based on this request: Okay! So after watching the run Sebastian organized at Imola, I has the idea of reader being someone that works for him (not sure what for though) maybe getting really sick for running in the rain that day, which ends up with Sebastian feeling guilty over it. It’s a silly idea, really, but I think it has a lot of potential to vibes similar to what Sebastian seems to have with the drivers, kind of playing dad to the grid 🥺.

The rain kept falling on the circuit, but that wasn't such an excuse for Sebastian and his team to cancel what they had been working on for months.

The run that the retired driver had decided to organize on Thursday not only with Formula 1 drivers, but also with those from Formula 2 and 3, and even other members of the sport, in honor of Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger, was more than perfect. It was an absolute success. And Sunday, when Vettel would drive the car that once belonged to the Brazilian pilot who died 30 years ago on that same circuit, hadn't even arrived yet.

You had been busy taking photos of everything, as you were Sebastian's official photographer. Now, you were gathering all the equipment you had used because the cold you were enduring was barely bearable. You had been out in the rain all day, following Seb wherever he went, which had made you feel increasingly worse. Now, your hands couldn't stop shaking, and you felt like you were about to faint at any moment.

"Y/N, are you okay?" one of the team members asked.

"Yes, of course," you replied with a weak smile. "I'm just a bit cold. I'll be back to be the same me as soon as we get back to the hotel."

The man nodded, not wanting to press you further despite not being very convinced by your words after seeing your completely pale face.

You decided to continue with your work, ignoring anyone who approached you to exchange even the slightest word. You tried to ignore the growing headache, the fatigue, and the tightness in your chest, which seemed to be worsening. Although the rain had stopped and you were in one of the garages, the sky remained dark.

You were surprised to see Sebastian, still wearing a short-sleeved shirt and shorts, just a few meters away from you. You shook your head, trying not to pay attention, and certainly not to worry. He was just your "boss," so to speak, and he was old enough to know what he needed to do to avoid getting sick. Well, he also had Britta, who was like a second mother to him.

A sharp pain pierced your temples. You staggered slightly, and if it hadn't been for your momentum making you lean your back against the wall behind you, you would have fallen to the ground.

"For God's sake, Y/N, you look terrible," he said as calmly as he could, though you could sense his nerves in his tone of voice. "You should go and have a rest. Like… now."

"Seb, we still have a lot to do. It's not just packing up the equipment, but also transferring the photos to the computer, editing them, then preparing the posts for you Instagram account..."

"Y/N, I love your work, but you've done more than enough for today," he interrupted, putting a hand on your shoulder, running his fingers carefully over it. "Now, I'll talk to Britta and we'll assign it to someone who knows what they're doing, okay?"

For a moment, you considered protesting, reproaching him that this was your job, and that's why he wanted you on his team since shortly before leaving Aston Martin, but the way he looked at you made you stop. He seemed worried, very worried. That's why you ended up not only reluctantly accepting but also letting him guide you to a nearby chair.

"Stay here. I'll bring you something warm."

As you watched Seb walk away, you sighed, managing to relax somehow. You saw him enter the Red Bull hospitality, and you assumed it was where he felt most comfortable. A few minutes later, you saw the blonde with two small steaming cardboard cups. As he reached your height, he offered you one of them.

"Thank you," you murmured, wrapping your hands around the cup and taking a sip. Chocolate, something you loved, and Seb knew it perfectly.

"Do you promise you'll go back to the hotel as soon as you finish your hot chocolate?"

"I promise," you assured him. "But I can't promise that..."

"Y/N, just no work for today," he cut in, seeing that you weren't going to fulfill what you had promised. "I want you to spend today and tomorrow resting. Sunday will be a tough day for us. You can do it, at least for me, or am I wrong?"

You nodded your head as if you were seven years old again. You knew you were going to rest as much as you could in your hotel room, but that didn't mean you weren't going to do anything. As you had already planned, you were obviously going to continue with your work. You couldn't disappoint Sebastian, not on such an important weekend like this.

Sebastian accompanied you to the door of your room, and despite having exchanged a couple of messages with you on Friday, having let you rest all afternoon and part of Saturday morning, and having agreed that you would come to a meeting room in the hotel at 12pm on Saturday to finalize the details of tomorrow's tribute, he didn't see you there.

"Have you seen Y/N?" he asked Britta directly, a little distressed. "She told me she would come with no doubt."

"And she did come," the ex-pilot's PR commented, "but I sent her back to her room as soon as I saw her shivering. Her forehead was burning, and she said she had a slight fever. It wasn’t just a slight fever, Seb," Britta assured him.

The man nodded but became even more worried. Quickly bidding farewell to Roeske, he headed towards your room. He saw the door slightly ajar, possibly your mistake. He knocked softly before entering, and the sight that greeted his eyes made him feel bad instantly.

You were curled up in bed, trembling uncontrollably. You had a small towel on your forehead with cold water to see if you could control your body temperature since you couldn't take your medicine again until the corresponding hours had passed, which was already the next day.

Your face was completely flushed, and your breathing was labored.

As soon as you realized Seb's presence, your eyes welled up with tears. You tried to force a smile, but all that came out were tears from how bad you felt not only for Seb to see you like this but also for ruining something so important.

"Seb... You didn't have to come," you stammered, your voice barely audible.

"Of course, I did! Don't be ridiculous!" he responded quickly, sitting beside you. He placed a hand on your forehead and realized Britta was right. "My God, Y/N, you're burning up. Why didn't you tell me you were feeling so bad?"

"I... didn't want to worry you," you admitted between tears of frustration and exhaustion. "Tomorrow is an important day. You need to be resting to give your best tomorrow. There are people who have come just for you, Seb, you can't let them down."

You noticed him tense a bit at the mention. His lips curved, and his jaw tightened. He took a deep breath and took your hand almost without thinking.

"This is my fault..." he whispered softly. He seemed overwhelmed with guilt, and much of it. You cursed yourself for making him think that when it was all really your fault. "Nothing is more important than your health, Y/N. I'm so sorry, really..."

"Seb, it's okay, really. These things happen; it's completely normal. There's probably someone else like me..."

