@aroace-get-out-of-my-face
More of this, it seems. I just can’t get this AU out of my head, and every single post I see that includes Darlene gets dust in my eyes. Weird, right?
Anyway, here’s a brief meeting I imagined between Crampelter and Ford in the aftermath of Darlene’s death.
———
Stanford hadn’t believed it when they told him Crampelter had joined the resistance. But here he is, training for the inevitable war. Ford watches as he throws spear after spear through moving targets with unnerving accuracy. Bullseyes every time.
He would’ve eaten them all alive if he’d been in the arena.
Crampelter grabs another spear from the rack. Just as he draws it back to throw, he meets Ford’s eyes. He blinks once, then lowers the weapon.
“Stanford.” He greets cautiously. “I heard you were around here somewhere.”
Ford doesn’t respond, only glaring at his childhood bully. He bites his tongue to keep himself from asking whatever happened to calling him a six fingered freak? Are they on a first name basis now? Why did no one tell him? Instead of any of that he stays silent. Crampelter seems to take that as an invitation to continue. He fiddles with his spear almost nervously.
“I…saw what your brother did in the games. For Darlene. I’m glad-”
“It should've been you.” Ford interrupts harshly. He doesn’t want to hear Crampelter say he was glad that Stan was in that death arena so he could comfort a little girl in her dying moments. “Stan would still be here if you’d done what you said you would. And so would she. It was supposed to be you. It should’ve been you.”
Crampelter pauses. He glances down at the spear in his hand, as if considering the words. Without warning, he turns sharply and chucks it full force into the training dummy, knocking it off its stand and pinning to the back wall ten feet behind. He straightens, tilting his head as if admiring the shot.
“Yeah. Maybe it should’ve. But she would’ve died either way. Whether I won my games or not she would’ve volunteered later. They would’ve been proud to watch her die. Or proud to watch the boy die. That’s why they do two tributes, isn’t it? Every district has to lose, even if they win.”
Ford blinks, temporarily taken aback. He wouldn’t have anticipated such musings from Crampelter, even though he must have been allowed to join up for a reason. Ford had voiced his suspicion when he first heard Crampelter was here, but the higher ups had seemed certain he wasn’t some kind of spy. It doesn’t change anything. Ford lets his eyes harden again. “Why?” He demands. “Why did you back out?”
Crampelter must’ve been expecting the question. He simply shrugs. “It wasn’t worth dying for.”
Figures. It’s about the answer Ford had expected. All the same, it fills him with rage. He throws up his hands. “And you realized that then? Seriously?” He snarls. “Every day of our lives you swore you were gonna win some day. You used everyone in that damn district as target practice. Darlene looked up to you. She volunteered because of you.”
That clearly strikes a nerve, as something pained flickers in his face. Ford keeps pushing.
“You’re not a coward because you didn’t volunteer for the games, Crampelter. You’re a coward for everything that came before. You’re a coward for taking that long to notice it was all bullshit. You could’ve seen it before then. You just didn’t want to because being a future victor gave you the imaginary right to treat everyone around you like shit. Including Stan, who did what you didn’t have the guts to do. You spat on him every day of our lives, but he is stronger than you ever were. And now everyone knows it.”
Crampelter barely seems to be listening, looking past Ford at the dummy embedded in the wall. “I would’ve volunteered for her, if I could.”
“Well you couldn’t.” Ford says, forcing every bit of blame he can into the words. It feels good to blame someone who’s right here. Someone he can spit directly in the face of. “And now she’s dead.”
Crampelters eyes snap to his. There’s a ghost of that familiar grief in his eyes. He looks like Shermie when he gets that look. Shermie, who had already started grieving his youngest brother. Who begged Stan to fight when they said their goodbyes, but walked out of there knowing that he wouldn’t. The comparison makes Ford uncomfortable. Laid atop the achingly familiar grief in Crampelters eyes is the familiar fire that everyone thought would win him the games someday. What a joke that was. Ford glares right back at it, until Crampelter turns away. “I’ll be sorry when Stan dies.” He says casually. “We both know he doesn’t have it in him to win, and he’s not likely to hold out long enough for this little rescue mission of yours. I figured I’d tell you that I’m grateful for what he did, since neither of us will ever see him again.”
Without another word, he turns to walk away, not bothering to retrieve the spear or the dummy. Ford watches him leave, glaring at his retreating figure until he turns the corner. Ford huffs out a breath once he disappears, before turning around and heading back to the lab. He’s not worth the energy it would take to argue with him. Crampelter doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Not about that, anyway.
They're so close. Stan is gonna hold on just a little bit longer, and Ford is not gonna lose his brother.

[Excerpt from So Much (for) Stardust - Isaac Lahey x Fem!Reader - COMING SOON]
I'm in a winter mood,
Dreaming of spring now.
Burning myself down,
Burning myself down - burning.
You were having a beautiful picnic with Isaac under the stars. The two of you were in the middle of the lacrosse field - something you had done before, like when you had celebrated one of his first wins on the Beacon Hills lacrosse team after he had made First Line.
“Ooh, looks like this is the last one,” Isaac sighed, reaching into the bag of mini donuts that he had gotten for the two of you - clearly, he intended to eat it without sharing.
“You can’t just take the last one!” You argued, giggling lightly. “Fight me for it.” You posed, holding up your thumb in a position that he knew meant you were proposing a Thumb War.
“You better be prepared to lose!” He declared playfully, reaching out and interlocking his fingers with yours, beginning to ‘battle’ against your thumb without even counting down first.
“It’s not fair!” You chuckled, still racing to keep up with him. “You didn’t say ‘go’! You didn’t-!”
You let out a gasp as Isaac used the hold on your hand to pull you on top of him - he was now splayed out on his back on the picnic blanket, staring up at you with nothing but pure affection in his eyes.
“Does that mean I win?” He posed, interlocking his fingers with yours in an utterly romantic way, the stupid little contest now completely forgotten about.
Well - almost completely.
“Well, I think you’re sitting on my donut, so I’m not even sure if it matters,” You giggled.
“Your donut?” He replied, raising his brows accusingly.
You let out another bright laugh and leaned down to kiss him, loving the firm, familiar feeling of his lips on your own.
You were soon distracted away from this peace by a scream.
“Help!”
It was a familiar voice.
“Please, someone help me! Help me!”
When your head whipped up, away from Isaac, you were met with an utterly horrifying sight. Lydia was stumbling across the darkness of the lacrosse field, her face was knit with pure, undistilled fear, her hands shaking as she clutched at her bleeding stomach. The usually small area was bloated open by injury, ripped apart so violently that she struggled to hold it together, flesh and viscera fighting to get out through her fingertips, easily dying the blush pink fabric of her dress a bright, horrible red.
“Lydia?!” You called back.
You didn’t hesitate to leave Isaac, getting up and running across the lacrosse field. Just before you made it to her, she collapsed, and you made up the last of the distance by falling yourself, sliding to her on your knees the same way that someone would slide toward home plate in a game of baseball. Though this situation was much more desperate - this was no game, this was life or death.
“Help me,” She begged, that horrible terror still knit across her face as she looked up at you. “Help me, please.”
You looked down to her stomach, shocked by just how bad it was - wondering how she was alive, wondering how she had even been able to walk with seemingly half her guts spilling out of her. You ripped off your sweater and pinned it to the wound, desperately trying to hold everything inside - trying to hold her together.
“Isaac, call 9-1-1!”
You screamed, hoping that he could hear you, hoping that he wasn’t far behind you. When you didn’t get a response, you pitched your chin over your shoulder, still tightly holding your hands to Lydia’s gaping wound, desperately searching for him.
The lacrosse field was empty. Isaac was gone. But the emptiness seemed to carry over to everything - the picnic blanket, your belongings, even the bleachers were somehow mysteriously missing.
“Isaac?!”
When you turned your head back - Lydia was missing too.
“Wh-what?”
The only evidence left that she had ever been there was her blood still warm on your hands.
You were on your knees - shaking, confused, scared.
When you looked up - there was the tree. The tall, thick tree with sprawling branches and thick, lucious brush. And as you stared into the darkness, it became glowing with intense, rich, living orange flames - flames that were not meant to destroy, but in fact - to provide life.
“What is going on?!” You screamed, tears of hot frustration flowing down your face. “What do you want with me?!”
‘Quod vetus est, iterum novum est.’
A voice spoke from nowhere - and you quickly realized that it was this tall, imposing, impossible, flaming tree that was speaking to you.
‘Amator cum lupo resurgit.’
The voice was deep and godly, otherworldly, drilling into your skull in a way that was nearly painful.
‘Ignis aeternus aeternum ardet.’
Then, you were hit by a burst of flames - something so all-consuming that felt like pure electricity charging through you.
You woke up with a gasp, sweat sticky on your skin, tears pouring down your face. You looked around frantically in the darkness, completely thrown off by your surroundings, and it took you a moment too long to realize that you were in Stiles’s living room.
...

GUYS HEAR ME OUT hunger games au with caleb except it all goes downhill from the moment you get reaped for the games
this is such a random post help no because peeta in mockingjay i was like this is so caleb with ever ehhehddh here are just some thoughts :)

caleb, who has to be stopped from volunteering to go into the games alongside you when your name is reaped. in your district, it was almost certainly a death sentence, but at that moment he thinks he would rather die by your side, than live without you.
caleb, who makes you promise him that you will make it back to him. he can’t lose you, not like this. there are too many things unspoken between you, lost to the wind as he watches the train pull away from your district.
caleb, who can’t tear his eyes from the screen for even a single moment as he watches the clock count down. underneath his breath, he’s whispering for you to run — far away from what he knows is an inevitable bloodbath. he holds the necklace you gave him close to his heart, and prays he does not see you amongst the fallen.
caleb, who continues to watch the games closely at every waking minute, utterly unmoving from his spot. it’s as if he took his eyes off you, you would die. he grieves with you, when you are forced to take the life of an ally — but a part of him is relieved, you’re one person closer to victory.
but the path to victory is no easy road. you’re down to the final four — but you’re no extraordinary person, only having made it this far out of sheer luck, and you know you cannot beat any of the remaining three tributes in a fight. caleb thinks, you’re going to need a miracle.
you have only your brains to work with — so you pull a stunt. you take the gamble, and luck just happened to be on your side. you’ve definitely pissed off the capitol though, made them look like fools on live television. they had always craved a bloodied showdown, to showcase the true animalistic nature of the districts. but in that moment you didn’t care, except that you would be going home.
caleb, who finally lets go of the breath he had been holding, when they announce you the victor of the hunger games.
caleb, who is the first person to greet you the moment you step off the train back in your district. there’s no words left that needed to be spoken — you had kissed him right then and there. because everything you had done, was to get back to him.
but you are not able to celebrate for long. the fires of rebellion have been on the rise for the past years, and you’ve all but fanned the flames in your defiant little stunt.
caleb, whose very life is threatened, when the president pays you a visit — to fix what you have started. for the sake of the nation, and all the lives you value. you would not be quick to forget who truly holds all the power in this world.
caleb, who suggests running away with you. somewhere safe, where not a single soul could touch you. he paints a picture of a life found in fairytales and you can only laugh hopelessly — for such a place does not exist in this world. nowhere is safe from the capitol’s grasp, and you would forever have a target upon your back.
because when war descends, you stand with everything to lose. you are yet a lucky survivor again, in the bombed remains of your district, but it is only the beginning of the atrocities the capitol will commit — to destroy you, and everyone else among this rebellion.
they take caleb, pull his dying body from the wreckage before you can, leaving you with nothing but the necklace you had given to him all those years ago. and they’ll kill him over and over, until all you have left is only a memory of him.
you see his face on the grainy television screen back at the base, amongst the war propaganda spread by the capitol. you want to be relieved that he’s alive, but something’s changed. the eyes that stare at you through the screen are so empty, like an abyss that threatens to swallow you whole.
but caleb, who despite everything, holds out for you. his torturers continue to chip away at what remains of his memory and sanity — he’s long forgotten his own birthday, the feeling of the sun against his skin, but he hasn’t forgotten you. not ever. they wouldn’t take you from him again. he makes you his sole fixation.
caleb, who is finally rescued at last — except he is nothing like the caleb you once knew.

