Ok, spoilers for this year hellfire gala. This is going to be an overall gush, probably barely coherent. I’ll try to intercalate positive and negatives?
What in the actual fuck?!
First of all, the Kamala resurrection was exactly as meaningless, corporative and boring as expected. I just can’t wait to see what stupid power they come up with as her mutant gift (supposing of course that the terrigen/x-gene incompatibility will be solved trivially on an artificially convenient moment [like her whole death and resurrection was]). Also (and I’m jumping the horse a little, but this is a really meaningless nitpick that just stayed on my mind) how does she know the X-men red triangle psychic resistance thingy?
Scott wearing his old Champions suit? Complete flop. He can’t sell it at all. But I do find it cute and endearing, and this is exactly the pathetic Summers behavior that I’m here for.
The G.O.D.S. cameo was really clunky. I mean, I know nothing about those people, apart that they didn’t help at all on the whole thing (and maybe they have a reason for that. I wouldn’t know) and that Wyn is hot. I may give it a chance for more Wyn.
Speaking of hot, David? Slay. Emma? Slay. Jubilation? Slay. Kate? Omega slay. Like, if this is the last hellfire (and I don’t mean this on a “wow, this could have everlasting consequences” way, but a “yeah, I don’t think they should try to sell this idea again for two or three years”), at least they could serve until the end. Imagine how funny all the Charles drama would be if he was wearing his stupid baby pope atire from the first gala?!
The avengers? As pointless as expected. Nothing new under the sun, and I actually appreciate that they are useless on X-titles.
About the New York Arbor Magna thing, can we please have Cyclops leading the team on a wheelchair for like… this whole phase? It would be so weird, and fun, and iconic! Like, having Charles walking around (or, I don’t know, dying alone on that freaking beach? I would enjoy that.) and Scott brooding on a chair? Absolutely fantastic. I do think Emma and Scott leading again could be a nice echo to last time.
Because… we are having a new (supposedly) mutant genocide again. Imagine being resurrected from Genosha, or Decimation, or the Terrigen stuff, and immediately dying again? Lol. The concept is so so overdone at this point. It doesn’t preserve the impact at all.
On the other hand, you know that post about how every queer person has a universe-appointed C tier X-men character to love and cherish? I do think my baby Explodey-boy is dead know. Absolutely homophobic behavior.
I do enjoy Stasis and Nimrod very much. At this point, I would devour an orchis tittle if they promised me absolute lack of Moira and Feilong (as they are, in fact, shit). When Stasis said that Charles understood powers of ten? And the dancing? Send me shivers. Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping (…).
I also think Jean stole the scene a little bit. I’m not usually a Jean stan, but god dammit she is so strong. And like, not only in the Omega Telepath Phoenix way, she has so much presence and name, inside and outside the world, that so much can be supported by her. I feel like the whole story is hanging by her absoluteness of a character. And Maddie holding her??? Aaaaaa
That’s it, I guess… just wanted to do my overall first impression. I do like the Krakoa era very much, and the last decade or so have taught me to take apparent big status quo changes with a grain of salt (I mean, Emma is supposed to marry flop Stark in four or five chapters, right?! Things should probably be relatively stable by them), but I can see myself enjoying the change of pace a little.
By far the worst gala? Yeah. For sure. Like, criminally bad chapter. But I do see some things planted that could end up being really fun.

Gwenpool definitely reads and writes fanfic for the askgame please?
So the bit for this fic was that Gwen wanted to engineer a romance between herself and a fiction character she had a crush on using fanfic tropes to ensure that she'd get together with the character. She goes to Wade because he helped with her last romance scheme and he knows Peter who knows the crush so the four of them go on a mission that leads to fanfic shenanigans but the tropes keep bringing spideypool together instead of Gwen and her crush but in the end she's happy for them.
I couldn't get this fic to work because 1) translating Gwen's powers to fanfic is a pain in the ass 2) I couldn't figure out a character to pair her with because she doesn't have chemistry or state any desire for really any character. and now with recent developments, I see why. I might try to rewrite this fic with Earth 65 Gwen Stacy because I think they'd be cute and the spideypool parallels.
anyway here's a snippet
Wade walks into his apartment and notices a faint glow from the living room just as he’s about to flip on the lights. Goddamn it, he doesn’t want to deal with any more shit tonight. He’s already walking off a stab wound from patrol with Spidey, he’s not about to get another one from some would-be threat. He shouldn’t have gone home, should have asked Spidey if he wanted to stay out with him, maybe order a pizza. But he didn’t ask because Spidey would have said no.
With a sigh, Wade pulls a gun and walks into the living room.
“Oh, for fucks sake,” Wade groans.
It’s the pink version of him who doesn’t even have the decency to steal his healing factor or skills. Just his costume design, job, and his goddamn name. Gwenpool is sitting in his living room with a single lamp on, illuminating her in a suitably dramatic fashion, beaming at him like a kid waiting to open presents on Christmas morning.
“What the hell do you want?” Wade sighs, pointing the gun at her.
“Your help,” Gwen says unflinchingly.
“Finally looking for some real combat training?” Wade asks. He flicks on the living room lights. Fuck her little spotlight. “Well, tough because—”
“I don’t need training.” Gwen rolls her eyes, kicking her feet up onto the coffee table. “I’ve got plot armor, bullets go where they’re supposed to when it’s important.”
Wade rolls his eyes and walks into the kitchen. “And they think I’m crazy.”
“No, Wade, come back, this is an emergency!” Gwen whines.
“Whatever it is,” Wade says, “it can wait till I microwave some pizza rolls.”
“Ooh, can I have some?” Suddenly Gwen is hovering over his shoulder, bouncing on the balls of her feet, staring at the pizza rolls with heart eyes. Wade swears that there are literal hearts in her eyes. Whatever, he’s learned questioning this shit tends to lead to bottomless existential dread.
“Fuck you, get out of my house.” Wade dumps some more pizza rolls on the plate for her.
“Aren’t you supposed to be on mutant island right now?” Wade asks. “They finally catch on that you’re not one? Try to pull a fast one on the wrong x-men? Trust me, been there, done that, just fake some memory loss, and they’ll let you back into the club.”
“I am still welcome in Krakoa, thank you very much,” Gwen says, “and no, I have a boyfriend.”
“That you ditched for Reed Richards of all people.”
“That was…” Gwen trails off with a frown “...a lapse in judgment—”
“You have a lot of those.”
“—and I was just trying to stay relevant. Dude, I haven’t had a book in years, all I got was one panel at the Hellfire gala since then.”
“Okay, well if you don’t have a ‘book’—” Wade puts air quotes around the word, he’s done with all that thinking he’s in a comic book nonsense. He chooses to believe that what he can see, hear, smell, taste, and touch are real, for better or for worse. “—well what’s this?”
“A fanfiction, obviously.”

