Tenoch Huerta and you had been close since you began shooting Narcos: Mexico back in 2018. There was an instant connection that no one explained yet all could see. You two stayed in touch, meet up weekly, and spent a lot of time together. You landed the role of Namor's lover and queen of Talokan for Wakanda Forever. It was exciting to work alongside Tenoch once more. You had a major crush on the man yet kept it to yourself.

Oscar Isaac is another close friend, you both worked together in Star Wars: The Last Jedi where your character was his characters Poe Dameron's ex-lover yet second-best pilot the resistance had. You admit to the small crush developed for Oscar. By the end of the franchise in Rise Of Skywalker your characters have gotten back together in a long kissing scene.

So of course the fans had gone crazy for shipping you with Oscar and Tenoch. Wondering which an is going to be lucky enough to land you as their girlfriend.

Today was the premier of Black Panther Wakanda Forever. You were so excited about being in the Marvel franchise now. Including working with any great people. Right now you had arrives with Oscar Isaac. The press went nuts interviewing you both.

"Would your characters ever meet?" One of them shouted out.

"Love triangle even?!" Another added.

You and Oscar both laughed cheeks flushed.

"Oh, I hope so that would be a good romance." He winked before wrapping an arm around you. Tenoch had been with another tv station not too far away. How his blood boils noticing who you brought. Lupita and Winston both encouraged him to ask you out. Even as his date to the premiere. Yet Tenoch never had the confidence.

He matched his way over there just in time to hear the question and response by Oscar.

"I don't think that Namor would let that happen." Tenoch adds rather seriously. You smiled brightly and pulled Tenoch into a hug. "Hey you!"

"Hey. While admit the love triangle would be cool a king would never let his queen go."

Oscar rolled his eyes, he knew Tenoch liked you," You sure? Marc is pretty slick with the women. Much like myself." He adds just wanting to see Tenoch clench his jaw.

"Oh boys. Come on. Settle down. Let's hurry along and sign some autographs." You thanked the interviewers before leading the two boys, who currently are acting like man children, off to where the fans are waiting.

You watched the movie sitting between the two boys. Many emotions were shown during the screening especially how it felt seeing you and Tenoch as your characters together for the first time.

After the premiere you all headed for the restroom because it was a very long movie.

"You know I am surprised you and (Y/n) aren't together yet." Oscar comments washing his hands beside Tenoch.

"What do you mean? I thought she came with you as her date." He adds a jealous gaze in his brown eyes.

"No just as friends. But if you won't make a move then I will." Oscar turned the water off reaching for a towel.

"Don't waste your time, Oscar."

The men both walked out looking for you.

Winston and you were both laughing and making jokes. He specially was hammering you for the details of why Tenoch and Oscar were as the fans said 'Simping' over you. You explained your history with both men. And how wondering it was to have them so close together now. But in your heart, Tenoch was the one of you.

"So ready to go to the after party?" Oscar asked.

"But as my date." Tenoch glared over to Estrada's direction.

Winston smirked at (Y/n) who had to choose. "Well boys... I am flattered. Really am."

"Then go out with me." Tenoch whispered giving you his brown sugar eyes.

All three of them are honestly kind of terrible for each other but she gets shoved aside in favor of the two dudes in most fics and is not allowed to grow past the toxic relationships of her past. Also she’s a cis woman who dresses pretty masculinely (because she’s in a mercenary band) so she gets type casted as the mean lesbian friend, when she’s straight in canon

Probably an instance of this being taken to canon, as Griffith (Traitor) tortures her to victimize Guts (protag), because Griffith's psychosexual desires to control everyone, especially Guts. Fandom types side with Griffith because he is an attractive white boy. 

She's an incredibly interesting character in her own right with really good dynamics and parallels to Griffith and Guts, and the way those three play off of each other is integral to the story, but most of what I've seen completely ignores her in favor of focusing on only Griffith and Guts

Shiv Roy

She's honestly kind of a canonical victim of yaoi almost. She and her husband Tom have a loveless marriage but never end up getting divorced. Tom has a weird psychosexual obsession with Shiv's cousin Greg and at one point literally compares them all to the time Emperor Nero pushed his wife down the stairs and then castrated and married a slave boy named Sporus (Tom is unwell). Anyway the show just ended and long story short Tom is now CEO of Shiv's family's evil company and she is reduced to being his pregnant wife (which is the result of her voting not to authorize either of her brothers as CEO in order to save them from themselves) and Tom made another weird comment about literally owning Greg. And now people who ship Tom and Greg are like "omg it's canon we won" but I don't. Think that they did. Sorry I'm rambling it was just a really good finale idek if this counts but

I will be honest I'm not really tuned into the tomgreg fandom, but tons of people wanted tom to leave shiv and get with greg and tons of people thought shiv was the devil incarnate and refused to see any nuance in her character and I don't think those two things are a coincidence. 