WICKED GAMES
paring: paige x black fem!reader synopsis: after being drafted number one pick, paige is under pressure to prove herself and save a failing relationship. then, she sees you. warning(s): cheating (sorta kinda), angst, fingering, edging word count: 5.1k
a/n: i absolutely hate ts im only posting cause i promised my oomfs that i would post this tonight 😭 it’s supposed to be inspired by wicked games by the weeknd but i feel like i started losing the plot… also lets pretend that paige isn’t a lightweight cause i know her ass would be gone off the shots she took in this LMAOOO
PART ONE | PART TWO
paige wasn't quite sure how she ended up downtown in dallas. one second she was staring up at the ceiling in her silent apartment, the next she was behind the wheel driving down the highway. the city lights illuminated the road, blurring past almost as if she was running from something. but maybe she was.
she should've been in the gym, putting up shots until her arms gave out, trying to excuse the mess of a game she had last night. or maybe she should've been at home, working through the silence with her girlfriend— if you could even still call her that. it used to be sweet late-night texts and dinner dates. now it was just unanswered texts and empty kisses.
paige wasn't oblivious. she knew she hasn't been the easiest to love during her transition from college basketball to the league. but being a rookie meant pressure she couldn't explain and expectations that she was dying to reach. she was either too focused or not focused enough. too distant or too clingy.
a text lit up on her car screen as she rolled to a slow stop at the red light.
lys: yooo. you still pulling up?
paige let out a quiet breath, one hand on the wheel, the other raking through her hair. she didn’t even know why she said yes to nalyssa inviting her out tonight. maybe because it was easier than explaining why she didn’t feel like being around anyone.
she turned down a narrow side street and spotted the club her teammate had mentioned. its neon sign was buzzing, half the letters flickering on and off like they couldn’t commit either.
p: yeah im bout to park
she hit send without thinking, backing into one of the last open spots in the lot. the engine cut off and everything got quiet. too quiet.
she sat there for a second, staring out the windshield, watching a group of girls laugh their way out of an uber, heels clicking against the concrete. smiling like they didn't have the weight of a record-breaking season or a deteriorating relationship on their shoulders.
then paige opened the door and stepped out.
she kept her head down and eyes on the cracked pavement. she kept it moving until she reached the bouncer who stood outside the door.
the bouncer nodded his head, signaling for her to go ahead inside. it wasn't too crowded inside, so she was able to spot nalyssa near the back, already with a drink in her hand.
“took you long enough,” nalyssa called over the music, reaching for her hand.
paige shrugged, letting herself be pulled in. she wasn’t here to catch up or make friends.
she needed a drink.
and if she was being honest with herself— she probably needed to get laid.
but she shoved the thought down as she trailed behind nalyssa, weaving through bodies until they reached the section tucked near the back. vip, of course, but not too flashy. just enough to feel separate from the ongoing chaos.
everyone in the section was already settled in laughing, posted up with half-empty glasses, even a joint being passed between a few people. as nalyssa introduced her to the table, paige offered a lazy nod and a half-assed smile but didn’t stop moving until she dropped into the open seat beside the low table.
nalysssa settled next to dijonai, getting back into a previous conversation, but paige tuned them out.
instead, she reached for the closest shot without even knowing what was in it and drank it.
tequila.
she welcomed the burn in her chest.
a second shot followed, much smoother this time. the edges around her thoughts began to blur by the time she took a third one. one of nalyssa's friends, who she had fallen into an easy conversation with since she arrived nudged her hand in her face, offering the half-finished blunt. paige declined with a shake of her head.
"you good?" nalyssa cuts in as dijonai orders more drinks for the table. "over there looking all mean n'shit."
paige cracked a smile, the liquor finally starting to settle in her system. her shoulders were eased and her jaw was unclenched for the first time tonight. she wasn't drunk, just tipsy enough to relax. "i'm chillin'."
nalyssa gave her a look, half amused, half knowing. "didn't you say things were fucked up with you and your girl? i was wondering why you ain't bring her."
she leaned back, her eyes scanning the room instead as she responded passively.
"yeah, i'm not dealing with her bullshit tonight."
and truth was, part of paige did want to work it out with cassidy.
deep, deep down, the part that still lived off of the memories of them cuddled up on the bed watching the white lotus and the late-night sex still kept her hoping for a change.
but the other part? it was tired. tired of the bending and explanations. tired of feeling like she had to choose between being great and being enough for someone else.
cassidy never understood. she said she did, but her actions spoke otherwise. every time paige missed a call, came home late, or chose the gym over a dinner date, it became another argument.
you've changed.
you never make time for me anymore.
but maybe cassidy was the one who changed. she loved the idea of paige but not the reality of what it took to be her.
paige blinked, suddenly aware of the drink in her hand again. nalyssa was rambling on about the tough patch she and dijonai went through, trying to offer some advice. paige nodded here and there, more so focused on her own surroundings than her friend's words.
someone was dancing on the table across the room. another girl was crying in the corner, visibly arguing with a man who was too drunk to care. and as nalyssa made another comment, paige couldn't help but completely drown it out as she laid eyes on another woman who was walking past the table.
paige couldn't see her face. she didn't need to.
she walked with confidence and a sight sway to her hips, immediately captivating the blonde.
she wore a black lace dress that left little to the imagination. it was thin and sheer, clinging to her body like it was made for it. underneath, paige could see the outline of her black thong through the see-through floral lace, every detail intentional.
she walked to the section beside them with her back still facing paige as excitedly hugging a few people who were already seated as if she hadn't seen them in years. her dress fit around her curves deliciously and paige caught herself staring a bit too long at the woman's ass as she bent over.
nalyssa couldn't help but notice the lack of attention from paige at this point and she caught on immediately, following paige's gaze until her own eyes landed on the woman.
nalyssa leaned in, nudging paige's arm. "damn, paige. you all in her shit."
paige rolled her eyes as she reached for her glass again, trying to shake it off.
"shut up." paige took a sip of her drink, swallowing it down hard.
paige always considered herself a loyal person, especially when it came to romantic relationships. she didn’t entertain attention she didn’t plan to return.
but then again…
were she and cassidy even in a relationship anymore?
the last time they spoke face to face, it ended in a slammed door and another argument that started over nothing. cassidy stormed off after mentioning staying with her friends for a while. and that was five days ago. neither of them had called. neither of them had tried.
so what did that say?
but all that blurred the second she laid eyes on her, the woman now sitting just a few feet away like temptation itself dressed in all black lace.
her head tilted back mid-laugh, hand resting effortlessly at her waist, the other flicking a cascade of curls over her shoulder. even from the side, she looked unreal.
that small gesture exposed the curve of her neck, a sharp jawline, and a tattoo that started at the base of her neck and disappeared beneath thin black straps. she could make out some writing and a few flowers with leaves, and lines trailing down into the fabric.
she shifted in her seat, jaw tightening, trying not to stare, but failing miserably. she was definitely the most beautiful woman she's ever seen.
“listen, man,” nalyssa said, setting her drink down and turning to face paige fully. “i’m not tryna be the villain here, but let’s stop pretending. from everything you’ve been tellin’ me these past few weeks… you and cassidy ain’t had nothing going on for a minute.”
paige didn’t say anything. just stared down at the melting ice in her glass.
nalyssa kept going, softer now. “this is exactly why i dragged your stubborn ass out tonight. you need to stop holding on to something that’s not holding you back. cassidy doesn’t get it, and to be honest? i’m not even sure she’s trying to.”
paige sighed through her nose, the weight of it all pressing against her ribs. part of her wanted to argue and defend the pieces of the relationship that still felt familiar. but the words never came.
because nalyssa was right and that realization sat heavy in her chest.
“i just…” paige started. “i don’t know how to let go without feeling guilty.”
“nah,” nalyssa said quickly. “you're staying in something that ain’t feeding you and you need to let that shit go. don't feel guilty for choosing yourself for once."
paige leaned back, her hand rubbing over her face as she took in nalyssa's words, internalizing them.
she peeked over again, searching for the now familiar head of curls. she was still there. talking with another woman who held a phone to her face.
then, finally, the woman glanced over. almost as if something in the air had shifted, like she felt the weight of paige watching her.
her eyes landed on paige instantly and she felt it in her chest. her face was stunning in a way paige couldn't even describe.
her eyes were dark, almond-shaped, framed by baby doll lashes that fluttered softly.
her curls spilled down the sides of her face perfectly like they knew exactly where to fall. it framed her like a portrait in a gallery. like something you weren’t supposed to touch, only admire. the lights hit her just right, casting a warm glow over her skin. rich. soft. paige wondered what that skin would feel like under her fingertips.
paige didn't want to look away, but the woman had broke eye contact first.
she watched as the woman leaned over, saying a few words to the person next to her before she stood up, making her way toward the bar.
paige dragged her fingers across the rim of her glass, still watching.
then she stood up, slowly.
nalyssa raised an eyebrow. “oh shit.”
“i’m just saying hi,” paige said, but the smirk pulling at her lips betrayed her.
nalyssa leaned back with a knowing grin. “uh huh. you better hi the hell outta her.”
paige didn’t look back as she stepped out of their section.
—
“yo,” zoe leaned in and nudged your arm, eyes glinting with curiosity. “that white girl been starin’ at you all night.”
you raised an eyebrow, unfazed but intrigued. “who?”
zoe gave a slight tilt of her head, chin pointed toward the section next to yours.
you turned, eyes scanning the group who were all laughing and drinking, tucked comfortably into their booth. then her eyes locked onto her.
a blonde woman, legs slightly spread, sipping slowly from a glass like she had nowhere to be. she was talking to the light brown-haired girl next to her, nodding along, but her focus wasn’t all the way there. you could tell.
you eyed the white cropped jacket hugging her frame, the black fitted shirt underneath that exposed her abs. her hair was slicked back into a clean, low bun. the studs in her ears caught the glow from the club lights every time she shifted.
you wouldn't deny the fact that she was attractive, or your exact type. but you didn't come here tonight to get laid, so you turned away and towards zoe with a dismissive shrug.
yet, zoe was still squinting her eyes at her. "she don't look familiar to you?"
you shook her head before taking a sip of your drink. "nah, not really. but it's dallas, everybody know everybody here."
zoe clapped her hands together and pointed to you in sudden realization. "dallas! she plays for the dallas wings. that's paige bueckers."
your expression didn't shift. "who?"
zoe rolled her eyes and reached for her phone, opening up instagram and typing in paige's name in the search. she practically shoved the phone in your face. “girl, what? she plays ball. in the league. she's a rookie but been hyped up since high school. she got mad game, i’ll give her that.”
tapping zoe’s screen, your eyes narrowing slightly at the profile pulled up in front of you. paige had it all: blue check, millions of followers, highlight reels, magazine features, the whole deal.
you blinked, a little caught off guard by the level of attention the girl commanded. you expected maybe a couple hundred thousand followers, not a whole fanbase.
"that woman is fine as fuck," zoe said, pulling her phone back down to her side and locking the screen. "if you don't get you some of that... i will."
you knew zoe was joking, but part of you was curious. curious enough to wonder what exactly it was that pulled a basketball star’s attention your way.
you took another slow sip of your drink, then glanced back toward paige, expecting her to still be deep in conversation with her friend.
but she wasn’t.
no thoughts.
just eyes.
locked directly on you.
you froze for half a second, not visibly, but enough to feel it.
zoe was right— paige was insanely gorgeous. her gaze felt like she wasn't just looking, but studying you.
you tried to play it cool, kept your posture relaxed, head slightly tilted like you weren't phased. but with every second paige kept that gaze locked, you felt something shift.
a slow heat settling low in your stomach, crawling up your spine.
you needed another fucking drink.
you turned away from paige's table, nudging zoe, who was deep in conversation with one of your friends, laughing like she didn’t have a care in the world.
“imma hit the bar. you want anything?”
zoe shook her head, barely missing a beat. “nah, i’m good.”
you slid out of your seat and excused yourself to the rest of the group before heading toward the bar. you didn’t bother looking back, but you felt paige looking at you still.
you walked a little slower than usual, with just enough sway in your hips to make it worth watching. if paige wanted a show, you were more than happy to give her one.
once you reached the bar, one of the bartenders gave you a quick nod, mouthing 'give me a sec' as he tended to a row of customers.
fine. you had time.
you slipped onto one of the empty stools, crossing your legs, letting your fingers trail along the edge of the bar. you took a slow breath, just settling into the wait.
then, you felt it.
a presence right next to you. you didn’t even have to look to know who occupied the space.
but you did anyway. and you didn't wait for her to speak first.
"you gon' keep staring at me all night or what?"
you turned your head, chin tilted up due to the height difference. there she stood with her mouth curved into an easy smile and one elbow resting on the edge of the bar. you noticed a chain that hung from her neck in the process.
she looked good. as hell.
but you wouldn't verbally admit that. you weren't going to stroke her ego.
“i’m just tryna figure out how to say hi without gettin’ curved.”
your head titled slightly, eyes skating across paige’s face, still deciding if she was worth the time.
“so this is you being shy?”
“nah,” paige said, shaking her head once. “this is me being respectful. you had a whole section, friends, vibe going on. i wasn’t tryna interrupt all that.”
"what changed?"
paige licked her lips, her eyes drifting for a second, just enough time to gather the words. then they locked back onto yours, more focused now.
“i did,” she said simply, offering no explanation.
you didn’t respond right away. just let the silence breathe as you thought to yourself.
you weren't naïve, you knew paige wanted you. had known from the second your eyes met. but what surprised you was how paige wanted you.
there was no flash. no ego. no embarrassing attempt to impress you. she didn’t lead with status or money or weak one liners. she came over with intention and left her pride at the door.
and that made you slightly more interested than you already were.
paige, sensing the silence stretching just a little too long, leaned forward slightly, her voice warm.
“i’m paige, by the way.”
she extended her hand steadily, no pressure behind it. you looked at it for a second, then took it, her fingers cool against your palm.
you introduced yourself, but before either of you could say anything else, the bartender stepped in.
“i apologize about the wait. you ladies need anything?”
you turned slightly, letting your hand fall from paige's loose grip before reaching for your purse. “yeah, i’ll take a paloma.”
your fingers were halfway to your wallet when paige quietly pulled a card from the back of her phone case and handed it over without hesitation.
“i got it,” she said, eyes still on you. her gaze drifted, lingering on the swell of your chest. the way your top exposed just enough to tempt.
she let her eyes trace every curve like she was memorizing it. and when her eyes finally came back up to yours, there was no apology in them.
you swallowed hard, muttering out a 'thank you'.
being this close to paige was fucking with your head. you hadn’t even planned on leaving with anyone tonight, but the way paige looked at you had you feeling something you had been neglected of for a long time.
not just lust, but craved. wanted. seen.
you liked it.
but then reality creeped in. you thought back to your conversation with zoe: paige bueckers, money, wealth, headlines, women.
you had her fair share of one night stands in the past, but never with a celebrity, a basketball star at that.
and that was the problem.
you didn’t want to be a quick fuck in some sweaty club bathroom that got sent off with a quick nod and a 'take care', or worse, plastered on some messy instagram page that lived off exposing celebrity's private shit.
if you were gonna give paige your time— your body, it had to mean something.
paige leaned in slightly, her voice low and teasing. "and don't think i didn't notice that shit you pulled when you walked over here either."
you didn't flinch, but shifted your body toward paige, your knees brushing. the contact sent a spark up your spine.
your lips curled into a knowing smile.
“well... it worked, didn’t it?”
she let a beat of silence pass between the two of you, her eyes never shying away from yours.
"how long you wanna play this game?"
“depends,” you said with a shrug.
“i’m not tryna be just some quick fuck to you,” you said bluntly. “i'm not like these other groupies in dallas, and i’m definitely not easy.”
paige nodded, slow and sure. "good. i don't want easy."
"what? got bored of fucking every girl who threw themselves at you since you got to dallas?" you retorted.
paige didn't say anything, only chuckling in response. she
the bartender placed your drink on the bar with a clink, but it barely registered. your focus stayed locked on paige, who took a step closer. close enough for her body to brush yours, close enough for her scent to trickle into your throat.
her hand moved up without warning, thumb and index finger catching your chin, tilting your head up. not rough, but firm.
your body tensed on instinct, not in fear, but from how fast the atmosphere shifted around you.
“you think i came over here just to fuck you and dip?” she asked. “if that was all i wanted, i’d be long gone by now.”
your breath caught, chest rising slower. everything around you— the people laughing and conversing, the bass thumping through the floor— blurred into noise.
your voice came quieter than intended. “so you’re saying you don’t wanna fuck me?”
paige’s jaw flexed at that. she let out a slow breath, something close to a laugh, but nothing was humorous.
"oh, i definitely want to," paige confessed. her fingers moved just barely. the edge of her thumb brushed along your jaw like she was trying to memorize it. "you've been driving me fucking insane since i saw you and you know that shit."
you did.
and you definitely lied to her earlier. you were easy as fuck... at least when it came to her.
your thighs squeezed together under the bar in a weak attempt to calm the pressure building between them. it was borderline unbearable and you wondered if she could tell. if she knew how deep she had you already with one simple touch.
but before you could speak, she continued on.
"i just don't want to fuck you here. you're worth way more than some back of the club quickie." she said, her eyes flickering down to your plump lips. "besides, if im gonna fuck you, i need you stretched out somewhere clean and comfortable. preferably my bed."
the thought of paige having you stretched out made your mouth go dry. paige didn't move or touch you anywhere else, but it felt like she had you pinned. you absolutely hated it. you couldn't let her get you so easily.
"so what? you think 'cause you got money n'shit that i wanna fuck you too?" you said, gently pushing her hand away from your face.
"you talk a lot of shit, you know?" paige's lips curved into a smirk. "especially for someone who's been clenching their thighs every five seconds."
"oh, please," you scoffed, hating the fact that she was absolutely right. "fuck you."
you turned your body towards the bar and grabbed your drink, taking a much needed sip.
"tell me to leave and i will." paige said, her voice still sending shivers down your spine. "but don't sit here and act like you don't want me, ma."
you stared at the glass in front of you like it had answers. the buzz from the alcohol did nothing to help the burning desire for the woman next to you. you didn't want to give her the satisfaction, but you also didn't want her to leave either.
you turned, "if i didn't want you, you would know. trust."
paige paused. her mouth parted like she had something to say, but nothing came out.
instead, she bit her bottom lip like she needed to keep it together or else she'd end up dragging you out the club right then and there.
“finish your drink,” she said firmly. it looked like she was holding herself together by a thread.
you looked at her for a second, before obliging. you calmly took your glass and knocked it back with one clean sip, setting it back down without breaking eye contact.
"you drive here?" paige asked, pulling her keys from her pocket.
you shook your head.
"good. let's go." she didn't wait for a reply, just turned and started walking like she knew you'd follow.
and you did.
you glanced over to your friend's table to find zoe already looking at you with a knowing smirk. she made a humping gesture and you were quick to flip her off before catching up to the blonde woman in front of you.
it was about midnight now and the air was chillier than it was when you arrived. but you welcomed it, it relieved your flushed skin.
paige finally looked back once you were both out of the building, her eyes looking you over under the glowing neon club sign.
"you good?"
it was like she was asking if you were still in. wondering if you were going to start second guessing.
but you made up your mind.
"yeah," you said. "you?"
she nodded, biting her bottom lip before she started walking. "i'm parked around the corner."
it wasn't long before you two made it to her car. she led you to her passenger side, opening the door for you, and watched as you stepped in.
she then got in herself from the drivers side and started the car, driving off.
the ride was quiet. not in an awkward way, but dangerously quiet. the radio was a whisper and somehow during the first two minutes of the ride, paige's right hand had made its way to your thigh. you wanted to squirm. you knew she was doing it on purpose too.
but you tried to play it off anyway. your eyes stayed glued to the road, trying to distract yourself by reading random billboard signs that passed by. but your body betrayed you. again.
you leaned towards the window, quickly pressed the button down, and let the fresh cool air wash over your hot skin. but it wasn't enough to settle you.
paige glanced over, "you okay?"
"mhm," you hummed, shutting your eyes as your head rested against the door. "it's just really hot."
you could hear paige pause briefly before chuckling. "it's 65 degrees in here."
you didn't respond, just silently prayed for the ride to end before her hand slipped any further between your legs. but of course, paige, sensing your overwhelming discomfort, slipped her hand even further.
her movements were slow, tempting, almost as if she was waiting on you to stop her. but the slit in your dress and your slightly parted thighs gave her access to swipe her finger against your clothed clit.
“paige,” you warned, cracking your eyes open.
she wasn’t looking at you. her eyes locked on the road with her bottom lip caught between her teeth like she was holding back a laugh or a moan, you couldn’t tell which.
“hm?” she murmured lazily. her middle finger dragged along the edge of your thong, toying with the fabric like she had all the time in the world. “no more shit to say?”
and then she pushed it aside.
you were undeniably wet it was nearly humiliating. you had been since the moment she sized you up at the bar like she already had you bent over in her mind. but with the cold air kissing your exposed pussy, there was no more hiding it.
yet still, still, she refused to touch your clit. instead, she rested them on the inside of your thigh calmly. you couldn't help but notice she was driving slow as fuck too— at least ten under, like she wanted you to suffer.
you clenched your fists in frustration. "i'm not the only one who's running their mouth. you say you want me, but you haven't done shit to me all night."
she let out a short laugh, finally glancing over to you for a brief second. "yeah?"
her next move was sudden. before you could even process anything, you felt her slide her fingers inside of you, smooth and deep. your breath hitched as your thighs instantly widened to make more space for her.
a hand instantly flew to the passenger side door with a smack, blindly searching for anything solid to grip onto as she slowly curled her finger against your g-spot.
a sharp, helpless moan left your lips.
"say something else," paige said, her voice laced with grit.
you tried. you really did.
the beginning of a 'fuck you' was on the tip of your tongue, but the words died in your throat the second her middle finger circled your clit with precision, the pressure just right. you choked back a moan.
"drippin' all over my seat and i barely even touched you tonight," she murmured, almost mockingly, like she was pitying you. "look at you, ma."
you caught a glimpse of yourself in the blind spot mirror. the wind picked up, making your curls wildly stick to your face as your chest rose and fell in deep pulls. your lips were parted, legs trembling,
she kept her rhythm painfully slow. each time she pressed her knuckles deep inside you, she pulled back too soon, leaving you clenching around nothing but air. you were soaked. your arousal dripped down your thighs and coated her fingers.
"shhh... you hear that?" paige lowly, almost like she was holding back a moan. she dragged her fingers out slowly, making your pussy squelch shamefully.
you only nodded against the headrest. the feeling of an orgasm brewed deep in your gut as your hips moved on their own, chasing after the high she was refusing you.
"paige..." you gasped, voice cracking as your dragged out the last syllable.
then her palm brushed against your clit and you cried out, sharp and needy.
your hand shot down, fingers wrapping tight around her wrist, forcing her palm back onto your throbbing clit.
and she let you.
"you wanna cum for me, baby?"
you nodded your head, eyes fluttering shut. your legs were trembling against her leather seats as she slightly picked up her speed, curling her long fingers up into you
"shit, paige," your moan was desperate and breathless. "just like that."
your orgasm was right there, sitting heavy in your stomach, just a few seconds away.
until paige suddenly retracted her hand. completely.
your body jerked at the sudden loss, your orgasm snatched right from under you. you snapped open your eyes to catch paige licking the thick coat of slick that was on her fingers like it was left over candy residue.
you groaned in disbelief, reaching over to smack her arm. "are you fucking serious?"
she finished sucking the last of it off before plastering a lazy smile on her face. "deadass."
you stared at her, breath still ragged and your pussy still exposed, clenching around nothing yet again. you closed your legs together, cringing at the discomfort.
paige rolled to a complete stop at a red light before turning over to you, meeting your eyes. her hand found your thigh again, giving it a soft squeeze.
"don't worry, baby. we're almost there."

