Sit. Stay. by redvineshark (Rated G) — this fic is sooo fucking cute it has some great moments with great dialogue between tyler and the narrator and it makes me chuckle. a very fun light read. 

Indulgence by anorchidisnotaflower (Rated T) — this fic is very quick and also very sweet I think it’s a very fun version of their first kiss and it makes me mild to severely ill on any given day (affectionate)

*I am Joe's "it's complicated" status by DoubleMastectomy (Rated T) — this fic!! this fic is sooo important to me this fic opened my third eye this fic was giving me revelations. I am deeply obsessed with the dynamic introduced in this fic and the way tyler and the narrator and marla intersect oh it made me absolutely crazy. and the ending scene with the bus ride made me lose my entire mind. 

A Reversal and Continuum by anorchidisnotaflower (Rated T) — these fics are the first two in a series, I enjoyed them so so much they do a great job at exploring tyler and the narrator’s dynamic post canon. the ending of continuum makes me kick my legs and giggle it’s so sweet ehehe. 

*Leash Called Love by edsvard (Rated T) — this fic!! This fic is soo!! I’m absolutely obsessed with the dynamic between marla and the narrator in this one, their bickering back and forth that just ends up dissolving into a normal conversation half the time is so so good. another fantastic getting together fic for the narrator and tyler. eek!!

In the Backseat of an Impala by kingdomcomeundone (Rated T) — eee this fic is quite short but it’s sooo sweet I love fics that manage to capture a bit of fluff that still feels in character for them, and I think that’s done excellently here <3 

Tease by jayyxx (Rated T) — this one is!! I loooove this fic i adore it. something something submissive tyler durden oh it has a chokehold on me i have visions of this fic while i’m trying to fall asleep at night. 

*Just To Be Real by seven2seventy (Rated T) — THIS FIC!! this is one of my absolute favorites!! this fic makes me literally lose my mind it’s one of the only fics I’ve read from tyler’s pov that gets it so so right, it’s amazing it’s incredible it had me fathoming things i had never thought to fathom. I was talking about how much i liked this fic at manar’s graduation ceremony i was spreading the gospel out loud and in person. a masterpiece tbh. 

your heart is a muscle the size of your fist by citrus_boots (Rated M) — this fic is another fun, quick one that explores the dynamic between tyler and the narrator post canon. I love reading these, they’re always so varied even though they often follow a lot of the same points, and this one does it spectacularly. 

Trip My Wire by edsvard (Rated M) — this fic is sooo fun i think it’s a really interesting getting together moment for tyler and the narrator. I’m shocked i haven’t seen more fics that incorporate breathplay and the narrator’s tie. this fic had me shaking in my boots. 

Sit-ups by catsinagraveyard (Rated M) — just another sweet, short one. exactly what it says on the tin. I love these characters so much (i am actively slipping into insanity).

*Bathtub Mermaid by load_star (Rated M) — THIS FIC WAS WRITTEN BY MY LOVELY FRIEND MANAR who i dedicate all my fics to because they’re the one who got me into fight club in the first place. I love this fic so much it makes me crazy and insane and so so happy. mandatory reading. 

So, When Do I Get My Pony? by GlitteryV (Rated E) — this is a classic, this is one of the very first fics manar sent me, directly responsible for the spores getting to me. just a fun, smutty read. 

*A Handshake of Carbon Monoxide by Weeklyoatmeal (Rated E) — THIS FIC!!! I am absolutely obsessed with this fic. I've been thinking about it all week!! It’s a great long one, one single chapter, absolutely phenomenal. literally had me shaking in my boots during my first read through, I really enjoyed this version of tyler and the narrator getting together and the ending scene is. hehe well it’s very good. 

*too much, too late by TheWholeEatingBreadThing (Rated E) — do not let the incomplete label on this one frighten you off the chapter that is posted stands alone!! please this is one of my absolute favorites!! the dynamic is something i never really would have considered, but it’s written so well i enjoy it so much!! I think about the line “I'm ovulating right now and I'd rather have your kid than his” literally every day, no exaggeration. 