With some of their own abducted by S.H.I.E.L.D. and assimilated into Pleasant Hill, the Quiet Council of Krakoa met for an emergency meeting to discuss how to proceed. Although they came to a solution, it turned out to be rather unconventional and paved the way for conflict in the future.
THIS IS OFFICIAL CHAT LOG COVERAGE OF THE IC
EMMA FROST/WHITE QUEEN (616): Unacceptable. It was simply unacceptable. There was no way around it. Some offenses were excusable and others were absolutely not. This? This was not. S.H.I.E.L.D. had been disrespectful more times than anyone could count in the past. They had lied and betrayed and done just about every other offense, but straight up kidnapping and brainwashing on a scale that warped reality was a new one. The former White Queen was far from impressed. White gloves covered the hand that propped Emma’s head up. She watched the proceedings with disinterested eyes before straightening when the group fell silent. “They have my daughter.” Her voice cut across the chamber. “My daughter. Your friends, your loved ones. Gone. Even the ones we’ve reclaimed still aren’t ours. Are we to take this laying down or we will finally act?”
KATE PRYDE/RED QUEEN (616): "We should've stormed the gates a long time ago." Kate glances up from where she's picked her cuticles raw. "I'm tired of meetings, aren't you?"
SCOTT SUMMERS/CYCLOPS (616): Scott takes in the room around him; goes from chewing one side of his cheek to the other. He'd not technically a chair on this council -- that was a decision he'd made years ago. But Jean is gone. Naturally, he is the one to take her place. "While I'm more than aware our people need to be rescued, we can't go in with some half baked plan and not expect to end up just like them. Any got any ideas?"
ORORO MUNRO/STORM (616): The Council sits fractured. Hope is gone, lost to Pleasant Hill. Irene has been recovered but is not herself. Sinister is -- well, Nathaniel is something else entirely that they don’t have time to get into. Shaw has declined to attend. Ororo herself sees the cracks where they should have been unified and they concern her. She isn’t scared, but she isn’t pleased. “Half baked plan like the last time.” She points out. “The time when we let Natasha Romanoff lead a charge into the town, resulting not only in gunfire but explosions as well.” That’s aimed at the blue skinned mutant who sits across the way. “I believe we take matters into our own hands now.” That’s why she’s invited Erik to sit in, in part. He’s a man of action, and that’s what they need.
CHARLES XAVIER/PROFESSOR X (616): “Judging by how dreadful everyone looks, I’m not to keen to believe it won’t just be half baked plan part two,” Charles shook his head, one hand reaching up to swipe at his brow from beneath the helmet before folding his arms in disdain, “This conversation isn’t exactly instilling confidence.”
KATE PRYDE (616): "You're doing a whole lot of blabbing without any contribution, Charles." Kate snaps, sliding further down in her chair. She remembers a time when that man basically walked on water and then turned it into wine in Kate's eyes. And then there was Krakoa. And then there was quite literal death. Her patience is thin at best. "What if we just wage war against SHIELD? I feel like we could make it stick this time."
RAVEN DARKHOLME/MYSTIQUE (616): Irene was gone. Irene was gone. They had taken her. From right under Raven’s goddamn nose, her wife had been kidnapped. Some would consider her resulting actions to be extreme. Shooting the ( LMD ) of Maria, attempting to blow up the town. They weren’t extreme. They were necessary. Even now with Irene back in their home, it wasn’t the same. Her wife had been warped into a stranger who, although had eyes that could see, was blind to reality. “When I suggest waging war it’s frowned upon.” Raven’s tone remains low. “But perhaps it’s more palatable if coming from Katherine.” Everyone at the table must know that there’s nothing that can stop her from righting this. She doesn’t care about Jean or Hope or Esme. It’s about fixing Irene now. “We shouldn’t be focused on breaking out those we’ve left behind, but healing those we have.”
EMMA FROST (616): “Maybe that comes from the fact that Katherine hasn’t proven herself to be rash and illogical.” Emma flashes pointed teeth. “She thinks through her actions and presents them to the people she’s working with instead of flying off the handle.” Is Emma bitter that Irene got Hope and Logan got Jean but Esme remains? Of course she is. Emma is nothing if not petty. “Just a thought, darling.”
CHARLES XAVIER (616): Charles scoffed audibly at Raven’s declaration before standing up out of his chair and leaning in her direction, palms on the table, “What, and leave the rest of them to rot?”
RAVEN DARKHOLME (616): A shoulder shrugs. “You win some, you lose some.”
KURT WAGNER/NIGHTCRAWLER (616): “Fighting amongst ourselves is not going to bring our friends back.” Kurt finally spoke up from his seat next to Storm, eyeing Kate sympathetically. It wasn’t as if he wanted to call her out, but the bickering wouldn’t help anyone. The Council needed to be united on this. Raven was more than distraught over Irene’s capture, which meant that Kurt was distraught. Seeing his mother in such pain… Something had to be done. But war? That didn’t feel like the answer either. “Is that even possible? Their reality has been altered.” Unless they just killed the lot of them and resurrected everyone. But without Hope the process was sure to be tedious.
KATE PRYDE (616): Kate tries to hide her grimace. She can't. "This is more than just about rescuing our people." Her voice is quieter now, as if she's testing our her thoughts before committing to them. "This is about making sure this can never happen again."
ORORO MUNRO (616): “We must think about what we are saying here.” The words are a gentle warning directed at Kate -- a woman Ororo dearly loves. “If we attempt to wage war with S.H.I.E..D., we do not know how they will retaliate. This is them unprovoked.”
BENNET DU PARIS/EXODUS (616): "Ah, now there's an idea." Bennet smirked, hearing Kurt's last thoughts. He looked to the blue mutant before speaking, but didn't plan on giving away who it was that truly came up with the plan he was about to expose. "Rescuing everyone from the town might be a fruitless endeavor. We need to be thinking outside the box, don't you think? We wouldn't need to save them all if they were all dead. Then we could simply resurrect them here, safe and sound. And of course, it would be helpful to have Hope first. But it could work."
KATE PRYDE (616): "Are you fucking insane?" This time, her voice is not anywhere near quiet.
CHARLES XAVIER (616): Seated again, Charles removed his helmet slowly, revealing a horrified and disappointed expression hiding beneath, “Yes, because that’s more logical than waging war against S.H.I.E.L.D.,” Charles eyed the pink man from across the table, “Honestly, Bennet it’s insulting to even suggest—” Charles trailed off, eyeing Kurt as well. He was well aware of where the thought had originated. Kurt at least had the decency to keep it to himself.
EMMA FROST (616): “I’ve heard worse ideas,” the blonde muses. “An exception to harm no man isn’t unheard of. It’s not as if we’re killing the people we know and love.” She can’t help but slide her gaze to where Scott sits as a silent sentinel. It’s then she see Charles’ expression and something curls in her stomach. “Oh, Charles. Now you pretend to have morals and a conscious?”
KURT WAGNER (616): Yellow eyes widened slightly at Exodus’ words as he started to speak Kurt’s thoughts aloud, and then Kate spoke up and he just shook his head softly. It was an… outlandish idea, but that was why he hadn’t voiced it. His eyes drifted towards Charles as the Professor took his helmet off and he couldn’t help but to bow his head in shame. “We don’t even know if resurrection will work if their reality has been completely rewritten.” His voice was quiet.
KATE PRYDE (616): She wishes she could kick Emma's perfectly groomed calf under the table. "You want to take that chance? Listen, not that I'm the expert on this or anything, but sometimes we don't come back. Do you want to take that chance with what's left of us?"
RAVEN DARKHOLME (616): “You will not touch my wife!” Her voice raises, tone lined with steel. It was nearly impossible to get Irene back the last time. Raven will not toil in the dark again, alone and cold as she’s been her entire life. She will fight tooth and nail to keep Irene safe, even if it means diverging from the Council.
CHARLES XAVIER (616): “We’re all well aware that’s a foreign concept to you, Emma,” Charles shook his head, tone resolute.
EMMA FROST (616): A smile crosses her face, cold and removed. “Oh, darling,” she all but sighs. “Words are weapons, and I would watch yours.” She knows too much about him, too much about Erik. Emma knows how and why Krakoa was formed, and with that all their dirty little secrets. “We could always begin with one and see how it goes.”
MAX EISENHARD/MAGNETO (616): "Start with one." Max almost laughed, but didn't. It was a ridiculous thing they were proposing, but it also could be their best option. "And who do we propose should be the one to die?"
SCOTT SUMMERS (616): "I think that's obvious." Scott speaks up. "We start with the one that matters most."
BENNET DU PARIS (616): "Yes. Hope. I thought that would have been an obvious choice." Exodus stood up to speak this time, leaning forward with his palms flat against the table. "And while a war against SHIELD could have been quite interesting, if we wanted to get this done quickly we could easily have someone teleport in and retrieve her." He looked to Kurt again.
EMMA FROST (616): Emma points a gloved finger at him. “As hurtful as it is to hear, I concur.” She has four other daughters to think of. She doesn’t want Esme to be the guinea pig. Let it be Cable’s little trash goblin. “We can always go to war after, I suppose.”
KATE PRYDE (616): "So we murder Hope." Kate is now slouched down against the table, her chin resting in her hand. She's drawing nonsensical lines into the flat top.  "Quite hilarious when taken literally."
RAVEN DARKHOLME (616): Raven is seething, but Kate’s words elicit a small smile. “It used to be hard to kill an Omega level mutant. Now, it’s common place. We’ve lost all the fun, I fear.”
SCOTT SUMMERS (616): "Can you do it?" Scott is now angled towards Kurt. He doesn't bother asking Kurt if he wants to. There is no room for wants.
BENNET DU PARIS (616): "No one can ever truly kill the Messiah. She will always rise again." He aimed his comment at Kate, his tone very serious.
KATE PRYDE (616): "Oh bite me, pink face."
EMMA FROST (616): There’s an audible groan at that. “Just fetch the girl and kill her already.”
MAX EISENHARDT (616): "So this is what I've been missing." Max mumbled to himself with a small shake of his head.
ORORO MUNROE (616): Ororo can barely believe what she’s hearing, but she makes no motion to stop it. The terrible feeling in her gut is confirming that they may have no other choice. She just watches with light eyes and her fingers tightly knotted together.
KURT WAGNER (616): Scheisse. They were all looking at him now.  Of course they were looking at him, it was the most logical choice, teleport to Pleasant Hill, grab Hope, or whoever she was right now, bring her back. Easy enough. This entire plan was insane, but leave it to Exodus to do whatever it took to save the Messiah. Standing up from his chair and clearing his throat, he took a deep breath and narrowed his eyes at Emma. “I’m not going to be the one to kill her, just so you all know.” That was a given, but it felt like Kurt needed to say it anyways. Taking a deep breath, he paused and closed his eyes, envisioning the green grass and friendly aura of the Connecticut town that he’d visited once before, and then bamf. Purple smoke lingered in the air for a few moments in before Kurt returned with a smaller figured blonde girl thrown over his shoulder, who was clearly losing it as she screamed and swatted at his tail in an attempt to get down. He dropped her in front of him, making sure she was steady on her feet as he held his hands out. “Well, this has gone just as poorly as I expected.”
KATE PRYDE (616): Kate contemplates. And she contemplates. Her brow knits, smooths out, knits again. If anyone is speaking, she doesn't hear it. Then, suddenly, she stands. Her long coat rustles behind her; she readjusts the leather on her shoulders. "I will not be a part of this." She glances to Emma briefly. There is no surprise in her gaze; Emma didn't earn her spot playing nicely. "You can all sit witness to the literal murder of mutantkind as if resurrection is just some factory we can toss people into and then they come out fresh and new on the other side. I won't. I absolutely fucking refuse." And in a sweep of red, Kate is gone.
EMMA FROST (616): “Quiet.” The word rings out both verbally and telepathically. The eyes of the flailing blonde briefly flash white before she falls limp in Kurt’s arms. Kate leaves then, red coat billowing behind her. She and Emma will always be fundamentally different in some ways. Emma will do what it takes. This is not a childs game and she intends on always being one of the deadliest players. Her gaze falls on Exodus. “She’s your Messiah, isn’t she?”
SCOTT SUMMERS (616): "Someone should alert the rest of the Five." He directs his attention to Ororo. She is both complacent and uncomfortable, neither make for quick action. "Sorry Kurt. Can you go?"
KURT WAGNER (616): Kurt sighed softly as Emma telepathically calmed Not Hope down, his arms holding her up so she didn’t fall onto the ground before he slowly laid her into one of the Council chairs. This was getting to be very serious, and suddenly he was realizing the gravity of what they were about to do. The fundamental law of Krakoa that they were breaking. It made him sick to his stomach, but thankfully Scott caught his attention and he quickly nodded as he exited the chamber, heading towards Arbor Magna.
BENNET DU PARIS (616): Bennet nodded. "Yes. I should be the one to end this life of hers. So that she can be reborn again. It is a great honor." He walked over to the unrecognizable Hope that Kurt had brought back with him, and gently took her face in both of his hands. "This will not hurt, I promise you. We will see you again soon, Messiah." Hope hated when he called her that, and he knew it. But it felt fitting for the moment. After a moment he took in a breath and then telekinetically snapped her neck. It was over in an instant, and when she went limp he gently lowered her body to the ground.
SCOTT SUMMERS (616): They were really doing this. Scott stands on surprisingly stable legs and meets Bennet on the adjacent side. Under any other circumstances, he would be quipping right now (he most certainly would not). "Do you mind." he shifts to nudge Bennet out of the way and gently picks the body up from behind the shoulders and the back of the knees. They have a place to dispose of them; he'll meet the rest of them after.
EMMA FROST (616): Harm no man. That’s the law, isn’t it? Harm no man, and yet, they have. They had killed one of their own in the chambers that Hope ruled over. Emma chooses to believe that this is worth it. For the cause, for the children. She watches blankly as Scott removes the corpse from the chambers. It’s easiest to be impassive right now. It’s with the others that she rises to move towards the Arbor Magna where they will wait for the four to resurrect Hope. “Ethically, we’re all rather fucked, aren’t we?” The crassness of her language harkens back to her Bostonian beginnings. “The people won’t be happy if they ever find out.” The Hope they killed has done nothing wrong other than being a victim of S.H.I.E.L.D. Instead of fighting to save her, they’ve killed her. “The optics are absolutely dreadful.”
CHARLES XAVIER (616): Charles didn’t even have any words for the scene in front of him. Hope Summers, dead in the Council Chambers. And by the hands of her own mutantkind at that. It was against everything Charles stood for and yet, he didn’t stop them. S.H.I.E.L.D. had overstepped and taken innocent mutants away from their homes. Kidnapped and brainwashed them to be complacent prisoners, and that couldn’t go unpunished. But this? He moved sullenly behind the others to the Arbor Magna as he stood behind Emma and shook his head. “No, they won’t. But it’s been done. Now, we focus on getting them back, if this works.” And God, he hoped it did.
SCOTT SUMMERS (616): "The people don't need to know." Scott responds smoothly. "Not the details, anyway. We'll figure out how to spin this." He sounds confident, sure of himself. He isn't quite sure what exists beneath the bravado, a complicated cast of emotion he doesn't extrapolate on.
ORORO MUNRO (616): They’re watching Hope bake, more or less. Her form is growing inside of the husk as the Four work frantically to resurrect. Ororo’s gaze wants to soften but remains hard. “We have done something we can never take back.” Has she already been this tired? It fees as if she has been forever.
EMMA FROST (616): There’s an indignant huff. “Because we know all about spinning things, don’t we?”
SCOTT SUMMERS (616): "We have done what is necessary." He ignores Emma, arms tight across his chest. They stand in silence for a stretch of time, watching with a tired impatience that has Scott standing completely rigid, lest he start pacing around. The four work, quietly, privately. Though they can be witnessed, they seem to form a cocoon around themselves, blocking out the rest of the world around them. And then it fades and Scott notices that the sound seems to be returning, the air seems to settle normally again. The four step aside.
HOPE SUMMERS (616): At first, there is darkness. It is nothingness; it is just floating in a void. She has no name or sense of being. She just is -- and she isn’t. There’s a moment when consciousness kicks in and her body stretches outwards. It causes her to reach out until her hands finds something hard. Pushing against it, she break into the air as her chest constricts so lungfuls of oxygen can be inhaled. She crawls then out with the orange clumped to her skin, bare and fresh. Green eyes fall on the group that stands above her, mind blank and unknowing.
CHARLES XAVIER (616): Charles steps forward then, this process that once brought him a sense of fulfilment now tainted with a pit in his stomach as he reaches forward and places a gloved hand underneath her chin, and then onto her forehead as he presses his lips into a sad smile. It didn’t take more than a few seconds to telepathically link the husk to the last scan of Hope’s from before Pleasant Hill, and then Charles lowered his hand. “Welcome back, Hope.”
BENNET DU PARIS (616): "She has risen!" Bennet announced, arms raised high into the air.
SCOTT SUMMERS (616): Scott shrugs out of his coat and approaches from the side, slinging it over Hope's body to give her some much needed cover. He's looking at Bennet as he does this, as Bennet shouts some stupid fucking line that makes him consider sending a little plasma beam at him. "Let's give her a second to adjust before you blow her hearing, yeah?"
HOPE SUMMERS (616): It all comes back at once. She’s Hope Summers: Omega level mutant and member of the Five. She servers on the Quiet Council of Krakoa and was once believed to be the mutant Messiah. Some still believe she’s one, if Exodus is any indication. “I’m fine.” Hope pulls the jacket around her tighter. It’s thankfully big enough to cover everything, and she climbs to her feet. “What the hell happened?”
SCOTT SUMMERS (616): "S.H.I.E.L.D. happened. How much do you remember?"
HOPE SUMMERS (616): Her mind is wracked to no avail. “Uh -- nothing. I was in the Arbor Magna with the Five. Why? How outdated is my last back-up?” Something bad has to have happened. Eva moves to hug her, and Hope squeezes her friend back before turning furrowed brows to her colleagues on the Council.
SCOTT SUMMERS (616): Scott takes a measured breath. Most of the council still stands around them -- only Kate has gone and not returned. He explains, in short detail, S.H.I.E.L.D.’s project. The mutants still trapped inside. At the end, he considers how honest he should be. He ends up telling her their plan to resurrect them all. "Any questions?"
HOPE SUMMERS (616): “You guys are fucking insane.” She scoffs. “But this is war. They declared war. If this is what being on the defensive means, then we don’t have a choice. I want to make a motion to the Council.”
CHARLES XAVIER (616): “A motion?” Charles inquired.
HOPE SUMMERS (616): “A motion that we consider this an act of war. We shouldn’t have to play defense. If my dad taught me anything, it’s that offense counts. We need to push back.”
SCOTT SUMMERS (616): Scott looks over in Emma's direction and mouths: her dad?
EMMA FROST (616): Your son, you insufferable fool.
SCOTT SUMMERS (616): He rolls his eyes and gives her the subtle finger.
KURT WAGNER (616): Kurt straightened behind everyone, guilt weighing on his chest as he stared at Hope while she officially declared war. He had been the one to suggest this violence in the first place. Maybe not outright, but the sins were committed regardless. He decided to move past the war comment, deciding that there was other important matters to bring up before they pushed for something so drastic. “We can’t handle bringing everyone back to Krakoa at once. The town is too guarded. If we are to do this, we should bring Jean and Destiny back first and send a team in to get the others separately.”
RAVEN DARKHOLME (616): “You’re not touching my wife.” It’s with a heavy heart that Raven will deal with it alone. She’ll apologize to Irene when she’s back in her arms. Glancing to her son, Raven watches her fellow blue skinned mutant warily. “I agree with Hope. We reclaim our mutants, we return them to their senses and then we strike back.”
ORORO MUNRO (616): “I agree with Hope’s motion.” Ororo finds her voice. People may think her a pacifist, but she’s not. She’s worn the skin of a vengeful goddess more often than not as of late. “We will do as we must.”
SCOTT SUMMERS (616): "You don't get to make that call." Scott is back to his rigidity. "Get them. Bring them here. We'll do it here." He's talking to Kurt again. As soon as he's gone, Scott shifts his gaze to Exodus.
BENNET DU PARIS (616): Exodus gave Scott a nod, teleported himself next to Raven. She fought him, but once he was able to get a grip on her he teleported them both away. It just needed to be done.
SCOTT SUMMERS (616): The cave is quiet, like it's holding its breath. In a sudden pop of sound, Kurt unceremoniously drops two women onto the cave floor. They're scrambling, immediately kicking up dirt and dust as they panic crawl towards the wall. Away from the cluster of them. In a moment they both seize and fall quiet, subdued. They're really doing this, Scott thinks again. He's really going to do this. He approaches Jean, she's look up at him,  glassy eyed and quiet. He moves with no haste; carefully lowers himself into a crouch. He does not recognize this face, this body, but he still runs his fingers through her hair to the back of her neck and pauses. In the next moment, there is a resounding crack of bone breaking and the body slumps to the floor.
EMMA FROST (616): Emma steels her jaw as it goes down. She does not flinch at the sound of bone cracking as Jean is executed, nor do any tears well in her eyes. All eyes then move to Erik and what used to be Irene.
KURT WAGNER (616): As Kurt phases back into the Hatchery, yellow eyes quickly scan the room for Raven, since she wanted to be the one to handle Destiny. But the other blue-skinned mutant was nowhere to be found. “Where is my mother?” He asks sternly, watching as Emma sets her gaze onto Max. “Raven, where is she?”
ORORO MUNRO (616): “She is gone, Kurt.” Ororo speaks gently. “Exodus removed her from the room. They thought she would be a... liability. She will be allowed back in when it is done.”
MAX EISENHARDT (616): Just as Scott approaches Jean, Max approaches the unfamiliar face of Irene. While he did know that this method would get them back, and it would be fast, it wasn't something that he was happy about doing. But, even though time has softened him, Magneto would always step up and do what was needed. This, unfortunately, was needed. He didn't say anything to Irene, even though part of him wanted to apologize. He simply mirrored Scott, and quickly snapped her neck. After lowering her body to the floor, he stood up and looked around the room. "It's done. Let's move on."
JEAN GREY (616): She’s been resurrected before. Jean knows how it goes, and yet, it still feels unfamiliar as she slides from the husk and into herself. Once her memory is intact once more, Jean wraps her arms around herself to cover her body.  “I had a nightmare like this once.”
KURT WAGNER (616): “Gone?” Kurt repeats the word, blue brows furrowing as be just shakes her head at that. “No, that… This is wrong. She needs to be here for this. After everything the two of them have been through, she..” Trailing off, he just grimaced as Max stepped forwards towards the Pleasant Hill resident that was formerly Irene. He’d wanted to step out before it was done, but his feet wouldn’t move from their spot on the floor as he just stared blankly at the floor, jaw clenching. Even if he wanted to leave and go find his mother, Irene was being resurrected. Someone needed to be there for her.
HOPE SUMMERS (616): She’s impatient now that Jean and Irene are back. “Can we take a vote now?” Hope asks. When the others agree the voting commences. It’s six yes, three no and three abstained. The motion passes. To war they’ll go.

