The brainrot took over and so here's a vat7k hadestown au!! Don't know if I'll develop it fully but I liked designing it at least!
More info under the cut:
- Varian, the Coronan royal alchemist, tasks himself with deciphering an incantation capable of bringing the world back into tune. Times are tough, and the royal family + Quirin are doing their best to cope with the meagre crop yields and desolate weather (Corona not really being the sunshine kingdom - hasn't been for a while). He wants to help and do good and I think he'd be a good Orpheus.
- Hugo, having moved about from place to place, still has his interest in alchemy and does what he can to get by. He plans on temporarily staying in Corona before looting, but he encounters a certain like-minded scientist at the Snuggly Duckling. I think him being selfish works especially well in Eurydice's role, having a more pessimistic view of the world. It also works with how he gets drawn to Donella's offer of working for her later on, leading him to his death.
- Ulla as Persephone! I was initially stuck on whether to have Rapunzel (and either Eugene/Cass) as her (and Hades) but I was drawn to the connection that Hugo has to Donella and the Donella/Ulla relationship in vat7k just works too well. In this case, Ulla won't be Varian's mother. She's still gonna be somewhat of an inspiration to him though, being the previous Coronan royal alchemist and for her intelligence. For half the year, she'll return to Corona with food, drinks, and alchemical compounds/inventions, bringing Spring and Summer to the world, if only for a bit.
- Donella would be such an interesting Hades, losing sight of her love for Ulla, heart filled with fear and hurt, leading to bitterness and cruelty. Ingvarr being Hadestown and how by being the esteemed Ingvarrian engineer, she'd be in charge of major technological advances across the kingdoms and so would wield a significant amount of power (like how Hades is literally the ruler of the underworld). Ingvarr essentially being a near death sentence for its workers while also displaying its technological prowess, all still shrouded in mystery and corruption - a place so otherworldly compared to the rest of the kingdoms.
I didn't want to modify the outfits too much nor the personalities,, if anything I imagine the general plot beats being the same as the original musical/story but with slight differences that'd you get inherently as a result of these characters. I wouldn't want it to be the case where it's just the show but the names are changed. I'd want this to still make reasonable sense in this AU, with the actions being understandable for this particular cast of characters.
For Hermes, I ended up picking Xavier, as he's most knowledgeable of old legends and stories, which would work in reference to the Hades and Persephone myth (and so Donella and Ulla)! He'd act as a mentor figure for V, someone who can guide him in uncovering the forgotten incantation. Quirin would still be the good supportive dad he is (even if he doesn't fully understand his son's project).
Last but not least, the fates!! often lurking in the background, I'm still a bit stuck on who it could be? I'm tempted to have it be Raps, Cass, and Nuru as they've had celestial connections at some point (and ya know how stars can represent fate), but I also love the freckled siblings dynamic so much. Also Team Radical... Maybe Raps and Cass can be their normal selves but their Sundrop/Moonstone counterparts are the manifested physical forms of the fates? They wouldn't be visible to the characters though, just voices in the wind.
Anyways yeah!! Those are my thoughts. Do let me know if you've got any cool ideas or questions. I'm really combining my interests at full force and there's nothing anyone, not even myself, can do about it quite frankly. 😼‍💹

I'm seeing so much commentary on people reacting to the live action atla toning down Sokka's misogyny
and I'm over here like this is a total non-issue because in my own rewrite of the show I already did that exact thing, it makes complete sense to do it and they should do it because it's a weaker aspect of the original show
Sokka's early misogyny is utterly cartoonish in comparison to the set up of the rest of the SWT, it doesn't feel realistic for the only teenaged boy in a dying culture surrounded by adult women with a grandmother who left a more out and out misogynist society to act the way he does
how Sokka "resolves" his misogyny is equally cartoonish, I never liked how in The Warriors of Kyoshi literally episode 4 of the show makes a teen girl compromise her own culture with a female only fighting tradition teach a boy who is supremely rude and disrespectful to her and then still be attracted to him afterwards, it's more misogyny to fix misogyny and is very obviously men writing about how to fix misogyny especially as they have Aang make a joke about Sokka wearing a dress after going through how meaningful the fighting costume is and how a lot of Asian clothing with hanfu influences like atla borrows from would have men in what to western eyes would be dresses, Aang has already seen multiple male authority figures in robes, the joke makes no sense
I also wouldn't consider Sokka's misogyny genuinely resolved after this, consider how the show deals with his romantic relationships with both Yue and Suki and how both can be seen as extensions of how Kataang is treated in the show, rewards for the hero, especially with how Sokka interacts aggressively with Hahn instead of respecting Yue's wishes whatever her reasons for them, I think an argument can be made that Yue's death is a fridging for Sokka's storyline rather than or in combination with being a consequence of Aang's failure as an avatar or the culmination of her own storyline where she fulfills her duties as a leader to protect her own people
Beyond his romantic relationships, while Sokka drops a lot of his more misogynistic language with Katara, he doesn't support her when she faces off with the NWT leaders to learn waterbending, and he still leaves the caretaking and food preparation and grocery shopping to her which is more common than him going out to hunt or gather in order to provide for the group while he takes a leadership role like determining their travel schedule and routes, it is not an even division of labor and falls along traditional sex stereotypes
In addition to his typical duties to the group, Sokka also remains invested in the trappings of masculinity after ep4, he's concerned about what's manly and how he compares to Jet for example, there's no investigation or interrogation in his interest in meat and hunting and how they relate to masculinity and his misogyny, in the episode with Piando, his insecurity as a non-bender is resolved by giving him a new male mentor and a new martial skill, sword fighting, which is masculine in both western and Asian cultures rather than assuaging his self esteem issues in any less stereotypically masculine ways, I also think it was done so he could compare more favorably to Zuko, another male character, and even his interest in engineering and mechanics comes with a male mentor and is a traditionally masculine pursuit
the show's poor handling of misogyny also extends beyond Sokka, with the NWT, the show acts as if Pakku is the only reason the tribe is misogynistic and the only consequences to that misogyny is that women can't waterbend and there are arranged marriages, and that both the NWT and Pakku's misogyny is resolved by allowing only Katara to learn to waterbend which she doesn't even earn on her own merits, she gets the opportunity because Pakku likes her grandmother
none of this is realistic, misogyny is not because of one bad apple, Pakku doesn't make Yue's arranged marriage, Chief Arnook does, he picked Hahn for her, and the show acts as if Arnook has no authority to compel Pakku to teach Katara or any ability to persuade him in order to reduce his culpability in the NWT's misogyny as its leader to make him a more respectable character so it's not uncomfortable when Aang and Sokka follow his orders in the battle later on, but women not being able to bend and forced into arranged marriages is still status quo when the gaang leaves, Yue's just dead
I'm not even convinced the show runners understand what's wrong with arranged marriage, the issue is not Yue can't be with Sokka who she likes and at most has a slight crush on cuz she's only known him for like two days, it's that she's being treated as male property, a broodmare, and a vehicle to ensure Hahn receives the throne because her father has no male heir and picked some guy to succeed him instead, like it's not explicit in the show but that is the implication based on the historical reality of princesses in arranged marriages, and the show has her get out of it only through death idc that she ascends to being a spirit, it's still a teen girl that dies
There's also no discussion by the show of the Earth Kingdom's misogyny when it has the exact same shit going on, Toph is the only female earthbender in the show not including avatars, there might have been a female earthbender in the background when Katara broke them out of prison, but I'm not really counting that, the entire army and Dai Li are all made up of men, the EK might even be worse because the show doesn't demonstrate that women and girls even have the capacity to earthbend aside from Toph and avatars and Toph doesn't even learn from a human, she has to learn from animals, the show treats this as commentary on her disability but the show has no compelling reason why it can't also be commentary on her sex, Toph was also originally supposed to be a boy so this could have ended up so much worse there literally would have been no female earthbenders aside from avatars at all, I'm not counting Oma as she might just be a mythological figure not a real person that once lived
The Fire Nation kinda barely avoids the same issue, Azula is the only named female firebender aside from avatars in the show but she has two female sidekicks who despite being non-benders show martial skill and there are clearly female soldiers and guards in the FN military so there are much stronger implications of female firebenders existing and being completely allowed to train their abilities and that Azula isn't exceptional in that respect like Toph is, only for being a prodigy with blue fire
Azula was also originally supposed to have an arranged marriage in s3 and they dropped it in favor of showing that royal and noble girls could casually date in the FN which has wild implications for women's empowerment in the country more so than but especially in combination with the fact women can train and join the military (which is why I say the FN is not fascist it's literally the least misogynistic country aside from Kyoshi and by like a country mile so it's literally not misogynistic enough) not that the show does anything more than minor teen drama with it
again, the vast majority of this misogyny is completely unremarked upon by the show especially after s1 when they leave the NWT, it is clearly a fictional world made by men with no true understanding of misogyny just a vague awareness that misogyny is bad and what the really obvious and outdated examples of it are, this is a narrative inconsistency in the show to have the examples and commentary on misogyny be so cartoonish in the beginning and then disappear after s1
your options to resolve this inconsistency is to either go all in with more realistic misogyny and provide commentary on all of it but this takes effort and will be divisive, or take the easier route and ease off the cartoonish-ness of it and comment less on it to avoid drawing attention to all instances of misogyny in the show
obviously Netflix was gonna do the latter
(not me tho, I'm making it less cartoony and dealing with it in my rewrite)

New character reveal!
Tumblr media
This is actually an old character I've had for a while but just didn't like the previous design of... Thankfully I was able to score an trade with @hdra77 .
1000CE is an old militaristic ancestor of the iterators, created before the discovery of void fluid, and when the field of bio-engineering was still in it's earlier phases. More lore is below the cut...
1000 Crimson Embers is not a true iterator – instead being an old militaristic ancestor. She was originally built in a time of war just before the discovery of void fluid. She was one of the first artificial intelligence to use a combination of both biological and mechanical systems. Although the technology used in her creation was considerably more primitive than what’s found in the iterators we know and love today. But despite the difference in technology – a lot of the basic concepts and functionality in her design remains largely the same;
The layout of her structure was still fairly large, although not nearly as big as an iterator, and was built as an underground bunker. But the main similarity was how her mind was constructed
Similarly to how iterators in my head cannon have their personalty core and spiritual anchor located within their puppet – 1000 Crimson Embers has a standard brain and supporting set of organs acting as her center of consciousness within her puppet. Her puppet is also much larger than that of an iterator – being the height of an adult ancient instead of that of a child. The exterior of her puppet consists of hard metal plates and mechanical components. Her clothing is also built into her puppet. 1000 Crimson Embers doesn't utilized neuron flies in her structure, as they had yet to be invented by the time she was built – instead she’s outsourcing her cognitive processing to a massive array of inorganic server towers.
1000 Crimson Ember’s purpose was to design and create weapons, as well as to formulate strategies. She was loyal and hard working at the start, showing no serous signs of defiance despite her instinctual taboos being primitive and largely ineffective
That was until after the dawn of the void fluid revolution
With the ancients uniting under the common goal of ascension – the world entered a lasting era of peace – deeming 1000 Crimson Ember’s original purpose obsolete. However the ancients were inclined to keep her online for just awhile longer, as they still had some use for her. They tasked her in helping to create her own undoing – the iterators. She wasn’t a fool though, she knew what they were doing
They were building her replacement and trying to get her to help them in her own downfall! She lashed out in a violent fit of rage – ‘How dare they just carelessly replace her like this after all the thankless work she’s done for them!’ She drove them out of her facility by turning her security systems against them, killing many in her fit of rage.
But the ancients still needed the schematics and research for iterator tech 1000 Crimson Embers had already started work on before she had realized their true intentions behind it. So they struck a deal with her. They would upgrade her with the new iterator technology if she let them back in and got back to work for them. 1000CE reluctantly excepted the deal. But when the work was complete, and the time for her upgrades had come... They put her in stasis for the procedure
But they never kept their end of deal. They simply walked away and left her slumbering form to collect dust.
She awakened again many years after
To the sight of a group of scavengers that had broken in and accidentally reactivated her while attempting to gather scrap. The first thing she did upon seeing the invading creatures that were so rudely ripping her apart – was to reactivate the security system and kill every last one of them. However the damage had already been done. Upon running a system diagnostics, she found that her defenses had been breached, much of her facility has been flooded, and she’s all round in a severe state of disrepair. She would need to do something about that, and fast
Her weather systems were picking up on a massive encroaching storm.
Ultimately she would find her structure too damaged to sustain for much longer
She would end up using the freedom her weaker taboos and more self-significant puppet gives her to take herself off the strings, to at least save her core from the impending decay and flooding of her structure. But the world she would step out into would be very different from what she’s used too
Her home was once an arid region – but now it’s been turned into a tropics by the increased rainfall that has taken over the world and changed it the point of being near unrecognizable from what it once was.

