thinking about how the (greek) big three swore to never sire any more demigod children because those children are just too powerful (dangerous) and also thinking about how the characters that, arguably, seem to have the greatest proclivity for cruelty in the name of justice or vengeance are also the (greek) big three children... there's something there, a connection to be made I'm sure of it
#and its not just cruelty...#its like this spiraling into... darkness? power?#for percy and nico at least#thalia we dont get to see as much and I need to reread ttc#but like... she's SO tempted by power#its like she has to actively fight against those base instincts to rule (like her father)#when she chooses the hunters#she removes her role (her power her agency) in the great prophecy#and idk I feel like there's subtext there that she's worried what she would have done had she been the prophecy child#but sincerely there's something about greek big three kids thats off kilter#and that aspect only gets more pronounced as time goes on and they get older#like not only are they scarily powerful#but their mental states are just... messy#almost like in comparison to other demigods#they're a little more god a little less mortal if that makes sense#and they have to fight to maintain that mortality (their humanity)

listen there really was just something about how in the book, snow’s 3-page descent from hesitant lover boy to deluded mfer happens entirely in his mind. lucy gray gives him no indication whatsoever that she suspects him, that she’s going to leave or betray him. he’s just sitting quietly in the cabin waiting for her to return when that seed of calculated suspicion, which he has needed to survive the capitol, takes a hold of him and chokes the life out of any goodness left inside him. it really drives home your terror as a reader that “oh my god did he kill her? did she escape? what happened to her? why would he even think that?” in a way that when the movie had to adjust for visualization it lost some of that holy shit this guy has lost it emphasis.
#seeing some discourse and im not saying lucy grey didnt know#im saying she never dropped the kind of hints that she knew like she did in the movie#or if she did snow isnt worried about them until he very suddenly is consumed by them#snow is not concerned about whether or not she believed him. of course she did! hes snow!#but then shes gone…. for a while……#and its the sudden immediate drastic unravelling that comes across so clearly in the book#that i knew wouldn’t translate to screen yet still cant help but miss#the hunger games#coriolanus snow#tbosas#lucy gray baird#not a crime or anything just a note that i cannot stop thinking about#the ballad of songbirds and snakes#this is all from memory of reading it quite a while ago. so maybe 3 pages is an exaggeration#but i remember it happening VERY quickly and without much external cause#like we as the reader have no indication as to whether shes nearby or not.#snow has no idea either. he just SUSPECTS. and his suspicion breeds the hatred that has been bubbling inside him all this time#he hates how she undoes him. he hates that he WOULD run away with her if shed let him keep his secrets#and he HATES more than anything that she makes him WANT to tell his secrets#he wants to be vulnerable and reveal the ugly nasty parts about himself and still be loved#but he does not let himself and it is everyone’s downfall#he chooses cruelty bc it is easy and familiar and makes him feel more powerful than the vulnerable give and take that real love requires

something that makes shi quingxuan's corrupted ascension to godhood more painful is that sqx was a good god.
beloved by their followers, kind, charitable, and was always trying to do good things. sqx was a genuinely good person, who stuck up for xie lian, and didn't automatically assume the worsts of hua cheng despite what other heavenly officials said.
shi qingxuan being a much better god than many of the others who earned or "deserved" their spots, makes their fate sadder to me
#shi qingxuan#wind master#heaven official's blessing#tian guan ci fu#tgcf#shi wudu#reverend of empty words#he xuan#tgcf spoilers#sqx being a good god still doesn't mean that i think hx deserved what happened to him#its just that sqx deserved to be a god more than others even though they weren't supposed to be#but anyway fairness and fate and the cruelty of the world vs a kind soul who had no say in the hands they were dealt

