Updated 100 Memorable Skating Programs

Back in 2018, I created the original version of this list. (You can find the master post here.) Since 2024 marks my 30th year as an official fan of figure skating and there have been some more great programs created since the last time, I thought it was about time to update the list in honor of World Ice Skating Day. Same rules apply as last time:

Only senior competitive programs starting from the 1993-1994 season are eligible, since that's the first season I really started watching figure skating.

Each skater may only be listed once, unless a partner/discipline switch is involved.

Choice of music may also not be repeated. (Yes, there are two James Bond programs on the list, but Yuna and Wakaba use different music for the most part, so I'm letting it slide.)

I debated long and hard about whether or not I should still include programs from skaters who have proven themselves to be not so great people. I'm someone who has little difficulty separating the art from the artist, so in the end, I decided to keep them listed (although most of them got knocked down a few pegs). This list is more about the choreography than the skater anyway, although there are certainly some problematic choreographers out there, too. (Looking at you especially, Morozov!) So, just because a skater is listed doesn't mean that I'm a fan of them or that I condone their actions! I just think certain programs are still great regardless of the skaters' terrible behavior off the ice.

Choreographers are noted if known. If you know who choreographed the programs without a choreographer named, please let me know!

Dave Wasson - creator of Time Squad, showrunner of The Cuphead Show!, director of The Buzz on Maggie, Making Fiends, Star vs. the Forces of Evil, and some of the 2013 Mickey Mouse shorts. all of my interactions with him have been incredibly kind and friendly; a real cartoon genius. please lend a hand if you are able.

Bill Reiss - if you've ever laughed at or quoted "NO! THIS IS PATRICK!", you should consider tossing SpongeBob veteran Bill Reiss what you can as the writer of that brilliant line. he helped make my childhood and probably yours, too. credits also include being the creative director of Chowder, co-developer of Fish Hooks, as well as working on the 2013 Mickey shorts and Harvey Beaks.

Bill Flores - if you've watched a cartoon in your lifetime (and, considering you're following this blog, you probably have), it's likely Bill Flores provided background art for it. Space Jam, King of the Hill, Rugrats, CatDog, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Chowder, Uncle Grandpa, Steven Universe, and 2013 Mickey are all just a sample of his credits.

Levon Jihanian - another incredibly talented background designer with a massive swathe of credits: Over the Garden Wall, Wander Over Yonder, Green Eggs and Ham, Tig 'n Seek, and The Day the Earth Blew Up, to name a few.

Jordan Mitchell - Jordan has been in the hospital and lost his brother and father in addition to his home. as a visual development artist, he's provided art for Tig 'n Seek, Carol vs the End of the World, and The Urkel Movie, as well has having editorial experience. he could really use a helping hand.

these are just a fraction of the names on the list, and even a smaller fraction of the thousands of people in LA impacted by these fires. no one is more important than the other--your help is limitless. but being an animation worker and seeing colleagues and colleagues of colleagues on this list, i just want to do what i can to spread the word. if you follow me, you like cartoons. you likely like at least one of the cartoons mentioned above. please show your gratitude any way you can. and please again know that this is just a small fraction--i highlight the animation workers since it hits very close to home, but there are so many other people who need the same resources and help. i know there's a lot going on, and a lot of fundraisers to tend to certainly outside of the LA fires. but i just hope to pass the help forward and hope that you will do the same. thank you.

Other distinguished attendees included Andrew Leung Kwan-yuen, the President of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, as well as government officials such as Joseph Chan Ho-lim, Deputy Director of the Financial and Treasury Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Raistlin Lau Chun, Deputy Director of the Cultural, Sports, and Tourism Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Chen Jiaxian, Chairman of the Arts Promotion Committee of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Wu Zhihua, Director of the Hong Kong Palace Museum, Peter Ren Jingxin, CEO of Cyberport Hong Kong, and Professor Wang Yang, Deputy President of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, in his video emphasized that Web 3.0 represents a new direction for the development of the internet, integrating technologies that have garnered considerable attention in recent years. It has the potential to drive the future development of finance and trade. The government places significant importance on the development of financial technology and Web 3.0, maintaining an open and inclusive attitude towards innovators engaged in global virtual asset businesses. The government plans to collaborate with financial regulatory bodies to create a favorable environment, promoting sustainable and responsible development within Hong Kong's financial industry. In June of this year, the government introduced a new licensing regime for virtual asset trading platforms and is actively exploring regulatory arrangements for stablecoins. Moreover, Hong Kong is actively working to establish itself as an international innovation and technology center, as well as a hub for cultural art exchange between China and foreign countries. The convergence of art and technology represents a new development direction. To actively promote and support the development of art and technology, the government has allocated substantial funds through various programs to encourage the integration of technology into appropriate cultural and artistic projects, driving the development of art and technology. Over HKD 100 million has been allocated, benefiting 324 organizations and individuals engaged in art and technology-related initiatives. The government will continue to support the integration of art and innovative technology, encouraging artists and art groups to leverage technology to conceive, create, and present unprecedented forms of artistic expression, providing audiences with new and enriched artistic experiences.

Joseph Chan Ho-lim, Deputy Director of the Financial and Treasury Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, expressed agreement with the potential of Web 3.0 and blockchain to become trends in the future development of finance and trade. With proper regulation, these technologies can enhance efficiency and transparency, thereby addressing or even solving current issues in settlement and payment. In the 2023-2024 fiscal budget, the government has allocated HKD 50 million to accelerate the development of the Web 3.0 ecosystem and facilitate cross-sector business collaboration. Hong Kong is committed to driving sustainable development across various financial services on the virtual asset value chain, including virtual asset issuance, tokenization, trading and payment platforms, financial and asset management, as well as custody services.

The Web 3.0 distributed cross-border private domain e-commerce platform, Dtop Universal Carnival Asia was invited to attend this forum as a global consensus node of Web 3.0. The platform shared its role as a commercial scene provider in the era of Web 3.0, actively constructing a global commercial scene consumer ecosystem that connects online retail, travel, local life, and other consumption applications, offering users convenient global digital consumption scenarios, and realizing the sustained ecological value of joint construction, governance, and sharing.

On the same evening, the "ITA2023 Digital Art Gateway" charity appreciation banquet was held.
