Modern AU - college and then mid-to-late-30s Ari

We're going to call this... er... maybe an "imagine-novella"? It kind of ended up being a 2500-word plot exploration. No content warnings, only some language.

You meet Ari in college. He’s tall and toned and tanned, always in a baseball cap unless forced otherwise, and he’s already sporting a full beard and looking good with it. He’s a couple of years older because he worked out of high school before for a couple of years - long enough to put enough away to pay for tuition without being a burden on his parents. When you meet him, it's when there's the huge club rush out on the quad your junior year. It's in the middle of campus in the first weeks of the semester so everyone does wander through by the nature of when and where it is. You see the table for the radio station on campus. Truthfully you don't even notice him at first. You're standing twenty feet away looking at the sign and thinking about whether or not it's worth it, maybe shake things up, you love music - you're that friend always making the playlists, discovering new songs and bands, dying to go to big music festivals, etc, and your campus has a radio station...

Someone else was talking to him as he's running that table, and they leave and then he sees you standing there, and, "Hey! You!"

It jolts you out of your thoughts and you're caught off guard for just a half a second, and go, "Me?"

He grins, "Yeah, you."

Your feet move before you even really think about it because ... that's just what you do when people call you over. It’s an instant crush for you but you try and reign it in, because he's excited that you're actually interested in the station, and you genuinely are excited about it. He's a Journalism and Communications major and the station manager, and so he gives you the pitch to come to an info meeting they're going to have, he'd love to see you there.

And you do go. Because... it doesn't matter that he's cute. The more you keep thinking about it, you decide it would actually be fun. You get a show, you make a lot of new friends with the other station people - some of them are total nerds, but they're all fun or nice or a little bit irreverent, and so station meetings once a month are fun. You're a good DJ. You have fun with your shows. Ari takes note - he appreciates it. The station is his baby. He puts everything into it. He's not outgoing, even though he's charismatic, but he can't help but gravitate to the people who really fucking love it like him. You don't get to know him super well that first year, but when it's time for him to appoint new directors to run the station the next year, he pulls you aside and says he loves what you've done with your show and wants you to think about applying for a director position.

You do. It's going to be your last year of college, the DJ gig hasn't been work, it's just been fun, and ... you love being part of the team, love to work on exciting projects, dig your hands into the dirt and make something great, so yeah. You throw your hat in the ring, because why not? And it could be an extra thing to go on your grad school applications.

Ari not only picks you for the team, he actually ends up picking you to be the director of programming, his number two, the one who oversees the DJs and putting together the roster for shows each semester. And that's what launches everything to a new level.

You lock down DJs that you want to come back the next fall, you both go away for the summer, but now you're texting somewhat regularly about ideas for the next year, things you'll work on, and the real working friendship develops. When fall semester starts and it's full speed on the ground, you and the team of directors really work to make the station great, but it's A LOT of you and Ari.

And to say he becomes one of your best friends senior year? Maybe. You tread that line because there's still that part of your heart that crushes on him, but the part that loves doing everything station and music and working on this big beast together? That's big. You let that be the focus. Because it's fun. And he's fun. And he's brilliant (like you, which is why he likes you) and ambitious (like you) and he's got this great, rich laugh that you get to hear a lot. And a lot of your other friends are busy with their senior years, too, and so are you, and so you don't mind any of the time you spend working on the station with Ari and the other directors and the DJs who are just this pack of a couple dozen people who come and go. But a lot of you and Ari.

And he doesn't date anyone. Not the entire time you know him. You heard/thought maybe there were some hook ups he indulged in during your junior year, but not that year before you both graduate. He clearly doesn't have time for a girlfriend and doesn't love anything more than the station, but you do think - just a little bit - just in the back of your head sometimes - that maybe you don't hear about him with anyone this year because... he's not going to date you - that would be unprofessional for you two and the station - but maybe it's because you are close. And maybe as you get closer to the end of the year... maybe he's going to make a move. He's always said he's already a confirmed old bachelor, but the way he smiles at you, the way he values your opinion, how often he says how amazing you are and how he appreciates you... you're going to be the girl who finally gets him.

But time is running out. And even though you both pour your hearts into the station together, there are never any late nights (those are given to studying, passing classes, etc). The last month, he says stuff like he's never going to see any of you again. Jokingly. You all laugh as directors because how could he mean it? He's made you all a family.

He makes more comments like that in the last weeks and days, and when he says he's going to shut down all of his social media, because he only had it to run and promote the station, you call him on his bullshit. And he says no. He's serious. He's going to go into journalistic photography, and he's going to create the network he needs where he needs it, but he's not playing the PR games to do it - the dream is wild nature photography, work in remote locations, never talk to humans again if he can help it. And it's so stupid. You tell Ari he's being ridiculous. He can't want to live so far off the grid.

"I'm sorry," he says, kindly but matter-of-factly. "But when we graduate, I'm never talking to any of you ever again."

You scoff. But this conversation is now just you and him in the station on a Saturday afternoon. But then you look at him for a half a second and really see his face. And you think he means it. "Ari, I did not give my fucking heart and soul into this station for the last year as your friend for you to never talk to me again. You at least owe me a lunch five years from now."

He smiles. "Okay. Maybe in five years. You find me in five years and I promise I'll take you to lunch."

