Another day, another example of my becoming disproportionately devastated by some minor detail in Xena-

In S6 Return of the Valkyrie- besides how devastating it is to see Xena (as “Wealthea”) be so meek, it’s even more devastating how much she does not want to be Xena.

Because it’s just such an explicit statement of what we’ve seen since Sins of the Past- her suicidality, her guilt, her self-loathing- it’s genuine. It’s not performative, she’s not playing it up- those feelings are that strong.

But even when she has no memory of that guilt, of that self-loathing, she is terrified of even the possibility that she might be Xena. Like won’t even entertain the idea.

And still- with no memory of her either- her love for Gabrielle still overrides that fear, because she is the only other thing that Xena feels that strongly about.

“Wealthea” risks becoming Xena again because some part of her just instinctively knows she loves Gabrielle too much to make that trade- is that not devastatingly beautiful?

It's a really weird feeling watching the DMC anime (I had to sit through it twice btw) and being disappointed by it because all I can notice are things it got *wrong*, meanwhile most of the people around me like it and have no problem handwaving the issues with "well it's a reimagining/it's not canon". Yet the more I think about it, the more I find myself being annoyed by even small things that weren't handled well or barely made sense, and the more I find myself disliking it.

...Especially the last episode and that fucking green day 'murica montage. Like what the actual fuck was that?

Reading romance written by me inevitably means you'll have to read about an ace- and/or aro-spectrum person having to clumsily stumble their way through learning what they're comfortable with, and the romantic wish-fufillment element is that I will always give them a partner who understands (or tries their best to) in their own way and will give them space to figure it out.

Ugly sobbing in bed at 3am because I took a shower earlier and when I finished there was a dead cockroach next to my foot that wasn't there when I got in and because I sat down to eat afterwards and then I saw this huge alive motherfucker on my chair and it started flying around the apartment and tried to fly at me.

I managed to get the alive one out and the dead one is still on the floor of my shower and I'm too scared to try and move it because I'm scared it's actually alive and also because it's literally massive and I cannot touch it.

Yeah anyways did not expect to get a full on panic attack because of a goddamn cockroach. I don't usually have such a big issue with them. But here we are.

honestly i just sit and think sometimes over like, miravi isn't toxic yuri or anything, they're DEEPLY functional with each other and it's much moreso a cheetah and dog situation where they both get a lot more stable with someone to balance them out.

but the way it looks like is often a lot of arguing and them not being afraid to snipe at each other or call the other out on bullshit. and i keep feeling like everything about the current shipping Moment would suggest that this is toxic — even though this quality, in of itself, is what they like in their relationship and what helps them best. which is a form of relationship that very much works for people! and works well! there's a lot of benefit in having someone you can be upset with and show that upset with without them taking it personally, or in using it as a means to immediately point out and begin working out problems in a constructive manner, problems that would have become a lot worse if allowed to simmer, and the emotional vulnerability needed to do this in a constructive way with someone else! it's actually my preferred form of relationship, because i'm bossy and mean and contrary and i like not being forced to dull my edges and having someone who can dish it as well as they can take it.

it's a bit like arguing for fun, i think. for those who like it and find it really works for them, there's no hard feelings at the end, it's just a way to get everything on the table and debate over a solution. it feels good, giving the high of the exertion but coming back down with emotional reassurance to ensure it's really not any hard feelings. but, for the majority of people, it's so deeply concerning and distressing that they can't even imagine someone like that, that something has to be wrong because they cannot imagine ever doing it constructively, or they cannot ever imagine not taking it personally.

and it's just very odd sometimes, as someone who has a ship like this as a main ship, that people don't understand that kind of dynamic.
