I'll probably delete this later... but I just wanted to come on here to vent a little bit. So please be aware. THIS IS A VENT. I AM SAD AND EMOTIONAL AND UPSET AND I WILL SAY THINGS THAT MAY SOUND HARSH. PLEASE KEEP THIS IN MIND WHEN READING AND DONT READ IF IT WILL MAKE YOU UNCOMFORTABLE!! (TL:DR at the end)
You have been warned
When I got into TWST probably two years ago now, there was so much room and potential for wonderful fan interactions and creations. And I have had wonderful interactions with wonderful people from this fandom and I will continue to treasure those I've met through it.
I love everything about TWST. The lore, the characters, the art, the story. It means so much to me as a piece of media and is a huge inspiration to me as both an artist and a writer. Idia in particular speaks to me on personal levels and he has become one of my favourite characters in all of media.
TWST has also taught me about love. Love for who you are despite what others think. Familial love (blood or no). Love between friends. TWST has taught me about bravery, protecting those you love, sticking to your ambitions, sacrifice and surprisingly cooking and food heh. TWST has also made me laugh like a maniac in the way only one other piece of media ever could (aha I'm so funny).
I was aware, however, that it would have it's issues just like any other fandom.
For one, I was VERY aware of Yana's rocky history as a creator. I knew she was controversial from the start and anything she created would subsequently also be very controversial. In the end, while I do disagree heavily with some parts of the media and I knew Yana could have done so much better with other parts (cough-leona event- cough), I think she did a great job overall. You can tell how much love and dedication went into creating TWST and I'm eternally thankful to her. Thank you, Yana-sensei.
For second...
I feel that you should be allowed to create and say whatever you want, but also take responsibility (to a certain extent) for the thing you created. For instance, if I make a piece of art and post it on the internet, that is my responsibility. I could choose NOT to post the piece of art (nasty comment, offensive joke etc etc etc but you get the idea), but I chose to do it anyway. Now, I can't completely control what people will do with the art (comment/post etc), but I still chose to post it. Same with this post. I CHOSE to post this, and I am ready to take responsibility for this post. If you're not ready to accept responsibility for your post, DON'T POST. As simple as that. (But alas nothing is ever simple)
There is a sore lack of responsibility it the TWST fandom (in any fandom, really, but this is about TWST specifically). Maybe less so here, but definitely so on other platforms.
People throw around nasty and downright hurtful jokes and comments like it's confetti, but cry and whine that they're innocent when called out about it. This is especially hurtful to the smaller, less represented groups in the fandom who create content they want to see. My advice? If you see something you don't agree with, mute, block and report if necessary and just move along. No one is forcing you to interact with what that person is making. A lot of hurt and asshole-ery would be avoided if people followed this simple rule.
I've also seen people throw hate to younger artists or members of the fandom and this always upsets me. TWST is especially prone to having a younger audience due to it being a Disney property, and that's FINE. Leave them be. They're not hurting anyone.
And finally, the amount of misinformation and misinterpretations of the TWST characters floating around is practically insulting. I've seen so many just plain wrong interpretations of a character or a line and I'm frankly sick of it. There are so many hard working and dedicated translators working their asses off to translate the game and put it on the internet for free. (Note: I am eternally grateful to the EN translation team for doing their absolute best on TWST EN. While it's still a solid translation, it has several big flaws and misses a lot of character nuances. I'd still recommend anyone getting into TWST to read the JP translations along with EN)
Here are my go to, feel free to add your own:
-TWST Wiki/Miraheze (always. These people are powerhouses)
- YuuRei (Twitter and YT). They make excellent analysis and translations.
-Shell_BB (YT)
-Otome Ayui (YT)
So, in closing... (TL:DR)
The internet sucks. People suck. Get used to it. Protect yourself and your mental health and move along.
TWST has flaws, and that's FINE.
Respect eachother
Take responsibility for what you say or post
Kids will be cringe. Leave them be. You were cringe too.
Read. Please. I beg of you.