And you graduate a week later, and he says goodbye, and you're not sad about it. Maybe just a bit wistful for what might have been. But after that specific "five years" conversation, you realize it was only you who was maybe a bit foolishly hopeful. He'd really never led you on. You never told him you had a crush (you had tried to keep it professional, because you did genuinely love the friendship) and he'd never given you or anyone else any illusion that he was there for anything other than working on the station and that bonding and camaraderie. If he had led you on, if there had been late nights, maybe you would've been hurt. But aside from being secretly hopeful, there really wasn't much harm done by your pining. But maybe in five years, you'll look him up for that lunch he agreed to.

He does fall off the gridl You take a busy summer job and then a paid internship in the fall, and you try and track him a bit, but you do just… get busy and move forward. You think of Ari a lot, but less and less as the time goes on. You know the name of the newspaper he was going to start off with right after graduation, and although he got rid of social media, he did have a beautiful website he set up for his photography. And you check that once in a while, but less and less. You get a fulltime job after the internship, and your life becomes even more full with the things that aren’t Ari, and sometimes you think about him, but most times you don’t.

When that five years rolls around, you start to think of him more again.

But you let it come and go.

You didn’t necessarily feel like you were living your best life, and if you were going to get one lunch to win over the one who got away and make him realize you were the love of his life… maybe you’d feel a little better – a little more accomplished, go to the gym more, be really something – in ten years.

Fleeting thought in ten years. Though you do think of him when you realize it’s that ten year mark. And you just kind of smile because ten years ago you was so wildly for him, and five years ago you was still a touch foolishly hopeful, and wouldn’t it be something if you did look him up now? But you really don’t need to anymore.

Then a couple of years later, you move to a new place, and without ever even trying, who else should somehow be living two doors down from you but Ari fucking Levinson?

And he sees you first. He’s just gotten home, opened the door from the garage into the house to be reunited with his good girl – a beautiful golden retriever who’s waited for him all day, walked with her trotting along at his side out to his mailbox, and looks down the street to see who’s just sending off the movers out of curiosity for who’s moving into the neighborhood, and he does a fucking double take because it’s you.

His god damn jaw drops and he laughs and then calls out your name.

You turn, hardly believing it but knowing that voice anywhere, and you laugh and shake your head. “Ari Levinson?”

You push the messy hair from the long day’s work of moving out of your face and are glad you’re not besotted for this man anymore, even if he does look like even more of an Adonis now, because you do know you look a mess, but you don’t even care. Having moved out of state for this dream job, you couldn’t be any more happy just to have someone from your past right at your new home base.

“’Of all the gin joints in all the towns in the world!’”

He meets you halfway, and he pauses a beat away from you because he’s not a hugger, but somehow there’s just this draw to hug you, and so he does. Only surprising to you for a second, but you’re so tired and it’s been a good day but a long day, and you were excited for this move, but you can’t deny a familiar face just feels good, so you melt into him just for the comfort of it for a moment. It’s just nice.

And when you pull back, the obedient but attentive dog draws your attention, lighting your face up with a beautiful grin. “Can I pet your dog?!”

But the two of you are already drawn to each other and bonding before he gets the, “Sure, of course,” out of his mouth.

He doesn’t wear those old baseball caps every day anymore, so he pushes his hand through his hair, and that move has practically made women drop their panties for him over the years, but you don’t even notice, too busy showering affection on his sweet golden girl while the two of you exchange the kind of words two of the oldest friends do when they haven’t seen each other in ages. Why is his chest so tight and warm all at once. Why does he have the thought cross his mind that you showing up here feels like home? Why are you falling in love with his dog and not with him? Wait, why did he think that?

This feels like a slippery slope.

But maybe he doesn’t fucking care.

When he is back inside his house, starting to pull something from the fridge to heat up for dinner, he remembers that he promised you a dinner.

It’s later than you two made the deal for, but… he’ll start there.

Just old friends who are new neighbors.

That night when he’s plugging his phone in to charge before bed, he remembers that he never did get rid of your contact in his phone. You might have the same number.

What he doesn’t know is that when he left the harbor, sure, you waited with that boat hopefully for a bit, but then you finally took your ship and sailed – everywhere really – and you may be eager to fall happily in love with his dog and genuinely grateful to know you’ll have someone in your corner on this new adventure, but you want nothing more than that good friendship in your life. He was one of your greatest friends all those years ago. But you finally got over that pining crush, and here’s no way you’ll be foolish enough to fall for him again, nor do you want to. You couldn’t ask for more than to have your old friend as your new neighbor, with his gorgeous golden retriever.

Ari does text you that night… just a welcome to the neighborhood again, and that he thinks he owes you a dinner, if he remembers correctly (he does, he’s just being casually clever), so he’s gotta take you out tomorrow night.

And it is still the same number, but you fell into the blissful rest of your bed, exhausted after move in day, so you don’t even see it that night. It will wait until you get to it in the morning.

Just like Ari will have to wait for what he wants. And work to try to even bring you around again.

Will he have waited too long and you’ll be the one who got away?

Heyyyyy whats uppppp the brain worms have hit once again for a different au. Shadow retires and starts running a cat cafe, that's it that's the au. More info under the cut if you'd like to read about it hehe.