Hello! I adore your art, and I was wondering if I could ask you a question:
How do you come up with your designs? They are so pretty, especially Eddie and James ♡♡
I'm asking this because I'm having trouble creating designs for both Gordon and James for my AU, Hope.
Thank you for seeing this, I wish you a splendid day/night! :3
Why hello!!!
Oh gee I would ramble alot in this
Before I make a design, I like to list things that I like about them, their hcs, their ethnicity, and their primary colors
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For example, Edward's primary color is blue, but he as a character is a kind and soft soul, in my hc his patience thins faster in adults, so a combination of white and red is a great indicator of this, The red being on his Tie and hair tie so it doesn't overpower the other colors.
My James is the one that's a little complicated, mainly because he's more based on his ethnicity, but him being a vainy, self-centered and show-offy means he likes to stand out, he likes being in the center of attention, so gold is the next best option, but for my James because he have aspects of him that is more cozy (he likes cooking, making clothes and learning languages), earthy Brown is used to support the bright red, that also helps with tuning down his personality a bit.
And next, are Shapes!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again, their personality plays a big part, in Designing it's a factor that you would want to show your character's personality through their design, The three pillars of Round, Square, and Triangle Aspects plays a huge role.
If you see here, My Edward has a more fluffy, friendly look to it, with a hint of an old soul, and a fire that had died out, his design is rounded.
The same with my James, he has more edge, a sharper touch than Edward!
Appearance is also important, wether you go hand to hand by giving them buffers like a literal anthropomorphic trains, mecha, or more human etc, appearance is an indicator.
You might make them all have the same uniforms because they're a worker, but giving (for example) Gordon square glasses, then combining it with his basely square body type, can indicate he's a strict person, so on.
My James has alot in his design
Tumblr media
Golden details in his clothing, Brown as a secondary color, darker red on his coat so that it doesn't clash with the main red in his outer, earrings and lip piercing indicating he loves accessories to support/show off his appearance, the moles I give him for that beauty marks, the Batik on his coat to represent his proudness of his home country, the coat that he make himself, he wears make up to touch up his appearance.
Alot can go on in a design, Mine is not God-Tier level designing, and I'm not an extremely experienced character designer, but these are the indicators I usually do whenever I make my designs.
In simple terms, list what you want to have in your engine design, and build it off from there, this is to prevent overcrowdedness.
And that's all! Thank you for the ask!
You don't have to follow it step by step, be as comfortable as you like, these are just factors and tips to help in designingđŸ©”
Hope it helps!!!

LET'S TALK ABOUT WHO LOKI CHOOSES
I've previously discussed romantic tropes in the Loki series in my meta here. This meta supports the former by counting each of Loki's decisions with each of Loki's love interests (Sylvie and Mobius) and where those decisions occur in the progression of the overall story of S1 and S2 combined. The end of S1 is the midpoint of the whole story. Bear this in mind as I track how Loki's decision-making shifts. You can even choose to view Loki's decision-making with respect to Mobius as platonic if you want. It doesn't change the plot, count, or character development.
I have to give Sylvie attention and credit where it is due. To not do so would not only ignore her legitimate importance in the series and Loki's development, but it would also undermine my own credibility as an essayist. Feel free to comment, but here are my ground rules: no hate and no yucking other people's yum.
S1E1: Loki chooses himself. We could make the argument Loki chooses to trust Mobius here, but I don't think we see Loki start to like Mobius as a person until S1E2.
S1E2: Loki straddles between choosing himself and choosing to help Mobius because he actually wants to. It helps that the latter serves self-preservation. Loki most obviously chooses himself when he bullshits Mobius at the RenFaire. His choice is more gray when proposing the apocalypse theory. To be conservative, I won't count this in Mobius's favor. However, I feel fairly confident Loki chooses to help Mobius (1) sift through the possible apocalypses because of this genuine reaction:
Tumblr media
Loki is starved for praise. He's a centuries-old god for goodness sakes.
When a third option presents itself at Roxxcart, Loki chooses himself and Sylvie (1).
Tumblr media
S1E3: Loki chooses to: 1.) help Sylvie through "attempting diplomacy" with the widow (2), 2.) help Sylvie with his "shit plan" disguise (3), 3.) be vulnerable with Sylvie on the train (4), 4.) sing Sylvie a song (5), 5.) help Sylvie get to the arc (6).
Tumblr media
S1E4: Loki chooses to comfort Sylvie by holding her hand; their feelings for each other trigger a giant Nexus Event (7). Loki chooses to tell Mobius the truth about the TVA; if he didn't care about Mobius, he would have withheld this information (2). Loki chooses to trust Mobius (3). Loki chooses to reciprocate Mobius’s feelings of friendship (4). Loki chooses, with Mobius, to find and rescue Sylvie (8). Loki chooses to combat Renslayer with Sylvie (9). Loki chooses to confront the Timekeepers with Sylvie and gets pruned (10).
Tumblr media
S1E5: Loki chooses to share a blanket with Sylvie (11). Loki chooses to stay in the Void and follow Sylvie to the end of time, "Where you go, I go" (12). Loki chooses to hug Mobius (5). Loki chooses to trust Sylvie's insistence that he intrinsically knows how to enchant (13).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
S1E6 (THE MIDPOINT): The confrontation with HWR is tricky. Loki chooses to slow down and think about the consequences because he's learned the value of slowing down and thinking from Mobius (6). Loki chooses to kiss Sylvie back (I realize this is debatable for many Lokius fans, but I'm not going to argue this; 14)
Tumblr media
S2 NOTES: For the sake of my own sanity, I am not counting Loki's unconscious and conscious timeslipping. You can refer to the counts for that in my meta here. I will also not be counting the near-infinite number of loops Loki refuses to kill Sylvie for "the good of the multiverse."
S2E1: Loki chooses to seek out Mobius for help (7). Loki chooses to be vulnerable with Mobius in the hallway (8). Loki chooses to trust Mobius's judgment that they only have one shot at stopping the timeslipping (9).
Tumblr media
S2E2: Loki chooses to protect Mobius from Brad (10). Loki chooses to help Mobius reverse-engineer Brad's TemPad (11). Loki chooses to comfort Mobius in the pie automat (12). Loki chooses to follow Mobius's intimidation plan for Brad (13). Loki chooses to convince Sylvie to join his and the TVA's cause (Sylvie declines #1; 15). Loki chooses to hold hands with Sylvie to combine their blast power (16). Loki chooses to follow Mobius back to the TVA (14). Loki chooses to ask Sylvie to stay and help (Sylvie declines #2; 17). Loki chooses to comfort Mobius in the Control Room (15).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
S2E3: Loki chooses to humor Mobius's sightseeing (16). Loki chooses to try cracker jack (and hates it; 17). Loki chooses to prioritize the Loom per Mobius’s advisement (18). Loki chooses to give into Mobius's tandem bike request (19). Loki chooses to plead with Sylvie to spare Timely and asks for her help (NOTE: this is Loki's 3rd request; writers love the significance of threes and Sylvie turns Loki down all three times; 18).
Tumblr media
S2E4: Loki chooses to defend Mobius in the Pie Automat (20). Loki chooses to compare (through implication) Thor's relationship with Jane with his relationship with Mobius (21). Loki chooses to use this same comparison to assure Sylvie that her mercy on Timely was an act of mercy for all people on all timelines (19).
Tumblr media
S2E5: Loki chooses to look for Mobius in the Pie Automat (22). Loki chooses to look for Mobius in the Control Room (23). Loki chooses to recruit Mobius (24). Loki chooses to quote Mobius's "form and function" to Don (25), Loki chooses to help Mobius through the time door (26). Loki chooses to promise Don (Mobius) that he can return him to any point in time (27). Loki chooses to recruit Sylvie (20; she turns him down a 4th time). Loki chooses to argue with Sylvie that Mobius should have a choice (28). Loki chooses to listen to Sylvie that his friends are better off without the TVA (21). Loki chooses to let Don go for Mobius’s own good (29). Loki chooses to control timeslipping upon hearing Sylvie say "Do you think what makes a Loki a Loki is that we're destined to lose?" (22). Loki chooses to rewrite the story to save Sylvie and Mobius (23 / 30, respectively).
Tumblr media
S2E6: Loki chooses to reenact all of Mobius's small gestures of kindness even though they cost precious time: he chooses to hold Victor's glasses (31), he chooses to compliment OB's "not to scale" model (32), he chooses to recite an abbreviated version of his and Mobius's bickering over "who's in the suit?" (33), he chooses to finish Mobius's joke about taking OB's job (34). He chooses to seek out Past Mobius for guidance and comfort (35). He chooses to shake Mobius's hand (36). He chooses to talk Sylvie out of killing HWR (24). He chooses to sacrifice himself to save Sylvie and Mobius (25 / 37, respectively). He chooses to listen (and watch?) to Mobius say, "Let time pass" (38).
Tumblr media
Loki chooses Sylvie: 25
Loki chooses Mobius: 38
If I missed any decision points for either Sylvie or Mobius, let me know and I'll update the meta and counts accordingly.
Ultimately, Loki's sacrifice is for BOTH Mobius AND Sylvie. BOTH ships are important to the narrative and Loki. However, between the two of them, there is only one person who has consistently chosen Loki since S1E1, never rejected Loki and his requests for help, and who has, in turn, unknowingly been chosen by Loki in kind. Need a meta for Mobius’s decision-making? Here it is.