Familiar Faces by Chommi (Rated E) — okay this one is actually incomplete, but I’m kind of obsessed with the premise of it?? everything posted so far is excellent and I love it so much, please if you read it leave a comment!! (and not just a “please update” comment, let the author know what you enjoyed about it!!) I’ve not seen a concept like this before and I find it very cool and fun. 

kerosene dream by ictus (Rated E) — this is another classic. when manar and i started exchanging fics, this was the first one i rebounded back at them. it’s excellent. well written, good characterization, just an overall great read. 

*recidivism (nouveau) by snuffbby (Rated E) — this. fic. oh GOD this fic. my ao3 history says i’ve visited this fic 38 times since my first read in march and i fucking believe it. this is my absolute favorite fight club fic HANDS DOWN. nothing beats this fic. literally the best getting together fic I’ve read about tyler and the narrator, incredible characterization, i love the way both of them are written, the narrators… narration, it’s SO SO GOOD. their dynamic as a couple makes me INSANE. it's got a great pace, not entierly a slow burn, more like a medium burn, and i reread the chapters where they finally get together so often. this fic made me fathom things i didn’t think i ever would, this fic influences everything i’ve written about tyler and the narrator, it opened my third eye in terms of how the two of them can fit together in a relationship. they make me crazy. please read this. it’s the best. 

Exchanging Body Heat In The Passenger Seat by chemicalburntjack (Rated E) — another absolute classic. I don’t have much to say about this one other than it’s incredibly good, I love the dynamic they’ve got going on, feels very in character for the narrator and for tyler. another excellent getting together fic, they really would go 0 to 100 like this. 

*King of the Wild Things by seven2seventy (Unrated) — another one of my absolute favorites of all time! I am OBSESSED with the religious imagery in this one, the way the narrator worships tyler ugh it makes me literally go crazy. this is another must read for me.

“How many attempts is that today?” You grumbled to Robin from the back room of Scoops Ahoy as you listened to a certain co-worker of yours try to get a girl. Key word: try.

“Let’s look, shall we?” Robin hummed, grabbing the white board. It was structured like a T-chart, the left side reading “YOU RULE” and the other “YOU SUCK”. “This is attempt number five! Let’s see how ol’ Stevie does!” She feigned excitement after showing you the tally marks at four before pressing her ear up to the sliding glass window while you rolled your eyes and flat-out turned away from Robin and pouted like a toddler being denied a cookie. You faintly heard Steve’s conversation, but when you heard Robin speak it was clear to what the result was.

She opened the window and held out the board. “Ah, poor Steve. Another one bites the dust. Better luck next time.” You could hear the faint squeaking of the marker adding a brand new tally mark. You could practically sense Steve’s eye roll before suddenly you were being spoken to.

“Hey, Henderson! How come you aren’t out here helping?” He called in annoyance.

“What, helping you pick up chicks?” You turned around and hopped off the counter with a grin. “I won’t be able to help you with that, I don’t swing that way.”

“Helping me scoop ice cream, dumbass. That’s our job, y’know. I’m gonna tell that brother of yours when he gets back and have him bother you.” Steve retorted, crossing his arms sassily.

“Oh, buzz off.” Robin groaned. “Aren’t you a big, strong man? Can’t you handle it?” She teased. “I need to talk to Henderson anyway.”

“Oh yeah, you two can have your little chit-chat but when I-”

“Uh huh! Sure, Steve! I’m sure Henderson would loooove to scoop ice cream together with you later! Just be patient and don’t get your panties in a twist!” Robin waved her hand and shut the window in his face, and she whipped around to face you.

“Dude. Tell him.”

“No!” You hissed out. “Are you insane?”

“Why not?!” She threw her hands up in the air and sat on the counter by the window.