After some event Shadow gets to retire but now that he has all this free time as he is essentially barred from joining any further missions he's been incredibly bored. So what is a guy to do other than open up a little cat rescue and well, one thing leads to another and now it's a full blown cafe with a few permanent residents.

The cafe is called Midnight Hour since it tends to be one of the few places still open past midnight. The cat portion closes earlier than the cafe but Shadow doesn't mind running the place into the wee hours of the night. It's been calming form him after all. He's managed to get something sorted out with Vanilla and Cream as well where he can sell their pastries and any profits go towards taking care of the cats.

The gang are all regulars and most of them have adopted a cat from the cafe though for anyone who can't bring a cat home Shadow decides that they can become a permanent resident of the cafe. His own cat, Mari, is very feisty. She does NOT like any other mobian or human besides Shadow and is constantly following him around and getting underfoot. Sunny is a very chill cat, he lose to sunbathe and play and is generally a calming presence for the other cats in the cafe. Sonic took a liking to him almost immediately and so he was the second cat to call the cafe a home. Tiramisu followed suit as Silver visited one time when he could. The two bonded pretty quickly as Tiramisu almost perfectly matches Silver's energy and love of exploring. The three cats get along great even if they are prone to causing Shadow some kind of headache every now and then.

Knuckles adopts several cats to keep him company on Angel Island. They end up befriending the chao and... well... the chaos energy there mind of mutates them a little so each have funky markings or colors but the cats seem to be happy so he just doesn't bring it up.

Amy helps run the social media page for the cafe in her free time. She ends up adopting two white cats called Strawberry and Shortcake who are a bonded pair of siblings. They live with her and are treated to a life of luxury.

I have a few plot lines I want to explore in this au such as how Shadow and Mari become friends, some of Sunny and Sonic's adventures as well as how the cats on Angel Island are doing. There isn't any ship content planned for this yet but we'll see where it goes. There are some cute moments I want to write out between Sonic and Shadow when it comes to adopting/taking care of Sunny.

Ah, here we are! 

This is your mandatory post about my new fic and next fic ‘L’appel Du Vide’ (LDV) - also known as the mavid rwrb au. As usual, I thought I’d share some info about the fic so you guys know what you’re getting yourselves into. So, here you go. 

Is this fic based on the Red, White, and Royal Blue movie or book?

I’d say both. But it’s primarily based on the book because I like the book better and there is more material for me to work with. 

2. Do I need to watch the movie/read the book to read LDV?

Not at all. If you’ve not read/watched rwrb, you don’t have to. It won’t affect your reading experience, I promise.

3. Does the fic have the same plot as rwrb?

Yes and no. This fic is an adaptation because I have to change the story to fit my characters. For example, Max is not going to have a bi-crisis like Alex did and David’s backstory is different because god knows Albert ain’t no Arthur Fox! So, the characterization and flow are quite different. But since it’s based on rwrb, many of the ‘key scenes’ are there - but they’re just adjusted and changed to fit my characters. 

4. How many chapters and whose POV is it from?

Similar to the books, the fic will be from a single POV - Max’s. But I will include a David chappy because we haven’t gotten his POV in so long and I’m mad about it. There are 20 chapters in total - this might change slightly if I decided to experiment with the outline. 

5. Is it true this fic has smut? 👀

Apparently so 👀 Look. It’s in the outline. I intend to write it. But this is my first time writing smut and some of you know I struggle with it and am self-conscious about it. I also find it weird to write sex scenes about people I know (I KNOW MAVID OKAY?). But this is a writing challenge and one I’m willing to explore. So, let’s see how it goes. Max and David’s relationship begins as a sexual one as it does in the rwrb book. So, there will definitely be sex scenes for sure. I just don’t know how smutty or explicit it will be. Y’all know I hate saying erection! And trust me, there will be many erections in this story. 

6. What’s the posting schedule?

Ah. This is the tricky part. I’ve decided to do a weekly posting schedule for this fic. In other words, one chapter per week. I’m going to be a bit busy in April and May. So, I know I won’t be able to commit to two chapters a week. I might try to whenever I can. But I’m setting one chapter a week as the target. 

Are you excited to write it?

Very much so! The last few fics I’ve written (TLND, IALS, FMF, LBAF) have been very heavy - both in plot, themes and writing. Even the posting schedule was so intense. While there are definitely heavy themes in LVD, I see this fic as more of a rom-com. So, I think it’d be fun to write! And I love writing Max pov when he isn’t suffering hehe. I really want this fic to be a fun one!  

A gentle reminder that this is not a malec fic, so please do not ask me for their povs or scenes or try to make this fic about them. I’ve seen that happen with my other mavid fics and so I hope it won’t be the case for this one.

👉👈👀💦 in recent years, the real world is seeing more and more digimon sightings and incidents. humanity begins to research this phenomenon in hope of controlling the creatures. this has led to the emergence and gathering of tamers, and ultimately, the discovery of digital world, where the digimon are believed to have come from. the current issue is exploring the digital world due to its erratic nature. on the other hand, the number of digimon cases has only increased, forcing governments to employ tamers as humanity's offense and defense team while researchers look for a way to enter the digital world. elise, a 22-year-old who has been navigating her life aimlessly, finds herself and her tsukaimon partner, pepper, tangled in the situation. later on, they realize no amount of refusal can ever prevent their involvement as the pieces eventually fall into place. it ends up looking like a blurb lol...i was trying so hard to explain in the way that describes the setting well but doesn't spoil too much, lest people will get confused if i decide to change some details in the future 😭😭 this character info of elise and pepper is relevant to the story 👍

My heathers au is based on the musical - Heathers, where the mtt play the heathers, and Cross is Veronica; Dust plays Heather Chandler's role here.

