When he manages to force his eyes open, the man grunts, wheezes, and tries to shove himself upright. The room spins. His head is pounding. His vision swims. A moan sneaks out as he shuts his eyes tight. He forces himself to sit up. Someone says something he can’t quite make out. It feels like he’s being held underwater. He can barely think. It’s almost like before, except he’s under a thick blanket, and Jake is curled up against his side, warm and soft and present, grounding him in the now.

“Daddy?”

Bonnie’s voice is small and scared. It makes his chest ache. “I’m right here, pumpkin,” he tries to say, but it comes out all slurred and garbled and wrong. He can hear his youngest hiccup and sniffle, and then her small hand is on his left arm. He bends his head to press his cheek against it. “‘S gonna be okay.” Everything hurts too much to smile, but he can still lie.

Bonnie is careful now, in a way she never is. She wraps her arms around his neck cautiously instead of throwing herself against his chest. He rubs her back and tries to open his eyes again.

“You scared us,” she whispers. She wipes her nose on her forearm and curls up in her father’s lap. “Little Destiny said you weren’t gonna wake up.”

Fuzzy memories come back into focus. Little Destiny… Big Destiny’s daughter. Jay’s… girlfriend? …Something. His oldest son had professed his love for her, and that was enough.

He wants to reassure his daughter, but the words slip between his fingers and claw, and out of reach entirely. “‘S okay,” he manages to mumble, and gives her a gentle, albeit somewhat shaky squeeze.

The two of you have been studying almost all day, but you gave up a while ago. Soul, however, was way more keen on continuously studying.

You sat still for the most part, the only time you would move slightly was when soul had to move himself to turn the page in his book or write something down.

Soul removed his hand from the small of your back once again and wrote something down.

“oh my god” he sighed, burying his face into your collarbone.

You lean back, his head falling from you, your lower back, hitting the desk.

“Take a break, yeah?” you whisper, caressing his neck and jaw.

"but i have to get this done." soul whispers back, earning a glare from you. he sighs. "ok fine. but! let me finish the rest of this, and then ill stop. i promise!"

"ok. sure, whatever you say." you reply doubtfully, taking your hands off his neck and put them into his hair.

soul was dedicated to begin with, but with all the added pressure from fnc and himself at that, he felt like he couldnt stop. no matter how stressed it made him, no matter how much you and keeho nagged him to stop for just a second, he insisted he needed to continue if he wanted to communicate with his peers better and all.

news flash! he didnt stop.

"what are you doing?" soul asked as he felt you parting his hair with your nail.

"if you are going to be oh so keen on studying, im gonna make it so you cant continue." you reply leaning foward again.

Three of pentacles is telling me that he sometimes puts his career over you.. but then I look at the knight of cups and completely disregard that. I think he takes you to where he works. Letting you in the dance studio, showing you around FNC ent, showing his favorite weird little hiding spot to get away from Intak, he likes this. He likes you to see both sides of him. Shota and Soul.

This one hurts bro. Three of swords is telling me deep down Soul is so scared. Scared of being judged and left alone. He possibly has a past (either romantic or platonic) of someone in his life leaving him because they deemed him 'too much' and it eats at him. He needs reassurance, letting him know you like him just the way he is. Sometimes he might become insecure of clingy due to this fear and the best thing to do is comfort him.

Overall, Soul wants you to accept him as he is. He wants you see all sides of him because to him that's the ultimate sign of trust. Once he's comfortable and trusts you enough and you start dating, he does his upmost best to show you he loves you :)

oughg god! they are so! ok. collecting myself.

obviously they are family. chip is down bad for gillion we know that, also navyseal yuri real and canon. but it goes deeper than that. these people have been by each other's side through all of their development as people. chip going from the bastard pirate to a sensible (if sometimes stupid) adult trying his best to do good by the people he loves, jay coming out of the navy influence and seeing the world for what it is, growing into herself and her freedom, and gillion quite literally learning how to be a person instead of the martyr he was shaped into.

