Kei Tsukishima, a senior at college– a biologist with an aura of mystery, stepped into the laboratory with dread. Today marked the first encounter with his new apprentice, a moment he awaited with equal parts curiosity and annoyance. The thought of him having someone watch his every move made his skin crawl. As he adjusted his glasses, his eyes had a hint of mischief, already concocting a string of remarks to test the limits of his so-called apprentice. 

In the corner of the lab, amidst humming machinery and arrays of equipment, stood the young apprentice, (y/n). She obviously had determination, her eyes gleaming in an intellectual frenzy. Your presence was a stark contrast to Dr. Tsukishima's sternness, yet there was a hint of shared intellect that was possibly the start of a great partnership. 

“You must be Miss (y/n) I presume?” His voice cutting through the quiet laboratory hum. 

You nodded, offering a wide grin. “Yes, Tsukishima, it’s such an honor to work for you.” 

He turned around and went back to work, motioning for you to come observe. You stood on your tippy toes trying to get the best possible angle, he took notice of this. You sighed in annoyance.

“Too short to see the table?” He grinned to himself. You felt your face heating up with embarrassment. You slightly nodded, feeling all your pride leave your body. In this instance you didnt think height would be such an important factor, but considering he was doing a presicion experiment and he had to have the table basically up to his chest– height was a major factor.

He would never admit this out loud but, he thought it was kind of cute. Maybe this apprenticeship would work out. You had heard plenty of stories from past colleauges about how mean and rude he was, but you didnt think it to be true.

“That must suck.” He snickered. 

You thought wrong.

“I see why people call you so salty.” you remarked back.

They dont call him salty, you just felt the need to say that.

“Salty?” He glared down at you, you forgot how scary he was.

You said nothing in response, just stared at him in defiance. 

“Cat mustve gotten your tongue.” He looked away and continued his experiment, lowering the table so you could see. Maybe he wasnt so bad after all. 

You never really had gotten to know him. You had just heard stories and seen him in pass you in the hallway. Even then he didnt seem so bad. He always had this mysterious allure that made him sort of attractive, your friends never even bothered to hear you out; they wouldnt get it. You always watched him from afar, and now youre working for him, it feels kind of weird to be working for someone thats only a year older than you– he was good at what he does though.

“Are you even listening to me?” he scoffed in disbelief. This snapped you out of your trance.

“Of course im listening! Why wouldnt I be.” you rolled your eyes. You werent listening, but you cant let him know that.

“Oh really..” he paused. “Well then, I want an essay on how beneficial each finger is to the body. Turned in tomorrow.” 

Your jaw dropped. Who does he think he is? Some teacher?!

“Err.. of course.” your voice had an underlying tone of disapproval.

He took his goggles off and lowered the table completely.

“Help me clean this up.” he ordered.

You didnt realize you had spaced out that entire procedure. What kind of apprentice are you. Clearly a lousy one. 

As you finished cleaning everything up, you noticed Tsukishima struggling to wrap a bandage around his hand. You wondered what happened to him. You didnt realize it, but you were staring at him pretty intensely. 

“I cut my hand on the door handle yesterday, they finally fixed it after that.” He said with a straight face, that almost convinced you to hold his face.

“Do you need help with the bandage?” Your eyes widened at your own response. What came over you?

“Ill be fine.” he said back with a monotone voice.

Your face flushed with embarrassment, again. How many times can one embarras themself? 

“You can go now.” That was his way of saying leave now.

You took off your lab coat and grabbed your regular jacket and headed out for the night.

here are my fresh thoughts on it

visually, the film is stunning. the thing about doctor strange films is that the film production is absolutely allowed to go ham with the cinematography. mystical shit, bitch, absolutely weird. it was why the first was my favorite, and why i anticipated this one (probably not as much as i did for nwh, but what can i say lmao spiderman funny i am tired college freshman epic !!!)

like some of my favorite shots or scenes were definitely homages to horror films. the reflection/mirror dimension parts going for the ring, and the tunnel chase scene being what i think is an homage to the shining (?). a lot of those are scattered throughout MoM, and i thought those were really cool. thank u mr raimi

however

plot-wise? not good.

lemme just narrow it down to some points,

wherein the screenwriters, evidently,:

did NOT pick up on the nuances of stephen and christine's pre-canon lovers-to-friends arc in his first film

surely, only solely watched the what if? series to put in the concept of strange feeling more romantic love than he actually did in the mcu (to be fair, ol' cabbagepatch really sells it well, it's the VA expertise in him)

did NOT watch wandavision,

OR took away from it the idea that wanda only became a... questionably redeemable villain. yknow, after she took down a witch who would only hoard and harness her powers to herself without the guarantee of westview being set free

ignored the fact that wanda herself imposed seclusion and self-exile after westview, because That is how she learned to let go and so that she wouldnt hurt anyone anymore

