. Jake started snarling and shaking “Jake…Don’t!” Leah called out running over; Demetri let go of Ness’ hand and gently pushed her behind him and took a protective stance in front of her, Alec doing the same. Jake phased and bared his fangs at both vampires “Jake! Stop!” Leah tried again “Sam!” Leah called and Sam came running “JAKE! BACK OFF…NOW” Sam used his alpha voice commanding Jake to stand down. Jake snarled and snapped his jaw at Demetri; he didn’t flinch, he didn’t move, he stood his ground in front of Ness.
“We didn’t come for a fight. We came because Demetri tracked a girl here…a girl I met a few days ago at the Masquerade Ball. We talked and danced together…before she ran off after noticing the time. She left in such a hurry she lost a shoe. See” Alec said looking at Sam and holding up the shoe. “Alec’s right we didn’t come for a fight Sam. We know we are in your territory, which is why we bought Ness with us hoping you would allow us to find the girl. I mean I came all the way from Italy to track her so Alec could return a shoe” Demetri added. “I have no quarrel with either of you, you can carry out the task you came to do with no interference from us. If we can be of any help just let us know” Sam said before turning and making his way back to his friends “Jake” He called and Jake followed, not before growling once more at Demetri.
After nearly two hours of trying to find the girl they decided to call it day and to try again tomorrow; Demetri drove them back to the Cullen house and they made their way inside, Edward meeting them at the top of the stairs “Demetri, a word. Please?” Demetri followed Edward into Carlisle’s study “Can you explain what you are doing with my daughter?” “I asked for Ness’ help in tracking down Alec’s potential mate as she is the only one of us who is allowed on the reservation and whilst there I stopped her from getting mauled by that stupid dog. I was under the impression if I returned her to you in any condition other than the one she left here in, there would be trouble. Was I wrong to think that? Should I have let her be mauled Edward?” He replied; Edward didn’t answer him “Let me assure you Edward that Ness is as safe with me as she is with Alec” Edward nodded “It’s just Jake isn’t…” “Liking the fact that he’s been friend-zoned?” Demetri interjected “Exactly. I understand her decision completely and to be honest I’m happy about it” Edward replied “I bet...seeing as the guy used to be in love with Bella…thus making Ness his second choice and…she deserves better than that” Demetri said and Edward nodded “Sorry Demetri it’s just…” “Don’t worry about it. You were just checking your daughter was safe…I get it” Demetri cut him off “If you don’t mind though I need to find Ness and Alec, apparently Ness has a movie night planned that I simply am not allowed to miss” “Ha – Yea, good luck with that one” Edward said laughing “You may regret it later”
That night Ness introduced Demetri to the world of Disney “Wow! So many princesses. You’ve seen these how many times Alec?” Demetri asked “More than I can remember” Alec replied laughing “Oi. Be nice you two. They’re good films” Ness said looking between the two male vampires; the three of them lying on Alec’s bed with Ness in the middle “I must admit I think Beauty and the Beast is my favourite so far” Demetri smiled at her “Really?” She asked and he hummed in response “That’s my favourite one too” “My favourite is Alice in Wonderland” Alec added. They continued to watch Disney movies until Ness fell asleep, Demetri and Alec then chose to watch The Hunger Games movies.
“You seem to get along well with her Alec” Demetri said low “Yea, she’s fun to be around and it’s interesting because she is really is like us except she has a heartbeat and needs to sleep. Oh and not to mention she’s warmer than her human counterparts” Alec replied low “I noticed that earlier when she held my hand that she felt rather warm but her skin wasn’t as soft as a humans” Demetri said looking down at Ness sleeping between them “She loves to hunt… in fact she prefers our diet to theirs” Alec whispered “Really? Who would have thought” Demetri chuckled low “Speaking of how’s the change of diet going?” “I’ve gotten used to it…it was easier to swap to their diet than leave the city to hunt…especially after Ness made her revelation and asked to come with me…” Demetri choked back a laugh “She showed me how to hunt animals instead. We make it a competition to see who can take down the biggest animal” Alec added. “You’ve hunted animals in the past…we both have” Demetri said low “I know, but she was so excited to show me how to hunt animals…I couldn’t tell her and anyways it helped us bond as ‘siblings’” “I can understand that…it’s a little weird to see you with amber eyes though” Demetri replied “Wait till she offers to show you how to hunt animals” Alec said laughing low “Hey, I may be over 1000 years old but I’m not about to rain on her parade so…if she wants to ‘teach’ me how to hunt animals, I’ll let her” Demetri replied low.
