i think so much about how billys meant to be this stereotype high school jock that everyone fawns over and how, with the duffers us vs them narratives, billy is supposed to represent the Them™ and like everything steves meant to be breaking away from. billy comes in as the one meant to fit in with the Cool Kids. hes supposed to be part of the in crowd
except it fails because everything about billys character design, specifically when placed in a small conservative town in the 80s, lends to the complete opposite reaction.
he comes in loud and brash, a guy wearing jewelry, taking care of his appearance, dresses very rock and roll, goes out in public without a shirt/buttons undone so much he might as well not be wearing one.
hes flashy. demands attention.
that shit does NOT fly in that setting. that makes him a target for peoples bigotry and prejudices, realistically.
especially when you compare it to the rest of the main cast that DOES dress exactly how one is expected to in that setting (the only one you can maybe make an exception for is robin. who happens to be queer... interesting.)
MAYBE billy can get away with it at school amongst his peers (but also knowing that there were jason carvers amongst them... probably not so much. but of course the duffers dont think about that). but he sure as hell is not getting away with it with the adult men in that town. maybe he has the moms ogling after him (and those moms specifically need to SEEK FUCKING THERAPY OR JAIL TIME but i digress), but like a typical god fearing housewife in that setting ?? oh you bet your ass she’s side eyeing him too and passing judgement.
what it comes down to is that the duffers have no fundamental understanding of the society they are writing for. theyve got blinders on for the one specific narrative they want told, that they dont realize it entirely falls apart under any scrutiny
realistically, every time billy steps foot in public, he will be ostracized. so he either has to have INCREDIBLE confidence to not let that affect him (which, we can make a good argument that it would, because god knows theres enough canon evidence to show that billy isnt as untouchable as he likes to make himself out to be), or we have to take into account how anxiety inducing it mustve been for him to just exist in that town. he’s already got a father at home calling him slurs for his appearance, you know it doesnt start and end there.
and then i think about how this show likes to pick and choose who the outsiders are, who’s the underdog we should be rooting for. and somehow its the main cast of characters who all have a found family, who all dont actually deviate that far out of what is expected of them from society, who are all forced to conform to one set of standards and never question it, never branch out from it.
but like... billys the one upholding the status quo? the guy who literally has his entire being wrapped up in everything conservative america hates? hes the biggest outcast of them all and yet no one ever considers how isolated that makes him

Hello! Do you ever think about how Captain Marvel would probably be someone who helps out in the soup kitchens or raises awareness for actually good charities and homeless shelters (because Billy Batson has experience with which is bad and which is good for obvious reasons) and so because he's such an influential/charming hero it works and the charities, shelters and many other things just get an immediate and overwhelmingly amazing response afterwards with many donations and such and then it's sometimes on the news and Batman sees the news or reads an article as Bruce Wayne and just smiles a bit and thinks back to how his kids were struggling and thinks "another charity to my list of donation worthy ones" and then asks Alfred to prepare a cheque of about a ridiculous amount of money (because he's a billionaire and he wouldn't care if his bank account had a dent in it) and just showers the charities, and then Superman is like "hey! My pal Marvel is vouching for these places and works there sometimes, maybe I can get more people to donate by having an interview with him!" And so basically every Leaguer helps out in their own way and Captain Marvel becomes like the unofficial guy who let's everyone know about the charity/donation thingy and if it's good or not and he becomes a big fan favourite among the lower class and his merch becomes more widespread but because he personally asked the corporations making these (and also with the help of Bruce's lawyers) to make the merch cheaper and more accessible for everyone because he hates when things that bring joy are so overly expensive and unaccessible for people in the lower class and that just makes him an even bigger fan favourite, and whenever he passed by stores in his Billy form and sees people able to buy his merch for cheap with such happy smiles on their faces, he can't help but feel giddy and self indulgent at times and buy a pin or two, maybe a hoodie, the hoodie is just for the extra hilarity because one time he passed by Clark when he was looking for Cap and Billy was in the hoodie and he nearly lost his mind
Ohh my god this is such a lovely idea. Billy being the unofficial sponsor of all these charities and nonprofits and volunteer organizations. Because Billy knows what it's like to have nothing (because he still materially has basically nothing and emotionally he's so distant from his friends coworkers comrades fellow league members and he wants other people to feel better and good and loved) so he just. Pours himself into doing good, not just by punching bad guys and sealing rifts in dimensions but by volunteering at soup kitchens and talking people down from rooftops and rescuing cats from trees.
And think of his mantra: "Do good, and good will follow", and then seeing how his own acts of kindness, unthinking and conscious, are influencing the hero community and branching outward from there, that this Gotham City billionaire cited Capitan Marvel as his inspiration for his most recent donation to a Fawcett City organization, and Superman is following in his footsteps. I bet Billy saves up his money to buy his own merch for himself and also to pass out to people to help them feel better after a loss or a scary moment.
Also, both Billy and Clark are wearing Captain Marvel hoodies and Billy is fully like "is superman impersonating me??" before realizing, no, that's Superman's secret identity, walking around, looking for Billy, in a Captain Marvel hoodie. Absolutely he loses his mind.

