Full page of my Elanorre sketches, btw!!! Just wanted to see what I could extrapolate from her in-game sprite, and add my own touches...

First one (fully colored) was me getting a feel for what I'm working with, and the pencil sketches on the side are me figuring out where I can go from here/how things look broken down...

Roach has grammatical gender, in which only Male, Female, and Object are grammatical genders, whereas Worker uses feminine grammar, Queen and King use a slight variant on feminine grammar, and Drone, and Queen-Alate use masculine grammar. This is because King is derived from Queen, due to their similar positions in a colony, and Queen-Alate is derived from Drone, as both are forms of alate.

Queen is an alteration of feminine grammar that functionally just adds a handful of extra syllables to it, and King is an offsprout of Queen that uses the same grammar with different pronouns. Queen-Alate, despite the name, is derived from Drone, as they are both for referring to different types of alate ant.

Most Roach dialects are intelligible to speakers of Snakemouth Den Cordyceps Roach, but Snakemouth Den Cordyceps Roach is not entirely intelligable to speakers of Roach dialects due to a mix of the excessively specialized vocabulary caused by the specific needs of its speakers, the fact that its speakers do not necessarily have Roach mouthparts and thus may not pronounce syllables in a similar way, and due to the fact that Inanimate Object is a full grammatical gender that does not exist in any other dialect of roach and replaces a decent chunk of terminology for things that previously had Other Words For Them.

Ok no bc to piggyback off that Mary post, this might be something people have been saying for a long time but I do genuinely think that Amara giving Dean “what he needs most” was not his mother but to break the idea he has of what a family is, and that’s part of what makes that arc so fascinating to me

#I’m sick with some type of stomach bug so bear with me #deans always had this very western traditional white picket fence idea of what a family structure is #probably bc that’s how his life started and that’s what he saw other kids have and it’s what John always complained about them NOT having #and he spends his whole life chasing this idea #arguably you could say that Amara too spent her life chasing a family dynamic that simply wasn’t possible for her #and eventually she agrees to make peace with what she has and what IS possible (pre end stuff ofc)#and she clocks Dean RIGHT away lmao #and she sees that what Dean needs isn’t a fantasy about what his life could have been like #he needs to accept what he has now and make the best of it #and also to understand that there’s more to parents than just being parents -a lesson he’s been internalizing for years considering he views #himself as Sam’s parent as well #he’s soooo angry that he was always reduced to Sam’s caretaker by his father #(rightfully so he was a child im not saying that anger isn’t justified)#only to project that anger onto Mary when she’s not just a caring mother but a fully developed person with her own trauma and needs #what Dean needs to learn is that he’ll never have a perfect made for tv family bc that’s not how real families work #and he needs to learn that family is also chosen as much as it is decided for you (ie. ohhhhh man like for a while ive been on board w the idea that kinger if he was a bug that hed be a moth and i mostly like it bc it creates a good contrast between him and queenie, plus moths being associated w phototaxis, and how often kinger gets shown w butterflies being kinda evocative of him n queenie. but i was watching a panel and sean mentions the idea of kinger being a rhinoceros beetle. which is ALSO cute. but the idea of the horn being the cross made me have the epiphany that kinger should be!!! a treehopper!!!!!!

i mean for one they have a similar funny horn situation that can easily be designed to look like the cross. but more IMPORTANTLY!!! is that some treehoppers exhibit mutualism with ants (!!!) BUT!!! also some treehoppers are presocial, aka they will live communally and take care of young and its SO SO fitting w his outlook that a bug that hed be a bug that takes care of each other....

(also theyre SUPER jumpy which is FITTING TOO. and they have HUGE EYES)discussion