Hi! I bring you this final part! Thank you for your support, readings and love.🤎
N/A: I have pending orders and I hope to complete them as soon as possible. I will upload one of them this afternoon. Thanks for your support!!
PAPARAZZI
Hwang In-ho x reader
Part 1 // Part 2 // Part 3
Summary: A private detective that Gi-hun had hired to investigate those games he participated in three years ago, is taken against her will without knowing that a certain man with power and money knew absolutely every detail about her.
Warning: Blood, violence, kidnapping and some romance, I was listening to Lady Gaga's Bad Romance while writing this, sorry not sorry
Note: This would be the last part, if were to resume it I would do so when the third season comes out, thank you for your love!
The plan to escape through the ventilation ducts would be carried out that night, after playing the third game.
"Players, the third game is about to begin, everyone is asked to wake up and prepare" the female robotic voice spoke from the speaker.
The girl smiled as she saw that the piece of metal had in his hands had finally taken the shape that would be quite useful to her.
—I did it... —Her murmur with a radiant smile.
—¿You did what? —001 asked, approaching her with curiosity, as if he hadn't heard anything of the conversation she had with 388 during the night.
—The key to get out of here —She said proudly, showing off the piece of metal.
In-ho put on a confused expression, but deep down he was more than fascinated and intrigued, as well as anxious for night to come and for her to execute the "escape."
—Trust me, we will get out of here.
He gave her a silent smile.
As they left the room to be taken to the next game, In-ho stayed behind to talk to one of the guards with the triangle symbol. —455 will try to escape tonight through the ventilation ducts, keep an eye on her and make sure she doesn't, then she'll be taken out of the game, ¿understood?
—Yes sir —replied, giving a brief reference, then he left to catch up with the group.
The next game would be called "mingle" and it was for groups.
The game consisted of grouping up every time the robotic voice said the number of players that had to get together and take one of the small rooms that were scattered around the place, the platform would spin before this so you are probably a little dizzy.
—If the number is more than six, we'll take the other players —Gi-hun said.
—¿What if the number is less than six? —Dae-ho asked with some uncertainty.
—We're split up, but we mustn't lose our patience— Young-il said seriously. —You two try not to get away from us —added looking at Jun-hee and the girl, who both nodded.
When the platform began to spin and the children's song started to play, the tension in the atmosphere was present, once again the girl was afraid of dying so inevitably her hands trembled, In-ho noticed this and without thinking much he took one of her hands with his.
—Trust me, we'll get out of here —He repeated the same words she had told him, making her smile.
The first stop was ten, that was easy, they met up with another group of four with players 120, 007, 149 and 097
The second was four, In-ho never let go of the girl's hand. —You four go, we two will look for others —He stated confidently.
She felt pretty safe with him so she didn't refuse, once again it was easy to find another partner and get to a room on time.
The third was three participants per room, once again it was simple, the girl was Gi-hun and Young-il but when they were dividing she was knocked down by another player.
In-ho opened his eyes searching for her in the crowd as Gi-hun called out to her but seeing that the timer was about to end they had no choice but to run and carry player 149 who was standing alone in the middle of all the chaos.
Meanwhile, the girl was stunned, looking for someone to go with to save her life when suddenly someone arrived and practically pulled her by the arm with brute force straight into a room. When the timer came to an end, she saw both players.
—Thank you very much.
Player 333 nodded, taking deep breaths.
She would remember him number, he had practically saved her life and she would make sure to do the same once she managed to get out of there for help.
Coming out of the cubicles, the first thing In-ho did was look for her with his eyes and when he saw her coming towards them, a sigh of relief left his lips, a reaction he never thought would have in a long time.
It felt strange to feel the anguish of another person's life again, especially that of a girl he knew as well as the back of his hand but hadn't spent enough time with, it was as if she had gotten into his head and heart without him realizing it.
When least expected it, he was already hugging her.
—Sorry for letting go of your hand.
—I'm fine... —The girl sighed, gladly receiving the gesture —He saved me —She added turning to see 333 who was a short distance away, watching them in silence.
He didn't care who had done it, he was just grateful that she was still there, although his triangle team had orders not to kill her, it was impossible to deny the immense concern he felt.
Finally, teams of two had to be formed, the participants fought to survive and this time, In-ho made sure not to lose the girl at his side.
In-ho grabbed a man who was about to enter the empty cubicle and pushed him back, allowing her to pass through, but she froze when she saw another player there.
—Get out —Young-il demanded firmly, staring at the man.
But seeing that the player refused, he rushed towards him, the girl stayed at the door preventing anyone else from entering.
When the timer was coming to an end, the only sound of a 'crack' reached the young woman's ears, she turned around in fear, but when she saw Young-il alive sighed and dropped to the ground tiredly.
She didn't judge him, her knew that humans naturally attacked when felt in danger.
[...]
The third vote had concluded, the circles and crosses had been tied so the elections would be repeated the following day.
But she couldn't bear another day, these games changed people, she saw it in Young-il and her didn't want someone good to get his hands dirty like that again.
Or at least that was the image she had of the man.
She couldn't stop watching him intently as chatted with Gi-hun, he was a gentleman, kind and sociable man but seeing him in that cubicle killing a man by breaking his neck in one move to save them both made her heart beat like never before.
She was fascinated by riddles and had a hunch that this man was one that needed to be solved. She didn't know, but her intuition told that Young-il was a poker face.
But for now, her needed to execute his plan.
She got up from where was and walked to the bathroom, there were only a couple of hours left until nightfall and she didn't want to walk around that island in the dark.
—Oh no, she's going to do it —Dae-ho muttered nervously as he watched her walk away.
—¿What is she going to do? —Gi-hun asked.
—Will try to escape and go for help.
The group looked at her with concern as she entered the bathroom and the two guards continued to guard the entrance.
She walked over to the toilet, pulled down the lid and stood on it to reach where the vent was, using the deformed piece of metal to remove the screws.
A proud smile formed on her lips as she was able to remove the lid and push herself up with his feet to begin climbing through the duct. ¿Could this be a dream? Judging by the fresh air she perceived in his nose these ducts would lead her to an exit to the outside.
But before she could declare victory and move forward faster, she felt two hands grab her by the ankles and pull back, back to his nightmare.
—¡No! ¡Please no! —She screamed, digging her nails into the metal of the duct as if that would stop, but she only managed to hurt own fingers a little.
When the guard with the triangle mask had her in hin arms and held tightly, she hit him in the stomach with his elbow to free herself.
She ran to the bathroom door to get out of there but as soon as touched the handle she was shot in the leg causing to fall and scream in pain.
Her scream mixed with the gunshot caught the attention of the players outside, it caught In-ho's attention, they weren't supposed to shoot her.
Meanwhile inside the bathroom she was bleeding and crying in pain and fear, she believed that this was end but another guard entered the bathroom and stuck a needle in her neck forcing her to fall into the subconscious.
"Player 455, eliminated" said the robotic voice over the speaker, leaving her fellow players bewildered and sad.
Gi-hun stood up and walked towards the guard guarding the bathroom and shouted angrily, followed by In-ho.
—¿What did you do to her? She wasn't playing! ¡You killed her!
The triangle raised his gun and pointed it at him to get to back off.
—She tried to escape and that will not be tolerated.
—¡That's not fair! You're only eliminated if you lose one of these games —Young-il yelled at them, putting on a little drama show just enough for the guards to get him out of there too so could see the girl.
When the doors opened and more guards entered carrying a black box with a huge pink bow through the door In-ho paled, he had given a specific order, it was just to take her out of the games, not kill her.
—¡You killed her! —he shouted at them this time a little more excitedly as watched the triangles take the girl out of the bathroom and place her in the box to later close it —¡These weren't the rules! ¡I demand to see your leader!
The guard nodded and asked him to follow him, once out of sight of the other players In-ho glared at his worker waiting for an explanation.
—She's alive, just sedated, we thought this was the best way to get her out without raising suspicion.
The feeling he had a few moments ago was like torture but also a small flash in his dark heart, after so long he had not felt such a whirlwind of emotions since his wife.
[...]
In him golden room, in the middle of the bed, the girl rested, with a bandage on her leg and wearing more comfortable clothes, a white blouse and grey pants.
The front man walked through the door and sighed at the sight of her there, leaving the gun he had used against the guard who dared to shoot her disobeying his orders on the table by the entrance and walking cautiously towards her.
He knew was breaking the rules by taking her out of there but he couldn't let her die, she had made him feel so many things again in such a short time that it was terrifying to a certain extent.
With his hand he moved a couple of strands of hair away from her face.
The girl gently opened her eyes and seeing a masked stranger near her, she tensed up because was still a little dazed to react otherwise.
—Calm down —he said under the mask with the voice modifier —I won't hurt you, we already fixed your wound and you'll be fully conscious in a few hours.
—You... you are... the front man... —She said trying to clear her mind and focus his vision.
—¿How much do you know about me? —He asked curiously, sitting on the edge of the bed without stopping to observe her under the mask.
—I know as much about you as you know about me... —She smiled at him with a hint of arrogance —You sent your employees to follow me for a while... They're not as stealthy as you thought.
He smiled under the mask, he knew for sure that she was intelligent, she was extremely afraid of death but had strategies and a brain to know when being stalked.
—¿Do you want to take off your mask?... I want to know if right about something.
—¿About what?
—You’re Young-il —that took him by surprise —¿Or should I say In-ho? You’re a man of many riddles.
He took off the mask, not just physically, he was also going to let her enter his soul.
—¿Since when did you find out?
—Oh not as quickly as I would have liked, I figured it out now that you sat up in bed.
From him posture, carefree and passive, and the way he stroked her hair, she deduced that he was someone who had already had contact with her.
Moreover, she had read a long history about the front man, the man in front of her was more than just that, more than just a cold-blooded assassin and leader who controlled these games, he was now showing his more "Young-il" side.
—¿Like Sherlock Holmes? —In-ho asked, half amused and half curious.
—That's my job... —She sighed tiredly, closing her eyes again.
They both knew they had many things to talk about and clarify but now was not the time, she longed for some peace and rest and he had to return to the games or he would raise suspicions.
They had a pending conversation but first, In-ho had to put an end to all this and put everything back in its respective place, after all, the girl was no longer in the crossfire, with her safely in him room, it was time to act.
N/A: This is the last part! Maybe I'll pick it up again when the third season comes out, I wanted to do something like Joe and Love only without the killer and crazy stuff.

꩜ [ 1.2k words ]
you, jun-hee, and dae-ho stood on the leisurely rotating platform. gi-hun and jung-bae stood not too far away, looking around the room in the same wary manner. you were in the early parts of a game called mingle.
it was described as a game where players had to group up and enter rooms following a predetermined number. if the players didn’t make it into the rooms in time, or if the room had fewer or more players than necessary, they’d be eliminated.
the most childish music ever played as you stood, hand gripping dae-ho’s arm in a way that would’ve been painful if not for the adrenaline running through both your veins.
the platform stopped abruptly, and the lights turned off for a brief moment before they started flashing purple and pink.
the first number that was called out was ten. you were in a group of six, and the entirety of them looked around frantically, needing to find the four people to complete your group.
“how many are you?” gi-hun asked a woman, hyun-ju you believed her name was.
“four,” she responded quickly.
“that makes us ten.” jung-bae added.
you all darted toward room 44, the green door. you made it in with one second left, mere moments before the latch would’ve clicked and left all of you to die.
you stood in a corner, gripping dae-ho’s once again with such intensity. you saw gi-hun peek out the rectangle-shaped slit in the door before the sounds of gunfire filled the room. you made the safe assumption that anyone who didn’t make it into the room in time was eliminated, which was being shot to death.
“hey.” dae-ho whispered in your ear.
you glanced up to see your boyfriend looking down at you with an affectionate look in his eyes. something as small as basic eye contact with him calmed your entire body. you felt the tension leave your shoulders as you allowed yourself to take a deep breath.
it felt odd to find yourself relaxed in such a strenuous environment as the one you are in now, but maybe it was just the effect that your boyfriend had on you.
“just stick with me, okay? i got you.”
“okay. thank you, dae-ho.”
each person stood in the room, taking a moment to catch their breath before going out to the death game you all knew you couldn’t avoid. it would be another number called, and you’d have to scramble to find a certain number of people once again.
the door unlocked with a click, and you found yourself standing next to dae-ho on the rotating platform once again.
as the first round, the platform stopped, the lights turned off for a fleeting moment, and then they began flashing obnoxiously.
the next number that was called out was four, and you were in a group of six. you couldn’t risk any of your friends dying, so you quickly made a move to leave the group.
“i’ll go.” young-il spoke.
“i’ll go with you,” you said without hesitation. you wanted dae-ho and jun-hee to survive more than anything, even if it meant putting your own life on the line.
you made a move to leave before dae-ho gripped your forearm. “no, you can’t go. i can’t risk losing you.”
your eyes watered, causing your vision to blur, and you felt the burn in your nose. you didn’t want to lose your boyfriend either, but what else could you do? all you had to do was find two other people and you and young-il would be safe for another round.
“i love you dae-ho, so, so much. but i have to go, and i have to go quick.” you gave him a fleeting kiss before grabbing young-il and running to the nearest participants you could find.
you heard his screams of protest, but you had no choice but to leave. there was only twenty seconds on the clock, and you’d be damned if you let yourself die on the second round of this godforsaken game.
you quickly found two people who stood and dragged them into the nearest room, with young-il close behind.
you made it into the room with only two seconds left on the clock, and the latch clicked, as it did the first round.
you stood in the constricted room for a drawn-out moment before the latch clicked again, and you all filed out of the room and onto the platform once again.
the rest of the rounds felt like a blur. with screaming, rapidly moving bodies, and the near-blinding flashing lights, you were unable to locate dae-ho.
you deeply regretted leaving your group, and most importantly, your boyfriend. but you wouldn’t be able to live with yourself if any one of your friends died because you tried to be so selfless.
you tried not to panic as your heart beat rapidly and your hands sweated tremendously. you felt a sudden, intense wave of fear as you stood on the platform with young-il for the last round.
“have you seen dae-ho?” you looked up at the man beside you, a buoyant tone in your voice.
“i’m afraid i haven’t. but i’m sure he’s alright.” he comforted you, placing a heavy hand on your shoulder.
you inhaled slowly through your nose, knowing that young-il was most likely right. your ex-marine of a boyfriend could survive grouping up and going into rooms, right?
the platform clunked, the lights turned off, and they flashed as before. the number was two, and it couldn’t be more perfect for you and young-il. he grabbed your arm, and the both of you ran to the first space you laid eyes on.
for the last time, the lock was unlatched and you were allowed to leave. you finished the third game, and you’d made it out alive.
you walked out among the crimson blood and lifeless bodies littered on the ground. you shuddered as you navigated your way through the room, and your body was wracked with tremors.
you walked next to young-il, making pace in getting back into the main room. your eyes scanned the room rapidly, looking for the man you left in the middle of the game.
suddenly, you felt warm arms tightening around your waist. your boyfriend found you before you could find him.
“i found you,” he whispered in your ear, voice husky.
you instantly turned around, your hands finding purchase around his neck. you had been so worried about losing him, and it felt surreal to have him standing right in front of you.
you felt like you would never see him again, like he’d die just because you decided to leave the group to avoid causing chaos between them.
“hi. i was so scared i was gonna lose you.” his mouth was right next to yours, yet the proximity didn’t feel like nearly enough,
“never. i’m here. please don’t ever leave me like that again.”
“okay, dae-ho. i’ll stay with you. i promise.” you intended to keep your promise; you intended to never leave him again.
you had finally found your boyfriend again, amid the death games. you were wrapped in your lover's embrace, and you never wanted to leave again.