His silence was the response you partly expected, but it didn't hurt until you saw him shake his head.

"I just wanted to give my best so that the photos would turn out perfect and you would have content worthy of all the work you've put into this..." was all you could say.

"You're already the best, Y/N," he said softly, tucking a strand of hair away from your face. "In fact, you're so perfect that you should stop being so perfect to start worrying more about yourself. And since you don't worry about yourself... let me do it for you, okay?"

Although you didn't agree with him and didn't believe you deserved his praise, you were too weak to argue.

Sebastian stayed with you all day, including the night. He made sure you were as comfortable as possible, brought you water, and soaked the cold cloth in water to lower your fever as soon as possible, miraculously something that worked. He didn't leave your side, not even when you had a coughing fit or sneezed without covering your mouth.

Your fever began to lower in the late hours of that day. Your breath calmed down, and the color seemed to return to your cheeks. Seb sighed with relief, quickly hugging you while continuously placing small kisses on your face and playing with your hair, making you laugh incessantly.

After ordering room service for dinner, since your appetite seemed to have returned, you fell asleep, at least apparently. To avoid disturbing you, Seb went from lying down next to you to reclining on a sofa next to the bed. His eyes were heavy with tiredness, but that didn't stop him from staying alert in case you needed his help.

"Rest, Y/N," he whispered, leaving a soft kiss on your forehead before caressing it. "I guess I'll have to take you out to dinner for the damages I caused."

You smiled at the last thing Seb had said, grateful that every time you got sick, you didn't fall into a deep sleep, and wishing that what Seb had said was true.

Happy Halloween weekend!! I personally LOVE Halloween and everything spooky. I was planning on writing other things for the holiday, but things don’t always go as planned so I’m doing blurbs instead!

‘’I’m a witch.’’ Robin gave you an uncertain smile, standing in her foyer dressed in a black dress and a pointy hat. ‘’I know what you’re going to say, but there weren't many costumes left at the Halloween store. It was a witch or a princess and that's really not my style.’’

Witches, along with vampires and ghosts were nothing groundbreaking on Halloween. There weren't any more boring costumes! As a kid, you would always roll your eyes whenever you'd crossed one of them in the street when trick-or-treating. 

At least she looked cute. You couldn't deny that.

You reached into your riding hood basket and pulled out a small Halloween baggie filled with candies. ‘’I stole some from my mom’s bag for the kids. I got one for all of us.’’ 

Robin took the bag of treats, eyeing it with heart eyes. ‘’I haven’t had one since my mom decided I couldn’t go collect candies at ten. Babe, you’re the best.’’ She opened the bag and pulled out a lollipop, tearing the wrapper and putting it in her mouth.

‘’I told Nance we’ll meet her at Steve’s house for the movie marathon. She had to drive Mike and the others to some special Hellfire meeting in the woods.’’

‘’In the woods?’’ You nodded. ‘’My parents are not home so let me grab my keys and broom and we can go-’’ Robin disappeared in her living room where she had left her broom and house keys, leaving you on the porch. ‘’Got them!’’ She returned to you, the full witch look suddenly turning you on. 

Or, perhaps it was the mention of Robin’s parents not being home.

You pushed her back inside the house. ‘’Forget the broom, ride me instead.’’

Robin’s cheeks turned bright red.

New Years Ask Game for fic writers

To close out 2023…

1) what fic did you have the most fun writing this year and why? Or, if you can’t decide, what was most fun about writing this year for you?

I think it’s a tie between All but the knot and Little Omega . Both are just that light hearted romp. Plus seeing my former barbarian as a toddler was just too fun.

2) what’s a scene/story that you finished and felt “wow, I really accomplished that, that actually went so well”?

The Legend of Mickey Milkovich :The Love Story of the Gallagher Husbands. It’s a very true and pure love story about loving yourself and loving your person in many stages of change. It’s a tribute to my husband. He does not read a lot of my stuff . This one was a lot for us. I wrote it while he was in surgery. It’s just a tribute to all the trans folks who live their truth.

3) What helped provide the most inspiration for stories, if anything? Was it poetry? A song on repeat? A gorgeous gifset? A walk outside? A book you read that made you want to change everything? Whatever it was! Tell all.

I see Mickey and Ian in a lot of poetry. I favor EECummings both in ‘I carry your heart with me’ and ‘spring omnipotent goddess’.

It’s deep and powerful love. It’s being devoured for love and beauty. They carry each other in different but consuming ways.

4) What is something you want to share about what you’ve written this year? A particular line, a comment that made you feel really good, a scene that was difficult to write — you get to choose! What do you wish someone would ask you about when it comes to what you’ve written?

I am writing “what keeps a man holding so long’ It’s a what if Ian waited, but what if they both got support for various issues. There is angst which is hard for me to write. The scenes of Ian setting boundaries made me cry as I wrote it. I want to go back and fix some grammar. I am proud for going outside my norm . I have them becoming dads in a very unexpected way.

What I wish people would ask? Hmm…I love feedback. All of you are helping me grow as a writer.Ask me anything. I would love to pair up for a story, I am a bit geeky and no nerve to ask.

And to start off 2024…

1) do you have any writing/creation goals for the year? What are they?

I want to continue the @galladrabbles. I checked out @callivich writing prompts and want to use at least 4 this year.

I was raised in a very weird homeschool thing as a kid. I get forensic chemistry but not commas. So I want to slow down and get better at grammar. Thank you @notherenewjersey ! They are a beta for me and I am learning so much. I appreciate the time given to my SBB . My goal is to replicate that care in new works.

Oh and commission more art !

2) is there a fic or idea that you’re really excited to be able to continue to work on in the new year (shout out to my fellow fic writing folks who take forever to finish wips, sometimes it’s nice to be able to continue working on something even if you wish you’d gotten it done! Now you get even MORE time with it!)

I am excited to get to finish ‘ what keeps a man holding so long’ and ‘all but the knot, part two’. I also decided to take two tropes I love and mix them. Irish mobster meets geek Mickey.

3) What’s something new in your writing you want to try/are going to try? A different writing style? Different fandom? Darker works? Fluffier? Longer or shorter?