“Why do you think he spends half his time at work flirting with random girls?” You crossed your arms, gasping in offense when Robin threw her hat at your face, knocking your own hat off in the process.

“Because, he probably thinks you’ll say no if he asks..!” Robin hissed, catching her hat that you threw back at her. “Do you not see the way that idiot looks at you? He looks like a little schoolboy with a crush! And you look at him like he’s some hot celebrity!”

“You’re just saying that.” You huffed out as Robin threw her hat back at you.

“Why would I ‘just say that’, Henderson?” Robin crossed her arms. “I wouldn’t embarrass you that badly. I’m so annoyed of you both giving each other lovey-dovey eyes. If you’re gonna make me third-wheel, at least make it official.”

“You say that like it would be easy telling him.” You chucked the hat back at Robin. “‘Hey Steve! Guess what? I have a big, fat crush on you! Isn’t that just great?!’”

“Yeah, exactly like that.”

“You’re no help.” You folded your arms, which gave you no chance to catch the hat Robin threw back at you. “Whatever, I’m gonna go do my job.”

“With Steve?” She crooned, a smug smirk on her face.

You whipped around and picked up Robin’s lost hat along with your own that had fallen, and hurled both hats at Robin. At that moment, Robin ducked and the window opened.

“Hey, what the hell?!” Steve groaned as two hats smacked him in the face, which led to Robin falling on the floor cackling.

You couldn’t help a faint giggle escaping your lips. “Sorry Steve!” You said, catching your own hat he threw back at you. “I was just about to come and keep you company.” You carefully adjusted the stupid hat on your head. Company policy.

“Yeah yeah.” Steve huffed a little. “Just come on.” He said, watching as you came out of the back room and stood by his side.

“At least it doesn’t seem TOO busy today.” You hummed, taking out your ice cream scooper from your belt and flipping it up in the air. “Why did you need my help?”

“I was bored.” Steve shrugged, leaning against the wall and folding his arms. “What were you and Robin talking about?”

“Uh…none of your business?” You cocked an eyebrow.

Steve clicked his tongue, nodding. “Hmm…so you aren’t gonna tell me about the ‘big, fat crush you have on me’, huh?”

A loud clatter came from the ice cream scooper you didn’t catch as it fell to the floor.

“Pftt, yeah you think I didn’t hear that little conversation?”

“Uh…hey! Look at the time, my shift is over!” You blurted out, looking at your watch and you were about to just leave the store but Steve had gently grabbed your wrist.

“You still have ten minutes, Henderson.” His voice was softer than you expected. “Why are you freaking out?”

“What do you mean why am I freaking out? I’m not freaking out, are you freaking out? No one’s freaking out.” You breathed out.

“…you do realize I like you too, right?”

“…what?”

Steve breathed out a little shakily and let go of your wrist, trying to keep his voice down. “I…” he mumbled something, but you couldn’t hear since he was being so quiet.

“Steve?”

“I heard kinda everything. And it’s mostly all right. I didn’t think you liked me.” He tossed his hat off and ran a hand through his hair. “So like…why would I bother? And even if I did anything, would it happen like it happened with Nancy?”

“Oh…I didn’t know you felt that way.” You said, honestly very surprised. “I didn’t think…you’d like me.”

His eyebrows furrowed and the corners of his lips turned down into a frown. “What? Of course I like you. You’re…incredible. Everything I’ve ever wanted. Hell, Henderson, I think I liked you before I liked Nancy Wheeler. You just were always so quiet and so smart and I was used to all the people liking me not bothering to hide it. I never figured you would like a cocky asshat like me. Especially since I didn’t stop any of my ‘friends’ from making fun of you.”

You blushed. “I’ve had a crush on you for a long time.” You admitted. “Since around the middle of junior high. I stared at you in every class we had together. All my friends made fun of me. Told me I had no chance with a guy like Steve Harrington. I never lost hope. Maybe you remember, but we had a project together once. Yeah I did all of it, but I didn’t care. I got to be with you, even if it was for a little.” You chuckled airily, feeling a little relieved to let all of this out so somebody that wasn’t your diary. “I wrote your name in the corners of my notebook, all that corny stuff. It was a little pathetic.”