DEFINITELY ignored the fact that people like monica, darcy, and jimmy acknowledged that she was at the peak of her grief, and knew she was ultimately good underneath all of that

kinda forgot about billy and tommy's powers, and how if they had used them against the scarlet witch in defense by the end, it would likely still make the point they wanted it to

uhhh once again denied a character who has suffered throughout her life even the tiniest sliver of a redemption arc OR real mental help that can be talked about. she doesnt visibly come out of there alive, there's no small seconds of her facing justice but getting proper healing and adjustment that she needed. they literally said that the darkhold (if i am spelling it right, edits abound) corrupts the user. ok, and as the scarlet witch, a literal nexus being, one of the most powerful people out there, couldnt be given the chance to gradually overcome that by the end?,, what is the point of establishing her as a key figure if she justs becomes the big bad to be vanquished at the end of the day?

also lol skipped over mordo being "the guy that tries to kill doctor strange every now and again", like he didnt have a large role in the first film

and many other weak points that may come to mind later on

so, basically, you mean to tell me that throughout all of wanda maximoff's life in the mcu, she never gets another channel for her grief, and that is how exactly she dies? her story doesn't become one of those that essentially say, you get to carve your own destiny and your position or actions or whatever people say dont make you completely evil. no, no, it doubles down on the fact that she's a wicked woman, or turned into one because she lost her kids.

also its crazy because.. idk if it's the angry wanda stan in me right now just after watching the movie, but i cannot remember what stephen's role was. was his arc set on becoming the guardian and mentor for america chavez? was it another lesson for him on how actions have consequences and so does his pride? or was it solely hinged on love and want for christine? hm. he's the titular character.

great cg tho thats what im saying, and all these actors still bring all theyve got to the table despite the weak script.

honestly, way back at the beginning before more details of the film's production were announced, i thought mordo would be the antagonist. y'know, because they alluded to that in the first film's end credits scenes AND because he just is in the comics. like he'd do something or find a way to fuck up sorcerers and magic in the multiverse, because he literally said "no more sorcerers" or smth like that after his disillusionment with the ancient one, so it would be up to a doctor strange/scarlet witch teamup to stop him. and ofc wanda and stephen could have their debate on who's more villainized and why, but still have them be on the same ground. you would expect wanda to be tempted by mordo, with the promise of her children or universes where she's with them and her husband and her brother, but she wouldnt be the total rushed villain and redemption would at least still be on the table. stuff like that, yknow.

(altho john krasinski as reed richards is cool in concept. it fits, and id like to see more of him in that role ngl.

sir patrick stewart as professor x... definitely done dirty with his quick death [as is the case with all members of the illuminati, why are they in charge if they can get taken out like that] but otherwise extremely cool to show his impact And his powers. you could feel that he's got the heart when he went into wanda's mind for a bit. i personally havent watched the x-men films in his and sir ian mckellen's era, and yet somehow because ive got flashes of knowing about it from childhood i get to feel like ive missed him. thats fun)

so did i enjoy it? kinda, yea. a 6-7/10

would i watch it again? only for the sheet music battle scene because i want to properly hear the soundtrack to see how it fits the moment.

otherwise, no. i'd rather rewatch the first doctor strange film, wandavision, and any other fan fix-its.

also excuse me i wanna talk about my little mirror family so bad its not even funny. im like. because of my own inhibitions concerning family, i rarely ever plan out and embrace my characters families but these fucking guys.....

okay so as i said, we have fjord as well as kestrel 👇

the both of them were left alone for quite some time like it was JUST the two of them which is unusual since mirrors prefer to be in large packs but the clans they were born in didnt have any other mirrors. they met eachother out scavenging and it was like LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT okay like im so cheesy cuz they are cheesy in a brutal mirror way LOL so they decide to run away together after visiting a few times cuz they naturally are just drawn to other mirrors.

kestrel was unsatisfied with the glimmery landscape of the starfall isles and honestly she is just. shes a girlboss never forget that she loves to hunt loves to run, loves the thrill of surviving and making a place for herself in the environment but arcane flight is full of little fuckin NERDS so she proposed the idea to go back to where they belong. and fjord obviously loved the idea if you couldnt tell. he wasnt bored but he would follow her literally anywhere 💀

they founded their own clan there and it was quite lonely for a while. until they found tarren

despite how he may look, tarren is upbeat and jolly, and he believes that you shouldnt just survive and come out on top, you should thrive. you should be happy. fjord and kestrel honestly found him a bit annoying at first since he was so uncharacteristically chatty for a mirror, but eventually they let him stay since he knows the land better than them and is genuinely helpful

so time jump their clan is definitely not thriving but they are still alive and thats what matters. things start looking up once the other carrions come together to lead the scavengers, their clan is nursed to health and is actually functional. YIPPIE!!

except i have 2 other mirrors!!!!!!

throughout their history kestrel and fjord have tried to expand their clan and start a family but it never worked unfortunately. both were too emaciated and not adjusted to the sickly landscape they now called home. they had always been really sad about it but fjord was out scavenging one day and he was looting through some corpses to take whatever they had that they clearly didnt need anymore and he found a plague egg. clear as day, alone in the cold clutch of what he assumed to be its parent. the sight was gut-wrenching to him, and considering how badly he and kestrel had wanted children, his decision was made quickly: he would take the egg and pray that whatever was inside of it had survived whatever killed its parents.

surprise! it absolutely was and they got this girl :]

crypt!!! their adopted daughter WAHHHH !!!!

and then it gets better, they actually managed to have an egg a few years after crypt hatched

adder!!