The following afternoon Demetri tracked the girl to Port Angeles “Yay! A shopping trip” Ness said excitedly “Sorry to disappoint you but we may not get much shopping done as we are going to find ‘Cinderella’” Demetri replied “Aww, you just made a Disney reference” Ness smiled at him “It’s a similar situation isn’t it, only difference is we can’t go asking random girls to try the shoe on” Demetri chuckled “You’ve called the girl Cinderella?” Alec asked “It’s better than ‘the girl’” Ness replied smiling “Ready to go?” Demetri asked “Yes. Shotgun” Ness said as she run out to the car “I think she’s more excited to go shopping than help me today” Alec chuckled “She’s a girl and I said the magic words. What’d you expect?” Demetri replied smiling “Come on Alec your Cinderella awaits”

[Part 1] [Part 68] [Part 70] [Tag Yourself Here]
Stepping out from your appointment at the physio, you saw Mister Dong leaning against his car. He hadn't noticed you had seen him thank gosh. Immediately you became suspicious, what was he doing here, you glanced around casually and checked your phone only to see it ringing. It was his name on the screen. Could you pretend it wasn't ringing? Would he know you were lying? Would you care if he knew?
Sighing discreetly, you answered the phone, "Hello?" You asked starting to walk to the cafe Wendy had said she would be working but you were there to meet with Mal-chin. He had asked to see you and it seemed kind of important.
"Ah miss y/n, how are you this morning?" His voice was condescending and you knew he was hiding something and trying to lord it over you.
"Kind of busy, I am meeting a friend for lunch?" You said politely and yet still with authority.
"I was wondering if you had time for a quick chat, your brother and his girlfriend are going on a get away holiday are they not?" He said smugly and you bit your lip and continued to walk away, that asshole. "Do you still not have time to-"
You cut him off, "Hello?" You said trying to sound genuinely confused "Hello, Mister Dong are you there?"
"Hello, yes I am here?" His voice came through clearly and you held your phone up in the air having muted the phone and started shouting that the service was bad while muting and unmuting the phone stealthily with your thumb. disconnecting the call in the middle of your talking "Hello are you the-"
That ought to keep him busy for a while, you thought continuing down the road without looking back. But what he said really hit you, he had faked a get away holiday for your brother and his girlfriend, you dropped Thomas and Areum a text and they understood your warning that Mister Dong planned it to get them away from you. They agreed that they would keep an eye out for trouble but would definitely use the trip anyway for a free trip and paid leave from the company.
There wasn’t much time for thought as you arrived at the cafe, Wendy waved to you from behind the bad her Plum coloured hair standing out amongst the other staff members. She was such a bubbly young lady you honestly couldn’t fathom not meeting her. She reminded you of yourself when you were not so -- for lack of a better word -- Damaged.
She was a good influence, she reminded you to be happy in the moment, and not to dwell. Sure your mind was full of what if’s, but if you were out having a good time with people you love and trusted; she taught you to push the worries aside. If for a moment and have fun, it surprised you how afterwards you would think over the events. All the things you had worried about leading up to the events, seemed irrelevant, they were all for nothing.
Mouthing to her and gesturing to her beautiful make up she blushed and looked down concentrating on her pour. Giggling you turned to see Mal-chin sitting at a table, his knee jutting in away that reminded you of a young teens impatience and boredom. His hair was on the longer side, with the whole quarantine thing, he wouldn’t have time for a haircut. Even when you met it was a tad shaggy, like your dark phase in highschool or the fourth year in harry potter.
Mal-chin gave you a brilliant smile and you took off your coat sitting down, you didn’t miss his glance towards your choice of shirt, it was a v neck but you didn’t think it was distasteful. The boy was a teen of course and he was respectful enough to quickly look away. It reminded you of Seokjin’s whining that morning about your choice of shirt.
“Hey Mal-chin, how is your dad?” “He is good, he has been a little busy though,” He smiled. It mustn't seem bad to have some space at his age. “I have been working hard and look here at my text scores, my teacher says if I keep this up I will get accepted in the S Medical University.”
“That is so exciting,” You smiled as Wendy came over to take your order. Mal-chin Ordered a Chai latte with cinnamon on top and you ordered a dark chocolate mocha iced. The conversation and banter between you three was great, they brought up your speech and cute phrase and you blamed Wendy. Who when she finished her shift she suggested you three go to the movies and watch some new romance comedy.
Looking at Mal-chin making sure he wasn’t uncomfortable he was smiling brilliantly, and the two were off leaving you to try and catch. They were walking along and window shopping and you received a call from Bang Si-hyuk who asked you to come for an important meeting.