SUPPORT THE PEOPLE I MENTIONED. THEY'RE WORKING THEIR ASSES OFF FOR US, THEY DESERVE THE WORLD.
Anyway, thanks for reading all that and sorry for the long vent. A cookie and a hug for you.
Now go forth and have a great day/night on purpose!!⭐🩷

Not to sound condescending cuz i really dont want that, but if something happening in a fandom is genuinely ruining your enjoyment of the original media/ruining your mental health, maybe you should distance yourself from the fandom for a while, perhaps even take a break, you're not gonna miss anything and no one's gonna judge you for it

Do you think it's okay to completely separate artist from creation? Because I just found out a comic artist I really like is like against Transgender and wants to ignore race and all the bad stuff going on. I really like their work but their beliefs bother me. I dont know if I should continue to enjoy what I use to and separate artist from work, or to just unfollow. I'm not the type of person to try and force my views into others so I'm not gonna be harassing them to try and change their opinion
Tumblr media
It depends on how you define ‘separate artist from creation’. Because there’s really two ways to do that. For the sake of this thought exercise let’s all imagine:
You have content you enjoy. You find out the author of that content is a less than stellar person. Maybe they support harmful causes, maybe they’re bigot and refuse basic respect to people different from them, maybe worldviews harm you and others that you love, etc.
Do you:
A) Pretend the author doesn’t exist but continue to consume the content while clapping your hands over your ears and going ‘LALALALALA’ and doing your best to forget who wrote it? Pretend Hatsune Miku wrote it instead? Separate the wonderful characters you’ve come to know and love, tear them from the hands of the author and say ‘they’re mine now, you never had them! I’ve assigned my own, healthier headcanons!’
OR
B) Acknowledge that their harmful worldviews will affect their content, regardless how indirectly... and consume the content anyway, but do your best not to support their views (i.e not following their main account, holding them responsible and not letting them get away with leaning on harmful/racist/outdated stereotypes)?
...
Here’s the thing though - if you picked B, you are NOT separating author from art. You are actively acknowledging that the author IS affecting their art - and aiming to minimize the harm caused through that content. You are already taking steps to protect others, and that does make a difference. That shows that you already know the answer to your own question.
We realistically cannot separate art from artist. Not fully. Nor, I would argue, should we attempt to do so!
In this media-saturated world, we all consume a LOT of content. Realistically, we cannot filter and check ALL of it - or all of its creators - to be 100% sure that we are only following/consuming only the most un-problematic of all people. It’s just not feasible and holding yourself to that standard is unrealistic.
But what we CAN all do is be critical. We can look at something that a transphobic person wrote and ask ‘does this content present harmful stereotypes?’ and we can ask ‘does this storyline have racist tropes?’ and etc.
I’m going to be frank - I consume what could considered ‘problematic’ content. Biggest example is probably Brooklyn 99. The thing is - it’s copaganda!  And throughout the show, there are very clear, ill-disguised attempts to gloss over abuse to police power by using quirky lovable characters that are constantly breaking the law but end up as the good guys at the end of each episode! And this isn’t even the point of the show - it’s treated as a non-issue. At the beginning of season 5 they delve into prison system power abuse - but only really make it an issue for the ‘innocent good-guy cop Jake’. The next few episodes after the fact it shows - BLATANTLY - Jake and Holt screaming at and lying to a (Black!) suspect to get a confession out of him. It’s treated as the right thing to do! A quirky idea that good-guy Jake had!
Wanna get psychological whiplash? Watch When They See Us on Netflix and then watch Jake yelling at his suspect in the interrogation room. Ask yourself why those two are different, or why they are interpreted differently. Then ask why they aren’t, and shouldn’t be.
And when I watch Brooklyn 99 I have two options:
I can cover my ears and sing LALALA IT’S JUST A SHOW, I’M JUST HAVING FUN! or I can be critical and practice calling out the blatantly police-propoganda-y tropes when they come on-screen and evaluate the good vs. the bad and ask myself every once in a while ‘is the Good here outweighed by the Bad? Is there content here that I couldn’t get elsewhere?’