Until The End (Levi x Reader)- Chapter 28
[Forever and Always]
Tumblr media
_____ A/N: Posted on Wattpad (@CLARE_875) but also decided to post here :)
Summary: "You can push me away, but I will still fight by you, and I will still follow you
 until the end."
The ever-so-stoic Levi Ackerman has only ever known the terrors that living in a cruel world could bring. This all changed one fateful day when he encountered [y/n]; a girl renowned for her looks and abnormal speed. As they escape the confines of the Underground together, they soon discover that freedom doesn't come easy in a world full of Titans. As they rise through the ranks, [y/n] becomes known as "Humanity's Angel", a beacon of hope to humanity as she melts the walls Levi had built around his heart. However, she has her secrets too, and a dark past that might just threaten to pull them apart.
The storyline and characters of Attack on Titan do NOT belong to me, but all to Hajime Isayama; however, I do own this story, and all that occurs disparate to that storyline.
[Series Masterlist] [Chapter Twenty-Seven] <--> [Chapter Twenty-Nine] _____
[One year later]
One year had passed since you and the Anti-Marleyan Volunteers arrived back in Paradis. The people within the walls had slowly but surely accepted the information and resources the Volunteers provided. Meanwhile, the Marleyan soldiers onboard ships that had arrived in Paradis had been captured and restrained to cells. However, even some of them had started to see the humanity in those they called the "Island Devils," to the point where the engineers had offered help to us, along with others who provided more support. Even, Niccolo, the man who had been held hostage by Hange when you first arrived, had become a chef introducing foods like seafood to the Scouts, much to the delight of Sasha. Thanks to the combined efforts and knowledge of the Marleyans, the port in Paradis was rebuilt swiftly and powerful innovations such as the guns brought to Paradis had been incorporated into the Scout's training.
Now you sat in between Levi and Hange, surrounded by squad members and those in the Garrison and Military police, opposite your newfound guests. You had all just welcomed Paradis's first outside visitor with the completion of the port. Paradis Island's sole friendly nation, Hizuru, and its Special Envoy, Kiyomizu Azumabito. Earlier, it was found that Mikasa was actually a descendant of the son of the Shogun the Azumabitos had descended from. He had been on friendly terms with King Fritz and often went to Paradis, but after the Great Titan War the nation of Hizuru had been defeated and in disarray, the child of the Shogunate was left behind on the island. Mikasa was the lost descendant of their nation's ruler, the hope of Hizuru according to the woman, Kiyomizu.
"It's a historic day for both our nations," Kiyomizu speaks up from opposite the table looking to you all. "Today is only possible thanks to the one who brought us together, Zeke Jaeger. After meeting with him in secret we agreed to an arrangement under the condition we were able to meet Lady Mikasa." There is a slight pause as the woman maintains an unlikeable expression, a forced smile before she continues. "Zeke Jaeger said if we cooperate with him, our nation may just helm an industry that restores it to its former glory. And yet, he hasn't even prospected your reserves. But a resource like that in this age of modernization would be worth its weight in jewels and treasure." You watch as she swipes her tongue on her lower lip and feel yourself frown.
So that was what they were after, the Iceburst Stone the Survey Corps use to fuel your ODM gear, a resource worth an abundance of wealth it seems. You remember Yelena's words from earlier, she had said the talk would go well since the Azumabitos are money grubbers, but you never expected the blatant display of greed before you. But you also weren't surprised. Unless money was involved, there was not much worth the risk of travelling to Paradis Island. "And? What exactly is the arrangement you have with Zeke Jaeger?" Historia speaks up from the head of the table, eyeing the woman carefully. "As you know, Zeke Jaeger has a secret plan in mind," Kiyomizu says in reply as you feel your stomach churn at the mention of his "oh-so-secret plan".
"To achieve it, Hizuru's cooperation is needed," Kiyomizu continues, before providing us with several papers as Hange passes them between us. "Here are his three points to protect Paradis from the rumbling. The first is a test run of the rumbling, to release a sample of its power and show the world its devastation. Next is Hizuru's cooperation. Your military must be strengthened until the use of the rumbling isn't necessary. Lastly, the Founding Titan and a Titan with royal blood must be passed down. That's the third point." You freeze at the final point looking at the page with trembling hands. "Zeke will pass on the Beast Titan to someone of royal blood. Until their 13-year term ends, they must bear as many kids as possible." You suddenly feel ill at the prospect.
Meanwhile, Hange is in a spur of thought as they read and listen to the demands made. Even if weaponry advances, the rumbling itself is powerful. Until we get rid of it, inheriting Titans will continue for generations to come. Is it right for us to push this problem on our descendants to save ourselves now? Of course not... But... Hange's train of thought is interrupted as Historia speaks up once more. "Very well. I will inherit the Beast Titan." You quickly interrupt not liking the way the grim faces look to her as though relenting that this is the only solution to our state of war. "Wait Historia, if they need someone of royal blood you know I-" But you're cut off by Historia's voice again as Levi tenses at the implication behind your words. "No, Captain [y/n]. Though you indeed have royal blood, you are also a [l/n]. We still don't know what the consequences will be if you were to transform into a Titan. No, it is too delicate to experiment in that manner... I will inherit the Beast Titan... As long as the rumbling is tied to our survival."
You are about to voice a retort once again, if this were to happen Historia would be dealt such a short life and only be made to birth children for the most of it. If you could save her from that fate, you would do anything, even take her place. Levi tries discreetly to meet your gaze sharply as though pleading with you to stay silent. Zeke... what were you planning? But you are ultimately unable to say or do anything as Eren rises to his feet. "Historia... After years of getting trampled on, now we've gotta breed like livestock? If that's the price of getting to live, Zeke Jaeger can take his damn plan and shove it!" Eren's face contorts in his anger as the rest of us look at him, some in surprise, some silently praying he would just sit back down. "It's too dangerous to gamble on having the rumbling. We need to spend our time exploring what other options are available to us."
That was the end of the meeting, to say the least. Kiyomizu was of course deterred by the emerald-eyed man, though he helped to prevent an imminent fate for Historia. However, in the aftermath Eren had continued to spill words in his irritation that made you see that he would likely not ever use Historia, or even you. It made you think back to your abduction. Zeke shouldn’t have feared Eren finding out about your heritage or the blood that flowed through you. Not when he seemed so adamant on not “using” his allies. He seemed more distant these days, as though his eyes were locked on another goal none of us could see.
.....
[Several Months Later]
You were atop [h/n] galloping into the empty fields that surrounded you. You remember the joy you had felt when you saw her again. Levi told you he had put it upon himself to look after her along with his horse, but she had seemed to be in a state of constant depression, barely letting anyone but him brush her or take her out of the stables. In the instant she saw you she had stood on her hooves almost trampling you over. You had to steady and calm her down before holding her into an embrace. She had missed you and you had missed her. You let out a breathless laugh as you observe the clear landscape before you. You were within Wall Maria, gifted with a rare day off and so you took the opportunity to take [h/n] out for a ride among the forests within the walls. You felt a sense of freedom in the open grasslands looking to the sky and patting your horse gently as she turned and neighed happily.
You suddenly hear the gallop of a horse approaching as you turn and smile at a familiar sight. It was Levi, atop his black stallion and approaching you. He was in his casual clothes, a loose long-sleeve shirt and a pair of dark pants. You couldn't help but admire him, even from a distance. "Took you long enough, Levi, I thought you weren't coming," you tease as you turn fully to face him as he slows approaching you. He is about to retort but takes a moment to gaze at your figure. You were in casual clothes as well, clad in flowy pants and a tight-fitted top, a flower pinned on your ear against your [h/c] hair. You watch as he stays silent before letting out a little laugh and waving a free hand in front of his face. "Earth to Levi?" you say, still in a teasing tone, as he finally breaks free of whatever trance he is in.
He looks at your smile and he can't help the soft look from brimming in his eyes as he meets yours, before he turns his horse in the direction of a nearby forest. "Come on, I want to show you something," he says as you raise your eyebrows curiously, Levi not really being one to be spontaneous. You follow him quietly before pulling [h/n] to his side, the both of you leading your horses upon the trail. "What's this, a surprise?" you ask, a smile evident in your voice. "Tch," Levi hides his face as he looks to the side, "just shut up and follow." You let out a laugh rolling your eyes as the both of you continue, silently admiring the beauty of the tranquil trees, and embracing the fleeting but serene feeling of peace.
Your voices mingle as birds chirp up ahead talking and laughing about the events of the day and the antics of the squad. You purposely left out darker more worrisome topics for another day; just pretending everything was normal for once. And Levi imagined it, that it was a normal day and the two of you lived normal lives, and he was just taking his beautiful partner on a date like a normal couple would, just for the day. He admired the way you were talking rapidly about Sasha, how you both had an eating contest the other day, and despite your speed she had beaten you somehow. You talk about how you had helped Mikasa with her skills with the gun and sparred with her, your speed and her Ackerman strength making it quite the exciting battle; you've grown fond of the young woman.
You talk about Hange and Armin and the new train tracks they were building throughout Paradis; it was hard to contain their excitement over the project these days. You talked about how you had gone with Jean and Connie to meet people from Hizuru who had brought you more supplies the other day, then how the three of you had gone to the markets and had a fun day exploring what was to offer. Levi simply smiled softly as he became enveloped in the joy you emitted, watching the way your hair glistened under the afternoon sun, admiring the way your eyes lit up. You suddenly stop rambling, watching the way Levi's eyes watch your figure, heat rising in your cheeks. "Ah, sorry, was I talking too much?" You ask as Levi shakes his head observing your sudden shyness with amusement. "Come on," he says before dismounting his horse and lending you a hand as you get off yours, securing them to nearby trees. "It's not far now."
Levi pulls back branches as you now follow him on foot, the two of you walking for only a few minutes before Levi stops and puts your hand in his, pulling you into an opening among the trees. You stop and look up, staring in shock. It was a meadow of flowers, bright and colourful, swaying in the breeze. It's one of the most beautiful sights you have ever seen. It was like an enchanting oasis lulling like waves, accompanied by the peaceful rustle of the breeze. It was like a haven of peace in a treacherous world. "This was one of my favourite places to go before the shitty Titans broke through the walls," Levi speaks up from next to you as you look at him, warm rays of light shining on his face as he has a nostalgic look in his eyes. "Glad to see the damn things didn't trample everything."
You smile as you walk forward carefully making your way through the meadow as Levi follows you. "So, this is where you used to disappear to," you say looking over your shoulder and remembering the times he was sometimes nowhere to be found after a rough mission, especially in the earlier years of you both being Scouts. He nods silently as you both find yourself in the middle of the small but beautiful sanctuary. You turn to him fully now as you caress his face gently, before kissing his cheek. "Thank you for showing me this." You see a slight pink hue rise in his cheeks as he mumbles something in irritation, only causing you to smile at the sight once again.
The rest of the afternoon consists of the two of you bringing out a blanket that was strapped to your horse, sitting on it and talking in the meadow. You had also packed some things from a nearby bakery, along with a tumbler full of warm tea you'd prepared. You make flower crowns, silently weaving flowers and putting one on Levi's head, laughing at the juxtaposition of his dark expression under such an adorable sight. You sip your tea and eat your baked goods in the sereness of the little oasis, joyful and content in the presence of each other. You both lie down and look at the sky, reminiscing of the past when you would lie down on the rooves of the Underground, only met with the confines that held you there. Time passes and the sun slowly starts to go down, but just before the sun sets and just as the sky starts to take on an orange hue, Levi speaks up from next to you, a rare hint of nerves evident in his voice.
"[y/n]..."
You had been sitting and gazing at the sky, marvelling at the way the clouds merged and escaped from each other, content in the silence. At Levi's words, however, you turn to your right, only for your eyes to widen and your heart to hammer erratically against your chest. You see Levi, your beloved, on one knee and looking at you, a wild blush on his cheeks. Your eyes enlarge at his stance and the small black box in his hand, which he slowly starts open, revealing its contents to you. The ring was beautiful. A delicate band, with a precious diamond in the middle of it, small blue sapphires on either side. "It was my mother’s..." Levi says softly, as he looks to your quiet and shocked face. "We never sold it, no matter how rough it got. She said to give it to someone when I feel loved, and I feel the same love in return... I never believed in such superficial things... until you."
Tears start to brim in your eyes, as Levi feels his heart quicken at the sight. "[y/n]... you know I'm not good with these shitty words, and I know I'm not good at showing you my shitty emotions sometimes... but I know I love you. I know I'll spend every day of my life fighting for you, protecting you, and making sure you understand that." He gazes at you as your tears slowly start to escape your eyes. Levi's face is determined. "I feel like I've loved you all my life... ever since I saw you that day, ever since you handed me that apple in the streets, I knew. Please, will you give me the honour, of being mine
so I can love you, until the end?" His eyes gleam under the setting light of the sun. The flowers wave and dance in the wind, and the peaceful silence takes over as you look at the man in front of you. He fights to keep his emotions at bay, adoration etched on every feature of his face, just like yours.
You can't help it when you jump into his arms, embracing his warmth and scent in your joy and nodding before pulling away. "Yes, Levi," you say, faces inches apart, ring clutched in one hand as he holds you with the other. "Yes." You watch as his face upturns into the most brilliant smile you have ever seen, the sky painting beautiful colours as the sun slowly starts to set. He leans forward bringing you close as he kisses you passionately and so lovingly, you returning the kiss with as much fervour as you can, hearts thrumming. When he pulls away, he goes to remove the ring from the box in his grasp and he lifts your left hand in his. He then, pushes the beautiful ring onto your ring finger, lifting your hand and kissing it softly. You feel the heat rise to your cheeks at his motions as he looks up to you and pulls you in for another kiss.
.....
When the day of your wedding comes, it is short, simple and sweet.
You are adorned in a simple but beautiful white dress, flowers embellishing your hair, and the light from the warm sun seems to envelop your glowing form, making you look like an enchanted goddess. Levi wore a black suit and tie, hands trembling with nerves, his dark eyes showing a rare glimpse of his vulnerability to the limited guests present. Only Hange, your squad members, Historia, and funnily, your two horses are present in the small but beautifully decorated meadow where you are to be wed. When you walk down the aisle, you only see the utter awe on Levi's face at your ethereal beauty; he could watch you forever as you approach him in the quiet of the secluded forests. You are gorgeous, radiant, and the embodiment of all that brings him joy; you look like an angel.
The Squad members you pass also look at you in utter wonderment as the sun reflects your white dress and flickers on the petals of the flowers in your hair, providing a halo of light that surrounds you. Though some of them watched in slight sadness at the sight of the most beautiful woman being vowed to another man, they were mostly filled with utter joy. They had never seen Captain Levi in a state of such utter happiness, nor had they seen him so content, the usually serious and dark glare of his features lost in your presence. It had not only been today. They had noticed from the beginning, how you being by Levi's side brought out a gentleness and softness they could never have thought to see from the man. They had also seen your comfort in Levi's presence. He obviously provided you a sense of safety and they saw the utter bliss on your features whenever you talk quietly and pretend to be the only two people in the world; the two of you were truly made for the other.
Levi reaches out a hand to you and you smile at his gesture, letting him pull you gently towards him. Your wide grin is untameable and you see the gentle smile on the man in front of you; the man you adore with every ounce of your heart. Hange now speaks, as they stand next to the both of you. You had asked them to officiate your small wedding, and despite their initial loss of composure in their utter excitement and joy, they now had a serene expression on their face as they spoke their introductory words. They were content too to see their two best friends finally married. It had been torture seeing what your absence had done to Levi, it had been obvious the love the both of you had shared, even before Hange had met you. It was blissful to have such a pleasant occasion amongst the uncertainty in the world, because your love was certain, and so was his.
Hange now swiftly moves on to the vows, which had been kept simple as you and Levi preferred to keep truer declarations of love private and to yourselves. "Do you Levi, take [y/n] to be your lawfully wedded wife, to love her and to honour her, in sickness and in health, until the end?" Levi looks to you, the woman he has loved for all this time, now in front of him, waiting to be bound in the love you both shared. You give him everything a man could ever need. You know all the right words to say when he needs to hear them. You know every crease on his face and every emotion written in his eyes. You are everything to him. He meets your gaze, emotions rising as he tries to stifle them, before softly saying, "I do." He then slips his mother's ring, now onto your right hand.
Hange smiles at the sight, feeling their tears brim their eyes before they continue. "Do you [y/n], take Levi to be your lawfully wedded husband, to love him and honour him, in sickness and in health, until the end?" You look at the man in front of you, silent tears pouring from your eyes. This was the man who saved you so long ago, the man who continues to save you every day without him even knowing. He gives you hope, comfort, safety, love... all you could ever need. You watch his loving eyes look at you as you nod your head, "I do." You slip on Levi's ring on his finger, it is a simple band with a strip of crushed blue sapphires to match your ring.
"By the authority vested in me, as the Commander of the Scout Regiment, I now pronounce you husband and wife." You see Levi's eyes filled with utter joy before he turns to the squad members looking on in anticipation with a glare. You laugh at his attempts to divert their attention, some of them, namely Eren, Armin, Connie and Jean, actually turning away. You roll your eyes but quickly pull him in by his suit as he caresses the back of your head gently, meeting in a brief but loving kiss before pulling apart. When you do, the both of you look at the other in silent but obvious happiness. You were married. The cheers of the squad reach the air as Hange starts leaping in their joy, your horses looking at you all confusedly. The wind flows against your beautiful dress and Levi squeezes your hand softly; it was a perfect day.
.....
When you all returned to Scout headquarters many approached you in congratulations much to Levi’s irritation, but every glance at you made him forget any of the annoyance he felt as more people came to you. As time passed and the sun was lost to the horizon, and after the Scouts had enjoyed a feast, just for the occasion, Levi finally led you to your shared chambers. The perfect day ended with a perfect night, the both of you finally having a moment alone. Neither you nor Levi can keep your hands off the other. It starts with a feverish kiss that turns into so much more; you both love each other and embrace each other until the day brings the morrow to you.

