Okay so, yesterday we had that lovely message that was edited from our beloved captain. But then our dear friend @meowzawowaza_ over on twitter released yet another part of the video that specifically went over Rhys' frustrations with the cancellation. Now it's less positive, but as she says, it adds another layer that is helping rally the troops to keep fighting. Here's the thread with the videos. Apologies if you don't have twitter... And well, then there was Wee John Wednesdays Monday! Where we not only got to see the expected three cast members: Kristian Nairn, Vico Ortiz, and Madeleine Sami, but a SURPRISE guest, Leslie Jones who crashed the Instagram live party.

TECHS GOGGLES ON THE SHIP… i knew tech wasnt gonna come back, it would’ve taken away from his sacrifice but i would’ve loved to see him again. lowkey surprised we didn’t get a cx-2 reveal, people thought he was tech, cody, a clone specifically of crosshair, dogma, fucking slick. (real ones know cx-2 is actually fives hes not dead guys TRUST!!11!!1111!!11!!)

anyways god that was such a satisfying ending and im VERY pleased, crazy how this season had NO bad ep. incredibly sad this show is over tho. this show has been on my mind constantly for the past three years im so sad to see it go but im also see happy we got to see these characters lives play out in such a beautiful way. sorry for this being essay length i just had a LOT of thoughts about this ep.

I'm sorry you had to see a take that didn't make sense. I feel like since the epicness of bi buck the fandom has had a rift and is just like a headless chicken that is running into wall. While it's hilarious how many jokes and memes came out of it (the screaming "buck" from eddie still my favorite thing) and also all the love for Buck and Oliver still makes me emotional, we unfortunatly have had people having not so great reactions. Sure it's out of hurt cause some wanted Eddie and never Tommy (I'm a buddie Stan but Tommy is perfect for baby bi buck's first step like I can't think of a better way of to handle this from the show, and here I go being emotional again) some protect themselves from the possible pain that buddie won't happen cause to them that's as far as the show will come to it. But still sucks, and I'm sorry it happened to you cause between your posts and your tags you have been part of the amazing ride that this moment has given us so im sorry you had to wake up at 7 to shitty takes and hope your day gets brighter and brighter!

ok this is kind of just a rant so this will probably be sloppy but like so it’s confirmed there’s no jemaine in ofmd :( which i’m sad about but i wouldn’t normally be as pissed as i am about it AND HERES WHY IM PISSED

so there was a rumor going around that he was going to play captain kidd? it might have been fake but it was relatively popular from what i saw and multiple people said it was true

so i waited patiently watching our flag means death, it was really good but i have a hyperfixation on specifically jemaine so it was hard to really care about it because i mean well, hyperfixation and all that (also after i recently found out taika waititi is a fucking cunt it was hard to watch but eh whatever i got over it for the character and also rhys ❤️❤️ but fuck taika)

and then on the last episode, they mentioned captain kidd and i was like OH MY GOD CAPTAIN KIDD PLEASE LET THIS INTRODUCE JEMAINE OH MY GOD and then they keep talking and like ok well um like you mentioned captain kidd? ummmmm ok what now

like other people have talked about it but it would have been PERFECT for him to show up at the end somehow or something or at least get some type of cameo especially after they mentioned his rumored character 😭

the worst part is i’m still holding out hope that he comes in next season (if there is one which with the popularity of the show it will be but also they ended this season in a way that could be the end to the whole show? there still will probably be another season though) BUT here are my fears about the next season involving jemaine and captain kidd

first of all i’m just scared there won’t be a second season so none of this will matter

captain kidd might have just been mentioned for no good reason and not be in season 3

i don't know if i'm watching the third season if it gets renewed. i'm too fucking traumatised from previous favourite character deaths, i think it's shitty writing to kill off the disabled character and the character who has just found some happiness after who knows how many years of having not had any of that. while i don't know if i'd call it problematic (ableist or bury your gays), i do think it's shitty, and it definitely is personally triggering to me.