In the end, no one can stop you from consuming content. If you want to keep watching/reading - you will find a way. But ignoring the issues, turning away and trying to imagine away the bad parts... will ALWAYS leave you with less than the full picture. It’s far more harmful to pretend that everything is fine for the sake of making yourself feel comfortable than it is to just face it head-on and admit that the author will inevitably leave a part of their beliefs in their art.
When people read my stories - even something as removed as WD!Steven - they will inevitably be coming in contact with MY political views, even if they’re not obvious. And honestly, I wouldn’t want people to separate my art from myself.
I want to make it clear - in many cases, unfollowing/blocking is absolutely the best thing to do. I’ve done that for many creators that I realized were... not good people. But that sort of thing is for you to decide, and so I won’t just tell you ‘go unfollow them!’. It’s way more important that you make this judgement not because of peer pressure - but because you’ve thought about it and made the decision that makes the most sense for YOU.

why not AceSaLu (or other variations) for actul shipping insteasd of ASL? it helps diffrentati between platonic and shipping, and that way you dont have to put AceLu and SaboLu (also why do you never put AceSabo? it feels like whenever you post about them My is always the center point and that seems... off?) hope you dont mind my words ^-^
I don’t use AceSaLu bc:
1) I don’t think it’s a common established ship name (not that I necessarily even think it’s a common enough ship to HAVE an established ship name). I don’t think I’ve ever encountered it before, and if I have, not enough times for it to leave an impression on me. And if there are spelling variations/inconsistencies to a ship name, then no one will search/block/use the tag and it therefore doesn’t serve much purpose beyond personal identification. This is my main reason.
2) I only ship Ace and Luffy, and Sabo and Luffy together romantically. I don’t mind Ace and Sabo together, but prefer to draw them platonic or queer platonic in my own content. Luffy is always the center for me personally. Hence why I also don’t tag Ace/Sabo.
Again that’s my personal preference on how I depict them. If it seems “off” to you, that means your preferences might be a bit different, and that’s ok! I hope you find other creators who depict them the way you like, or create your own content ^ ^
3) Because of my romantic shipping preferences, I feel my content will appeal more to people who like AceLu and SaboLu, and hence why I prioritize those tags. As Tumblr only shows the first 5 tags, any additional ship names I make up and add won’t show up anyway.
If there is even a hint of something being possible to interpret as romantic, I will always tag AceLu and SaboLu in addition to ASL and One Piece, so people who don’t ship them can block these much more consistent tags and be guaranteed to not see them. This may also block more subtle, can interpret as either platonic OR romantic sorta content which is where I usually am, but I prefer to play it safe, and after that it’s up to the individual to decide how to prioritize their tumblr viewing preferences.
4) It sounds kinda silly in Japanese
I hope this answers your question!

Tumblr media
there’s so, so, SO much nonsense surrounding this game that i’m gonna do my best to separate it into digestible bits, with its own categories. even then this is... wow. it’s big.
Warning tags will be added at the start of every section, but the general gist is: incest, pedophilia mentions, fetishization of rape and abuse, fetishization of mlm, fetishization of people of color, racism, ableism, nb erasure and transphobia. aside of the warnings, this post will also touch upon Scummy Business Practices
let’s get going
Dana Rune’s and Elle’s lack of moral fiber: #incest #pedophilia#rape and abuse fetishization #homophobia
tl;dr: dana loves incest porn, elle loves guy on guy rape, and the both of them are friends with at least one pedophile
dana rune has run, is still running an incest zine (please visit my faq on what i think about “thats not really incest” and “it’s just fictional!”). The Arcana, as a dev team, clearly does not care, as shown in their e-mail responses.