wicked game

summary: you try to seduce the unpopular virgin to win a bet with your stepbrother. your stepbrother wants to sleep with you and you want his car. but the virgin guy has more to offer... pairing: loser virgin!haechan x popular girl!reader genre: angst, romance, smut, high school setting warnings: the bet trope my beloved, manipulative stepbrother!jeno, ex-boyfriend!mark, innapropriate groping in school, one non-consensual cheek kiss, past man-eater y/n, lowkey corruption kink, lots of kissing, handjob, blowjob, eating out, attachment issues, protected sex (unbelievable), classmates to lovers, non-consensual photo-taking, breakfast in bed, break-up, no pain no gain author's note: this is loosely based on the movie Cruel Intentions minus the dying part; disclaimer: this is a work of fiction, i don't actually think Jeno is an A-hole, i just needed such a character for the sake of the plot word count: 3.7k
You're bored. Being the most popular, prettiest and richest girl in high school is not enough to satisfy your greed. Boys are literally throwing themselves at you in every corner. It's almost too easy. You want a challenge. Something to make the last year of school a memorable one. Something fun.
So, when your stepbrother Jeno presents you with an idea, you accept it eagerly.
"If you're so bored, why don't I propose a bet?"
"What kind of a bet?" you eye him curiously.
"See that guy Haechan? I heard he's a virgin and saving himself for his one ~true love~. How fucking pathetic is that?"
"So? What is it to me?" you scoff, though you already have a feeling where this is going.
"If you manage to seduce that fucking loser, I'll give you my Jaguar."
"Oh, that's very tempting," you smirk. "And if I don't?"
"Then, you'll sleep with me," Jeno whispers in your ear.
"Ew, as if. You're my brother," you make a gagging motion.
"Stepbrother," Jeno points out.
"Still, it's gross," you shake your head.
"Are you scared you'll lose?" Jeno sticks his tongue out.
"I haven't agreed to the bet yet," you answer.
But Jeno knows you too well. You are already thinking of ways to ruin that poor boy Haechan.
You approach him that same day, sitting on the empty seat on his desk. Asking him to do homework together...
"Why would I want to spend time with you?" Haechan spits out.
Ouch. Little one is too feisty for a regular loser. This might be more interesting than you initially thought.
"Why not? If you hang out with me, people will think you're cool," you try to attack where you believe it'll sting.
"So? Popularity isn't everything, you know?" Haechan rolls his eyes. "Besides, people who peak in high school spend the rest of their lives leading a mediocre, non-satisfying existence."
Damn. Pretty harsh. You didn't anticipate this would be so difficult. Oh well, all the more motivation to try harder.
"You admit it, then? That I'm at my peak right now," you smile flirtatiously, running a finger across his face.
"It doesn't matter to me where you think you are," Haechan glares at you, grabbing your finger and removing it from his skin. "As long as you get out of my face."
Gee, so aggressive.
"Did I ever do something to you?"
"No, but you messed with my best friend Mark's head. Leading him to believe you cared for him and then ditching him is so not cool. Now, piss off," Haechan grunts angrily.
You don't even remember half of the names of the guys you slept with. But you do remember Mark. He was really sweet. And if you could feel something at all, it would have been guilt. But back when you were with Mark, your mother had just announced she's getting re-married to Jeno's father. So, you were angry at everyone and everything. And you took it all out on Mark.
"Well, I can't change the past, so don't blame me without knowing the circumstances."
"It doesn't matter anyway. Mark found a girl much better than you who's treating him right."
"What about you? Got someone special taking care of you?" you touch him again, this time more forward and shameless, trying to elicit a reaction out of him. Sneaking your hand underneath the desk and caressing him fondly.
"It's n-none of your b-business," Haechan stammers but he doesn't remove your hand this time. Oh, he's so touch-starved this is going to be a lot of fun. For you.
"I could take care of you, you know? Turn all your wildest dreams into reality."
"I know what you are," Haechan shakes his head.
"A vampire!" you gasp in mock surprise.
"Ha-ha, very funny," Haechan fakes a smile. "You're a man-eater. You fuck around with guys and then you leave them to rot. I want nothing to do with you."
"Really? Then, why haven't you removed my hand yet?" you remind him, though perhaps you shouldn't have.
Haechan grabs your wrist, pushing you away firmly.
"You're wrong, you know," you try to convince him of your sincerity. "I'm just as eager to find someone who loves me. Someone worth staying for."
"And what, you expect me to believe that someone is me?" Haechan stares at you sceptically.
"Let's find out, shall we?" you give him a quick kiss on the cheek before he can escape.
And then, you let him be. Enough torture for day one.
You start interacting with Haechan every day. During the first month, you are consumed with thoughts of Jeno's bet. The abominable idea of sleeping with your stepbrother is enough to keep you going. Of course, you know he's not gonna force you into it. But you need the motivation to not lose the bet anyway. The gorgeous car is also pretty seductive.
During the second month, you are consumed with thoughts of Haechan. You begin to realize how lovely, clever and funny he is. And the fact he's even letting you spend time with him is enough to make you happy. You're no longer bored. Because everyday you have something fun to look forward to. You spend time at the school library, doing homework together, occasionally sending memes to each other. You go on little walks and picnics at the park. You even go to the cinema a couple of times, bonding over your shared love for horror movies.
During the third month, the miracle happens. Haechan decides he trusts you enough to invite you over to his place one evening. He even makes the point of notifying you that his parents aren't home. What does he mean by that? Is this an opportunity for you to finally seduce him?
Naturally, you don't get much homework done, before Haechan starts kissing you out of nowhere. You kiss him back eagerly.
"W-what are you doing?" you ask as you notice Haechan has started unbuttoning his jeans.
"I t-thought you wanted this. S-sorry," Haechan looks down, feeling ashamed all of a sudden. He's in a hurry to zip himself again. God, you feel so cruel.
"I d-do," you admit, no longer giving a shit about that stupid bet. "But I don't want to rush you into anything you're not ready for."
"So, you've heard about what I said at that fucking party?"
"What did you say?" you ask, even though you have an idea of what it involves.
"That I'm saving it for someone special," It being his virginity, you suppose. "Someone who loves me. To be honest, I was really drunk that night. I don't care all that much anymore."
"It's okay to have your principles, Haechan," you try to reassure him and stroke his soft hair gently. "I think it's pretty admirable, actually."
Haechan shakes his head, visibly disagreeing.
"Well, it's fine. I'm ready for this, I promise. Just...don't leave right after, okay?" he pouts.
"Oh, Haechan, of course I won't leave," you reply and surprise yourself in that you really mean it.
Kissing him deeper, you finish what he started and take off his jeans. You touch his cock softly, as if it's the most precious thing in the world. You've done this hundreds of time with guys you didn't give a fuck about and felt nothing, the actions methodical and quick. But this, right now, is more special than your limited vocabulary could ever describe. You realize you genuinely don't want to hurt him. You bow down and envelop your lips around his length. He gets hard easily, considering it's his first time. You suck on him a couple of times and he cums even faster than you anticipated. But for some reason, it's never tasted sweeter.
"S-sorry," Haechan mumbles shyly.
"It's okay, my sweet boy," you coo in his ear, after you're done swallowing his cum. You run your hands through his hair once again. God, it's so silky. You could never get enough of him.
"W-what do I d-do now?" he asks cutely.
"Whatever you want, mon ange," you kiss him once more.
"C-can I eat you out?" Haechan inquires.
Oh, so virgin boy is not so clueless, after all.
"Sure, I guess," you shrug. Not really a huge fan of that, the few times guys have offered, they quickly grow tired of it and could never make you cum as hard as you could by yourself. But it's okay. If Haechan wants to...
"Just...guide me, okay?" he pleads adorably and soon, you find out he needs no guidance at all.
What he lacks in experience, he definitely makes up for with enthusiasm. He seems so eager to please you, licking and biting and kissing your pussy that you cum faster than you have in...well, ever, actually. You grip his hair for support, panting and chanting his name like a prayer.
"Was that alright?" Haechan feigns a self-conscious smile, though judging by your reaction, his smile is already turning into a proud smirk. That bastard.
"Are you kidding? It was...out of this world," you say honestly. Funny thing about honesty is how something that used to be so difficult for you comes so easily to you when you're with Haechan.
"Glad to hear," he grins widely. You want to kiss him every second till the rest of your life. The thought terrifies you.
"I s-should go," you try to get up. You can't do this. You can't be the one to take his virginity. Considering how this all started. It'd be too cruel. He should be with someone special, someone loves him more than anything, someone who'd never hurt him.
"W-what, w-why?" Haechan asks, grabbing your wrist in a panic, not wanting to let go. "I thought you liked me."
"I do like you. I like you so much. That's the problem."
"It doesn't have to be," Haechan disagrees, pushing you back on the bed. "Please, let me."
And here you thought you'd be the one begging him to have sex with you.
"O-okay," you can no longer find it in yourself to deny him. To deny your growing feelings...
Haechan digs through his jeans and pulls out a condom. His hands are shaking and he's having a hard time putting it on so you help him and pull him out of his misery. You give him a soft, reassuring smile, paired with a quick squeeze of his hand. He smiles back just as fondly.
And then he slides inside you so easily. As if he belongs there. As if he's meant to be yours. You kiss him desperately to distract yourself from the truth. To hide the tears that are threatening to come out.
"You f-feel so g-good," Haechan grunts in your ear.
"So do you, baby," you admit sincerely.
This time around, he lasts longer, fucking you until your release comes for the second time. He cums right after, with his hands touching your cheeks, his lips on your neck and his heart on his sleeve.
"Wanna stay inside you forever," he whispers once it's over.
"That wouldn't be very practical," you chuckle. Though you would like nothing more.
But he gets up to get rid of the condom and then comes back, hugging you tightly.
"Can you be my girlfriend?" Haechan blurts out. "I know you probably don't like clingy guys but...considering you've been pursuing me for the past three months, I thought..."
"I'll be your girlfriend," you agree rightaway, not giving a shit about the consequences. "Of course, I will."
He laughs, the sound so precious and filled with joy it breaks your heart.
Maybe he never has to know how it all began. Maybe you could hide it from him forever. Maybe...you could allow yourself to be happy. Just this once.
Soon, Haechan falls asleep, feeling comfortable around you. You know what you have to do, but you feel like shit anyway. You secretly take a picture of his half-naked figure sleeping soundly. You sigh quietly and send the photo to your stepbrother Jeno.
Then, you put your phone down, trying to forget about the whole ordeal. You cuddle up next to Haechan and enjoy his warmth until you fall asleep.
The next morning, you wake up before Haechan and quickly run out to make him some breakfast. You have no idea when his parents will be home but you don't want this to be their first impression of you. So, you leave the breakfast on Haechan's nightstand with a little note.
See you at school, boyfriend! XOXO, Y/N.
Rushing back home, you are satisfied when Jeno gives you the car keys to his Jaguar without protesting. Your stepbrother may be kinda freaky, but at least he's a man of his word. What gives you the creeps is the slight smirk on his face as he hands you the keys. As if he didn't lose the bet. As if he's the winner.
You try not to think about it too much, as you get dressed for school, excited to see Haechan again. You still can't believe he asked you to be his girlfriend. That pretty, sweet boy makes you so unbelievably happy. You look forward to spending more moments in his sunny company.
Haechan wakes up to the smell of warm pancakes, covered with chocolate and strawberries and accompanied by coffee. It immediately brings a smile on his face, which only becomes wider as he sees the little note you left him. He giddily enjoys the breakfast and then rushes to get dressed for school. You're his girlfriend! He's never had a girlfriend and he's so pleased you're being so nice to him. Maybe you really are better than people say and all that past drama was just everyone being jealous of your beauty and popularity...This is going to be the best day of his life.
But when he gets to school, everything changes. He knows that he's considered one of the "losers" in the hierarchy but usually people just ignore him and don't pay attention to him. He's fine with that, really! But today, whenever he walks by, people are snickering and whispering something. It feels so weird and makes him uncomfortable. He can't quite hear what they're saying and this kind of unexpected treatment is killing him.
He goes to his friend Mark to ask him what's up.
"Bro...I don't know how to tell you this," Mark looks away, as if the thing is so bad he can't even say it.
Haechan impatiently begs him to just enlighten him as to why everyone is giving him weird looks all day.
Mark sighs and shows him a secreenshot. There, he sees a photo of himself, half-naked and sleeping soundly. Fuck, that's from last night. And what the messages between you and your stepbrother Jeno reveal...shocks Haechan out of his senses. No...no way it was just a bet. No way you spent three months courting him for a fucking car?! This can't be true. It's gotta be Photoshopped or something.
"Listen, buddy, I warned you that she likes messing with guys and then leaving them."
"No, she...she really seemed to care about me," Haechan is still in denial as his vision becomes blurred with tears.
He runs away, unable to believe what is happening. He needs to speak to you. Hear it from your own lips. To be sure this is real and not just a sick joke.
When he finally finds you, he grabs your wrist as he did just yesterday. But this time, he's not doing to get you to stay. But because he's furious.
"Is it true? Did you really make a bet with Jeno on whether you can fuck me? Did you seriously do all of that over a car?!"
Your facial expressions are enough of an answer. Guilt. Something you never thought you were capable of.
"H-haechan, I swear I can explain," you beg him to hear you out.
"Explain? How can you explain that?" Haechan shakes his head, letting go of your hand. You try to touch him again but he shoves you off furiously.
"It was just a bet at the very beginning. But somewhere along the way, I really started having feelings for you, I promise," you cry passionately. "I don't care about the car, I'll fucking thrash it, I just wanted to get Jeno off my back."
Haechan takes a step back, feeling so betrayed. So...used.
"Whatever you say, I don't think I can believe you anymore. Was it fun, at least? Was this all just a wicked game to you?"
"N-no, it wasn't, I swear it," you are bawling at this point, feeling so pitiful. You don't care if the whole school sees. You only care that Haechan understands. You never meant things to go this far... "I truly care about you, Haechan."
"Yeah?" he scoffs, annoyed. "You only care about yourself."
And with that he leaves. And you lose the one person you truly, genuinely loved.
This is the worst day of your life.
Throughout the rest of the school year you don't dare approach him again. You know you fucked up so badly. You can't even look at that stupid car, let alone consider driving it, so you sell it. Partly because you're angry at Jeno for spreading the screenshot around the whole school. Partly because you no longer want to have anything that will remind you of the biggest mistake you ever made.
With the money you get for the car and some of your own savings, you secretly sponsor Haechan, Mark and their other friends' singing club. You don't even want Haechan to find out. It just...feels right. They could use the extra help.
As the final year of school nears its end, you begin to imagine a future where you never get to see Haechan again. At least, during the past couple of months you had the privilege of looking at him from a distance. But the idea of a world with no Haechan is like a world with no sun.
So, you decide you have to do something as soon as possible. He doesn't have to forgive you or accept you as a girlfriend again. You just want to be in his life in some form.
As you approach the school's radio booth, you feel all the bad things of your past coming back to bite you in the ass. Maybe you deserve to be forever alone. But you need to give it a try. It's your last chance.
"Hi, Mark," you greet your ex-boyfriend.
"What do you want, Y/N?" he sighs, not at all happy to see you.
"Before I get to that, let me just say how sorry I am for the way I treated you in the past. I'm really happy you're finally with someone who appreciates you for how totally awesome you are."
"That's...unexpectedly nice of you to say," Mark eyes you suspiciously. "We were never right for each other anyway. So, what do you want?"
"I want to apologize to Haechan. Through a message broadcasted to the whole school..."
"Gee, and you couldn't do it the old-fashioned way, face to face?" Mark jokes.
"Haechan doesn't wanna see me," you say, fully convinced.
"How would you know without trying?" Mark asks. Has...Haechan told him something? No, you couldn't allow yourself to hope.
"I just know, okay? Please, let me do this. We're graduating in one week, this might be my last chance to talk to Haechan."
Mark nods, agreeing.
"Five minutes," he takes off his headphones and vacates the seat in the radio booth for you.
"Thank you! I mean it," you have never been more grateful for anything.
Mark shrugs as if it's not a big deal and leaves you to it.
"I want to dedicate this so someone I hurt," you speak into the microphone. "Someone who didn't deserve it. Someone very dear to me. Someone I still care deeply about. Haechan, I'm so incredibly sorry, please, give me another chance."
And you start singing.
The world was on fire and no one could save me but you It's strange what desire will make foolish people do I never dreamed that I'd meet somebody like you And I never dreamed that I'd lose somebody like you
Your voice is off-key a couple of times and halfway through the song you start crying inconsolably, all the guilt and pain consuming you. The whole school is probably laughing at you but you can no longer bring yourself to care. The only thing that matters is that Haechan hears this.
When you finish the song, you leave the radio booth and are surprised to find Haechan right outside the door, willing to talk to you.
"H-haechan," you stammer and barely resist the urge to give him a hug. You don't want him to feel pressured or anything.
"I'll give you a second chance on one condition. I want Jeno's Jaguar," Haechan jokes.
"Too bad, I already sold it and donated the money to your music club so you guys can get new instruments and stuff."
"YOU DID WHAT?!" Haechan exclaims. He doesn't sound angry, though, just...shocked.
"Sorry, sorry, I know it wasn't my place. But it was so unfair the football team and the cheerleading team get so much money but no one cares about the arts."
"Okay, okay, I guess this is better than that ugly car," Haechan chuckles. The car is not ugly. Not even a little bit. But you appreciate Haechan all the more for saying that.
"Can you really forgive me?" you ask desperately, eyes still watery.
"I can forgive you but I'll probably never forget," Haechan admits with a sigh. "If you break my trust again..."
"I won't, I swear!" you vow seriously. "I'll spend the rest of my life making it up to you and treating you the way you deserve. You're the best person I've ever met, Haechan. If you'll have me, I want to be around you forever."
"Forever is a long time" Haechan muses out loud. "Considering we're going to college...I don't even know where you're applying."
"I'll go wherever you go," you say hurriedly.
"You can't give up on your dreams just for me, though."
"I'm not. You're my dream, Haechan. You're my sun and I want to be in your orbit. If you'll allow me, that is," you can't take it any longer and hold his hand softly, asking, begging for that second chance not to slip away.
"I'll allow it," Haechan smiles sweetly. "Let's run towards our dreams together, from now on."
"I won't let you down," you promise from the depths of your heart.
And you finally, truly mean it.

I really feel like so many people who hate Vivienne for being power hungry do not fully grasp and appreciate the desperation that Vivienne feels because she conceals it so well… as little content as she got, she honestly is expertly written and presented and it’s why it disappoints me so much when people hate her for surface level reasons… her writer deserves so much more appreciation.
I think it is subtle because she hides it and you really have to care about the character to seek out these threads and understand her motivations… she is in danger of total irrelevance, being cast aside by society (and history), and she is forced to ride the coattails of some upstart organization because all of the institutions she is invested in have either totally failed her or cast her aside.
She is clearly a prideful person who does not readily admit this… but her true talent is how clearly she can evaluate this and understand her own position. She suffers no delusions. She knows the Circle’s standing in society is diminished to nothing if it doesn’t house and account for the majority of mages, and she is left with just meek Chantry loyalists and sycophants who are lost without her guiding hand, as even otherwise pro-Circle mages with any sense have abandoned ship and left both rebels and loyalists at this point to see where the chips fall (Ellandra) - and the Chantry itself has been all but decimated in terms of military and political power. The one lifeline she has is the Imperial Court, and the fickle nobility have moved on from her - the mages are now a threat that she cannot control or offer any meaningful opposition to, and Celene’s favor has turned to Morrigan, and Vivienne does not know if she will ever have it again. She knows Bastien is dying, and that all that she has left at court will be those who hold kind feelings towards her such as his family, and that is a position she can never accept - being at the mercy of others.
We meet Vivienne, this impressive, powerful mage, who has made a life for herself by maneuvering brilliantly, all to improve her own standing, at a point where she is in danger of losing everything she has. And she doesn’t let on, at least not explicitly, but she joins the Inquisition out of desperation - it’s obvious she sees it as an opportunity, but the gravity of the situation for her isn’t clear from the start. She refuses to lay down and fade away. Vivienne would never had joined this fledgling upstart organization if she was in a better position at Court or there wasn’t a vacuum of power. She is very close to having nothing left, and starting over - and so she does. Before the rug can be pulled from under her, she gets out and sets off for herself again.
Vivienne, often accused of pride, privilege, and self importance, comes to the Inquisitor out of pure humility. She knows she is reduced. And her gamble ultimately pays off, and the Inquisition becomes the political juggernaut that it does, and she becomes more powerful and important than ever just by association. And I like to think, especially with an Inquisitor who respects and befriends her, that she plays no small part in shaping the organization.
I think this is also why, potentially, she plays it so cool at the Winter Palace. She doesn’t get involved… she doesn’t need to. Simply being present is a statement to the court, and she truly doesn’t care about who wins; it’s not just the Game, it’s personal, despite what she claims. That they cast her aside, and now they are interested again… not necessarily in her, but still, she sees the paradigm shifting again. She is now a part of the organization who gets to change Orlais, and favor with the Inquisition is quickly becoming just as important as favor with Celene.
The whole arc is a subtle one as she really doesn’t get much attention, but if you pay close attention, it shows how expertly Vivienne plays politics. We already know she came from nothing and maneuvered into a powerful position. But I think not everyone realizes she is nearly back to nothing when we first meet her… and through the course of the game’s events, by allying with the right people, she plays the game well enough to become an advisor to the most influential person in southern Thedas… and potentially even Divine. But her initial plea to the Inquisitor, for all the great lengths she goes to keep up the appearance of strength and invulnerability, comes from a place of utter desperation.
#maybe others also GET this but I feel like ppl who are critical of her… do not?#vivienne#vivienne de fer#dragon age#dai