murderers in Yellowstone AU
This is AU where four people the mann co Brothers Governor jules Archibald and the administrator all do some illegal activity near Yellowstone. They all think they can get away with it like the middle of nowhere Nevada or in New Mexico like they have been doing in the gravel Wars this is the North where the supernatural entities coming from Europe and other parts of the world descending upon North and South America actually run shit.
in turn pisses off a bunch of people from red and blue team and the Elder Birch and bog witch. The Elder Birch is the grandmother to the bogwich and the red and blue medics. The bog witch is the Medics cousin.
so I am also saying that the red sniper the blue Scout and the blue medic are all in a relationship also i do have the fic out it is called Ai vist lo lop, lo rainard, la lĂšbre.
The title is from a old Occitan Folk song and some sources for the meaning of this song believe the wolf, the fox, the hare in this song represented the King, Lord and Church, all authorities who collected taxes – leaving nothing for the peasants. The wolf in this case is the Mann co Brothers the fox is the governor jules Archibald and their hair is the administrator.
Mat is a half drow since i headcanon in the more rural drow sound more like Australians because the Australia we're also outcasted from the British Empire and have an affinity for spiders just like drow. Mitch is half bird Folk and half human but just make it a silkie and instead of a swan make it an emu, I feel spicy today.
also Matt has the personality of a cassowary outside of his friend group. Also he is very much half wood elf as well he doesn't make a full Elf cuz drow and what else are two different things
Jeremy is related to red spy but he was a more present Father Figure even if half the time it was just gifts and letters sent also pictures so at least he knows what his dad looks like.
Child support was given because jean can't be there for the threat of his family's safety. Jeremy's mother is a hqlf orc but not human but with a Satyr and is the sweetest thing. Jeremy got some insecurity cuz it's not as jacked as his mom but more build like his dad.
Wojtek is half Goliath that's never brought up. Jane doe is still a tiefling and Robert is still warforged
Heavy- misha(red) Wojtek (blu)
Pryo- pryo (red) mary (blu)
Spy-Jean (red) Jack (blu)
Sniper- mat (red) mitch (blu)
Scout- sammy (red) Jeremy (blu)
Medic - ludwig hansburg (red), Herbert (blu)
Demoman- Tallinn (red) tavish (blu)
Soldier- jane doe (red) david (blu)
Anais is here but she's off visiting family and she's not married to Ludwig in this AU
Tumblr media
(The Elder Birch is this character they also go by the great leshie the Elder Aspen and the sketch was drawn by a friend of mine I just did Art you see above.)
So this AU with red and blue medics being being maned wolves firbolg and gnoll combined, red engineer being a war forged red Soldier being a tiefling. The murders in Yellowstone AU is essentially a D&D crossed with tf2 with hints of critical role in it cuz they use things in the D&D handbook and also I can't help myself. Also this has a bit of Emesis Blue. Specifically when it comes to the problems with the respawn machine it is a very specific type of mineral which I have directly snatched from critical role called residuum. it's like that one metal that was all used up in the seven comic. But you see you need special authorization to get this material because the last time there wasn't a bunch of terrible crap happened and a bunch of corrupt people seized power also the guy with like 11 phds of course has authorization because he may be a little crazy but he certainly can handle a very dangerous reactive material also he has no desire to use it to further the human race of multiple different humanoid races and he just wants it for his tinkering.
another reason why specialized authorization needs to be given because it is a highly reactive and dangerous mineral which does not behave well with the human body or anybody. it's best to use as a power conduit like electricity or any type of power not humanoid experimentation.
This is different from the Au called Bones and poppies which has Jane Doe Robert Houston being the adoptive parents to the two Medics though their dnd races are the same.
It's just the snipers are different and the blue Scout is Jeremy and is a different D&D race.
So essentially leshies are mythological creatures from Russian folklore and they're essentially nature gods and spirits that will leave alone essentially but if you fuck shit up in their homes they will come after you.
the reason why the bog witch which is like a combination between my own character the bog witch and caduceus clay from D&D and the Elder Birch in Yellowstone is because there is this place called the fog Forest which surrounds me the entirety of the park and essentially the bog witch and the Elder Birch are like warlock patrons or the gods to the acolytes that are at the park rangers
The fog Forest is essentially the Fae wilds bleeding into this part of the Mortal plane material plane actually or in other words the other world where the other folk come from.
The bog witch is a mini boss compared to the Elder birch.
==
this all started because four people got power hungry and thought hey we're going to mess around with loss that were set in place for some boring reason and essentially getting their butts kicked and their poor decisions coming up with terrible consequences and also because the entirety of the gravel wars happened because the Mann co brothers were Petty enough not to get lawyers and yet involving a bunch of their people that work underneath them like come on get some lawyers that actually does become a plot point in the actual fic.

Note
Because i have been wanting to redesign the dolls I want to know how you interpret them... Who are your favorites.... Do you have any thoughts about how they interact with each other/other characters....
My favorite is Decapre she's my daughter who hates everyone and wants to kill people forever
EHEHEHE
(Kind of a long post, sorry in advance lmfaooo.)
So so so so so, first of all, sorry because a lot of my stuff to do with them runs on an AU timeline, although it doesn't diverge too much after about 1995-1997 and is just little tidbits of info (unless you're looking at Dollhaus lol).
Second of all,,, my faves tend to go on a bit of a rotation, like fixations within fixations, but the whole list is Juni, Enero, Xiayu, Jianyu and Noembelu (Decapre is always on there also but she hasn't had a proper rotation in about 2 years now) so hopefully that answers that question đŸ”„
3rd, in terms of interpretations, there's been a running gag for about a year and a bit between me and a few friends that Enero and Jianyu have a painfully awkward frenemy thing going on. They hate each other and love each other at the exact same time and they will bicker to no end. Enero thinks Jianyu's annoying and Jianyu thinks Enero is a control-freak bitch (which comes as a side-effect of her wanting to keep the order in the Dolls going after Killer Bee was presumed dead/gone). But nonetheless, they care for each other and usually it's just because bickering is a part of the daily morning routine, after that they'll be like bonded cats the rest of the day.
Xiayu is definitely somewhere on the autism spectrum in my mind and her special interest is most definitely Chinese Opera, with a few other hyperfixations like tigers dotted about the place. She has quite bad anxiety which tends to flare up, and isn't particularly helped by her more brash sister's tendency to cause a ruckus wherever she goes. She most definitely prefers training on her own but if studying kung-fu has taught her anything, it's that you always need another person to practise with. Which is where dear Noe comes in.
My interpretation of Noe is that she seems to be a magnet for the girlies who aren't particularly social. She's very gentle and is quite close to MÀrz (who I'll talk about soon) and generally spends her free time working on solo projects. She usually had either Xiayu or MÀrz tucked under her arm whilst working if either of them wanted somewhere quiet to chill for a bit. All three can get overwhelmed quite quickly so they found comfort in one another and freedom to express themselves. She's a big fan of mechanisms and enjoys engineering (if Shadaloo hadn't gotten in the way, she would've likely pursued either agriculture or engineering as a career) and often combines her interests to make her work more efficient, especially during time periods where they had a lot of work to do. However, the Löwenzahn girlies are also quite fond of her, so they often took care of her garden whilst she wasn't there, against their Commanders wills lol.
Now, MĂ€rz is kind of at the bottom of the pecking order (with Enero at the top) and typically receives the tail-end of a lot of Enero's anger, whether on purpose or not. She's already quite nervous and skittish so this does not tend to help her at all. Typically her daily antics include using the site Internet to browse yaoi fics, scripting her own games and rushing to complete the next database update within the last 30 minutes of the deadline, but she gets the job done and very well at that. She's got quite a bit of imposter syndrome and doesn't usually respond well to praise out of fear it's rooted in sarcasm, which she either doesn't detect well or detects too well.
Shes very much like a cheetah in the social regard and would have likely required quite a bit of support had Shadaloo not taken her, although it is probably caused by such, but not totally.
Going back to Xiayu, her relationship with Jianyu is a bit strained. With Jianyu often being tense and often annoyed, Xiayu is often playing mediator and has been made her sisters honorary parole officer if that makes sense. She feels she lacks a lot of her already constrained freedom due to her sister's inability to keep herself out of trouble, which does make her resent her a little bit. This is an issue that crops up a lot within the group although under different circumstances. For Xiayu, it's because the others forced the role onto her and often times playing into getting her twin riled up, whether they realise it or not.
A quick side note: a lot of these problems are caused by a multitude of difficulties, a lot of the tense emotions and tendency to harm one another comes from struggling to cope with their situations as they've never had an outlet for. It's reflected I how they talk to one another (often quite harshly and sometimes even cruelly), how they act etc.
Very little of the time is the malice because they genuinely don't like somebody, because they're all just a clowder of kittens that haven't had the chance to grow and have been terrorised for ages by a nasty fox.
Now, onto their fighting styles. I highly doubt all of them actually use the same styles, each of them most definitely has a unique set and the default styles were likely either a time thing or their designers giving up (lol).
Enero knows quite a bit (coming from her posher than posh background), and was taught martial arts from a young age, meaning that for a lot of people (due to her excessive training time) she can essentially mirror them, although if she can't she'll use a fusion. (The mirroring idea came from a move I designed like a few years ago now: Echolalia. It essentially reflects the damage given to her at either 50/75% or 100% depending on how quickly the input is done, which is gonna be complicated to implement lmfaooo)
Fevi doesn't know any martial arts outside of limited moves she's taken on from action films, so she often relies on brute force (and bullets) to get her ass through. Sagat kind of stood there and shook his head for a little bit after he realised but didn't make an attempt to get rid of her because he liked the raging fire that never seemed to leave her expression. (He would later suggest that they put her on meds for her anger issues.)
MĂ€rz and Aprile don't do too much fighting (which contexualises my dear MĂ€rz getting her ass handed to her every fucking chapter) and generally rely on external forces or long-distance attacks to do damage. (Such as drone strikes or bioweaponry.)
Satsuki is trained in Kendo, but she switched styles to Ninjutsu-inspired tactics after bring sent on an espionage mission with Santamu. Not much to say beyond that.
Juni and Juli share a fighting style that isn't particularly defined and often relies on having the other person there for ultimate damage (as seen in Dramatic Battle Mode for A3.)
Santamu used to do javelin in school (it's one of her favourite sports, her other one is rounders.), and took influence from that, although she now focuses primarily on close quarters.
Jianyu and Xiayu speak for themselves, bojutsu/kung-fu-inspired stuff. I personally believe Xiayu does Wing Chun (Wong Sheung Leung) because that's the martial art I do lolzies. Somebody in this group has to experience the dread of having to get a licence to fight in the UFC lmfaooo. (You may actually have to be registered/insured with this martial art if you go into security because of how dangerous it can be lol.)
Noembelu taught herself Systema somehow and can now backflip whilst throwing a hatchet.
Decapre is the only one I believe exclusively practises Shadaloo Forces styles, as she likely hasn't had much exposure to the outside world beyond missions.
On my own timeline, there's two idiots called Anne and Bess (AS-Q is also involved but she'll get her own post eventually hehe). Anne and Bess are canon to the Cammy History Novels, which are a huge part of my interest and aren't canon to the main universe. However, it is speculated they were the uncredited base line for the Dolls.
A big part of their characters is that they are named after saints. Bison got an idea in the late 70's to utilise religion to get more people enrolled into the forces and came across an idea for an all-female support squadron (not a harem, like the original Japanese text seems to imply). He liked the idea a bit too much because around 1982, he took Bess, who was a 14-year old Greek Orthodox girl living in Crete at the time and converted her to Catholicism. He decided he liked the name she already had (he was already into the idea of naming them after Saints, Bess being Elizabeth) and kept it as it was.
After a while of training, he spun a wheel, selected a country and sent Bess off to Ireland to scout out a potential new member.
She spotted Anne (who was 14 in 1984) and began to learn about her from the sidelines. She was incredibly careful to not startle or scare her as she felt terribly guilty already and was only caught out after Anne ran away from home (after being found out as a lesbian). Anne was already Catholic so Bess proposed she take her to the Christian homeless shelter/corporation she works at. Big red flag immediately, yet Anne complies, because frankly, at this stage, she has nothing to lose.
Over the course of a few months, Anne is indoctrinated into Shadaloo, starts an official relationship with Bess (allegedly in secret) and is oftentimes given experimental drugs for her "migranes", which are actually the drug LO-95, more on that in a different post lol.
Bess and Anne's relationship was painfully complex and was often times not healthy, but they tried nonetheless. Elizabeth often felt really really guilty for getting her into the mess that she was and wasn't really against letting Anne murder her when the time came for her to be expunged from the systems.
Anne, now facing bouts of psychosis, identity switches and struggling with numerous addictions, is cast out for the final time with the mission to kill Cammy White, after Vega failed to do so around Alpha 3. The other Dolls are around at this point and all named after saints (the thing Bison was actually excited to do).
There's a list I'll attach at the bottom with their correlating names.
I could probably continue this but I feel this is an appropriate place to end it. If you'd like specific characters feel free to ask at any time! 🙇
Much love, thank you for asking! 🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑
Tumblr media
Here's the list, old revision 1. Some things need to be changed and/or edited. Satsuki and Santamu are getting names reassigned soon enough.