She gets a lot of hate from fans, largely just for being a woman who reacts in a non pretty way to abuse and for doing the exact same shitty stuff her brothers do. But also a large part of the hate she gets comes from the people who ship her husband with her cousin. To the point where people claim she's abusing her husband who views her as an accessory, a baby factory, and a ticket to money. Don't get me wrong, their relationship is incredibly toxic and unhealthy, but it is so on both of their parts. But Shiv's the only one who gets criticized for it

I do love the idea of there being a therapist for those sorts of families with mixed Human/Vulcan heritage. That would be so useful, and (undoubtedly) there would be a ton of comedic moments, too. (Not that the Vulcans would show their amusement, of course.)

3x12, Jamie edition, part 2.

Roy seeing Jamie and Keeley hugging, asking him out for a bear, letting Jamie fist bump him and suggesting he does this, being excited about spending time with Jamie. When early in the show Roy full on walked away from fist bumping and Jamie had to fist bump himself.

If anything, if I were to choose from the inside of this triangle, it's Roy and Jamie for me. They WORK. It would fix so much if they kissed and explored each other's bodies. All that "All I need is Keeley & you stay away from here" would disappear.

However, if we're talking het ships (which I dislike but ok), it's Jamie and Keeley for me. I'd love Keeley with someone new. I'd LOVE to, with boys being together. But between Roy and Jamie. Jamie is SUCH a much bigger man than Roy. Jamie has done all the work since s1. No one held his hand, he's done all the work himself. He never ever hit on Keeley again despite all his love for her. He's been respectful of her wishes and never pushed himself on her or on Roy with "She's mine." If anything, he went with "I respect you and your relationship with Keeley" & stayed out of the way.

All Roy canonically does is pushing herself on her and on Jamie about her. Both Keeley and Jamie deserve better than an insecure man that can't get his head out of his ass. It's like one hookup, he went kind of normal, then he's back to his old ways again. Like???

I genuinely think you should have some gay sex. That would fix you a bit, Roy. I'm sure of it. Jfc. Is it me or is Roy incredibly weird this ep? What's with "She's a woman"??? What's that misogyny? Overall, even with how much I ship OT3, I'm tired of when it's presented like an actual triangle/two people running after one. This is seriously going nowhere & considering this might be our episode EVER, I dislike that very much. And them bickering like children? You guys should fix it.

Like, I had a feeling Roy might try to pull off something like this since he saw Jamie and Keeley hugging and got jealous but omg. *rolls eyes* Be a bigger man for once, will you, before calling Jamie a child?

As always I would encourage you to take it easy where you can, friend :) I'm doing well, thank you for asking, and to answer your question, the reason I like those kinds of AUs and relationships isn't anything that complicated, I just...find them really wholesome ^^ With them, you're always guaranteed a certain level of fluff and slice-of-life goodness that's easy to imagine and can help get you through your day when you need that extra little bit of warmth in your day, ya'know? :D As for why I prefer it with some X-Men characters, well, I have two reasons. Firstly, with the multiverse being an extremely canon thing in Marvel, especially X-Men in this case, it makes the idea of these relationships and stories a kind of canon in themselves, and it's always so fun to explore that ^^ To explain that a little more and get into the second reason, when you're dealing with the X-Men, some of the most exciting and complex Marvel characters of all time, you know these situations are going to be more than just a daily routine, there's always going to be some twist/emotional adventure to explore along the way, and it adds a whole new depth to the situation. True, you could argue that to be the case with just about any fictional character but...c'mon, it's the X-Men! xD As for your soon-to-be recent viewing of the first two episodes of X-Men '97, I promise you a real treat, but, I am obligated to not spoil a thing ^^ Except this: OMG HANK FINALLY SAID THE THING!!! :DDDD

Also, yes, X-Men add a certain flair to the platonic yandere trope. Surprise, super-poweree genetically enhanced people, and this random teen/young adult/child who they somehow procured. Que a normal Tuesday of crazy villains, more insane humans, some weird relationship issues and the break-up then make-up, and (gasp) surprise! You have been blessed with this new character to love! They're called Reader, they can be sweet at times, they are willing to use a metal bat as a weapon, and oh, and they are as addictive to y'all as catnip is to cats!

hi there! i've been following you for quite a while, originally for a3, but i see you also enjoy poto. i've been meaning to get into it for a long time now, but im not sure where to start (so far, i've only ever read the book). do you have any recommendations for poto content to either start out with or to prioritize in general? thanks a ton!