Heather Chandler actually dies about halfway through the musical, murdered accidentally by Veronica and JD - or Cross and Nightmare here - so if you wanted Dust to be a ghost or alive, totally up to you!

Chandler's bossy, the leader of the Heathers, manipulative and unappolagetic - mean for the sake of being mean, really

His scarf takes the place of heathers scrunchie here, and when he died, Killer (H.Duke) takes it and wears it in to ‘take control’ if you will. Dust does Not Like That (™) 

This makes Horror (H.Mcnamara) really sad

Im gonna go through and tag all my heathers au now with 'Rues Heathers AU' so you should be able to find stuff ive done in the past from them, and stuff i will continue to make ;)

He or she pronouns are fine for Dust here, cus i couldnt really decide if i wanted to genderbend everyone to match the genders of the characters or not, so up to you really, both, one or the other, whatever lol

Pestilence is a bit more complicated; from my Four Horsemen Au - where Nightmare, Dust, Killer and Horror take the roles of the four horsemen, who are said to appear at the end of the humanity, and bring about the apocalypse and all that, from christian texts

Pestilance actually has a redesign since i made him, because hes one of my older things, so:

The first horseman, with a bow and crown, rides a white horse - Dust - Pestilence/Conquest

His crown is made of thorns and branches, jesus style, with melting candles dripping wax slowly; its said when the candles fully melt and the flames burn out, humanity is no more.

The actual 'crown' part of his crown are pitch black metal, and are shaped like arrows

The white sheet covers his face, the way you do to dead people - you do not want to end up seeing his face, because you wont see anything after it if you do ;)

he is constantly in a state of dusting - never fully committing to it,

His hands and body are covered and stained in monster dust and human blood, stains that can never be washed out

he is in a perpetual state of dusting, never really committing either way, just..constantly decaying

He constantly has this green illness liquid dripping from his eyes and mouth - its poison.

His arrows are all poison tipped as well

His bow and fletch are summonable, and attach to his belt easily - he can summon and de-summon them at will.

His horse - which i didnt draw because fuck that - is activly rotting and decaying, bones and rotting flesh making up its body. its a white horse, obviously, with voidless black eyes

both he and the horse trail dust everywhere, disease laying in the powder

the illness that he causes can be physical sickness, and it can be mental sickness, basically anything you count as ' being unwell' he can cause

hes a bit kooky really, he screams and cries and laughs a lot more than he actually talks but he is capable of it, hes just quiet and ominous really, and theres this lingering presence of illness and threat around him. like his space, which is ironic, because illness festers in crowded spaces, its where he thrives.

It's actually much more easy to imagine than you probably think. This man have low self-esteem, he get used to being treated like he's nothing, to the point where he think about himself like about garbage, and he's depressed af

And then.. you appeared. He may be not that religious but he definitely see you as angel, without any jokes. Angel, who came down from heaven and bright his days, his whole life..!

It's doesn't matter if you're actually the ray of sunshine who have many friends or also awkward shy introvert, he will see you as the kindest in the whole world, even if you just smile to him sometimes during lunch break and asking if he's alright when he feel sick after sleepless night of paperwork.

Yes, he have Hifumi who always treat him good and even cook for him, but it's different! Hifumi is his closest friends who know him from childhood, and you're.. you're just a stranger, just co-worker, yet you always so calm, so kind to him, you never scream at him. He get used that everyone in office try to slack off from their work, making him doing theirs reports too..! And you was different, you're the only one who was so gentle with him, making his soul tremble and his heart skip a beat when he notice as you walk in office early in the morning.

He start to peeking at you more during work house. Just by looking at your focused face he can start feeling himself much better, and when he accidentally meet your gaze? Oh, he's so embarrassed, trembling and looking away, as he afraid that he will scare you off with his strange behavior. But in the same time, his heart beat faster and faster, as he can't stop smiling. Such new, sweet feeling.. so addicting..

But soon it will be not enough. He's still too shy to talk with you more than for five minutes when you two bump into each other in corridor accidentally, so he decided to start stalking you outside of work too. Why not? After looking at you for so long in office it's doesn't sound that bad, he's just a little bit nervous and want to know about your life, what's wrong?

So he will walk you home, slowly passing through dark streets behind you. Aren't he actually doing a good thing? If someone will try to hurt you, he will be right here, immediately protecting you! So it's mean he's not that creepy, he just making sure you are safe!

Slowly he will get more info about you through stalking, your address, closest friends, family members, favorite places to hang out and more, more.. He still reassure yourself that he just trying to know you better so it would be more easy to talk with you, and that he's not doing something illegal.

Then he finally will be enough confident to talk with you. Now, when he know your preferences and favorite things it's easy to choose right topic to make you interested in him, to make you think that you two are understand each other so good and have so much same interests! Shouldn't you just befriend him already?

