I'm realizing a lot of my favorite podcasts just boil down to "yay for exhaustive thoughful and responsible reporting"

the violence in bottoms (2023) is so satisfying in a way i don't really know how to put into words. somewhere between the violence against women that movies sometimes shy away from too much but also Lean Into a little too much (spectrum of either not depicting realistic violence/harassment due to discomfort with it or the "you can't hit her she's a girl!" concept vs gratuitous sensationalized violence). like it's that "boys will be boys" kind of roughhousing that girls are excluded from if the narrative frames them as too delicate / feminine / untouchable. and i see them beating the shit out of each other and it feels Good. they're not untouchable dolls nor are they objects to project malice and gratuitous violence onto! it's not even fully about the empowerment or seeing girls be able to fight back (which does feel amazing in its own right and the movie does a great job of delivering it) like even seeing like, idk black widow beat up a bunch of guys in a marvel movie doesn't feel the same as how bottoms does it. it feels unpolished and grounded and realistic and satisfying. #girlswillbegirls

i cannot understate how much i loved psycholonials. for just. so many reasons. i love when stories reward you for paying attention and understanding their themes. when Z explicitly referred to the sword of damocles at the end i screamed because even though it obviously made so much sense because that IS in large part what its about i couldnt shake the feeling until that moment that maybe i was just like. out of the loop and projecting the stuff *i* know about onto it.

i think the stuff it has to say about power and sensationalism and the relationship between the author, audience, and fiction is . really REALLY good and extremely potent. even if i still cant exactly put my feelings about it into words in a way that is coherent or makes me sound smart yet. i think the stuff it has to say about gender and related social systems was REALLY EXTREMELY good . it obviously wasnt the main focus but i found it genuinely compelling and it contributes to the whole EXTREMELY well. not to drag up old shit again but . holy fuck does hussie have some genuinely great and interesting things to say about gender. iykwim.

hussie remains a MASTER of her craft and reading this only justified that belief further. i know im like genetically predisposed to deeply enjoying all this but . fuck she just hit every fucking beat man!!! the character writing was fucking amazing. no notes. the music was also stellar clark powell knocks it out of the fucking park once again. the fucking flare remix scared the SHIT out of me though god that was so cool. the epilogue(i guess? i dont know what else to call it) almost had me in tears. i knew finishing the game that there was going to be . some kinda twist in trying to redo the ending but. good lord. that was extremely well done. hi zhen i love you zhen.

Im going to be so honest, I do not care about Emily Armstrong's allegations. Theres barely any proof and its being way over sensationalized. If you dig deep enough Im sure you could find something shady about any musician or even just celebrity for that matter. Plus this is all from years ago, people can change a lot. The band has spent lots of time with her so Im sure that she isnt the monster shes being made out to be. I wouldnt even be surprised if this all was brought to light and blown up by some misogynistic assholes that are just mad she isnt Chester. But yeah I actually see it ending with the fucking United Nations getting involved and Juu getting a life sentence— like the more the case is talked the more some people start to step up and contact the court by witness protection, and probably if Juu's 'buddies' in the police end threatened as in, "you made corruption and if you dont testify against him if actual proof is found you all are going to jail too" and they would fold because your boss hating you isnt as worse as going to jail and get their careers and names fully ruined

And the moment it finally goes into courth about Tokyo Tower thing in which Juu purposefully hide information and covered up a crime?? *Things are going to super shit*, and if the exact kind of "discipline" goes discussed yeah Juu is losing a lost of support too because theres a difference between "supporting to smack your kid sometimes" and "forcing teen into mock suicide". Like I wouldn't be surprised if a revision and evaluation of all police officers in japan happened as in "how the fuck did we missed this corruption for so many years?" so yeah juu's ass is going to super jail for human right violations and system corruption

if anons going to do it, they have to be extremely careful with how they present things. this isnt just some petty internet drama. its serious, with real victims involved. and if its not handled properly, it could end up causing more harm than good. the focus absolutely has to be on accountability. not personal attacks or sensationalism. that means making sure everything is backed up with evidence, clearly explaining the context, and being mindful of how they frame things so it doesnt turn into a harassment campaign.

It isnt Robron related but I just saw that Marlon planted drugs on Dylan to keep him and April apart, and now Dylan has taken an overdose and might die.

Of course this will lead to April finding out and never forgiving Marlon, and driving her even further away, and it feels like they are just doing this to add on more misery just because. I just dont understand why everything has to be grey and pessimistic all the goddam time, and why it has to be stretched out foooooreveeeever.

I mean I wouldn't say this part of it has been stretched out forever yet. Not that it won't go in that direction. I think their biggest problem with holding people's attention for longer storylines is the repetitive nature of the daily episodes. Either they just have the same scenes over and over again (see Steph) or they keep feeling like they have to have major events every time the story is on, which might be the way this will go and is also how they seemed to extend the Tom story. I don't think either works.