x-men comic finished the vault arc synch/laura and darwin went through
darwin's suffering sucked, but wow his evolution was clever.
dissapointed they didn't go god mode with him, and let him go through all that shit int he first place.
Yeah, their continued refusal to categorize Darwin and Synch as omegas is glaring and not cute. Like, bullshit is bullshit. But I do agree that at least Armando's glow-up seems particularly plot relevant....can't help but think his dataform is going to be key to defeating Nimrod, Karima and/or the Phalanx.
I have no strong feelings about Synchverine as a pairing, though I kinda hate it just on the basis of the shit being flung at Ev by racist Laura stans....its like umm you guys are fine shipping her with HELLION but Everett Thomas, you object to? Okay, that's a Choice, alright. (And I say that as someone who LIKES Julian, lmfao, but like. Let's be fucking real here, can we?)
Personally I've always shipped Ev with Monet and I'm always gonna be annoyed the two of them haven't gotten a single scene together since his resurrection, but oh well. And idk if you're familiar with her, but given Ev's age because of the Vault, alternatively if older Laura doesn't stick around (we know this X-office isn't a fan of duplicates so part of my wariness about this ship is I feel like its headed for Angstville in a way that won't do either character any favors), I would loooooove for them to bring back Gaia. She was a reality warping mutant from Gen-X that had a will they/won't they pseudo relationship with Ev back in the day....
Ironically, the reason they never got together was because Gaia left to travel the world because due to comic book typical Shenanigans, she was several centuries old and yet had barely any life experience....and hmmm, who is now also several centuries old and yet limited to a very narrow parameter of life experiences? I'm just saying. HERE'S HOW GAIA/EVERETT CAN STILL WIN!!!
But yeah, I'm kinda tired of the whole Vault thing because it continues to be just a wasted opportunity that they seem to have no interest in using to its fullest narrative potential and just keep coming back to anyway, and its not exactly making any characters look good. Was not a fan of Forge's storyline here, though at least he didn't go full Hank McCoy with Caliban and pulled back before he crossed too many moral thresholds there. I did like Caliban's dynamic with Serafina though, and I'm a big fan of Forge's vision for a future Krakoa.....like.....one of the weakest aspects of Krakoa as a paradigm has been the lazy efforts at nation-building, there's no real infrastructure to it, and I'm not really talking physical infrastructure so much as social, but making Krakoa look more along the lines of what Forge is picturing could go a long way towards breaking writers out of the rut they seem to be in with seeing it as fully formed as-is, when its like.....really, really, not.
Tumblr media
But also I just love Cassara's art and worldbuilding so I'm just kinda like....any chance for him to do backgrounds is a Yes Please from me. I think he and Reis have done the best renditions of Krakoa to date, and with Caselli coming over from X-Men Red to do the tie-in Brood storyline issues when the book crosses over with Captain Marvel in a couple months, I would looooooove it if Cassara goes over to X-Men Red for a couple issues too. I wanna see his take on Arakko.
Anyway - the BS with Darwin and Synch remains my biggest pet peeve, tbh. The omega list is waaaaay too white, and there are so many options for omega characters of color. The two of them, Laura Dean aka Pathway from Alpha Flight, Willie Evans Jr., Joseph Calhoun, etc, etc. And with several Great Ring seats up for grabs on Arakko, they're introducing more omegas there, which is good because I don't think there should be any more Krakoans on the Great Ring, Ororo and Roberto are enough as is. But one of the new Arakkii omegas is the old white guy with a beard from the Sins of Sinister promo, his name is Jon Ironfire I think and that's just his design from Year 1000, when we meet him in the present X-Men Red he'll of course be much younger. Still, the point is, they keep making new white omega mutants when......seriously. There are so many characters of color they could be upgrading instead.