Okay so, given the common fanon of Shen Jiu being a bastard child of the Qiu family and the idea of Shen Yuan's siblings being alternate versions of PIDW charecters, consider this idea; Shen Yuans siblings as alternative versions of Qiu Jianluo, Yue Qingyuan and Qiu Haitang. Qiu Haitang comes onto the scene at Jinlan city, and Shen Yuan is struck with the absolute horror of seeing his sisters face for the first time in years... accusing him of murder.
#svsss#svsss au#scum villian self saving system#qiu jianluo#qiu haitang#shen yuan#yue qingyuan#i have like a lot of opinions on this#like. there are themes with qiu haitang of both willing ignorance but also of being manipulated#that could really work with a modern rich person au#but its really hard to pin down whatthe alternate qiu jianluo would be like#like. i could make him have the exact same issues (willing cruelty and sadism) but then that feels like saying he was doomed to be evil#when in reality nurture is clearly at play here and shen yuan ended up okay#but then rich ppl often do end up cruel and capricious and class and status is definitely why original qiu jianluo was like that#idk maybe hes a Dick but like a modern subdued one. like. an asshole to waiters but would be fucked up abt whippiing ppl#alternate yue qingyuan is adopted in this context#also. i just think watching an alternative version kf his brother beat the shit out of an alternative version of him would fuck him up#for shen yuan i mean

A few interesting parallels in the SoC duology that I don’t think I’ve seen anyone talk about yet
(Analysis/discussion of these parallels/quotes may come later if anyone's interested)
“These creatures were made to be weapons” - Jarl Brum on Grisha, Six of Crows chapter 35
“He looked like what he truly was: a weapon” - Jesper Fahey on the Khergud, Crooked Kingdom chapter 36
“Welcome to the Hellshow” - Kaz to Nina, Six of Crows chapter 6
“Welcome to the Ice Court, Nina Zenik” - Matthias to Nina, Six of Crows chapter 34
“Is this a play?” - Alys Van Eck “Yes love, and you’re the star” - Jesper Fahey, Crooked Kingdom chapter 8 when Alys is taken captive
“What was this but a play Kaz had staged, with that poor sucker Kuwei as the star?” - Jesper Fahey on the auction plan, Crooked Kingdom chapter 36
“he looked like a priest come to preach to group of circus performers” - Inej on Kaz’s appearance in comparison to the rest of the Barrel, Six of Crows chapter 2
“started to preach” - Inej on Kaz leading a coup against Per Haskell, Crooked Kingdom chapter 27
“Whoever he had become, Matthias was not going to shoot someone unarmed. He'd not yet sunk so far” - Matthias Helvar, Six of Crows chapter 29
“I am unarmed” - Matthias Helvar, Crooked Kingdom chapter 38
"I didn't even know the rules of Makker's Wheel" - Jesper Fahey on his first night gambling in the Barrel, Six of Crows chapter ()
"He knew his guns better than he knew the rules of Makker's Wheel" - Jesper Fahey on the concept of aim and its relationship to his life and his zowa/Grisha abilities, Crooked Kingdom chapter 36
“a tiny voice inside him said he should offer to take the drug as well […] maybe he could have helped to draw the parem out of Nina’s system and set her free. But that was a hero’s voice and Jesper had long since stopped thinking he had the makings of a hero” - Jesper Fahey, Six of Crows chapter 44
“Matthias gave you the remaining parem, didn’t he?” “So?” “[…] I can’t let my father down again. I need the parem as a security measure” “No” “Why the hell not?” - Jesper and Kaz in discussion about the auction plan, Crooked Kingdom chapter 30
I'll probably be back to add more, feel free to add your own as well
#prepared to cry every time the unarmed quotes come up omg#and i love parallels we all know that but also#another thing from chapter 36 that we do not talk enough about#'it's not a gift it's a curse' but when it came down to it Jesper's life had been full of blessings#His father his mother Inej Nina Matthias leading them across the muddy canal#Kaz even Kaz#with all his cruelties and failings had given him a home and a family in the dregs when Ketterdam might have swallowed him whole#and wylan#wylan who had understood before Jepser ever had that the power inside him might be a blessing too#like this quote????????#it's so underrated?????????????#in fact stay tuned because now that I'm thinking about it it's probably about to get its own post#six of crows#crooked kingdom#grishaverse#jesper fahey#leigh bardugo#kaz brekker#inej ghafa#wylan van eck#nina zenik#matthias helvar#soc meta#six of crows analysis#kanej#wesper#helnik#this has been in my drafts for months and months and months literally just because i couldn't be bothered to find the chapter references lo