THEY they are such a tight knit family like they were INCREDIBLY protective over both adder and crypt while they were younger, to the point where theyd bare their teeth at their own clanmates if they got too close LOL

it paid off tho cuz they both survived and have grown up and theyre. THEM AND THEIR LITTE KILL SQUAD theyre great hunters naturally as mirrors but MAN they are a force to be reckoned with. a lot of mirror packs split randomly and merge whenever so im assuming MOST those mirrors dont actually know each other. hunting with yr little family tho? they look out for each other and keep each other safe which makes them more efficient

crypt is pretty quiet and more observant which she probably gets from tarren (who both her and adder consider to be their uncle). she mixes well with the other scavengers and is agreeable, if not a little odd. she usually spends time with adder, and is the levelheaded one in their duo.

adder on the other hand is just like her mother, aggressive and snappy. she'd get into more trouble if she didnt have her family looking out for her.

they are just. THEY ARE SO SILLY I LOVE THEM SM

fjord and kestrel quickly embraced the plague flight once they abandoned the starfall isle, especially since their breed originated from underneath the wing of the plaguebringer, so it just felt natural to them. fjord found a way to apply his magic abilities, adapting them to take after the plague element. its good contrast when kestrel is a very physical fighter, they compliment each other well.

okay thats all i feel like talking about for now but i just needed to get it out cuz i love them im having a lot of fun planning this shit out

OKAY. so. been thinking about kuron(again) and the thing im just realising how ALONE he is, at least at the beggining. the people he thought of as his family fucking KILLED him, stole his body, and then basically forgot about him for YEARS. and after being ressurected- like, in the first few days, weeks, months- did kuron had ANY support? anyone to lean on?? to help him adjust to being alive again?

i know he starts to meet new people and make friends, and thats great! but. at the beggining....... lance was in a coma 'n shit, team voltron propably wasnt too enthusistic about helping kuron, and it just hit me that, at least the way i understand it(i might be wrong), he had to figure EVERYTHING out by himself

Oh god yes!!! To be honest i dont really have like a detailed idea for this part of the story like at best i have this one idea where Veronica is the first one to find him. Like in my head Veronica has been trying to track down Lance cause he ran away/didnt give the address once he moved out, isnt picking up his goddamn phone and literally dropped from the face of the earth and she cant find a trace of him. That was until apparently Lance?? 'Attacked' Shiro?? Like Shiro's fine just fainted and on bedrest and according to Curtis, Lance was saying something about "he is still in there" before apparently using Magic?? Somehow?? And taking something? From Shiro?? Yeah Veronica has no fucking clue. But a lead is a lead and she was able to track down Lance's new home only to find 1) a guy butt fuck naked coming out of a quintessence filled tub like the girl from Shining and who looks a bit like her boss. 2) her brother unconscious. She instinctly about to pull a gun on him except Kuron just slips and hits the floor, so now Veronica has two men she needs to drag to a hospital. Joy.

So like yeah Kuron's first stranger-to-acquintance-to-friend is Veronica. She neither has the history of All That™ the others have with Kuron, knows a bit about the clone situation to not be weirded out by it, but also doesnt really care about the whole Evil Clone thing™, cause i am so sorry but she has seen this man fall on his face first 5 times and counting, cry over a fridge ad that had kittens in it, and try to name himself Frank Shelley, even if he somehow becomes Evil~ Veronica is sure she can just Take him down easily, and like what is she supposed to do? Just leave him? He clearly has even less of an idea what is going on and she cant in good conscience leave him like this.

And thing is that Veronica does want to support Kuron, because he deserves that! It's the right thing to do and he deserves that! But at the start he really is a stranger to her and Lance is more of a priority to her than he is, and he is like one of the only leads that explains what is going on with Lance. And while she wont admit this but Kuron can tell and like logically He Gets That™!! He Gets That™!!! And he wants to help Lance too!! But he's also someone who is used and thrown away by everyone around him and this shit hurts like hell. Like this is a recipe of disaester for both of them and will result in a shouting match but right now Kuron is too high on pain meds and pain of being alive again to truly get into it so.

So like physically he isnt really alone in figuring this out, Veronica is trying to help him as much as she can help him, and the hospital staff she dragged him to are really nice to him as well. Emotionally......well there is effort. Vero is trying! Heck she even defended him when Shiro suggested they should lock him up cause he was a danger to everyone and is evil. She is trying but she also has her own trauma, whatever is going on with Lance, her family having separation anxiety, her job, etc etc and she can only do so much, and like Kuron is also trying but he is also dealing with so much and pushing it into the back burner and my guy is just not having great time at all. So like yeah he did had to figure out so much himself

Cheeks painted red his fingers couldn't help but twitch as his throat clogged up. Double checking himself with his phone camera he frowned. Why the actual fuck was his hair not working the day he needed it to work. He was due for what he felt like was a date in the next 3 minutes and fuck was he so nervous. You probably didn't even consider it such but Jason did.

After-all, Jason would grasp onto your 'friendly' gestures and treated it like you were absolutely infatuated with him. It was devastating and delusional, due to the fact you were probably straight. Jason was supposed to be straight, thats at least what he thought. Till he came to a realization a week ago that he sure was fucking not.