dana also very much doesn’t care and has reacted to any criticism on this by dismissing people and blocking actual incest victims who tried to contact her about it claiming it was for her “mental health”
in some tweets she claims she “interprets” the characters as not siblings, but she never really cared enough to cover her ass when it all began (she happily admits she’d “cross the incest line”)
dana has commissioned artists who also ship incest, draw near-pedophilic art that’s supposed to pass as acceptable because the character involved is supposedly not a minor despite looking like a child down to wearing pigtails (the character is also wearing a racist-ass belly dancer outfit), AND even made white-washed fanart of The Arcana.
dana follows twitter user kapymui who also produces incestuous Fire Emblem art
dana has retweeted omocat long after it came out that omocat is, at the very least, consuming pedophilic content (on “omocat didn’t know what shota meant!”: yes they did)
moving on, elle has a long, long, LONG history of fetishizing mlm and the rape and abuse that comes with yaoi and had a rich, RICH “yaoi” tag before they deleted their tumblr
they curiously deleted their tumblr right after i made this reblog
shortly after that, tumblr user thalassiq remade and started attacking and insulting any blogs criticizing them - even people providing support in IMs. Since this doesn’t match Dana and Elle’s normal pity parties I’m personally willing to believe they were just a person wanting to start shit - but it’s so telling how Elle used this chance to dismiss everyone who disagrees with them by calling them “children” and did not even bother to offer a kind word to people who were harassed and even had their trauma mocked by this person. It costs 0 dollars to say “that was not me but I’m sorry about people who were hurt.”
Dana and Elle are close with Ava’s Demon creator Michelle Czajkowski aka that one person who endorses child porn of her characters, and even had her draw a promo image for the game. Michelle has been creating highly sexualized content of her minor characters for a while now.
ok so elle and dana are gross freaks, how is that related to the game?
oh it’s very very related
Dana Rune’s and Elle’s lack of moral fiber that’s Actually Inside The Game or The Game’s Blog: now with more #racism #fetishization of poc and mlm #whitewashing #fat hate #pedophilia #nb erasure #transphobia
tl;dr: the arcana is filled to the brim with racism! so much of it! haha holy shit! and that’s not even where it ends!!!
their game is rated PG-13 but includes incredibly sexual situations such as Julian making this fucking face while getting off on pain. This isn’t the only time Dana and Elle use their videogame aimed at young teens to showcase their kinks and fetishes. I have no issue with NSFW or titillating content, as long as it’s rated accordingly. This content is NOT and it’s a blatant disregard for their audience just to have a larger, more pliable demographic and have more money sent their way.
if you start your argument with “well, teenagers look at porn” 1. shut up 2. theres a HUGE difference between teenagers going after adult content aimed at adults, and adults creating content they know will be seen by kids barely starting puberty
as pointed above, dana has 0 qualms literally commissioning people who make whitewashed fanart of her own fucking game that’s supposed to be all about the inclusivity and safe spaces
thearcanagame blog has a pattern of reblogging whitewashed fanart (before you come in swinging with the good ole “ITS THE LIGHTING”: 1. no it isnt 2. the artist should’ve picked better lightning then 3. i draw and post shit online too so dont come telling me i just dont understaaaand),
fanart of their fat characters showed skinnier than they are in their sprites (although to be real for a moment - Portia is curvy at most and them behaving she’s fat rep is HILARIOUS).
going back to NSFW content: nadia and asra are overwhemlingly sexualized in the game, and were the first to have sexualized CGs and sprites introduced.
CGs: Asra’s here, here aND HERE, Nadia’s here with a NSFW warning because she’s just got her whole fucking ass out. Sprites: Asra’s thank god for whoever compiled it all in one image, Nadia’s and once again, NSFW warning lmfao!
Julian’s sprites on the other hand are noticeably tamer, including the one where he’s fucking strapped in leather. His only sexual (NSFW warning because its literally softcore tentacle porn WHICH, ONCE AGAIN, SHOULDN’T BE PUT IN A GAME AIMED AT 13YOS) CGs were also included months after Nadia and Asra received any of theirs.
Through all of the updates, people have constantly requested that Asra and Nadia’s sexualization be toned down, and time after time The Arcana just churned out fetishistic, hypersexualized content at an absurd rate, especially when compared to the one white love interest.
