I just had a dream where I basically reimagined dps and there was all these extra scenes that explained that mr perry was so hard on Neil because he was also gay (there was a whole sequence of when he was younger and in love with someone) and he didn’t want Neil to be gay too

Todd is nervous so Neil stays close to him the whole time but not PDA so that he feels safe, even though he kinda wants to be louder and more obvious and Todd says hes fine but Neil knows hes not

Meeks is walking around handing out pamphlets abt rallies and gay history and stuff and pitts is sort of following around

Charlie and Neil both do drag at some point and they all show up in support of them

Knox brings Chris and ginny one year as an ally, and then has a crisis when he realises he's bi

Todd wears earplugs the whole time, and hangs out with Meeks for some of it bc hes the only other one who's willing to be quiet

in 1985 a movie called Explorers came out, the cast had three main boys, well guess who two of those boys are?

river pheonix and ethan hawke.

so an au where neil perry is played by river pheonix! and alsoo the two couldve met as children instead of teens (which this movie only came out 4 years before dps so its not a huge time skip, so if u wanna go explicitly by the pics then theyd meet earlier than they did in dps but either way works imo)

this version also probably wouldve been js as queer coded w river, in my own private idaho he plays a character whos in love w his best friend (100% canonically!!) so no need to worry about losing anderperry

so for the longest time i've had this idea for a soulmate au that idk if it's a thing, but rather than someone's first words bc as a demiromantic being i could never, you have the most important words someone will say to you tattooed on you. and you can have more than one and there's no indicator of what kinda relationship it's going to be, you can freely choose that, it's just sorta something that says "the person that says this to you? yeah, they're a keeper"

charlie dalton: would love teaching their daughter swear words, and to todd and neils horror she loves repeating them:

charlie: 'hey little girl, say fuck. c'mon, you can do it'

todd: *covering their daughters ears* 'STOP IT CHARLIE SHES ONLY 18 MONTHS OLD!'

daughter: "uck! uck!"

he also sneaks her chocolates past her bedtime:

charlie: "dont tell your daddies i gave you this okay?"

but then the next morning todd finds her with chocolate around the corners of her mouth and knows EXACTLY what happened

gerard pitts: loves picking her up and throwing her around, the daughter has the time of her life, though her parents are extremely worried about what could happen to her..

pitts: *swinging their daughter around in the air*

daughter: "WHEEEEEEEE HIGHER HIGHER!"

neil: "Lower! Lower! how about you put her down on the ground!!!!!!!!!!"

she also loves sitting on pittsies shoulders bc 'he's so high and i can see the whole world from up here' (her words not mine)

richard cameron: everyone thought he wouldnt be good with kids but anderperry trust cameron with their daughter most. she really loves him too! they have a lot of movie nights and cameron remembers EVERY. SINGLE. THING. she ever told him.

what she named the bug she found last month? duhh its ellie green

her favourite character from beauty and the beast? cogsworth ofc (idc if timelines dont match atp)

even though her favourite song changes every week, cameron still remembers what it is. he just adores this little girl and loves listening to her little stories (all the poets do btw)

I dunno if Todd would ever actually paint, I like to think that he would, although he probably wouldn’t show anyone exept for Neil? maybe. My guy is very self conscious about his art (Ahem *Cough* *cough* maybee i’m projecting myself onto him, oopsie)

But Todd would probably draw Neil in his sketchbook over and over, sort of like Miles from Across The Spider-Verse draws Gwen OVER and Over. If anyone looked in the sketchbook (Charlie 🤨) they would be like, “Wow.”

I can also kind of see this going the other way around, Neil drawing Todd a lot. 🤷🤷

Listening to What A Catch Donnie and realizing how much of a Dead Poets song it is:

"I've got troubled thoughts and the self esteem to match" - self explanatory, self esteem issues, suicidal thoughts

"And all I can think of is the way I'm the one who charmed, the one who gave up on you" - Neil, the one who charmed Todd and helped him come out of his shell ever so slightly, and yet the one who ended up "giving up" on life, which in essence meant giving up on Todd

"They say the captian goes down with the ship, so when the world ends, will God go down ith it?" - Keating, the captian, went down with the ship, the ship being Neil. This leads to many of the poets world's "ending" and we see how devastated these kids are, which could lead to loss of hope

"Ms. Flack, said I still want you back" - these kids want their earlier life back. They want Keating back and they want Neil back

"I will never end up like him" - Todd and Jeff, self explanatory, also maybe could be about the other poets and how they're not like Neil, they aren't suicidal and they don't have these crazy beliefs

"Behind my back, I already am" - they are like Neil, they do have these "crazy" ideals "Carpe diem"

"Keep a calendar this way you will always know" - Neil's suicide date, Todd's birthday

Then ofc we have the lyrics from the other songs that were added in here

"Where is your boy tonight I hope he is a gentleman, maybe he won't find out what I know" - this could be about Chris and Knox if you want it to, or Anderperry and how they're in love, but cannot say anything because of the stigma against queer people at the time

"We're going down, down in an earlier round, and sugar were going down swinging" - Neil technically went down swinging, he went down after doing one of the things he loves the most for the first and last time

"Dance, dance, we're falling apart to half time, dance dance, these are the lives you'd love to lead" - the poets and how they're constantly falling apart and how they have these dreams that they would much rather be persuing, but are instead being pushed to go down other paths by other people

"This ain't a scene it's a goddamn arms race" - Neil's suicide being framed as a way to get Keating fired instead of the tragedy it was

"One night, one more time" -Neil's last performance on stage before its over

"Thanks for the memories, even though they weren't so great" -Welton. It provided Neil with friends and an enjoyable time, despite all that went into it to make it unenjoyable

"He tastes like you, only sweeter" - gonna require some more pondering on this line

Anyway, this was just a fun little analysis on this song, don't take it seriously I just like fall out boy and the dead poets society