I always forget how good the actor is for Rogers bc obviously Woodes Rogers is not occupying as much brain space as other black sails characters but then ill be watching the show especially the last season and he's stealing scenes left and right like damn. this guy is good.
#the way we talk abt how silver was a career defining role for luke arnold i think luke roberts is also giving that#he is so terrifying & so human#i love that his fighting style is so vane coded as opposed to flint coded. brutal & quick & animalistic. he is GIVING physical performance#& his griefrage widower era is so. wowie. mr roberts your limp hair and dead eyes and capacity to project inhuman cruelty is award worthy#any scene hes in with madi is eveything bc she is giving dignity and fortitude even dirty & in chains meanwhile he comes off as some cross#between a reanimated corpse and a feral animal that just bit its way through it's leash#like okay! this is the guy civilisation sends to tame nassau! hes not even tame himself. he's their rabid dog.#black sails#big black sails rewatch !

it would be really funny if mephone's intent with knife was that he was gonna be the type of "bully" character who gave people wedgies and shoved people in lockers and that was it, but then something went horribly awry and the bit went too far and now knife is concocting all of these mechanisms and schemes for the sole purpose of torturing and killing people in the most painful way possible because he thinks it's funny and is constantly being tormented by the uncontrollable urge to cause immense amounts of violence even when he tries to stop doing that in the future. "we could have been anything but you made us broken" mephone did not tell you to put marshmallow in the brazen bull. you did that of your own volition.
#inanimate insanity#ii spoilers#sorry im just. im obsessed with how terrible knife is in the remaster#its interesting because being shown the FULL extent of his unyielding cruelty makes his arc later in the show even more interesting#especially since they're emphasizing that the other contestants are slowly beginning to fear and hate him. UNDERSTANDABLY.#one thing in particular it recontextualizes is his conversation with balloon in s2e7#where he talks about how even if they try to change the rest of the s1 cast is never going to forget about or forgive them for what they di#and knowing that the rest of the s1 cast actively DISLIKED AND FEARED HIM. ohhhhh. oughhhhh knife. my guy.#not to toot my own horn but. in my fic. when knife says that he deserves to have died and doesn't deserve another chance at life#compared to bow whose worst crime was being kind of annoying and yet suffered the same fate as him#god. GOD.#i don't know how Grim theyre willing to go with s4 considering how s2's unrelenting Misery began to drain them emotionally but#adam. brian. mario and luigi. im begging you. get a LITTLE bit insane with it. for me.

Can we talk about how no one is happier in Inanimate Insanity until they leave the show? Marshmallow, Lightbulb, Balloon, Taco, Microphone, now even Mepad.
It's brought up again and again. Even by OJ that the show changes you. That you can't better yourself until you get away from it.
The show is this cycle of anger, and cruelness from a host that uses it as a distraction from his past. Mephone is given so many chances to change. Even Mepad, who sticks by him because this is supposed to be the freedom from Cob's Mephone saved him from- is hardly even acknowledged by Mephone.
The contestants even try to be a little kinder towards Mephone because they know his past now- yet Mephone just returns it with more cruelty. Because that's the thing about Mephone he never once tries to change.
Never once tries to actually befriend the characters who try with him.
He's not without chances.
I believe that the only way Mephone can free himself from his own cruelty is with the end of his show. No more seasons, no more spin-offs. All this show is, is a distraction. Something to keep him as far away from his past as possible.
Yet can he do that?
He's driven away every single person that's ever tried with him. His show is the only thing he has control over. The only thing he's ever known since running away.
#im just rambling#lalallalaaaa#rambling#talking#inanimate insanity#im having a hard time acknowledging that season 3 exists bc its so weird that hes able to create a strong bond with floory#and even kind of tries to befriend bot!!#but then immedietly goes back to the season 2 cruelty he just randomly lost for an entire season 😅#mephone#mephone4