I am very wordy …see for reference the large series ‘bringing home barbarian’ . I am working on shorts and cannon compliant stories.

4) what’s something you love about your own writing that you will continue to appreciate in the new year?

I love writing and I want to continue making people happy.

summary: the one where ej and andy realise that there may be some romantic feelings between them that hadn't been there before, or had they? the new year test this revelation

Nini had decided to stay in Salt Lake, and now, the whole drama department but Carlos were standing in Sebs barn.

"Why do I hear sheep but not see sheep?" Ashlyn asked in a panic and a sheep started bleating.

EJ jumped back with a girly scream and Andy laughed, like full belly laugh, "You sounded like a girl!" She said between laughs.

"Okay, okay, its not that funny, " EJ said, wrapping an arm around her shoulders as he pulled her back up, trying to stop her laughing.

"I'm sure Seb and Gina have a good reason for bringing us to his barn so late on a school night," Ricky stated.

"We gathered you guys here because I've had an idea," Gina explained, "And because we only have 48 hours,"

They all listened as they explained that they wanted to throw Carlos a quinceñearo. Andy thought it was a great idea and so did everyone else.

"For Carlos!" Ricky yelled out, placing his hand in the middle as everyone else put their hands on top, cheering.

Two days later and EJ and Andy turned up at the party in Sebs barn, helping to set everything up.

"Have I mentioned that you look good," EJ whispered in her ear as they walked up to help.

He was wearing a crimson coloured suit and she accidentally matched, wearing a dark red dress.

"Yeah, when I left my house and in the car ride over here," she replied as she helped set up his camera.

EJ just blushed, "Uh...Well, you do, uh," he stumbled over his words and she just laughed.

"Its fine, you look good as well," she said, winking at him before bending over to grab some boxes.

He watched her in awe for a second, his cheeks flushed red at her winking at him.

She finished unpacking the boxes and came back to where he was setting up the camera for the video that they were making for Carlos.

Andy was standing with EJ because they were both in the AV club, rolling the tape on Mr Mazzara when Miss Jenn ran over announcing Carlos will be here soon.

"Look at this fancy interview set up, don't forget to get my good side later," She said jokingly.

"Which side is that?" Mr Mazzara asked as she walked away.

EJ and Andy looked at each other, laughing slightly, "Smooth," EJ said.

"Cut, that is not going on the birthday tribute. And don't get me started on your flirting techniques Mr Caswell," Mazzara said.

EJs face went bright red at the insinuation and luckily Andy didn't understand because he knew that would just ruin their friendships.

They all got in their places and the doors opened, everyone yelling happy birthday to Carlos as him and Seb walkes in.

Nini and Ricky got on stage, calling Gina up as they walked off to allow her her mo.ent in the spotlight.

"When I saw the dance you posted, it reminded me of myself and how dance was such an escape, so I'm recreating it for you today," Gina explained with a smile.

She performed the exact dance that he had choreographed when he was in seventh grade.

That just made him smile, tearing up slightly as he watched it. Andy and EJ filmed the whole thing, cheering her on.

Gina called Carlos up on stage as she crowned him, everyone cheering as the dance ended.

They filmed some other videos before Seb got on stage, sitting at the piano.

He sighed, "Carlos, I think you know there is nothing greater than the love we share for power ballads originally song by iconic women," he said with a laugh.

Carlos chuckled, nodding his head. Andy looked over from where she was sitting and smiled at him.

"And you're my boyfriend but your also sort of my hero," Seb said before explaining that he was always a fan after watching the video when he was younger.

He performed 'The Climb' Carlos tearing up as he watched the performance with a smile on his face.

When he was finished, everyone applauded him, watching as the couple shared that moment.

Carlos jumped up, walking over to Deb and pulling him into a hug, "Where did you come from and why am I so lucky," he said before they kissed.

Everyone called for a speach, Seb grabbing Carlos a microphone.

"I'm not sure how I can thank you all for this, I've never been speechless," he said and everyone chuckled.

"I've done a little research, and you should be choosing your madrina," Seb explained, passing the mic back.

He chose his madrina to be the one person who always understood him completely, Miss Jenn.

Afterwards, EJ was filming her, watching as she sobbed with mascara running down her cheeks.

She ran off, Mazzara cornering EJ, "You have done well tonight," he said with a smile.

"If felt good to do this," EJ explained before looking over at Andy, his gaze landing on her.

She was standing with Ricky and Big Red, her head thrown back laughing at some joke Big Red had made.

"So, who was the most interesting interview?" Mazzara asked.

"Sorry, what," EJ asked, having heard none of what he was saying as he took his gaze off of Andy.

But Mazzara saw him gazing over at Andy and he smiled, "Nothing," he said before walking off.

Later that night, EJ and Andy were dancing in the crowd when he realised he had to tell her.

He could feel his heart pounding in his chest and he wondered if it was the right time.

As he looked at her, so peaceful and at ease in his arms, he knew he couldn't wait any longer in telling her the way that he felt aboit her.

"I like you," he blurted out and she faltered, hands tensing on his shoulders.

"What?" She questioned, suddenly hyper aware if the fact that his hands were on her hips.

She froze. Her mind went completely blank as she questioned whether he had really said what she thought he'd said.

"I really like you, like, I think about you all the time like you, that I want you to be my girlfriend like you," EJ explained, his face red as he finally admitted it.

He started to feel self conscious. Every bone in his body was telling him that he had done the wrong thing and had just ruined his friendship with her.

"I-" she paused, pulling away from him. He was scared she was going to reject him but instead she grabbed his hand, "Come here,"

She pulled him outside, the two looking around before they stood in the middle of the field in the back of Sebs House.

EJ could feel his stomach doing flips. This was where she was going to beat him up for saying that and leave him to die.

He had this sickening feeling that he had just lost the best, best friend that he had ever had or ever would have.

"I like you too," Andy admitted and he smiled, placing both his hands on either of his face.

He let out a sigh of relief and she smiled as all the tension and fear left his body, his shoulders slumping down.

He smiled at her, unable to take his eyes off of her. All he could think about was how this beautiful woman had feelings for him.

"Can I-" he paused to smile at her, "-Can I kiss you?" He asked.