Hi there anon!! this was a pleasant surprise to see in my inbox and I wasn't expecting to get questioned about POTO at all tbh! I'll try my best though 😊

I think starting with the musical would help, that's what actually lead me down the rabbit hole.

The most well known one would be Andrew Lloyd Webber's. This one is pretty similar to the book, if I recall correctly, having a some changes here and there (one of them being that the Persian isn't actually present in the musical.) I'd recommend either watching/listening to the broadway or the 2004 film, the latter being what introduced me to POTO in the first place hehe

There's also another musical by Maury Yeston and Arthur Kopit (which I've only discovered this year), though it is loosely based from the novel, and kinda shows the Phantom in a different light. I actually watched the 1990 miniseries first before listening to the musical, and I gotta say that the Phantom was very charming in this one, made me swoon a bit 🙈

Their music style is pretty different from one another, now I'm not that good with music terms and classifying the styles, but Yeston & Kopit's is more opera like compared to Webber's which is a sort of mix with opera, classical and a bit of rock maybe??? They are both bangers though, I swear.

I'm pretty sure there are other retellings and musicals based on it, but these two plus the book are the only ones I've consumed so far.

OH AND ONE MORE ACTUALLY!!

Webber actually made a sequel to his POTO musical called Love Never Dies and boY IS IT A RIDE. I think the fans have mixed feelings about it, it has great songs though omg. So so basically, it's ten years after the original musical and is set in an amusement park called Phantasma, and w/o saying anything about the plot, basically our main trio come together again and we get love triangle 2.0 with so much drama. Was honestly flabbergasted the first time I saw it ‘cause I went in blind but as I rewatched it for the 3rd time and listened to the soundtrack over and over again, I admit it's pretty good. In a trashy way. Do I recommend that you watch it? Honestly, yeah, it was a pretty wild ride and I was entertained, it was a good time despite everything about the plot. You don't have to though if you don't want to!!! Some people actually described it being fanficy or something along those line

But yeah, that's all I have to recommend, I hope this helps you somewhat!! Even though I was just rambling most of the times haha.

the reason for my presence in your inbox today is because I was looking thru the mako tag and saw ur avatar mako snippet. I then began to experience Thoughts and decided you might enjoy if I shared them :33

what I’ve been thinking about is the possible dynamics of this au because. tragic backstory x avatar is something we didn’t quite get w korra because all her Avatar Trauma happened during the show. however,,, mako and bolin got that orphan swag

so for one I wanted to reference one of your older posts about mako and lin having a history across each other at an interrogation table. just imagine how she feels seeing the little brat (who she’s almost certain is zolt’s little prodigy) turn out to be the avatar who she now has to tolerate and work with to protect the city that never gave him shit.

and besides the early momboss and detectiveson feelings (linzin reconciliation?? kyalin reveal????) the other dynamic is just mako and republic city as a whole. this was actually kind of touched on in canon w how korra had to acclimate to the entirely different world of a revolutionizing industrial city, but instead it would be mako learning to cherish the streets that had chewed him up and spat him back out.

another reason this would be cool is bcuz it already happens in the show as well. despite mako’s character being completely abandoned after the love triangle, his becoming a cop kind of shows that he has grown to want to protect his city. being a police officer in the atla-verse means you have a real devotion to your city—under a boss like lin, you just get replaced realll quick if you don’t (eg, those two guys who pissed on mako when varrick framed him for domestic terrorism or whatever was going on there).

it also can’t be only for money, because if it was he would’ve gone back to probending; something he was just indifferent towards. anyway, what I’m trying to say is that somewhere offscreen he had that development in view as he grew to want to protect the city for more reason than that it would keep he and his brother safe. so essentially, in the avatar mako au, he goes through that development earlier, when he’s still a kid.

this would probably also affect his personality. if he was taken care of earlier on, he wouldn’t have stonewalled himself away out of distrust for the rest of the world. so basically he’s a snappy, sarcastic little bitch by canon because he never taught himself to bite his tongue or die—it also parallels him to korra (cough and katara cough) a bit more which I thought was nice.