Group Project
Summary: When Asia's in need of a few lessons regarding matters of the bedroom, her colleague and friend, Kelvin, offers his expertise.
Pairing: Kelvin Harrison Jr. x Black!OC
Warnings: Mature Content (18+)
Word Count: 5.9k
MASTERLIST
"Okay. I think…I think I'm ready."
For seven straight days, Asia moved through life, reliving her response to Kelvin and feeling like she'd just written a check her ass couldn't cash. The real thing. What the fuck had she agreed to?
As she sat next to Sabrina with her feet submerged in tepid, bubbling water, the reality of sex unspooling from a far away abstract thought into a tangible possibility with only hours separating her from facing her wildest fantasies smacked her so hard in the face she almost choked on the flat champagne sliding around her plastic cup.
"Are you all right over there?" Sabrina asked without looking away from the laminated list of pedicure options.
Asia attempted to take a steadying breath between coughs. "I think I'm dying," she sputtered. Another sip of the offending beverage helped force down residual mucus until she was able to speak without her throat burning. "Honestly, that might not be such a bad idea."
"Oh, girl. You're losing your virginity, not going off to fight on the frontlines. Tighten up!"
"Sabrina," Asia whisper-yelled before shooting a nervous grimace meant as a smile to a few older women thumping about in the massage chairs across from them. "You wanna tell everybody my business over the PA system or tap folks individually?"
Rolling her eyes, Sabrina passed the laminated menu of pedicures to Asia before taking a sip of red wine. "I'm just sayin', friend. I came out today to help you loosen up, but you're stressin' me out. If you're having second thoughts, I'm sure your man will let you reschedule. I heard y'all on the phone earlier. He seems nice enough."
"I don't want to reschedule. I wanna do it tonight. I'm just…I don't know. I'm nervous about the before stuff. If that goes wrong, the whole night is ruined."
Asia had spent the better part of a week trying to negotiate with the truth, only to realize that reality drove a hard bargain. She couldn't escape the rising tide of nascent romance threatening to wash away all her preconceived notions about her place in love land. He had to know their no-strings-attached suddenly developed enough strings to power a symphony.
For years, she'd convinced herself that time had passed her by. There were no more opportunities for first dates or first kisses. Men worth their snuff in the world wouldn't waste their time with a woman so demonstrably unsexy that she made Mother Teresa look like a lingerie model. Long-term relationships were for your early 20s. And if those days were lost to being dismissed by any potential love interest within the county line, one was essentially doomed to a life of pet-fostering and spending Valentine's Day indoors to avoid spilling your patheticness on people who'd figured out the game.
Then came Kelvin, who, by all accounts, seemed to neatly pack each of her insecurities and hang-ups into a tiny box before chucking them into the wind. Asia couldn't understand why he hadn't dropped the entire experiment to canoodle, with women undoubtedly vying for his attention. She knew falling for your first, no matter what stage of life the experience found you, was a rookie mistake. But, the wrongs felt so right with him. How could she not at least try?
Sabrina paused her perusal of neon gel nail lacquer and smiled at her friend. "That boy likes you, Asia." Her matter-of-fact delivery came with a light chuckle as she pushed Asia's shoulder for emphasis. "He's not taking you on a date and sending flowers to the house because y'all are best pals. You can spend today worryin' yourself crazy, but I'm tellin' you it's for no reason. Get out of your head. Take it from somebody who is just now realizing her man never really liked her."
"Damn. I'm guessing you and Eric are back off?"
"Girl, yes. For good. But whatever, it's fine." Sabrina scoffed, waving Asia off as if her split second of vulnerability was nothing more than an observation about the weather, and smiled. "Today's about you! We gon' get these nails done, grab you something sexy for the art hoe, and teach you how to use lube. Condoms are being used, right?"
Asia's eyes darted around the room to catch horrified reactions from anyone who might've heard her business being openly discussed. "Bitch!" She lowered her voice before responding. "Yes, we are using condoms. I went and got them myself."
"That's what the fuck I'm talking about. I got this silicone-based lube that I know you'll love. Makes it feel like nothing's separating y'all. My girl is rubbing fronts tonight! Yesss!"
"Oh God," Asia groaned as she slouched further into her chair, wishing she could poof into a thin layer of pixie dust if it meant she could escape embarrassment. "I'm gonna die."
Throat clearing and the grating squeak of leather under shifting weight stopped Sabrina's ongoing teasing mid-sentence to bring their attention to a greying black woman with curiosity etched in her barely wrinkled face. "Now, I know y'all weren't talking to me, but I need the name of that lube. Do I need to order it off the Amazon? I just got Prime from my son for Christmas."
"Oop. I got you, Auntie. Let me see your phone."
While Sabrina drew in a small crowd of elders looking to get back in the saddle with some slippery assistance, Asia found solace in another scroll of her favorite text thread.
Can't wait to see you later Missed your face this week
Kelvin's last message included an air kiss gif that Asia would consider corny if not for the sender. Pitch decks, client meetings, and last-minute PTO set them on paths winding in different directions, stealing away all chances at a face-to-face meeting before they were body-to-body.
If not for an impromptu call before the sun could fully take its rightful place in the sky, all communication would belong to iMessages full of jokes with no context and memes they considered fully fleshed-out thoughts.
Asia read each message repeatedly just to feel the flutter of butterflies in every corner of her belly. He liked her. He had to. The sweet messages, the peach tulips bound in a pretty brown bow, and the early morning wake-up call couldn't all be kind gestures from a friend. Right?
An internal battle between logic and wishful thinking played out in Asia's mental colosseum. She volleyed a million possible outcomes back and forth until stilted buzzing and a quiet trill against her wrist drew her attention to an incoming FaceTime call from the man of the hour.
She slid in an earbud and then answered, instantly smiling as she watched his chain bob back and forth with every step while he kept the camera positioned below his face. Grown-out facial hair created the right amount of scruffiness to turn the heads of young and old women alike. His baseball cap cast a shadow across his cheeks. A cerulean sky boasting specks of fluffy white clouds and bright rays of flattering light highlighted the gleam in his earrings. It fanned outward, turning him into a walking, talking work of art.
When he finally realized the call had connected and he had the rapt attention of his lone audience member, he looked down and grinned. "What's all that about?"
"All what?"
"That little smile," he chuckled. "You showin' teeth and everything, girl. Must be happy to see me."
Caught. Asia tried to return to a neutral expression but found her face ignoring mental orders to accommodate more and more cheek burning as her smile grew wider. "Whatever! This is your second time calling. You need something, or you just like to hear me talk?"
"Both," he answered, splitting his attention between an incoming crosswalk and the screen. The usual playfulness in his tone abruptly dissipated, leaving behind a seriousness Asia hadn't experienced. He looked down at her and licked his lips before speaking again. "I just, um…I wanted you to know that I'm cool with not staying the night. That was one of your rules, so don't think you have to change it on account of me. I'll leave in the middle of the night if that means you're comfortable."
"I want you to stay, Kel. But only if you want to."
"I already got my bag packed with extra pajamas and my laptop just in case this turns into a whole weekend. C'mon, now. This me you talking to!"
Asia lifted a brow, shocked by his eagerness to spend days on end in her cramped apartment. "My bad! Didn't know you'd be so excited for a sleepover with little 'ol me."
"I'm always excited to be with you," he answered. Dual smiles radiating from opposite ends of the city held steady over the phone until Kelvin pulled open a door and ushered in a harsh mix of sounds. "I gotta go. My boy's already on my ass for being late. He about to lose his tip, to be honest."
Asia's laughter drew attention, forcing her to shoo Sabrina away before she could interrupt. "Go ahead and get your haircut. Let me see when you're – girl, go away!"
"Tell your girl I said 'hey,'" Kelvin chuckled as he eased his way into an empty barber chair. His eyes lingered on her face for a moment longer, trying to commit her scrunched nose and knitted brows to memory in case their time together was winding down. "I gotta go. I'll see you later, pretty."
Her farewell was lost to petty arguments with her best friend on her end and a groundswell of hooping and hollering behind an offending opinion amongst a shop full of men on his side. A huff of air pushed past his lips in a short laugh as he slid his phone into the front pocket of his jeans.
His barber and friend, Brandon, shook his head and tapped his foot on the pedal to lift Kelvin to the right height. "That's shorty from the bar that night? China?"
"Asia," Kelvin corrected, a miffed frown deepening the lines at the corners of his mouth. "And, yeah. That's her."
"My fault. You be way too secretive though, bro. How did y'all meet? Do you like her? Y'all just kickin' it? Tell me something, or I'm fuckin' up the fade."
Black nylon cascading in front of his face gave Kelvin a split second to decide how much information he could share with his notoriously talkative right-hand man without opening the door to prying questions and needless revelations.
He scratched at the itching hair on his jawline, trying to appear nonchalant. "We met at work. She was new, I showed her around, and now we cool. Simple." An instant smile betrayed his forced tough-guy act.
"Nah, you cheesin'! Tell the real story!"
The poker face he'd tried to maintain continued to slip into a full display of all thirty-plus teeth.
"Alright, alright," Kelvin conceded. For months, he kept the truth relegated to his personal journal and mental interviews with Jimmy Kimmel while he practiced for superstardom in the shower. At least one other person should hear how he willingly tangled himself in Asia Scott's web. "I actually saw her when she interviewed. Bad, bro. I'm talkin' make you stop in your tracks just to watch her walk by type fine. Had me stuck at the coffee bar looking stupid."
Brandon hummed as he pushed Kelvin's head down to start his cut. "Mhmm. That's how it starts, for real. She said something to you first, or what?"
"Nah, I approached her. Not even trying to cross that line, really. I was supposed to just say what's up and keep it professional, but I couldn't stop talking after that. Next thing I know, we eating lunch, and I'm askin' this girl about her goals and shit." Kelvin laughed to himself while internally watching the memory unfold like a rom-com for his heart and mind only. "She ain't ask nothin' about me, and I ain't even care. I just wanted to be around her."
"Sound like you got it bad, my boy."
Kelvin released an air he didn't know he was holding through his nose. "Yeah, man. I like her. A lot, actually. I'm thinkin' about saying something when we go out tonight, but…I don't know. It might not be the right time considering what I got goin' on."
"They must be talkin' 'bout some money in Chicago."
"And then some," Kelvin added. "Crazy perks, revenue share, development plans. My whole life might change."
A loose connection from portfolio school and an expensive cold brew on a rainy weekday afternoon turned Kelvin's professional world upside down in less than two weeks. Initially, he wasn't interested in a move, even if the current work was no longer challenging and forward motion had stalled. His job was easy, flexible, and enough to pay the bills with a little extra on the side. But, a half-hour chemistry meeting with two creative leads over Zoom ran fifteen minutes too long from vibes alone. Then, solid chemistry turned into a first-round interview with a few department heads ogling over his professional and personal work for almost an hour before promising to keep in touch. Radio silence on their end for over a week convinced Kelvin that the circus was over, and he was free to go back to his life of easy money for even easier work. Hell, he didn't want to live in cold-ass Chicago anyway.
Then the phone rang. And the inbox blew up. Flights got booked. Hotel arrangements were made. Hasty, last-minute PTO requests were granted in good faith. Tired eyes shielded by blue light lenses watched clouds part over a glittering city from thousands of feet in the air. A non-traditional second-round interview over piping hot pizza turned him into the center of attention. Corporate banter while he sipped freezing cold beer in lower-level seats at a Bulls game ended with a handshake and Kelvin sensing that he'd have a decision on his hands in the coming weeks.
Asia. She popped into his mind more than a few times while too-cool advertising types wined and dined him in hopes his talent would fill out their roster. All of the progress, all of the accidentally tender moments and slip-ups he knew in his heart were more than happy accidents flooded him with ceaseless anxiety. Sure, he could see them planning weekend trips back and forth to keep the flame alive in a budding relationship. Long-distance courtship wasn't ideal, but he'd manage for her. However, his feelings about the matter were inconsequential. One false move, and he'd be out of a friend and potential lover. The thought alone threatened to upend a night he'd carefully planned since they agreed to their unconventional arrangement.
The soft buzz of clippers near his right ear rescued Kelvin from spiraling as chunks of dead hair fell around him.
"Aye, man, I ain't no love expert or nothing, but," Brandon started, his attention far off while he focused on his money-making blend. "You like her. I could tell when you brought her over to us that night, but I ain't wanna blow up your spot. Might as well say something. Why you wanna go to Chicago with regrets? You already 'bout to be up there with a slaw ass haircut because I ain't givin' up no contacts. Lose my number after this, nigga."
Kelvin kissed his teeth and waved Brandon off. "I deleted your contact this morning if we being honest. Been tired of your ass."
Shared laughter between two men who'd seen each other, from the naivety of boyhood to the hurdles and joys on the journey to becoming a man, added levity to a bitter inner storm. Kelvin tried to savor the moment and advice without dwelling on impending decisions but found the task harrowing once he popped the bubble they'd created to re-enter the real world.
Regrets. Kelvin had a lot of them. Skipping out on senior prom, not answering his sister's FaceTime call for free Kendrick Lamar tickets, choosing that sketchy roommate to make ends meet in his first year out of school – the list went on and on. Asia couldn't be one of them. Not knowing if there could've been more would gnaw at him til kingdom come, and he didn't have room to harbor more what-ifs.
Standing shoulder to shoulder with Asia, half listening to instructions with sweaty palms and a heart nearly cracking ribs in his chest, Kelvin resolved to use his last bits of nerve to step out on a limb.
Sax heavy jazz selections wrapped a rented test kitchen and the couples within its walls in a sensual embrace under dim yellow light. Kelvin had TikTok and a favor to thank for snagging the final spot in Shawn and Terricka's coveted Couples Night In cooking course. In one night, he and Asia would take a culinary trip to Italy, complete with expert wine pairings and handmade pasta to bring them together as two parts of a whole. Kelvin couldn't say he was much of a fettuccine, linguini, bow tie, rigatoni guy. Still, he'd never forget how Asia's face lit up when she showed him videos of young women making noodles from scratch. He went to the ends of the Earth and his wallet to orchestrate an experience she wouldn't forget on a night when every detail down to the minute required perfection.
"Are you listening?" Asia asked with a teasing smile as she adjusted the complementary apron, shielding her from what was sure to be a mess if she had anything to do with it.
He puffed his chest and straightened before clapping his hands and looking around their station at the ingredients in front of them. "Y-yeah. I heard everything she said. Eggs, flour, this thing…" He paused to satisfy his curiosity with a single crank of the pasta roller's handle before continuing. "It's, uh…all here."
Asia watched him search the depths of his mind for any crumb of retained information, enjoying the way his lips shifted back and forth in pensive silence.
Overhead light bathed Kelvin in a flattering glow, making the small stud in his ear and the watch on his wrist shine each time he moved his head. A soft black cashmere cardigan cradled strong arms, while his signature crisp white T-shirt displayed his broadening chest. His fresh haircut and trimmed facial hair sent tingles to all the right places, reminding Asia of the first time she noticed he was fine.
"You're cute when you pretend you know what you're doing."
Kelvin gave her a half smile without tearing his eyes away from the short list of step-by-step instructions in his hand. "Oh yeah? Only then?"
"Well, all the time. But especially when you're thinking. Like how you're trying to remember Terricka's instructions when she hasn't even given us any yet. She was introducing the class and telling us we'd be sharing a little about ourselves in a bit.”
A sheepish grin preceded a gentle bump against Asia's forearm before Kelvin's shoulders bounced in quiet laughter. "Why you doin' me like that? If you didn't look so damn good in this dress, we'd have a problem."
"Oh, so it's the dress?" Asia quipped as Kelvin leaned back for a better look.
He nodded and reached out to pull her closer by the waist. His lips quickly found a home on her ear to keep their conversation private in a room full of chattering adults. "It's more than the dress. You're gorgeous, baby."
Sweet compliments mumbled against soft, brown skin drowned out couple after couple sharing their names, length of relationship, and fun facts until a loud hand clap snapped Asia and Kelvin's attention to the center of the room.
"And you two," Shawn questioned with all eyes directed toward the youngest two in attendance. "Tell us about your love."
Kelvin gripped Asia tighter and cleared his throat. "Uh, I'm Kelvin, and this is Asia."
"Hey, y'all," Asia chimed with a quick wave.
"And we're…" Kelvin looked at Asia, smiling at her while she smiled back at him, to find an explanation for what they'd been doing for a month. "We're enjoying our time together." His gaze remained steadfast on Asia's bashful grin. "Maybe we'll finish tonight on a different note, though."
Red wine, teamwork, and a stack of questions printed on thick white note cards would ensure that the pair at least ended their first date with a greater understanding of each other. Asia learned Kelvin was an artist in every sense of the word. He preferred freestyling the tedious pasta recipe when directions called for specificity in every regard. Asia kept them on task, but not without redirecting her excitable companion along the way.
Kelvin quickly discovered that all of Asia's know-how completely disappeared when faced with kitchen matters. She didn't know a ¼ cup from a half and didn't have any intentions of learning. Her forte was delegating tasks, not sullying her painted fingernails and oiled cuticles with egg yolks and wet dough.
Separately, they were a clusterfuck of missing parts trying to navigate an arduous task. Together, though, they crafted the best mafaldine their instructors for the night had ever seen from amateurs.
Tucked in a corner at the far end of the space's makeshift eating area, Kelvin and Asia plucked cards one after the other in a back-and-forth Q&A over flavorful mafaldine pasta bolognese.
"Mm, this is a good one," Asia said after a sip of cabernet. "What is your favorite thing about your partner? What's one thing you would change?"
Kelvin twirled pasta around his fork and thought for a moment. "You don't take a lot of shit. I like that you're very direct and in charge of what you want."
"And something you would change?"
"That's easy," he answered through a chew. "You're too hard on yourself. I wish you could see yourself how everyone else sees you. I know you think we're all just being nice, but you really are incredible. I love watching you blossom." Kelvin watched Asia digest his words over her glass, the wheels churning in her active mind. He reached across the table to grab another card. "What's one thing you want me to know about our relationship?"
That I'm falling for you, and I don't want this to end. One hundred answers flooded in at once, but Asia settled on one. "I want you to know how appreciative I am for…all this. You've been kind when you could've called me a loser and left me in that bar to be with your friends."
"I wouldn't have done that, Asia. Not to you."
"I know," Asia assured as she dragged the last vowel. "But, you could've. So, thank you for being so kind and patient. By tomorrow, that'll all be done, and we'll go back to our lives, so I didn't wanna miss the chance to let you know how I feel."
Confusion made Kelvin tilt his head to one side, studying her face under the haze of full-bodied wine and growing affection. "Go back to my life? Where's that coming from?"
"I just mean, it seems like we're coming to the natural end of this thing we're doing. We'll still be friends, but you'll be free to fly. Maybe sweep somebody off their feet. You're good at that," Asia clarified, her smile lingering as the familiar bloom of feelings coursing through her veins made her stomach flutter.
Kelvin placed his fork against his plate before pulling the napkin from his lap and depositing it on the table. No regrets. Now or never. A short laugh brought with it a charming grin aimed at his favorite girl.
"Asia, I guess haven't been super clear with you from the start," He started while motioning for her hand in the center of the table. Asia answered his wordless call and placed her fingers in the center of his warm palm. He leaned closer, hoping she could detect his eyes' sincerity when he finally breathed out, "I like you, Asia. Shit, even 'like' is too small," He laughed. "I…I adore you. I crave you. I look forward to seeing you. I think about you constantly. I feel connected to you. I want to be with you. Does any of that make sense?"
Asia sat stone still and unblinking for a moment, mulling over words she had only dreamt of hearing from another. An explicit declaration of intent – feeling foreign in her ears but familiar to a heart that longed for reciprocation.
Her thumb caressed the back of Kelvin's hand as a smile spread her cheeks to their limit and deepened dimples she almost forgot existed. "Guess I'm a better kisser than I thought, huh?"
"Actually, I don't know. Let me check real quick." Metal dragging across stained concrete brought Kelvin's chair closer to Asia until their knees touched, transferring heat between their bodies. His fingers grazed her jawline, never averting his attention from her equally unwavering gaze. "Come here."
Asia's favorite command, delivered in a sultry mumble, made hair all over her body stand straight up as they moved to meet each other in the middle.
One tentative peck introduced a slow progression of deep, passionate kisses, translating latent feelings into a language only bodies could speak. A barely audible moan slipped out of Asia's mouth when Kelvin nipped at her lip, reminding them an audience wasn't far away. They pulled away slowly with equally glazed-over eyes and goofy grins.
Kelvin smiled and swiped at Asia's bottom lip with the pad of his thumb. "Way better." He listened to her sweet giggle, grinning back until the sound reminded him of the question left unanswered. "Look, four weeks didn't spark how I feel about you. They helped, don't get me wrong, but I knew I wanted you as more than a friend the second you strolled into that office. If we're not on the same page, I understand. But if there's any chance we are, any chance –"
"We're on the same page, same sentence, same word. But we can talk about what all that means tomorrow, okay?" Carnal desire propelled Asia forward for another slow kiss and feather-soft caress that threatened to bring Kelvin to his knees. She inched away to keep her lips on his as she spoke. "Right now, take me home. I don't wanna wait anymore."
------
Hopefully, Alister liked SZA.
As barely intelligible love songs oozed from her Bluetooth speaker, Asia attempted to stifle sounds of pleasure with her forearm pressed against her mouth and one leg draped lazily over her lover's shoulder. Languid, thorough oral affection kept her lower back levitated off the mattress. Soft moaning melding with subtle slurping and smacking treated her ears to a beautiful symphony catered to her.
Kelvin's fingers pressed into Asia's flesh to keep her steady while he lapped at the beginning of what he hoped was only her first orgasm for the night. Nervousness had him self-conscious. Skills he'd practiced and mastered long before she stepped into his life felt foreign. Was he doing it right? Did she like it? Was she happy? He suppressed the urge to question her satisfaction, instead leaning on every wanton sigh and muffled moan as proof he was on the right path.
"Oh my God," Asia whispered to the ceiling. "Don't stop!"
Immeasurable euphoria washed over her naked body as her hips bucked to accommodate electric shocks from head to toe. Hey, eyes crossed behind closed lids. Her toes curled while all ten fingers gripped the sheets.
"One down," Kelvin thought to himself as he smiled against thighs pressed tight to his face.
If not for her hand prying his face away after she'd exhausted herself from cumming, he'd start from scratch and bring her to the mountaintop until his jaws locked. But, he relented under her breathless pleas for a break.
Slowly, Kelvin kissed his way up Asia's belly, making pit stops at both breasts and his favorite spot beneath her right ear before connecting their lips. They groaned at her taste intermingling with remnants of alcohol while their tongues reacquainted in a waltz too perfect to be a sin. He could feel his rational thoughts running south to stiffen his neglected member against briefs, growing more and more uncomfortable as the minutes passed.
Kelvin shifted his attention back to Asia's neck so he could speak against the spot. "You feel ready or need more?" His tongue sliding across the pulsing stretch of hot skin made Asia shiver under his body weight. He smiled and pulled back to get a better look at Asia's face. "You feel ready. Talk to me, pretty."
"Okay," she answered as her arms encircled his neck. "Promise you'll go slow?"
He nodded before dipping his head to peck her lips. "As slow as you need. I'll take care of you."
Years of waiting for someone to cherish her enough to take the plunge had culminated in undergarments discarded across the room and a single sleeve of thin latex covered in expensive lube separating her from the only man to see her in her most vulnerable form.
This was it. This was the moment. She'd dreamed about it plenty of times, imagining the most minute details, from the weather to how she'd sound at the height of her climax. Mirages filled with rose petals on the floor and a soft breeze coming through the window made up a scenario better suited for a romance novel than the reality of finally releasing pent-up sexual tension.
Asia expected pain for the first time. She'd heard the horror stories and done enough research to know what was waiting on the other side of first-time penetration. Breathing recommendations and practiced facial expressions to mask her true feelings came flooding back to the front of her mind as Kelvin ran his palms up and down her hips to soothe her while he positioned himself at her entrance. She held her breath. Waiting, anticipating limb-splitting fire to consume her body.
But, as Kelvin slowly sank into her and twin groans of pure, unadulterated ecstasy eclipsed the opening notes of Love Galore, all of her assumptions became background fodder.
Asia gripped Kelvin's tensed bicep while he stilled deep in her heat, watching her face for any signs of discomfort. "You okay," He questioned through shallow pants.
"Mhmm," she hummed before reaching to bring his face closer. "You feel so good already." Kelvin closed his eyes to will away premature release while she pulsed around him. Asia stroked his cheek and arched into his chest to beg him to move inside her. "Please. I trust you, Kel. It's okay."
As promised, Kelvin started slow, rolling his hips into her for shallow strokes that made Asia's voice hoarse and her head spin. He reveled in the feel of ridged walls greeting his arrival as they tugged and released him according to pace. He lowered himself into the crook of her neck and felt instant relief when she cradled him close. The bed creaked in time to every measured back and forth, adding another layer to the duet their individual moaning created.
Hot, slick skin on crumpled cold sheets wouldn't allow Asia to drift too far into La La Land. She feasted on Kelvin digging deeper and gripping her tighter while her body did the work to accommodate inch after glorious inch.
Kelvin tried to remain quiet, tempering each grunt and unidentifiable sound as his hips loosened to find a rhythm perfect enough to elicit high-pitched mewls from the apple of his eye while she dug her fingernails into his back.
"Look at you," Kelvin cooed as he pushed back up onto his forearms to get the full experience of Asia's face twisting in pleasure. "You're so fucking pretty. Open your eyes."
"Kel…"
He moved to bring one leg up to his waist for a new angle. "I'm right here, baby. Open those pretty eyes for me. Your first time only happens once. Don't look away." He waited patiently for Asia to force her sagging lids open enough to reveal the punchdrunk haze of a methodical fucking. He smiled down at her. "There she is. How you feelin'?"
"So…oh my God…so good."
"That's what I like to hear. I feel you getting close. You feel that?"
A long, choppy moan came out before Asia's slurred response. "Mhmm. I think I'm…. mmm, I think I'm… I'm close."
"Yeah, you are. Relax for me. Breathe deep." Asia tried to keep track of instructions but lost the plot and her sense of hearing the moment Kelvin slipped his hand between them to rub her clit with his thumb.
The barely familiar coil of release tightened in her lower abdomen as Kelvin rocked into her while whispering sweet everything onto the corner of her mouth. Asia wrapped her arms around his shoulders for stability, anticipating the first wave of heat trying to prepare her body for something more intense.
Her breathing grew rigid. The world slipped away pixel by pixel. Thoughts turned into mush. Kelvin's instructions returned as fleeting anecdotes. Asia tried to breathe through it but found the task playing second fiddle to the natural tense and release of her thighs around his waist.
In through your nose, Asia. The reminder pinged around the empty corners of her mind until they found a way to burrow into the only functioning part of her brain.
Kelvin watched her cycle through a range of all too familiar feelings from overhead, pride, and a competitive spirit he thought he left in high school, convincing him to go above and beyond. He drove his hips a little harder to hear the headboard thumb against paper-thin drywall. Added pressure on her sensitive button was the magic key to turning a small pond into one of the great lakes.
Asia's jaw dropped to force out a throaty, "Fuck, baby…yes!" before he eased up to allow her to experience all the joy of post-coital bliss without the overstimulation. He'd save that for another time if the universe allowed.
Sabrina was so wrong about what to expect. All Asia's hang-ups about ending the night unsatisfied or unimpressed were washed away as sensation returned to her fingers and toes.
"Kiss me." It's all she wanted – Kelvin's lips on hers until her oxygen became his.
They lay there, hot, sweaty, and still connected at the waist while Kelvin pressed tender kisses on Asia's lips. He nuzzled his nose against hers. "You called me 'baby.'"
"I know," she answered as she brought her hand up to rub a spot at the base of his neck. "I meant to. Don't make me regret it."
Guilt smacked into Kelvin like an 18-wheeler, but he maintained his composure to maintain the hopeful smile on Asia's face. "I won't."
"Good. Don't hold back on me this time. I want all of you."
"This time" turned into another, a short break and a few more for good measure while SZA sang them into the wee hours of the morning. Kelvin poured himself into making every minute worth Asia's while as a reward for trusting him with her body.
Chicago and its host of budding issues belonged to another day. He wasn't leaving the room, her apartment, or the city with any regrets. Not while he still had so many more lessons to teach.