Straight people don't fantasize about holding hands and whispering poems softly into the ears of there new a-claimed friends. Every-time he read a romance novel he'd often find himself comparing you to the male lead and him to the female lead. Hell he was even looking to find novels with great gay love stories to fantasize and analyze too.

Pawing at his hair as he lost himself in his thoughts he came to realize he was slightly late. Letting out a distrained sigh, his inner corner of his brows rose with stress. He hasn't been this nervous since him and his ex- Artemis got serious.

Adjusting his shirt, he tried his best to look decent. Mostly everything in his closet was either joggers and plain shirts. Except the tailored suits for gala's, but he wasn't gonna wear a full blown suit to a simple 'date' to the mall. You had invited him to come with you to eat and then go around the mall to look for a shirt due to the fact you had a family reunion thing out of town sometime this week.

Putting his big boy pants on his headed into the mall and headed towards the food court. Looking for a place to sit he spotted a two chaired table and took a seat.

You were about 4 minutes late, feet tapping Jason picked at the skin outside of his nail while anxiety filled his chest. Lips pursing he felt like he had the biggest bitch face on.

Once those 4 minutes turned into 30 he felt like he was gonna cry or probably go be rude to bruce to cope with the fact he was probably stood up.

Sighing heavily he felt dumb, you didn't care for him much so it didn't matter to you. To him though he felt so disappointed like he always did. You were his first guy crush and you grabbed that shit by the throat. Shook it around and spit on it.

“Shit, sorry for being like so late.” Your voice entered his ears causing him to pick deeper into his skin.

Should've just drove away, its Gotham afterall. No one give's a shit about the tiny stuff.”

“Yeah you should've drove off.” ignoring the boyfriend comment he tapped his aching fingers ignoring the way it was throbbing.

“Anyways, what do you wanna eat? They have Chick-fil-a, Chinese, Mexican, burgers, hot wings and omg Korean hot dogs.” grabbing Jasons hand you stared down at his fingers and frowned softly.

“I'll pay for everything so don't worry bro.” lifting his fingertips up to your mouth you pecked them softly.

Brows furrowing inward deeper Jason tore his hand away, now you just had to be messing with him. How could you do such an intimate gesture than call him bro.

“Can I get a burger with a water, and thanks.” brushing his fingers over the hand you kissed his eyes flicked to your face.

You looked embarrassed, eye lashes blinking rapidly he saw you swallow thickly but recover your fallen expression with a smile.

Getting up from your spot you grabbed slid your keys across the table for Jason to hold than proceeded to walk off.

You felt like shit, you were definitely gonna have a slight dent in your wallet from that rim and Jason was mad at you. Maybe he was annoyed by how touchy you were or the way your voice sounded.

Twisting the rings on your finger you sighed and made it to the burger stand. Ordering Jasons usual burger combo and your own you gave your name then slid your card.

You really cared for Jason and didn't want him to leave. You adored him, platonically of course. Thats at least what you thought but you were honestly questioning because he's all you can think about sometimes.

During your day and work all you can wonder is what he's doing at that moment. You also got really fuzzy while thinking of BESTIE scenarios with him. Wait let's back track because this definitely sounds like a crush.

How the writing accidentally “protag’d” Jaune, and how to prevent a repeat in V10

Look i’ll defend Jaune every day of my life, he’s a necessary grounding force in the story, a well written tragic figure and often an important voice of reason (as a result of being one of the more grounded figures in the show) and just generally a likeable guy. He’s one of my top 5 characters in the show even. But god you can see that even the showrunners are angry at how much he’s the only character they still really “know”how to write. and the worst part is that all of the choices are individually defensible and often even the right choice for the narrative.   This readmore focusses on speculations regarding the doylist reasons behind jaune’s prominence in certain scenes, and how to make adjust their course-correction strategy to be more effective.

Like i made a post before about how S1-3 were light on characterising Team RWBY because there’s gonna be a roadtrip arc and we’ll give them their own arcs to flesh them out then. And Jaune was verry much crucial in the early game (because he’s simultaneously ruby’s foil, an audience exposition receptical and Pyrrha is going to die and as the regular “normal guy” in the show no one else is better at representing the idea of “a regular life of happiness VS a great destiny that ends in tragedy” for our Achilles paralel). Then S4 splits the party up to give us the chance to characterise Blake, Yang and Weiss with their own arcs, so you’d expect those 2 seasons to give them some depth? But now that these characters are spread across 4 seperate continents we need to set up so many new side-characters for them to interact with that we dont have the time for introspection, we need to flesh out the politics of Menagerie, introduce Fake!Spring maiden, introduce Willow and Klein and Whitley and Jaques first(?) on screen appearance, and introduce Salems other lieutenants and set up the mystery of Oscarpin.... and Oopsie thats S4 done, we didnt have the time to flesh out any of WBY. And because its hard to make Ruby mourn something as abstract as a physical location, we’ll substitute it by making her foil mourn an actual person. So S4-5 doesnt flesh out RWBY, (and strangely does little for Team Sloth, who should probably have been shown mourning Pyrrha as well) but does flesh out Jaune a bit more. (which tbh, is justifiable, he’s the OG exposition-hearer and we’re about to enter the part of the plot where none of our protagonists know whats going on. Being “the guy who doesnt know stuff” isnt a schtick they can maintain for the guy anymore so we need to give him a new thing to do and “grief” is a good-enough thing for now). But at least WBY can have their own arcs to flesh themselves out right? only this is where the writers realise, we cant resolve or explore Yangs issues with Raven too deeply, because the Raven issues are inseperable from the “fate of Summer” mystery so they leave that on a half-resolution.