"Oh, you also like this show..?! Yeah, me too, I think I can tell the whole plot from memory, hehe.." - should I say that he spend whole night before this little talk watching it and scrolling through wiki so he would look like a big fan?

He can't control your free time outside office but during work hours he will try to cut off your little chit chats with other co-workers, talking with you himself or make them actually do their work. Yes, he finally start to say "no", so he would be able to stalk you right after work, and not sit in office till midnight..!

Also.. Aren't this mean you have a positive influence on him? Ah, just how much he's appreciate you in his life, how much you change him! And he's really sure that it's good, cause now he feel himself so happy when he admire your sleeping figure through your bedroom's window, or when he write new interesting fact about your life in notes in his phone..! He never feel himself more happier, and he can't even imagine how much happier he will be when he finally will be able to touch you, to visit your house or to invite you to his house.

Oh, his house.. It's actually a problem. You're a girl, and he have Hifumi in their house that would fall unconscious just by looking at you. Also, he's almost 30, and he still live with his friend. Aren't it will make him look.. unsuccessful? Doppo really try hard to be much cool and prosperous than he actually is with you around, as he wants to look like a solid man to win you over.

Maybe he should rent a room for himself? Just a calm lonely salaryman who's hard worker, not too rich but not too poor, aren't he would look like an ideal type? He also can lie that it's his own flat, not a rented one, yes..! it's also would be much easier to lock you inside if something will go wrong

So he would start to talk with you more, acting more and more soft and gentle around you. Just how precious you are, always smiling at him, listening to his still a little bit trembling voice.. Even when he's not able to play cool, even when he snapped and started rumbling about how creepy and ugly he is, and how much his boss annoy him, and how bad his work, you still wasn't disgusted, asking if he alright or he wants to vent a little bit.. Truly, an angel, an angel that fate give him so he can change!

And he change, he really change.. but did he? Even now, when Doppo's much more confident, when he almost find a new apartments for himself (and for you, of course), he still so.. insecure.. Everytime he see you with others co-workers, its break his heart, and when he see you hanging out with your friends while he stalk you, it's make his soul trembling with anger and jealous... Why are you with them, when he's standing here, hiding in shades?! So unfair, so humiliating...

Yes, he try to be as good as he can, but do he actually deserves you? Everyone here much better than he, and they don't even need to fake something to make you talk with them, to make you interested...! He bite his lip, as he can't stop looking at you laughing face, as one of other male co-workers makes you laugh.

He can't take it anymore. Even with all this lie he still feel that he's not enough, otherwise you wouldn't talk with other people! You would forget about everyone around you as he forgot! But you didn't, and it makes him so hurt and insecure.

But this doesn't matter. You already captured his heart, he's addicted to you and he can't let you go. Even if he actually much worse and creepy than you think, even if he actually don't deserve you in his life, he doesn't care. He will make you his at any cost. He just need you

So Doppo would finally rent this stupid apartments and get up his courage to invite you here, as he already prepare everything that he need. He said he just wants to drink tea together and talk a little, what's can go wrong...?

....

But as soon as you enter his house after long day at work, he would giggle, locking the door behind you. Well, many people lock their door even when they inside their house, it's more safe like that, but.. You feel like something was off.

"S/o.. S/o.." - Doppo mumbles, so weak and shy yet so creepy and obsessive. He slowly get closer, suddenly hugging you tightly as he sniff your hair, your perfume, whining - "Your scent is so good.. A-and you're so soft.... Even softer and warmer than I thought..."

You try to push him away carefully, saying with confused face that that's not really what you expected to get today.

"Oh.. Even when I act like that you keep being such an angel..." - he chuckle. He looks so creepy and yet you still talk with him so softly, apologizing.. How can he let you go, even if you asking about this?!

So, no. His grip so firm, as he just continue to sit with you, his heart beating so fast as he just can't get enough of your warmness, softness, cuteness.. You can hear his trembling breathe as he whisper to you just how much he loves you, how much he ready to do to make you smile, and just how much better his days now, with you around.

Would also apologize so much, as he still think that he's not worthy, but, despite he feel guilty, he will not even think about free you. He can't let other people see you, what if you will throw him away?

Lock all doors, all windows, he's even fork out to buy a sound insulation and smart curtain that always closes when he's on work (oh, they also have remote access within app, so Doppo always can check if you try to open them and ask for help by knocking on windows). Don't worry, as he already know what's your favourite things, he fill your new bedroom with books of your favorite authors, and here's tv so you can watch your favorite shows and films, and here's table with stuff for your hobbies, everything...!

"I'm going to work, darling.." - Doppo smiles softly as he kisses you forehead, ignoring your weak struggles. He know that soonly you will give up - "O-oh, and I will get my salary soon, if you want something new for your hobby just ask me, okay?"

"So.. Have fun, okay? And try not to miss me to much, I promise that I'll rush home after my stupid work as fast as possible... Just to be with you all alone again.. ♡"

Here they are!! Jace (he/him) is technically not my character, he's a friend of mine's character but we talk about how he is with Clover & Spot a lot! I'm getting more info as we speak on how he intertwines in some of the angst story hehe... That thing's becoming a whole plot at this point.

Rachel (she/her) was an original bit of writing from me. She's pretty average when it comes to your typical city life! She works online but volunteers at an animal shelter. She goes out for coffee with her friends and she enjoys Clover's company! I have yet to explore her dynamic with the others more than that! Soon though!!!