for what it's worth I personally don't believe spite had anything to do with the pantry near-kiss experience at all. I think that was a 100% lucanis naturel disaster no supernatural additives present or indeed required. at most spite was watching that whole situation go down with mild puzzlement about approximately every part of it, I don't think he'd have much interest in it one way or the other. the explanation seems much more mundane and grounded and in some ways much sadder to me.
if your nervous system has never been in a place where any surge of emotion, even -- in fact sometimes especially! -- a good and exciting one makes you feel like your soul just touched a hot stove it can't get away from, then sincerely, from the bottom of my heart and without a trace of snark, thank goodness and I hope you never experience it. For the rest of you... fistbump of solidarity it's rough out here but *grits teeth* we stay silly etc. In the place lucanis is in during that part of the game, feeling like you're losing control (again even for ostensibly good happy reasons) can feel an awful lot like you're dying, or worse. on top of everything else going on for him -- again going only with non-supernatural elements and not even comprehensive: a year of non-stop horrific trauma added to pile of previous mountain of childhood and attachment trauma. chronic sleep deprivation. apparently dead grandma doubling as mother figure. cousin-brother aggressively fucking around and in real danger of finding out. fucked up the ONE thing he thought he knew how to do that's been the central pillar of his identity. the world might be ending even more than it already was because of it. keeps faceplanting with barely any dignity and having to get up again with alarming regularity GOD how could I ever not save treviso this man desperately needs a W (just one!!) like few people in the history of the world have before him. he's more caffeine than man because the alternative feels worse. it's bad in here. and ON TOP of all that he's in the process of falling just. appallingly soul-shrivingly in love, which can notably be playing on hard mode even when you're in a mostly functional place, that shit routinely rocks people to the core under the best of circumstances.
so I'm not surprised it's too overwhelming for him to handle when he tries to throw himself in head first -- in fact I'd have been more surprised if it weren't lol. he clearly wants it so much, which only makes it so much more painful that he can't actually bear to touch it when it's offered to him freely and eagerly. this is the tantalus-level awfulness of this kind of attachment trauma; food seems to be right there, you can see it, almost smell it sometimes, but no matter what you just can't seem to reach it. seemingly not for any flaw in the existence of the food, but because of something broken in you that can't or can't bear to actually eat. his deliberate flirting routine is kind of deeply dorky tbh lol (in the most endearing way possible let's be perfectly clear) and I don't think it's entirely natural to him -- that's a hastily cobbled together 'oh god I am getting the vibes here it is happening for some reason they like me for my personality quick what would illario do' approach if ever I saw it, supported by the fact that it never really makes a return after this --
BUT I do think his obvious near-unbearable delight with rook's existence and person that shines through in that scene is entirely real and unfeigned. he likes them so much. he wants so bad to be able to be close to them. he's so hungry for the reprieve and release and relief they represent to him, just for one moment, just one break from all the awfulness to have something uncomplicatedly good. and it's here, it's been offered, he's welcome!!! and he has to flinch away at the last minute anyway because he's an exposed nerve of a human being. there's a point at which every sensation including joy becomes indistinguishable from agony. he's pretty much exactly at that point. for the love of god have some mercy on him people. the feeling that salvation is right here but you're too broken a vessel to hold it is one I wouldn't wish on anyone. let him have a few moments to stare into the void before he's ready to get back up and try again surely we all deserve at least that much lol
#dragon age#dragon age: the veilguard#dragon age: the veilguard spoilers#dragon age spoilers#lucanis dellamorte#rook x lucanis#rookanis#this is literally just me ranting about the feelings he evokes in me and not really directed at anyone I just. I Feel. things#in case you can't tell. I'm the lucanis. him is me. we be like this. this all makes the too much kind of perfect sense to me#it's odd in narrative structure but it's uh. uncomfortably real in some ways. freeze is difficult to describe in conventional narrative#it's a bad time to have in a bad place. but very decent company to be in I must say I love him. so much#also I think we might have exposed some of the basic garrusness going on here haha (just one thing please just one good thing)#and how much getting there hinges on feeling completely safe in that relationship. anyway. everyone ok. Choi Subong “Thanos” - Fuck 388.
Warning : death mention
Genre : angst
Synopsis : “Thanos is in a relationship with the reader, but during the game they become very distant, the reader votes for X and moves to another group, maybe he even became close friends with Dae-Ho. How do you think Thanos would respond?” - anon
Reader : male (he/you)
A/N : bold is in English // pt.1 420. - pt.3 Together