Weiss runs away from home, but that doesnt deepen her because “doesnt want to be with Jaques” was one of her first known traits. but at least we know she’s got a brother (who is in like one scene) a butler and moms alcoholism. Which leaves us in Menagerie, where we get some nice exploration of Blakes loving parents, but this arc doesnt really deepen out what makes her tick because Adam isnt in this arc and it turns out that: No Blake does not actually have some deep-seated reason to join the fang, she was just sort of born into it. which sort of waters her motivations down from “freedomfighter trying to achieve justice in a cruel and unjust world” to “Inherited the family business”. (and while “family legacy” is a big thing in RWBY, what with Ruby, Weiss and Jaune all being motivated by that specific thing, there are no other characters in the Menagerie arc that can contrast/foil/emphasise this part of her character so this new reveal about Blakes core motivations is a bit mellow). So after S5, the showrunners look over their charactersheets and realise “dammit, Jaune is currently the most well-defined character?” and they do the first thing they can think of: They eject Jaune from the plot ASAP. They cut the train in two so we can finally have some time with just RWBY and give them a little arc and some characterisation... And someone in the writers room piped up and said “wait, isnt the traincrash the only part we can really justify making Ozpin drop the lamp” and suddenly the “reaching Ansel safely”arc becomes the “Salem’s basic motivations and Ozpin cant be trusted” arc. so instead of “characterising RWBY” we get Ozposition and Salem backstory. But at least we get to see the heroes react to the revelation that Ozpin is full of it right? Well sort of, because while we do get a Qrow Lashing Out scene, Maria pipes in and reminds them “we’re allready holding the lamp, dont get emotional right now we cant afford a second grimm-magnet in this undefensible wilderness position”. (which yeah, fair point i guess she’s making a valid point but also, bad for the writing) And while you’d expect “our mentor cant be trusted” to be the perfect inciting incident for some character introspection, our next destination is the Brunswick farm, where the apathy lives. Now i love the apathy as a concept, and its a well written mini-arc. But whichever writer thought it was a good idea to follow the “our heroes are at the perfect moment for some real character-drama” up with a monster with the power to make characters behave in manners they normally would not behave, needs to surrender their christmass bonus. Like i get that you could argue they’re trying to go for “monster as analogy” but if you want to deepen out the characters here you really want the characters to respond to the issue in different, specific ways that flesh them out as individuals. but instead they are all forced into the same emotional state, which serves only to homogonise RWBY and make them less distinctive and identifiable. So the apathy cuts out our first real opportunity for some RWBY together-in-crisis exploration, but we fix the bike and make our way to Jaune’s Sisters Place for a second “ozpins full of shit” reveal, except this time to characters who arent going to be forced into non-response by Maria/Magic Apathy, and OOPS we just gave JNR the characterbeat that RWBY should’ve had. This is also when someone in the writers room (justifiably) pipes up: “wait, this is our last stop before we leave Mistral isnt it, and we’re not coming back to Mistral ever again afterwards right?”, and someone else answers yes, and the first guy responds “why did our 3 seasons in Pyrrha’s home-place never once make us meet her grieving family again?” and the second guy palms their face and said “allright you’ve got a point” and we get the Pyrrha Statue Scene. Which moves Jaune from “actively seeking death” to “Willing to postpone his his Suicinder until there’s no one left to mourn him”  We kill Adam while the plot prevents Weiss from ever seeing the weight of her family’s sins (yet again) as S6 comes to an end, and despite the writers taking active precautions to prevent it from happening, they’ve once again managed to flesh out Jaune without truly exploring the shows namesake team... And we get to S7, and they do the sensible thing and once again write Jaune out of the story by making him a traffic-cop who will not be involved in any plots or sub-plots for a while. But, We also brought back Penny, This is Watts’ only arc as a villain so we need to make him ominous and let him have his screentime, and we want to be interesting and make this arc Villain VS Villain with Ironwood VS Salem so the heroes wont actually get to interact with any of the antagonists for this plotline, allthewhile introducing Clover and the Aceops, setting up the Spear of Damocles and the Huntresses. So the heroes just spend a lot of time doing small fetch-quests that dont connect to anything too significant as the show tries to set the stage for S8. Also, this is our fourth? concecutive story