Oh, speaking of the one white love interest: Julian is based off of Jeff Goldblum (this is not spectulation - they p much bring it up at any given time) but like. If Jeff Goldblum was white. They base their favorite love interest off their supposed favorite man in the world but casually leave his skin tone behind. Lmao.
they also play favorites very obviously - in the prologue, Nadia and Asra have a romance paid scene each. Julian has a scene... that requires no coins. Julian was also the first LI to receive three CGs, two of them requiring no coins, while both Asra’s and Nadia’s first CGs were behind a paywall
Dana and Elle have been notoriously skittish about confirming or denying their characters’ ethnicities. After hyping for weeks on thearcanagame that they would confirm the character’s races they basically made a post that amounted to “well they’re not white lol!”
they only relented after the perfectly understandable outrage... and posted a thread about it on Elle’s twitter. Nothing on the actual thearcanagame blog. Anyway, here’s the thread. Note how there’s mention of Julian being Jeff Goldblum... but nothing about him and Portia being Jewish (or “fantasy Jewish” as it were).
The one time they did confirm their jewishness dana then backpedaled and said she shouldn’t have done that lol.
another fun tidbit of how well The Arcana handles race and how much it cares about feedback from fans: an ask was sent about an anon begging for Nadia to step on them. The blog, with the finesse of a bunch of horny dumbasses, didn’t just publish the ask, but approved of it (even though the fans of color had long, long, LONG been telling everyone not to fetishize Nadia into a “step on me kween” wet dream). People were outraged, of course, and the blog ~apologized~ and said they were still learning.... then a new chapter included a scene of Nadia stepping on the Apprentice. 🙃
not to mention elle, on their twitter, made a passive aggressive “women can be doms?” tweet, trying to twist it into a “yr oppressing women” angle (when the issue is that women of color are always constantly portrayed as aggressive and domineering)
Now for a wombo combo of racism and Elle’s fetishization of mlm:
the devs have spoken at length of how Julian’s and Asra’s relationship was quite unhealthy. In a paid scene in Asra’s route, they’re depicted as Asra being disgusted w Julian touching him+Julian following Asra to his shop when Asra refused his offer to go with him (aka julian... stalked him lmfao).
.......... this scene is promptly followed by a highly sexual scenario where Julian’s pain fetish is played up. Remember how this game is rated PG-13? Me neither. Asra’s previous disgust with Julian is also forgotten, for some reason (and by some reason i mean Elle wants to make them fuck w/o buildup or logic).
Then Asra’s route has yet another paid scene dedicated to Asrian, even though he’s supposed to not even like Julian! And be head over heels with the Apprentice! But Elle just has to make these two be entangled despite insisting their relationship was not good for either of them!
Now here’s the kicker: Julian doesn’t have any paid scenes related to his romance with Asra. Note how it’s one of the brown LIs whose route is highjacked by the white LI, but not vice versa. Hmmmmm.
Now, on the topic of Asra: thearcanagame has said repeatedly that he’s nb and uses he/him pronouns, and promised (since last year) that there would be dialogue where he speaks about his gender
as of the making of this post such dialogue still does not exist
so basically asra is the nb to dumbledore’s gay: anyone who just plays the game w/o keeping up with the official blog has no idea of what asra’s gender is supposed to be.
aka he’s not nb. he’s just a cis guy. the arcana just doesn’t want to put its money where its mouth is, i dont care if elle is nb themself. the team made a promise which has not been fulfilled yet and i suspect will not be.
instead, our introduction to canon nb characters is... these two.
By “these two” i mean neither vulgora nor valdemar are even fucking human, and stick out like sore thumbs with their monstruousness.
so our nb rep is... non-human villains. a few books later one of Nadia’s sisters with they/them pronouns shows up, but that’s too little too late on top of the fact that we should’ve known Asra was nb from the first to begin with. It’s a fucking embarrassment and an insult.
at least two villains are visibly disabled (Lucio’s missing arm and Volta’s blind eye+intentionally asymmetrical face). Julian’s eye doesn’t count because, spoilers, he’s not lacking an eye and even if he was it’d still be hidden behind a dashing eyepatch instead of grotesquely displayed as a sign of his lacking morality.