anyway!!! i'm enjoying your avatar mako thoughts so much omg. mako and bolin really do got that Orphan Swag:tm: and i do love a good trauma backstory avatar. (still no one could ever compare to korra but shh we all know she's the most superior avatar of all time in our hearts…)

woah i forgot to think about the potential of lin & mako's relationship in the context of the au as a greater entity. aughhhhafjkhafdhk she's probably be pissed as hell at the start; i feel like tiny avatar!mako is absolutely the stiff bitter kleptomaniac sort specifically designed to get on lin beifong's nerves like no one else and that would agiatate her SO MUCH. but i think that over time as she starts to see him for what he really is and sees a little more of the good in his heart, she'll… actually she'll still treat him pretty harshly because now she doesn't like that she sees herself in him, but she has a greater amount of empathy for him and in vulnerable moments, i think that she would actually turn out to be the adult figure that mako would be most willing to seek out, surprisingly.

also yes i'm really excited to explore how mako rekindles an actually kind relationship with this halfway awful city. i really want to steep it in culture and i think i'll project my experiences in taiwan onto it because it's such a place of all time. the idea of hole in the wall restaurants that could not possibly meeting the hygiene standards and the owners are tough and impersonal but also they're the most natural people to be around, and the food is the best you've ever tasted for the cheapest price possible as you hop from sagging overhang to sagging overhand, never sitting down for a full meal but something about the perpetual motion is so comforting. anyway. republic city taiwan allegory. just really want to write about that, roughly.

i agree about the point of cop!mako :P even though i have complicated feelings about his assumption of a role that had been one of the primary institutions that enforced the system of how he and bolin lived as kids, i also think that he views it as a twisted form of redemption for himself as a child that i frankly think he doesn't have to assume moral culpability for, but i also understand that it's the sort of tangible thing that i think a guy like him would need to ever feel worthy enough of living. i have a lot of thoughts about this that i will have to condense into actual words sometime later…

i'm a big fan of mako actually getting to express his salt. i think that canon mako (and bolin, to an extent) takes a great amount of effort to restrain the Absolute Heathen that he was raised as in order to fit in with this impossible to understand high class society. (it's actually a point i'm going to explore in the fic with this version!) but yeah i feel like there's a lot of carefully trained-out language and habits that must exist in both mako and bolin who are trying so hard to not be perceived as the children they were, because their public images are very dependent on the exterior that they put out to the world. they need to be passably proper to get a fanbase which might land them support from higher up people which might land them a sponsorship which might enable their team to actually rise above as underdog which might lead them to win the pot which might let them finally build a lives for themselves. anyway. honestly avatar!mako would absolutely be hypermonitored by tenzin about his vocabulary and habits (coughing at this excerpt i wrote some time back: "He forces his breath to settle in his chest and forces himself to be grateful that he doesn't have a cigarette that he can lose himself in; he doesn't need Tenzin catching one more of his bad habits to take away from him."). but i think that in the presence of korra who will piss him off SO MUCH he won't have the same qualms about trying to fit into high class society because he'll have settled into this actual protection and stability provided to him by adults for the past several years, and he'll allow himself more to slip back into cussing her out with the vehemence of a Trained Asshole. it'd be funny trust.

i dont think i enunciated that very well but i have also had many thoughts on language and habits that mako and bolin forced themselves to eject for the sake of their precarious position in society. i think that it's also an ingrained part of them that when they're older along in life and have more stability, i like to imagine that they might end up casually incorportating back because their lives don't depend on their manners LOL. older mako would be only half the foul-mouth that his younger self was but asami would still be extremely mortified tbh. and bolin would just be COMEDY ohh

I've talked about hatojose and/or hatochiro (separately) to so many people and those certain people have shared their thoughts about it too,,,,,,,,,

omg hi anon!! i'll be honest, my thoughts on the libido storyline are nothing particularly groundbreaking and probably v similar to other people's theories u mightve seen, But im gonna take this opportunity to talk abt them and post libido screencaps bc that mv is still sooo gorgeous

so in the mv, i think rie and junji are def supposed to represent a picture of comfort and stability 

like this is perhaps a long-term relationship where they know exactly where they stand with each other, and that’s a place of mutual desire and care <3 i esp love this shot of the two of them watching kyujung

like the knowing smile on junji’s face and the mild surprise + delight on rie’s. it reads very much like a couple seeing their friends who have been circling each other for ages in a will they won’t they stage finally do Something