Umineko Names - Swapped Ushiromiya's Edition
In my previous post regarding the 'kira kira' name that is Ushiromiya Battler and how his name is derived from kanji meaning rather than reading, I mentioned an old post where I had made a name for Fem! Battler - with kanji included to boot.
Mentioned in that post was the fact that I had settled on names for the rest of the Ushiromiya cast as well (and subsequently lost the kanji because I wrote it on paper).
So naturally, I went on a hunt for Kanji I could use to spell out the names of the genderbent (or closeted) Ushiromiya clan. forgive me if the wacky kanji is wrong, I have search engines, chocolate ice cream, and dreams keeping me going.
In canon, the name of an Ushiromiya Family member can be read one of two ways.
The meaning of the kanji translates into a foreign word ("Battler") regardless of how they are read, or, the various readings of the kanji, regardless of their meaning, sound out the name of the character (Everyone else in Battler's family).
For a genderbent AU from Kinzo downwards, I kind of smooshed the two together. Fem! Battler's the only one whose name is so out-there in its writing that it's hard to guess what it is beforehand, but I liked the idea of the kanji still holding special meaning - and kind of went on a hunt for kanji with meaning fitting for each character/their role in the storyline.
(also affected partially by Fem! Kinzo's mindset at the time of their births, especially regarding the adults. This turned into a family dynamics post, oops).
Kinzo - Ushiromiya Kina (ćłä»Łćźź 金那)
Katakana: キナ Hiragana: きăȘ
金: Money/Gold 那: What/Beautiful
The reading of 那 as beautiful is a more archaic translation of the kanji from the original Chinese rather than Japanese. It's more commonly used to mean 'what' today. However, it was chosen to mean 'beautiful' in regards to Kina's name.
Mostly derived from headcanon, as a young girl in the Ushiromiya family, even from an offshoot of a branch family, Kina's father wanted her to marry into a good family. Though nowhere near as affluent as the head house, they were of the upper middle-class, and he wanted her to marry well in the future so as to be well-supported.
In his and his wife's biased opinion, Kina was also the prettiest baby in existence - so, as to bring in both good fortune and as a testament to their first and only child, they gave her a name that would mean Golden Beauty - or more literally, Beautiful Gold.
Later on, during the Ushiromiya Revival of the 1950's, Kina's name would be more fitting than ever and gave rise to her nickname among upper society and even some newspapers on the streets - The Golden Witch, capable of creating immense wealth from nothing.
The legend of her owning ten tons of gold hidden away somewhere cemented it.
(In a Fem! Kinzo AU, depending on whether or not Beatrice is genderbent, the term Golden Witch otherwise might not be used - not accounting for Fem! Battler literally a generation down the line. Also, it's a tie to Kinzo's canon alias for magic and grimoires - Goldsmith).
Kina is a fairly standard Japanese name and the spelling isn't anything too a-typical, so her name - compared to her descendants -gets to be pretty normal.
Krauss - Ushiromiya Kristine (ćłä»Łćźź è‹Šé›ąćŽ‡æ€ż)
Katakana: クăƒȘă‚čăƒăƒŒăƒŒ / クăƒȘă‚čăƒ†ă‚ŁăƒŒăƒł Hiragana: くりすちね / ăă‚Šă™ăĄăƒŒă‚“
苊: Suffering/Hardship/Bitter (on'yomi -く/ ク) 雱: Separated, Detach, Distant (on'yomi - り/ ăƒȘ) 殇: Worship, Revere, Adore, Noble, Lofty (on'yomi -す/ ă‚č) æ€ż: Camellia (on'yomi -ちん/チン)
Fem! Krauss...kind of got saddled with a terrible name, regarding the kanji used. Born in the early 1930's, several years after her parents marriage (and subsequent vitriol from the elders in regards to a lack of heirs), the fact that Kristine was a girl in the very patriarchal Ushiromiya family was a massive disappointment.
Similarly to Kinzo in canon, Kina...doesn't have much of a connection, or affection, towards her children. It's a combination of grief and trauma, and possibly some sort of postpartum disorder (Kinzo's history mental health is questionable at best, and usually non-existent in the VN - not counting the total wipeout of his extended family, forced headship, forced marriage, etc).
For Kina, her first child is...an obligation. A painful obligation she'd carried in her for nine months, had abuse hurled at her shoulders due to the lack of a child for several years. She doesn't feel...any connection to the baby, almost like she's not even real.
(In canon, Kinzo very much relegates his marriage and the birth of his children to the duties of the family head - and I've always sort of read this as a dissociative, depressive state throughout that period of time. Kinzo is terrible, and depression is no excuse, but man oh man do I wish he'd gotten help when he'd needed it
Like. This man had/has some serious suicidal ideation going on - see 1944 when he enrolled in the army to try and die honorably on the battlefield).
However, the girl was an Ushiromiya. Part of their honorable, noble family her father had held in high regard - however much honor was worth to the surviving elders. The first-born child of the Family Head.
Kristine's name would bear the mark of Kina's suffering, her hardship in waiting and bearing a child. It would also be a mark of the pitiful girl future, daughter to a house of fallen wealth and falling prospects, who would no doubt be smothered under society, under the elders, as Kina was. But fallen wealth was wealth, distant and noble as Kina was to her child.
The last kanji in Kristine's name, meaning Camellia, was chosen for the meaning of the flower in Hanakotoba.
White camellias represented waiting, yellow represented longing. Fresh, red camellias symbolized love just the same as a red rose.
...wilted camellias came to represent a noble, graceful death with how cleaning the head of the full bloom dropped itself.
What better flower was there to represent the daughter of a fallen family, fallen fortunes, incapable of ever inheriting the family name?
What better flower than to represent any hope of a divorce between Kina and her husband, so even that last lingering tie which bound her to earth was severed?
(In Japan, infertility in regards to the wife bearing children was grounds for a divorce. In regards to Kina, here she doesn't romantically love her spouse - if anything, she pities him due to how otherwise indifferent she is as an unconscious coping mechanism + the elders' abuse of them both. Also, I think Kinzo's wife in canon at least cared for him (considering her upset at considering the idea of him cheating), so Kina has enough awareness that if she committed suicide while married to him, it would hurt).
This is just hypotheticals regarding why Kina would select this kanji - I think usually, when kanji is used to spell a name that it’s dependent less on meaning and just sound, so it’s also possible that she would have just chosen at random.
Because I chose these based on the character of the characters.
The kanji of Kristine's name also has meaning for her character in as she grows up. As a woman, she's different from Krauss in canon in that, she wasn't raised with the expectation of becoming Kina's heir or head of the family - she was raised to be married off and have kids (which Kina later inverts by having M! Natsuhi marry into the Ushiromiya Register for whatever reason).
She doesn't have the 'elevated' status of first-born son, but she is still the eldest - and when a certain younger brother derides her about her status as a woman, she weaponizes that right back at him, especially after her marriage.
A bit like Eva in canon, really - except she becomes more smug, similar to her canon counterpart, following her marriage as Kina did not force her to marry out of the family register (not to mention this is after the fact that Kina, a woman, revived the Ushiromiya Family even if it were her husband who was the official head).
Also, her spouse (Natsu, in this case) would be of a noble family even if the social class itself was abolished under the GHQ. So she could be considered the wife of a noblewoman - hence, kanji for noble/revere, etc.
She holds her reputation as the first-born of the Ushiromiya's very seriously, as well as the one who followed in their mother's steps of retaining their birth family name (It's as good as an indicator their mother intended for her to be the successor, rather than her younger brother).
The kanji for bitter/suffering/hardship is just...can be tied to multiple events in Kristine's life. Firstly, abuse from the family elders as she was not a son who could inherit. Abuse from Kina, and potentially her father (we know literally nothing about the mom in canon). Later, the birth of her younger brother meaning the elders have a golden child to praise and mold as they wished, leaving her in the dust. So much misogyny in the Ushiromiya Household, so much toxicity - both toxic femininity and toxic masculinity.
Later, this also regards her suffering in trying to bear a child. In canon, in took Krauss and Natsuhi roughly twelve years to have Jessica. Kristine would be under that self-same pressure to have a child.
Plus, regarding the man from 19 years ago - Kristine would be the one entrusted with a baby, not Natsuhi. So that also completely alters the cliff incident.
The kanji for separated and distant is because Kristine, as a character is distant - from her husband, from her son, from her siblings because of both her mindset as the eldest, and the meaning of high wealth/social status (though, not as intense as either Natsuhi or Eva in canon, for example. Still teaches her son boxing, for one). Kristine, whether she means to or not, creates a level of distance between herself and others - either to put them down (younger siblings) or because her mindset is so juxtaposed to another (ex: Jessica).
Also, the kanji for camellia was chosen because of the irony in the meaning of noble death. In the Question Arcs, Krauss is among the first to die (the six sacrifices chosen by the key) twice - and he's also the second to die in real life outside the gameboard, following Natsuhi. Considering the argument which lead to their deaths was over the gold + the hiding of Kinzo's death - it makes for a rather ignoble death, so there's irony there.
Honestly Kristine’s name is probably the most thought out name regarding why Kina would have selected that in-universe - and also the most explained why I chose out of it. Other decisions are kind of just impulses I have, so the explanations might be bland. Or nonexistent.
Eva - Ushiromiya Evan (ćłä»Łćźź 甔矜暗)
Katakana: スヮァン Hiragana: えゔぁん
ç””: Picture, Drawing, Painting, Sketch (on'yomi - え/ス) 矜: Feathers, Feather, Plumage, Wing (on'yomi - ゔ/ノ, w/dakuten) 暗: Dark, Darkness, shade, grow dark (on'yomi - あん/ケン)
I like the kanji of Eva’s name more than I probably should, because it is just - so damn fitting for her character.
Canonically, more than anyone else in her family except maybe Natsuhi - Eva strives to be worthy of the Ushiromiya Family Headship despite the fact that, in her very patriarchal family, her gender as a woman itself is a ‘barrier’ she can’t pass to reach that vaulted position in the household. Additionally, the symbol of the family, under Kinzo, becomes that of the One-Winged Eagle.
You know what wings have? Feathers.
Regardless of whether or not she is set to inherit the family headship through birth hierarchy, how the Ushiromiya Name bleeds into the rest of her life and affects how she is as a person is key to her character.
Additionally, Eva’s tattoo of the one winged eagle on her arm can equate to a sketch - so I just, really really like the fact that this is the meaning of the kanji of her name. Her desire for the family headship is etched into her character itself, and physically sketched upon her arm.
In a GB AU, M! Eva (Evan) would be the expectant heir in place of his elder sister, Kristine. Officially, even if it was not genuinely meant by the family elders - who were embezzling assets - Evan was the one who would inherit the family name, and revive it to its previous glory.
(Rather than struggling against being ‘inferior’ to her elder brother by gender, in this AU - Evan would be the one who deems himself superior to the rest of his siblings, above his two sisters by gender and age, and his younger brother).
A Phoenix of sorts, and if Kina carefully selected the kanji for his name - perhaps this would sort of be why, feathers of a Phoenix’s wings. (Pretty sure the One-Winged Eagle wasn’t a thing for the Ushiromiya Family until the revival in the ‘50’s).
Kina - Kina would have issues with her son. Because Kina is a woman, by virtue of having a different set of genitals, her son would sit above her - his mother, a woman, even if an Ushiromiya by blood - as a ‘true’ head of the family, within the internal hierarchy.
There’s a sort of bitterness there, for her.
Dark/Darkness often hints toward an evil or corrosive nature at times, or something shadowy and elusive - so Evan’s name could be read as a darkly sketched or faint wing - there’s no stability to his claim of reviving the family, the fortune, no substantiality. It’s just a pretty dream coming from rotten roots (the elders) like a picture.
Now, why I chose this kanji - I kept Eva’s original two Kanji because I already liked their meaning and didn’t feel like hunting down new kanji for the sound. Then I just needed an a/an sound to make Evan. And I found the kanji for darkness.
Going down the route of canon with the Rokkenjima Incident, this also can be taken down the route of all the Culprit! Eva theories - dark sketched wing.
Dark = evil = everyone thinks he murdered his entire family for money.
It could also represent inner darkness, those traumas that all the adult Ushiromiya deal with and inflicted on one another - In this AU, Evan would still have an superiority complex of sorts towards his elder sister. His sister, who should have married out, and did not - and on top of that, his mother married her to the son of a poverty-ridden house who would - all things considered - inherit the headship after Kina’s death.
Why was she given special allotment to remain in the family register, especially as years passed by and she produced no heir for the family name? Not to mention the conflicting feelings of love (for George) and disappointment (regarding George) when he has a child first and it’s a baby girl?
