I'm reading Shatter Me for the first time and all I have to say so far is:

WHAT? THE? FUCK???? Warner's giving ick. I don't like him. I want to punch him in the face and kick him in the balls repeatedly. I want to get Juliette out of there. What the hell??? What the actual hell???

Guys, what is the plot of the Shatter Me series? I haven't seen any discussion of the plot and all I see is the romance (plus people simping over warner). Also I don't mind spoilers, I usually have to get spoiled if I want to get invested in something.

I always wanted to read the shatter me series but those covers keep pushing me away. 😭

they are certainly unique covers (imagine me cover my beloathed). I enjoyed Shatter Me as a teen; now I have... questions and complaints about it. but I also believe there's a reader for every book, and many people genuinely enjoy these. some non-spoiler thoughts incoming:

imo, you're most likely to enjoy Shatter Me if you have realistic expectations of its genre. while it's advertised as dystopian YA, it lacks the strong worldbuilding & themes that we expect from good dystopia (not to mention that the resolution is nonsensical from a worldbuilding & political perspective. again, imo!). so if you're expecting good dystopia, your reading experience might be a bit rough.

in truth, Shatter Me is like the dystopian equivalent of romantasy—in a way, it was ahead of its time (which is my theory about why it's recently experienced a resurgence in popularity!). the plot and worldbuilding are designed to push two characters together & create an interesting dynamic/story between them. because of that, if you isolate the plot and worldbuilding on their own, they make... not a lot of sense. but if you understand (to take an example from the first book, so it's not too spoilery) that Warner belongs to an authoritarian government system as a way to create internal conflict and make him a Morally Grey Sad Boi, then the system doesn't have to make sense so long as it serves the relationship. if you understand that Juliette has powers as a way to semi-heavy-handedly communicate some metaphors about trauma and agency, then you don't have to think about the larger implications of a world populated by people who are as, if not more, powerful than her—you just have to understand how it drives her interiority and her relationships with the two romantic interests.

I don't mean to sound harsh with any of this. while it's been years since I read the series, I still remember the dynamic between the romantic leads. it was compelling! I mostly enjoyed it! but the reason I never picked up the new books (SM was originally written as a trilogy, then expanded into a longer series, which is... a whole different gripe I have) is because they promised to dive more into the world & its politics, and I just didn't trust that any of it would hold up under scrutiny. and from what I've heard of the new books... yeah, that seems to be the prevailing issue.

you might enjoy Shatter Me if you're looking for dystopian-flavored romance. the love interest is hot, he's morally grey, he's got tattoos (shakespeare, anyone?), and he simps for the main girl, so if that's your taste, yk? and the writing style is definitely more experimental than most YA—it's emotional, highly metaphorical, and at times even stream-of-consciousness—which I can appreciate despite it being too flowery and melodramatic for my personal taste. I genuinely don't judge anyone who enjoys the series, I just think we need to be realistic about how we recommend it.

Like I've read so many books and after one point you can predict what type of charectors an author can write. You understand their scope and calibre.

And like, even though the Hawthornes are portrayed as these hot sexy god-like bois who make women loose their minds I NEVER ever felt it

But my point is, with certain charectors like - Kenji Kishmoto, Aaron Warner, Kaz Brekker, Percy Jackson, Cardan Greenbriar, Malini (from da jasmine throne), alex claremont-diaz, Lord Thyco you can like FEEL the aura, the 'hot' aura

Like their PERSONALITIES contribute to the hotness.

• Kenji's obsession with tangled, his ability to calm people, his goofiness, him genuinely giving a fuck abt people, not being a Gale Hawthorne, and his obsession for Nazeera, his willingness to sacrifice himself for his friends

• Aaron's fashion sense, his willingness to burn the world for her, to wait for her, helping her become powerful, helping her find herself i.e re-discover her past, and eating a cookie with a knife and fork ; ‘Come back here’ ‘Home’, ‘lyhfml’

• Kaz Brekker ripping a guy's eye out for his girl, finding her parents for her, freeing her from her indenture and her sexual trauma, wanting to bottle up her laugh and get drunk on it, his crazy revenge plans, ‘I would've come for you’, dropping a guy from a tower for objectifying women.

• Percy simping for Annabeth and jumping into tartarus with her and almost dying for her, respecting his mom, having a loveable persona, standing up to the gods, messing with the gods, being sarcastic and a great leader.

