My Design/Art Progress of this guy over time ⸜( ´ ꒳ ` )⸝

I accidentally forgot the RP group 2 and 3 when I was making the panels, and then totally forgot the 'hero' uniform in Ending A HAHAHA

Anywei, the fullbodies are placed under the cut (alongside some older design for the same versions and ramblings). I'm gonna give a heads up/warning that this is going to be long

Ali's first designs! I already established his actual story before I joined the rp group and went with him when deciding on which characters to use. At that time, all I know is that he's going to use a red suit and will have purple hair, so when the rp group closed, and I finalized his design again for his main story, his hair became a lighter shade of purple.

And then here's his uniform as a villain in the main story. For whatever he's wearing on his eyes on 2020 version, I leave it up to other's interpretation on whether it's a visor or blindfold since it could work either way! I removed it on the 2021 version because I thought there's something intimidating with a villain who shamelessly shows his face amongst the heroes and villains of his faction who uses a mask to hide their identities.

More RP groups! The settings for this world is totally different from his story, so there's a huge changes to his design, but I tried keeping some parts of his character same (like his personality). Other than that, I am actually obsessed with the 2021 one, so I'm adding it as one of his past life iteration since it works with the story I planned for him.

And then here we have his older version, which soon became his appearance for Ending A of the story. There wasn't really supposed to be any story for the older version since it's more for a short epilogue, but now, he also has a 'hero' disguise (it's a 'hero' disguise, but he's considered a criminal since he infiltrates hero missions for unknown reasons)

Ending B unfortunately doesn't have any fullbodies :< but on that ending, he has a lot of injuries so he's covered in a lot of bandages and stays in bed most of the time.

Lastly, for the Iskai/Magic School AU and Ending C. Starting off with the Ending C, which wasn't supposed to be a thing, but I got so sad with the original endings A and B, so I made another one where everyone's happy this time. I wouldn't say it's the 'true' ending for the story, but it's the best one for me.

And then the AU, wherein I thought his initial design looked too simple, so I went and redesigned him and slightly made him look older. The new design made him look older than the main story though, which makes me cry since he's supposed to be in 3rd year high school, but I'm gonna use the excuse that they age differently in this AU.

Almost forgot, here's a bonus which is Ali in his past life. He's a pirate captain and just a side character for another story

Anyway, I never intended to make this guy one of my 'main' characters since the story was supposed to be a side/extra thing, but it got so out of hand, especially when I started thinking about the ending and the after years characters.

this whole idea in both the fandom and the games themselves that being a people attached to their past & a lost civilization is a failing whereas a celebration of the present is something to strive for wrt elven & dwarven culture is something that reads as fundamentally western & liberal to me.

you know those extended elemental charts that go like fire, water, earth, air, light, darkness, etc. and always throw in something that's technically already covered by the others, like ice (water) or metal (earth) or isn't technically an "element" but sounds cool (mind, soul, time). well i think that flesh should count as its own distinct element in this configuration too.

troy came out as trans to his dad and extraordinary was like "how wonderful!! do you have a name in mind? (gasp) oh, you should use the other name your mother and i picked out for you! ✨️trameighlton lougferd✨️ !!!!! how does that sound?" and troy (13 years old) very hesitantly goes "good!" because he was expecting this to go so much worse and he doesn't want to upset his dad by saying no, and i guess you can get troy out of trameighlton so it doesn't really matter, right? and extraordinary goes on about his beautiful baby boy and how happy he is that he told him and he leaves saying something about getting everything changed within the day, all for his perfect son. and troy was left standing alone in his dad's office.

Before people start sowing more Discourse over Cinderella’s Castle, let me remind you that the entire premise is rooted in Classic Fairytale Tropes. Specifically One-Dimensional Villains, Good and Evil Magical Creatures, and Shapeshifters, in this case.

Historically, yes, the origination of Trolls likely has unsavory roots -I’m not claiming it does or doesn’t because I’m no expert- and potentially they could’ve used some other magical creature, but Trolls are essentially the staple of evil (and if its not trolls, its Ogres) in fairytales along with the wicked stepmother trope.

[They also show up in other Cinderella retellings such as Ella Enchanted! So I think it’s unfair to criticize Starkid as if they wrote the script in bad faith.]

Keeping with that note, it’s also very common for the Gorgeous, but evil, Stepmother to use magic to hide her true self but shapeshift into her true form during nefarious deeds to show that she may be beautiful but she’s wicked on the inside; this is portrayed both in novels and media as a quick and straightforward to convey a message to the primary audience for fairytales (usually children lbvs) that a character is BAD. [Think Ursula using magic to steal Ariel’s voice and masquerading as a desirable human, but turning into a giant version of her Squid form during the final confrontation.]

I’ve seen arguments that the Stepmother and Sisters being Trolls using human flesh to hide amongst the villagers as humans is Transphobic, but there is no suggestion that the trolls stop being women when they reveal themselves as trolls. There’s quite a few lines between the trolls about the the stepmother being a woman such as a joke about painful labor with one of the girls, and how romance between men and women is different between humans and trolls

I know in our current day and age, nothing can exist on the internet without someone calling it problematic or picking it apart; and that’s the price we all pay for putting ourselves out on a public forum, especially as artists.

But I think it’s important to use critical thinking and media literacy with these things. It’s also important to sometimes just take a day and enjoy things as they are, flaws and all, because you know there were was no ill intent behind its creation and the musical has only been on the internet for a day.

Let it settle before you start tearing it apart, please.