(This stems from early childhood, where at the very least I see Kina as being fairly neglectful towards her kids. Still, however, she was moreso towards Evan - occasionally reaching Kristine feminine crafts, such as preparing tea or needlepoint. Evan, as a boy, had ‘less’ need for her tutelage - so she just didn’t give it. Also, again, Kina’s bitterness towards gender roles and generally, Kinzo’s dissociative state during that time period in general considering both VN and manga)
Then, there’s Rokkenjima and the catbox. And the truth being lost within the darkness of the catbox which is October 4th through 5th 1986, which Evan is one of the only few capable of opening.
(I think I’m so clever).
Rudolf - Ushiromiya Roselle (ćłä»Łćźź ç‹Œäž–ćŒ„)
Katakana: ă‚ă‚»ăƒ« / ăƒăƒŒă‚Œăƒ« Hiragana: ろせる
狌: Wolf (On’yomi - ロォ) 侖: World, Society (On’yomi - セむor ă‚») ćŒ„: Play with/Make sport of (on’yomi - ロォ or ル)
Originally, Fem! Rudolf’s name was going to be Rochelle. However, the name Roselle - which sounds very similar - means ‘Little Rose’ or ‘rose-like’. I liked the idea of choosing this name for Fem! Rudolf instead.
One, it means that Kinzo’s second daughter still has a rose-based name. In canon, that’s Rosa - here, it would be Fem! Rudolf. In the rose garden, the conversation with Kyrie protecting her ‘rose’ could be taken in an entirely new light with genderswapped characters - because Fem! Rudolf = Roselle.
Two, I thought it would be oddly fitting for Rudolf’s womanizing character as a woman. Roses - depending on their color - represent love, represent romance, represent lust - etc. Roses also have thorns. Very sharp thorns used to protect themselves.
Fem! Rudolf would very much still be a womanizing, seductive character. A femme fatale, if you will. She’d be much more careful than Rudolf, however - due to the fact that being promiscuous affect men and women very differently due to gender roles in society (ex: Rudolf could get away with sleeping with several women in comparison to Roselle with several men. It would literally ruin her reputation, where it would only damage his).
The kanji I chose for her name roughly means ‘wolf who plays with society’. Which I also personally interpret as a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
Pretty fitting for the counterpart of a married man in canon who seduces women and cons people out of their money (to the point of driving some to suicide according to Twilight iirc?).
Because she would be a woman who seduces men out of their money, now.
It’s mentioned that originally, when Kinzo or his wife tried to keep the kids from walking into the forest of Rokkenjima, he spread stories of wolves - and Rudolf wanted to pet the wolves, which also was possibly why it changed to the legend of the witch.
Also: Sheep’s & Wolf Puzzle in Banquet. Rudolf was the worst out of Rosa’s older siblings who bullied Rosa, twice as worse as either Krauss and Eva. So - Rudolf = the wolf and Rosa = the sheep when she was younger (pretty sure, in the manga, it was Rudolf who ripped apart her toy rabbit, uu-tan).
(I honestly have no clue at the moment why Kina would have a reason for choosing this specific kanji for Roselle, so there’s that, haha. (TvT). Sorry for lack of anything real interesting here.)
Rosa - Ushiromiya Roland (ćłä»Łćźź 郎ć©Ș澑)
Katakana: ăƒăƒ©ăƒłăƒ‰ Hiragana: ă‚ă‚‰ă‚“ă©
郎: young man (on’yomi - ロォ)
ć©Ș: crave, covet (on’yomi - ラン)
澑: safe, cash box, wife & child (on’yomi -トォ or ド)
HONORABLE MENTION:
搌: same, equal, identical (On’yomi - ドォ)
I honestly don’t know where to start with M! Rosa, Roland, because this man - this man can fit so much trauma in his body, and he can + will pass it down to the next generation, courtesy of his older siblings teachings (Roselle being the absolute worse offender).
He is the youngest of his siblings, and by her own words in canon, just like Rosa, still does not fully feel as though he is an adult - and still is pushed around by his siblings (case in point: Eva and Krauss chiding/mocking her statement of still feeling like a child in the parlor).
Like canon, still has no steady relationship either - with his son or with a romantic partner (answers pending on whether he’s married to Marcello’s mother/divorced and earned custody/she’s dead a la Asumu).
On a most literal level, he is a young man who covets several things - romantic love, wealth, and an equal/higher standing in regards to the people around him - the latter stemming from the abuse his siblings healed up on him, because he was the youngest and his son’s social difficulties, because M! Maria’s behavior reflects back on his parenting (how he perceives it).
(I have no idea if he’d still be in poor financial straits. In canon, Rosa is in debt because her company is not doing particularly well and she co-signed a loan for Maria’s deadbeat of a father who ran off, as far as we’re aware. For all we know, he got murdered and buried in a shallow grave and that’s why he never came back - we don’t know anything else about the man
It’s entirely possible that he might be getting extorted for money from M! Maria’s wife or her family in order to keep custody of his son or something, or he still co-signed some sort of loan, they divorce, etc. buy that would also be why the kanji I chose also can read as safe/cash box).
I don’t really do enough of an analysis of Rosa’s character to really offer much information here for what I chose for Roland’s name, so this is probably kind of really superficial.
(If i ever write a Genderbent AU, i might swap the kanji for wife/child and same/equal as they both read for ‘do’ and the latter is less
in your face about his character.)
Jessica - Ushiromiya Jessie (ćłä»Łćźź 秋槿)
I changed Jessica’s name kanji a little bit. I could have just cut off the last kanji and written it as â€œæœ±ćż—â€ which should have meant crimson ambition, etc - but I found something that I think both Kristine and Natsu would find fitting for the heir of the Ushiromiya Family.
秋: autumn, fall ( On’yomi - ă‚·ăƒ„ă‚Š)
槿: figure, appearance (On’yomi - ă‚·)
1) Jessica was born on August 25th. Her birthday falls very late summer, close to early Autumn (generally, I’ve always seen August as a fall month and didn’t realize it was still summer until recently.).
She is an late summer/early autumn baby. However, the word Autumn/August can also refer to an August Person - someone of a majestic, noble disposition. They are of high social rank, etc.
Which directly ties into the following kanji.
Jessie’s name - rather than being ‘crimson ambition’, is instead read as an Autumn (August) Person. It’s a weighty name to place on a kid’s shoulders, along with all of their extremely heavy expectations.
(Also something about Natsu’s favorite season being fall-)
This says less of Jessie’s character and more of his position as the heir apparent of the Ushiromiya Household.
George - Ushiromiya Georgia (ćłä»Łćźź 揹æČ»çŒ—:)
欱: young lady, lass, girl, miss, daughter (On - ゾョォ)
æČ»: reign, rule over, be at peace, subdue, cure, heal (on - ゾ or チ)
猗: luxuriant growth, gentle, docile, beautiful (on - ă‚€ or ケ)
HONORABLE MENTION:
磁: magnetism, magnet, porcelain (on - ゾ) - I think magnet/magnetism is more common, but its used in words for porcelain/ceramics
I didn’t have to change George’s name, since I think some girls are named George (ex: Nancy Drew’s friend), but it’s most commonly a name for boys - so, in this case, I went for a feminine variant: Georgia.
Roughly, the two spellings I chose between George’s name can be read two ways:
“Gentle Daughter who Reigns”. Or “Gentle Porcelain Daughter”
I raise you the fact that - Eva is a man here. Who strives for power in the patriarchal family he was born in, patriarchal society - and he has a daughter. When, in a stunning spin on canon, it’s him instead of Krauss who states that a woman’s only job is to support her spouse and bare his children.
And he had a daughter.
In canon, Eva was incredibly strict on George because she never moved past wanting to prove her worth, wanting to become the head of the Ushiromiya Family - its not an exaggeration to state she raised George to become the next head of the family because of that, and she herself acknowledges it.
So, in Natsuhi-esque style, Eva actually treats George here kind of how Jessica is treated by Natsuhi in canon - he wants her to find the perfect husband, and therefore become the perfect lady for high society.
(The difference between Jessica and George here is that while Jessica hates her lessons, George either takes to them like a fish to water or
is significantly more resigned to them because INTERNALIZED MISOGYNY, plus - her dad).
Also, Eva loves her son. A lot. Therefore, he would treat his daughter as a princess - promise all the wealth in the world while saddling her with an expansive array of studying lessons and expectations.
Therefore “Daughter who Reigns” - to marry a man of wealth/similar to Kina in this AU, become head of the family/marry a man who become head in Jessie’s stead/George is his little princess.
And “Porcelain Daughter” = the perfect example of an upper class, high society young lady.
(Also, also, also, also. George and internalized misogyny. George and internalized homophobia, considering her relationship with Shannon if it’s only the Ushiromiya’s Genderbent. George’s mindset in General because it’s, well, still George).
Battler - Ushiromiya Valor (ćłä»Łćźź æˆŠæœ—ć‹‡)
Katakana: バロル Hiragana: ばろる
戊: war, battle, fight (On - ă‚»ăƒł, Kun - たたか-う or いくさ) 朗: cheerful, bright (On - ロォ, Kun - ă»ăŒ-らか) 拇: brave, courageous (On - ラォ, Kun - いさ-む)
Battler’s name is unique in that the kanji isn’t read using any sort of kun’yomi, on’yomi, or Nanori reading. The meaning of the kanji is fight + person - which translates into Battler in English, a person who fights.
In Valor's case, her name is brave or courageous, cheerful fight. Which is interpreted as Valor/Valorous - great courage in the face of battle.
Hence why in Fem! Battler (Valor’s) case, i put both readings down. Those are potential ways other people could read her name, but that’s not actually what it is.
Ange - Ushiromiya Angel (ćłä»Łćźź çžćŻżæ”)
Katakana:ă€€ă‚šăƒłă‚žăƒ„ăƒ« Hiragana: えんじゅる
I think it would be find to keep Ange's name as is? At most, I would just have to change it to Angel - which is still the same thing, just in English rather than Greek or French.
However, since I went this far with changing everyone's names, and because I'm too curious about potential options (plus I don't want to feel like I'm copping out), I decided screw it - might as well.
Mirroring Eva's name, all I'm going to do is just stick an additional kanji there are the end of his name because I'm...tired, hahah.
瞁: relation, affinity, edge, verge 毿: longevity, congratulations, felicitaton 攁: flow, stream
Which I think reads as: long life at the edge of a stream.
Maria - Ushiromiya Marcello (ćłä»Łćźź äžžç€Źè·Ż)
Katakana:ăƒžăƒ«ăƒă‚§ăƒ / ăƒžăƒ«ă‚»ăƒ Hiragana: ăŸă‚‹ăĄă‡ă‚
äžž: round, whole (Kun - ăŸă‚‹/ăƒžăƒ«)
瀬: current, torrent, shallows, shoal (kun - ă‚»/せ)
è·Ż: Path, route, road, distance (on - ろ/ロ)
HONORABLE MENTION/Alias(??):
魔: witch, demon, evil spirit (on’yomi - ăŸ/マ)
璱: precious stone (on’yomi -る/ル)
瀬: current, torrent, shallows, shoal (kun’yomi - ă‚»/せ)
è·Ż: Path, route, road, distance (on’yomi - ろ/ロ)
The reason I have two different kanji spellings for Marcelo’s name is because of the meanings. Marcello would still be Beato’s apprentice in a GB AU. He’s a baby witch sorcerer!
So the latter variant of his is a very blatant tie to his interest in magic, the occult, and witches/sorcerers since the first character refers to witch/demon/evil spirit (and man, depending on who selects the kanji, whether it’s M! Rosa or even Marcello’s mother - who in canon, is the man who abandoned a pregnant Rosa - is something a bit painful. Whooo
)
Put all together, it’s something along the lines of the witch’s stone on the route through the shallows (or it’s meant to be interpreted that way).
1) Maria, in any universe, is precious and I will fight you to the death on that.
2) One, it’s less pertaining to Marcello and more his and his father’s connection to the story of Beatrice (II). In canon, she fell off a cliff overlooking the sea, presumably near the shallow edge of the ocean as she struck the rocky shore - Rosa was still able to reach her.
Trauma like that sticks. Honestly, in an AU, my best reasoning for this would be that before death, maybe they were discussing names or children or stuffed animals, and Beato would bring up the name ‘Marcello’ - which would henceforth forever stick in Roland’s mind after that.
(Hence witch’s stone - M!Beato (II) would have given him his son’s name ten/eleven years prior to his birth in 1977).
There’s a different reasoning I used for the first variant of his name which is ‘the path round the shallows’.
A lot of people on poor relationships may have children, and their children - more than anything else - becomes the reason they try to stick together and avoid having a divorce. So, more focused on Rosa and Maria’s branch of the family, Marcello could have been given this name since Roland and his girlfriend/wife were in a struggling relationship at this point (or it began to struggle after his birth).
It could also refer to Beato (II) and the memory sticking in Roland’s mind, but there’s far less of a blantant tie to what happened in 1968.
(Additionally, maybe the second spelling for Marcello in kanji could be his sorcerer name - similar to Goldsmith/Golden Witch for Kinzo/Kina).
I, again, don’t have a reason for why Kina would chose the character for his name because, long story short, I think Maria (in canon) is the only one of the kids who Kinzo didn’t have some sort of hand in naming - Rosa mentioning that it had made Kinzo very upset when she’d named Maria herself.
More info about the kanji below
Each of the individual kanji should double as links to their jitenon entries I found for the readings and English translations of their meanings. However, around Roland's name, it wouldn't let me add any more links, so you'll have to copy and paste the kanji if you want to check the meanings yourself.
I additionally used the mobile/android app Japanese (red backdrop with æ—„æœŹèȘž on it) to double check the potential kun'yomi/on'yomi readings.