“Hey guys, I have to go back early. I got a meeting but you too have fun and tell me how the movie goes” You grinned racing back to the Bighit headquarters and were ushered through security and up to one of the top floors for the meeting.
Everyone was there and waiting, bowing politely you rushed to your seat, “Sorry I am late, I came as fast as my leg allowed”
“Miss y/n, I saw you on television delivering a very powerful speech,” Mister Bang smiled cheekily, “We all have our memorable speeches”
Flushing as you remembered your fumble on stage in front of millions, “Ah yes, I have learnt the correct phrase now and will remember it well”
“We are here to revisit your relationship with the boys and I must say recently you have been in good favors with the Army and well, it doesn’t seem like they would be against you dating a member, we are thinking we can use this as a test. To see how they react to someone dating a member.”
You nodded listening intently “As Seokjin is the oldest, we are thinking perhaps he could be the other party public advertised in the relationship and then your presence with the band won't be questioned. Of course we expect to lose some of the fan base but we want to know how many exactly still support the band.” Mister Bang sighed before taking a drink of water.
“We don’t want a Hyuna and Edawn situation on our hands, if you can still be successful we won’t kick you out, if the effects are to negative we will deny the allegations and say you were working together for an upcoming project,” You watched the CEO discuss your relationship feeling kind of exposed but kept quiet. “If this works you can publicly move with the band if not, you will move behind the scenes in secret”
“That sounds fair sir” Nodding to show your understanding he smiled before turning to the bored
“Before we finalise this does anyone have anything to say on the matter, I want the band, the company and yourself to be well represented.”
“I think you should see this sir,” Mister Dong said showing an article that had your picture on it dressed in a Hazmat suit with a gun and the article was exposing you for killing someone during quarantine and not being a saint or saviour.
“This complicates things. I am so sorry, I cannot bring this onto my company and group, perhaps when everything dies down we can try again.” He said with a deep sigh rubbing his face “Ah… I was actually so happy and ready for you guys to start dating.”
“Hey whatever she did was self defense and we can have the article taken down and marked as defamation of character, we can say it was an attempt to tear her down.” Namjoon said standing and you slumped into your chair, head tilted back. This was like an earthquake, splitting your world in two.
“It would be best if you aren’t seen entering our building for a while and I ask that you don’t stay with the boys anymore it is too risky to have you seen, it is funny how one little thing changes everything” Mr Dong smirked eyeing you with mock pity he walked around the table and touched your shoulder. “I will drive you home.”
“Hey y/n, before you go don’t lose hope, look everything is up in the air again let’s give it a week and revisit the decision” Mr Bang said trying to reassure you.

Hey there! I read A Spanish Tale and I loved it so much thus far, and I am super excited about the chapters that are yet to come!!! One of my favourite parts will have to be when Martín and Andrés are discussing about the real handcuffs and rope (I literally laughed so hard). That scene, combined with the things you have said about them being switches (100% agreed btw), made me wonder: what other, ehh, NSWF,,, headcanons do you have about them, if you have any (and if you're comfortable answering that question)?
Also, whilst writing this ask, I suddenly remembered how Andrés once said (I think in season 1 episode 8, but I'm not very sure, definitely in season 1 though) how he'd rather that Tokyo would visit him wearing a corset instead of a bulletproof vest. I personally can't really see Martín wearing one though, so I now headcanon Andrés as having a corset kink and he'll have to suffer through the pain of it himself, because Martín refuses to sksksksksk (and now I'll try and go back to being, like... a functional human with normal thoughts ewbfvueiwhe)
Hi! So sorry for how late this is. I'm so glad you liked the Ramadan Telenovela (and hope you liked the last chapters) thanks a lot!
Ah, so happy you did! Still surprised (and appreciative of) at how well-received this part was!
I don't think I have a lot of headcanons about their sex life. Mainly because I think, before each-other at least, both of them are pretty....basic. lmfao. Like with Martín, the impression I got from him was that sex for him is just something to get over with, get it done quickly and clears his head or whatever, while with Andrés I tend to think the way he approached sex was to just "prove" himself and his manliness, whatever the fuck that means, and he prioritized that even over his own pleasure; he gets there to try and impress but also while remaining in the pretty vanilla category, maybe with some teasful playing here and there. BUT I do believe that once they get together and Andrés accepts the relationship fully, both would want to try everything with the other, and this time putting much more meaning to it, I guess.
Having said that, some of my preferred headcanons for the after:
That they are turned on by the other being a bit bloodied
They can't get in a "scene" in the strict meaning of the world because they both constantly ruin the roleplay
Andres is super into it when Martin is in a military uniform
While they are excited to try out different things and positions, both are men nearing on their fifties who haven't done any form of exercising for the longest time and just absolutely not fit for it anymore, which results in them breaking down laughing in the middle of it all the time.