so i'm doing what i did when spn killed off cas: i'm never going to watch the episode.

i'm also going to try harder to not care about ongoing media again. i'm tired. i'm really tired of caring about things and then ending up having to grieve them. i'm not ok. i'm certainly re-jaded to fucking tv shows. i shouldn't have let myself care. every fucking time they fuck you over and you have new trauma and grief.

and don't you fucking dare come tell me "you can't have grief/trauma over a fictional character" i will full on block you.

it's valid if you enjoy the show, i would never tell you not to.

there are major character death scenes in media i have enjoyed, as well. it's ok. just because something hurt me doesn't mean you aren't allowed to like it.

i know this sounds like an interview but im actually genuinely curious, I've been with ofmd since it's release but departed from the fandom quickly

God I wish I knew lol. The short answer is probably a mixture of brain rot, love for a certain character and spite

I watched the show and Fandom from afar when season 1 was airing, I always kind of wanted to watch because the Fanart intrigued me (and I already knew from the Fanart who my favorite would be, too lol) but I could smell it would be a show that would grip my brain tight and not let me go and I wasn't ready for that, so I put off watching it.

Then season 2 was drawing near and I finally watched in one go.

It was okay! It was sweet but it didn't grip me as expected, however what was as expected was that Izzy was my fav. I loved episode 1x10, that one probably interested me the most bc it set up a nice cliffhanger for more.

Then I slept on it and basically woke up insane over it the next day, I could not tell you 😭 suddenly I was fully locked on to that show. Then season 2 dropped and it just continued like that. Full on obsessed with every episode, like damn. I loved watching. Up to the point where I didn't, because the final episode was a letdown, it was such letdown. Why I didn't drop it afterwards idk.

I saw some awful takes online about Izzy and especially people who liked him, I got some awful messages too and it triggered my spite & fight center. Because fuck it, I love this character dearly, and even tho I think s2 did every character dirty, I still love them for what they could have been.

I see ofmd like a sandbox, that gave us an interesting setting and great characters and as long as I have love and ideas for this sandbox I'm gonna be here drawing (and occasionally writing lol)

So yeah, a mixture of obsession, spite and mostly lbr my love for Izzy 🤷

The feelings!!! And the refreshing feeling of having canon firmly in my mind, and fanon far from my thoughts. 😌

My god though- the last two episodes are still so fucking brutal-

Edward’s heart is BROKEN. He had to shut down and destroy everything that reminded him of Stede; to start over so completely… except for the painting, to remind him…

To remind him never to mistake a lighthouse for guidance again… to remember cracking up on the rocks when he tried to follow that light of hope.

To see THAT Edward, in the depth of despair and pain and loneliness… go on the journey to healing and connecting with new friends, and “trying something new, man!”

-and then to see Stede as well; after the epiphany he had, his transformation and sacrifice to be with Edward (and with his crew!!!) —what is he gonna DO to undo the harm he set into motion?? To show what he’s learned?!? Ahhh!!!

OKAY SO haha. I talked a little bit about how I got into OFMD on my Jim post (spoiler alert: it was for Jim). But I REMEMBER sitting at my best friend's house talking about TV shows and we were talking about that gay pirate show we had both just watched at some point in the past. And she was going "oh yeah, did you hear they made a second season?" And I said "whhaaaat??". My first watch through of OFMD did not make me sick in the head. I was very normal and casual about it after just watching s1. So I started to attempt to recall what OFMD was even about. I could not remember Stedes name. I could not remember Ed's name. I could not remember Izzys name or the majority of the plot. But I was like "oh yeah! And that couple! Jim and Oluwande!" NEVER SAY IM NOT A TEALORANGES GIRLIE. (I also remembered Frenchies name. Probably because I find Joel Fry dishy.)