BUT WAIT! IT DOESN’T EVEN END THERE!
The Arcana Exploits The App Business Model To Price Their Full Game at $500, $1000 if the three extra routes make it out, and they never delivered their Kickstarter rewards:
tl;dr: you heard me
the original price per route was planned on being $1.99
they took that “subject to change” really seriously, it seems, because now each route, once the game is fully out, is estimated to cost around $170 each.
both those screenshots are taken from this post which explains in detail just how truly scummy all of The Arcana’s business model and decisions are: https://mysticmicrotransactions.tumblr.com/post/174308723344/dishonesty-from-the-arcana
the tl;dr is basically what’s listed in the beginning of this section, but other highlights from that post are: the use of addictive gambling mechanics such the Wheel of Fortune, and the dazzling calls to action in the new mini-game.
something that The Arcana supporters forget (or choose to ignore) is the fact that for a long, long time the game did not have the mini-game or the log-in rewards for coins. Players depended only on the gambling of the WoF or paying absurd amounts of money for the new chapters.
the devs went from playing the victims who were unable of controlling prices to (as spoken of in the link from mysticmicrotransactions) saying the making of the game (a pathetic little app game backed by a studio and a kickstarter) justifies the prices
they also gave people false hope about maybe changing the prices in the future, all while bleeding money from loyal players in “micro” transactions
the arcana literally added a $99.99 coins option on their latest update
in case it hasn’t sunk in yet: you can pay a hundred dollars upfront to the arcana, and you still will not have access to the whole game
there is no defense to this
none
“it’s free stop whining” let me explain:
“spend months on end accumulating fake currency or pay hundreds of dollars up-front to be able to play” is a scummy business model no matter how you look at it
if i can spend $60 upfront to play an AAA game there’s no excuse to demand more than that for a game with much smaller and, honestly, inferior content
the combination of there being already far and few games featuring lgbt characters and characters of color AND the little cult of personality set up by Dana and Elle makes people feel that spending money to support them is an acceptable expense.
it’s not
manipulating people into spending ridiculous amounts of money and then claiming “it’s their choice” is just scummy business, baby, and thats all the arcana does
the devs are brats who instead of admitting $500 is absurd for a game instead write petty little caricatures into their game - like, lbr: dana, elle, if i could afford diamonds in my hair i wouldn’t have even bothered with your shitstain of a game
despite bragging that ppl would get the full story w/o needing to pay, the paid scenes are pretty much required - the first few books of julian’s route have no romance without accessing any of the paid options. you dont even get so much as a kiss in without handing coins over. many, many people were baffled when julian had a teary break-up scene when from their perspective they hadn’t even started building a relationship.
wow that’s more than i ever thought it’d be
and i’ve been aware of their bullshit for near a whole year now!
i don’t have much of a note to end this on, other than: the arcana just isn’t even that good. it suffers from weak writing, pathetic character development and above all actually harmful content. do not try to argue with me on any of these points unless you’ve read all of that, because whatever you have to say i’ve likely mentioned before. if you still are that determined to yell at a me on the internet, please preface your argument with the phrase “I’m a pee pee poo poo man” so I know you’ve read everything in here. thank you!

man, i dunno why so many anons gotta be such massive jackasses, you don't deserve it. hell, i don't even ship ryuketsu (I lean towards a more queerplatonic partnership interpretation, and im generally allergic to romantic shipping anyways) and i still deeply appreciate the thought and research and care you put into your meta.
@eldritchgentleman reblogged your photo and added:
Fuck the opinions of others and enjoy what you love! They don’t own you, listening to them doesn’t make you happy so screw them with a pineapple.
@simon-newman reblogged your photo and added:
Also Ryuko and Senketsu is a valid ship.