Like I feel like there could be plenty of drama in Marlon just trying to properly connect with April again and listen to her without letting her control everything. I think there could be something to him trying to help her help Dylan. And you could still have Dylan struggling and overdosing and have that drama without it being Marlon that pushed him towards that. I just think they often go too far trying to sensationalize things when sometimes just the actual story would work just fine.

my biggest confession take ever is that a lot of systems in (or were in) the mcyt fandom during the pandemic were being affected by mass hysteria or something like it

the mcyt community during the pandemic was made up of teens. teens are in their formative years in terms of identity and part of forming that identity is socialization. also a lot of teens (esp autistic ones) can feel like they are "multiple people" due to the facades they are forming as they gain/lean into emotional complexity. now think. there's a bunch of teens who cant socialize like they should (which is with others in person). they also have the identity issues that come from being a teen twice over. now imagine that they have access to the internet which has begun to sensationalize being plural

tumblr and tumblr user-heavy discords are bad at not falling into the "everyone is always what they say they are. NO MATTER WHAT." thing. its an okay mindset in moderation but as with any echo chamber it can become extreme. at which point people start feeding into identity issues (and also the disorders someone can have that looks like being a system) that leads into said person becoming worse. it can also lead to someone feeling trapped in the label of being plural which also leads to becoming worse

even though i use system/plurality here im mostly talking about medical/trauma-related plurality. but i know people who used to think they were non-traumagenic systems that were actually singlets. this is as good a time as any to point out that this entire post is not entirely theoretical. i have talked to many systems, many thought-they-were-systems, and many singlets (both within and out of the mcyt fandom). i have considered their experiences in mind when i thought about this topic

Thoughts on Enjoying Minecraft (and how many ways to play minecraft there are)

was watching a video on how minecraft is less of a game and more of a platform, one that you can enjoy in so many different ways. and yknow what? I'm just thinking about how "mods are better" completely ignores that yes, minecraft is a game that is primarily enjoyed by modifying it to your liking.

and honestly? of course the base vanilla experience isnt going to be interesting for people who have known and played the game for years. putting your own spin on it IS what makes it interesting and guess who has to keep the game relevant and MAINTAIN the code in it? to not only add a few new inspiring playthings, but to add more capabilities to datapacks, commands, etc? mojang. so i find it quite impressive that they manage to keep the game afloat, keep the game RUNNING even with minimal bugs, AND keep adding features. I honestly think a lot of people nowadays are just like, since they've seen so many people sensationalize the vanilla survival experience, they think to themselves that the only way for them to play minecraft is that experience. that ONE experience. but is that really fair for a game that isnt DESIGNED around a single experience, to say "wow, mojang sure sucks at designing for one of the many experiences they realistically are designing for"

i think if they really wanted to, they could just abandon modders, mapmakers, and different playstyles, and focus all their efforts on just adding content to survival. but they wont

and modders may add the content YOU like more, and thats good. It doesn't make them inherently better than mojang, they're just… people pursuing what the game is a good foundation for: making the game what they want it to be. if people cant agree on what they want minecraft to be, and make vastly different modded experiences, then minecraft is succeeding in being minecraft. In a sense, I think some modders are the people who may be most content, experiencing ... happiness, not complaining all the time that one of many experiences isnt to their taste. they just mold the game to be one they like

not to say thats what all modders are like, though. i know plenty who are burnt out of the game. but then theres also a whole thing to be said about the passion for creating stuff FOR minecraft being another avenue of enjoying the game. i enjoy minecraft, but i enjoy thinking about it more than playing it sometimes. thats also fair

In short, Maybe try mixing up how you play minecraft, if you don't enjoy it. Maybe, accept that the pure vanilla experience isn't one that you'll really care for all the time. That's okay. Maybe you want to modify some recipes, maybe you want to overhaul progression and add more bosses. That's cool too! Theres just. a lot of cautious design around the people making the foundation that you do all of this on top of. They don't really want to make the vanilla game go in any particular one of those directions that YOU could take it more than others. its an all rounder of a game, with an emphasis on player choice. You make the content, you make the goals. Maybe that isnt your thing. Maybe go play a modpack where the goals HAVE been made for you by other players.

Here we are, a year later. Heart still numb but not as calloused. I've shaved away a few layers of dead skin thankfully- it was making me rough around the edges and not easy to be loved. It hurt really badly and god was I embarrassed and ashamed of all the built up bull shit I kept on me at all times. I never wanted to peel like this but the thing about skin is that it's going to fall off anyway. I'm sad because everytime it felt like I was finally feeling and getting used to sensationalism and growing excited around the idea that I could actually finally feel something something happens that throws me back into that same drawn out senseless self that hates and hates and hates.

I'm a heart centered person I realize and so if I'm not moving through and flowing my energy up and out through my heart I'm not okay like my well being is not okay and everything hurts. I lost my matriarch this month and I'm so sad that she's gone. Its always gotta be your favs huh lol dfjkalsjfl but hey not my first rodeo i'm a seasoned grief cowboy and I've been here before so I'm recognizing the signs like when I'm feeling sad or angry about something that tells me that love isnt real actually but I KNOW that's not true cause wow am I reminded of love everywhere around me.