Superhero Valentine’s Double  Poll Winner Wedding Spectacular Part 2 of 2: Rogue and Gambit (X-Men Gold #30 and Mr. and Mrs. X #1)
Tumblr media
Hello all you happy true believers! I’m jake I review stuff and welcome one and all to the second part of  my two part valentine’s wedding special. no need to see the first part mind you, these reviews are mostly standalone but both were selected by YOU fine folks via patreon poll and thanks ot a deadlock I coudln’t resolve due to voting myself, both get the spotlight.
Last time I took a look at that time Aunt May almost married Doc Ock so he could steal the nuclear reactor Aunt May inherethed which went as well as could be expected of a wedding involving a younger man trying to swindle a vunerable old woman out of her money
Tumblr media
Sadly our second winner dosen’t end in the shadow of a mushroom cloud but it is incredibly intresting and still involves children of the Atom at least. As i’ve said a few times on this blog I freaking love the x-men. Out of marvels’ MANY families of teams and characters, their my faviorite with tons of books having come out of the big M and the current Krakoa era being one of their finest.  I even tried retrospectivising one of my faviorite runs at one point but stopped both due to having too many other projects and a lack of intrest. Won’t stop me from trying again with another x-book at some point. So i’m pleased as punch to be back in the House of X and really delighed so many of you choose this one.
So before we get into the issues themselves we need to talk both about our lovebirds and about this era of X-Men.
Rouge and Gambit have an up and down and down and up and sideways romantic history, which i’ve mostly had to research since the two’s constant will they or won’t they lines up with a lot of the gaps in my vast and redciulous knowledge of Marvel’s Merry Mutants: The 90′s Comics, X-Treme X-Men, X-Men Legacy (The last one i’m waiting to get a re-release at some point since Mike Carey’s run leading into it, which I have read, is really good).
It’s a decades/years long tale of a sassy but sad inside southren belle who can’t touch people but can’ punch them through walls and a devil may care Cajun who accidently oopside daisy caused a genocide and can make things blow up real good, and the MANY MANY MANY things that came between them: From Rogue’s power, to Rogue finding out abotu the oopsy daisy genocide and leaving Gambit to die, to Rogue’s mom trying to seduce gambit to drive a wedge between them, to Rogue deciding to go with Magneto instead... which let’s be fair even if both are very sexy men.. I would too. Magneto is king of the mutants and the DILFS and I won’t take any objections to that.
Point is their history is a lot, to the point writers just stopped bothering with it and shipped the two with other people for a while, Gambit flirting with Polaris and sleeping with his employers wife (He didn’t KNOW she was married to his credit), and Rogue dating Deadpool and Johnny Storm, aka winning out of the two. In fact had it not been for one mini series shortly before this, this wedding would not have worked.
Said mini was Rogue and Gambit, a mini from the same era as today’s issues being reviewed where the two were sent undercover by Kitty Pryde to investigate a resort.. and since said resort used couples baggage as part of a nefarious plot, the two were forced to hash things out. THe result.. was immensely enjoyable to read, as the two adressed their long standing issues, while writer Kelly Thompson did a good job outlining the various “greatest hits’ of their realtionship for those like me who were less familiar making it accesable.  As a result by the end the two were back together, willing to give it one more shot and Rogue fully accepting her boyfriend had cats. Also Gambit has cats. As does the funko pop of him I have from All-New X-Factor. And yes they are adorable.
So the two were in a good place. The same could not be said for X-Men comics at the time, which while not at i’ts lowest eb, that was the era before this, were still feeling woozy over here. The slow decline and attempted burial of the x-men is a time that still stings for the x-men: After AvX the books slowly dropped in quality owing to half baked creative decisions, letting known fuckup Brian Michael Bendis at the start of his rot as a creator run things, and not having a clear direction after the wonderful schism era. Things only got worse as Ike Perlmutter, aka the guy who nearly killed the MCU and drove edgar wright away from it with pure incomptence and arrogance, flexed what muscle he had and thus Marvel was forced to bury the x-men and the fantastic four , the x-men getting reduced to a small line with a terrible status quo about an inhuman cloud plauge killing them no one liked, and the ff scattered. All because they didn’t own the movie rights and he didn’t want to make more ips. Instead of you know focusing on making actual comics. It was a dark time.
So a relaunch giving the X-Men a bigger spot in the marvel universe and taking the excinction angle away SEEMED like what we’d waited for... the x-men put in central park, given a major role and two teams: gold starring a bunch of fan faviorites and blue starring the o5 x-men, timedisplaced versions of the inagural x-men who’d changed a lot. And while it had excellent titles like X-Men Blue, X-Men Red, Iceman and Rogue and Gambit/Mr and Mrs X, for the most part the overwhelming response was rightfully
Tumblr media
Most of the titles were forgetable disposable books that no one really cared about. And most disposable of all.. was the flagship book X-Men Gold. The premise, putting Kitty Pryde in charge of xavier’s school, was brilliant. But in practice it was just one long rehash of storylines told better: attempts to get rid of mutants via the goverment (and rather stupidly and hamfistedly with a deportation bill which dosen’t work for a number of reasons), sentinels that weren’t all that diffrent from before, and more. While Blue was throwing out fresh intresting ideas.. Gold was just giving us reheated leftovers with maybe one good arc. j
And the most reheated thing of all.. was Kitty Pryde and Colossus. Kitty and Pitor have had a likewise up and down back and to the left relationship, starting with the fact that when they first dated.. she was 14 and he was 19. I think I can best sum up my feelings on that with the following image
Tumblr media
For the MOST PART it was just kitty hitting on peter and him being flustered but.. then you get this scene...
Tumblr media
And it’s clear Claremont is treating this like any other romance and simply using the age diffrence.. as drama fuel instead of you know A REASON TO STOP.  He also had them MARRIED in Days of Future Past so you know....
Tumblr media
Thankfully EIC Jim Shooter had the same reaction and demanded Chris Stop this, the rare time when editorial mandates saved a story. Granted being jim shooter he took it the extra step of writing a love intrest who conviently died in for Colossus during secret wars to facilitate said breakup, but still point is they broke up, we got Colosus Vs Juggernaut out of it and Wolverine was kinda creepy in how he treated things. All was well.
The issue was after this it was portrayed as a straight up romance by most writers not realizing Kitty was underage, with Warren Ellis having Colossus come back as a vengeful ex.. then again this is the same serial sexual harasser who had kitty date a copy of himself so why am I suprised by this.
Things really didn’t pick up again though until Colosus came back from the dead. X-Men: Even before we conquered death.. we’d basically still conquered death. The two emotoinally reunited under Joss Whedon.... because apparently serial creeps I once had the utomost respect for really liked the relationship between a grown man and a teenager.
Tumblr media
So the two were back together though since now both were adults, it was no longer creepy and life moved on... but this being x-men life moving on only lasted as long as the delays for astonshing x-men did and kitty soon found herself wedged inside a giant bullet in space. She came back, OF COURSE, and shortly after becoming solid.. they broke up because he became the juggernaut bitch. I’ts a much longer story i’ll cover some day as i’ts part of Kireon Gillien’s triumphantly awesome run on x-men, with a second thankfully coming next month, but point is they were broken up and his actions during AVX while possed by the phoneix further drove the wedge between them.
So time passed and both.. just moved on much like our other couple. Peter dated Domino in a relationship I REALLY, REALLY liked as they had a nice contrast to one another but with real chemstiry and Kitty dated Bobby (his last relationship before coming out, something his solo series dealt with), and then of all people Star Lord because Bendis liked having her date peters for some reason. Point is by Gold BOTH had well moved on even if Kitty was single.
Now I have a point for all of this... Kitty and Peter broke up but like Rogue and Gambit you COULD get them back together with enough effort. As you can probably tell by the fact the two aren’t married and Gambit stole their wedding, X-Men Gold writer Mark Guggenhiem put in exactly none. Like all but one arc of his run it felt like a greatest hits album as done by a cover band. Pitor wanted to get back together because shut up, Kitty didn’t because their relationship had been a mess for a while and they hadn’t done anything to reconclile, they got back together anyway.. and then DECIDED TO GET MARRIED.
Fans naturally revolted. And usually when marvel hears us revolt over a decision their initial reaction is I’M NOT LISTENING LALALALLALALALALALALALA.  But for once, they geninely listened, and quickly scrambled to stop this trainwreck in time. The result is the issues i’m about to review, a glorious swerve that thankfully upended one of the worst decisions in X history into one of i’ts best and one of the best superhero wedding’s i’ve seen. So come with me under the cut, we’ve got a wedding to steal.
Tumblr media
X-Men Gold #30
The cover is beautifully drawn but... weird. Mostly because of WHO the artist decided to park in the foreground, especially our front row. The only ones in the front row six who make sense ot me are Illanya, Peter’s beloved sister and Kitty’s best friend she recently fully reconcliled with, Storm, the “happy” couple’s surrogate sister, and Rogue and Gambit, as a sneaky hint for the real ending since objectively the two really aren’t that close with either of the happy couple, with Rogue at most having dated Pitor breifly.
But also up front we have Gamora and KITTY’S EX PETER QUILL whose apparently side eyeing her despite being with Gamora at the time? The hell? He was fully over Kitty. What. We also have Hank who was close to them once but at this point was not anyone’s faviorite x-man after various shady shenanigans: bringing the o5 to the present and trying to sell the team out to the inhumans just before this run being chief among them. And that god complex sadly would only grow as of late. “Sigh” I miss my blue boy.
Also Doops up there which I get as a spacing thing but is just kinda weird as he’s another one of their exes just.. right in front row. Well okay he treid to be one. But still. It’s even weirder because Bobby, one of Kitty’s closest friends if yet ANOTHER ex but one she’s on good terms with, Warrren who was on a team with PItor for quite some time, and Rachel, another one of Kitty’s closest friends, are are alll in the middle and her excalibur teamates in Britan and Meggan are shoved closer to the back with the O5. It’s just.. weird is what i’m saying. Most of the guest list makes some sense but it’s all in this jumbled order just to get them into one group shot. Also Ben Grimm is there but he and Kitty were on the guardians for a while and I actually like the idea of the two being friends. Not because their both jewish, that’s stupid sharing a relegion dosen’ tmagically make you closer, but because the two just seem like they’d be fun pals. Their both scrappy, they have a signfigant age gap she can tease him about, and let’s face it, her surrogate dad is also an older man who smokes cigars and drinks a lot of beer and likes to punch people. Why WOULDN’T she and ben get along.
So we open with a recreation of their breakup from Uncanny X-Men 183, focusing on the line “Poetry.. from a man who said he didn’t have the words to express what was in his heart and soul”. The Dialouge’s the same too. My issue with this.. is we then cut to the same hill, now overlooking their wedding, set up for tommorow with Pitor talking about how insane his life is: travels to space, other dimensions.. “all dwarfed by the miracle of meeting you” A GENINELY heartfelt and romantic line which gets a call back to that statment “Poetry.. from a man who didn’t say he had the words”. My issue here is more we REALLY didn’t need the flashback. It makes it feel very GET IT GET IT instead of just using framing and that call back to tell the reader it’s that call back and simply letting longtime fans get it and fans who hadn’t read the issue enjoy the moment anyway. It’s a problem with guggenhiem’s run: while he’s usually not so on the nose he constnatly trots out important past stuff just to try and drum up feelings instead of making them his own. And as shown from this exchange he had the capablility. Kurt and Rachel’s relationship while far from perfect also shows he had valid romantic ideas.. he just couldn’t execute them. So the two head down to Harry’s Hideaway, one of my faviorite x-locations. It’s a local pub and thanks to being close to the mansion and Harry himself being a very nice gentelman, it was a frequent hangout of our heroes with Harry not giving one iota of a shit they were mutatns as a decent person should. We also get some really fun character interactions that make me wonder where THIS Mark Guggenhiem was the entire series. If he coudl do this why didn’t he the whole damn series?
Tumblr media
We also see Remy and Rogue for a second with the procedings having marrige on the cajun’s mind. Rogue brushes it off as more thinking about the honeymoon. Look Anne Marie it’s gambit.. his mind is 50% sex 30% stealing and taking things and 20% loving you. The man can still multitask.
Lockheed’s also back.. apparently he was gone.
Tumblr media
But he does bring some guests i and apparently the current x-stable forgot about: his family. Yes LOCKHEED HAS A FAMILY. And it’s freaking adorable. Steve Orlando if your listening.. please bring them back.
Tumblr media
So after that Illyana takes Kitty out for a private drink. Sadly i’ts not a “I love you marry me instead” as shippers would hope, or anything given Shippers are STILL waiting for SOMETHIGN after Kitty came out as bi given the amount of subtext between the two.. and my bi ass is still waiting for someone to explore that, again steve.. please?, but instead is trying NOT to tell Kitty this is a bad idea. Which it is. Kitty being Kitty dosen’t let it sit and wants to know what’s up with her best friend not being excited about this marriage. So we get this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay the reasoning.. is flawed. I get what they were trying to say, as it’s what a lot of fans myself included were saying. It’s what I said a few paragraphs ago: the two hadn’t really put in any work to rebuild the relationship after going through a LOT of stuff: Kitty tutored time displaced versions of her older friends, nearly married a space man, lead the guardians of the freaking galaxy, dated a closeted gay man, got brood implanted in her, and left and rejoined the school, not to mention came back from space to find mutantkind ravaged by a horrifying plauge.. AGAIN. And Pitor was the Juggernaut, found out his sister was the reason he WAS the juggernaut, became an x-force, dated domino, came back to the x-men and had to win his friends back for some reason despite being possed because that era equated possesion with the person doing this of their own accord, and I don’t have a last one. They’ve both been through a lot and when they did get together last time.. it was because he just came back and the emotions of that. And they never truly adressed the reason they broke up last time either, Pitor having a savior complex. There’s a lot of baggage and time passed and no attempts to actually deal with any of that, just two people desperate to feel something and are fast fowarding to marriage in the hopes that’ll make them happy.
Instead it’s “ehhhh you shouldn’t be together because it shoudl’ve happened by now”. For one, bold of Yana to be the one to say this when she was part of why they broke up: Kitty didn’t trust her after coming back, and was tired of Peter’s self sacrifical nature, and him combinging BOTH by becoming Juggernaut in Illyana’s stead caused Kitty to leave him. And guess who planned for him to do that out of love as part of some messed up attempt to make him not care about her any more? I’ll give you a hint: she has a giant sword and is also bisexual as fuck but no one’s done anything with it. So yeah maybe don’t bring up problems you helped cause.
More importantly Kitty’s right. It usually went off for good reasons: she was underage and he coudln’t have a full relationship with her as an adult when she wasn’t one, she moved on , he became a super villian, he died, she moved on again, she merged with a giant space bullet, she broke up with him for vallid reasons he has , again not yet actually dealt with. As of this writing he hasn’t dealt with his deep abdiing guilt complex. Being on and off isn’t the problem, her being way too young and claremont way too stupid, and various writers dramatically ripping them apart has and again while Gambit and Rogue went through the same they took actual steps to deal with it. Kitty hasn’t. It fees like Gug didn’t realize WHY people wanted these two to break up and thus had to make up a reason when the fans had been YELLING the reasons at him for over a year at this point. This is no one likes this run: while I get placeholding for Jonathan Hickman is a rough gig, the other person doing this, Cullen Bunn actually TRIED. He still wrote stories and character arcs and had actual plans. Guggenhiem just wanted to relive his childhood and did so poorly.
So the next day Nightcrawler helps Pete with his bowtie and reveals he’s going to ask Rachel to marry him after the wedding. Which would be geninely romantic.. if A) they hadn’t started dating during this run during a time period of months and B) if she wasn’t written off after this and the two had interacted at all since this era.
We do get some heartwarming moments that can’t help but make me tear up slightly. First we have Kitty and whose helping her get ready: Her mom, Stevie Hunter, her secondary surrogate big sister who was brought back for this run in one of the handful of good ideas mark had, and Storm... as Kitty puts it..
Tumblr media
It’s incredibly touching even if the wedding it’s for is about not to happen. Speaking of which Logan whose not there because his status at the time was “Continuity Clusterfuck” does at least watch the procession
Tumblr media
Which is also what I say anytime one of my ships becomes canon so I can relate.
At the venue, Storm makes the weather purdy, awww and 05 Jean and Scott talk about how fucking weird their lives are
Tumblr media
I.. really miss these versions of the characters and I really regret it took TWO runs to get them right and by the time they did Marvel still got rid of them. I mean it streamlined things for Hickman so I get why they did it but I can still miss them and wish they got to krakoa. We also get a nice moment with the actual happy couple.
Tumblr media
Then the wedding happens, complete with  Rabi who gives a beauitful speech i’m speeding through because while nice.. it’s not while we’re here. It does make me think the ending changed at the last second. My best guess is Thompson was already tapped for a full ongoing to replace Rogue and Gambit and editor jordan white, realizing they had a mess and an opportunity talked to Thompson and Guggenhiem. and with Gugg almost out the door he really had no reason to argue, Thomspon probably said Eff Yess and here we are. Hence why the issue is mostly written as them going through with it.. till this happens
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I trimmed it down for fair use, but you get the gist. Everyone is sad at the reception, while outside it Pitor and Kitty have a heart to heart. The Phasing was just a rush reaction but Kitty really can’t marry him. As for why i’ts more “Blah blah blah I don’t know why but we can’t because the writer dosen’t get whyt his is stupid. “ I covered this well enough before, this scene is more of the same.  Also Illyana feels guilty since this is her fault. This isn’t why your all here.. no.. what’s next is and we get a GENUIELY awesome, romantic and heartfelt scnee. Observe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The art here is impecable, has been all issue but here especially having Rogue haszy in the foreground.. and then slowly come into view as Gambit leaves it, as his vision is clear: not on himself.. but on her.. and their future.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s a truly beauitful moment, Remy realizing why wait after all this time, Anna Marie going with it and thier friends turning the worst moment of their lives into one of the best. And it made me cheer.. and as I said I hadn’t really followed their relationship. I didn’t really care about them as a couple and hadn’t read their recent mini, I did AFTER this for context. But before it it was still geninely a charming swerve and after.. it’s so fucking beautiful. Two people who have had a lifetime of strife and realized they can’t be without one another.. finally making it offical. ANd it fits both: Rogue’s life is a massive series of unexpected: from comaing her boyfriend to working with her gay moms most hated enemy to loosing her powers, gaining them again, gaining a diffrent set, and to making out with both magneto and deadpool in the span of a few years in and out of universe, having her boyfriend propose and use someone else’s wedding fits. And as for Remy, being a charming rogue with a flair for the dramatic, STEALING a wedding, proposing in front of all their friends despite immense risk of rejection and without a hint of using it to pressure her or make her feel bad, and doing so for all the best reasons.. it’s truly charming. Please don’t undo it marvel we’re begging you.
So with that we get our vows and if my heart hadn’t melted enough...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So they kiss, and thus the two are a couple! But there was a bit more to it than that. So as an added bonus i’ll also be covering part of the insuing series the two shared, Mr and Mrs X’s first issue. Not the whole thing as it dovetails into the first arc of the series, but since the issue covers both the two getting read with their respective bridal and groomal parties and the reception, it only felt fit to include it. Soooo
Tumblr media
(Most Of) Mr and Mrs X #1
So we open with another beauitufl bit of romance talking about space, stars colliding it’s good stuff but i’ve skirted fair use enough for once day. Let’s get to the meat of it. A few hours before the wedding Gambit is getting ready with his Groomal Party which consisits of Storm, Wolverine (Laura Kinney), Scout, and of all people Gambit. For those less familiar with Remy in comics there’s a valid reason for each one: Storms one of his closest friends, the two having met when Storm was magically turned into a child, and Storm getting back to the X-men lead to him joining his friend on the team. How she got that way: Siege Perlous it’s a long story. How she got back to normal?
Tumblr media
As for the rest, Laura is also one of Gambit’s closest friend. While I haven’t read the solo series their close in he also popped up in All New Wolverine and the friendship has held fast sense, Scout is laura’s clone/little sister, and he’s likelywise protective of her and Gambit.. apparently they became friends after Gambit accused him of murder when he first showed up? I dunno man the X-Men are weird and even I don’t know how the hell everything stacks up. Still makes more sense than Kitty giving her ex-fiance front row tickets at least. Bling, a former student of gambits also shows up to make the rings. Oh sorry I spelt that wrong Bling! shows up to make the rings. Laura also asks if Gambit would like a calming stabbing while the fact this team talks stabbing at all tells Bishop he choose wisely.
Meanwhile Rogue and Illayna are looking for some old tech to use, with Rogue needing it both to do the kiss.. and for tonight. illayna nearly wretches but Rogue points out she ASKED. She can’’t unask. Plus what did she think was going to happen tonight if not some sexy times.
Meanwhile Rogue’s team is madeup of Psylock(Betsy Braddock) , Jean, Pixie, Yana, Bobby and Nightcrawler. Psylocke and Rogue have known each other a long time and been on MULTIPLE teams together, including their longest stints with the x-men, Jean was around during the 90′s and while not on the same team still saw Rouge often as they lived in the same place, PIxie and Yana.. I dunno, and as for our two men in the group... well they explain it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also Rogue you’ve been an x-man long enough to know that all of you having to storm a castle is not just likely it’s probable. Though weirdly enough despite how chaotic the rest of their lives is X-Men weddings are a real coin flip: Sometimes nothing goes wrong and the most you get is emotional upheavel like today or nothing at all like Jean and Scott’s weddings.. and sometimes Havok breaks up with his girlfriend at the altar for someone else and she has a mental breakdown over him cheating on her and you know, dumping him at the altar. You just can’t tell ahead of time.
Jubilee is also really fucking adorable here as she’s acting a lot like her much younger self as she excitedly tries to get Rogue something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. The old is touching, Betsy giving her the antique earrings she’s wearing (Since as Jubes points out borrowing is a diffrent thing), Jean freshly picks from flowers for new and Illanya brings Kitty’s veil in for borrowed. That just leaves something blue.. and while as Kurt pouts later he could be something blue.. someone else steps in for it.
Tumblr media
The bridal party give them a minute. Turns out Misty was there as Abigail brand as she wasn’t going to miss the mutant wedding of the year. I mean her minon melted the would’ve been groom once, there’s history there. She didn’t even bring a plus one... mostly because the urn filled with what of Destiny’s ashes spilled on her in her awesome after death prank would’ve been a dead giveaway.
But i’ts an excellent scene with the two: Rogue is rightfully supscious, especially since as I said Mystique once tried to seduce him while pretending to be a teenager just to break them up, so it’s not like she HASN’T done evil schemes to meddle in her daughter’s life. But Raven has grown: she just wants to be there for this, and for her daughter. No evil schemes or attempted simulated statutory. Just watcing from a distance sincce, you know not many people would be happy having Mystique there. If you think Kitty, Peter, Rogue and Gambit’s previous romantic entaglements are complicated, try the mother of one of the brides.
So we find out at the altar the thing Rogue was getting was a power dampener. Hurts like hell but she wanted a kiss at her own wedding.. and the honeymoon. And so their married.. again and we get the reception. Gambit has already called in favors for the honeymoon and despite Jubilee’s justified worries he’s just going to visit new orleans again, he’s a romantic. And i’m with him, i’ts a shame they don’t realize that. Rogue meanwhile is on a shit ton of painkillers with Beast mocking her for asking why there wasn’t a better version of a mutant power go bye bye machine. So the two take off and get off...
IN SPACE!
And i’m not saying the get off part to be cute.. the following dialouge implies they’ve been at it for SEVERAL HOURS. God damn. I wouldn’t expect less but god damn. Gambit does make plans to go surface side, if nothing else than to give rogue a break from the collar.. but not before she makes ANOTHER attempt to break his pelvis with round 7. After that Kitty calls them, is shocked their naked, but has a mission for them, we’re off on our other plot and that does it for this review. If you all ask nicely enough I may cover this series in full at some point it’s excellent. For now though let’s leave the happy couple to their space battle.
If your curious where they are now they’ve been happily married since, both serving on Excalibur (and thanks to Apocalypse, yes that apocalypse, Rogue can now touch people again without killing them), and now on seperate teams as Gambit has stayed on Excallibur while Rogue has joined the new team of X-Men though Remy still visits the treehouse, their new hq, plenty.. and has poker games while his wife isn’t there because it’s Remy. So a toast to the groom to the groom, to the bride to the bride and may you always be satsified. Thanks for reading.
Two more bits of buisness for those who stuck around. First if there’s an issue or arc of x-men you want me to cover join my patreon! 5 buck patreons get a review bolted to the schedule every month: no matter what other slippage may happen, this review WILL get done, as well as a seat at the table deciding what I review in my polls each month. Patreons get to pick one of the options every time so join as soon as you can to be in the room where it happens Join by next month and help me pick a sonic Uk story to celebrate sonic month, join my april to help me pick an episode of a teen superhero show to review. And if you want to vote in the currently ongoing poll to pick an early Danny PHnatom episode feel free. Links are bellow and happy valentine’s day.

