THE OTHER MINYARD

The Foxes' game night was in full swing, the living room of the Columbia house a chaotic mess of empty beer bottles, scattered cards, and half-eaten pizza. Laughter and arguments filled the air, the usual blend of camaraderie and competitive tension. Andrew sat on the counter, a cigarette dangling from his fingers, watching with detached amusement as Kevin scowled at his cards and Nicky dramatically lamented his losing streak.  

And then there was Seth.  

Seth, who had been drinking more than usual, who had been sneering all night, who had been making comments.  

At first, it had been the usual garbage—muttered slurs under his breath, snide remarks about Matt and Dan’s relationship, something crude about Allison’s past. The Foxes had ignored him, rolling their eyes or shooting him irritated looks. Andrew had considered shutting him up himself, but he was feeling lazy tonight. Let the idiot dig his own grave.  

Then Seth made the mistake of opening his mouth about Neil.  

“—like, what the fuck even is that?” Seth slurred, gesturing vaguely toward where Neil was sitting, tucked against Andrew’s side like it was second nature. “Dude gets passed around like a fucking—"  

Andrew didn’t move. He didn’t have to.  

Because Aaron spoke.  

“Enough.”  

A single word, sharp as a blade.  

The room went still.  

Andrew’s cigarette paused halfway to his lips. His eyes flicked to his twin.  

Aaron was sitting forward in his chair, his expression eerily blank. The tilt of his head, the stillness in his posture—it was Andrew’s stillness. The only difference was the clothes. The Foxes had seen the twins side by side before, knew they were identical, but they had never seen this.  

This wasn’t Aaron imitating Andrew.  

This was Aaron.  

Seth blinked, his drunken bravado faltering. “The hell’s your problem?”  

Aaron smiled.  

It wasn’t a nice smile.  

It was the smile Andrew gave right before he put a knife in someone’s ribs.  

“Good boy,” Aaron said, voice low, controlled.  

Andrew exhaled smoke, intrigued despite himself.  

Aaron stood, slow and deliberate, and Seth instinctively leaned back in his seat. Aaron stepped closer, his movements unhurried, predatory. He bent down, fingertips ghosting over Seth’s neck.  

“Did you know you have an artery here?” Aaron mused, voice light, almost conversational. “Nick it, and in five seconds, you go bye-bye.” His finger trailed up to Seth’s Adam’s apple. “And this fragile little thing… the damage it can cause when cut or burst… fascinating, no?”  

Seth’s throat bobbed. His face had gone pale.  

Andrew watched, cigarette forgotten.  

Aaron’s hand curled around Seth’s throat, not squeezing—just resting there, a promise. “The human body is so very fragile,” Aaron continued, almost wistful. “Especially when it comes to substances. Did you know when you mix alcohol and pain medication, a funny little deadly reaction occurs?”  

Matt shifted uncomfortably. Nicky’s mouth was slightly open. Kevin looked like he was reevaluating every life choice that had led him here.  

Andrew was fascinated.  

Aaron’s grip tightened, just a fraction. “The first thing to do to a cadaver is remove the organs,” he said, tilting his head. “And that’s the fun part, no? Everyone looks the same without skin.”  

Neil, beside Andrew, let out a quiet, amused breath.  

Aaron leaned in, his voice dropping to a whisper. “There’s nothing easier than faking a heart attack.” He smiled again, all teeth. “I think you’ve forgotten your place, Seth.”  

Seth wasn’t breathing.  

“Andrew fights because he needs to,” Aaron said, finally releasing him. “I do it because it fascinates me.” He straightened, brushing imaginary dust off his sleeves. “Morals are a social construct, after all.”  

And god.  

Those two words wrecked the Foxes.  

Dan’s fingers were clenched around her beer bottle. Allison’s lips were parted in shock. Nicky looked like he was about to pass out.  

Andrew took a slow drag of his cigarette, exhaling through his nose.  

Aaron turned, meeting Andrew’s gaze for the first time.  

Andrew raised an eyebrow.  

Aaron shrugged, as if to say, What? You weren’t going to do it.  

Andrew smirked.  

Seth didn’t say another word for the rest of the night.  

And for the first time, the Foxes understood—  

There were two Minyards.  

And neither of them was someone you wanted to fuck with.

"How does it feel?" He asks Kevin.

"Losing is not pleasant for anyone," says Kevin.

"Sorry," Andrew says without meaning it at all. "I wanted to say, how does it feel to know that Monsieur Misérable and Mr. Golden Smile are fucking together and have agreed to beat you up?"

Kevin turns to him with a growing bad mood.

"They're not having sex."

"D'Artagnan hit you too hard with the racket. You don't know what you're saying."

"They're not having sex, Andrew!"

"New bet then. I say that France conquers California before the end of the year... In two months if Monsieur Trauma takes care of his shit."

"...Jeremy has never told me he's gay."

Andrew remains silent. He turns his head towards Kevin very very slowly.

"300 dollars."

"We're not going to bet on this..."

"500 dollars."

"Why are you so happy to do this?"

"What do you mean, Kevin? I'm a very happy man."

It's impossible to tell if Andrew is joking with that unflappable expression.

And so the betting returns to the Foxes.

could we please talk about that sleepover the Foxes had after Baltimore because i think it was so sweet.

like in tfc they two groups hated each other and couldn’t stand each other and then in tkm they all ended up sleeping in the same room after what happened to Neil (since he was also the one who united the two groups ig).

“Matt and Aaron shoved the couch out of the way” as much as Aaron says he hates Neil, even he saw the importance of being together that night and even helped and hopefully didn’t argue about them all being together which that i also find really sweet.

they all have their issues but they’re united when it matters, i also think this was a turning point where they didn’t care about their feud they just wanted Neil back after almost losing him.