which brings me to kyubin and yoojung who i think are in the role of the early stages of a relationship, with all the flirting and cautious touches and uncertainty. i think taeyeob said it best when explaining night flight for the pdm interim check, that this stage for kyubin and yoojung is like “how you know the flight will be dangerous, but that you trust the person and want to go on a romantic flight anyway”

despite the uncertainty and the danger, i think with them in the mv, you can see this absolute joy at finally embracing instinct and feeling this kind of freedom. like regardless of what obstacles may come up, they’ve made this leap and decided to take this chance together

in this aspect, i think both junrie and kyujung can be contrasted w lovemillnine. where junrie had taken that leap a while ago and kyujung have just taken it, lovemillnine, or at least part of them, still havent

they def have the most narratively juicy storyline out of the 3. to me personally, it definitely reads more like a love triangle mired by uncertainty and fear rather than cheating, but i def how it can be read as the latter

in the story, i think that love and mill were friends and almost-lovers before nine and love were — that love and mill were in that will they wont they stage but mill was afraid to take that leap, be it for fear that it wouldnt work out, shame, internalized homophobia, etc etc or any combination of those. and then nine became a part of the picture and was someone who desired love in the way that mill did, but without as much of the apprehension that mill had

the cinematography does such a good job at framing the tension and conflict present in this relationship the 3 of them have, this shot in particular is so striking to me 

the way mill is so close to the camera and nine and love are both farther away, along with the way he is looking over at nine, it creates this feeling that mill suddenly finds himself on the outside looking in at a situation that he used to be the center of. he used to be the sole object of love’s affection but now suddenly nine is here and mill feels like he’s being pushed out

and despite whatever shame and fear mill feels, he still knows what he wants, and even if he’s afraid to take the leap he needs to, he’s trying to do something to get back what he fears he’s losing. and i think that’s rly well-conveyed in this shot after the previous where love moves closer to nine and then mill decides to move closer as well

and love is clearly still interested in mill (i.e. the hands scene, the gazing, etc) but is now stuck between these two. i absolutely adore that during the section of the mv near the beginning that flashes rapidly through a bunch of shots, it flashes between these shots of lovenine and lovemill

it rly highlights the tension here as well as draws the obvious parallel between nine and mill, and then the rest of the mv shows the contrast between nine and mill

(also sidenote: the mv description for libido tells the story of The Boy, the protagonist of the instinct pt 1 album and how he grapples w desire and instinct and shame and guilt, etc. my beloved friend fiona @iridescentspacewhale​ has this theory that mill represents the boy, and i think it makes a lot of sense, since his storyline is the one that seems to deal with these conflicting feelings and worries and desires the most) 

and truly anon, we were indeed so robbed of this storyline!! i really wish ip2 or underground idol could’ve served as a more obvious sequel/continuation of libido/ip1, but for obvious reasons that couldn’t happen 🥲🥲 

the skinz mv really makes me wonder what direction lovemillnine was originally going to go bc in that mv, there’s this situation happening where it looks like mill is pining after an oblivious nine, but idk if there was originally going to be smth between them (which definitely would make for an interesting resolution or addition to the conflict of lovemillnine) or if that was just added in relatively last minute after jisung left

i personally think it’ll be really cool if nine and mill’s solos take a darker turn in exploring the conflict and jealousy between them. fiona and i are especially fond of a storyline where mill gets to take his revenge, but i guess we’ll see!!

Sofia, Kiroranke, and Wilk Ten Year Runaways

Okay, I’m gonna lay my main card down already: I hc that Kiroranke loved both Wilk and Sofia. His love for Sofia is canon. But honestly, Kiroranke’s devotion and love for Wilk during their revolutionary days were so deep and intimate, I can’t see it as just plain old war buddies type of love. He loved that man, hence it hurt so much to see the Wilk he loved since his teenage years grow into someone he didn’t know and couldn’t relate to anymore in the end. It was like betrayal. Maybe one day I should write more about that. But yes, sometimes I think the manga was framing the trio as some sort of love triangle, and it was, but it was Kiroranke loving the both of them. I argue that in that aspect, he was their emotional core. 

I think Kiroranke and Wilk had moments together — Kiroranke, a teenage boy in love with someone older than him, desperately kissing an injured Wilk after the assassination. He would be embarrassed about it, ashamed of his actions, but Wilk said nothing but thanks for his concern. Kiro looking deep into shining blue eyes crinkled in mirth underneath a layer of blood, you fucking bet he realized right then and there he would follow this man wherever he goes. I feel like in those ten years, they had some kind of tension between them that wasn’t platonic in nature. Kiro would be passionate and show his adoration for the older man in actions rather than words — being loyal to his leader, following orders without any complaints. Wilk was calculated and cautious, hence he wasn’t verbally affectionate, but he’d always had his hand on Kiro’s shoulder in greeting or leaning into his bigger bulk when resting… there was definitely some quiet affection shared between the two of them. 