"Yes," she whispered, the two leaning in and kissing.

It was perfect and she never wanted to let go of him ever again. But as they pulled away, they rested their foreheads against each other with a giddy smile.

Well, that was until they leaned back in for a kiss, his hand resting on her waist as he pulled her back in closer.

He held her flush against him, one hand on her waist and the other on the back of her neck as he kissed her softly, reveling in the moment.

"Well, wasn't expecting this," Mazzara said as he saw the two kissing against the barn.

They both jumped back to see their teacher standing there, arms folded across his chest, a smug look on his face.

"Don't tell anyone," EJ blurted our before looking at Andy, "I want to wait before we tell people,"

"Of course, my lips are sealed," Mazzara said, winking at them before walking back out.

Their cheeks were both burning red from their teacher having caught them kissing.

But then they broke out into a fit of laughter, her hand falling into his. It was the most surreal moment and they were both happier than ever.

"Does that mean, I'm your girlfriend now?" Andy asked, looking up at EJ after Mazzara walked out.

"If you want to be my girlfriend," he said, a blush spreading over his cheeks. He had never felt that way about anyone before, the fluttery feeling in his stomach as he looked at her.

"Course I do," she whispered, pulling him in for another kiss.

fernando is pissed as balls that his engine broke down in abu dhabi. He can’t even have a leaving-team race in peace, and worst of all, no donuts. he can’t send seb off like he wanted. everything was going to plan even. alas renault’s high quality engine™ decided it had enough of the year and wrecked itself in the middle of the race. 

karma in a way after ocon’s car also went spectacularly, it seems

so there he is dragging his items and the whole nine yards to the aston martin motorhome with his friend and basically minder because he’s also had enough with alpine management screwing him over. aston was nice enough to have a few spare rooms so he dumps everything in there and just. sits on a chair. he’s properly rinsed anyway and tired and also sad that now he has one less super experienced driver to go toe to toe with and really get him going

Internally he’s wishing really really hard. i wish with whatever is left of my heart that i get a really fun season next year with not a lot of crashes and good good racing please i'll politick a little less even.

something in his mind makes a faint click sound, but he's gone and napped too far to care about it.

Anyway his friend just lets him ko on the floor because it’s fernando, he knows what he's doing 95% of the time so its alright.

might as well acclimatise to the aston place that feels immediately extra homey and already accepted him as compared to alpine. Its gonna be his team for a while after all. uncharacteristically he just straight up KOs on the floor and no one had the mind to actually wake him up because that’s a dirty floor sir. but it's a comfy dirty floor for starters.

Anyway it gets real funky when he gets up and is in a hotel, but he felt like the entire weight of last season was completely gone. Its an athlete thing to always be at the top of your game, but right now he feels the same as if it was 2012 all over again and superduper motivated. That’s absolutely not right.

It’s dawn and really cool out and his stuff is still there except none of them are alpine related. It’s practically his black sponsorless suit and normal kimoa stuff. His helmet is…not bwt? It’s his standard asturias flag, not the horrible and pink but also seemingly missing the tribute flag lines he did for seb’s last race.

wait a minute, the season just ended.

he finds out he's near silverstone and his friend’s basically at the door telling him he needs to get ready to go to aston’s hq, meet the team etc etc. well ok sure no problem, except he swore it was not that fast dude. sadly the calendar on his phone says 1 JANUARY 2023 ..

This makes nando the most confused he has been in years and to make sure he proper isn't on some funny drug, he asks seb if he did post season testing

Gregory Finsley keeps Freddie Mercury’s spirit alive and well with Queen for a Day.

But the phenomenal Dallas tribute band is calling it quits

Dallas is losing a remarkable cultural asset, since Saturday marks Queen for a Day’s last performance.

And apparently, our gay community missed out.

A lack of quality-paying gigs, differences about the group’s direction and other career commitments has led singer Gregory Finsley to call it quits.

It was a bitter decision.

“We could have done much more damage, made a lot more money and played a lot of other places. Unfortunately, because everyone else is so tied down with families and other career commitments, there’s no way we could have done it. It really pisses me off,” Finsley says.

When it comes to the tribute band genre, Queen for a Day is arguably one of the best.

There was no room for mediocrity in Freddie Mercury’s supergroup.

And to emulate the band’s magic is no easy task.

Queen was pompous.

Cheesily overdriven.

Faux-operatic.

Full of hot air.

And that’s why they were so magnificent.

Finsley’s lifelong dream was to be just like Freddie Mercury.

At 12, he attended Queen’s “News of the World” tour on Dec. 10, 1977, at the Tarrant County Convention Center.

His world took shape as he watched Mercury from the lower balcony off stage-left.

“It blew my mind — my first concert ever. I had already been playing drums. I looked at Freddie and Roger [Taylor, drummer] and decided that’s exactly what I want to do,” Finsley remembers.

Through high school, Finsley stuck with drums.

He even dabbled in bisexuality.

But he was a full-on Queen addict and constantly sang his heart out to Mercury’s compositions.

The flamboyant rock god had a profound influence.

“I think Freddie caused me to be a little braver, livelier, more daring. Eventually people would say, ‘You sound just like that dude from Queen,”’ he explains.

“By listening to all the songs over and over, it was like brainwashing. I emulated all those inflections that Freddie gave off.”

Finsley learned piano and became an accomplished signer, performer and drum teacher.

He formed with various groups, but didn’t delve into the Queen catalog until fairly recently.

A few years ago — while living in New Orleans and playing with a band on Bourbon Street — Finsley rocked the house with a cover version of “Tie Your Mother Down.”

A spot-on crowd pleaser.

In December 2001, he returned to Dallas and was working as a salesman at Brook Mays Music Co.

Co-worker Brian Harris overheard Finsley at the piano performing a rendition of “Somebody to Love.”

A light bulb went off.

Queen for a Day was born.

It takes a lot of work to nail Queen's over- reaching pastiche rock.

Finsley and Harris (a supreme guitarist) rounded up a tight rhythm section — drummer Alan Mouradian and bassist Jimmy Cleaver.

This talented foursome could handle the complex arrangements and intricate hooks.

You can’t have Queen without the charisma of Freddie Mercury.