Despite your choice, when everyone had voted, you walked back to your boyfriend, ready for him to annoy you for choosing X.
And it didn’t miss.
“I have no problem with you choosing X, we can still play the games together, you’re in my team forever, but why did you choose X ? Huh ?”
“So you’re not totally okay with it.” You pointed out.
“I am !”
“No you’re not, stop lying.” You said in a singsong voice, trying to not show your annoyance.
He sighed.
“You have debts, right ? That’s why you’re here. Does 20 million suffice you ? With another game you could have way more. Debt free and maybe even rich !”
You just hummed, no longer wanting to participate in the conversation.
“What would you do with 45.6 billion ?”
“Get away from you.” You replied without looking at him, searching for 388.
“Ah, don’t say that.” He moved his hand to pat your head but you dodged it. “Stop being so-”
“Being so what ?” You glared at him. “Mad about nearly dying because of someone I trust ?”
He looked at you silently before sighing.
“I’m sorry.”
“I know.”
“I didn’t mean to push you.”
“I know.”
“I never-”
“I know.” You said a bit louder, hoping he’ll get the memo to leave you alone.
He pouted, upset, but didn’t bother you anymore.
Then, a group of circles came in with small boxes of food, asking you to get in line to get your portion.
Thanos was sitting next to you, mixing the yolk of his fried egg with his rice and slices of fish sausages. Namgyu and him were talking back and forth about MG Coin and the money he made them lose until you suddenly stood up and walked away.
“You’re not gonna eat it ?” He asked, taking the small box in his hand to point to your untouched egg. You didn’t reply.
He shrugged, separating the yolk from the white and adding it to his mixture.
On the other side of the room, 388 kept yelling “Ay !” each time 390 hit his arm. You wondered, amused, if they were doing okay, standing a bit to the side, waiting for them to be finished.
That’s when 001 noticed you.
“Can we help you ?” He asked, tilting his head, the group’s focus shifting to you.
“Huh…” You didn’t know what to say, caught off guard, before turning to 388. “I wanted to thank you for saving my life. Thank you so much !”
You were about to bow but 388 rushed to you, stopping you from properly thanking him.
“Ah, no need to bow, really. I just-” The tip of his fingers gently tapped your arm. “I just did what I had to do- Couldn’t stand there and let it happen…” He added with a light chuckle.
You wanted to argue back but 390 spoke before you.
“You saved him ?” He asked, pointing at you.
“Yeah, my boyfriend pushed me right before a red light. I tripped and he caught me. I wouldn’t be here without him.” You said, smiling at 388. “Thank you.”
“Your boyfriend ?” 390 repeated, surprise evident in his voice.
“Yes.” You replied without thinking, before realizing this place could be far from being a safe space.
Everyone stared at you as you smiled awkwardly.
“Are you two gonna be okay ?” 388 asked quietly after a moment of silence.
You looked over your shoulder, eyeing Thanos and Namgyu still talking.
“Yeah.” You frowned, an evident lie. “Everything’s fine.” You gave him two thumbs up. “Totally doesn’t wanna kill him a little bit.”
“He… pushed you ?” 456 slowly asked. “Voluntarily ?”
You nodded.
“Yeah. Well-” You sighed. “He didn’t know that was me.” You flashed them another awkward smile.
Silence.
“And you’re still calling him your boyfriend ?” 001 finally asked. Both curious and slightly impressed. People generally break up after a situation like this.
You nodded, giving him a shrug.
“I’m alive so… Mh.”
390 scoffed, turning around to look at Thanos as he whispered something about today’s youth.
“Can I stay with you, though ?” You asked, fidgeting with your fingers, smiling weakly. “Don’t really wanna hang with him at the moment. And he voted O, so… I know he’s gonna spend the rest of his time here pressuring me into voting O as well.”
001 and 388 looked down at their chests, and that’s when you noticed their blue patches.
“Well, I mean, like…” You cracked your knuckles, chuckling nervously.
“It’s okay.” Said 388. “We’re not gonna force you to vote O.” He laughed, patting your back. “Right ?”
“No.” Smiled 001, scooting to the side to give you a place to sit.
While you presented yourself to the group, thanking them for accepting to take you in, Thanos was scowling, quickly understanding you wanted to spend time away from him.
Though he knew you loved him and stubbornly kept showing him your affection despite everything, there was now a nagging thought that maybe you could get a change of heart because of 388. Just because he happened to save your life after one little mistake.
That asshole was acting like a prince in shining armor.
Then Namgyu pulled him out of his thoughts, wanting to pay MG Coin a courtesy visit. Thanos quickly hummed, gladly accepting anything that’d take his mind off of you and what happened. He stood up, following him.
“That crypto ruined my life too.” 333 replied to Namgyu. “That’s why I’m here, to make money.”
“That’s right.” Thanos said, facing him. “You better make a lot of money. Because of that damn coin I lost over 500 million won, the money I earned from busting my ass rapping.”
“I lost 300 million.” Added Namgyu.
“You better win the games and make loads of money to pay us back.”
“I get it. Can you go away now ? I’m trying to eat-” Myunggi replied frustrated as Namgyu took his food.
“You little shit, eating like a fucking pig.”
“Give it back.”
“No.”
Thanos took the small box from Namgyu’s hands.
“You want to eat this so badly ?” He asked, smiling. “Then Thanos will feed you.”
He grabbed a handful of rice before slapping it on Myunggi’s face as the man yelped, disgusted.
“Good, isn’t it ?” Thanos laughed before Myunggi threw himself on him, the two falling on the floor loudly as they cursed.
You and the group you were with quickly noticed them. You sighed, rubbing your forehead, too tired to want to deal with it. You closed your eyes, maybe if you ignored it, it would go away ?
“It’s good to be young. They still have the energy to do that.” You heard Daeho say.
“He might get really hurt. Someone should stop them.” Jungbae added.
“I know… me ?”
But right as he said that you felt someone stand up next to you. Youngil.
“Boys, what are you doing in the middle of mealtime ?” He asked. “No fights during mealtime. There are elders present. Mind your manners. And two against one ? Aren’t you embarrassed ?”
You listened as Thanos and Youngil spoke for a brief moment. Then you heard people gasp. You looked through your fingers, seeing Youngil holding Thanos by the throat, Namgyu on the floor holding his leg, visibly in pain.
Oh.
Thanos walked back to him after Youngil had released him, only to be punched in the chest and stomach before grabbing his arm and twisting it. You could hear it crack from where you were.
Oh fuck.
Youngil was now above your boyfriend, strangling him and ready to punch him again. You hated Thanos at the moment but you still didn’t want him to actually die.
“Oh my- God- Damn. Youngil !” You called, quickly standing up to rush to them, nearly tripping on your way down. Shit, shit, shit. “Please, excuse him.” You approached them, rubbing your hands in a begging manner as Thanos looked at you as if to tell you to fucking do something.
“I’m sorry.” He said weakly, struggling to speak as he patted the man’s wrist, looking back at him.
“Please, Youngil. He’s not in his right mind.” You pleaded, falling to your knees. You wanted to grab his hand to stop him but feared it would only make things worse.
“Please…” Thanos squeezed his eyes shut. Was it how he’s gonna die ? “Let me go...”
After a few long seconds, Youngil finally released him, slowly standing back up as people applauded him.
You let out a relieved sigh, Thanos coughing as you placed your hands on him to help him sit up.
“Thank you.” You said quietly, rubbing your boyfriend’s back. “It won’t happen again.”
Youngil gave you a look, visibly not understanding why you were with that manchild.
He walked away as you rested your forehead against Thanos’ shoulder.
“Fucking scared me.” You mumbled.
As Thanos recovered, you gently gave the back of his head a slap.
“Don’t do it again.” You said, helping him stand up. “Don’t want your stupid ass to die.”
Thanos said nothing, rubbing his throat as he looked at Youngil sitting back with 456.
Slowly everyone went back to what they were doing, minding their own business.
Namgyu sighed, head resting against the wall as he quietly cursed Youngil.
Thanos was chewing his cheeks, one hand rubbing where he had been punched, thinking.
“Why were you with them ?” He suddenly asked, pointing toward the group you previously were with.
“Because Daeho saved my life. And I didn’t wanna-”
“Daeho ? So you know his name ?”
You looked at him silently before replying.
“I went to thank him and we exchanged names.” You rolled your eyes. “It’s basic decency to know the name of the one you owe your life to, no ?”
He scoffed, leaning back against the wall.
“Are you jealous ?” You asked, looking at him.
“No.”
That was a lie. Your attention was on another person and he was not a fan of it.
“Good, then.” You replied with a nod, noticing your small bento-like box they had given you earlier. “Did you eat my egg yolk ?”
“I asked you but you didn't reply.” He shrugged.
You sighed slowly. Today really was a long and bad day.
Nighttime came and Namgyu climbed to his bed a few minutes before the lights were off. You stood up to do the same, but Thanos stopped you, grabbing your wrist.
“Where are you going ?”
“My bed.”
“No you’re not.” He replied, pulling on your arm. You sighed. It’s true you haven’t slept alone in a long time and got used to having him next to you. And it was evident Thanos felt the same. But you were still insanely mad at him. “Come on, I said I was sorry, I didn’t mean to push you.”
“I know, you’ve said it a thousand times already.”
“Because it’s true ! How many time will I have to-”
“If I accept to sleep with you will you shut up ?” You cut him off. He smiled, letting go of your wrist with a nod. “Then scoot the fuck away, these bed are small as shit.”
As the lights were off for what seemed a good while, you quietly turned around, facing your boyfriend. You thought he was already out, since he’s usually fast asleep.
He almost made you jump when you heard him whisper.
“Did you tell them I pushed you ?”
“Daeho’s team ? Yeah.”
“Why ?!” He whisper-yelled. “Are you really that mad to send someone after me ?”
“What ?” You said a bit too loudly before lowering your voice again. “Yes I’m that mad but no he didn’t go after you because of me. The topic came up because they wondered why I was thanking Daeho. You got your ass handed to you because of your own damn self. You really know how to piss people off.”
There was silence. You could tell Thanos was scowling.
“Are you gonna sleep now or piss me off ?” You asked.
“Why didn’t you try to stop your friend harder than that ? I could’ve died. It’s fine when I almost meet death but not when it’s you ?”
Enough.
“Fuck you.” You stood up, and walked away before climbing to your bed, ignoring Thanos calling you.
Morning came way too soon, music playing through the speakers as a voice announced the imminent start of the second game.
You all followed each other until you reached a large room, two colored circles on the ground as a voice welcomed you for the game.
“This game will be played in teams. Please divide into teams of five in the next ten minutes.” Said the voice before repeating itself.
You walked around, searching for people to team up with until you felt hands on your shoulders.
“Babe, you’re gonna team up with us, right ? Team Thanos. ” He asked, making you turn around. He had Namgyu and some other guy with them.
“Are you serious ?” You looked at him, unamused. “No.”
“Ah, come on, stop being so mad at me ! You’re not gonna find 4 people to play with you.”
“Fucking watch me, then.” You replied, walking away. You already knew who you could join. But when you found them, it seemed like you were too late.
There was a young girl with them, anxiously holding her belly. Daeho noticed you quickly.
“Ah, we’re sorry [Name]. I thought- we thought you were gonna team up with your boyfriend.” He said, looking at you with an apologetical face, visibly upset to see you still didn’t have a team.
“Oh. Yeah. Well.” You shrugged, unsure of what to reply. “It’s fine, not gonna fight her over it. I’ll find another team.” You said with a nod, already walking away.
“Good luck !” You heard him say, you smiled, giving him a thumbs up.
“You too !”
Now you were beginning to stress. You refused to play with Thanos and the team you could’ve been with had already found their fifth partner.
Thanos eyed you from time to time, wanting to make sure you’d find a team by the end of the 10 minutes.
“So are you accepting us or not ?” Asked 380.
He nodded, making a sign with his hands.
“Of course.”
Slowly, you managed to find yourself a team. Though you found it a little bit funny as you were in the same group as Myunggi.
“I’m sorry for his behavior.” You had told him, lowering your head. “Can’t promise he’ll be off your back.”
He scoffed. Of course, he already knew it.
You watched anxiously as the first two teams got called, and got their feet handcuffed together.
You swallowed thickly, eyeing the timer every ten seconds. They could make it. They could make it. They could make it.
They didn’t make it.
You grimaced as the 10 of them got shot, fearing for your life once more. You rubbed the X on your chest, trying to get some luck out of it and hoping that next time, more people would vote X and you’d go home.
The following teams succeeded together, reassuring you just a bit. This was possible. You sighed, grabbing the person’s arm next to you for a small celebration as he clapped and cheered for the winning teams.
Later came yours and Thanos’ turn, each team going at the start of the circle.
Though you knew it was possible to win, you were anxious. You didn’t know your team members except one, vaguely. You had to trust them and their ability in succeeding each game.
You tried to calm yourself, not wanting to stress about yours and Thanos’ life. He could make it, he seemed confident, or more accurately, not worried about it, not caring about what was at stake. You hoped this mindset would help him.
You focused on remembering how you played gonggi, trying to wake up your muscle memory.
You cracked your wrists and knuckles, focusing, relaxing. No one was here but you and your friends. No one would die.
You squatted down, sighing slowly to exhale all anxiety inducing thoughts.
Swiftly you threw the rocks, no longer breathing, too focused on them to do both.
“Breathe, idiot ! Do you want us to die ?!” Yelled Myunggi, noticing your red face as the five rocks rested on the back of your hand. You were so close, you couldn’t fail now.
“Shut up.” You replied, breathing shakily again.
You threw your hand up, the rocks flying in the air before quickly grabbing them all. You froze, not daring to look up at the masked man who made an O with his arms.
“Success.”
You nearly fell back in shock, your teammates stopping you from doing so by pulling you up to walk to the next game.
You blacked out while the man to your right played spinning top, your mind fuzzing like a static TV screen. It’s on your way down the corridors that you came back to your senses, Thanos talking your ears off about how cool his team was.
“Minsu was so good at gonggi, like-” He said, making whooshing sounds and moving his hand in the air as if he was playing the game right now. “And Namsu’s knee kept hitting mine like a metronome.” He added, laughing, his legs now shaking to imitate Namgyu.
“Huh ?”
“It was so fun, wasn’t it ?”
You didn’t reply. Fun wasn’t really how you had perceived it.
“What game did you play ?”
“Gonggi.”
“Ah !” He exclaimed as he hit your arm “I remember you used to play harder variants than the one we just did, right ? Must’ve been easy peasy.”
“Mh.”
“Are you still mad at me ? Is that why you’re being so dry ?”
You sighed, rubbing the bridge of your nose.
“Yes, I am still mad. But no, I’m dry because I don’t like being held at gunpoint.” You replied, feeling your anger build up again.
“What do I have to do to make you forgive me ?” He whined with a sigh.
“I don’t know !” You began to walk faster to put some distance between you two. “Maybe vote X that’ll help a bit ? Just an idea.”
“No way, I’m not leaving with only 20 million.”
“Then I guess you’re stuck with angry ol’ me.” You heard him groan. “Or we could still break up. You won’t have to worry about my forgiveness.” You added with a wry smile. Tired of constantly having to explain your anger.
He froze, shocked. You wanted to break up ? He panicked for a second, before rushing back to your side.
“What ?! No way ! You’re stuck with me ! My boyfriend !” He said, wrapping an arm around your shoulders, scared you would actually act on your words.
You rolled your eyes, pushing him away before speeding again.
“Is it because of that guy ?!” He asked, speeding as well.
“Who ?”
“Daeho. Or whatever. You kept mentioning him.”
You turned around to look at him with a confused look.
“I only did when you asked me about him ? What the fuck are you on about ?”
“Because he saved your life !”
“Yeah, because you nearly ended it. Did you forget ?”
He said nothing, scowling, scratching the back of his neck.
“I told you I didn’t mean to.”
“And yet it happened.” You sighed. “I really think we should break up.” You added, walking away. “I’m tired.”
Thanos stared at you, unable to process what you just said. Break up ? With him ?
When you reached the lobby, you didn’t go straight to your bed like Thanos had thought you would, but instead went where 456 and his group were the day before. Waiting for them.
Time passed, leaving you time to think. Were you too harsh ? Should you have forgiven him ? Were you too resentful ? You still loved him but right now all you wanted was to be away from him. Put more space between you two than what the lobby allowed. And at the same time, you were glad he was still in the same room.
You heard the door open, Daeho and his team entering.
You smiled weakly at him, glad he had survived. You wouldn’t have to stay alone in a room full of already made up groups.
He sat next to you, sighing, exhausted.
“What did you play ?” You asked quietly as the others sat down as well.
“Gonggi.” He replied, wiggling his right hand.
“Oh, me too !” You both smiled, giggling together. “I’m glad you made it. I promise I’ll find a way to repay you when we get out of here.”
“Ah, no way.” He patted your back. “Just, sort things out with your boyfriend then maybe we’ll be even.”
“I uh, broke up with him.”
Daeho looked at you with a shocked expression, his smile dropping.
“Are you okay ?”
“Yeah.” You replied with a nervous laugh before looking down. You kinda felt sick.
Daeho rubbed your back, trying to comfort you, as Thanos watched with a sour face.
Fucking prick. Stealing his boyfriend.
He wanted to have a chat with him, but he was in 001’s team. He could definitely beat him up but not 001, but if that man came to die in a game, it’s on sight.

𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐤 (part one)
part two part three
Se-mi x gn! reader
synopsis: Se-mi wants to calm you down :)
A/N: this one is dedicated to my bsf, who’s obsessed with Se-mi
──── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──────── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ────
"Señorita, huh? What an idiot," Se-mi scoffed.
You were both sitting on one of the metal bunk beds crammed into the common room. The air was heavy with the scent of sweat and fear, a reminder of how many lives had been lost during the last game. Around you, other players were either huddled in small groups, whispering anxiously, or lying silently on their beds, too drained to speak.
Somehow, you had survived again. And somehow, you had also gained… a new friend? You weren’t entirely sure how it had happened. While you were frantically trying to find a group before the game started, a pretty girl had approached you, her voice calm despite the chaos. "Mind if I join you?" she’d asked, and you had accepted her without even thinking.
Now, as you sat across from her, you couldn’t help but steal glances at her. There was something magnetic about Se-mi. Her sharp features, the way her jet-black hair fell loosely around her face, and those piercing eyes that seemed to see right through you—all of it left you in awe.
It makes you couldn’t quite decide if you wanted to be her or be with her. The thought made your stomach churn, and you quickly pushed it aside, unsure if it was the tension of the games or something deeper stirring within you.
"Heeey? Are you even listening to me?" Se-mi waved her hand in front of your face, an amused smile playing on her lips.
You felt your cheeks heat up as you stared at her blankly, struggling to think of how to respond.
Her smirk only deepened as she leaned in closer, her voice dropping slightly. "What’s the matter? Am I making you shy?" she asked, tilting her head with an almost playful curiosity.
You opened your mouth to deny it, but no sound came out. The way her eyes lingered on yours made it impossible to think straight.
Se-mi chuckled softly, leaning back just enough to give you space. "Don’t worry, it’s cute. I like it when you get all flustered like that," she said, her tone as casual as if she were talking about the weather. "But try to keep up, okay? I’d hate to lose an adorable teammate like u”.
“Is she flirting with me?” u thought to yourself. You weren’t sure if you were reading too much into her words or if Se-mi was deliberately toying with you.
"I-I’m not flustered," you finally managed to stammer, but your shaky voice betrayed you completely.
Se-mi raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced, and her smirk returned in full force. "Oh, really? Then why are you blushing so much, huh?" She leaned forward slightly, resting her chin on her hand as she studied you, her eyes glinting with amusement.
You glanced away, desperate to change the subject, but the way she was looking at you made it impossible to focus on anything else. "I-it's just hot in here," you mumbled, although the cold, unwelcoming air of the common room was anything but.
Se-mi let out a soft laugh, shaking her head. "Sure, sure. Whatever you say," she teased.
"You know, you’re kind of fun to mess with. It’s a good distraction from all this… chaos."
Her words hung in the air for a moment, and you realized that, despite her playful tone, there was a hint of something more in her voice—something softer, almost vulnerable.
Before you could respond, she straightened up, brushing a strand of hair out of her face. "Anyway, we should probably figure out what’s next," she said casually, though her gaze lingered on you just a little longer than necessary. "I’m not planning on dying anytime soon, and I’d rather not do it alone. You’ll stick with me, right?"
The question caught you off guard, but there was no denying the warmth in her voice, even if it was buried beneath her usual confidence.
"Yeah," you replied softly, surprising yourself with how certain you sounded. "I’ll stick with you."
Se-mi grinned, satisfied. "Good. You’re smarter than you look, cutie."
A voice echoed from the speakers mounted on the ceilings, announcing that the lights would be turned off in five minutes, signaling the start of nighttime.
Players began retreating to their beds. You noticed a group that had set up some sort of "base," huddled together in one corner and using mattresses as barricades. Were they being paranoid, or did they know something you didn’t?
Could something really happen during the night? The thought sent a shiver down your spine. You glanced around the room, suddenly hyperaware of the tense atmosphere. Whispers filled the air, some players exchanging nervous glances while others silently adjusted their positions, keeping their backs against the walls.
Se-mi seemed unbothered—or at least she hid it well. She stretched her arms lazily before leaning back against the cold metal of the bunk bed.
"You don’t think…" you hesitated, lowering your voice to a whisper, "…someone might try something, do you? Tonight?"
“Hmm…” Se-mi glanced around the room, her eyes briefly scanning the other players.“Nah,” she said at last, her voice laced with a mix of amusement and indifference. “They don’t have the balls to do anything outside the games.”
Her casual dismissal didn’t sit right with you. “Oh, okay,” you mumbled, but the unease in your chest only grew.
You’d seen what these people were capable of. Especially that purple-haired maniac. He was killing people in the games like it was nothing. Even worse he seems to had fun doing it. It made your skin crawl. What was stopping someone like him from doing it again now, in the dark, where there were no rules?
Se-mi must have noticed the way your hands fidgeted nervously, or maybe it was the faraway look in your eyes. “Hey…” she said softly, moving closer to you.
Before you could react, her hand was on your cheek, her touch gentle yet steady, grounding you in the moment. “It’s gonna be okay,” she murmured, her voice softer than you’d ever heard it. “Just stay close to me, alright?”
Her thumb brushed lightly against your skin, and your breath hitched. The simple gesture, so unexpected and tender, made your heart flutter in a way you couldn’t ignore.
For a moment, the tension in the room faded into the background. All you could focus on was her—the warmth of her hand, the way her eyes held yours, and the faint trace of a smile tugging at her lips.