@eric-coldfire reblogged your photo and added:
Absolute valid ship, op. Ignore the haters and keep being you.
@kuribo4indahouse reblogged your post and added:
Just laugh at these Goop.
@badgerjaw replied to your post “goops, you’re starting to stoop to the level of those that are bugging…”
I don’t think this anon knows what patronizing means, nor can they tell the difference between getting a big head and acknowledging the amount you do in this fandom. To each their own, nonny, cheers
@badgerjaw replied to your post “You realize some of us don’t have Tumblr accounts, we’re coming over…”
At least the shirt in question can consent; wonder if these nonnies are gonna get on the people who abuse their non-sentient socks?
@korra-n-stuff replied to your post “You realize some of us don’t have Tumblr accounts, we’re coming over…”
can these anons please go away? you’re wonderful goop, dont change. These people just has sticks in their asses
@fromtheriverbanks replied to your post “Guys, come on. It’s a work of fiction. People are allowed to like…”
I love your analysis. I tend to agree with the stuff about Ryuko and Senketsu and think it’s a big part of what makes the show beautiful. If there were PhDs in Kill la Kill, you would deserve one.
Hey, thank you for the supportive comments.
I don’t approve of the behavior of the anons, but it’s totally fair to think that my ship isn’t valid, or my points are bad, or I’m embarrassing and hilarious, with my head up my butt, or whatever. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. And when it comes to my opinions on cartoons, I’m more than open to discussion. That’s why I write so many essays about this stuff in the first place. I want to know what people think. I want to consider other points of view.
The problem isn’t that the anons disagree with me; I don’t mind at all that they do! When it comes to Ryuketsu, I really, seriously, hardly focus on them romantically at all (at least, I think so). I just really enjoy their relationship and find it sweet. Not everyone will think it’s sweet, and that’s fine! You don’t have to follow me or my work. You could even block out all my “ramblings” and just look at my news posts (which I should really get back on…), reblogs, and translations of official material.
I do a lot of work here, but nobody has to like it. No matter how hard I try, I know I’ll never be good enough for lots of people in this fandom. I won’t lie and say it doesn’t hurt—it does—but I can’t fault anyone for that. I won’t jive with everyone. That’s the way of things.
The problem is that these messages are personally insulting and discriminatory over my opinions on cartoon, and when I defend myself, I’m suddenly the one being cruel. To the anons being less than savory, I struggle a lot with my self-worth. My saying that I don’t think others would think highly of you for attacking me isn’t me being big-headed; it’s simply true. So many people have sent me supportive messages, with their names attached. Just look at this list. If I were to say that your attacking me didn’t matter to anyone else but me, then that would be a slap in the face to those who are going out of their way to speak in my defense. What you’re doing affects more than just me, and given that I still haven’t received any messages on Discord, I feel like you all understand very well that what you’ve been doing is wrong.
I’m not sorry for being disappointed. I thought our community was better than this. I’m honestly heartbroken that it seems there’s just been this big mass of angry people who were waiting for the opportunity to spam my inbox with hate.
If anyone would like to discuss a problem they have with me, there are so many better ways than to fill my inbox with vitriol. It doesn’t feel good to get called out for doing something problematic, but I am always aiming to be better. If I could be a better person or content creator in some way, or if my readings on this show are really hurtful to you, I am willing to listen and discuss that with you. But I am not okay with being ragged on like this. Nobody should be okay with this kind of treatment over opinions about cartoons.
Oh, and the “shirtfucker” comment is completely uncalled for. Just because I like a character and think that he can be a romantically viable partner for someone doesn’t mean that I suddenly want to fuck him. Believe it or not, you can like someone without wanting to have sex with them or harboring some romantic interest for them.
It was probably inappropriate to write all this on a post meant for thanks. I thank all of you for taking the time to support me. I’ve felt so bad and hopeless, so it’s reassuring to know that I’m not alone, no matter how much I (and these anons) might try to convince me that I am.