something bad did indeed happen to that man. spent abt 25 minutes trying to find a better picture of that one (1) offical piece with his eyes open that wasnt compressed or tiny
#library of ruina#yan library of ruina#getting comfortable doodling some objects and mannequin shapes for very obvious reasons. i read the keypage story and now it has a grip on#my brain. wanting to go ahead and plan it out and then draw the mangled memory and nightmare that replays behind the eyelids in the darknes#it was cool to see the reason confirmed from my speculation. twas indeed another reason of blocking out present pain with closing of eyes#considering they made angela have a plot important reason for doing so it would only make sense for another to have a reason for it as well#well. after having a prominent part inside the thumb/index story line. its just going to be yapping about yan now i think#let me add a spoiler tag i suppose? vauge but just incase i dont want to be an asshole. even if most already have played rhe game#library of ruina spoilers#lor spoilers#i really liked the typewritter effect over the voice after distortion. especially so when the effect finishes before the actual garbled voi#does. it makes it feel as if it were being read out after it being written down rather than of own words or volition. along with the text#upon the screen during the fight being just prescripts rather than anything relating to the man himself like the other instances with such#text had been. paired w the name of distorted yan being untranslated to keep the intent of the name being unreadable or not understandable#more into the idea of stripping away of the self or any sense of a self. not personal and not even him anymore. the following of a goal for#the goal for it is given and there isnt any hope of having the ability to not do such a thing. people yearn for a reason and something to d#and for it to be given to them to not hold responsibility nor have to do their own choices anymore. once a crushing weight weighs down#inside the face of an absolute cruelty that is perpetuated and that crushed the dreams or even desires having them be but nothing how can#one move on? it was really nice to see at the end of the fight. its easier to just say such things than to actually do them. even if the ac#ions dont even feel as if they are ones own or that there isnt any say in the matter having to endure all the pain for seemingly nothing it#still is pain. that feeling inside is still real. it still happened. regardless of the circumstances that brought them about#the thumb/index or just fingers seem to be an exaggerated to the extreme showcase of how the colletivist mindset in an unhealthy manner#could be exhibited. the thumb with its hierarchy and absoluteness and the demand for respect along with its strict layers of showing who is#below and who is above. the ability to have power over those underneath . the participation inside of it and the already brought up yearnin#to be apart of a group and to have a title and position inside of a group and of power and even a desire like from pete to join one iirc#the index being of the cruel perpetuating cycle of pain people inflict upon one another a behavior beaten and upkept by the systems as they#drift and desire to live. which causes them to partcipate in that cycle out of necessity. cruel acts upon another in order to live and seei#a need to go ahead and do such things for if they dont they die and another will just do the same to them. social sciences talk and rolands#talks abt how the city opperates reinforce that fact. the index and prescripts are really just a show inside that extreme manner and in a#more literal sense of that. it was really cool to read it..

I'm too tired to gather my thoughts cohesively on this but.
The Anakt Garden bears a lot of resemblance to the Garden of Eden, right? The landscape is an ideal nature paradise and the humans kept within it are expected to live in blissful ignorance and obedience. It's not far-fetched to say that a lot of religious inspiration was taken when making the Anakt Garden considering the prevalence of "gods" and worship in the series. What's more, there is apparently a whole subject in the Anakt Garden dedicated to religion.
Through this Garden it's almost as if the aliens are attempting to recreate or rewrite the genesis of mankind now that they have established themselves as beings of power. The aliens tend to "play god", creating artificial humans and modifying existing ones in order to suit their needs.

In past official arts, Sua and Ivan (two top students of Anakt Garden who know more about the truth of the system than they let on) have been depicted with apples. The same fruit that symbolizes disobedience and forbidden knowledge.
#alnst#alien stage#alien stage ivan#alien stage sua#i think a lot about how mizi lived blissfully ignorant of suffering and the truth#while sua who knew the true extent of alien cruelty simply lived alongside mizi and kept her knowledge secret in order to maintain a facade#i think about all the knowledge ivan has at his disposal. how hes able to do things and access places hes not supposed to#they're both completely aware of what had to happen and offered themselves in order to save their beloved from that fate#the curse of knowledge#its hilarious how im drawing these conclusions from completely unrelated official arts just HEAR ME OUT#para.musing