And you can’t be Freddie “the entertainer” (who had an easily forgettable career as a solo artist) without the balls-to-the-wall musicianship of Queen.

Seb Hunter, author of “Hell Bent for Leather: Confessions of a Heavy Metal Addict’ (Harper Collins, 2004), brilliantly summed up Queen’s essence in a recent e-mail.

“The usual rock star ‘credibility trappings’ didn’t apply. Freddie didn’t care what people thought of him. So he was free to take his vaudeville vision as far as he could — which ended up being rather a long way! He was also lucky in that the rest of the band were able to act as his ‘foil.’ They supplied the traditional meat-and-potatoes while Freddie whirled and danced over the top of it. The po-faced seriousness of the rest of the band served as both a counterweight to Freddie’s outrageousness as well as a solid musical platform. Their ‘straightness’ was also handy in that it deflected a significant amount of Freddie’s natural ‘gayness,’ making it acceptable for your average homophobic rock fan to like the band.”

Like contact sports, rock music is astoundingly conservative.

In their day, Queen earned its stripes as a respected rock group.

And anti-gay fans simply overlooked Mercury’s macho flamboyance.

Finsley confirms that only Freddie Mercury can get away with his brand of absurd, high camp in the face of serious rock.

When Queen for a Day started to take shape, “I got ecstatic. Ideas started flowing about songs we could play. But a lot of those got turned down by Brian [Harris] because he thought they were ‘too gay,”’ Finsley explains. “And of course that was head-butt city right there.”

Harris’ vision was to only cull songs from a portion of group’s catalog: 1973-1981.

“But Queen is not just one period. There’s 25 years of material,” Finsley says.

So a dream come true is coming to an end.

Finsley is moving back to New Orleans in less than two weeks.

Queen for a Day’s rare performances are usually packed with area musicians who have memorized every hardcore note in the Queen catalog.

Finsley says the gay community never embraced Queen for a Day.

Saturday will probably be the last time to do so.

MY TOP 10 F1 HELMETS OF 2020 (AS A GRAPHIC DESIGNER)

With finally that dumb rule about amount of helmet changes out of our system, I’ve been enjoying seeing all these different helmets this season. There have been beauties, some that I’m still thinking about till this day and there have been some uglies.. some also which I’ve been thinking about till this day and literally thinking: WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!?!? to the drivers that wore them. 

As I’m getting my official graphic design ‘papers’ I wanted to give my opinion about my top 10 helmets of this year: 

10: Daniil Kvyat Abu Dhabi helmet

This is his last helmet and honestly I’m a fan of this one. It’s a pretty simple design and usually I’m not a big fan of the colour red being used in a helmet. Mostly because I find that colour a bit overdone in helmets. But it being sparkly makes it extremely beautiful and it’s the first Alpha Tauri helmet that I’ve seen that match fully with that big ass logo on there. With most of the Alpha Tauri helmets I feel like the helmets designs have two parts to it, the design and the big ass logo. But with this one I find it matching extremly well. Good job on that, love it.

9: Pierre AustrianGP helmet (fan made)

Oof, the front and the upper part of this helmet is just so fun. I’m a big fan of using a dark background with a very bright color scheme combined and I love the fact that this was a competition where fans could design Pierre’s helmet and that a beautiful design was chosen. I would have loved it even more if the alpha tauri logo wasn’t there. Especially that big. It would have looked so cool and given me an 80′s disco vibe if the whole colourful design was fully around the helmet, without the logo. But I guess with this one I just pretend the logo isn’t there. It's still so good though.

8: Sebastian Vettel Abu Dhabi (ferrari tribute) helmet.

Now I wasn’t sure which helmet of Seb I liked more, this helmet or the Styrian helmet. I decided on this helmet, because it’s such a Seb helmet and reminded me of one of his Red Bull helmet (which is prettier than this one tbh). But also because I think there’s a special concept to this helmet. This obviously could be wrong but to me this helmet is a bit of ‘self reflect’ for Seb. You obviously have the achievements with Ferrari on there and his famous quote ‘grazie ragazzi and the helmet has a bit of a mirror effect. but the colours to me that especially are being used in the number 5 tells me his F1 adventure (past and future). The colours start (in the number 5) with the Redbull colours, than goes into the red(Ferrari) which blends in with a little pink and goes straight to the green(AM). So I really like this little detail even if it wasn’t on purpose, which sorry but I am convinced it is. 

7: The pink Hulkenberg helmet

I’m not gonna lie, I kind of had forgotten about this helmet, but as I’ve been looking back at these helmets this one has been really catching my eyes and is so well done. I find Pink a very hard colour to work with anyway, definitley the bright pink that just screams at you. And the fact that the bright pink isn’t overpowering with the pastel pink and white makes this helmet just nice to look at. The things that needs to grab your attention, grabs your attention and the fact that it has stripes going vertically over the helmet is one of my favourite design choices you can do with helmets so I absolutely love that. If a driver is doing a pink helmet, then this is what I love to see. Very beautiful. 

6: Jack Aitken Abu Dhabi helmet

Now this one I was pleasent surprised by. Lets just put it this way: It’s a busy helmet well done. This is also a helmet that is just nice to look at it. Using these kinds of shapes that go from small once to big once is not easy to make it not look messy and the way they've done the white spaces inbetween the shapes is really well done. It looks like a puzzle that fits well and I have nothing bad to say about this. The color scheme with this one is just amazing. Really really love this one.

5: Lewis Hamilton purple helmet (bahrain)

I haven’t been a fan of Lewis’s helmets before BUT LET ME TELL YOU, this season he has really been bringing it. I am in love with the use of purple. Such an underrated color in this sport. And why? I have no clue. Purple is creative, magic, rich colour. How has it not been used more? It looks so good on this helmet, especially the Bahrein one with the glitter. Very pretty, good job Lewis. Finally! I have nothing bad to say about this helmet. The stars for his champions, the blm message on it. A good helmet right here. 