•Cardan Greenbriar begging Jude to come back to him and allowing her to murder/attempt to murder him again and again and making her the queen of Elfhelm so she feels one with the magic

• Princess Malini of Parijatdvipada helping her girlfriend find herself, making her remember her childhood, save her people and her culture, re-discover her magic, establish a relationship with her brother, making her truly HAPPY and WHOLE again, Refusing to burn on that pyre

•Alex claremont-diaz giving his boyfriend the strength to truly be himself, helping him ; LIKE actually doing wonders for his man, gives him the courage to come out to his family, is actually there for henry (the boyfriend) whenever he needs him, goes after Henry and their relationship, the Texas campaign—

• Lord Thyco accepting his boyfriend, showing him he's not a burden but a blessing, bringing out the best in him, helping his boyfriend and his bestfriend by not letting them die on the streets

But with the Hawthornes it's like, you're supposed to think they're hot, end of story.

The only hawthorne I actually like is Grayson, because he reminds me of Henry from red white and royal blue.

I read the whole series for him and I don't think he and Lyra should be a thing

I don't think the Hawthornes really did that.

And they have potential, with nash being a cowboy, Jameson loving mysteries and whatnot but it's not well executed.

Don't tell me that it's a mystery puzzle kinda book, you can't have best of both worlds.

Again, all the charectors I stated above are from action packed fun books and they have great personality.

Alright here are some of my fallout hot takes:

Deacon x MacCready is weird/gross, not founded in canon, and borderline pedophilic if you think about the most likely age difference and how a lot of people headcanon Deacon as the lone wanderer.

People being into Kent the ghoul weirds me out because of how child-like he is. Same goes for Curie, she’s literally born sexy yesterday and has the basic social knowledge of a child. It’s really messed up to try to romance her and her dialogue even shows how confused and somewhat uncomfortable she is. 

People being super into Maxson feels the same to me as people being super into Vulpes. They are both pretty unattractive, openly and horrifically fascist/violent bigots/genocidal/literally pure evil, and being very into them is weird when there are so many other non-horrific options to choose from.

On that note, in anyway liking the Legion and the people in it is so fucked up like actually why.

DiMA is the literal worst and we just forgive it because he is some pretty clear queer representation. 

MacCready in fallout 4 is written VERY poorly.

Porter Gage is pretty damn evil and while I don’t begrudge people for liking him I feel like a lot of people forget that he isn’t a good or normal person.

Piper is actually a really well written and well developed character and just because one of her articles was not written well in game does not mean that she is a bad reporter. She’s a very underrated character in the fandom.

I have a bunch of other opinions that are not very popular but here are the most spicy ones. 

I’ll be responding to each one best as I can, if I agree, disagree or in the middle of it. These takes are really interesting and should be talked about more in my eyes. And I also ask what you guys think on each take. Do you agree, disagree or in the middle of it?

Personally, I haven’t seen much relating to the ship of Deacon and Mac in a romantic way. (I have seen more friendship and dynamic duo stuff) I can understand it’s a bit weird considering that Mac is (I believe) 22 in the timeline of Fallout 4. Considering we don’t know of Deacon’s real age (I believe he might be in his late 20’s early 30’s if we ignore the headcanon of him being the lone wander) we’re unsure of the real age gap between the two. So I don’t super agree that the ship in a romantic light could be considered pedophilic as they are both adults in Fallout 4 HOWEVER if we consider the headcanon of Deacon being the Lone Warner, I can understand where you’re coming from as the two met when Mac was 12 (making Deacon 19 and thus 29 in Fallout 4) But I also the ask the question, would it be a similar situation if the Sole Survive romances, Mac, as it appears that Sole is at least in their 30’s? 

I agree with this for the most part! I never really though about people being attracted to Kent like that as I he’s not a big part of my playing experiences. With Curie, I always found it weird when flirting with her for the first time as she has no idea what’s really going on as she is a literal roboto before. She seems more of child when comes to the real world. And also I find the romatic/flirting interactions with Curie kind of… cringe to say the least.

I understand this as I personally hate Maxson and how he thinks and speaks, but I can get inside of someone who loves a good villain. I’m not too familiar with Vulpes so I can’t say too much. If Maxon wasn’t a complet asshole towrads synths and ghoul and LITERALLY MAKES SOLE TO KILL DANSE CAUSE OF IT, and he was more sympathic, I think he’d be more attractive. I get that people can be attractive to villains, but… Maxon? Like I don’t care how great of a coat and beard you got bro, you’re a little shit head. I think people just ignore all of that when they simp for him.