Martín makes up tons of shit about gay sex just to see how far Andrés would believe him.
I don't have more at the moment. Honestly with headcanons and the like, I come up with them either when they hit me out of nowhere or during writing.
As for the corset thing, I LOVE this, and also if you're interested in seeing Andrés in a corset, I 100% recommend you to check out Rocinan's Pretty Face, Electric Grace. Not only will find all of your heart desires, but also, in the accompanying series in the same universe, you get to see Andrés put Martín in a dress and it's as perfect as you can imagine, as you predicted Martín does refuse to put on a corset, but Andrés is in one, so a delight for us all. Please don't afshsj and keep those thoughts coming at me!

The Crusade / Chpt. 4
Tumblr media
For you, it’s a crusade. For me, it’s a job. Isn’t that what Flip had told Ron nearly a year ago? And now, here he is, his entire world turned on it’s head, smack dab in the middle of a crusade of his own.
A post-BlackKklansman fic in which Flip’s next major assignment is to infiltrate and uncover the inner workings of mob crime that’s moved into the Colorado Springs Area. He’d been ready for the drugs and the danger. What he hadn’t been ready for was you. This can also be found on AO3.
Warnings: Graphic depictions of violence, Mention of drug use Template credit: cashwmere
“A fucking body guard, that’s what you want me to be?”
The door to Clyde’s office has just closed, your ass barely meeting the leather seat when Flip pushes back with a huff. You wait silently, a hand reaching for the pack of Nazionali cigarettes on the desk to retrieve one, putting it to your lips before lighting it with the nearby Zippo. A single brow raises in silent inquiry whilst you listen to Flip huff and puff about how he’s ‘not anyone’s fuckin’ body guard’.
There’s a slight curve to your lips while you inhale a puff of nicotine, the only sign that there’s any hint of amusement with regard to what you’re witnessing right now. Flip knows he’s got to play the part, got to do whatever’s asked of him, but this? He shakes his head, hand waving about animatedly as if to emphasize his point. “You’re underestimating my value to you.”
“Am I?” You’re quick to counter, both brows raising upward now, your eyes tracking him around the room as he paces. “Sit.” The stern tone to your voice leaves Flip with zero room for any sort of retort, the smoke from the cigarette that’s gripped between your fingers wafting towards the ceiling when you point with your index and middle fingers towards the two seats in front of the desk. Almost immediately, Flip’s steps halt, his gaze dropping down from you to the seats. He reaches for the one closest to him, scooting it out just enough to step around it, one hand reaching for the button of his jacket, undoing it just as he lowers himself down onto the chair.
Silence falls between the two of you, the only sound that can be heard in the room is that of you retrieving a cigarette from your pack to offer it up to Flip, the plastic covering of the pack crinkling against your fingers. He takes it from you, placing the butt of it between his lips. He leans in and you do the same, holding the flame of your Zippo up to help him ignite the end of his cigarette. Flip mutters a ‘thank you’ before leaning back into his seat. Metal thunks against the desk’s wooden top when you set the lighter aside, settling back into your chair to eye him up, the two of you allowing the silence to drag on longer as you both puff your way through your respective cigarettes, neither of you relenting.
It isn’t until Flip huffs a breath through his nose that you speak up. “The last thing that I am doing is underestimating you.”
“Oh? That so?” Careful, he thinks to himself. He can already tell by your expression that he’s pushed the boundaries too far. He’ll need to relax, let things take their course if he’s to finish this mission in one piece. His eyes follow the movement of your hand when the cigarette is pulled away from your mouth after inhaling another breath, smoke billowing from your lips as you tap the ash into the nearby ashtray.
You’re silent a minute longer, eyes assessing the man sitting before you, taking him in and deliberating how you’ll deliver these next words. “Don’t think of it as a bodyguard position, Vinnie. You’re essentially going to be my right hand man.”
Now this, this was the in that he needed.
He says nothing at first, instead, slowly nodding his head in understanding. “You don’t know me from Adam,” he retorts just before taking another drag of his cigarette.
Like him, you nod now, snuffing out your cigarette in the ashtray, perfectly manicured hand pushing the tray in his direction. “You’re right. I don’t. But, those goons in there,” you start, pointing in the direction of where the two of you’d come from earlier, “aren’t capable of walking without tripping over their own two feet. I wouldn’t trust them with the business if my life depended on it. Which, if this operation doesn’t get up and running successfully, it might very well. Besides…” You take a moment, crossing your legs beneath the desk, hands coming to lay on the armrests of the chair. “I just told you to jump, and you didn’t ask me how high. You just...did.”