Do you think Shaw would love his child if he had one by Lourdes? (Pretending the Krakoa retcon never happened.)
I pretend that EVERY DAY. What retcon? :P It's something I've thought a lot about, and my answer is an unfortunate one: Shaw is not meant to have children. I do believe he could very well love a child he had with Lourdes, and possibly be a slightly less terrible parent due to not wanting to upset her, but he's still going to be terrible in some capacity. I think Shaw will hurt a child he loves too. Because I don't think Shaw's reasons for abusing Shinobi come purely from a lack of love. Heck, I'm even willing to believe he cares about Shinobi in some weird, twisted way waaaaaaaay deep down, just a little bit. But even if he does, that's not stopping him from how he treats him. In fact, it contributes to it, in my opinion. When Shaw beats Shinobi in a canon flashback, he berates him for being spoiled and weak. He sees Shinobi as soft and unworthy to be his heir. And Shaw is someone for whom strength comes from overcoming adversity; that's what his life story is, rising up the hand he was dealt, and it's literally how his power works. I think he beat Shinobi not just out of mere anger and disgust at his perceived weakness, though that too, but also in a belief it would toughen him up, harden him into something more like Shaw himself. I don't think Shaw saw it as coming from his lack of love, but a desire to make Shinobi better, a desire to help Shinobi. Not altruistically, of course, but because he wants a "worthy" heir. To Shaw, it's time and effort he invested into trying to mold this boy into something better, and to him, that's a gift, a gift Shinobi squandered. I hope it goes without saying I don't AT ALL agree with this mindset or see this an excuse for it, Shaw's a monster. I'm just trying to explain why I think Shaw could well also do this to a child he loves, because he sees it, in my opinion, as helping (though he'll also do it just because he's pissed; as Aesop said, a tyrant will always find a reason for his tyranny) And even if he doesn't put his hands on a child physically, I think there will be a lot of mind games, a lot of trying to twist them to emulate his worldview, to be his mini-me like I think he wanted with Shinobi. As much as Shaw champions individualism and consciously would want to encourage strong-mindedness in his children, I think subconsciously he sees them as extensions of himself. He might love them. He's still going to damage them. This can be mitigated by the other parent, but not eliminated. For instance, there used to be this Storm that I wrote with, and in an AU they had a daughter named Isis. Isis pleased Shaw a lot more than Shinobi because of her intelligent and selfishness, and he didn't dare physically slap her when he wanted to because Storm would literally kill him. And he was genuinely fond of Isis. Maybe even loved her on some level, maybe. He expressed it to the best of his ability. He was nicer to her. They had wholesome moments. And he still absolutely emotionally abused her, played head games to get her to do what he wanted and behave like he prized, withheld affection, was a dick to her in general, set her against Shinobi in the typical "golden child vs scapegoat" scenario, and she was DEFINITELY going to grow up to murder him, which, good for her. Sorry, I know that's a really long answer. My answer is, yeah I think Shaw might totally love a child with Lourdes. But as long as he's in their lives, he'll still hurt them one way or another. I really wish that wasn't the case, but I think it is.

My surprisingly not-so-salty take on Marauders 25:
(spoilers under cut)
So, I was pleasantly surprised by this issue.  For one, it was largely a Kate issue rather than an Emma issue, so for once a White Queen cover lied.  (And that solicit about blood?  Nonsense.)
Also, my previous complaint about Kate not really being a leader was fixed a little in this issue, as we got to see her quickly strategize and figure out a plan using everyone’s powers.  Although the group seemed to kinda spontaneously come up with the plan together, as if Duggan wanted to give the other guys more dialogue - maybe Emma just psi-linked everyone so they were all thinking the same thing.
Basic summary:
After getting ejected from the Mercury, Iceman creates a giant ice ball and traps as much breathable air as he can.  Yay for Bobby doing something!  Pyro, getting to be not an idiot this issue, holds off on warming the group because fire will use their limited oxygen much faster.  Kate figures out how to make oxygen by shooting a high-tech weapon through water (supplied by Bobby and melted by Pyro), so they have a way to keep a breathable atmosphere for those who have to breath.  Bishop and Shaw exchange blows back and forth to charge Bishop up, then he fires a blast to propel them back towards the Mercury, while Emma telepathically plots a course and Iceman quickly fixes the hole in the ice ball before anyone dies.  Then Kate phases through the ball into the Mercury, beats up the alien dude, whose name I still don’t remember even though I just read the issue, and removes his psi-blocker so that Emma can take control of him.  The ice ball is pulled onto the ship, everyone lives.  Alien dude is dropped off back on Arakko, alive and even with his money, with a warning about what will happen next time he fucks around.
Even though it was still a Kate-centric issue, I liked this one.  Everyone got to actually do something.  Bobby was the MVP, despite not making the cast list in the beginning.  Everyone would have died in space very quickly if not for him.  And @sebastianshaw might be pleased to know that Sebastian was actually treated pretty well this issue.  He and Bishop punching each other was great, and he figured out Kate’s oxygen trick as she did it, a nice reminder that he’s actually pretty damn smart and knows his shit.  I guess Duggan decided to give Shaw some respect after spending the entire series straw-manning and taking cheap shots at him.
Pyro’s immediate jump to “whelp, may as well kill ourselves” was interesting, but like I said in a previous post, not totally out of character for him.  He’s had a casual attitude towards getting killed in some previous appearances.  And his line about “better to burn out than fade away” certainly makes sense for him, and seemed to be his general attitude while he was dying of the Legacy Virus.  In fact, I almost wanna read that as a really subtle nod to Pyro’s Legacy Death, except Duggan doesn’t usually go that deep for Pyro, and may have just wanted to drop the word “burn” in there because fire guy.  But Pyro got to be mostly serious this issue, and I’m grateful for it!  Also Lockheed was draped around his shoulders at first, and I love that.
Emma had a good part to play without stealing the show, and I enjoyed it.  I also enjoyed that she was actually in a non-sexy outfit this issue.  Nothing wrong with Emma showing it off, but she doesn’t have to be tits out all the time.  She looked great!
Also, Bishop mentioned that he’s starting a war college on Krakoa, both in the dialogue, and in an e-mail at the end of the issue.  I’m guessing this will lead into some storyline in another book (because Marauders really doesn’t have time for it in its few issue left), and I’m hopeful that means Bishop will have a big role in one of the relaunched books in 2022.
My gripes, because I always have a few:
Yet another issue showing how awesome and cool Kate is.  The central thesis of this series has been “Kate and Emma are amazing!” and this issue is no exception.  Nothing wrong with that, it’s just tiresome after so many issues, and the other characters getting pushed to the side and rarely (if ever) getting their “moments” in the spotlight.  But it was less annoying this issue, since everyone had at least something to do, and Bobby and Bishop really got to shine.
Absolutely no moral ambiguity.  Or rather, no acknowledgement of the moral ambiguity.  Kate claims she wants to kill the alien dude - of course, she doesn’t - but no one has a problem with this.  It doesn’t matter that Emma originally ripped off alien dude, or that she and Kate both withheld this info from the rest of the crew, all that matters is that Kate is a drinkin’, fightin’ badass Pirate Queen, and she kicks this guy’s ass!  Of course, to be fair, they don’t kill the alien dude, and even give him the money he was promised, so their actions are ultimately not that bad.  There’s just.....no real sense of reflection or nuance in the end.  It’s just “The Marauders rule, yay!”
Editing to add one more that I forgot - Omega level telepath Emma Frost, who was casually psi-chatting with the Stepford Cuckoos while she was on Earth and they were on Mars a few issues ago, now can’t reach anyone while the group is somewhere between Earth and Mars because it’s “too far.”  How very convenient for the plot.  I suppose I could give Duggan the benefit of the doubt by assuming that it’s easier for Emma to chat long-distance with fellow telepaths, they presumably do part of the work.  But there aren’t any telepaths on the SWORD station they just left that Emma could reach out to?  This is like that one scene where Omega level telepath Emma Frost has to flash her boobs in order to effectively mind-control like 4 human soldiers.
But honestly?  I was much less frustrated with this issue than the last one.  I’m crossing my fingers for Bobby again getting the attention he deserves next issue, (bro’s on the cover), and for Pyro to get to do something cool, but I’m prepared to be disappointed.  Fingers crossed.

In an ideal world, no one goes into the sex pollen fields unprepared. (The well meaning sorts on Krakoa have taken it upon themselves to monitor the area as best they can: 'Sex Pollen must be synonymous with Consent Pollen!') In an ideal world, no one goes to the sex pollen fields with Tess McKay without arming themselves with an array of sports drinks, lubricants, and societally discouraged contraceptives. Maybe a blanket and some wet wipes.
They're sticky with it: each other, the pollen, and the tropical electrolyte drink they spilled earlier. Woolf's hand reaches out in a convulsive spasm to grab at a handful of bright flowers. Orange and yellow and red, red like the cuts she opened in his back, yes, yes, yes yes yes--
She squeals. Tongue. Feels like his tongue is everywhere: circling her clit, slicking up inside her, skimming along the lips as he spreads her wide with elegant fingers. Her back arches like a bow, bright pink face twisted, knees tightening about his head. "Daken." An epithet. "Daken." A prayer. "Daken." A whine.
"Come on. Come on. Come on, you impotent fucking sap," and "oh, G-d, baby, you're so pretty, you're so pretty, please please please--" and then wriggling away from the suckle of his lips when it becomes too much, only to shriek when he grasps her hips and hauls her back.
Another handful of flowers ripped from the ground; she sobs, fucking against-away as the pollen mists the bright, clear sky above them.
They’ve been at it for, what, thirty minutes now? Two hours? Hard to tell in a place like this, where the world collapses into whatever they’re inhaling, the flowers carressing their bodies. The flower pods of the Bower are intimate in that they physically obstruct sight if wanted, whereas the fields -- he can see others fornicating in the distance, passionate bodies obscured by blooms, but he can’t see much farther than --
“Tess, Tess, Tess,” he whispers into her inner thigh, holding her hip to keep her close and not writhing away in the pleasure spasms.
( He was just there, gasping and keening helplessly, bare feet scrambling in the stalks and the dirt as his hands tangled into and pulled at never-ending hair, the suckle of her throat and manipulations of her hands pulling at his cock feeling forever, forever, forever... )
Pleasure from pleasure, melding, his two fingers nearly tingle when they slide into her oh-so easy, wet from her and lube and spit and an effortless glide with his lips latched onto her clit like a teat.
“You’re so fucking perfect please go on you deserve it,” he babbles, and he holds her when she convulses and screams again, body flushing pink among red and orange in a stupidly powerful chemically-enhanced orgasm. They’re ringing themselves dry, and the semi-conscious part of his brain practically screams in exhaustion when his hand slaps out to grab a sheet of Krakoan biofilm to slap on his own bobbing, red cock. “I need you always, you’ll never get away from me...”