I personally haven’t played New Vegas in so long, so I can’t say much about it.

This one, I disagree on, but can understand why this can be the case. DiMA, I believe is genuinely symathic to what he has done and actuall cares about causing peace for his people as well as everyone in Far Harbor. Personally, I am a DiMA lover so I might be bias on this front, but I do think he is a good person with a bad past and I do agree that some of the things he has done are a little shady, but overall I think he wants peace and the best for Far Harbor. Also side note, I’ll only play the main quest of Far Harbor with Nick Valintine.

I agree, and it sucks as he is a reacurring character from Fallout 3, I wish we could expand on his relation with his wife and son, maybe even meeting his son in the game after his quest line. This goes with a lot of characters in Fallout 4 and that is my biggest issue with the game. There are so much amazing things they could have done. 

I think the reason for why people like him is why some like Maxson, they like a good villain. Personally I like Gage more then Maxon as he’s fun to run away with and not as annoying then Maxon is to me.

I don’t run around much with Piper, but what I have seen feels like a real person to me. She has a lot of personality to her and her backstory seems well rounded, but I do think their is some things that I wish was expanded on with her character, and this can just me be, like her relationship with her sister. I for sure think the fandom needs to give Piper more love.

Velma-a mystery solved?

When it comes to the series “Velma”, it is all about solving mysteries. With this series, there are indeed several mysteries. Who thought making a show about a self loathing individual, hating everyone else more then herself, a good idea? What artistic statement does two mating cockroaches being stomped on make? Why hasn’t the FBI been investigating people who believe that minors should be sexualized? Did the creators believe making a black male into a simp was positive representation? However, one mystery seems to be why Scooby Doo isn’t in this show?

YouTubers at Clownfish TV suggested is the people making the show, didn’t have the right to use the character, but if Warner Brothers cared about this IP, they wouldn’t have handed it over to Mindy Kaling as a soapbox to vent her rage about women who are attractive and white males. Yet, as the sixth episode escapes-I mean is released, we get a plot point introduction, that I believe will lead to a canine addition to the cast of Velma. However, this is just a theory- a lame show theory.

In episode six, we learn about a government program which involves human brains. We have previously learned about a secret lab under Fred’s house. Early on, we learn how “hot teenage girls” have had their brains removed. We have learned that the US Military was involved in a program that involved swapping brains, to create a spy system using teenagers and brain swapping.

We also learn how  Dr. Edna Perdue demonstrated the ability to keep a brain alive, and communicate with it, in a jar. Because of outrage, she had her lab in her home’s basement sealed, and had herself committed. That house bought by Fred’s father, and that was also Velma mother’s last known location.

So we now have an idea why the brains of these “hot” teenage girl brains are being harvested, and I also think how this will lead to the introduction of how a Great Dane will be introduced into the series. It has to do with Norville’s (Shaggy ‘s actual name) girl friend Gigi.

Gigi is a girl that want’s Shaggy as a love interest. This upset’s Velma, who has already laughed at Shaggy’s declaration of love for her. She hates that Shaggy’s love for Gigi will interfere with his running errands for her. Since Velma is the center of this show, all the characters in Velma’s future mystery solving team, but have Velma as the star, they must orbit around. I suspect Gigi, who is claimed to be a hot girl by Velma, will turn up as one of the girls with her brain removed. Her brain will turn up in the laboratory located in Fred’s house. In a show where you can keep a brain in a jar alive, it should be possible to have that brain transferred to a dog. Gigi, becomes “Scoobi”. 

As a disclaimer, I haven’t seen an episode of “Velma”, but I have seen a lot of reviews on Youtube, and I find the ranting about the show very entertaining. This is a show which has been very unifying, in that the left side of the aisle seems to despise the show as much as the right. Finally we have something to unify people who typically disagree with each other, and that this may be the absolute worst show to ever be brought to the small screen.

The one thing I will not deny the Gotham Knights trailer for is at 4:24 into the trailer two random Gotham citizens call out Red Hood after he flips over a damn ice cream truck and one goes "It's Red Hood!" In Supersons we see a couple of kids that are implied to be Damian and Jon's children and the boy has laser eyes and can fly, so I asume he's not adopted. The girl, who calls Bruce grandpa, can also fly, btw. So it's canon (probably by accident) that Jon can have kids and he must have married one of Bruce's kids. Siren au: Nya and Kai are sirens. Jay is a pirate they kidnap and keep as a pet/friend.