There’s an iciness in your voice, one that settles itself into his bones, sends a chill up along his spine and sets the hair on the back of his neck upright, muscles tensing at the satisfied smile that stretches across your features.
Another long pause settles between the two of you, Flip now sucking on his cigarette again while you hold each other’s gazes. “Since you’re already on the clock—”
“Oh, am I?” The rhetorical question both cuts you off mid-sentence as well as elicits a daggered stare on your part. If looks could kill, Flip thinks to himself with only the most minute sliver of amusement.
“Yes,” you bite back, “you are.” Flip notices the way your index finger twitches against the arm of the chair with the agitation that courses through your veins, and yet you fail to do anything about that smart mouth of his.
Interesting.
He notes this bit of information, tucks it away in the back of his mind for future use. Perhaps he can use this little bit of knowledge to his advantage later should the need for it arise.
“As I was saying, there’s going to be a dinner here tonight. The restaurant’s shutting down early to accommodate. Consider it a meeting of clients old and new.” You fall silent again, taking a moment to assess him once more. This time, Flip is smart, his mouth is closed and he’s saying nothing, doing nothing other than smoking the last of his cigarette. “You’re going to accompany me. If I’m going to open this new business of mine up correctly, I’ll need all the help I can get, and you’ve found your way to the top of my list. Lucky you.”
The corners of Flip’s lips twitch up into the faintest smirk, and he leans forward to snuff out the cigarette stub in the offered ashtray that sits atop the desk. “What time do you need me to be there,” he asks, leaning back in his seat.
Your eyes shift from his face over to the small clock that sits on top of the desk next to a family photo that includes you, your father, mother, and siblings. “Seven-thirty, and not a second later.” Swinging your attention back to him, a single brow raised in challenge. “You got that?”
Flip’s head nods slowly. “Got it, boss.”
There’s an edge to his voice, one that teeters on sarcasm and makes your pulse jump with both irritation and…is that excitement? Perhaps that’s why you’d let him go on for so long, so brazenly cutting in when he’s meant to keep that mouth of his shut.
“Good. Now, go on. I’m sure my father and Pat aren’t quite done with you yet.” You dismiss him with a wave of your hand, allowing him to retreat back to the back room where the Craps game is still taking place, sans one participant.
In a handful of hours you’ll be face to face with Flip once more. From all outward appearances, he seemed plenty capable of doing this job, but the real test would come at tonight’s dinner.

Black and Yellow
Since visiting Derek Jarman’s Prospect Cottage in Dungeness last month, I’ve sat down on several occasions intending to share the experience with you. But distilling my thoughts wasn’t easy! The place left my head so full of thoughts and stirred a lot of emotion in me, and transcribing the singular magic of it into words felt beyond me. Each time I’d lose the tousle with my brain, and clap the laptop shut again.
Then I found the following starting point; a quote from Howard Sooley, photographer and friend of Derek Jarman, that described the setting I found myself in, on arrival to the cottage, perfectly.
“Pulling up on Dungeness Road, I stared out of the car window on to a post-apocalyptic nuclear vision: a long, snaking road strung with a line of black fishermen’s cottages like tar-covered fairy lights; a beach strewn in a mess of seemingly abandoned fishing boats and huts, which looked like they’d just tumbled from the sky and landed randomly among the sea kale that inhabited the beach.
   — Howard Sooley for Gardens Illustrated
Tumblr media
And now, I think, with that striking scene set, I can continue...
Discovering Derek Jarman
On one particular stay at my aunt and uncle’s house in Cheltenham years ago, there was an addition to the mantelpiece in my bedroom: a dried sprig of sea kale in a narrow white vase. My aunt recounted how she and my uncle had lately travelled to Dungeness, a headland on the coast of Kent, and how she had found the pretty bit of plant blowing across the shingle there. They had been to see the cottage and garden of a man whose name I did not then recognise, Derek Jarman; “a very special place”. And, I was told that in the front room there was a book entitled Derek Jarman’s Garden, from which I could learn more.
Tumblr media
From my aunt’s introductory account, to each article and interview I have since read or watched regarding Derek Jarman since, I have found him only to be described in the fondest, most admiring manner. Those who are aware of his story, or who were lucky enough to have had their lives directly touched by him, laud his generous spirit and remain in awe of his remarkable array of talents, from film-maker to set designer, from optimist to activist, from gardener to diarist and author. He is remembered not only as being one of the most influential figures of 20th century culture, but also for his breathtaking humility, prolific activism for gay rights (via protest as well as his artistic output - much of which served as a manifesto for open homosexuality), inspiration and support for young and aspiring film makers and creatives. Award-winning costume designer and friend of Jarman’s Sandy Powell sums up his inherent warmth of character and contagious passion for whatever he turned his hand to in a recent interview with Phillips Auction House:
“Derek said to me that there was absolutely no point in going to work every day unless you went with the same excitement as if you were going to a party. With him, I’d get to work every morning and I would be so excited about going to work.