can you write a fic that's like billie x reader but both are basketballers on a different team??
𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙡𝙤𝙨𝙨

smut
the final buzzer blares, and for a second, everything goes silent. the gym feels like it’s frozen in time, the victory of your team hanging in the air as you watch billie stand in the middle of the court, her chest heaving, sweat dripping down her face. she doesn’t even look like she knows where she is for a moment, as if the loss hit her like a freight train. but then, she snaps back to reality, and you can almost feel the heat of her fury from across the court.
you don’t bother celebrating with your teammates. instead, you watch billie, waiting for her to react. she’s always been the sorest loser. you know she’s dying inside, but she won’t let it show—at least not yet. you’re about to make sure she doesn’t get away without acknowledging it.
you walk towards her, slow, deliberate, and you don’t even flinch when she glances up at you. the look she gives you is pure venom, her jaw tight, her eyes flashing with that familiar challenge. she’s not used to losing, especially not to you.
“congratulations, captain,” she sneers, the words dripping with sarcasm. “you finally got your win. it only took everything you had.” her voice is laced with a bitter edge, the kind of words that make it clear she hates you for having something she wanted so badly.
you can’t help the smirk that creeps up on your face. “yeah, it was a tough game, but someone had to put you in your place.”
her eyes narrow at you, but she doesn’t say anything more. she turns away, her shoulders stiff, and walks toward the changing room without another glance back at you. she’s practically seething, but you know her pride won’t let her show it. not yet, anyway.
you wait a beat, letting her get a few steps ahead before you decide to follow her. the gym is nearly empty now, just the two of you in the space, and you take your time walking toward the changing room. when you get there, the door’s slightly ajar, and you slip inside just as billie starts pulling her jersey over her head.
she doesn’t see you at first, too busy pulling the sweaty fabric off, probably trying to forget the game, forget everything that just went down. but then, you speak.
billie’s head whips around so fast you almost laugh at the way she looks like she could kill you just by staring. “what the hell are you doing here?” she growls, her voice low and dangerous, as if she’s ready to throw down right then and there.
you lean against the doorframe, arms crossed, watching her with a smirk. “could ask you the same thing. or, y’know, i could just enjoy watching you lose gracefully for once.”
her eyes narrow, lips pressed together tightly, clearly fighting to keep her cool. you can see the rage bubbling just under the surface, and it only makes you want to push her more.
without another word, she strides toward you, her fingers brushing your chin, forcing your face up to meet hers. the touch is shockingly soft, considering everything between you two, but it’s enough to make your heart beat a little faster. she looks at you like she owns the place.
her thumb slowly traces your bottom lip, the contact sending a pulse of heat through your body. “that pretty mouth of yours is always talking,” she murmurs, her voice practically dripping with honeyed venom. “do something worthwhile and put it to work, yeah?”
you swallow, her words settling deep in your chest, the tension between you two so thick it could be cut with a knife. but you don’t back down. not now. not ever.
you gag slightly on her fingers and she continues to make her way down your body, kissing every inch of you that she had memorized, despite the hatred she felt for you and your team. she took her fingers out of your mouth and brought them down to your clit slowly toying with it, teasing you.
you whimper from the pleasure, you needed her now. “are you ever going to do something?” you snark at her. “well you gotta speak up baby, always talking trash on the court, never know when to shut up huh baby?” she pauses for a second kissing your thigh “only thing i wanna hear out of your mouth are your pretty moans got it?”
“yeah no not happening, you don’t even know how fucking play—” your words get cut off with billie sinking her fingers into your pussy curling them at the exact spot making your eyes roll to the back of your head.
“yeah that’s right, my fingers fucking you so good it’s got you shutting the fuck up”

was there a lifetime waiting for us?
PAIRING. miya atsumu x reader SONG. lifetime by ben&ben TAGS. exes, angst.
NOTES. kinda rushed lol.

“MSBY Black Jackals setter Miya Atsumu announces his engagement.”
The sudden news came early in the morning of spring, just around the time everyone began their day. It certainly came as a surprise to you, who had seen the news on a large screen outside while drinking your coffee.
The headline was loud and clear, written in bold, capital letters. “In Miya-sans announcement via social media, he states that he has ‘found someone to spend eternity with.’ He also thanks his fans for their support. MSBY Black Jackals will be playing against Schweiden Alders tonight in Osaka.” The announcer says.
You find yourself huddled over your phone, too occupied with Atsumus life to worry about yours. His name is on the search bar, and you’re reading every article the internet has to offer. So he’s found someone, you think, letting out a deep sigh as you turn your attention to the cherry blossoms swaying in the air.
You remember it clearly, the night after the two of you graduated. After all, it was the night you two had broken up. While Atsumu had been set on becoming a professional player in Osaka, you had Tokyo in your mind for university. Two different dreams, two different cities, and two very different schedules—you couldn’t handle it.
Atsumu held onto your hand tightly. “Four years…” he muttered to himself, eyes on the ground as the two words circled his brain over and over again.
“What?” You teased. “You can’t even wait four years for me, your beloved?”
“What are you saying?” He looked back at you, brows furrowed, slightly offended you’d even doubt him. “Of course I can wait four years. Once you move to Osaka, we can get married.”
“Too early,” you waved him off, laughing. “We’ll be twenty-two, Tsumu. Let’s take our time.”
“But a lot can change in four years,” he said, slightly wincing at the last two words. “Maybe at that point, we’ll want to start a family and…”
You reached for his cheeks, kissing his forehead in hopes of cutting him off. “We can think about that when the time comes,” you tell him. “Four years is four seasons in the league, and perhaps even four championship titles. A family can wait.”
“But you’ll be there, right?” He asked. “In four years, you’ll be in Osaka with me?”
“In March,” you smiled at him confidently. “Right when the cherry blossoms bloom in late March, I’ll be there.”
“I can wait that long,” he finally concludes. “If it’s you, I’m willing to wait that long.”
***
You know you could’ve skipped out on this game (one seat empty wouldn’t matter for the famous MSBY, you think), but a part of you wanted to see it for yourself. To see that he’s happy, that he moved on. Perhaps you wanted to hurt him the same way he did to you.
The lights dim, signaling the start of the game. You keep your eyes on the door where the MSBY team will enter, waiting for the moment you will see him again. They exit in their own unique way, MSBY. Bokuto leads the pack, overflowing with energy. His arms are up and waving, encouraging the audience to scream a little louder. Hinata and Sakusa follow, and soon enough, he makes his entrance.
His yellow dyed hair is neatly parted to the side, and his smile so unconvincing as he waves to the crowd. He looks up at your section, and his eyes immediately lock with yours—the same hazel eyes that used to greet you with so much love, now looks at you with great shock.
The game ends after an hour. The mistakes in Atsumus performance was evident—it was the one thing the audience wouldn’t stop talking about. “Maybe he got nervous after announcing his engagement,” one girl says as she passes by you, reminding you that he’s no longer yours. MSBY still won their game, and Atsumu is now engaged. In the end, he’s reached a satisfying ending without you in the story.
Damn it, you mutter to yourself. Frustration takes over your mind and body as you lose yourself in the venue. You dammned Black Jackals and your…
Your name echoes in the empty hallway and it’s Miya Atsumu, who rides on the waves of energy and confidence, calling for your so tenderly. You expected him to be down about his lack of success in the game to even think of you, yet he’s here, calling out your name. You rush, speed walking to the exit in hopes of leaving him behind.
But he gets to you before you get the chance to do so. His hands reach for yours, and you instinctively pull away. He says your name once more, soft and loving in the same way he always did four years ago. “You’re here…”
“Just like I’d promised,” you tell him, faux smile spread across your lips. “Telling me wouldn’t have hurt, you know.“
“Y/N, I’m sorry.”
You shake your head. “Was it that hard to wait, Atsumu?” The sharpness in your tone as you say his name for the first time in ages hit him like poison. “You said that if it was me, you’d wait four years.”
“A lot can change in four years,” he merely says.
“And you should’ve told me,” you retort. “Even if it destroyed me beyond repair, you should’ve told me when it all started to change. Instead of dreaming about our future while you thought of someone else, I could’ve focused on my studies without you—without Osaka as my end goal.”
He reaches for you once again, but the result remains the same. “Y/N…” he says, voice now hopeless. “Don’t do this…”
“You told me,” you smile once again as tears threaten to leave your eyes. “You told me we’d get married. Did you really move on so easily?”
His lips part, but before he could reply, his phone buzzes. Pulling out his phone and looking at the notification displayed on screen, he sighs. “I have to go,” he says slowly, refusing to meet your gaze. “She’s…waiting for me.”
“I see…” you take a peek at his phone, only to find it dim and protected. You watch as he shoves his phone back in pocket, his other hand rubbing his temple. “Does she make you happy?” The question you’d held back on slip out unconsciously.
He looks up, studying you carefully knowing this will be the last time he sees you. “Not as much as you do.”
You let out a soft laugh, your heart shattering—his words the cause. “That’s the mistake you’ll have to live with for eternity.”
You turn around and open the door. “Y/N,” he calls for you one last time, his tone bringing you back four years when the two of you, who didn’t know any better, were laying down on his roof, taking in the spring breeze. “If it all fails, can I look for you once again?”
You smile bitterly, bowing at him. “Miya-san,” you say, your voice soft and tender. “Congratulations on your engagement.”

Always the loser, never the winner

“And I’m sorry I left, but it was for the best— thought it never felt right.”
Choi Su-bong/Thanos x sick!ex reader warning. swearing, not proof read, might be OOC, no happy ending, mentions of drugs
genre. angst
The night Choi Su-bong walked out of your life was the coldest one you could remember. You were sick—seriously sick—and he had tried, God, he had tried, to make it work. He worked every odd job he could find alongside his dream of becoming a rapper, borrowed money from anyone who would listen, and skipped meals just to make sure you had enough to eat. But the medical bills piled up, and the debt collectors came knocking. He saw no way out.
The decision to leave was supposed to save you. He told himself that over and over as he packed his things in the dead of night. Without him, you’d be eligible for financial aid. Without his debts dragging you down, you’d have a chance to survive. But when he walked out that door without a word, it broke him. He thought it was the only way to show you he loved you; by disappearing.
Months passed. He tried to drown his guilt in drugs, hoping to maybe one day get back to you, however once he made the grave mistake of investing into a damn bitcoin— his life came crashing down on him. His debts only grew and to him there was only one possible solution to his depressive life; suicide.
Then the invitation came. A strange card, offering the promise of a fortune. Su-bong didn’t hesitate—he had nothing left to lose. It was like a sign from god, an angel sent from heaven telling him his life hasn’t lost its purpose just yet.
The games were brutal, but he clung to one thought to keep himself alive: if he won, he’d find you again. He’d make things right.
But then he saw you.
The first round had ended, the survivors headed back into the dormitory. He was scanning the crowd, taking stock of the competition, when his eyes landed on you. You were standing near the corner, pale but determined, your jaw set with the same stubbornness he always loved. His heart stopped.
“No,” he whispered under his breath, his legs nearly giving out beneath him. You didn’t notice him at first, too preoccupied with your own fear and confusion. But when the second game began, and players were called to choose teams, you spotted him. Your eyes met across the room.
“Su-bong? .. Or should I say Thanos?”
His name on your lips felt like a punch to the gut. He couldn’t move, couldn’t breathe, as the weight of what he’d done crashed down on him. You were here because of him. Because he’d left you with nothing.
You marched toward him, your expression a mixture of disbelief and fury. “What the hell are you doing here?” “I could ask you the same thing,” he managed to choke out, his voice coming off a bit harsher then intended . “I didn’t have a choice,” you snapped, your voice breaking. “I needed money, and I thought—” You stopped, shaking your head as tears filled your eyes. “No. You don’t get to ask me that. You left me.”
“I—” He reached out, but you stepped back. “You left me to die, Su-bong.” He couldn’t argue. He wanted to tell you why, to make you understand, but what could he say? That he thought abandoning you was love? That he thought you’d be better off without him? It all sounded so empty now, standing here in this nightmare. The announcement for the next game interrupted you. You were forced apart, thrown into a world where survival meant stepping over others. He watched you from a distance, unable to protect you, hating himself more with every passing second.
You both however survived the games, a weight lifting off of your chest once you stepped into the dormitories you learned to love— because it meant you got to live another day.
Then the votes came. You pressed O, having nothing to loose since you were already dying from this god forsaken sickness you were cursed with anyway.
Su-bong didn’t know, but a part of you blamed yourself for everything—for the debt, for his departure, for the way your once-perfect life unraveled. When he left, thinking it would save you, he didn’t realize the crushing weight of the medical bills would fall squarely on your shoulders. The debt collectors didn’t stop; they simply shifted their focus. And in the cruelest twist of fate, his absence had effectively wiped away his debts while doubling your own. You hated yourself for it. Hated that you had become a burden, that your illness had destroyed the life you’d built together. You’d loved Su-bong since high school, falling for his charm and his stubborn determination. Your relationship had been solid, a rare kind of love most would say he’s incapable of.
But sickness had a way of poisoning everything. You’d watched as his shoulders slumped under the weight of your medical expenses, as his bright smile dimmed with every overdue notice. And then, one day, he was gone, leaving nothing behind but a note you could barely bring yourself to read.
It was perfect, once. You’d wake up to his warm laughter and fall asleep to his whispered promises of forever. But in the end, love hadn’t been enough to keep you together.
One night, as the others slept, you found yourself sitting beside him in the dark. Neither of you spoke for a long time, the silence heavy with everything left unsaid. Finally, you broke it.
“Did you know your debts were cleared when you left?” you asked, your voice quiet. Su-bong froze, his gaze snapping to yours. “What?” “I got stuck with all of it,” you admitted, staring at the floor. “The medical bills, the loans—they all fell on me after you left. You thought you were saving me, but you only made it worse.” His face crumpled, and for the first time, you saw the depth of his regret. “Shit, I— I didn’t know,” he whispered, his voice breaking. “I thought I was doing the right thing. I thought... I thought you’d be free.” You let out a bitter laugh, shaking your head. “Free? Su-bong, I lost everything. My health, my home, you. I had nothing left.” “I’m so sorry,” he said, his voice barely audible. “I was so fucking stupid. I should have stayed. I should’ve fought harder.” “Yeah, you should’ve,” you said, your voice trembling with anger and heartbreak. “We could’ve figured it out together, but you didn’t give me a choice. You just left.” “I was scared,” he admitted. “Scared of watching you suffer, scared of failing you. I thought you’d hate me if I stayed.”
You looked at him then, tears streaming down your face. “I didn’t hate you, Su-bong. I loved you. I still love you, even after everything.” His breath hitched, and for a moment, you saw a flicker of the boy you’d fallen in love with all those years ago. “I love you too dumbass,” he said, his voice cracking but a teasing tone in his. “I never stopped.”
But there was no time for reconciliation, no room for hope in a place like this. The next day, another game began, and the stakes were higher than ever. Su-bong tried to shield you, to take risks so you wouldn’t have to, but the games didn’t care about love or sacrifice.
After Mingle, the vote came to a tie. You were on the O side, earning glares from many, but you didn’t care.
You noticed Su-bong get up and walk away. “Hey—where are you going?” you whisper-yelled, raising a brow. He turned around with a sigh before coming back to you. “I’m going to take a piss. Wanna come, princess?” he smirked, amused as your face turned bright red. “No—go! Ew, what the hell?” You pushed him away, but a chuckle escaped your lips despite yourself. He ruffled your hair and left without another word, leaving a small smile on your face.
“We’ll get out of here, and everything will get better…” you murmured to yourself. A low chuckle beside you made you flinch.
It was Player 001.
“What makes you think he actually cares for you?” His tone was soft but laced with an aggravating edge, a barely noticeable smirk playing on his lips. “What?” you asked, frowning. “I mean… didn’t you see him doing those drugs during Red Light, Green Light? He’s probably going to get out of here and waste all of your money on his happy pills,” he said casually, glancing down at you as you sat frozen in place.
Your heart stopped. ‘What? But he said he was sober..’ you thought, confusion clouding your mind as doubts about Su-bong resurfaced. “Why so nervous?” the man pressed, leaning against a nearby bed. “Did you realize your boyfriend over there isn’t as trustworthy as you thought?” His words stung, but before you could respond, you noticed more X voters entering the bathrooms, making your chest tighten with panic. “What? I—no.” You stood quickly, intending to rush to the bathroom, but he grabbed your shoulder with a firm grip. “Be careful with your decisions,” he said, his voice low and ominous. “This place is life or death—remember that.”
You tried to push past him, but he pulled you into a secluded corner where neither the O nor X voters could see. “What are you doing? Let me go!” you protested, thrashing against his hold. His grip didn’t loosen. “Shhh,” he whispered, his expression unreadable. You struggled, tears pooling in your eyes. ‘No— no.. no Su-bong he’s in danger I need to—‘ Your body slowly started giving up— you were surprised it even held out for this long but sickness has a way of manipulating your way of thinking. Sometimes you think you’re as healthy as one can be but then before you know it.. death is gently kissing your cheek.
‘Su-bong..’ He was the only thing on your mind as your consciousness slipped from your fingers. A sharp pain stung your heart, almost like a bullet as you heard one last thing, something you certainly did not want to hear.
“Player 230 eliminated.”
No, he promised. He promised you’d get out— together. You fell for his stupid lies and promises yet again, you let your guard down and got hurt again, but this time it wasn’t just a petty break up.. a life was lost, a precious one to you at that and you couldn’t take it back.. not this time. ‘I hate you Choi Su-bong. I hate you for leaving me, I hate you for lying to me and tricking me yet again with your stupid charm and that stupid smirk. I hate you so so much.. But I can’t help but love you with my whole, sick being.’