Cyborg Jay/ Cyborg!Jay: Jay has been augmenting himself in secret and has a whole system of inventions he’s wires into himself.

Oni Misako au: Misako is an oni that was sent to Ninjago as a scouting party, but met Mystake, fell in love with Garmadon, and decided to just live in Ninjago instead of trying to destroy it.

Fate/Ninjago: A holy grail war featuring all your favorite Ninjago characters! (Or at least weird reincarnated substitutes of some of them.) Cross over with the Fate series.*

Ninjatubers: The ninja get Youtube channels for various reasons. Chaos ensues.

Tall Vampire Lady Misako: Misako is a Lady Dimitrescu style vampire. Garmadon is a simp for his giant wife. (There is no tag for this because it got out of hand too fast and there is no way I can dig through and find everything now.)

Grandpa Djinn: Darla was pregnant before Nadakhan's banishment and was Kai and Nya's great something grandmother. Nadakhan escaped the tea pot early and is delighted to take in his great something grandkids.

Uncle Krux: Multiple versions. Krux takes Kai and Nya in instead of leaving them to fend for themselves and either raises them to be evil, or slowly gives up on the evil plan. Alternatively, he gives up on the evil plan before he ever kidnapped Ray and Maya.

Brainwashed Kai (Mod Ivy's Version): Instead of just stealing Kai’s element, Aspheera decides to take him as well, brainwashing him into being her decorative pet

Miraculous au: Lloyd accidentally gets stuck in the Miraculous Ladybug universe, the rest of the ninja soon follow. Hawkmoth is his usual jerk, the ninja use some miraculous and just generally deal with the chaos all while they figure out how to get home.

Monkie Kid crossover: the ninja adopt a child from another realm when he randomly gets spit out by a portal directly in their front yard.*

Amnesicpirate!Jay au/ Orpheus!Jay: Jay gets kidnapped by Nadakhan and has his memories stolen. Jay is told that he’s always lived on the Misfortune’s Keep and that his name is Orpheus. The ninja recognize him, he doesn’t know who they are or why they keep calling him “J”.

Bunker au/ Bunker!Kai: Movie!Kai finds an abandoned super villain lair under his house and decides to use it as his own personal secret clubhouse. Show!Kai ends up in the Movie universe and Movie!Kai puts him in the super villain bunker and keeps him a secret from everybody while Show!Kai figures out how to get home.

Cryptid Jay Aus: Jay is a Cryptid that endlessly builds towers that the ninja need to stop. 3 versions, Gay, Child* and Greiving.

Amongus!au: The ninja are aboard a spaceship, and everything is going fine. Until they realize there is an imposter on the ship, planning to kill everyone.*

Kai instead au: In the pilot, Kai gets taken by the skullkin instead of Nya. Now she has to go find her brother. Nya gets help from three students who are also trying to stop the skulkin, they also want some weapons that she couldn’t care less about.*

DHMIS!au: The ninja as the Dhmis characters. Things go about as well as expected.*

Animaniacs au: The Warners mess with a machine of the Brains, meant for Brain to use the help of alternate universe versions of himself. This causes the three Warners to to be teleported to this weird place called “ninjago”, like what a stupid name!*

Hadestown au: It’s the Hadestown musical. Garmadon is Persephone, Misako is Hades. (Plasma au)*

Wrong place wrong timeline: The ninja keep seeing the apparition of a strange person desperately trying to get to them, disappearing right before they get to them. When trying to learn more about what’s going on, they learn that Garmadon is a little more ruthless than they thought.*

Brainwashed Kai au/ Brainwashed!Kai: Instead of just stealing Kai’s element, Aspheera decides to take him as well, brainwashing him into being her servant.

Siren Jay au/ Siren!Jay: Jay is part siren on his mother’s side and doesn’t have perfect control over his siren powers.

Element Swap au/ Element Swap!Kai, and Element Swap!Nya: Nya is the master of Fire and Kai is the master of water.

Ghost of Time AU/ Ghost of time: Kai dies fighting Krux and Acronix in the timestream, causing him to be removed from time. Small evidence remains of him existing like a blurry video of his final moment. Kai’s ghost is outside of time and has virtually no memories. The ninja think he’s important, but can’t figure it out, plus there are some holes in their own memories where things don’t make sense. 

Duolingo Lloyd: Lloyd is the duolingo bird (with a gun) and terrorizes Kai in his nightmares. (and I guess now Misako has an alter ego named Rosetta Stone that’s the same thing)