not only have they witnessed all these developments in each other firsthand, but they themselves inspired that change in each other!! they stuck with each other in the beginning when they all kinda sucked in one way or another and thought "these people are worth it". they stuck around until they molded each other into what they were meant to be from the beginning.

my favorite moments where this kinda happens are the ep 15/ep 86 parallels the ep 53/ep 81 parallels and the ep 47/ep 86 parallels.

you have the two different fnc fights where you can see the difference in how they treat and resolve conflicts between then and now. at first there where two issues, being that a) chip refused to understand/respect gillion's traditions and culture and b) gillion did not approach conflict resolution in a productive or healthy manner, not ever having learned how to talk it out. both of these problems are solved by episode 86 where instead of fighting a bloody battle while mad at each other and then being done with it, they actually talk it out first and then fight basically for fun and as a way for chip to show understanding for and honor gillion's traditions. both of these changes have been directly caused by them helping each other be better. chip who's all about talking and gillion who's all about honor learning to meet each other in the middle.

then the block betrayal scene vs the scene where chip threatens to quit piracy. where chip showed so much trust and understanding for jay, where jay was fully convinced that she did not deserve his trust and then later to have those roles be completely reversed! chip knowing that jay doesn't want to betray them, jay knowing that chip doesn't want to quit. they've always had this deep understanding of each other, they can tell exactly what the other is thinking, and though both of them are flawed people they love each other regardless. and they know that people deserve second chances, third chances, fourth chances, if only they try to be better, because they've fucked up in the past, they've both been on the wrong side of history. they look at each other and see a mirror image. however it took chip 80 episodes to be vulnerable while it took jay 80 episodes to talk candidly about how much she loves and admires chip.

and finally the talks between jay and gillion in edison kingdom and just before the second fnc fight. how gillion shows this massive amount of respect for jay's autonomy and trust in her choice. how he encourages her to choose for herself not for anyone else. and then later how jay tries to talk gillion out of literally letting someone kill him, consistently putting himself in harms way for everyone else. and it doesn't quite work but she shows so much respect for his autonomy as well the way she tells him that it's his choice what he does, and same as gillion told, her she tells him to act for himself, to stop being so selfless. and also since jay has such high respect for gillion's choices she has to be urged to even talk to him about this in the first place. not because she doesn't care about him letting himself get harmed but because their relationship is built on trusting that the other's choices are their own. it shows how much more open jay has become, how gillion stopped seeing himself separate from everyone else. how his initial advice to act selfishly is being thrown back at him and how he (with some trouble) finally accepts it.

they bicker and fight but they are oh so tender with each other when it counts and they love each other so much and their love shows in everything they do. in the ferociousness with which chip defends his crew, in the way jay stands by her newfound family over her old one, in the way gillion trains for months just to be able to protect them better (sentinel feat you will always be famous).

they literally belong together, do not separate.

I went on a fucking heroes journey trying to answer this ask, and though I know in my heart that anon just wanted a tiny glimpse into my brain, my ass was thinking far too much for a cohesive thought.

So here’s a couple that have been on the mind, fnc-centric

- Wild West AU

Yes, I’m also working on a Wild West AU for Ethersea, no you can never have too many cowboy aus. I’ve not done anything about this, I’m just thinking very hard about it, bc outlaws are literally land pirates. Anyways imagine you’re a bounty hunter Chip, going to bust some outlaws smuggling some stuff, and find a captive fish-man who seems way too feral for his own good. Imagine you end up recruiting this fish-man to help you hunt but immediately find out that whatever this guy is involved in, it goes WAY deeper than just getting unlucky and getting taken captive by some lowlife thugs. Shenanigans.

- Spaceship AU

(If you’ve ever listened to Swan Song by The Mechanisms, you get it) Chip finds this battered, strangely-shaped ship while stranded on a planet, and ends up stealing it, later discovering that the ship is powered by the mind of a long-dead champion named Gillion. Time for some space adventures! No tragedy here ahah :3 how much can it possibly hurt to fall in love with someone that you know you’ll never truly get to touch?