ABOUT OLUWANDE ACTUALLY: I personally don't know why we decided after Ed and Stede ran off to do their Inn Thing that Frenchie would be Captain? (This is nothing against our favorite peanut allergy having hottie.) It's just that during the Izzy Mutiny, the crew got together and decided that Oluwande would be the perfect leader??? I would mostly understand Zheng actually captaining the Revenge, but if she didn't want to for whatever reason, it just feels like it SHOULD go to Oluwande. ANYWAY.

Again and again Oluwande shows that he's not just a capable leader and good crew mate, but he's also a helpful guy who's kind and soft and funny. He cares deeply for Jim and wants them to be fed and comfortable often in s1. (I also talk more about TealOranges in my Jim post but just know I love them and we were robbed of Jim and Olu kissing while Jim was still in the beard and nose. That would have been so delicious.)

Someone posted on here somewhere at some point that they aren't as invested in Olu/Zheng because there was more telling than showing and I'm so sorry guys but I totally agree. I have nothing against Olu/Zheng (and I'm a closed quad Garlic Soup Truther) but nothing hits like TealOranges!!!!

I love that Olu is such a good friend to Stede over and over again! Especially when Ed fucked off the boat to go sit on an island with Calico Jack overnight and Olu wasn't allowed to go back into Frenchie and Wee John's room (because the sitting nook is for SITTING, Olu, COME ON) and so he goes to sleep on Stedes couch while Stede spies on Jack and Ed all night. Stede talked ALL NIGHT and Olu could have gotten up and found somewhere else to sleep but he still laid on the couch and gave Stede some fucking moral support during the break up.

i get clowning on the ofmd middle aged man kiss (i thought it was ok but i understood the putside fandom reception 😭) but how are people clowning on this this was award deserving acting the buildup the trembling the thing aziraphale did with his mouth that convinced me there was tongue involved the "I lo-" im going insane over here

I thought the OFMD kiss was okay too, I think it’s supposed to be awkward on purpose. It felt realistic. But I understand clowning on it because tbh it’s so awkward that I tend to politely look away 😂

But there’s absolutely no reason to clown on the GO kiss. The acting is fucking phenomenal. I already said this in a separate post, but the acting is SO GOOD that just from this image

People were able to gather that it was a desperate attempt at something, and/or a goodbye of sorts. I saw a theory that Aziraphale had lost his memory like Gabriel, and this was Crowley desperately trying to get him remember. A theory that Crowley was saying goodbye before sacrificing himself for Aziraphale. In general, the theories seemed to be that something bad happens that leads up to this moment. And that’s exactly what happened…and we were figuring that out just from that one still obscured by a word.

I just think that’s really cool. That it’s such an emotional scene that people were able to feel the right sort of vibes just from a still image with zero context.

And then obviously there’s the before and after, which are amazing and make me tear up. It’s such an emotional scene. It’s so, so good.

I think that a lot of people, when looking at kiss scenes, think they’re only good if they’re “sexy” kisses straight out of a romance. I think it could have something to do with many fans of shows involving M/M couples being OSA women (especially straight women, who unlike bi women can’t relate to the characters’ experience of SSA) looking for content to drool over and fetishise, and being annoyed when the content doesn’t allow them to do that. But this is a good scene. I don’t get awkward straight guys out of it at all…I get a sense of heartbreak and desperation, because that’s exactly what it is. It’s Crowley’s last attempt at changing Aziraphale’s mind.

IT WAS SOOO SWEET. well, in the start. and finally knowing and slowly seeing gabriel getting his memory back was rather scary but exciting. and in those memories, you could slowly tell how much he was falling in love with beelzebub AND ISNT THAT JUST SO SWEET. LIKE WHEN THEY HELD HANDS I WAS SCREECHINGGG IT WAS SO SO SO. it melted my heart, that the bigshots. literally the supreme leaders of both heaven and hell set aside their differences for the love of one another and its just so heartbreakingly sweet. I KEEP SAYING SWEET BUT THEY SO! ARE!!