Asirpa in the early parts of the manga tells Sugimoto that a lot of women fell in love with Wilk because of his fine motor skills, especially when crafting something from his own hands. I hc that Sofia wasn’t any different. In my mind, there was a point during their runaway days where Sofia asked Wilk to teach her how to hunt, and Wilk crafted her a simple knife Ainu-style while telling her stories about his childhood to pass the time (maybe she heard about the story of child Wilk and the wolf during this time). She started to fall for the man who was passionate about his heritage and was willing to do anything for the people he loved. When it was finished, Wilk brought her along to a two-man hunt. She wasn’t successful at hunting, despite Wilk’s instructions, but Wilk — who had caught their dinner for that night — encouraged her by telling her that she can practice hunting with him and Kiroranke if she wanted to. 

Sofia can’t cook for shit, Kiro can manage, but Wilk was the master at their, er, makeshift kitchen. I can see Sofia being the Sugimoto to Kiroranke and Wilk’s Asirpa, wherein the boys would cook something that is “exotic” to Sofia’s tastes. Initially, she subconsciously balks at the ingredients and cooking processes, but then later reminds herself that her culture and their culture were equal — they both deserve the same respect and reverance. She ends up liking the mixed cuisines a lot. Also, Wilk who came from both Polish minorities and Ainu people probably did a lot of fusion dishes for fun. 

I can see Sofia to be their spymaster. Sofia is a pretty woman, knows French and Russian, and isn’t wanted by the police. Hence, she’s the least suspicious out of the three. I bet that she was really good at her job because she’s a great actress. I’m willing to bet she used her aristocratic knowledge to steal from a fellow nobleman during their runaway years. The reason why she started slipping when it came to Hasegawa was because for the first time in ten years, she felt at peace (this was primarily because of the close presence of Olga, Hasegawa’s child). I can even extrapolate that she enjoyed holding Olga close to her because she would daydream of her own child with Wilk. 

Wilk knew that both Kiroranke and Sofia loved him, but didn’t do anything about it. He also knew that Kiroranke was in love with Sofia, and made hints to Kiro that he knew, but he was passive when it came to emotions like that. Maybe he saw that maintaining the emotions and reciprocating even a tiny bit was beneficial for him as a leader. Although, I can see him being more partial to Kiroranke because of their shared goal.

Wilk has a great singing voice, I can see him as a baritone. Which means that his voice is well-suited for lullabies and humming. Sometimes when Wilk was on the watch for their group, he would hum songs from his childhood. Both Kiroranke and Sofia would pretend that they were already asleep to hear him quietly and gently string notes that would form soft lullabies about Ainu proverbs and stories. More often than not, they both fall asleep into deep slumber whenever they hear Wilk. It’s a soothing rumble, a very nice sound to let go of consciousness and clutch dreams.

IDK - I really liked Ted Lasso's series/season finale. Spoilery thoughts behind the cut.

I finished the series finale on a high, and legitimately cried a lot which I never do and did not think I would do at all after the disastrous season two...but seeing the mainstream criticism is disappointing. It feels like people really loathed it and said the whole series was a waste of time - like wow, have we come far from what the show was supposedly teaching everyone during the pandemic...but I thought it was good - heartfelt character development, a little fan service, wrap-ups to more of the important things, and I couldn't believe it won with them going all the way, to get to #2nd place but for it to still feel like a massive victory.

Season 3 was miles better than season 2 for me. I think what ended up happening is that the series wanted to add more to supporting characters in season 2 to give everyone more of a life outside of Richmond and focusing on Ted, but they couldn't really know how to piece it all together with one season left - so we got bits and pieces of heel turns with Nate or the racism Sam faces or whatever that dead dog thing was with Danny or delving into Ted's past but it struggled to know how to wrap things up more. A lot of it was off-kilter from the first season's tone, which was ultimately dry humored sprinkled with Ted's anxiety on top. The episodes became more of flashes of life rather than full-scale plots - it worked sometimes, it flopped others. Then, Season 3 turned its attention to having extra positive wrap-ups for the deeper details, and it was hard to readjust.