Steve’s eyes were wide when you looked at him again. “Are you serious?” He said softly, a dumb grin finding a way onto his face. “You really do like…like me?”

“Yes, of course I do.”

“Like…like like me?”

“Yes, Steve..!” You smiled a little as his grin only grew wider.

“Yes! I like you!”

“Yeah!”

“And you like me!”

“Exactly!”

“That’s crazy!!”

Then, the window opened and Robin’s smug face appeared as the two of you looked over, confusion replacing the smiles. She slowly pulled up the whiteboard with the tally marks and uncapped the marker, hovering it over the surface…

Things that have happened this year that I’m absolutely thrilled about

Got a home with my boyfriend that we’re working on fixing up!

Got engaged.

Got my name change and gender marker change ALMOST done. Officially changed next month!

Went to a top surgery consult, got approved and am just waiting on a call back for a surgery date!

Got promoted at one of my jobs and my manager at my other is trying her hardest to get me promoted there too!

Dropped any and all people that weren’t going to make me the best version of myself.

Made a bunch of new friends, mostly other trans folk!

Got a second cat to keep Dash company.

Got a shit ton of tattoos

Found out my mother wants to become a tattoo artist and helped her by being a human canvas. I loooove her work so far and cannot wait to see the good shot she gets done.

Started talking to my father more along with my brothers.

Got a new therapist that helps a lot and found out that writing things out actually helps me a bunch.

Got back on testosterone.

Made enough money to redo my whole wardrobe which honestly was perfect timing for the house.

Got my fiancé a therapist so he has someone to talk to as well so we can work on his anxiety together.

Got back into playing guitar and redid my setup for twitch.

That’s pretty much it, I’m just really grateful how smoothly everything’s been going so far and that I haven’t had any problems with anyone in a long while. I hadn’t had a single thought about my ex which has been good for both me and Kaden. I’ve had time to grow and all the good things that came out of it really helped me realize that going out separate ways was really the right choice. I wish things had ended differently and I hope he’s living his best life right now too. Everything has a funny way of getting better in the right environment.

I overthink things so much and will over analyze anything and everything. I stress out often too so there's a lot of nights where I just don't sleep. I love affection a lot, both giving and receiving. I have really bad motor tics that happen when I'm stressed, cold, or excited. It can end up with me thrashing around on my bed or collapsed on the floor from my legs suddenly giving out. No one knows why I have them. Not even doctors. Hey Jo, how does one get into knitting or embroidery or crocheting????? You talk about it sometimes and I would love to get into it but alas I know nothing

Thank you so much for asking this question! I loooove talking about this stuff.

The best way to learn any of these crafts is directly from someone else, because you can have your questions answered right away, and they can help you fix your mistakes before they become problems. If you know someone who crafts in the ways you’re interested in, don’t be afraid to ask if they’re willing to teach you! I personally love showing people how to knit/crochet.

But if you don’t know anyone (and you can afford it), places like JoAnn’s or your local yarn store often offer beginner classes. Youtube is also great!! I’m currently learning how to make socks from a youtube series. Just be sure that if you go this route, you’re watching videos that correspond to your handedness until you’ve got it down pat.

I haven’t done much embroidery. I mostly just admire it, because I find it beautiful but exhausting. It’s significantly more time consuming than knitting or crochet – you sit for hours and only get a few square inches of color out of it. (This is also true of knitting socks, however.) You’ll probably stab yourself much more frequently, too. But if you find such things fulfilling and that’s where you want to invest your time and money, there are plenty of how-to’s on youtube!

I’ll let you choose what you think would be best to start with. Here are the basic materials you’ll need for each!