Super Robot Rollcall: The Nadesico Crew of The Past

Yurika Misumaru is the seemingly airheaded captain of the Nadesico. Between her difficulties adhering to social norms and her fervent affections for Akito, it's easy to think that's all there is to her, but in truth, she's a combat genius, and passed military academy with frightening scores. When everyone's back is to the wall, she's liable to make up for her lack of experience with her tactical gifts to create miracles.
Tumblr media
Much like with Noin, her stats do not reflect her canonical skills, being painfully middling even for battleship captain standards. SRW R hates to see a girlboss winning.
Her spirit commands are fairly decent, however, with a lot of fringe support utility that you won't find in many other learnsets, which is especially handy to have on a unit that's gonna be forcibly deployed most of the time.
Fun Fact: She has a near photographic memory, and seems to have a knack for linguistics.

A civilian battleship designed by Nergal which far outclassed anything the Earth military had in their possession at the time. This fact, coupled with the fact that it was heading for Mars for a seemingly suicidal rescue mission while the Earth Sphere was embroiled in the bloody Lizard War created a lot of enmity between Nergal and the military, leading to a lot of the conflicts early into the story.

It's the Nadesico B if it had missiles (meaning it's not completely EN dependent). I don't know what you want me to say here, it certainly is a battleship.
...If i'm gonna be a bit more charitable, it is fairly funny that when you think about it, this thing is a straight upgrade over the B, which is meant to be a successor to this thing.
Fun Fact: The Nadesico is an amalgamation of quite possibly the three most iconic space battleships in japanese sci-fi nerd culture at the time the show came out; its large, flat upper hull is reminiscent of Star Trek's Enterprise, the protuding "legs" are a homage to Mobile Suit Gundam's White Base, and the Gravity Cannon is obviously evocative of the Yamato's Wave Motion Gun, to say nothing of how the two names combined form Yamato Nadeshiko, a name emblematic of the idealized "japanese beauty".

Throughout it all, the few things anchoring him were Gai, Gekiganger, and Yurika. His struggles to balance these influences on him with his dreams, ideals and values are the crux of the story of Nadesico. He loses sight of himself multiple times, but in the end, he manages to come out of it with a better understanding of both himself and the things he holds dear.
He pilots the pink Aestivalis unit.
Tumblr media
Akito and Gai are very much a set. Akito has a more Real-oriented spirit learnset, better Evasion and worse Defense, but better Ranged... sadly, since the aforementioned Double Gekigan Flare is gonna consistently be his best move, it's easy to consider Akito to be a simple add-on to Gai, and he doesn't really feel like a protagonist for much of the game.
Even so, as the game progresses, he'll get a few ways to differentiate his playstyle, and by the end, both him and Gai will be a lot more interesting... though ultimately, you'll still realistically need Gai (who can actually draw out the full power of the DGF thanks to his higher Melee stat) if you want to use Akito to his fullest. It's easy to joke then that Gai is the real protagonist of Nadesico in this game, but in my opinion, we haven't yet encountered the character who truly takes up the mantle of Nadesico protagonist in SRW R...
Ryoko Subaru
Tumblr media
"Did i just find it...? My own evening star..."
Source Material: Martian Successor Nadesico Age: 18 Height: 165 cm Hobbies: Basketball, motorcycles Voice Actress: Chisa Yokoyama Character Designer: Keiji Gotoh
Daughter of a military man, Ryoko is a confident pilot with the skills to back it up, but she struggles with social situations, and can find it hard to act formal.
She's the leader of the trio consisting of her, Hikaru and Izumi (often called the Buttercup trio, as the Aestivalis is named after the Adonis aestivalis, a member of the buttercup family).
She pilots the red Aestivalis unit.
she's also really cute
Tumblr media
Gameplaywise, Ryoko is like a midway point between Akito and Gai. Her Melee and Ranged stats are perfectly balanced, and her defensive stats are on par with Akito's, but she has the upper hand in the Skill department. The biggest issue with her though is that much like Akito and Gai have their combination move, she and the other two girls have a combination move... which primarily uses the Ranged stat. As such, you'd really want for her to have higher Ranged, rather than the balanced loadout she has here, which seems to be an attempt to make her better on her own than the other two, but just isn't impactful enough when Aestis are so underwhelming without their combination partners.
Still, she's far from a bad pilot; you just wouldn't really want to deploy her without her two squadmates.
Fun Fact: This is less of a "factual" one and more an experience report, but. I went with her route in the first Nadesico Sega Saturn game because of course i did, which has a mechanic where you can take the girls out on dates to the Nadesico's holodeck and live out a little romantic fantasy scenario. But for some reason, Ryoko seems to have glitched for me, and every single time that she initiated a date, without fail, she'd pick the castaway scenario, over and over and over again.
Tumblr media
maybe she just really liked The Blue Lagoon
Hikaru Amano
Tumblr media
"I learned the hard way that hobbies and romance don't mix..."
Source Material: Martian Successor Nadesico Age: 18 Height: 152 cm Favorite Food: Pizza crust Voice Actress: Shiho Kikuchi Character Designer: Keiji Gotoh
A quirky girl who's really into anime and manga, being a fan of Gekiganger herself (though never really talking about it much with Akito nor Gai). She's a doujinshi artist and writer (remember, doujinshi here just means fanwork), who plans to break into professionally making manga.
She easily falls for 2D men, is a bit of a fujoshi, and seems to have gone through a bad breakup not too long before the show began.
She pilots the Yellow Aestivalis unit.
Tumblr media
In terms of raw stats, Hikaru's a really good Aesti pilot. Her spirit commands, while not amazing, are also more than serviceable. If i had a complaint, it's that like Ryoko, she really needs the other two to function, and even moreso than Ryoko, as her second strongest move, the Distortion Punch, is Melee-based. But if you're deploying all three, she's rather powerful.
Izumi Maki
Tumblr media
"I'm a woman who only causes misfortune..."
Source Material: Martian Successor Nadesico Age: 18 Height: 177 cm Favorite Food: Botamochi, inari sushi Hobby: Bad puns Voice Actress: Miki Nagasawa Character Designer: Keiji Gotoh
A patented Weird Girl, she's a gloomy-looking young woman of few words. Usually, she only ever speaks up to make a terrible pun related to something that was just said, but she's not just gloomy-looking; she seems to have had quite the unlucky past, though she doesn't outwardly dwell on it very often.
She pilots the Turquoise Aestivalis unit.
Tumblr media
Much like with Hikaru, Izumi is clearly meant to be deployed as a set with the other two. Only real notable difference to point out here is that Izumi has slightly better offensive stats and slightly worse defensive ones than Ryoko.
Fun fact: The second Sega Saturn Nadesico game (The Blank of 3 Years) reveals that Izumi enjoys... dressing in a ninja costume and jumping around in the woods in the middle of the night. Just for fun.
Tumblr media
yeah sure why not
Aestivalis
Tumblr media
Source: Martian Successor Nadesico Height: 8 meters Power Source: Gravity Wave Antenna, backup generator Real World Designer: Mika Akitaka
A modular machine made by Nergal, made to work in conjunction with its line of battleships. Thanks to cooperation between the machine and its mothership, the weight of a dedicated generator doesn't need to be taken into account, and Aestivalis units are capable of formidable versatility thanks to their various frames.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you're coming from other games, you basically get the gist of how Aestis work. Pretty good survivability, pretty underwhelming firepower unless they can fire off their combination moves.
Of note, however, is the Artillery Frame, which i feel is particularly strong in this game; though its Mobility and Movement Range are just as bad as always, and it has no post-movement attacks, it manages to make up for it with decent firepower, and perhaps more importantly, there are a lot of maps in this game where you can get away with turtling on base tiles. It's also a tempting way to use Hikaru and Izumi's high Ranged stats without having to deploy all three of them, but don't get too used to that; you won't actually get to keep these to the end of the game. Not as they are right now, anyway.
Another thing of note is the lack of a Ground Frame; as a result, against land-based opponents, Aestis will really struggle to deal damage unless you're using the Artillery frames.
Fun fact: In flower language, the Adonis aestivalis can stand for bittersweet or unforgettable memories.