In the end, I’m upset with the anons, but I want to know what they would like from me. I’m not asking them to change their opinions, so why should I have to change mine? I agree that what I like is problematic, but I don’t glorify those problematic elements and recognize that it’s totally fair for others to not like what I like because of them. If what I say is seen as so silly and stupid, why care so much to look at my words?
But regardless, I will keep being me. I have too much love in my heart for what I love. I’m very glad that there are others out there who want to love it with me (even if maybe not quite as much!)

augh i keep forgetting to mention.....like a few weeks ago i saw the vid also on twitter where charlie day was talking about how, i forget the names of the science guys, but how the fan reaction to interpreting them as a couple made him decide to play his character as if that were canon b/c he thought it was such a good interpretation and offered good depth/context......i doubt i’ll be able to see pacrim2 but seeing as how it would never have had that on the surface level anyways and nobodys said anything about it being canon and the way he was talking abt it made it seem like it was all in his own acting choices and not like existing in the script.....but still
for me ive been like.....periodically thinking about it this whole time b/c its like....so wild to see someone talk about the fan response / specifically address fans creations like fic/art n shit in a positive manner & to also like....speak of a noncanon gay coupling with a total lack of derision or even as though its something less serious than any other theories or analysis......... i am still just like so refreshed lol i didnt realize that a 40 sec interview segment would feel so significant that im still thinking on it weeks later
i mean especially as the difference in concepts of what cishet dude fans do as being something you can make into a movie w steven spielburg, whereas, as someone pointed out, a woman writing a lengthy self-insert reference-heavy series of crossovers.......gets a different reaction...........well anyways thats a whole other tangent
like things are better now for getting canon gay characters but thats only relative, its still not Good, despite straight ppl thinking homophobia is over so why should there be a romcom about positive experiences for a gay teen in THEIR movie theaters.......like its still wild to hear that even an actors personal take on his own performance is “yeah i was playing a gay character w a gay love interest” like. obviously we’re still never getting non-subtext material in the Big Movies. woo
plus im still remembering.....god....from like half a decade ago some panel abt sp/n where someone stands up and like even just begins to start a question about what-if canon bisexuality or smthing and is like just at once met w this scorn from like everyone else & cut off & even online ppl were like acting as if she was out of line or someone attacking ppl like some gotcha question or being inappropriate for asking ppl to even momentarily acknowledge even the concept of nonstraightness....plus on a show notorious for queerbaiting its fanbase so yknow another tangent there lord
and like im also still like thinking on this whole thing a little while ago where i’d had a handful of creators n shit who i followed on twitter & i just ended up like one by one unfollowing ppl or whatever coz everyone was talking about how bad it could be to get fan reactions or their investment in non-canon ideas. and like i realize that yeah everyone is aware that any huge general group of ppl is gonna have a lot of shit elements yet also Not All Fans and everything, and i also dont feel as if they shouldntve been talking about how they felt / what they thought about things or whatever, but like. i just increasingly freely block/unfollow/mute ppl or whatever just if i want to vs if i feel like its a good enough / serious reason....and it just honestly was like reading for weeks a was was essentially exclusive negative takes on fans not liking something......like i just was like yknow what just the way this is all being presented to me as so uniformly negative and me from the other side of the glass as its sprinkled across my tl like..........this just makes me feel bad so im just gonna unfollow a dozen or so ppl
like it made me feel bad back then and i still feel bad about it now, writing about how it felt bad....
also seeing as back in the day (like say ten yrs ago idk) when this stuff was even more universally looked down on, im still like part of me always tentative about stuff on my own blog if its not canon...........like forgetting that i dont have to have an element of shame even though who would give a shit..........like the concept of stuff reaching actors / creators and them being like “oh word actually thats sick” is still so foreign and especially w that twitter thing just adding to the assumption that the best you can hope for is to think it’d be found Tolerable or Only Mildly Abrasive And Irritating...psygh
anyways tldr im still thinking abt how nice it was to hear half a minute of charlie day talk seriously about considering fan’s takes on “this is / should be gay” as interesting and legitimate and presenting the whole concept respectfully...........