AND yk what else is heartbreaking? but not sweet? THE INEFFABLE HUSBANDS THEMSELVES.

MY HEART WAS LITERALLY BEATING a few mins before the scene, i was like this is it this is it its finally the moment! omgomgogmgogm and with them finally ACTUALLY talking about their feelings for once HOW THEY ACTUALLY FELT (cough cough aziraphale cough) to one another I WAS SO SO SO READY TO BE ABSOLUTELT SOBBING IN JOY

well, i did sob. not in joy tho. in pure pain

when aziraphale got back with a smile on his face, when crowley's respond being the trigger, when aziraphale realized 'this isnt what crowley wants but theyre supposed to be in the same side if they want to be tgt', the CONFLICTING FEELING AZIRAPHALE STILL HAD EVEN AFTER WITNESSING GABRIEL AND BEELZEBUB BE AN ACTUAL THING??????

and the amount of pure raw emotions of betrayal in crowley's voice . IT JUST. IT JUST BROKE ME COMPLETELY.

i was on the ground malding, pulling my hair I COULD NOT.

and that final line, that final 'why can't you understand it?'

"You idiot. This could've been... us"

AND THEN THAT THAT KISS. THAT RUSHED KISS.

THAT THAT. IT JUST IT JUST COMPLETELY BROUGHT ME TO TEARS. COMPLETELY MADE ME SOBBED. its crowley's way of showing 'this couldve been us' it could've been passionate. but it was frustration, anger, betrayal, and a feeling of not wanting to let him go all in one kiss.

and what did aziraphale said, to utter shock of what just happened

"I forgive you."

THAT LINE FROM BACK THEN HAUNTED HIM STILL. CROWLEY DIDNT NEED HIS FORGIVENESS FOR HIS ACTIONS, FOR HIS FALLEN, FOR HIM BEING A DEMON. HE DOESNT NEED TO BE AN ANGEL AGAIN. HE NEEDS AZIRAPHALE, AS HE IS. TO BE WITH HIM.

but aziraphale still picked sides.

in the end he didnt pick 'us'.

and chose to let go of crowley, even if he was still deep down inside all he wanted was just to be with crowley (HECK HAVE YOU SEEN HOW HE LOOKS AT CROWLEY??AND THE THINGS HE SAY ABOUT HIM???)

back at it again with yet ANOTHER Thing That OFMD Does So Fucking Well, this time im thinking about how for all that this show has the "love at first sight" trope and even textually says that "love feels easy," it still takes what i like to call the "anti-soulmate" stance, or a rejection of an easy "happily ever after" romance.

you know what im talking about when i say "happily ever after" romance, right? romantic stories that act like there's a Perfect Person in the world for you and that once you guys are together it's smooth sailing for the rest of your lives, the end. stories where the drama is all in getting together, and once we get the dramatic kiss at the finale the curtains close and the credits roll and that's all, folks! they're together, now! everything is fine!

and like anyone who's ever been in a long-term relationship (which is uhhhh Not Me, but i've heard it said) will tell you that this is NOT how relationships work at all. long-term relationships, no matter how well-suited the match, take a LOT of work.

and this is SO CLEAR with stede and ed. all of season one showed us the many, many ways that they fit together so easily. they have the same crazy "thinking outside of the box" plotting approach, they both have a penchant for drama and showmanship, they have similar senses of humor, they both enjoy fine fabric and good food and other fancy things. ed is the first person in stede's life to enjoy stede's presence so openly and honestly, and stede is the first person in ed's life to not balk at the less "blackbeard" side of him. the more they learn about each other the more they appreciate each other.

but. but. IT'S NOT ENOUGH!!!!

stede and ed got to the dramatic kiss. they got to the confession of mutual romantic interest and the "now they're together!!" part. in many love stories, that's where the credits start to roll!!