4: George’s Abu Dhabi GP helmet

I guess a lot of drivers saved their best helmet for last... When I saw this helmet for the first time I was legit in love with it. I love that this helmet is for Frank and Claire and showing the success of Williams which haven’t been showed the last couple of years. But the use of the two dark blue shades with the white lines is complimenting all three colours so beautifully. I really hope George keeps those three colours and make a different kind of design as his main helmet because this looks beautiful to me. I wouldn’t even know anything bad to say about this helmet. Love it.

3: Alex’s Abu Dhabi GP Helmet

Now this one might come as a surprise and I don’t think anyone would’ve picked this one out as a number three BUT HEAR ME OUT. I’m absolutely OBSESSED with the cartoonish design that’s going on with this and it stands out a lot more compared to all the other Red Bull helmets that have been designed since 2015. To me they’ve been all looking kind of the same but this one to me is just so unique while still being a very RedBull helmet. The black outlining makes all of the colours pop out so much more and just the whole cartoon vibe is just right up my alley. If I were to design helmets, the whole cartoon vibe would be what I do and I think that’s one of the main reasons why this helmets speaks to me so much. Like I absolutely love it.

2: Seb’s Tuscan GP helmet

This was the hardest decision, because to me this is a clear number one. I have something with old designs coming back. And I LOVED Seb’s 2019 Monza helmet which was a love letter to the old helmets and I LOVE this helmet for the same reason, but even more so of how creative this is. Obviously it was the 1000GP for Ferrari so there was the inspiration. But I’m just obsessed with the way the old side looks. How they used an old drawing of the old racing car and made it really work. Like it almost looks like an old world map but to a racing driver. I’m obsessed with this side. But also I’m obsessed with the way it goes from the old side to the new with the old looking colours to the vibrant almost neon ‘now’ colours... is just amazing. I probably would’ve loved it even more (if that was possible lmao) if the old side was all around the helmet, but you just have to love this concept. For a 1000gp celebration it’s so good and well thought while still keeping your main design helmet in there. I would love to have this helmet. So cool.

1: Sebastian Vettel diversity helmet

Is it really a surprise that this one is on number one though? Now I’m gonna be honest with you, even though I absolutely love this design, it’s the combination of the design and the extremly strong message this helmet brings to the table that makes this helmet a number one of the season. This helmet is so special I will be thinking about this helmet in probably 10 years still. Now let me talk about the design. The stripes of rainbow where usually the German flag is (which I said before) something I’m obsessed with. I really love a helmet that has stripes going vertically over the helmet. I don’t think a lot of drivers use that and obviously Seb’s Ferrari helmet is known for that design and is so iconic. Your eyes will go straight to the vertically stripes, which in this case are the rainbow colours. But that’s not all. On the side you have all these unique illustrated people. Every character on there is differently that you almost could say you could ‘find yourself’ in there. It really shows the message of this helmet. What I also love and probably is a detail that is a forgotten detail, is how the number five slowly fades with the background. I’m very curious if that’s just a design choice, but I almost would think there’s a concept in that alone. Overall this is just a mind blowing helmet. I have nothing bad to say about it. It’s a beautiful design with an amazing message that should be talked more about in this sport.

Singapore GP 2019: This was a controversial moment, because Charles was really mad about the fact that the team allowed Seb’s undercut. At first he was angry in the podium, but soon after he tried to celebrate their only 1-2 for Ferrari in that season

Italian GP 2020: ah, the iconic cardbord cut-outs. Because it was Ferrari’s home race, and they couldn’t take public, Seb decided to take photos of the mechanics and people who worked for Ferrari, and they put Charles and Sebs cut-outs right next to eachother

Read your post about Seb&Charles and rationally it seems on point and valid but idk, I feel like Seb is keeping him at an arms length mostly from what I’ve seen especially after Monza quali mess. After that grand helmet gesture only thing Seb said was something like “yeah I thought it looked like my helmet”. I was like “but aren’t you gonna say it’s so sweet and thoughtful or sth?” Idk I might be wrong since I don’t specificly focus on them. Respect is clear but not sure he really likes Charles.

Yeah, fair enough. Look, I’m not saying everyone has to like or enjoy their dynamic. There’s a lot of things going on behind the scenes that we’re just not privy to, so it’s impossible to fully gauge just how close they are behind close doors or the full extent of what their relationship looks like. Only they know what they are to each other. 

Undoubtedly Seb was angry after the Monza qualy mess. They got into it with each other quite a bit during the second half of 2019, yeah. But I have to say I think most of Seb’s frustrations in 2020 stemmed from the poor car performance and being at odds with team management; knowing they’ve decided to let him go so unceremoniously and the rift can’t be healed. Being hounded by the media to answer the same questions over and over again - “Why is the car handling so poorly? When will you improve? Are you going to retire if you don’t find a seat?” must’ve been exhausting and degrading. Did Charles annoy him at times? I’m sure he did. But they also shared some really nice moments where he seemed to enjoy ribbing Charles and just having a bit of fun with him in what was otherwise a miserable season. After Turkey he said he plans to go talk to Charles and console him. He called the “new start” with Charles joining the team one of the best moments during his time with Ferrari. He’s given Charles Christmas gifts/cards. He might’ve seemed colder or more reserved, especially last year, because again, I think he was mostly just tired and incredibly jaded, but Imo that had less to do with Charles himself and more to do with the issues he had with the higher-ups and obviously the horrific car performance.  

As for the helmet tribute...Yes it’s hard to tell how he reacted because all we have is text and no visual, but I did find this quote: “Charles showed it to me before free practice,” he [Seb] commented. “And I said [hey, that looks like my helmet] and he said it that it was a homage to my design. It’s beautiful and a nice gesture from him!” He’s smiling and seems genuinely happy in one of the photos from the helmet swap where they’re both looking at the tribute helmet in Charles’s hands and seem to be talking about some part of the collage, presumably. 

Do I think they’re best friends who go on holidays together and invite each other over for tea and gossip? No. But I do think they like each other.

