just finished my rewatch of all five seasons of bbc's merlin, and my sister and i decided it would be fun to keep count of how many times merlin saved arthur's life throughout the show, so here is an accumulated list:

(disclaimer: it is absolutey possible that we weren't always watching attentively and that we might have missed a case or two, but i like to believe that it is kinda accurate)

times arthur would have died if merlin hadn't saved him

• 1x01: dagger thrown at arthur ⟶ merlin slowed down time to pull arthur out of the way

• 1x02: snakes supposed to poison arthur ⟶ merlin exposes the snakes and arthur kills them

• 1x04: poisoned cup ⟶ merlin drinks from it instead

• 1x05: a griffin attacks them ⟶ lancelot fights it, and merlin enchants his sword/spear so that it’ll work

• 1x07: arthur is to be sacrificed to the sidhe ⟶ merlin saves him

• 1x10: ealdor gets attacked, including arthur, and they’re doomed ⟶ merlin creates a huge wind gust to save everyone

• 1x13: questing beast attacks arthur ⟶ merlin kills it

• 5x04: arthur almost got beheaded by odin ⟶ merlin created an earthquake with magic to stop that

• 5x07: arthur gets poisoned ⟶ merlin saves him with magic

• 5x08: someone wants to shoot an arrow at arthur ⟶ merlin attacks the shooter and saves arthur

and the one time he fails: 5x13, mordred stabs arthur with a sword forged on a dragon’s breath — merlin doesn’t get him to avalon in time

which brings us to a total of 27.5 times that merlin has saved arthur's life throughout the show

we also kept track of all the times arthur saved merlin's life, so here is that list:

• 1x03: merlin tells uther he is a sorcerer to save gwen (which would’ve gotten him a death sentence) ⟶ arthur convinces his father that merlin is lying out of love for gwen

• 1x04: merlin drank from a poisoned cup ⟶ arthur gets the antidote for him

• 1x11: arthur drinks poison so that merlin won’t have to ⟶ it was actually a sleeping draft though (HONORARY MENTION)

• 1x13: questing beast attacks ⟶ arthur pulled merlin out of the way

• 2x12: dead stone statue thingy attacks merlin ⟶ arthur strikes it down

• 4x01: a dorocha flies towards merlin ⟶ arthur pushes him out of the way

• 4x08: the lamia was about to kill merlin ⟶ arthur comes in at just the right time

which brings us to a total of 6.5 times that arthur saved merlin's life

it's kind of crazy to me to compare it like this, because on the one hand 27 near-death experiences across 65 episodes doesn't really sound like a lot. but at the same time i can't believe that arthur would have died 27 times if it hadn't been for merlin. and to think that arthur only saved merlin's life 6 times though?? oof

on my next rewatch, my sister and i want to make a list of all the moments that contributed to arthur's death (a so-called "doom list" with moments like merlin poisoning morgana in 2x13 etc), but that one is definitely going to be more subjective, since it'll be based on things that we think could've prevented arthur's death if they had gone any different

Reese Kelly headcanon please and thank you

This contains mild spoilers, just to be safe I put it under the cut. And heads up, I talk about food quite a bit so if that's a trigger for you, maybe skip this one. This is highly dependent on which Episode 4 ending you get since it's not possible with two of the endings.

One of my Reese headcanons is that now that he can eat anything *cough* he gets really into trying all sorts of foods and learning how to cook and bake. Stella is of course thrilled to teach him! I think Reese finds out he enjoys lots of types of food. He also ends up loving cooking and baking! It's a new way for him to express his creativity, playing with flavors and textures is essentially a whole new medium. And maybe it becomes another way for him to show his love for the people he really cares about.

Just don't ask him to make a normal looking meal, because he styles all the food to look beautiful and macabre. The food is all great, though some folks might be put off by the presentation. I think you'll find that he carves potatoes into skulls before roasting them, or he perfected a tomato and balsamic vinegar based sauce that looks eerily like blood. You know, normal stuff!

Also, I think he has a really high spicy tolerance. Like he's the one white boy who can eat Asian spicy food and be fine! (Not the toned down level of spicy a lot of Southeast Asian restaurants in the west serve, but like the food a Balinese person grew up eating level of spicy.) So he has to learn not to make his food too spicy for other people to eat, lol!

honestly andrew hussie is an absolutely brilliant visual storyteller. and just a brilliant artist overall. psycholonials is inspiring me to get back on the horse and draw again and go apeshit and experiment with color and composition and environment. just knowing what to use and when and how to balance what assets takes a lot of skill. people really don't give them enough credit. they're also amazing at transitions and animation.

keep in mind, this is a game where the characters often look like this:

and that most of the backgrounds are pixellated jpgs of either google earth satellite images of nantucket island, or the finest that google images has to offer. trust me—it works. and i stand by their philosophy about quick turnover 100%, because this game still manages to be god. damn. STUNNING. when it needs to be.

and appropriately crude and inscrutable when, say, what's being depicted is a pot full of boozy vomit on top of week-old leftover kraft mac and cheese, pfffft.

what's also brilliant is how unafraid they are to create visuals that are really fucking stupid. is that brilliant, or is it also just stupid? idk. i love it, either way.

ohh my god your take on Deltarune Yellow is probably my favourite just to see Kanako bullying Clover. i have GOT to see more man... what do you think the relationship with Cole and Kaede is? Did Cole get adopted by the Ketsukane's? if so thatd be the first DRY take i've ever seen to do that.

So I'll answer these question now, but I plan to draw more in the future when I have the time!

In terms of Cole, unfortunately, they are not part of the Ketsukane family, but they are in fact a member of Starlo's family! Starlo is their adopted father and they grew up most of their life on his family's corn farm. They're a very beloved grandchild to Starlo's parents. (One they never thought they were getting, frankly lol)

Cole and Kaede are actually childhood friends! Before Starlo and Cole moved into Hometown proper, Kaede's family often visited Starlo's as Ceroba and Starlo are childhood friends and Starlo is Kaede's godfather. They're families' relationship is pretty solid, though Chujin does have some reservations about Cole that he not only keeps to himself but also has been working to get past out of care for Starlo's child.

That said, Cole and Kaede are basically joined at the hip. They're constantly in contact, be it hanging out together or texting/online chat, even before Cole moved to Hometown proper. They're classmates now and Kaede is extremely excited to get to spend more time with them, constantly taking them around Hometown and inviting them to hang out with her school friends. Cole's kind of a hot topic around Hometown for a number of reasons, but mostly promoted at the hands of their best friend who won't shut up about how much she adores them.