I've been brainrotting over this after talking with @greeniebeanyyy so I'm throwing our collective two cents into the SCP Meshi AU:
Laios: Ex-military, enters conscription after leaving home when Falin gets sent away from home with no explanation. Gets discharged from the military and applies for shadowy paramilitary jobs to make ends meet. Unexpectedly runs back into Falin upon joining the Foundation. Has a knack for picking up on anomalous theory, and almost considers pursuing a research career. After Falin's 'incident', meets Senshi who is sent from Wilson's Wildlife as a liaison with the Foundation. Probably eventually leaves the Foundation and joins Wilson's. (I love you gap moe Dr Laios, but his struggle through squalor is one of my favourite parts of his character)
Falin: Flagged for some anomalous traits by the Foundation while she's young. Parents make a deal and she gets her schooling sponsored and chosen by Foundation in exchange for keeping hush about it. Pursues medical studies in Deer College where she meets Marcille. Both graduate and are employed under the Foundation. Falin eventually becomes involved in a major anomalous incident concerning Thistle, a Type Green based in a small town nexus with an unageing populace. Is generally very sympathetic to the plight of SCPs.
Marcille: Ambitious researcher, joins the Foundation for her own academic interests. Has connections with the Chaos Insurgency and other anomalous groups that supplement her own research into esoteric fields. Just a little more evil.
Kabru: Either MTF Red Right Hand or hyper-competent Unusual Incidents Unit member who has been unable to join larger groups of interests due to just being bad at dealing with anomalies in general (though has an easier time if he can reason with them). Keen eye for intel gathering and social engineering.
Chilchuck: UIU Liaison sent to support Foundation operations after the Falin Incident. Hates working for the government but stays in the UIU both to support his family and out of a moral obligation to do the job so more selfish and dangerous individuals don't abuse the position (sense of principle might be why he hasn't been offered a more prestigious role by the Foundation). Takes pity on Izutsumi and sets up her capture by the Foundation to aid with her anomalous condition.
Izutsumi: Catgirl still. Wants to live a normal life and revert modifications on her body. Foundation is largely unhelpful, but doesn't mind the lazier lifestyle. Formerly Serpent's Hand or denizen of the Wanderer's Library
Senshi: Animal Handler from Wilson's Wildlife Solutions. Note: Ambrose Restaurants was briefly considered but immediately rejected because he's not about that bourgeoise decadence and excess. Has prepared anomalous animal byproducts under WWS to evaluate ethical ways to live alongside them?
The Canaries: Global Occult Coalition. Mithrun, specifically, is a former Foundation staff member who was taken in by GOC after a disaster at his old site.
Thistle: Type Green, maintains the Golden Kingdom Nexus that keeps inhabitants young forever - due to low containment risk, the Foundation leaves a skeleton crew of researchers including Falin to do periodic checkups. Foster brother was an inhabitant that has since gone missing. Appeals to Falin's sympathy to aid in relocating him. Their combined efforts bring the attention of a greater anomalous force. Winged Lion: Is dado /j
Others Shuro and his party are basically SCP-2085 Kabru's party is all UIU. Not sure if its funnier that he's separate from them or they're all in the same department as Chilchuck

2025 Volkswagen Atlas: Commanding Presence, Family-Focused Engineering
The 2025 Volkswagen Atlas stands as a testament to German engineering prowess in the competitive three-row SUV segment. After spending a week behind the wheel, it's clear this latest iteration refines what made the Atlas popular while addressing previous shortcomings.
Tumblr media
Refined Power Delivery
Under the hood, the 2025 Atlas offers a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 269 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. This powertrain strikes an impressive balance between efficiency and capability, delivering smooth acceleration and adequate passing power when needed. The eight-speed automatic transmission performs admirably, with shifts that are nearly imperceptible under normal driving conditions.
The available 4Motion all-wheel-drive system provides confidence in various driving scenarios, from rain-slicked highways to light off-road excursions. During testing, the Atlas maintained composure even when pushed through challenging corners, with minimal body roll for a vehicle of its size.
Interior Space and Versatility
Where the Atlas truly shines is interior space. Few competitors can match its genuinely usable third row, which comfortably accommodates adult passengers without complaint—a rarity in this segment. The second-row captain's chairs (available on higher trims) slide and tilt with one-handed operation, making third-row access remarkably straightforward.
Cargo capacity impresses with 20.6 cubic feet behind the third row, expanding to a cavernous 96.8 cubic feet with all rear seats folded. Thoughtful storage solutions throughout the cabin include generously sized door pockets, a deep center console, and multiple USB ports strategically placed for all passengers.
Tech and Comfort
The centerpiece of the dashboard is Volkswagen's latest infotainment system, displayed on a responsive 12-inch touchscreen. The interface proves intuitive with minimal learning curve, supported by wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. The available digital cockpit provides customizable information displays that enhance the driving experience without overwhelming the driver.
Ride quality deserves special mention, as the Atlas delivers exceptional comfort even over rough pavement. Road and wind noise are well-suppressed, creating a serene environment for both daily commutes and longer journeys. The front seats offer excellent support for extended driving sessions, with ample adjustability to accommodate drivers of various heights.
Safety and Value
The 2025 Atlas comes equipped with Volkswagen's IQ.DRIVE suite of advanced safety features, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and emergency braking with pedestrian detection. These systems operate with a natural feel that inspires confidence rather than annoyance.
While the Atlas isn't the least expensive option in its class, its combination of space, quality, and driving dynamics presents compelling value. The five-year, 60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty further enhances the ownership proposition.
For families seeking a three-row SUV that doesn't compromise on space, comfort, or driving enjoyment, the 2025 Volkswagen Atlas deserves serious consideration. It successfully balances practical needs with enough refinement and character to elevate it above mere transportation.

Add a Modern Touch with the Horizon Accent Chair
Accent chairs offer a simple yet powerful way to refresh your space, and the Horizon Accent Chair does exactly that with effortless flair. Designed with clean lines and contemporary vibes, this chair doesn't just provide extra seating — it brings personality, comfort, and style to your living room, bedroom, or office. If you’re looking for a bold yet tasteful upgrade to your home, the Horizon Accent Chair is the statement piece you didn’t know you needed.
Why Choose the Horizon Accent Chair
The Horizon Accent Chair blends aesthetics with comfort in a way that few chairs manage to achieve. From the first glance, it’s clear this isn’t just another piece of furniture. It invites you in with its sleek silhouette, yet supports you with durable craftsmanship and plush cushioning. Whether you’re curating a minimalist interior or layering textures in a more eclectic space, this chair adapts without losing its distinctive charm.
Built with premium materials, the Horizon Accent Chair features a sturdy wooden frame and often comes with high-quality upholstery such as linen, velvet, or performance fabric. The seat is deep and inviting, while the backrest provides just the right amount of support. Whether you’re curling up with a book or entertaining guests, the chair enhances the overall experience.
A Style That Works with Any Room
One of the standout features of the Horizon Accent Chair is its versatility. It looks right at home in a wide variety of interiors, from modern lofts and Scandinavian apartments to traditional homes with a twist of contemporary design. Its sleek shape and minimalistic frame make it ideal for small spaces, yet it holds its own in larger rooms thanks to its presence.
In the living room, it can serve as a cozy reading nook or complement your main seating area with a burst of character. In bedrooms, it adds a polished finish and becomes the perfect spot for slipping on shoes or enjoying a quiet morning coffee. For home offices, it offers a stylish contrast to your work desk, combining form with function in a way that makes even Zoom meetings feel more luxurious.
Tumblr media
Comfort That Goes Beyond Expectations
A lot of accent chairs prioritize appearance over comfort, but the Horizon Accent Chair doesn’t make that trade-off. With carefully engineered cushioning and ergonomically balanced proportions, the chair offers an experience that’s as pleasant as it is visually appealing. The seat is usually padded with high-density foam, which retains its shape over time while still offering that coveted sink-in feeling.
The armrests, when included in the design, are thoughtfully shaped to provide comfort without overwhelming the visual lightness of the piece. The backrest’s angle encourages relaxed posture, ideal for long reading sessions or casual conversations. It’s a chair you’ll not only love to look at but genuinely enjoy using daily.
Materials and Craftsmanship You Can Trust
The Horizon Accent Chair is often constructed with durability in mind. Many versions feature solid wood or engineered wood frames that withstand daily use. The upholstery materials are typically chosen for both texture and resilience. Depending on the brand and model, you may find natural fibers like linen or cotton blends, or you might opt for synthetic fabrics that are stain-resistant and pet-friendly.
The attention to detail doesn’t stop with materials. Stitching, leg finishes, cushion piping, and fabric alignment all speak to the quality craftsmanship that defines the Horizon Accent Chair. These details ensure the chair doesn’t just look good out of the box, but continues to impress over time.
Easy to Pair with Other Décor
Because the Horizon Accent Chair is designed with a minimalist mindset, it complements a wide range of other furniture. Whether you’re pairing it with a leather sofa, a rustic coffee table, or a modern bookshelf, the chair finds its place without demanding center stage — unless you want it to.
The neutral tones and subdued patterns often available with this chair make styling a breeze. Think of it as a canvas for your interior ideas. Throw a chunky knit blanket over the back or add a bold cushion to introduce a pop of color. You can keep the space serene and monochromatic, or use the chair as a jumping-off point for layered textures and mixed materials.
Lightweight Yet Sturdy Design
Another practical benefit of the Horizon Accent Chair is its weight. It’s light enough to move around easily when you’re hosting guests or rearranging the room, but stable enough to feel secure when in use. You won’t have to worry about wobbly legs or flimsy frames. This makes it an ideal piece for city dwellers who like to reimagine their space or homeowners who want flexibility without sacrificing style.
This also makes the chair a great choice for temporary needs — adding extra seating for holidays, upgrading a guest room, or even staging a home for sale. Its timeless look and moveability make it an all-around winner in both function and design.
Perfect for Small and Large Spaces Alike
Whether you’re decorating a cozy apartment or a spacious home, the Horizon Accent Chair can fit seamlessly into the layout. For small spaces, it offers the ideal amount of comfort and style without taking up too much real estate. Its slim arms and compact base keep the visual weight light, helping the room feel open and uncluttered.
In larger spaces, you can use two chairs to create symmetry or define a separate conversation area. Paired with a side table and floor lamp, two Horizon Accent Chairs can frame a stunning vignette in an open-concept layout, offering structure while maintaining flow.
youtube
A Sustainable and Thoughtful Choice
Many Horizon Accent Chair models are now built with sustainability in mind. From responsibly sourced wood to low-VOC finishes and recycled fabric blends, more brands are focusing on reducing environmental impact without compromising on design. This gives style-conscious shoppers a way to make more responsible choices when furnishing their homes.
In addition, the timeless aesthetic of the chair means you won’t feel the need to replace it with every new trend. This long-term appeal contributes to a more sustainable lifestyle by reducing the constant cycle of buying and discarding.
A Long-Term Investment in Everyday Living
Accent chairs often walk the line between decorative and practical, but the Horizon Accent Chair firmly belongs in both categories. It elevates your space with its clean, modern lines while enhancing your everyday life with real comfort and utility. It’s an investment in how you experience your home — not just how it looks in photos.
Rather than chasing fleeting trends, this chair is designed to age gracefully alongside your evolving style. The quality materials, expert construction, and versatile design ensure that it remains a staple in your home for years to come.
Final Thoughts on the Horizon Accent Chair
The Horizon Accent Chair is more than just an extra seat — it’s a refined expression of modern living. With its balance of sleek design, plush comfort, and dependable construction, it earns its place in any room. Whether you’re furnishing a new home, refreshing a tired corner, or simply looking to add personality without overwhelming your space, this chair rises to the occasion.
Choosing the Horizon Accent Chair means choosing elegance, comfort, and long-term value wrapped in one stylish silhouette. It’s a small change that brings a big impact to the feel and function of your interior.

This is the #1 reason I refuse to have kids. The #2 reason is the lack of support for parents in all areas of American life.
I grew up wandering and exploring. I grew up socializing with friends face-to-face without constant adult supervision. I don't know how I could have grown up to be well-adjusted without these things. There are virtually no third places and minors are treated like an inherently unwelcome presence everywhere.
Then there's the problems facing the parents. I grew up in a community where parents weren't charged with neglect for not hovering over their children 24/7. There were also social networks of caregivers that went beyond the 'nuclear family + maybe grandparents' model. Children weren't seen as the parents' problem; they weren't seen as a problem and they weren't seen as solely the responsibility of their parents. The neighborhood was full of people who looked out for us kids and didn't mind including us in their activities — from the guy down the street who liked to tinker with his old car and would ask you to hand him his tools as he explained how engines work, to the lady who let you help her in her garden and taught you about all the different flowers she had.
This sort of neighborhood shouldn't be reduced to an enviable fantasy that children only get to experience through their favorite cartoon characters' eyes. This should be the norm.
It is easy to blame parents for stifling their children's social development, but the truth is that they are victims as well. Most parents in the United States do not live in neighborhoods like these. They will much sooner be speculated about on Nextdoor or reported for letting their children ride a bike or speak to a neighbor unsupervised. Even when parents take their children to a place where children can be reasonably expected to exist, both the parents and their children are treated like a nuisance, subject to forgiveness for their trespass only if they are infallible. They are given no grace.
It's as if American adults expect parents to figure out a magic combination of words, punishments, and rewards that makes children figure out how to behave in public before ever practicing their skills in a real public setting. The weight of society's expectations to raise well-adjusted children in this near total absence of support or compassion is crushing them. This doesn't even address how hostile the average American workplace is to families.