Knitting: 

Knitting needles! I recommend starting with straight needles in size 8 or thereabouts if you’re just wanting to try it out. They come in metal, bamboo, and acrylic. Which you go with doesn’t really matter, but some people have complained that metal is too slippery for their taste, and I’ve snapped several acrylic needles by accident.

Worsted weight yarn in your preferred color. Here’s a good guide to yarn weights – the little skein with the number is a symbol you’ll find printed on most (branded, not handspun/small batch) labels. I would start with acrylic yarn, since it’s cheap, but you can use whatever you’re drawn to.

Tapestry/Yarn needles, which are fat silver needles with a dull point and an eye big enough to draw yarn through. You’ll use it to weave your tails in after you’re done.

OPTIONAL: Point protectors, stitch markers, and a small crochet hook. Point protectors are little rubber stoppers for the ends of your needles. It saves you from stabbing yourself in the butt, and also from dropping stitches when you aren’t working. You don’t usually need them; I generally just stab my needles through the skein of yarn. As for stitch markers, they help you keep track of knitting/purling/turns/etc. You probably won’t need them until you want to start making things like socks, sweaters, etc. And you don’t have to get anything costly – I use tiny split keyrings and small safety pins. The crochet hook is especially helpful for picking up dropped stitches – I use my smallest hook for that, 1.5mm, but you can also muddle through with your fingers, or rip out a row.

How to cast on + How to knit + How to purl + How to cast off = Now you can make a simple scarf!

Note: There are two ways of knitting – English and Continental [comparison video]. I learned English, and am re-learning Continental because it’s faster.

Crochet:

Crochet hook(s). 4mm is a good middle-of-the-road size to start with. Unlike knitting needles, you only need one full set because they don’t come in different lengths, only different diameters. They’re usually about $2 per hook, but if you want chunky, easy-to-hold handles then the price can hike up to $7 each, and even more if they’re handmade.

Worsted weight yarn, see above.

Tapestry/Yarn needles, see above.

Stitch markers are, again, optional. They’re usually only necessary for circular/tube crochet, which is something you probably won’t start off with (but you can!)

How to chain, How to single crochet, How to double crochet

How to make a granny square. Make a few hundred of these and you’ve got yourself a blanket!

Embroidery: 

Embroidery needles 

DMC thread (draw an arm’s length out and separate the strands – six is almost always too many)

Fabric [how to choose a fabric]

Embroidery hoops. Wood is cheaper than plastic, but plastic doesn’t loosen as much while you work.

Thimble

Optional but recommended items include such things as a pin cushion, a needle minder, and a water-soluble pen for transferring designs onto fabric. I use a pencil.

Other advice:

The absolute best place to find knitting and crochet patterns is ravelry.com. You have to sign up to search patterns, but it doesn’t cost you anything, many of the patterns are free, and it’s a great way to organize your projects!

One thing to take into consideration is that if you’re a person with a somewhat short attention span, or who just prefers to have multiple projects going at once for whatever reason, knitting can be a huge pain. Your work has to stay on your needles until you’re done with the project, and since a lot of patterns use the same size needles, you either gotta buy multiples or you sit around working on a project until you loathe looking at it. With crochet, however, you only have one active stitch at a time, so you can just pull the working yarn out into a big loop, wrap it around your skein, and use the hook for something else without fear of it all unravelling!

If you’re planning on shopping at a big yarn store, Michael’s is almost always cheaper than JoAnn’s, and they always always always have coupons on their website. (As does Hobby Lobby, but they’re expensive and mean so like. Shop at your own risk lol.) Local yarn stores tend to be hecking expensive (needles I pay $8 for at a craft store cost $15 at my LYS) and they’re also often…..elitist. You wouldn’t expect something like this to be clique-y, but here we are.

If you want a low-key place to knit or crochet with other people, public libraries almost always have a group that meets every week or two. Look it up online or ask your local librarian!

If it’s a date and he seems to have his shit together, then I’m fine. I don’t like getting paid for all the time though. Not a date, I’ll question and probably fight it.