about learning not to follow authorities blindly (Lionheart, Ozpin, Cordovin, Ironwood) so the show really struggles to sell the heroes trust in Ironwood when he introduces “operation world-wide grim-insurgence”. So a lot of this story-arc sort of falls flat as we spend most of S7 figuring out that, yeah the guy wanting to create a worldwide grimm-insurgence is probably not entirely morally right to do so. So S7 doesnt end up fleshing out anyone but perhaps Ren’s taste in bootleather, as it’s too busy setting up and fleshing out the villains to spend time on our heroes. Weiss does get to interact with her family though to flesh her out more. But the “confronting my asshole dad” thing is short and strangely low-stakes. (We havent seen verry much of Weiss’ homelife even during the V4 bit she was at home, and weiss has been largely sheltered from his “corporate crimes”, never getting to be in any scene that hints or adresses those victimised by the SDC. As a result his arrest at her hands lacks an emotional punch) S7 ends with Qrow broken, clovers death and Ironwood’s villain reveal as well as Penny as the Winter Maiden. S7 was so weak on characterisation for the main-cast, and semi-removed lessons learned in the last 3 seasons to a point where Jaune being largely absent ends up largely shielding him from the “did no one learn their lesson” feeling that permeates S7. And then we get to S8. S8 is still largely Villain VS villain, with our heroes forced to fight logistics of food-supplies and evactuations instead of dealing with any antagonistic force until Ironwood threatens the MantleBomb. This is also our last chance to characterise Penny. We get a little bit of “weiss loves her family” and Yang pining for Blake in the snowfields. But all the plotbeats go to Oscar, Emerald, Penny and the villains again until the team decides to use the spear, S8 is also largely a nothingburger for RWBYJNR is what im saying. Until the climax that is, where we dont get much in the form of characterisation beyond “the ones on the bridge grieve the fallen” but then Penny makes the sacrifice play, And Jaune screams. Now i understand why it couldnt be RWBY members to do the stab, (WBY have no real relation to penny and are already established as the sort-of-pragmatic castmembers who, while not happy wouldnt really “struggle” too much and Ruby needs to maintain her “innocence” for marketability purposes) so obviously Jaune was the only real option because as Ruby’s foil and with Penny being a maiden “ladykiller” has a sort-of second-hand connection to her. but goddamn could the show let the main four do SOMETHING important already without cutting away from their responding emotions for once? Then we get S9,   the show realises again that it needs to get rid of jaune because they’ve overused him again, creates a Jaune-free window for the characters to interact in again but wastes it’s chance again as it focusses on setting up new characters and building the setting and mystery for this new story-arc. Again. So according to some basic patern recognition: when we enter V10, expect Jaune to disapear from the story for the first half-season as the writers will, once again try to give the rest of the cast the spotlight back, only for exposition and worldbuilding to steal said spotlight from the cast anyway. Then when the plot kicks off and its “all hands on deck” Jaune will return to the plot because All Hands includes his healing hands, and that means that Jaune gets to once again be absent for the boring logistics of the narrative, and present for the characterisation bits. so now that we have identified root of the shows current problem, how would I fix it? I’d suggest moving the “Jaune free” plot-zone back a bit. Instead of putting it at the start of the vacuo arc, move it back to the early mid-point. Hell make him extremely prominent during the “boring worldbuilding” phase of our Vacuo arc. Then his dissapearence from the plot the inciting incident for the mid-point of the arc. Put him in prison/coma/other state of not-in-the-show for a bit and make Jaune’s Absence one of the things the rest of the cast can react and emote to/about. For example: Tyrian shows up, Tries to stab someone, Jaune interposes himself and turns out oops thats a poison and jaune slips into a coma. (no jaunes aura did not heal him from Alyx’ poison, the paperpleasers did cause they’re literal magic) How does Ruby respond to possibly losing her First Friend, especially now that she’s already lost her second friend (sorry weiss, but you werent a “friend” until after penny, pre penny you were an aquantence at best) How does Yang respond to Ruby’s response, does she go back to Momsis mode? How does Weiss respond to the guy who saved her life at Haven? How do ReNora respond to losing the last thing that seperated Team Sloth from JNPR being gone, possibly forever if they dont get the antidote from [Medical lab] Does Oscar become the new leader of OREN? (pronounced Orange) just, dont only remove Jaune from the setup, remove him from the actual plot next season.