thinking about how steve was homophobic and misogynistic in s1 but they gave him a chance to be faced with a demogorgon when people needed help and he stepped up. everyone lauds him for that, and he's become a fan favourite. yet when billy, finally in his right mind after being possessed the whole season, gets the opportunity and chooses to do the same--stepping up to take a killing blow for el--people dont offer him the same grace? why. :(
the biggest (reasonable) argument is always 'billy dying was not a redemption' and it's not, you're right. steve stepping in to whack a demogorgon with jonathan's nail bat wasnt a redemption either; his redemption came with him apologizing to them both, and then working to show nancy that he's a better person as they deal with the fallout of s1, and being gracious about jonathan's presence in nancy's life. he got the chance to show he's changed and managed to redeem himself because he lived, and billy unfortunately didnt. but you cant deny that his final moments proved that the potential for him to change is there, and that makes a difference.

i saw a post on twt that said
"They never want to discuss what triggered you. Just how you reacted."
and immediately i thought of billy and all the antis that use his fight with steve as a way to paint him as villain or act like his anger was unjustified. he didn't just beat steve's ass bc he felt like it. y'all ignore the red flags steve was just flaunting and acting as if billy was wrong for reacting the way he did.
billy is clearly a person whose been hurt by adults, in more ways than the show let on, and he thought he was saving max from forcibly growing up in the same ways he had to.
he thought he was protecting her, and instead max was added to the list of people who have done billy wrong and failed to care about what their actions would do to an already messed up kid. (she too, thought she was doing the right thing in the moment, but nobody ever focuses on how max could've easily killed him with sedatives meant for an otherworldly being.)
it's always "he's violent and racist!" and never "he's violent and intolerant from years of abuse and forced ideals"
if you are born of a bad environment, and you're forced to stay in that environment, guess what happens? you are more likely to become a victim of circumstances and your upbringing than to stop the cycle forced onto you.
billy never stood a fighting chance because no one ever bothered to find out why he acted the way he did, they just called him a bad guy and moved on with their lives like he didn't matter.
and to them, and all the characters in the show, billy truly didn't matter.

I became a Tommy enjoyer overnight and I need someone to just hear me out on this trio
Heather, Eddie, and Tommy during s3. Normally, they wouldn't touch each other with a ten-foot pole, but their mutual Friend With Various Benefits (Billy) is acting more batshit weird than usual, so they have to figure things out themselves. They find the upside down without ever crossing paths with the Party Tommy’s desperately trying to reconnect with Steve like “hey man we’re all in mortal danger because of Eddie’s dnd game becoming real or something” and the only response he gets is "I know" Both groups end up meeting in Starcourt. Eddie and Tommy are crying and screaming- just no help at all- while Heather is complaining “Do I have to do EVERYTHING myself??”

small headcanon/theory that the grabber liked boys with long-ish hair to pull on (iykyk) like, if you look at each one of the ghost boy’s missing posters, their hair is like, somewhat longish.

