Kristen meets Takeshi for the first time at Alcatraz. He has the same face as Ryker- almost the same smell (minus shitty soap and the rancid floatation gel), the same clothing- everything.
But she looks into his eyes and they are different. His facial expressions are different, and the way he moves is different. It makes her cringe.
They meet, and Takeshi Kovacs scowls and scoffs and makes snarky comments and Kristen almost wants to yell, 'fuck you and fuck this case, and why can't you just be who I wanted you to be?' but when she looks into his eyes, they aren't mean or filled with malice like she had expected, contrary to his venom-filled words.
His eyes droop and are filled with a sadness not even 250 years can clear from a heart that isn't even yours.
'I don't think your mean,' she whispers to herself quietly when she finds him sprawled on the ground in the alleyway, his body slick with sweat, a strange aura surrounding him.
And she looks down at him, frowning when she sees his goddam pretty face again, and she cries later that night for the unfamiliar expression of confusion that's plastered there when he sees her.
'You have sad eyes.'

Nico and Percy's dynamic through the series is eternally funny to me, because it's just. like.
Percy's having a constant mental struggle between his fatal flaw of loyalty with a promise he made to Bianca to protect Nico, versus his Big 3 kid desire to maim other Big 3 kids / Poseidon descendant urge to totally maim Nico specifically. He hates Nico so so much. He thinks Nico's annoying and weird at best, and creepy/sketchy when he's older. The only positive thoughts Percy has towards Nico are "He's Bianca's brother and Bianca was my friend and I owe her/He's Hazel's brother and Hazel is my friend and would kill me if I was mean to him," "He's a powerful asset and useful ally (if questionable)," and "He's kinda pathetic and I feel maybe a little bad about it." Percy has multiple occasions throughout the series where he strongly considers - and on one occasionally actually goes through with - throttling Nico.
Meanwhile, Nico is following around Percy like a lost puppy. He explicitly can never bring himself to even dislike anything about Percy no matter how hard he tries. He has a whole bit in BoO where he's mentally going "UGH he's so stupid BUT IT'S ENDEARING HOW DARE HE." He's totally smitten. He's making deals with his dad for Percy. He's making convoluted plans to help Percy stand a chance against Kronos. During the entirety of BoTL it's like he's playing tsundere - "I'm helping NOT PERCY SPECIFICALLY with this quest! Me helping Percy would be SILLY because I DEFINITELY HATE HIM." Then he proceeds to show up to Percy's birthday party to basically ask him on a weird date and spend the entire next book scrambling around trying to help him or protect him or impress him. And Percy could not give less of a shit.
Just. That dynamic is so funny to me. Percy is the founder of the Nico Protection Club in that he's the one they're all protecting Nico from and meanwhile Nico is throwing himself at Percy to the point where the literal god of gay love calls him out on it.

Little things I'm catching on a rewatch:
From "who would wanna use their last days not fucking and fighting?"
To
"Last day of the afterlife and you're not off snorting a line off some hunk's abs?"
"Eh. You fucked one cannibal pool boy, you've fucked them all."
"I guess you have changed."
"Hey, Charlie said live tonight however we wanted, so pour me a fresh one! And lets get to living!"
(I am sobbing, you hear me? SOBBING)
(Also if you listen very closely to this scene while they talk at the bar you can hear a slowed down version of Loser, Baby in the background) (Once again: SOBBING)
"I can sense they're planning to kill me. But when?! How?!"
(Bro thats's so meta. They didn't need to do him dirty like that.)
"Don't worry mom, I'll make u proud."
"Only...seven...years. Off doing something important, I'm sure! But this kingdom was really something she cared about"
Welp. She's relaxing is heaven.
(Really love how Lucifer was built up to be this awful person, and Lilith a very loving person, but so far it seems to be the other way around.)
Funny things I missed the first time around:
THE TEXT.
"Bad. It makes us look bad!"
"Funny, I was going for hilarious."
Vaggie doesn't know what she's saying. Alastor was right. The text had me dying fr.
Never noticed Alastor had a little tux get-up for a few seconds I feel so robbed. Also in the commercial, he has his back to the camera and I just LOVE the possibilities as to WHY.
Did Vaggie force him to participate?
Did he still want to be included bc he's a little egotistical attention seeker?
Did he do it it bc he knew Vox would see it and it would fuck with him?
I need to know because like why are you even there little red demon man if you're gonna be barely out of frame and looking away??
Either vox had two mugs made except one with extra text OR (and my personal headcanon) he rushed to write "FUCK ALASTOR" on his mug just before Stayed Gone.

fionna's world being represented by a dandelion makes so much sense ... they're weeds. yet people make wishes through them, changing their whole meaning from something meant to be destroyed to something hopeful.
dandelions are also resilient and it makes sense that something associated with them would. you know. perservere despite the destruction caused by the scarab.
but ultimately i think what REALLY made me tear up over this is that dandelions are really boring plants. when you're a kid you blow on them and make your wish but they're not eyecatching or anything but still, fionna's final wish was for her old world to still exist as it was when she left it (> plain and simple. boring even).
like the moment she realized she would lose her friends, and that her friends might forget each other if the world got its magic back, she immediately decided she didn't want it and I think that ties back to the dandelion metaphor so well... like, do you really need magic to be real to find it everywhere? or can you turn something boring into something magical?

actually i love it when the characters are all lying. i love it when they all have secrets and none of them trust each other. i love being given clues that solve puzzles i haven't even been presented with yet. i also love it when i get chills watching a scene without even knowing what it means, and when i do know what it means, i get even more chills. i love theorizing and thinking and solving and coming up with possibilities of where a story might be going. i love it and i will do it for free, for fun, for no real reason.
this is a mystery appreciation post!! if you appreciate mysteries and secrets and stories that slowly unravel before you, please interact!!!