Sebastian Vettel: Lewis Hamilton & Fernando Alonso say retiring champion is a 'legend' of F1

The Hungarian Grand Prix is live on 5 Live and BBC Sport website Fellow multiple world champions Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso have paid tribute to Sebastian Vettel after he announced his retirement. The four-time champion said on Thursday that he would step away from F1 at the end of this season. Hamilton and Alonso, whose careers have paralleled Vettel's, both described him as "a legend of our sport". And Hamilton praised Vettel's move towards activism, especially on the climate crisis, in recent years. Hamilton said: "I am sad to hear he's leaving. I think he is one of the most impactful F1 drivers who has ever lived and I feel very proud to have been here in the time he was. "He is the most conscious - I like to think I am up there with him, in terms of conscious of the impact we're having and what we can do with our platform. "He has been such a great voice and I am really proud of him for that." The seven-time champion also posted a personal message to Vettel on Twitter, saying: "Seb, it's been an honour to call you a competitor and an ever greater honour to call you my friend. "Leaving this sport better than you found it is always the goal. I have no doubt that whatever comes next for you will be exciting, meaningful, and rewarding. Love you, man." Alonso, who famously lost out in two close title battles with Vettel in 2010 and 2012 when the Spaniard was at Ferrari and the German at Red Bull, said: "Four titles and not only [a legend] as a driver, as a human being. "He has very strong values and a very correct way of thinking. We will miss him. I will miss the battles on track. "Our careers were very close together always, together with Lewis. We miss one of the three. But family and other things are probably in this decision so I wish him the best and a lot of happiness." Vettel said he had not decided what to do next, but made it clear that spending time with his family, and his concern for the environment were at the centre of his move. "Unfortunately, I wish it wasn't like that, but the climate crisis is part of all our futures," Vettel said. "Nobody is able to run away from it. We all have to face it and it will face us all. It's also one of the bigger aspects that have led to the decision, the changing world and there are aspects of the job today, flying around the world, burning fuel that don't feel right. TDB Rewatch: Michael

The middle of season three continues to be not that bad - if I focus on just being mindlessly entertained for forty minutes and don’t think about it that hard.  Like Rachel - I don’t really get the whole Michael Jackson thing, but that’s okay! For a tribute episode, this does very well, though it keeps the time honored tradition of having too much music and too little plot.  The music is nice, the covers are fine, and I don’t find myself egregiously irritated with the episode - even if the couple of things I do think are really wrong with it have to do with Kurt. 

Thoughts: 

You know what this episode had going for it? Barely any Will and no Sue.  

There really isn’t any big overall story - beside the whole ND v Warblers thing.  It’s just a lot of tiny plot threads that they pull on to fit with the music.  Which is fine.  It works, for the most part.  This episode is still mostly music. 

So, I suppose - let’s do this by song... 

Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’ - Ah, Blaine this overjoyed ball of sunshine.  I think the Mercedes and Santana upset that they didn’t do MJ and ND v Warblers both wanting to do MJ for Regionals is a weak tie in for doing MJ, but eh, it’s fine.  I mean - all these songs relate to different plots, so I can understand the general theme.  

There’s a lot of underlying Blaine backstory and development that could have been explored in this episode - his issues with the Warblers, why he’s hanging around Sebastian and telling him things, how he feels about having a slushie to his face, how he doesn’t feel like he fits in at McKinley still, stuff with Kurt -- but, you know, Darren had to be on Broadway and Finchel needed more screen time so.... 

Bad - I like this song in concept, and Santana and Blaine teaming up is actually pretty cool.  But this performance is dark, literally, as in I can’t see most of what’s going on.  It isn’t the best shot one.  

I genuinely like Santana in this episode - from her attitude being used at someone not in ND, her conversation with Kurt, and taping something to her underboob, I feel like /this/ is how they should have been using Santana more often. 

Scream - So, um, anyone wanna talk about Artie’s anger issues.  His little speech is 4th-wall breaking relevant, but in character it seems a little off.  But it doesn’t get picked up on so....  let’s chalk it up to the fact that it’s meant for this song.  Kevin McHale and Harry Shum Jr knock this song out of the park.  I really do not like listening to it, but -- it’s visually stunning, and a fantastic cover. 

Never Can Say Goodbye - Quinn’s voice is a bit weak on this one, but I do like this song for her.  And I like that they got her into Yale.  Congrats, no more irritating Quinn story lines!! (Mostly) 

While I’m rolling my eyes at more obligatory Faberry - I kind of question Rachel’s logic and reasoning here.  I’m going to go ask my bf’s ex if it’s okay if we get married.  I mean really??  I do agree with what Quinn has to say, though.  Both Finn and Rachel want to get married for /bad/ reasons.  And while Quinn is going the opposite way with it - mostly cause she’s realizing that she doesn’t have to have her whole life planned out, she is correct in that - they’re kids, and you don’t know what you want at 16.  

Human Nature - another song I’m not really that into - but Mercedes and Sam are lovely together.  And giving Mercedes a story line that’s not about competing with Rachel is always a plus.  She has a genuine conflict here.  

Ben - hey, it’s that one time they decided to sing about a rat to the gay pirate.  If you listen to the lyrics, the song does make sense, and they do sound nice on it.  Still -- why does Finchel need to be involved in this scene at all? Oh because Kurt needs to feel bad for getting a finalist letter because Rachel did not.  Oh god...  

Before I get into that, though.  Taking a step back from the Klaine issues - they don’t bother me too much.  I mean, Blaine does take that slushie for Kurt, and they are holding hands with each other.  But, yeah, when you examine it further, it is frustrating that they remain three feet apart while Finchel gets to make out in every scene they’re in.  Letting the gay couple be physical shouldn’t be an issue -- but alas, it was 2012, and it still was on prime time tv. 

Meanwhile - let’s talk about Kurt and his NYADA finalist -- which is a nice little scene with his dad, albeit slightly overwrought - but you know, this is soured by a) him having to emotionally prop up Rachel and b) the fact that he ultimately doesn’t get in.   Doing meta and the podcast has given me distance to not be as irritated, but I’m still epicly rolling my eyes. 

Smooth Criminal - Santana v Sebastian is brilliant, and this number is the best one in the show.  It’s actually rather dark and tense, tbh.  Also - 2Cellos - you go dudes. 

I Just Can’t Stop Loving You - Did this episode really need a Finchel duet? Really??  Long gone is the cutesy couple from season 1 - and now they’re talking about marriage proposals and both wanting to get married for very, very wrong reasons, and it’s just painful.  I say - make it stop, but we have 11 more episodes of this.  