- Old Tattoo (the coffee shop au that lost its way)

This one’s literally just a self-indulgent (fully projecting) modern au where the albatrio are all adults trying to live a normal fucking life, while the universe is trying super hard to put them back together. (Soulmates frrrr) They eventually become roomates, and are also pulled into various schemes cooked up by Old Man Earl, as normalcy slowly begins to lose its meaning. They’re all trans, they’re all mentally ill, and they’re all vaguely aware of the fact that they knew each other in a past life. This one’s fnc-centric I think, unless PolyPirates demands it becomes known, and in that case I cannot stop it. I don’t control my writing my writing controls me.

Stone Age AU

This one requires knowledge of the Just Rolled What If: Stone Age session for it to truly make sense, but if you don’t have access to it, just imagine; what if there was timeline shenanigans a la spiderverse? Essentially, the crew of the Stone Age timeline fucked up in their world, and jeopardized multiple other universes. Chip and Jay from this world are completely immoral, and Gillion is trying his best to fix what they have done, while swearing an oath to kill his Chip and Jay. Stone!Chip and regular timeline Chip swap places, and while Stone!Chip learns of what could have been had things been different, the family he missed out on, regular Chip meets a broken and battered Gillion, devoid of that spark he’d grown familiar to. This au is mostly angst. I wanna talk more about it but I’d want that to be it’s own post (or fic)

Wrote a little something, just my take on a fnc interaction for episode 109 of riptide.

Chip looked around, slightly dazed. He half-heartedly walked over to a pile of rubble and sat down, resting his head in his hands.

He felt.... empty.

As if everything that made him human had been pulled directly out of him in one visceral motion.

He needed to cry, but nothing happened. No tears, no sniffling... nothing.

"What the fuck- What the actual fuck." He mumbled. "What have we gotten ourselves into."

Gillion watched carefully as Chip made his way over to the rubble. He felt his own heart sink and twist in pain as he did. The thought of what had just happened seemed so incredibly unreasonable it was impossible to believe it was true. Yet, there Chip sat. His skin pale, clothes bloodied, eyes filled more horrors than before.

Gill slowly made his way over to the rubble and sat next to Chip, wrapping his tail behind him.

"Hey-" He started. "Do you want to talk about it?"

"What is there to talk about, Gill?" Chip said, sitting up to look at him. "I literally died, my heart was ripped out of me and now I'm-"

He stopped, his voice wavering. He himself didn't even know what had fully happened. His eyes felt heavy and his mind raced as the moment played in his mind over and over again. The force Captain Widow used, the pain-

"Hey."

Chip's mind stopped as he felt Gillion's hand on his own. He didn't look up, just kept staring down.

Gillion felt the building anxiety and fear in Chip halt as he took his hand. It was cold, the tattoos barely flickering.

"I'm here, Chip. Just as you were for me. I can imagine how.. helpless you must feel, but everything is going to be alright. I swear to you. We'll find some way to fix this." Gillion spoke, his voice wavering for a moment.

He held Chip's hand and tried to look into his eyes. "Its going to be alright."

Chip stared at the ground, Gillion's words made him want to cry even more. Still no tears came. He leaned over and curled into Gill's shoulder, Gillion wrapping his arms around him.

"I want to go home-" Chip said with staggered breath. "This fucking place is horrible. We need to find Arlin.. and get out of here."

Gillion squeezed Chip a bit tighter.

"I know.. we need to go, and we will. Let's get the others back and to safety. Then we will find Arlin and figure out how to fix this."

"Thank you, Gill."

"Of course, Chip."

After a moment they both stood and faced one another. Looking into each other's eyes, Gillion's riddled with concern and compassion for Chip. Chip's, though a bit dimmer, were filled with gratitude for Gillion. The two embraced and Chip whispered.

"I don't know what I would've done without you, Gillion Tidestrider. Thank you again, for everything."