So Ive taken it upon myself to redesign a character bc yknow, i feel like some areas of the design could be improved! Though i managed to forget the fact that I am INCREDIBLY indesicive. And its even worse bc this little guy, Fluff, is basically a main character so like.. his design needs to be PERFECT. So naturally ive been a tiny bit of a perfectionist and umm.. things are going some where! Where exactly? I dont know lol!

So for context he originally looked like this

Which I really love this design! I think the color palette is neat. So i was like.. Yknow what? Ill revamp his outfit! Maybe.. tweak the hoodie? Give him a bit more chaos? Hes supposed to be a small mischievious trickster. A goofy lil guy up to no good!

So I then proceeded to make several new designs... Which are, admittably, just made color differences. Yes its like a spot the difference but TRUST me there are differences.

Then Im like "Yknow what, I actually like these! All I have to do now is choose the one I like the most." I made a slight adjustment to the color palette but otherwise it was the same and i felt like it worked really well. A bit of a more complex outfit but overall the same energy as before. So you may be thinking... "Ah great you settled on a design?" WELL..

Earlier today I sort of had this epiphany that I didnt like the color palette. Well actually i really like the color palette, but not exactly for Fluff. Plus I really wanted to give him a rainbow of colors, like a ball pit. Bc yknow, thats his whole schtick. He lives in a ball pit, he turns people into balls etc etc. And I wasnt really getting that from any of the redesigns... SO I ATTEMPTED TO REDESIGN HIM! for like the 4th or 5th time (or 6th or 7th if we are including previous versions of him)

I eventually came up with this. The left being the first concept and the right being a cleaned up version.

I like this design a LOT bc of all the color it has! I think it also manages to feel balanced, which can be hard to obtain with a lot of different colors in a design. Plus I just think hes adorable with a vest and suspenders. Theres only one tiny problem..

Okay girls this is 🤰anon and I need some advice badly. So I feel like you all know my baby daddy has been like completely uninvolved this whole time and wanted nothing to do with me since I told him I was pregnant. But like I've still (probably stupidly) been sending him updates and ultrasound pictures and stuff just bc I've wanted to give him the opportunity to change his mind I guess. I didnt want him to have made a hasty decision at the beginning bc he was freaked out and then completely shut him out bc of that, I've wanted to keep the door open so he knows he can still be involved if he ever wants to be. Well he's literally never answered any of the texts I've sent him this whole time but I let him know I was going to the hospital the other day and he actually texted me back the next morning???? And asked if everything was okay and if the baby was here???? And I told him no it was just a false alarm and he thanked me for letting him know and said he was worried about us 😭😭😭 and we just like texted for a really long time and he apologized for not being there this whole time and said he was just terrified and unprepared but he said when he found out I could actually be having the baby soon something changed and he realized he didn't want to miss out. So ofc I was like extremely wary bc we literally have had zero contact in the last 7 months and now all of a sudden he's like talking about wanting to be in the room when she's born and asking if he can help buy anything for her or come to my next doctor's appointment or my birthing class and it's all just so much at once 😭 like I'm used to doing this alone and was fully prepared to give birth and parent by myself and have been getting myself ready for that this whole time and now it's like everything has changed for me as well and I'm gonna have to think about another person's wishes for my child??? And like obviously I was hoping he would come around and that's why I kept extending an olive branch even when he never answered but now I'm like do I immediately let him back in and let him participate in everything he wants to be a part of now or do I keep him at arm's length and have us slowly adjust to this in these last few weeks of pregnancy and first few weeks of her life?

well the fun just doesnt stop! the speeding ticket i got where the person in the picture is wearing a mask apparently is undeniably me and the ticket isnt dismissed so like i guess im out of fucking options and the police dont actually need evidence to give me this ticket if they want to so that means i get to spend probably around 230 on traffic school before the end of next month. and i made really great decisions this weekend which yes i take full responsibility for so im dead broke again and have my moms birthday coming up and would like to do the bare fucking minimum for her but that of course costs money and seeing her itself means im missing two days of making money and it costs a tank of gas to see her which is ridiculous. im probably going to have to ask my brother if its okay if im short on my rent giving the reasoning that i would normally ask mom for a loan and i obviously dont want to ask her that on her fucking birthday so im thinking hell understand but then i have another bill right after i would get back from my mom so if i dont make enough money before going up there im going to once again be scrambling to pay this bill while owing my brother money and then the weekend after my moms bday its one of my best friends bday the one who her birthday is sooooooooooooo fucking important to her and im just like dude i cant get you shit i cant help out with your party at all im not even sure i can sacrifice yet another two nights of not working to celebrate with you for 48 hours like i know you want. like im sure she would understand like its not within my total control here obviously i would love to have tons of money and like idk she can be upset sure but at the same time im struggling here lol. oh and to top it all off this is the first time ive hung out with my best friend alone in like 4 months and we were having such a great fun night although making really bad decisions and having great talks all fucking night and THEN GUESS WHAT he got fucking weird again and its like well great can i even spend time alone with my best fucking friend without him making me uncomfortable like do i have to question this friendship now because i guess he actually really did completely end things with his ex so what am i suddenly after all our years of friendship now for some reason on his radar??? does he just want to fool around or is he like trying shit with me? doesnt matter cause i dont fucking want any of that shit im genuinely not to be rude i see him as a family member at this point and im not in the slightest bit sexually attracted to someone i see as family like sorry. i guess it could be worse tho! i found 140 in my savings in another account so the fact that i didnt work saturday or sunday cause i was too fucking strung out was a little less severe. also technology popped off a bit with my lost card when i ordered a replacement it said that the ‘card’ on my phone will immediately update so i can access my main account without having to get a temp card so one less errand. and while i had a little bit of money the other week i did buy a little bit of groceries so i have been able to make it by not eating out since friday so woo. i went out earlier and stayed out a little later working tonight and did get a good amount of money. some gas stations are 40 cents cheaper for some reason although i didnt see those until after i filled up today so cool for tomorrow tho we know. ughhhhh im wondering if the constant stress of not having money is better than the constant stress of hating 9 hours of my day at a shitty job getting yelled at by random cunts im trying to help its really weighing on me! like i could just be making a lot of bad decisions thats probably the obvious detail here lol but damn its like it never ends. ugh lets be extra extra responsible for some time here and adjust

okay.