My mini contribution to @echoes-lighthouse's Evil Slasher Orphanage! My wife Anna and I are here to help, and brought a few more kids of our own.
I really thought I was a horror fan until I sat down to draw this and came up blank. I guess I'm not a slasher guy, because a LOT more Monsters and Beasts came to mind, so it took a while to form a list. Though I did include Sam who is certainly a Creeture but.. They're human enough.
#Emile's Arts#Proud Parent Posting#Evil Slasher Orphanage#I'm stealing the Entity's abilities from DBD and giving them to me#And then immediately using them on accident to bring all these kids into one reality#That doesn't have to be canon to the orphanage obviously I just love being an Eldritch Being but Stupid#Also Friday the 13th is a movie in the Scream franchise so I thought this was a fun way to explain that fkjsdfkdfdkj#Honorable mention goes out to Frankenstien's Monster he is my baby but I could not for the life of me choose a design for him#I knew I KNEW I wanted Brandon immediately amazing concept that movie horrid execution#What if you had the powers of God in Middle School. You'd kill people right??? Right.#Also Sam Trick R Treat my beloved amazing Comic series that I love their design and energy#Spirit of Halloween little guy#One year I will dress up as them.. one year#ALSO BUBBA#I was so surprised Bubba wasn't in the original Orphanage cast he's SUCH a sweet pea I love him#Do not let him in the kitchen I don't care how big and wet his puppy eyes are do not let him in there#I also included Billy Trick R Treat because I wanted to the kid who plays him in the movie adaptation is very cute#And I LOVE a murderous little kid it's incredibly funny to me#More honorable mentions I considered;#Fran Bow and Misfortune but neither of them are Slashers on Purpose really#Misfortune is just a victim and IF Fran did kill her parents it wasn't her own choice#Six LN as well I love her but again... Not really a slasher. Also she's like two feet tall#I also though M3gan but eeeeeeeeeeeh I dunno I might come back to that#I was thinking about Rin Dead By Daylight as well and she's still on the table I think she'd fit in#I was also originally going to do The New King from Chzo Mythos but changed to John just because he's more Slasher Child than DaCabe#And again I kept running through Monsters like from Crypt TV and such and decided against them#Me my children my wife and this random person who's farm we stumbled across and are now crashing in#It's fine Anna's very use to Farm Labor she'll be a great help#And she is VERY calm comforting mother-y when she eventually calms down#She's gonna dote all over those girls

So I had the toxic thoughts of thinking that I can bring a dead fandom back to life and now I am really motivated, so enjoy some more Kollok edits and eventually I’ll send a whole essay on the driver’s character arc, because I can

The word fuck has only been said twice in the show, possibly only once officially, at least, according to the subtitles.
Once, by Billy Hargrove:
Tumblr media
During the scene in Season 3, episode 4 where they try to exorcise the son of a bitch.
“I’ll fucking gut you!”
And once by Will Byers:
Tumblr media
During the scene in Season 3, episode 3 where he destroys Castle Byers. It’s mostly drowned out by the music, but towards the end of the scene, where the music reaches a climax, he says fuck.
I was so surprised when I realized this, rewatching Season 3 this week. Will, as I have been informed, does curse, but it really seems like a lot less than other characters. *cough* Dustin. *cough*
There’s a lot to unpack here, as for why one of the two times fuck has been said during the show was when he and Mike “broke up” but I’m not gonna go into that right now because I was just trying to point it out to you.
(Neither of these screenshots were during the exact moment they said fuck. Sorry about the poor quality on Billy’s picture, it’s hard to get a good screenshot when he’s banging on the door and flailing around.)
So yeah. Take this as you will.