I agree with the critics that the weird love triangle finale between Keely, Roy, and Jamie was unnecessary, even if in the montage it seems like they're all on good terms... But Roy and Jamie became such good friends based on so many things outside of Keeley and who she should be with. It was out-of-character for S3Jamie to want to ask her out again just because he did well at the game, and ignore the boundaries Roy was trying to set, and for them to be petty enough to get into a fight about the video that leaked. Not only was Jamie and Keeley were in a consensual relationship when that happened, but wrongfully shamed Keely more than anyone. It seemed like such an odd way to pivot her arc back to two men who don't really have a leg to stand on in terms of defining self-worth for herself. The writing made it seem like she was a trophy for them, but she isn't.

I also get why fans are upset about Ted and Rebecca. Granted, I never really paid attention to them or shipped them, so I didn't see all of the smaller things shippers loved. But even in the beginning of episode 12, I screamed 'THEY FUCKED?! OMG'....but by the end, I was okay with them not ending up together - because it still felt to me like they were soulmates beyond romantic connection, much like Ted and Beard's friendship transcends Beard and Jane getting married without him. Like the impact they have on each other adds up to all of those little connections to show why they were meant to meet but not meant to be. (I'm not crazy about the Dutchman somehow being a fucking pilot out of nowhere, but damn he was hot, so I'd take as back-up.)

A lot of the resolutions loosely came down to the montage or pivoting from ideas that didn't feel fully finished, because the show was still striving to be happy-go-lucky at its core, and I think overall, that's okay. They found themselves in the end even if the rest of it wasn't exactly perfect.

Read more in place because uh. I wrote a bit much an don't want to take up everyone's dash. Anyways, under the cut is my definition of what tlc is + some other tidbits.

TLC, abbreviation of 'The Lunar Chronicles', is a book series that was published from 2012 to 2015 (so like, 10 year's old) created by Marissa Meyer, one of my favorite authors. She just happens to be the author that restarted my love of reading.

The wikipedia definition of tlc (because I am lazy and have no idea how to properly summarize the novels without infodumping and spoiling it all) says 'Set in a futuristic world inhabited by various species and creatures, tensions are rising between Earth and its former colony Luna, while both attempt to manage an ongoing pandemic.'

The four books names correlate with the names of 4 of the main characters (Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter, in chronological order). There are also two extra books (Fairest book 3.5, and Stars Above book 5) but that's besides the pointm Cinder is our main main character, and each book mostly focuses and properly introduces us to the girl on the title while still managing to keep with with our other characters.

It has a loveable cast, space, war, politics (I mean I guess??), romance, friendship, no love triangles, royalty, etc etc. However the title of science fiction and the science of the book (aka how living on Luna and all of that works) has been questioned by my slightly upset former science teacher who is in my book group. Because I convinced the teacher running the group to let the group read tlc, which I was joking about because she hated tlc but that's a story for a different ask lmao.

Anyways personally, my favorite characters just so happen to be Jacin and Winter, which is funny because 13-14 yr old me hated Jacin during my first read. I don't even remember why, however Winter has always been my favorite (again, a story for different ask) (I could just rant and rant about what I love about these books).

I mentioned that Craig and Tweek kinda remind me of them, but they have some similarities that just clicked in my little au conjuring brain. Tweek reminds me of Winter in the way of how they're both kinda weird, Tweek is more erratic and panicky whereas Winter is more floaty and whimsical. However some of the things Winter says does remind me of things Tweek would say, maybe this one is just me though.

As for Craig, he gives me Jacin vibes. They both got that stoic, asshole-ish who's only softer around their lover vibe. That's mainly why I made the post.

That being said that was just a silly thought I had, idk if it'd turn into an actual au that'd be wild and tedious lmao. It's a nice thought tho. Anyways if u like multiple part romance filled fantasy books based off fairytales (with a bit not properly thought out science fiction according to my science teacher) than I suggest reading it. I should mention that tlc was the first thing MM every published (to my knowledge).