Just here to make my weekly post about how you should 100000% watch Our Dining Table

Could I make an in-depth meta post about the themes and acting and directing? Maybe. But I'm not gonna do that bc allergies are kicking my ass right now.

But as someone who has so much history and positive memories related to eating together, but also has struggled consistently with that feeling of otherness or loneliness, this show is just so welcoming. Like, it is literally a homecooked meal for your soul. (Ramen Fried Rice for your Soul, hehe). It's a show that's just filled with gentleness and kindness and sweetness and empathy. And because we can't always find that out in the real world, having that in our escapist media can really do so much for bringing a small measure of peace to your mind/heart/soul.

Like, BL/Yaoi plot aside, this show is just the most beautiful expression of love in so many different ways. Seeing the love all of the adults show to Tane, the understanding they have. The relationship between Minoru and his dad. The memories and relationship between Minoru and his mom and his strong desire to make sure that Tane doesn't go without those things just because he was so young when she passed. Yutaka getting to see that he didn't permanently lose his chance for a family. His slow recognition that he is worthy as he is, and that the distance he felt from his adoptive family wasn't his fault. His recognition that he is capable of connection, that he deserves connection, and love, and empathy. Like it's all so beautifully portrayed.

Monthly Update - January 2024

​ Hello everyone once again! I hope you've had an amazing start to the year. Whether you celebrated it in a big way or with something much quieter, I hope there was no shortage of food! Now, that's definitely something Enid would say, hehe :D.

As for the project, after some unexpected complications, I finally published Chapter 8 a few weeks ago! In the end, it turned out longer than I had planned, but I'm getting used to that happening, hahaha! Now it's time to start writing Chapter 9, the last one of this first act! Initially, this chapter seems like it will flow much smoother than the previous one. I usually have a clear image of how each chapter will go and then create a brief summary. In this case, I've expanded the summary a bit more than I usually do, hoping it will help with the writing process. But of course, part of the beauty of creativity lies in the unexpected, both for the good and the bad, so we'll take it step by step each day.

Man, I can barely believe I've reached the end of Act 1. I'm very excited! For several reasons that I can't reveal yet, tempting as it may be, hahaha! I'll just say I have a surprise prepared that I hope you like :D. Besides that surprise, it will finally be time to implement all the changes I had in mind and fix certain things about the characters and the plot here and there, especially in Chapter 2, which I revisited a few days ago, and... let's just say, to all those who read and understood Rayco/Gara and Enid's explanation, congratulations, because I dumped a lot of unnecessary info there for no reason, lol! It's definitely something that needs fixing, and as I mentioned recently, all these changes and revisions will come out alongside Chapter 9.

Finally, there's something important I want to say about this story. Once Chapter 9 is published, a week later, this first act will be available to buy, and the playable demo will be reduced. I still don't know exactly when the demo will be cut, but I was thinking roughly halfway through the story. However, this has brought a small issue too, which is that I don't know how to export it for mobile. I've been experimenting with the Monaca platform, and it looks interesting, but there's something that doesn't quite convince me :/. I've also thought about switching from Twine to ChoiceScript, but it seems confusing and limiting in terms of customization, and no matter how comfortable it is that Hosted Games handles all distribution and such, it’s just a big no for me at first glance. The good thing would be that at least with ChoiceScript you can export your save files from one book to another, which is something you cannot do with Twine or Renpy. Well... you can, actually, but that involves a lot of programming and coding that I have no idea about and if something goes wrong I wouldn’t be able to solve the issues, so it’d be more of a disadvantage than anything else.

Going back to Renpy would be more viable and comfortable for exporting, as I could maintain a single itch.io page. With Twine, I would have to create one for each act to keep the demos separate, and I’m not sure how to feel about that, to be honest :/.

I don't know, I’m just rambling at this point. These are things I'll have to think about since I don't want it to be confusing when playing Remnants. Anyway, I'll do some tinkering and play around a bit with Renpy to see how it feels, and if I'm not convinced, I guess I'll stick with Twine and add an intro for the player to pick all the important choices from Act 1 before continuing with Act 2. I appreciate any suggestions if anyone has them, though :D.

so fun fact they both hold titles: queen and bishop respectively, because the campaign took place in a demon’s chess game!! it was super fun hehe and max was originally an npc from leonora’s backstory BUT my dm brought him into the campaign proper and then i stole his character sheet so he’s MINE NOW.

leonora is actually the niece of the BBEG and her father was the patron of our party’s warlock! so some fun family dynamics there. max is rumored to be an insane necrophile because leonora is legally dead! fun!! and there’s a whole lot of backstory stuff i bombarded @thedndgoblinwholivesinyourwalls with hehe so they’re linked here, here, and here.

…whose character playlist is 80% carrie underwood. if that gives you any indication of her vibes hehe. rambunctious child to a pious, uptight family, lorelei is off to discover herself and prove herself out of SPITE!! she’s a college of chance bard to be specific and she’s kind of just here for a good time not for a long time. also i accidentally made it canon that she has in fact fucked a dragon.

so casimir is a necromancer whose wife left him after he was Consumed By The Horrors!! but his daughter stuck around and accidentally saw some stuff she wasn’t supposed to see, so his mentor had her killed as a way to teach casimir his place so to speak. he intended to give up his studies but then her ghost started appearing to him, and now it’s almost like she never left! also he is very much drowned cat in the dumpster energy as well. i love him dearly.