[...] He just immediately made you feel comfortable, and you were never ever made to feel inferior. Even on a film set, he’d be sat there, waiting for the next setup, and I remember there were times when he would ask the person who was sweeping the floor of the set what he thought. He’d talk aloud about his ideas. He’d set something up and say, "What do you think about that? Should we do this?" and he’d actually listen to what that person had to say. Anybody. He’d listen to what any of us had to say, and I think we were all treated completely equally"
   — Sandy Powell, interviewed by Phillips
My aunt located her copy of Derek Jarman’s Garden for me later that day - a smallish, unassuming publication, on the verge of being swallowed up by the heaving art library that surrounded it (my uncle and aunt are both artists themselves). I was enthralled by it, poring the pages for the rest of my stay.

Having spotted a ‘for sale’ sign whilst filming close by, Derek Jarman sought refuge in his Dungeness fisherman’s cottage after being diagnosed as HIV positive in 1986. He dedicated himself to creating a paradisiacal and sustaining garden in the salty, exposed shingle which skirted his new home.
“Dungeness was England through the looking glass, not William Blake’s bucolic vision of a Jerusalem in this ‘green and pleasant land’. Stark, barren, the sun searing down or rain whipping across the landscape – everything seemed to be dying. Bleached by the sun, ripped by the wind, eaten by salt, laid bare and exposed by the enormity of the sky. A world stripped to its bones, abandoned and motionless except for the dried seedheads of sea kale blowing like tumbleweed in the shadow of the power station. The images are etched in my memory.”
   — Howard Sooley for Gardens Illustrated
...a pretty tall task then . But that’s what he did. Choosing a spectrum of plants that could stand up to the testing climes of his “Ness”, largely low-lying to endure high winds, others that were already indigenous of the area, Derek Jarman transformed Prospect Cottage into a defiant monument of imagination and hope.
Tumblr media
An unforgettable day in Dungeness
Gradually the landscape flattened, the villages became fewer and further between, then villages became hamlets, and then there was nobody, save the odd remote farmhouse - we wondered how far they must have to travel for groceries!  Then human presence came almost to a standstill, and it felt like we had gatecrashed a sci-fi movie set. Fencing lined the road, periodic signs warning people away from the military firing range, still not a soul to be seen. We weren’t tempted to trespass - it was all pretty spooky!
And then, on the horizon, a giant appeared. The jagged grey silhouette of Dungeness A and Dungeness B - not one, but two massive nuclear power stations. We popped Boards of Canada on the stereo. I challenge you for a better accompaniment to such a sight.
“The nuclear power station is a wonderment. At night it looks like a great liner or a small Manhattan ablaze with a thousand lights of different colour.”
   — Derek Jarman, from Derek Jarman’s Garden
We continued along the silent road a while longer, and then suddenly it was there. Years of wondering about the garden, and then there it was, right there, just by the side of the road... no fence, no gate, no borders or barriers of any kind. No separation from the outside at all.
I was relieved to see a handful of people around, though it still felt astonishingly desolate. We pulled up right outside the cottage, amazed it was that easy.
Tumblr media
A jewel in the string of tiny rustic dwellings, and a David to the looming Goliath backdrop of the two nuclear plants, Prospect Cottage bursts with vitality and  vibrance. Emanating a kind of otherworldly, magical quality, it flourishes where all else is bleak, tangerine coloured Californian poppies and sunshine yellow window frames laughing proudly.
“At first, people thought I was building a garden for magical purposes – a white witch out to get the nuclear power station. It did have magic – the magic of surprise, the treasure hunt.”
   — Derek Jarman, from Derek Jarman’s Garden
Just as there are no borders, there are no strict lines or flower beds to speak of. Santolina, valerian and the odd red hot poker rise straight from the sea-worn shingle floor, while sea kale sprawls in patches. Hemispheres of gorse and vertically pegged driftwood add degrees of height, while talismanic stone circles and flotsam sculptures ensure the eye is never short of interest. Jarman would comb the beach every morning for new metal treasures, rocks and interesting things washed up by the sea. He’d always reap the biggest rewards following a storm.
Tumblr media
“The stones, especially the circles, remind me of dolmens, standing stones. They have the same mysterious power to attract.”