Alt-Maraunders snippets since I hadn’t written them in awhile! Warning for violence against Haven in the first one...yes, that should be a warning in it. Also warning for a lack of Pyro and Maddie, which is CRIMINAL
“Get out of here, Ms. Dastoor,” Shaw commanded. Verendi was coming, and they would be a match for him this time, very likely. They had adjusted their weaponry, their defenses. They were very close to almost making this a fair fight. “I won’t leave you,” she said, and she might have protested further, if he hadn’t decided that he didn’t have the time for an argument. Instead he simply took one of her hands in his...and crushed it. She cried out in pain and shock as her bones were pulverized under her skin and her blood seeped out from between his fingers. “If you do not,” he said calmly as he released her, “I will break much more of you. You will be dead at my hands before you fall into theirs.” This time, she ran. He knew she would be safer for it---and, he hoped, smarter, like an animal that has stepped once into a trap and now knows to avoid them. Then again, Shaw also knew what it was to be an old dog that couldn’t seem to get the hang of new tricks. *** “Hello, Claudine,” said Haven as the other woman lifted the wreckage easily from overtop her, as though this were a mere social call. “Thank you so much for the assistance, I do appreciate it.” Claudine, standing over Haven, put her hands on her vest-accentuated waist and smirked, just a little, though not unkindly at all, and asked, “Like the view?” “I’m very pleased for the rescue, Claudine,” said Haven, taking Claudine’s offered hand as the latter knelt down to offer it. “Come on, I know you can’t be that obtuse,” Claudine said in an indulgent tone, pulling her up, “I know for a fact you’re not. You’re a lot LESS obtuse than the average person. We’ve had this discussion.” “I suppose it’s not that I do not see it,” Haven replied, getting her footing, “Only that I do not recognize it for what it is, just as I may see a flower but not be able to identify its exact taxonomy.” “What you mean is, you’re not used to a woman hitting on you, so even when you pick it up you don’t realize what it really is,” Claudine took her arm, though only to help her pick her way over the debris. “I suppose. But I think it’s because I also know it’s not sincere from you. You’re...gauging me, I think, to see what I do and don’t perceive, and what I do and don’t react to. What would be the scientific term, responding to stimulus?” “True, I know you’re not going to turn around and reciprocate, and that is probably why I do it.” “That’s interesting, Claudine. Tell me, what do you do when you do want someone to reciprocate?” “...you know, I’m still trying to work that out myself.” *** "I’m sorry, okay?!” Shinobi ejected, throwing his arms out to the sides. “Are you?” Mindmeld asked coldly, her arms crossed over her chest, neither turning to look at him nor getting up from the luxurious couch, “Or are you sorry for how I’m getting back at you now?” She didn’t get an answer, just a whimper. “Doesn’t matter,” she said, and this time she did turn to look at him, “I’m gonna keep doing it AND doing your dad.” “Aw come on,” he whined, looking like a puppy in the rain. Good. “I am,” she said, “With Sebastian.” ** “Now, now, Red...I thought all bygones were bygones now?” Sebastian mocked as the young martial artist came at him, “Everything behind us now in this beautiful mutant paradise?” “That means nothing to me!” Red Lotus continued his strikes, trying to get a hit on Shaw’s pressure points, something his kinetic absorption had not defended him from in the past, “This is about MY FAMILY!” Sebastian smiled as he caught the leaping assailant by the throat, “So nice to hear someone sees things my way.” He lifted poor Red Lotus off the ground, his feet dangling in the air, “I quite agree with you, young Paul. Species loyalty is something I only espouse under duress, myself. Safety in numbers, I understand, but in an ideal situation, a “mutant identity” should be as asinine as a community based on eye color. But family loyalty...while it also makes little logical sense to me to align oneself based on an accident of blood, it was a weakness I can...understand. But I must ask---you realize, of course, your desire for vengeance is complicated by the issue of resurrection? That’s the only reason I don’t bother killing you now---you’d be back in my hair tomorrow anyway.” “There are worse things,” Red Lotus choked out, hate filling his eyes, “Than death. Again, Sebastian smiled, "That’s the spirit.” *** The Serpent Society girls and Skein were not the only friends that Mindmeld had made on Krakoa. Another was Regan Wyngarde, Lady Mastermind. She was the best kind of friend---the kind that was terrible, just like Mindmeld herself, and understood where they stood. That is, all fun, no loyalty. Each knew other would fuck each over in a second for shoes and leave the other the second it looked like there was trouble. Mindmeld comfortable with that. It was the same reason she was more comfortable with Sebastian than his son. And speaking of his son... “Your stupid slutty boyfriend is wearing my costume!” Regan shouted in outrage. “Wow, he fits?” Mindmeld replied in her typical can’t-be-shocked-tone, “That skinny bitch.” *** “So, your sister is safe? There is no one I have to trounce in her honor?” Fabian asked. He and Monsoon had at last made it back to Krakoa after their missions. Monsoon had been incessantly concerned about the welfare of his older sister throughout, and Fabian did understand that---he was a gentleman himself, and if he’d HAD a sister WORTH defending he’d certainly have looked out for her too--though he thought at times that Monsoon should look out for him, Fabian, more. Not that LORD CORTEZ, THE SUPREME MUTANT, needed any protection, just, it was the principle of the thing! “Yes, it seems all’s well,” Monsoon replied, “I was right to be concerned, I think---two of the crew are, erm. extremely rowdy fellows, maybe not BAD, but....but...” “But Haven is a lady,” Fabian finished. “Yes. But, the third, I think he was in charge---I got that impression, anyway---he was very serious. Older. Very respectable. I’m sure Radha was fine with him there to supervise things.” “Who were these two miscreants?” “Shinobi Shaw and Pyro, St. John Allerdyce...do you know them?” “That I do! Shinobi is absolutely a danger to a woman’s virture, but Pyro ah...is not. Who do I have thank for keeping that fop in line, though?” “His father, Sebastia---what?” Fabian was staring at Monsoon in PURE HORROR . *** “Wait, Shinobi,” said Haven, “I think I had better tell your father.” “What?” said Shinobi, then considered, “Oh, yeah...yeah. He’d probably um, take it better than you.” “I’m sorry, Shinobi,” Haven said gravidly and sincerely. “What?” “Shinobi, I...I would never deliberately pry or snoop. But I...I was born with a sort of sensitivity. It’s not a mutation, I am just...attuned to others. And I...can feel when something is amiss. When someone has been hurt.” “What are you saying?” Shinobi’s thin brows furrowed. His voice was defensive, his posture aggressive. He took a step forward. “I am saying,” said Haven, calm as ever, her large dark eyes gentle, “That if there is ever something you wish to tell, but are hesitant and ashamed...don’t be. I have probably already guessed it. And I would never, could never, look down on your for it.”

OK, here are two pairings and I'm deliberately leaving it open because you I don't want to stifle you, especially if you don't like the pairings or the idea. All I'd like to please see is each gentleman knowing that they can't pull shit with her because she WILL get in that ass!! AND that's one of the many reasons they love and respect her. Pairings: Namor and Ororo AND Dr Doom and Ororo (1)
Sorry this took so long, but I am clearing my inbox and finishing prompts. Thanks for sending one in! Part 2 will be up soon!
Short fic below the cut~
Storm at Sea - Namor/Ororo
The night is darkening round me,The wild winds coldly blow; But a tyrant spell has bound meAnd I cannot, cannot go. - Emily Bronte
Ororo takes a deep breath of the salty sea air as the small ship skimmed over the surface of the black water. Her view ahead was lit only by the moon that peeked out from behind darkening grey clouds. There was a storm coming, she could feel it in the air, could taste the energy on her tongue, could feel the air grow heavy on her skin, the wind hugs her as it moves her unbound pale hair in ripples. Standing on the deck in her nightgown, she should be asleep, but the calling of the storm woke her and she took over watch as Kitty went down for some rest. Kate. She should get used to calling her that but she couldn’t, in her heart she would always be her little Kitty Pryde. Ororo wraps her shawl around her tighter as she moves to stand at the bow of the ship. Waiting for that first crack of lightening against the black sky. She could call the up to start faster but she chooses not to, wanting to see Nature’s glory without manipulation.
“A fine evening for a Storm wouldn’t you say my Lady?”
She whips around to face the voice she hadn’t heard in ages. Namor sits on the railing of the ship with one leg dangling over the edge as the ship moves across a night sea. Water glistens on his exposed skin in the moonlight. He wears black armor and a dark unfathomable expression, she shivers slightly. There were times when Ororo would come across others who held such an otherworldly quality that she wondered if they were human. Many would feel the same about her but she never felt above others, only more connected to the world. Namor was different, there were times when he acted like any other man, arrogant and self assured in his own greatness. Yet there were moments, small fleeting glimpses of something much more other. It spoke of deep water and hands that clutched you as it drags you down into the dark. She crosses her arms and turns her back on him.
“A very fine evening Lord Namor. What brings you up from your domain?”
“All of this is my domain,” He spreads a hand at the ocean, “and as for why… is a chance to spend time in your company not enough?”
Oh he was well spoken, as kings often were, she knew what it was like to be wooed by royalty, and she knew what it was like to be threatened by them too. The waves grew choppy as the wind picked up so she puts her hands on the railing of ship to steady herself and her emotions lest she unleash a tempest.
“So it is my company you desire? Why do I get the feeling that there’s something else too?”
She could feel his presence and the sound of water dripping along the deck as he moved from his position to stand behind her, he was tall, not many men were taller than her. He moves to stand next to her, and she can finally see him again out of the corner of her eye. He had a very handsome profile. His eyes search the sea as if held the answer she asked for.
“How fairs things on Utopia?”
Her face tightens, “Your must be suffering another lapse in memory my Lord, we mutants have settled on Krakoa. Utopia is dead.”
“Different name, same situation.”
“It is not, this time we have far more resources than before. We are united once more.” She counters as her knuckles turn white from clenching the railing too hard. She doesn’t want those thoughts, the ones that came to her in quiet moments; when would the calamity that seemed to plague her life since she was small once again rear it’s head? She saw the look in Polaris’s eyes once when she first came to Krakoa and recognized it because it was the same one Ororo saw in her mirror and it spoke the same fear; When? When would the hammer fall? When would the mutants die on another island while she was unable to stop it?”
“You once spoke to me about how you thought an island could be the salvation of our kind and I foolishly let your words enter my heart and paid the price.”
“I had no hand in fate, no matter what men whisper about me. I control the weather, not the future.”
“Then you should at least plan for any possibility.” Sharp words that could cut a person lesser than her but she will not be cowed.
“I don’t like your tone Namor,” her eyes flash white as she turns to face him and he to her, both looking into each other eyes, “You come here for what? To tell me that we are all doomed? Are you a harbinger of Doom? Whatever it is you may be thinking of planning, I will have you know-” The air crackles with her power, “The mutants on Krakoa are under my protection.”
He watches her and she sees the unease in his eyes. She lets the power dissipate harmlessly into the air in a show of bright light just to drive home the point that she could have shot it straight through his heart if she so wished it, and he could have done nothing to stop her. Lightening illuminates his face and she can see that the sclera of his eyes are as black as his hair, a sharp contrast to her white eyes and hair. Thunder rumbles in the distance as the boat rocks harder.
Namor raised one of his perfectly arched brows at her power display and lowers his head to face her once more, there is a moment of heavy anticipation before that old Namor came forth, the one that was a bit more human and whom she had shared conversations with in the past, “I came to say; should you ever find yourself in deep waters then rest easy knowing you have a friend who can breath beneath the waves.”
Shocked at his sudden change and pledge of friendship, she blurts the first thing that pops into her head, “I can swim just fine on my own.”
He chuckles, “I pray you accept my apology for doubting your capabilities.” He reaches out and moves a piece of her hair behind her ear, fingers lingering for an instant before drawing back. She nods, and her gaze lingers on lips a moment before she shakes herself of the strange feeling that overcame her, and the warm blush to her cheeks.
“You would be welcome in Krakoa.”
“Is that you inviting me Ms. Munroe? Or Xavier?”
“Maybe you’ll have to come to the island to find out.”
“Maybe I will.” He easily moves, small wings flutter, to land on the railing above her as the rain begins to fall. He holds out his hand, “Or maybe you will leave the world behind and find safety in the sea my Lady.”
Suddenly it was so clear why he came, the same loneliness and need to be near people who might understand that was a feeling she was well acquainted with. Still she shakes her head as the water from the sky plasters her hair to her head, and gives him a sad smile.
“I fear no storms my Lord.”
He gives her a nod of respect and silently flips his body backward off the ship and back into the sea, as if he had never been there and the only indication of his presence was the rapid beating of her heart. Ororo turns her eyes to the storm ahead.

When Jonathan Hickman was guiding the Avengers franchise, he was writing two titles that roughly played off of one another in Avengers and New Avengers, focusing on the main Avengers team and then the Illuminati offshoot. Hickman’s previous Fantastic Four and FF runs fed into some of the ideas on the titles, as well as the relatively concurrent SHIELD series fuelling some of the broader ideas.
With his open salvo into the X-Men, Hickman is doing something similar, but different, in the interplay between House of X and Powers of X. Without spoiling anything here, I can say that it’s integral to read the two series together. Though they deal with different smaller narratives, there’s a large overlap in bigger themes, characters, and at least one shared plotline. I think it’s almost best at this point to think of the two series as alternating chapters in the same book. Whether or not they converge overall in the end remains to be seen.
Like House of X #1, Powers of X #1 deals with a number of common themes and plot elements to the X-Men franchise, but gives them a different spin. It plays with some of the core ideas that we’ve seen for decades, gives them a bit of a hard science fiction sheen, and careens off in new directions. Arguably this one is weirder, but that goes into spoiler territory that I’ll discuss below. Hickman is planting some interesting seeds here and I’m curious to see how they grow.
RB Silva, Adriano Di Benedetto, and Marte Gracia step up to the challenge laid down by Pepe Larraz in House of X to provide an engrossing, beautiful visual landscape for this new era, pulling it off in spades. It’s tied together as well through the consistency of design from Clayton Cowles lettering and the text pages designed by Hickman and Tom Muller. Interesting infographics and continued use of the Krakoan language abound.
This is an intriguing next step.
As before, there will be spoilers below this image. If you do not want to be spoiled on Powers of X #1, do not read further.

SPOILER WARNING: Below I’ll be discussing the events, themes, and possibility of what’s going on in Powers of X #1 and beyond. There are HEAVY SPOILERS beyond this point. If you haven’t read the issue yet and don’t want to be spoiled, please stop reading now. You’ve been warned.