(Mario Movie spoilers ahead!!)

Before seeing the movie, I had a bunch of ideas of how the plot was gonna play out, and one of those ideas was that one of the bros were going to die during the final battle and get revived by a 1-Up shroom. I remember seeing in one of the many promotional things for the movie, one of them had a render of a 1-Up shroom, so I assumed that’d mean it be in the movie, but it wasn’t. A bit ago I saw a post where they also had expected one of the them to die, but they had a big brain idea. Being something that can literally revive people, surely it must be pretty rare, so how would they obtain the 1-Up shroom?

Lumalee. In Galaxy, Lumalee is a luma that sells you 1-Ups, specifically before bosses or big battles. So imagine with me, if you will (I’m no expert at writing dialogue, so, sorry if it sounds weird or out-of-character) :

Luigi is put in a cage and hung above lava along with the other prisoners. Among the cages, one stood out- a floating blue star person. The star child talks about how it’s impossible to escape and death is inevitable. Luigi is scared, but also determined to reunite with his brother. He talks to the luma, saying that that’s not true and that life is full of opportunities. Lumalee disagrees, saying that death is the goal in life. Luigi says that if they can get out of here, he can prove him otherwise. Lumalee agrees, saying it’d be fun to see his inevitably fail. It squeezes through the bars of its cage (the other prisoners yell out “you could do that this whole time?!”) and joins Luigi in his cage. He didn’t think he get this far- time to quickly come up with a plan. Lumalee hides under Luigi’s hat while he tries to swing the cage around. As he causes a commotion, Kamek comes in, “Lord Bowser requires your presen- oh, you’re already causing more trouble. No matter, Lord Bowser has plans for you”. Lumalee giggles and whispers to Luigi “he’s going to kill you~” as the cage is quickly pulled up, and the scene switches back over to the A-plot.

Next time we switch over to the B-plot, we get another interrogation scene where Bowser tries to get more info about Mario. Luigi is more or less the same mess as he was in the first interrogation scene. Bowser calls him something mean or whatever, and from under Luigi’s hat, Lumalee refutes him with some words of wisdom or something. Bowser is shocked, thinking that Luigi said that, and is like “heh. That brutal honesty, I like it”. Switches back over to the A-plot, and the next time it switches back to the B-plot, we get Luigi wingman scenes (Bowser practicing his pickup line on Luigi dressed up as Peach). Bowser actually starts to like Luigi, and makes him his best man at the wedding. During the wedding scene, once Peach starts to fight back, Luigi joins in and helps her. The rest continues as it does in the movie, until the part where they’re all in Brooklyn. Bowser grabs Luigi and is furious at him for betraying him. Mario yells out “hey! Let go of my brother!” and charges at him. Epic fight scene where Mario eventually gets his ass beat by Bowser. Bowser delivers a finishing blow, sending Mario flying. Bowser smugly turns around and walks away as Luigi rushes to his brother’s side. He’s panicking, he tries to get him to wake up, but nothing…

His heart drops. He hesitantly places his ear against his chest. Nothing… Luigi wails, holding his brother close. Bystanders stare in shock, realizing what’s going on. As he cries, he hears a voice: “hehe. I knew something like this would happen”. Lumalee comes out from under his hat. Luigi yells at them, “now is not the time for your depressing thoughts! My brother is GONE! Can’t you feel a bit of empathy?!” Lumalee’s smile slowly fades, and they look down at Mario. “… Mama used to tell us that life is limited.” Luigi looks over at them. “… that we all served a greater purpose in the end. That despite life coming to an end, they leave their mark on the world… I always wanted to leave my mark. But I never got that chance…” Luigi opens his mouth to speak, but Lumalee interrupts him “Luigi, I’m sorry. I’m sorry that I was too focused on my own goals… Thank you for trying to show me what life is about. I hope you two can experience that life.” Lumalee floats down to Mario, glowing a bright light as they sink into his chest. Mario slowly starts to float as a glowing green light surrounds him. Bowser turns around and his eyes widen. [1-UP sound effect]. The brothers reunite once more, as Bowser grows much angrier. Then we get something similar to the movie where they bros get the star and save the day.

Alternatively, Bowser goes through with his “We’ll see how Mario acts when I kill his brother!” line, and attacks Luigi instead. While Mario is freaking out over Luigi’s death, Lumalee floats over holding his hat, saying something like “this isn’t fair… he was so determined to see his brother… Luigi you were supposed to show me what life is about! It’s not fair…” and then does their speech about purpose and sacrifices themself to bring back Luigi.

I doubt Nintendo would allow their poster boy to be killed, even if it’s a bloodless death, but I feel like this could’ve made the movie much more impactful, especially since Luigi and Lumalee barely had any screen time

How much prep work do you put into your stories? What does that look like for you? Do you enjoy this part, or do you just want to get on with it?