Anny. Easily. Bitch gets to fly on this fancy airline to Australia all the time.

Depends on how high paying. If like double my current salary, then yeah. At least for a little so I can pay down some of my debt 😂

Sometimes I “forget” to scan things at the Target self checkout. Nothing’s ever happened.

Like in comparison to so much of America, yes absolutely. I do have student debt and regular debt, and I’m living paycheck to paycheck. But I live well. So.

Sin 4: Sloth

Velocity QA.

2. When you’re at a strip mall and the next store you want to go to is at the other side, do you drive over there instead of take a short walk?

I usually just walk.

3. What’s a typical day off of school and/or work like for you?

Sleep in, probably work out at some point if I’m purposely taking off, watch YouTube, probably play Dead by Daylight. Maybe walk Teddy. Hopefully nothing else.

4. What’s one talent you have that you don’t really work on, even though you have the ability to be good at it?

Uhhh I mean I’m a good singer but I don’t do anything with it anymore.

5. How many hours of television do you watch a day?

Like actual tv very little. I put on YT most of the time these days when I get home until I go to bed.

6. What about the amount of time you spend on the internet a day?

I’m almost always on my phone just poking around the web. All day.

7. How many hours of sleep do you get a day? Do you sleep in late?

I don’t typically sleep in that much, though some of these weekends I’ve really taken advantage. I’m usually in bed around midnight and get up around 7:30ish if I’m not working out in the morning.

8. Do you drive to places that are less than three blocks away?

Nah my neighborhood is quite walkable.

9. When was the last time you exercised?

Today. Bout to get up in 7 hours to run 7 miles lolol.

10. Ever copied and pasted your homework from a website on the internet?

Probably though I definitely tried to make it look at least a little more like mine.

Sin 5: Wrath

1. If you could kill one person and get away with it, would you do it?

Like how would I have to kill them though? Like if I could somehow poison Donald Trump from afar I totally would.

2. Is there anyone you honestly and truly can say that you hate?

Yeah dude have you seen some of the assholes in DC lately?

3. Is there anyone you want revenge on, whether you want to get them back big-time or just play a little prank on them for hurting your feelings?

Yep. I would love for my old friends to feel ashamed and embarrassed about being total dicks to me. They deserve a comeuppance.

4. Are you fighting with any friends right now? Why?

Fighting? No.

5. Last time you were really angry? What happened?

James and I stopped talking yesterday but that’s only partially because I was angry. Partially it was him being a coward so 🤷🏽‍♀️

6. When you’re angry, what do you do to calm yourself down?

I text people for feedback. I vent. I sometimes raise my voice.

7. “Hate is just the fear of loving someone.” true or false?

Psh. Love and hate are both passionate emotions but I don’t think they’re that similar. Love involves respect.

8. What’s the best revenge you ever got on someone?

I haven’t actually gotten revenge, unless you count I Told You Sos, in which case I’ve had plenty. I have good instincts.

9. Was there any hard feelings after your last break-up? On whose end was it on?

Actual last relationship was Austin. He technically broke up with me, but then we had a non-commital thing for months afterwards because we were a good match in bed. There were hard feelings because he was a selfish asshole in the end.

10. Ever been cheated on? How did that make you feel?

Not that I know of? Though late-stage Austin definitely felt like it when he was hooking up with other people and we were still sometimes together. Shitty feeling. It’s really just bad optics, the person is trying to have their cake and eat it too. Just come clean that you don’t want them anymore.

I am an extremely envious person. Currently I’m most jealous of Toni, because she’s engaged to my Brad. I am neither engaged nor with him.

Some jealousy is healthy but it’s obvious when it’s too much.

I work a lot. I have a very cute dog.

Yes. I’m very competitive. I think it’s a good thing, it pushes you to be a better you. Mostly. Just don’t go overboard.

Yeah for sure. There’s so much culture to celebrate it’d be a waste not to lift it up.