PREAMBLE | First Impressions
I was highly impressed by House of X #1.
It surpassed my hopes for what would come from a fresh new start for the X-Men and by far exceeded my expectations. Though it played with long established themes and ideas present throughout the franchise, it felt like something fresh and new, incorporating a science fiction approach to the story and pushing the characters into a new direction. Due to House of X easily delivering on its promise, expectations were raised for Powers of X #1.
I’m happy to say that they too were met. This isn’t an ancillary book featuring also-rans that supplement a “main” story in House of X, but an equally important facet of the broader narrative that this new initiative is trying to tell. It continues part of the story from House of X and then goes deeper on a tapestry across time of the plight of Marvel’s mighty mutants. If anything, House of X is the adjunct to Powers of X, rather than the other way around.
Where House of X feels consistent to Jonathan Hickman’s previous approaches to storytelling within the Marvel Universe, Powers of X seems more informed by the freewheeling, limitless imagination of his creator-owned work. I get a similar feel reading Powers of X #1 as I do from reading Transhuman, God is Dead, East of West, and Manhattan Projects. Though it’s still firmly grounded in the Marvel Universe and the X-Men mythos, it goes off in wild directions of eugenics and genocide.
RB Silva and Adrian Di Benedetto provide a similar aesthetic for the line art as Pepe Larraz in House of X, delivering a style that seems influenced by Stuart Immonen, and it continues to be a great look to define this era of the X-Men. The clean-lined style provides a kind of slickness to the art, making the cities of Nimrod and humanity feel cold, perfectly fitting an era seemingly run by machines. The designs for Nimrod, Rasputin, Black Tom, the Hunters, and the multi-headed Sentinel are wonderful.
One of the standout stars of the creative team shines again here with Marte Gracia’s colours. They’re rich and varied, changing primary colour schemes for each time period to keep things unique and visually interesting, and overall just stunning. The colour approach in the present to the flora of Krakoa is incredibly lush.
Bringing it all together again is the lettering and design from Clayton Cowles and Tom Muller respectively. I like the continued use of mixed case to keep it consistent with House of X, along with a nice approach to the word balloons for Nimrod. The text pieces continue to enhance and enrich the overall story and make it feel distinctly like a Hickman-penned comic.
This continues to be one of the best beginnings to a new era of the X-Men.
ONE | Time
Since the announcement of the two series, there’s been speculation about the title for this one since Powers of X is meant to be read as “Powers of Ten”. When House of X #1 was released last week, there was an idea postulated that it was in reference to exponential mutant batches birthed in the Krakoa pods or beyond. While that could still another reason, it feels like its framework is more the time periods that this book takes place in.
Tumblr media
We’re given four primary time periods in X0, X1, X2, and X3, following the powers of ten scale of 1, 10, 100, and 1000.  X0 represents the past, a time when Xavier was just dreaming his dream of a mutant paradise.
X1 is Year 10 and represents the present in House of X #1. It’s somewhat interesting to see the X-Men back on a ten-year scale from what appears shortly before the original five to the current time. The original five operating in the 2000s is just a weird prospect.
X2 is 100 years from day one, with a war between the few remaining mutants and the “Man-Machine Supremacy” occurring. This appears to be one of the primary periods that we’re going to be seeing action and new characters set in the Powers of X series. It may be from here that we see the prima facie forces informing this narrative.
X3 is 1000 years since the dawning of Xavier’s dream. It’s arguably the weirdest as well, following the fall of mankind.
Tumblr media
There’s also a hint right off the bat that there’s something wrong. Wrong with time, possibly, or maybe just wrong with Xavier. While Charles is enjoying a day at the fair, he’s approached by Moira MacTaggert. Who he doesn’t know. That’s ominous for a number of reasons, since a large part of Charles’ youth was spent with Moira at Oxford University and she was his fiancé for a time. It makes you wonder if someone’s messed with Charles’ memories, or if maybe something or someone is messing with the timeline.
For the latter, other than growing new mutants, this could also be one of the reasons why we’re seeing characters who should be dead back up and alive in House of X #1. It might also be why time overall seems to be such an important element in this story.
The nature of the text pieces, the file names and numbers, and the importance of it in the X1 period (and what looks like possibly a similar quest in the X2 period), it kind of makes me wonder if Moira is a time traveller herself. It’s possible that X0 is before Charles met her at university and therefore doesn’t know her at this point in time, but I think that compresses the timeline of events even further than we’re already squashing the periods between X0 and X1.
Tumblr media
In X2 there’s also a curious exchange as Xavier receives the data procured by Sabretooth, Mystique, and Toad in House of X #1. I’m not sure if the confusion was intentional as a hint that something else was going on, or if we were meant to infer that Magneto was manipulating the drive to get it to Xavier, but it at least appears that Xavier is using telekinesis. Xavier doesn’t have telekinesis as a power.
It makes you wonder if something has changed with Charles, giving him new expanded powers, or reinforcing that maybe this isn’t even Charles. With the people being grown in pods and the rise of composite mutants in the future, it makes me wonder if the eugenics tests started even soon. Not to mention that we still haven’t seen Xavier’s face in the present.
TWO | Space?
In X2, we’re given kind of a bleak outlook for how many mutants are left remaining in the 22nd century. Roughly 10,000 mutants living in the Shi’ar Empire and 8 mutants living on Earth. Yeah, that’s a small population. It kind of boggles the mind as to what’s going on between the mutants and machines on Earth since that’s barely a resistance.
Tumblr media
There are some interesting questions raised here about the first wave of “Dawn of X” once House of X and Powers of X are over. This seems to be more of an idea seed for what’s coming next, especially with the previews for New Mutants and Excalibur that seem to be sending various X-teams into space again. Even the forthcoming X-Men series looks like it might have ties to intergalactic derring-do.
There’s also a mention of Empress Xandra that’s sure to perk up some ears. Xandra was introduced by Kelly Thompson and Oscar Bazaldua in Mr. & Mrs. X and is supposedly the daughter of Charles Xavier and Lilandra Neramani.
THREE | Days of Future Tenses Yet to Come
What’s a horrible mutant future without a Days of Future Past framework? The  X2 period uses familiar elements from many of the dystopian futures that we’ve seen over the years in X-Men comics.
Tumblr media
There are elements here from many alternate futures including traditional Sentinels, Nimrod, hounds, and such, but it somehow feels fresh. Although it’s a bleak, dystopian world where practically every mutant is dead, there’s still a small thread of hope. Given what we see later that hope is probably futile, but you wonder where this is heading.
There is so much world and character-building that feeds into the construction of the X2 period, including the new elements of Krakoa that were introduced in House of X #1, that it feels like framing this simply as another alternate future that’s going to be worked out and fixed by the end of the series is a little naïve.
It could be a vehicle for introducing Rasputin into the world, a Chimera mutant based on the DNA of Kitty Pryde, Piotr Rasputin (with the possibility of some Illyana in there too, since she’s got a soulsword, but it may be that just one of their genetic stock can yield both mutant powers. Though the soulsword is magic not mutant), Gunther Bain, Laura Kinney, and Quentin Quire. And we could well see her transplanted elsewhere when “Dawn of X” begins.
Tumblr media
The hunters are kind of neat. We see a couple of them with their masks off and they seem normal, but who’s to tell. They might be human, they might be machine, they might be both, we’re still unsure as to what the deeper state of humanity happens to be in this time period. Much of the early landscape we see in the Nexus is battleground, full of destruction and debris, but the area around Nimrod’s tower looks to be a built up futuristic city. Who lives there? Or maybe what lives there?
I also quite like the design of the hunters. They remind me of the Hellfire Club soldiers’ design (and by extension some of the Reavers) with a few tweaks to make them more fit Nimrod’s design and the singular lens to make their asymmetry feel a little creepy. I’m curious if we’re supposed to think that these hunters are the new Reavers, or if maybe there’s some connection to some form of the Hellfire Club.
Tumblr media
Now, Omega seems to be Nimrod’s superior. He defers to her and seems to get her blessing in order to enact his archival experiment from her. We don’t know if she’s still Karima Shapandar, but it seems like she might be, the only difference is that she’s now red. Bigotry also appears to have become a more apparent part of her personality, using one of the common dismissive phrases of “you people” when dealing with Clyobel.
You have to wonder what happened to her prior to her reactivation in House of X #1 that has changed her so dramatically from her time with the X-Men. And what shaped and honed that hatred even further into the future.
FOUR | Flawed Design
There’s a kind of nihilism that’s baked into the story. It comes with the territory of a horrible future for Marvel’s mighty mutants, but it extends to some of the characters and situations throughout this issue as the world-building informs us of what’s going on in the X2 period and of what led to parts of the current situation. It seems like failure is going to be a theme for Powers of X, failure of the dream, failure of systems, failure of communication and trust, failure of legacy. It would seem depressing, but it’s endlessly fascinating the way that it’s presented.
Tumblr media
For starters, handing over any kind of breeding programme for the continued survival of mutants over to Sinister is insane. Even with mutant leadership apparently missing when it happened, it’s still insane. Sinister is a self-serving mad scientist, so it’s no wonder that it blew up in everyone’s faces. It also makes you wonder what other schemes he had in mind, and whether or not his “execution” actually took. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw him, and another generation of his own personal mutants, before the story runs its course. He always seems to have a back-up plan, not to mention another cloned body just ready to be activated.
Giving up and defecting to the Man-Machine Supremacy after deliberately sabotaging the fourth generation of his breeding pits to destroy Mars feels a little too simple for Sinister.
Tumblr media
But that flaw isn’t limited to Sinister. We see it in the Man-Machine Supremacy’s breeding programme too at the Khennil (referred to in the text piece as the Man-Machine Ascendancy). Obsolete and ill-considered eugenics seems to be part of man’s purview as well in how it created the original hounds (presumably the ones we know and love like Rachel Summers) and then the subsequent “black brains”.
There’s also a theme of betrayal throughout. In that it’s part of the genetic make-up of the Khennil hounds, that it was part of Sinister’s plan with his fourth generation brood, and there’s the suggestion that mutant leaders were “disappeared” through betrayal.
Tumblr media
The final, and ultimately fatal, flaw comes in the future with the failure of Nimrod’s experiment started in the X2 period brought forward to the end in X3’s Mutant Library. This one’s likely not purposeful, rather degradation of systems through age, but it’s the one that leads to the end of mankind and the mutant race with the idea that it’s not possible to bring them back.
Though, I wouldn’t be surprised that this is the problem that this series is trying to fix.
FIVE | The Four Horsemen
Tumblr media
One of the interesting things I found among the X2 time period was who survives. Among the 8 who are still living, you’ve got representatives of Sinister’s breeding programme, from a standard composite in Rasputin to an outlier priest class in Cardinal, but then you’ve got a group of four. I find it particularly interesting that they’re introduced in the form of a group of four because it gives certain connotations.
The four aren’t named in the story, but they look like Magneto, Wolverine, Black Tom, and Zorn (the Ultimate Universe brother to Xorn that Hickman and Rafa Sandoval created in Ultimate Comics: Hawkeye). I mean, it’s entirely possible that these four are more composites or clones grown by Sinister or someone else, especially since it’s 90 years from “now” and they all seem relatively well put together, but these are four characters that arguably have a tenacity for longevity. Hell, Black Tom can pretty much regrow himself like Swamp Thing.
But back to the four. It gives another possible reason as to why these existing characters are still alive in the future. They could be new representatives of the Four Horsemen of Apocalypse.
Tumblr media
I mean, there’s a number of people that Wolverine could be mentioning as the “Old Man”. It could be Xavier. Could be someone else. But like Black Tom, we’ve been seeing Apocalypse popping up again in numerous covers and solicitations (after all he’s on the cover for House of X #2 at that).
It also potentially ties into all of the religious symbolism and meta-narrative that Hickman has been seeding throughout House of X and Powers of X so far. From Xavier creating a new Adam and Eve beneath a Tree of Life, Magneto emphasizing the coming of new gods in Jerusalem, the possibility of Krakoa creating all sorts of plant golems, Nimrod’s tower, and now the end times as portrayed in the book of Revelation.
Also, one of the file names for the text pieces includes “(APOC_build)”.
SIX | The Garden
Tumblr media
The end to Powers of X #1 has an interesting parallel to the beginning of House of X #1. Where the latter had Xavier seemingly hatching his Adam & Eve out of the Krakoa pods, in X3, following the seeming collapse of mankind, there’s a place called “The Preserve” where the Librarian references some kept around similar to dinosaur bones in a museum.
There are some oddities, though, as when mining Nimrod’s database, the Librarian seems to be searching for personalities, sad to find that they’ve degraded. It makes you wonder if the Preserve is a place to house relics, or if maybe they’re trying to breed a new race of mutants. Also, who or what the Librarian represents at this point is anyone’s guess.
SEVEN | A Drawing of Three
In the opening sequence between Moira and Charles, there’s another interesting thing as Moira recounts briefly that she had a fortune-telling. From that we draw a traditional three card spread. There’s a number of ways that you can read them, but two are most prevalent. In the first reading, card 1 is the past, 2 is the present, and 3 is the future. In the other, card 1 represents the context of the question being asked, card 2 represents what the person asking should focus on to affect or change the situation, and card 3 represents the potential outcome. (Now, I know there are countless other ways to read the cards, including card 2 representing the querent and the other two influencing it, but we’d be here all day if I broke down all possible interpretations to just read the spread.)
Given that it is a timeline question, though, in a story about time, I think it’s interesting that all three cards pulled are interpreted through the future of the  X2 time period and the characters there. (Also somewhat odd in that all three are Major Arcana.) And it that, it makes it even stranger as a timeline question that would normally take a past, present, future reading.
I personally tend to use Aleister Crowley and Lady Frieda Harris’ Thoth Tarot when I do personal readings, including Crowley’s book on further meanings and connections, as well as Lon Milo DuQuette’s commentary and analysis in the beautiful Understanding the Thoth Tarot, so my frame of reference is probably different given the celestial twist and changes made (along with tons of attributions and connections according to Hermetic Kabbalah). I’m also a large proponent of people only doing readings for themselves, bringing their own interpretations and influences to the reading and their understanding of the symbolism, connections, and such. So, if you disagree with anything I write here, feel free to throw it out and do your own work.
Tumblr media
Anyway, the drawing of The Magician as the past, as represented by Rasputin is interesting. Especially in Hickman’s statement of “one foot in two worlds”. This could be representative of two things, the past (as in she’s a composite of different mutants from the past) and the future, or it could be referring to her soulsword and the fact that she represents a magical world and a mundane world. It could be reading Rasputin as simple as a literal magician. The Magician card itself typically represents communication, wisdom, craft, and skill. As representing the past, it could be interpreted as that the previous timeframes were where all of the skill, determination, and communication came from. That all of that X-magic is behind them.
The card for the present is The Tower, as represented by Nimrod’s tower. Hickman incorporates some of the symbolism of the biblical tower of Nimrod, the Tower of Babel, here in a symbol of “collapse and rebirth”. The Tower card, often also referred to as the Blasted Tower (depending on your perspective on the Tree), often represents combat, strife, ruin, and a destruction of plans. It certainly makes sense for the present of the  X2 time period as it’s rife with conflict caused by the war between the few remaining mutants and the Man-Machine Supremacy.
The final drawing for the future is The Devil, as represented by Cardinal (I still want to call him Redcrawler). Like Rasputin, this could simply be down to the character correlations (in that the Nightcrawler genetic stock that Cardinal draws upon is descended from that “demon” mutant offshoot). The card itself is often read to represent blind impulse, unscrupulousness, temptation, and obsession. All of that seems at odds with the Cardinal character that we see in Powers of X #1, so it’s kind of hard to gauge. If it represents the future, it could be that some sort of recklessness on the part of the few remaining mutants leads to a complete collapse (as we seem to see in the X3 period). Or maybe our priest isn’t necessarily what he seems.
At its most basic, the spread seems to be telling us what we can discern from the comic itself, of a period of a kind of golden age, followed by a collapse and a period of strife, before temptation possibly leading everything astray, but part of me thinks that’s too simple. I haven’t gone into attributions, and whether or not the presence of the cards together are well or ill aspected, so there might be something there that sheds a different light.
Or Hickman could have an entirely different meaning behind any of this.
CONCLUSION | All the Small Things
Between the first issues of House of X and Powers of X, I’m impressed by their depth. It could well be a case of overthinking and over-analyzing the story, the text, and the imagery, of reading too much into the ideas, but this work from Hickman, Silva, Di Benedetto, Gracia, Cowles, and Muller lends itself to be scrutinized.
It can be enjoyed, very much so, on a surface level as a great science fiction adventure story, and absolutely should be. It’s entertaining fiction as a groundwork, but that it can be studied for clues and other meanings can be a large part of the fun of a work like this. It gets imaginations running wild trying to see how or if the pieces fit, almost like a puzzle or a treasure hunt.
Powers of X #1 leads us further down a rabbit hole that this new era of the X-Men is taking us down and it’s an exciting ride so far.