When I was beginning as a writer on Tumblr, I never planned anything I wrote. It was genuinely just such a 'sit down and write whatever comes to mind' type of thing I did. It might be obvious to some when you compare my current work and my earlier ones, especially with Cherry Blossoms, Caught Red Handed, compared to 101 Ways To Live lmao

I think I put in a lot of effort planning the two fic, Black Canvas and 101WTL, this time around, though, because I really want to see these projects do well. It's also something that I learned from hitechlatte and Dork, both of whom are just stupendous writers that I can learn so much from!

Currently, for how planning stories looks like for me, I use a table in a Google Doc, which looks something like this:

Sometimes the outline isn't really followed to a T, which you can evidently see in Chapter 1, where the last few points are a little wonky and some straight-up don't appear :) But it's such an amazing safety net for me to fall back on since I tend to veer off course, and random tidbits of drabbles hit me out of nowhere.

For example, this is a thing that hit me one night. It's yet to be determined whether it'll be in the fic, but I just thought I'd show you lol:

“Didn’t anyone ask you?” Damn it. You risk a quick glance up, eyeing his raised brow and the skeptical smile. It’s not like you could outrightly admit that you wanted him to be your date. Besides, what you’re feeling is probably just one-sided anyway. It’s not like you expect him to be happy with you asking, but he could at least react a little nicer, couldn’t he?

God, you want to smack his pretty face so bad. 

"No, so I need a date for the prom. You don’t gotta do it if you don’t want to, jeez." You mutter, looking back down and feeling your cheeks warm as you absentmindedly shade your doodle of his face in your sketchbook.

Hehe.

As for whether or not I enjoy this part, I generally do! It's so much fun to think up little moments or even entire arching plot points that gradually develop throughout the fic! However, there are definitely moments when I get stuck, but I try not to let it affect me as much. To be perfectly honest, there are just blank chapters in the Google Doc table, where It's just. Nothing. But I know that as I write and gradually develop/flesh out the story even more, it'll hit me eventually. Sometimes, all you need is time, and it'll just come to you^^

A/N ! so, me being me, i love world building and character studies. therefore, here's a small introduction to each [important] character; some ages have been changed for plot convenience and there are some ocs. since the whole camp is entirely made up by me, i think it's just easier for me to provide a small brief on the entire concept. i haven't conjured a proper, factual football camp (in my eyes), but just what complements the trajectory of the story.

as for the playlist, it's in no particular order, but just relays the ambiance and emotions that i'm intending to portray throughout the whole story.

BONDY ELiTE SUMMER ACADEMY- WHAT iS iT? it happens annually during the summer break, and players cannot apply independently. they would need a testimonial from their current team's coach to even be considered to be accepted. all teenagers board in dorms on campus, yet are allowed to go off-campus between certain hours. has factions of 11-14 (freshers), 15-16 (juniors) and 17-19 (elites), and each has feminine and masculine units. however, those who have previously attended either the camp do not have a boost when joining the elite camp, in which one can apply for more than once if they do not get referred. it's highly prestigious, and accepts 10 for each unit, so overall, they take 60 players year only. it's very competitive to enter, and even more competitive to be 'referred', in which 3 players from each unit are given an advantage into being scouted at the end of the 5 week-period.

however, you must remember, these teenagers would do ANYTHING to be referred.

CHARACTERS

KYLiAN MBAPPE ! now, i don't want to info-dump so early in this whole fic timeline, so i'll keep it as minimal as possible (easter eggs will be dropped when necessary 🤭). in this story, kylian is 18 years old, yet his love for football is as fruitful as ever. he likes to tell his family that, although he is selectively mute, his football 'speaks for itself', and wishes that clubs could see past the minor hindrance. applying to bondy junior when he was 16 and bondy elite when he was 17 saw him get rejected twice, and he believed that this summer camp was the only way to project his career in the right way, so he never gave up trying. until now. his story will be one of ups and downs (yes, one does unfortunately outweight the other), but kylian knows that the only way to get through the month is by showing everyone that he's more than just a 'mute boy'.

[Y/N] [L/N] ! [y/n] has loved football more than life itself since she came out of the womb, and, with her two best friends, she aims to be projected into the pinnacle of competitive football. but being chosen as a bondy elite was something she never expected. the football camp wasn't necessarily on her agenda, and although she had no intention of attending in the first place, she knows that being in the feminine elite unit would take so much willpower and perserverance, and she's all the ready to accentuate her passion and love for the sport. her journey isn't easy, not in the slightest, but she gets through it, she just isn't aware of who with.

BRiCE TCHAGA ! honestly, without this guy, kylian has no idea how he would've endured the world of football (he never tells him this, though). they've been childhood friends for majority of their lives and brice tends to help kylian communicate through sign language when he wants to and is always there to defend kylian when needed. he's been accepted into bondy camp before (many times), but for the past few years has denied his position as a 'sign of rebellion' (his words not mine). now that kylian has been offered a place, brice has decided to cease his 3 year long break and accompany him.

RiAN BUNCHUAi + AZALi HANSON ! [y/n]'s wingwomen. the best way to name them really. both lovers of football just like their friend, it isn't a surprise that all 3 of them hold such a strong connection. since they were kids, they had all vowed to play in the same team professionally and continue to strive to make that come true, despite everyone else's proclamations that it may not entirely be possible (nothing is impossible in the world of football). now, a new path begins this summer, and they are prepared to show the rest that they're forces to be reckoned with.