   — Derek Jarman, from Derek Jarman’s Garden
Tumblr media
“The sticks and sculptures [...] also had the unexpected gift of providing much-welcomed perches for the migratory birds that navigate over the ness every year. Rare warblers from Russia would stand and catch their breath, staring in at the kitchen window. Then, without warning, they’d lift into the air, catch the wind and be off again to some far and distant land.”
 — Howard Sooley for Gardens Illustrated
Tumblr media
^ Derek Jarman also scoured the land around the nuclear power plant for bits and pieces to use in the garden, some of it detritus from the Second World War
Already I had felt the enchantment of Derek Jarman’s living legacy exuding from those pages of my aunt’s book, but experiencing it in the flesh was on a different level. It’s as though he left a message there, everlastingly poised and waiting to be received by anyone who visits.
Standing amidst such a unique and spectacular achievement, by a man who had been dealt such a cruel fate, made me feel incredibly appreciative for all that I have, all that is so easy for me. His life was cut too short, but undoubtedly lived more fully than many who have reached a much older age.
It also gave me new confidence that in my own creativity I am doing something worthwhile, and that by staying true to myself and not allowing conformity to stifle my output, I can add my own dose of originality and something truly unique to the world.
Tumblr media

“He was just really encouraging to all young people, and I think that’s what this house could be. It’s this really open house to encourage people to come and be creative and get as much as they can out of it, and I think he would have wanted that.”
  — Sandy Powell, interviewed by Phillips

Long live the legacy
The future of Prospect Cottage was recently left up in the air following the passing of Keith Collins, Derek’s companion during his years in Dungeness, and in whose hands he left the cottage following his death in 1994.
The Art Fund launched a campaign to save the property from being sold off and falling into private ownership. The £3.5 million required was raised in just ten weeks.
“Securing the future of Prospect Cottage may seem a minor thing by comparison with the global epidemic crisis which has recently enveloped all our lives. But Derek Jarman’s final years at the Cottage were an inspiring example of human optimism, creativity and courage battling against the ravages of illness. In that context, the success of this campaign seems all the more apposite and right for its time.”
— Stephen Deuchar, Director of Art Fund
“Prospect Cottage will become not a memorial encased in amber, but an active memory. Not an ossified monument, but a breathing testament to a life still awaiting future collaborators”
 — Douglas Fogle for Art Forum

^ The frontward outlook of Prospect Cottage
The whole place is jaw-droppingly unique, the garden itself a post-modern feat of ingenuity. Eerie, exciting, bleak, inspiring... only describable to a point. I implore you not to trust my interpretation and instead go and marvel at it for yourself! And prepare to have it stay with you long after...

The Flicker of Rebellion (2)
Tumblr media
Requested by: @calkesttiss | Prompt:
Ooo what about Cal and reader going undercover and having to wear inquisitor or trooper uniforms
Cal Kestis x Reader
Previous: Part 1 | Next: Part 3 | Masterlist
2 of ?
Everybody each had their own plate full.
For instance, Cere eventually became part of the communications and data encryption team—her knack of splicing, hacking and redirecting communication signals greatly factored to her contribution to the team.
Merrin, on the other hand, found her extensive knowledge with plants and herbs that can be turned to potions that may help with the recovery of the patients in the medical ward.
Meanwhile, you and Cal were working on your own lightsabers, tweaking and polishing your weapons to pass the time.
“Do you think we will have to use our lightsabers before we could reach the archives vault?” you asked out of deep thought while shining the sleeve of your saber.
Cal paused from his own lightsaber and saw the expression on your face. The concern was all over your face despite your pensive tone. He places his hand on your lap.
“Let’s hope not, [y/n],”
Your lip pursed into a smile. A few minutes later, a rebel fighter came walking towards your general direction—he has taken on the role of messenger, relaying the message from the captain himself. The two of you were being summoned to see him in the conference hall from earlier; dropping everything and letting the messenger boy lead the way, either of you had a feeling that this has something to do with the mission.
“Captain? The Jedi are here,”
“Send them in,”
The messenger steps aside from the narrow, open doorway. He dismisses himself as soon as you step into the conference hall. Turns out the captain wasn’t alone. He was accompanied by a woman clad in a different uniform that neither you nor Cal have seen until now.
“Afternoon, Cap,” you casually greet, helping yourself to a seat by the first row of benches to which Cal seats himself next to you.
“Afternoon, [y/n], Cal. I suppose you two are wondering why I’ve called you here,” he gestured to the woman, she steps forward to the holotable, and she reveals a trunk that she has probably been holding while awaiting you both.