What are asgore and spades favorite colors
#deltarune#asks#drawings#asgore#spade#king of spades#spade king#asgore dreemurr#spadesgore#technically#king spade#no one asked but i want to elaborate#asgore describes colours in pairs not just because it might be the only colour theory he knows#but because thats also how he generally just sees. people and their traits#as if everything needs something to compliment#hence why he feels so out of place and useless to himself when hes not married/in a relationship#the way he describes yellow and purple are a good way to describe him and toriel in undertale#royal colours that are tied to hope but they only shine when theyre constracted against the grim tragedy that shaped them#with blue and orange it kind of describes sans and papyrus especially with how their comedic timing works#like when youre alone with sans in mtt resort the tone is a LOT more somber - colder#but when papyrus is by himself hes all jumpy and shit and he hardly seems as down to earth as he does with sans around#and red and green imo are the most important in analysing asgore specifically bc his weapon is red#but his shirt colour in post pacifist and deltarune is pink - literally a softer version of the cruelty we KNOW hes capable of#he describes it as just sort of -fitting- with the greenery he surrounds himself with and i think that mostly has to do with what he WANTS#all the plants and the greenery are ALIVE but almost toxic. meanwhile someone else most prominantly associated with red is rudy#the guys whole gimmick is having a bright red nose#its like asgore surrounds himself with the colour that would compliment the person he wants#or literally wearing their colours a la him and toriel having the same shade of blue on in undertale#and spade? hes just emo. he likes black because its a lack of colour - a lack of light#the reason he works as a good parallel to asgore in this sense is because he breaks asgores dychotamy and forces his own

The dichotomy between tenderness and torture Bell would've received during the MK-ULTRA process is something that is very special to me. Tenderness in the wound care they would have needed to receive in order to keep them from dying from the bullet wound they got on the Trabzon Airfield and Torture from all the physical and mental pain that was inflicted on them with the express goal of grinding their entire being to a stub in order to be rebuilt in Adler's image.
#Just. After a session of simaltaneous Psychic driving and electric depatterning imagine Adler gently taking off the electrodes#and wiping away the grime sweat and blood before moving to repack Bell's gunshot wound#the gentleness and patience in his hands completely at odds to the violence they were inflicting on Bell just an hour ago#Bell trembling as much as possible in the chair while restrained as Adler reaches towards them to check their IV only to be confused when#the hands don't bring violence. They might even bring something that makes Bell feel better.#It's enough to break anyone after awhile.#And as much as its of practical necessity it's also deliberate mindfuckery#Even the moments of gentleness are a deliberate calculated cruelty#Bell cod#Russell Adler#This is adbell if you want it to be idc#bocw#cod cw#cod cold war#black ops cold war#black ops cw#call of duty black ops cold war

Thinking a lot about how the Sith were once an actual people with its own society, culture, and practices and now the whole species is gone and their legacy has degenerated into a two man band abuser dynamic cult. The Sith were a massive empire of its people and then thousands of years later they're two people with no ties to Sith heritage hiding away in the shadows. The Baneite philosophy removes that societal aspect of the Sith and centers it wholly on the purity of the Dark Side, power and control above all else.
#sith#sith pureblood#swtor#star wars legends#the sith empire's interesting to me as like a macro-societal take on dark side corruption#like for all their cruelty and evil at some point they were a pretty banal empire and then it just kept degrading into the Order#for every Marr that wanted to run things like a normal empire there was a Vitiate or a Jadus making everything a death cult#Until one day Bane felt the others werent Sithing hard enough and wiped everything out#idk its kinda sad to think about

The thing about Hetalia is just like I think it’s a bad thing to put in kids brains. Like the base concept of having all these countries personified as likable cute anime boys who play around with one another and tell jokes and whatnot is just like…. A really evil way to conceptualize this stuff. Idk if it’s just because I’m thinking about my own middle school anime fandom experience but it has to still mostly appeal to kids right. Call me that one friend who’s too woke but I don’t like it. Like that atrocities sanctioned by the governments of these countries are interpreted as quirky character flaws or something. Nothing matters it’s all jokes but it’s also a vehicle for the really obvious biases of the creators. That’s how you get Hetalia Korea being tsundere for Japan
#Korea is just like the final form of everything conceptually dangerous about the series I think right#like the flattening of real and very recent histories of horrific cruelty and oppression get filtered through its comedy anime lens to#become like a cute joke. haha he says he hates Japan for sommmme silly reason