If u would like to read one of her books bc her writing is blatantly clear in all of her books (/posi) but tlc seems too much to tackle, she has two standalones, a trilogy, a duology, and one of those books w/ multiple authors. I do believe one standalone is getting another book but idk if it's a second part or just in the same universe.

so, for kinnporsche i came to the conclusion i have two - one for the earlier part of the show and one for the last episodes (i think the green is..fairly obvious)

first one is the men themselves who made me feel so many things throughout the show and turnt it into the amazing experience it was for me, watching them learn how to understand each other and open up, the tender scenes, the chemistry, following the discussions on here about kinn and his trust issues (omg especially around the tawan episodes, that was crazy) - their journey was so much fun!

the second one..what can i say, vegaspete were what everyone seemed to anticipate and i was kinda neutral until their episodes actually hit, then i went insane lmao, i just love pathetic men and "only i understand him, only i can tame him" type of stuff - i got plenty of that and some top notch chemistry and they were what made the last episodes for me

onto the untamed.. i don't like thinking about it too much because one cql viewing later i'm a broken woman, i do not understand how people watch it more than once and choose to actively think about it, write analyses, delve into the lore - i'm not built like you guys and you have my respect 💕 all of that is to say i dont think bout the ships too much either, i picked these as faves because they had a certain smth

...wen qing 🥰 i didn't ship them as divorced until i saw the option and decided that yes, they would be so amazing as divorced parents or smth and i would read about it for sure; not the comb, not the post-war conversations - that inn scene always comes to mind, it feels like a checkpoint at which you could take a different route and change the outcome, a spot where you can stop and think "what if"... jiang cheng before the weight of zidian, the only thing of importance at the moment - his brother's safety... wen qing with only her brother to look out for, testing how far she'd go for an outsider while risking everything... or, y'know, i just find the scene fun, smart and rewatchable 🤷‍♀️ they're a very interesting ship for me cause i don't mind them not being together, either way is fine and makes sense and i never really feel this way about ships i care about, they usually HAVE to be together y'know but with these two i just have many thoughts and feelings that don't actually make me go crazy which is so refreshing

and the one ship that i'm not sure i even ship but b o y they make me feel things...

...xiao xingchen and xue yang YES I KNOW, still to this day am not sure about some story details lol that whole arc left me shaken to my core and i've worked on forgetting it so it took a while to even remember they exist .. anyways, they found home in each other and could've been happy but they are who they are and they acted how they acted and that's that :) also my feels on song lan (and him with xiao xingchen) are mixed but this might be the one triangle i can see myself enjoying as a throuple.. i avoided stuff about that whole psychological horror arc so stuff that could sway me in any particular direction haven't been encountered in a while ✨

with “in another life” reader will have met choso n nanami separately, so she sort of had time to love them both on their own and in their own ways (i’ll explore a bit on how her love for each of them is very different, but neither is necessarily wrong) and then later in life, this creates a conflict because instead of deciding between two men, i think i want it to be moreso she is deciding between two halves of herself that she didnt realize she was still holding onto at the same time (idk if this makes sense haha, but sort of the idea of realizing you’re not truly over the things that you thought you were)

the thing that scares me a lot about writing more traditional love triangles is the sort of picking between two people at the same point in time while also still sort of in that “talking stage” with both of them, n yeah im not too confident in my writing abilities quite yet to write something complicated like that i don’t think 😭💀 i am kind of a person that thinks a lot ab emotions of characters in things i read an watch (by proxy, this translates to my writing i’ve realized haha) and i think i’d have a hard time managing those complicated feelings in my writing at this point

but there will definitely ofc be aspects of love triangle in “in another life” that i cannot avoid, but i think it’ll be a bit easier to write since reader has a history already w both choso n nanami, and she knows them very well, so i think that’ll help me come up w the dialogue in ways that feel natural down the line during the present timeline!

...I actually don't know why I'm starting this right now when I didn't even have this on my watchlist, was just vaguely aware of it, and also was finally in the middle of my Utsukushii Kare S1 rewatch before watching S2 & movie. For the past few weeks I've been really wanting to watch some regular Thai university BL and the last one I'd watched was literally Be My Favourite in November last year. I'd watched some high school/uni BLs from other countries (usually kBL and I literally paused my Utsukushii Kare S1 rewatch to start this ffs) but idk why I'm craving a Thai uni BL right, it doesn't even necessarily have to be great, just a regular run-off-the-mill uni romance.

Overall:

Not very good, it's kinda non-sensical and has terrible subs and I watched it all on 1.25 speed. However, I was deeply craving a typical university Thai BL and it gave me that with engineer students and enemies to lovers. Sonkhgram and Ai were pretty cute and their pretend enemies while both likes the other for years was endearing ig? The freshmen Pluster and Nano were also really good toward the middle-end, the little gossips and schemers. Meen and Bright were meh, which is disappointing because it could've been something more compelling. All in all, a meh show to watch if wanting something really tropey that requires 0 thought.