i experienced binge eating for the first time, and god, it was scary. i realised a day later that that probably means im going through diet burnout. i took a few days off where i didnt track, and i feel much better. i ate freely without guilt - it was great.

now, i have a strict regimen to follow because i want to make heads turn when i get back to school. it's november 30, and i weigh a maximum of 57.5kg. i want to be 50kg by the time 2023 comes around so that's 7.5kg to lose.

im going on holiday where i will probably walk an average of 7km+ a day, and of course, i will exercise as much as i have time to - a minimum of 30 minutes of strength training a day. ill deal with pilates, plyometrics, and mobility exercises, later when i get back. i will not restrict myself from eating what i want, but rather i will minimise my portions completely. i will only try or share food new to me, and eat one meal and one snack (breakfast) a day.

i wont be able to weigh myself there, so i need to follow this regimen to the t. once i get back, i will continue exercising - hopefully more improvement focused - and eating only dinner and breakfast. stay heavy on the hydration, like extremely heavy. it's all you're consuming basically.

once january 1 rolls around, you have to slowly start moving back to three meals a day - but adjust yourself accordingly. i only want to lose the weight. i dont want to ruin my metabolism (or life) and i want to keep eating intuitively. the most important thing is that i trust myself throughout this process, and remember why im doing this.

losing weight is a huge part of it, but its not the whole glow-up. skin? hair? personality? reputation (academic and character-wise)? sports and athletics? extra-curriculars?

heres a bit of a lore dump regarding the “mechanics” of spells and potions in tcwg, and what i mean when i talk about how mochi needs ingredients to create spells and potions!! i think of it like an rpg cuz it helps me figure out how magic works here

- everything in the world has some inherent powers or “magic properties,” so when you combine them it creates different spells and effects, and this is what the witches refer to as “ingredients”

- a witch is given magic, and is a magical creature that is able to draw out the properties from within the ingredients

- in order for a witch to use a spell at will, they have to first brew the spell using the correct ingredients in a cauldron. after its made the first time, think of it as being “unlocked” or “added to the magic inventory” - the witch can use it whenever she needs. when its created, it is “absorbed” into the witch!! theres a process to this, and if youre not careful the spell will be backfired and placed on the witch for a short time (like the lovebites), but absorbed nontheless

- if its made anytime after this, the brew can be put in bottles/jars/containers as a potion - most refer to it as “magic in a bottle.” these can frankly be used by anyone who can get their hands on it, including non-witches and humans so witches have to be careful about it

- some spells are harder to handle/use than others. think of it as a witch having a set stamina amount, and using spells uses up that stamina!! some spells drain more than others. because of this, KNOWING a spell doesnt necessarily mean you can use it yet, as you might not be strong enough to take it yet

- potions are a one-time use and have 3 different types: the kind you drink, the kind you smash, and the kind you drip. drinkable potions generally have a similar but lesser effect if it simply comes into contact with your skin. smashable potions are more for AoE attacks, small range around the user, and dripping potions are especially potent and is usually applied to large areas (like a big body of water or a grassy plain). these are harder to use in combat cuz they take longer to take effect!!

- witches also create their own spells with unique ingredients, and record them down in spellbooks for future generations!! these are the books that mochi is always reading and studying!! she spends her free time making these spells so she has a bigger range of magic to use

- mochi also makes her own spells!! but after thousands of years of magic, all the practical, cool, and useful spells have already been made. most are learned/brewed/absorbed within the first week of being a witch so you have all the cool magic basics down. everything after that is very niche, rarely used in most situations, obscure, and straight up useless.

- the first week or two of spells is cool things: the energy/magic weapons, floating spell, summoning spell, the kinds of cool things you typically think of doing if you had magic!! the longer you make spells, the more you get into “spell that turns all left socks into right socks,” “spell that makes someone bleed out of their eyeballs but its harmless i swear,” “spell that (temporarily) clears all ink from the paper in a room* (*see note: about 5 mins, then they return)” that kind of useless junk!!

- and mochi is no exception. her only noteworthy spell right now is something like “spell that removes all crinkles from foil food wrap” or something. theyre running out of ideas, we give them a break.

- so mochi is always looking for new spellbooks that end up in old bookstores, or in a dumpster, or a yardsale, cuz you never know what kind of spells they have in there and hey, its useful to have everything down just in case.

- making a new spell is a lot of trial and error, you put in different ingredients, sometimes it ends up as something someone already made. even the smallest difference, like adding 2.20 ml of brisk iced tea instead of 2.19 can result in a different spell. if its one you didnt know yet, cool add it to the list. if you knew it already, cool its just another potion. if it works out that no one used that combination yet, great!! you just made a new spell that can clean the headlights of cars!! or something

- (i know its hard to keep track and statistically every combination would eventually be used but for convenience sake lets not think about that and keep it simple)

- its worth noting that its not necessary to keep track of EVERY spell you ever learned!! when using it, you dont need to recite the exact title and memorize who wrote it, where it came from, etc. its more about being able to use whatever comes to your mind when you need it!!

- a lot of the “core” spells are also flexible. a shield spell doesnt just make one type of shield, its fairly dynamic that the witch can use her magic to adjust it to how she wants after she made the original spell, and even modify it once they already know it into a way they like!!