The captain proceeded to introduce the woman.
“This is Riva Fane. She is one of our analysts helping us with this operation, and she has been working on your… peripherals for the mission.”
Riva flicked the trunk open and revealed two sets of clothes—one was recognizably an Imperial officer’s gray uniform, whilst the other was a mysterious article of clothing but you immediately noticed the hints of red over the black body color.
“The spies managed to steal an officer’s garb—as you can see, it’s the gray one,” Riva proceeded to take out the uniform from the case. “And we strongly presume this was Cal’s size.”
“And this one?” you point at the black uniform.
“That,” Riva clicked her tongue. “Would be yours, [y/n]. Go ahead, take it out of the case.”
Holding it by the shoulder part, you pull out the clothing from the container as Riva instructed, once fully out of the case Cal’s eyes and yours widened, your lips parted as you hoisted your apparent disguise.
“An Inquisitor’s garment?”
“I did some digging on the current Inquisitors. It seems that they weren’t exactly complete from one to whatever number they end with.”
“So what number am I going for here?”
“Glad you asked!”
Riva Fane’s overall perkiness and enthusiasm over her personal fashion project was a complete contrast to what you’re feeling right now; but then again, your emotions are so mixed up that you couldn’t pinpoint what emotion you’re having at the moment. Riva placed a hologram puck in the center of the table and switched it on.
“The roster of Inquisitors is incomplete, I don’t think they bother even filling up the list,” Riva points out as a row of the Inquisitors and their information pop out of the hologram, she waves her hand over the projection as she went on with her exposition.
“Nevertheless, the Inquisitors answer to Darth Vader, the head of it all,” Riva’s perky tone melted into a fearful, softened voice as soon as she flashed the projection the Sith Lord’s profile. There was a shudder in her voice which you and Cal completely understand.
“You two obviously know the Second and Ninth Sisters. But the roster currently has the Fifth, Sixth, and Eighth Brothers as well as the Seventh Sister—they have no last known contact with the base in Cheth. It is highly likely that none of them have gone here recently as our spies didn’t pick up anything that may clue us on that, although all of their present whereabouts are unknown.”
“I honestly don’t know whether to be frightened or impressed by this,” Cal half-jokes.
“I only asked what Inquisitor Sister I’m impersonating as,” you add.
“Oh! Sorry about that, I suppose I got a little too carried away with the info,” Riva clears her throat. “You will go by the Sixth Sister.”
“Is there a known Sixth Sister—whether dead or alive?”
“Neither! It’s a totally, whole person—which is kind of an advantage,”
“I think I’ll have to make it an advantage. Either way, I think we can handle it,”
Riva lets you take the case with you on your way back to the Mantis. You have a few hours left of your free time before the mission commences.
“We never asked how they got these things—the officer’s uniform at the very least,” you thought out loud.
“Do you really wanna know?”
You chuckled, your expression suddenly turned somber and Cal noticed it at the corner of his eye.
“Hey,” he placed his hand gingerly on your shoulder. “You okay?”
“I hope we could pull this off. I feel like… all of them are depending on us the most.”
Cal managed a smile, he inched closer to tenderly kiss your right temple, caressing your cheek at the same time.
“We’ll be okay,”
It was only an hour left before the mission could finally commence. The blaring alarm prompted you and Cal to get dressed into your disguises. Cal stepped out of the bathroom where he got changed. The uniform was eerily an accurate fit.
“Look at ya, all prim and proper!” Greez commented.
“Uh, thanks, I guess? Where’s [y/n]?”
You step out of the quarters, adjusting the neckline of your outfit and realigning the collar of the cowl that comes with it, your other hand was holding the mask. Cal examined you from head to toe: hair fixed into a neat ponytail, a black suit with red accents with its complementary cowl and mask.
Your eyes found Cal’s but you notice that his eyes were wandering.
“Cal, my eyes are up here,” you joked. “Well, how do I look?”
“Y-You definitely look the part,” he swallowed the lump in his throat.
You smile back, “So do you.”
You walk up to him and straighten the medal signifying the officer’s rank pinned over his left chest. Cal wasn’t sure if you noticed how he nervously shifted where he stood when you got close enough. Perhaps this new look of yours somehow excited him too much that it made him jumpy.
He watches you and your gloved hands straighten the rank pins on his left chest and flatten the crumples on his sleeves.
“There,” you smile and gently pat him on the chest. When you look up to his eyes, you notice his stare and smile. “What is it?”
He shakes his head, “Nothing. Thanks by the way,”
You reach for his cap on the table and wear it on his head. You straighten the brim so that it’s centered.
“Come on, the shuttle can’t wait for long.”