but then, very quickly, it all falls to shit.

yes, there are a LOT of external forces that drive ed and stede apart in episode 9 and 10, but the real thing that causes stede to run back to his wife and kids in a panic and causes ed to retreat back into blackbeard is the fact that these two fucking idiots never just TALK TO EACH OTHER

"communication is the key to any successful relationship" is something people say All The Time, but the thing with that phrase is that it doesn't really convey how fucking HARD it is to communicate. because communicating isn't just about talking to your partner, it's about expressing your desires, your weaknesses, your insecurities. it's being incredibly vulnerable and it takes a lot of practice and a lot of constant effort.

it is SO much easier to try and slowly distance yourself from someone because you don't want to come off as clingy (ed at the beginning of e7). it is SO much easier to come up with bullshit reasons to hang out instead of just saying "i want to spend time with you" because that's admitting how much you care about this person (stede with the treasure hunt). it is SO much easier to bite your tongue when something makes you upset because you don't want to make a fuss (stede when ed blew up his chest of drawers). it is SO much easier to choose your shitty ex over your new crush without actually explaining to your crush that it's not about him, it's about how you feel responsible for the shitty things your shitty ex just did (ed leaving the Revenge with jack). and it is SO SO SO much easier to never actually admit to your new friend, your co-captain, and the love of your life that you were never going to be good at "teaching him the ways of an aristocrat" because you've never actually fit in back in your old life, that you've never had a real friend before him, that you've been ridiculed your whole life for being yourself, because what if your new friend/co-captain/love of your life realizes just how pathetic you are?

for ed and stede to get their happily ever after, they of course have to deal with the narrative obstacles the show is throwing at them (izzy, the british, whatever else is coming for us in season 2) but more importantly they have to learn how to communicate directly, so they both understand what the other is saying. ed needs to know about stede's insecurities and stede needs to trust ed to choose what ed wants and understand that he's not "corrupting" or "defiling" anything when ed says he wants to stop being blackbeard. ofmd shows us that ed and stede would be an incredible couple, but even if the feelings of love are easy, the work that goes into having a successful relationship isn't.

originally, I started this on Quotev where I’m still around, but everybody left so here I am to be Silly. I started off just hating John walker So much when tfatws came out that I made a whole account, and it extended out to the other marvel shows that came around the same time (Loki and wandavision and Hawkeye). I got in a whole bunch of fun arguments and it was a blast. I too became the biggest Sam Wilson fan account on Quotev alongside my hate for John walker.

i am so sad s2 is over. and i honestly feel underwhelmed about the season as a whole. i don't want to! i think david jenkins did everything he possibly could with the run time he was given, and the resources he was allotted. i might be looking at it with rose tinted glasses but i really think that this is not the fault of the showrunners, but the fault of the streaming service the show is on. even though this show is driving in so much traffic, and it has been since s1 aired, they were given a shorter season with less resources this time around. and i think the showrunners did an AMAZING job of squeezing everything they could into 8 30 min episodes! im genuinely impressed by what they did with it! but it makes me feel rotten - even thinking back to the renewal hell this show went through, max couldn't even be fucked to make a big deal out of renewing it during pride month, but still made us wait until then to find out if we'd get more. you could feel djenks anxiety about renewal in interviews and tweets he made until it actually got renewed - they were not giving it to him easy.

recently jenkins retweeted a photo of an article that said ofmd was pulling better interest/engagement numbers than fucking succession! (it was unsourced, just to say that, but i would not be surprised if that was genuine fact). that is fucking insane for a queer show with a cult following. it is so imperative that we shove it down max's throats that we want renewal, and that we love this show. i am never the type to engage with promotional corporate social media, but genuinely i feel like this fanbase needs to tweet and email and fucking facebook message max to show that interest in this show is exponential. because s1 had ridiculous support and it got us s2, but did not give season 2 the love and resources it deserved.