KP finally finishes Gifted s2
gave up on this back when FOX was stupid and Marvel had me jaded (still does but meh). so here’s the final 3 episodes and my incoherent babble about them i guess, after not watcing the show or nearly a year and only having my previous babble session as a refresher about what’s going on
Episode 14:
for once the “previously on dbz” segment is needed since,. yeah been almost a year since i’ve watched this...whoops
heeeey opening flashback! i forgot the format of this show...-.- oh hey not-Graydon...you know his comment about “freaks to teleport me through traffic” would’ve been funnier if he was Graydon, since Kurt is technically his sibling...as is Clarice... just saying.
oh right, Lauren was dosed with serum. well, at least it’s working right, really screwing her up. but again, Mom is the only rational and logical one.
how are sewers large enough for a tent metropolis? but oh hey, she knows about past Morlocks hm??? maybe cause some Mauraders action...hm??? or something they previously established with the Brotherhood or not-Bishop explained that i can’t remember, whatever. i’m just happy to see Blink. and the Morlocks have a network to places...like Pittsburgh? i thought they just live din NYC...ok in this story it’s just DC because that’s where we’re set ok, but still...
wait not-Graydon is making Sentinel Guy do the Mauraders plotline?? ooo...
is the Hellfire building CGI? that..looked badly shaded...and Lorna’s hair still looks stupid...though Andy’s hair does too...why do the bad guys have bad fashion sense?
i hadn’t forgotten how Mary Sue the Struckers were though...uhg...but hey don’t sweat it Mom, if Moira McTaggert’ taught us anything, you’re never the only non-mutant in the pro-mutant side; turns out you’l end up being one all along eventually.
oh good back to Blink. please don’t flirt with not-Bishop though. just...go fight Purifiers, since that was backstory for you, ok, that’s way better than flirting. wait Gabby? uh...when’d Blink get blue in her hair?
wait Cop Man, were they dead when you found them, or did you...overall though, i am really liking the atmosphere of the Purifer’s tunnel raid. the mood and tension are great, and the cinematography is doing a good job at keeping it. it’s a shame the editor feels the need to cut back to sunny Hellfire tower to break the atmosphere...but hey
oh don’t get cocky Morlock guys...and grenade, yup cocky. but again, the lighting and mood of everything in the tunnels is really good. the power effects not so much...but tv budget. and i had actually forgotten not-Bishop had a lazer eye O.o
dang Mom you are still best OC here
nooooo you shot Blink!!! baby girl nooooooo. idc about Sentinel Guy’s burst of conscious at “wait there are mutant children?” you shot best girl Blink. boo on you
Episode 15:
flashback time yay -.- but Blink! won’t make me forget you shot her since the recap ended on that...but hey tell me more about her past please, i really want to know why she doesn’t think she’s best girl. just saying “i was with the brotherhood and i didn’t like it” doesn’t cut it...and John no, you’re not allowed to give out redemption to everyone unless they are convenient to your aesthetic or philosophical interpretation, that’s why Krakoa preaches
John you don’t have time to fight not-Bishop out of grief ok. you were a ranger, you should realize that.
wait, so Reeva’s the one to blame for the council of stupid on Krakoa? that...actually makes sense, since she’s done tones of hypocritical last minute rule changing plans. weird.
really, my joke about Sentinel Guy’s heel turn was right? he honesty never realized that there were mutant children? i...wow
hey Lorna’s tiara. it makes her hair slightly less stupid looking. makes her outfit a tad stupid though...she should have more of that green popping somewhere, like her knives or a wrist band, or something.
really John just stayed there punching a wall and no cops found him? bad writing.
oooo is Dad gonna fry Cop Man?? sorry, disintegrate, i forgot what he did. and holy crap he did-sweet!
there are a lot of dutch angles in this episode...
oh Lauren don’t turn on your Mom, c’mon! why is no one thinking realistically?
hehe Cuckoos and fashion joke...although why did they get a pop of color elsewhere...or were the boots white just to point out the dirt
“do you think we can mind control our way to a mutant homeland” hm...should i just put in a cut off now for shots at Krakoa?
Mom you’re the only one with a brain! don’t sacrifice yourself because “i has no powers”
gasp! Sentinel Guy *SEES* a mutant child, now he knows for reals they exist. i’m sorry but this heel turn for him is stupid. i get the “i never saw them as *people* and now i do” but the way it’s framed is, as i’ve said “wait there are mutant CHILDREN?? O.o” and that is just bad writing
i swear, if Lorna trying to save Andy gets her killed, i will hate the Wonder Twins even more forever. but at least i agree with his “well her plan sounds stupid” when he learns the truth. they could’ve colored Lorna’s zippers the metallic green, that would’ve tied her costume together...sorry distracted
Lauren’s shield looks like bubble wrap...and she’s super pouty wth?
ok the Dad-Andy monster talk was really good...ruined by Lauren’s stupid face inserts sure, but the talk was really good.
hey back to not-Graydon and Sentinel Man. ah yes, i knew killing Cop Man would just switch Sentinel Man back in the end, that is also why his little epiphany was so annoying, because ultimately it was pointless.
aw man sappy music when the OC Family gets back together...yeah ok, but still i’ll groan a bit because uhg. but ooo Lorna comes back to Marcos too ok now it’s less groany (but still overly cheesey and neon annoying). do kinda like John on the roof...too bad the over the top music drones it out a bit.
Episode 16:
the finale! i don’t...know what to expect going into this, other than Blink pops in at the end and might be Exiles Blink?
hey the last time shows the reunion scene would’ve worked well without the over the top music. huh
oh the flashback is the 7/15 event. heh Hawks News, instead of Fox, heh. but otherwise...meh, mandatory flashback
so their plan is, use the Uber Mary Sue Wonder Twins to destroy a skyscraper. i...sure, what else can we expect from the Strucker Show (maybe Dad will sacrifice himself and do it all on his own, that’d be a neat-yet obvious-twist)
you can tell John’s depressed cause his hair isn’t floofy anymore ^^;;;
again, Mom’s the only one with thinking ahead skills.
oh, we’re getting spliced in flashbacks...yeah Dad’s gonna die.
Cuckoos! srry, still one of the best parts of any episode. and our dear Esme is starting to turn...
oh John’s going Warpath on us with his face paint (yes he’s Thunderbird, i know). the John vs Sentinel Guy thing might be a bit much, but this is an awesome fight for John...even if he is being a fool and self sacrificial.
at least it was a commercial break that broke the energy of the fight scene, and not just a scene change. also, more flashback, i’m even more convinced Dad is gonna die.
did they dye Andy’s hair so he and Lauren would look more twinny? that’s stupid...and a point i probably already made...
hm...since Bishop is from the future, are they implying that Erg is his ancestor? (though that fails to track with the timeline of DoFP IF this is the same continuity of course)
ooooooo John said it, he is Thunderbird...and i think his face paint changed between shots because that white line wasn’t there by the dumpster scene...whoops
oh don’t tell me the power of friendship is going to save the day. oh good, no, just the standby of “kill the evil cuckoos”
well the Wonder Twins are down for the count, so even more thinking Dad’s gonna die to blow up the Hellfire building...wait...you can’t control your powers when Reeva sonic screams? well Dad has no control-PERFECT!
wow there are a lot of power fights here. no wonder the affects in other episodes sucked, they spent the budget on the finale lol
hey Dad has the same plan i did. again, the writing telegraphed that was the ending...but still, i give Dad credit, he has grown as a character. the flashback doesn’t help though it just spells it out “this is best OC love him he is best ever” which...yeah, this show does that with the Struckers, we’ve covered that a millions times by now
i wonder if Dad touched himself would be disintegrate? also, shouldn’t his kids be safe, since same strain of X-gene are supposed to be immune...or does that only apply to certain power types?
not to play it down, but yup, dad exploded. if it wasn’t so thrown at you that that was how it’d end from, the start, then this moment might’ve had more impact...also the moment itself was kinda “you knew this was coming, there it’s done”
hey Esme’s on their team now, neat! i thought she’d be independent.
heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey Blink’s back! but she had a collar on her coat that was reminiscent of her AoA costume, and she opened a portal to a place with burning fire...kinda like the DoFP setting/AoA, and she never addressed anyone by name, just a general “come with me”....so yeah, that was totally Exiles Blink, and not the Blink of this story. that’s really kinda awesome.
too bad we won’t be following up on that since there’s no plans for season 3. but...it was an ok way to end i guess. it closed off the story for our main people, and we all know that it’ll never end with a “and they all lived happily ever after in peace and harmony” because it’s Xmen. it opens the door for other stories to happen in the same setting...and leaves the big hole about Blink at the end, but yeah...
but now it’ll never be followed up probably because disney/marvel thinks the Xmen are the Inhumans now *shrugs* whatever, i finally finished The Gifted, i can check that off my To-Watch List

← ONCE THERE WAS AN IDEA TO BRING TOGETHER →
The Inferno is impending. Now that more know the truth about Krakoa, it’s only a matter of time before Destiny’s visions come true and the Island burns. Raven will never trust Charles or Erik again; she doesn’t like them either. It’s not as if Raven is especially trustworthy herself. She just knows that men like Charles and Erik are dangerous. At the very least, she has Destiny returned to her. Her wife has secrets she doesn’t divulge, but Raven just needs her alive and present. They can burn the world together.

Irene is troubled at times; there’s so much she sees that she keeps to herself or Raven can’t understand. None of that matters. She loves Irene, and she will always fight for her. Destiny is the only person who could ever soften Raven’s shell. Having her back — and young again — is enough.
✗ ERIK LEHNSHERR & CHARLES XAVIER (616) played with Raven. They dangled Irene over her head knowing full well that they would never resurrect her to keep Moira happy. They’ll pay for that. They’ve made an enemy in Raven, and even if she plays nice on the Council they’re walking a fine line. If there’s ever a chance to plunge the knife in, Raven will take it.
✗ MOIRA MACTAGGERT (616) is going to pay. She was once a powerful mutant who was capable of rebirth, but now she’s just a human woman. Her fear of Irene after Irene and Raven burned her alive blocked Destiny from the resurrection queue for a long time. Now, it turns out she’s turned on Krakoa and mutanthood. Tasked with tracking her down, Raven’s ready to make it hurt when she does find her.
← COULD BECOME SOMETHING MORE  →
✗ THE QUIET COUNCIL OF KRAKOA → Some don’t approve of her seat there, but Raven has more than earned it. She’s needed to provide balance against the likes of Charles, Storm and Emma Frost. Now that Irene is on the Council as well, it’s even better. There’s a potential to sway the Council now that would have been harder before. Raven plays nice, but it’s only out of necessity.
✗ OTHER AFFILIATIONS – krakoa.

In other news, I have such a soft spot for ‘asshole antiheroes/not-quite-villains who turn into total marshmallows around kids they inadvertently act as mentors for’ and I just....love Juggernaut and Miranda Manuel aka D-Cel so much. Their relationship is ABSURDLY cute, and now that Cain is a regular on Krakoa and Arakko and can come and go as he pleases, Miranda BETTER be a regular in Legion of X with him and spend most of her time at the Altar bitching about how she can’t do livestreams from inside it because apparently the astral plane doesn’t get great reception on Earth and frankly that’s just RUDE.

Gonna have a 616 verse now! Half of my stuff goes into it s o please note that stuff will change as the comics develop y'all!
Ava still works for the D.C.A but kinda has a "Frank Castle" gig on the sidelines where she kicks the shit out of people. Has a thing where she's going on about alien rights due to being half Skrull and god why is there only one who isn't evil. Hangs out a fair deal with Gwenpool and Deadpool really.
Mimi's taken up a modelling deal at a mutant rights activist- having freshly arrived from Wakanda. Passionate about what she does but secretly wants to meet the X-men to work out a sort of business deal with them.
Finn is a mutant in hiding. He doesn't want to get involved with all the conflict going on and avoids mutants like the plague. Works at a pet shop and once in a while he might get involved with Squirrel Girl and her cool gang.
Sal has a kinda-job at different space stations since he's way more open about being an alien and actually doesn't bother hiding the large cracks in his skin. Still thinks he killed his sister but now he keeps in contact with Karolina Dean and Singularity. Actually doesn't dress as slutty and a teeny bit more open about dating.
Mahogany still struggles but they've begun to play themself off as a different species at time. They're a little bit more self aware and gets easily attached to passing heroes. Friends with Swamp thing and likes 'playing' about with he monster version of the Howling commandos.
Pascal has decided that he's gonna live with the other Inhumans now but he still comes down to hang around the humans. Runs a fortune telling business fully rather than simply working part time.
Wulf doesn't assist Edith but he still lives on Midgard, mostly just so he can travel about the world. He still meets up a lot with Edith but he's a bit more relaxed. Doing some research on the ways realms can help each other and still recovering from the realm war. Heavily scarred in this verse.
Edith is much more involved in her Valkyrie training, mostly due to the fact that evey other Valkyrie is dead and she's needed now. Loves to visit Wulf but low-key has a crush on Jane Foster. She's louder and more expressive than my normal verse Edith.
Peach and Dae still live together, though they have more memories of their lives and Peach currently has twin daughters with her. Their original half, Rowan, is still alive and the three of them mostly take up random jobs while doing research on mutant species. They're a lot more confident for people who came from a kinda apocalyptic world!
As of now in comic terms? Any muses who are a mutant are currently living in Krakoa with the rest of the mutant race. All the muses know each other in different ways and they all share a group chat sjjsjs
