My favorite Zelda game, the only one I've ever finished, is the first one. What would you recommend I play after that? A Link to the Past?

Since I know you like pixel games, I would say A Link to the Past, A Link Between Worlds, Link's Awakening, or Minish Cap!! I think MC is available through the Nintendo online service on the switch, but I'm not sure since I don't have that. ALttP is the most like classic zelda (alttp is the third game) so if you like classic because it's a bit straightforward and mostly dungeon hopping, definitely alttp!!! Also the style is a little gritty and less silly to me (but still silly for pink bunny Link :3). I wouldn't rec zelda 2 bec it's notoriously difficult (it was for me 😭).

MC is based on the "(car) toon" link, so it's much brighter and has a lot of bright colors and cute stuff, but it's still a pixel game and idk I just really enjoyed it personally!! But it's the last pixel game in the zelda series I'm p sure.

A Link Between Worlds is sort of a reimagining of alttp but it's very unique even with the same map and the saturated hyrule is contrasted w the pale lorule, so a lotta fun with the aesthetics.

Finally Link's Awakening!! It was originally a pixel game but it has a 3D remake on switch that is very loyal to the Gameboy experience PLUS fixes a lot of frustrating mechanics in the og. I think it might be your best bet, but also it's a very bright colored, silly game so maybe not if that's not the vibe you're looking for!

The good thing about zelda games is that they're made to stand on their own legs, even sequels (namely adventures of link, majora's mask, & phantom hourglass) so there's no order to worry about, you're not missing anything because each story is more or less self-contained. There's also a variety so there's no need to play every single one esp if one doesn't match your gaming tastes unless you're just a freak like me and your brain is mush. It really depends on what you're looking for in your game considering mechanics and aesthetics!!!

BUT, I'm gonna write this anyways. So what if my non-ask posts get less attention? I don't really care, I needed to yap about this (That, and I'm trying to take pity on my poor brother who doesn't want to hear about CoD for the hundredth time)

Especially for CoD fic writers:

Gaz is not perfect.

And you might be like "Mouse? Whot? I thot u were Gaz simp?" And while yes my dear sweet made up person, I am, that's part of the reason I say it!

We all know there is a lack of Gaz lovers in the fandom. Because he's not edgy-sad-boy, because he's not literally feral, because he's not daddy (I beg to differ on all of these but we'll get there), lots of people skip over him! Hell, he gets replaced by König all the time!

(Btw no, this isn't a König hate post. I was literally a König girly before I even knew about the game. I understand the appeal of an anxiety-skyscraper even if he isn't actually characterized)

But lately I've noticed something else. If someone does write Gaz, he keeps on being... Perfect? No flaws, amazingly chill, well adjusted member of society.

While this isn't the end of the world, I'm definitely guilty of this, it's just kinda boring. And to me, it shows the skipping over of a perfectly good character.

Having flaws isn't a bad thing, if anything I think it shows your fandom thinks about you!

So here's some note that I'm gonna start adding into my Gaz characterizations, you might want to look em over too. I've split them up into sections that don't really make sense but whatever.

Gaz canonically wants to do war crimes.

Okay this one is kinda a joke, plenty of people know about it. When he first met Price he was literally like "We're in a war and they won't let us fight. Will you let me do a crime?" And Price was like "sure! C'mon sunny, let's go murdering!"

The whole 'illegally detained Hassan' sticks out to me as well. That wasn't just Gaz of course, but he was definitely part of it.

Yeah Price snatched him, but y'know what? He kinda went along with it! Price saved him, gave him a gun, and he was like "Okie dokie!" He wants to fight, Price just gave him an outlet.

He stabs a guy in an alley (+ other not friendly activities)

Y'all remember that whole mission with Price and Laswell and Gaz? The one where they kidnapped a guy in public view? The one where he set off a prop grenade in a dumpster so he could 'take care' of a guy? The one that literally had a public shootout that he took care of and then continued kidnapping a guy.

That one mission with Price and Laswell where he splashes around in the water (oh wait there are multiple of those) and stabs people from the water so he and his captain can sneak around?

Y'all remember the mission with Price and Laswell and Gaz? The one where the intro is literally "oh no! Price and Gaz got shot- SURPRISE THEY SHOT THE PEOPLE!"? The one where Price and Gaz literally snipe people together, taking out entire groups from their sneaky spot? The one where Price sends Gaz in, he'll be watching, AND GAZ GETS ON THE FUCKING ROOF AT ONE POINT TO SMOKE THE PEOPLE OUT AND SHOOT 'EM (if chosen by player as preferred method to murder a large group of people)!?! The one where he makes funny jokes?

Y'all remember that mission with Nikolai and Farrah and Price and Gaz (saving Laswell)? The one where Gaz is literally takes out trucks from a helicopter? The one where he falls out of said helicopter (lmao)? The one where he. Shoots. People. FROM. A. ROPE. HE'S. HANGING. ON. FOR. HIS. LIFE.

And this is all (mostly) one game!! I'm not a huge fan of over the top violence, but that's literally cod sooo... Say what you want about Ghost, I personally think Gaz is more badass.

The whole 'potty training' conversation he has with Price in the ghillie suit is *very* funny

Joking about Price going in, he'll be on sniper duty, and Price is like "ffs Kyle, get your ass moving!"

Really all of his conversations with Price are good...

Listen, the Alone mission has some great dialogue! The voices in my head are different than their real voices but if I ever want a reminder of what Soap actually sounds like? "It's raining fucking hard" is literally how I remember Soap's voice. But it's also just *one* mission. Price and Gaz are making some good jokes on several occasions and I think we really ignore that!

All this to say, Gaz is a bit crazy. He's got morals, yes, but he's not afraid to get his hands dirty. He's not some golden boy, he's a fucking soldier. He's the one Price can and *will* keep off leash because he knows that Gaz will always come back, often with a bit of blood and a job well done.

C'mon guys, let's be more creative than "Soap but chill". Let him be charming, yes, but also understand that he's not some weak little guy who everyone is stronger than. He's got stamina and tactics, he's a danger and we love him for that.