Black or White - This is the song I listen to the most! I like it.  Also my massive love to Trent Warbler. 

However, I will never understand why they made Kurt give back the tape - other than the want Seb around ep 14.  But seriously, I side-eye the whole Kurt taking the higher road cause they need someone telling the morale of the story.  While I’m softer about season 3 on some levels - what they do with Kurt during this season, I am not. 

You’re a vegetable, I eat off you.

The daughter of a cabbie who died of Covid-19 believes he caught the killer disease off cash from one of his fares.

Tonight, relatives of Spencer Kurash join families across the UK to speak of their horror as our death toll passed 1,000.

Black cab driver Spencer, 56, died after bravely deciding to carry on ferrying people around London.

His student daughter Natasha, 18, told us: “It could have been an infected passenger who handed over money. It’s just devastating.”

Spencer, a cabbie for 22 years and a Spurs season ticket holder, self-isolated when his symptoms developed after his last shift on March 18.

His wife of 19 years, Esther, tried in vain to resuscitate him when his symptoms worsened at home in Chigwell, north east London, on Wednesday and the family dialled 999.

Paramedics worked on Spencer for an hour but could not save him. Tests will be carried out to confirm the virus.

Today we bring you more victims on Britain’s terrible list of tragedies and the thoughts of their loved ones.

Chloe Middleton, 21, Buckinghamshire

The family of tragic Chloe, who had no pre-existing medical conditions, believe she died after contracting Covid-19.

But Chloe, from High Wycombe, who had a heart attack on Thursday, was not included in the official death toll as medics at Slough’s Wexham Park Hospital did not record her death as coronavirus-related.

Her aunt Emily Mistry said she was “beautiful and kindhearted”.

Thomas Davies, 27. Gwynedd

Healthy Thomas had become a dad for the second time 10 days before he died on Thursday, after showing symptoms.

The pub worker, of Penygroes, who also had a four-year-old son, was found dead by partner Rhiannon Elias, 27.

His mum Mandy said: “She is in a million pieces. Her heart has come apart. You could not ask for a more loving dad.”

Adam Harkins Sullivan, 28. London

Painter and decorator Adam had Covid-19 and died this week after contracting pneumonia.

Mum Jackki described the Camden dad-of-one as a “spe-cial character” with “hundreds of mates”.

Danny Sharma, 31. Middlesex

Friends of DJ Danny said he had a “heart of gold” after he died on March 26.

Danny, of Uxbridge, also secretary of the Middlesex County Football League, was battling diabetes.

Pooja Sharma, 33, East Sussex, and Sudhir Sharma, 62 London

Pharmacist Pooja died this week just 24 hours after her father Sudhir also succumbed to the virus.

It is not known whether Pooja, who worked at Eastbourne District General Hospital, in East Sussex, had been in close contact with her dad recently.

Steven Dick, 37. Scotland

British diplomat in Hungary Steven was doing his dream job before he died on Tuesday.

Parents Steven and Carol said: “It was always his dream to work for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and he was very happy representing our country overseas.”

Seb Lewis, 38. London

Sad Charlton Athletic FC confirmed that one of their superfans Seb had died from coronavirus on Wednesday.

Craig Ruston, 45. Northants

Footwear designer and “wonderfully kind” father Craig died on March 16 after falling ill with Covid-19.

Craig, of Kettering, had also been battling motor neurone disease and “was not ready to go,” according to devastated wife Sally. Writing for her family online, she added: “We are truly heartbroken.”

Tim Galley, 47. North Wales

Selfless banker Tim thought of other sufferers of Covid-19 and refused to call 999 when his symptoms became worse last Sunday.

But just two days later he was found dead at home in Wrexham. His grief-stricken partner Donna Cuthbert said: “I asked him to phone for an ambulance but he kept on saying to me that he was fine, that he had no underlying health conditions and that they would be too busy dealing with other people.”

Kimberley Finlayson, 52. Hertfordshire

Mum-of-four Kimberley, who suffered from other underlying health conditions, was the first Brit to die after testing positive for Covid-19 in Bali.

The brave businesswoman had two emergency operations in an Indonesian hospital before passing away there on March 11.

Husband Ken said his wife, who ran a dental comms firm, was “so powerful, courageous, supportive of all of us”.

John Barry, 56. Ayrshire

Popular plumber John died of suspected coronavirus on Wednesday.

The beloved dad-of-two, of Irvine, had battled underlying health issues His sister Louise Storrie said he will be missed by many.

She said: “He was one of those guys who would go into the pub and not know a soul and come out with a hundred pals.”

Nick Matthews, 59. Somerset

Retired policeman Nick passed away after contracting the virus on March 14, after being hospitalised at the Bristol Royal Infirmary just two days earlier.

The father-of-two, from Nailsea, had only just returned from holiday in Fuerte-ventura in the Canary Islands. He was remembered by his grieving wife Mary as “my life partner and soulmate, but, most of all, my best friend.”

Wendy Jacobs, 59. Cumbria

Headteacher Wendy, of Barrow In Furness, died on Mother’s Day from pneumonia complicated by Covid-19.

Her passing was described as “devastating” by her school – Roose Community Primary School in Barrow, Lancs – where her colleagues and pupils were said to be “in shock”. In their tribute, Wendy’s grief-stricken family described her as an “incredible woman”.

Sobbing son Stuart Hamlin touched hearts everywhere when he told of the “gut-wrenching pain” of losing his mum Tracy to the virus on Thursday.

Tracy, a former caretaker at Crayford Manor House school, in Bexleyheath, south east London, died four days after being admitted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich with symptoms of Covid-19. In a clip uploaded to Facebook, watched four million times, Stuart wept: “I beg you. Stay indoors.”

Paul Karslake, 61. Essex

Artist Paul was the brother of Jo Wood – former wife of Rolling Stone Ronnie.

Paul, of Basildon, died from suspected coronavirus on March 23 and left his big sister shattered. Jo, 63, described him as a “funny, talented, wonderful father, husband and brother”. She added: “I’ll miss him so much.”
