XKit on mobile and ad free tumblr experience

So with Google making adblocking basically impossible soon and Youtube also being a pita with the adblocking on Chrome and also me seeing so much griping around the tumblr app, I wanted to show everyone how to get an XKit enhanced, ad-free experience on mobile.

This works as of December 2023.

Please note that this tutorial is for Android, as I don't use iOS, I'm not sure how it would work there. Although I'm sure some trial and error will help.

This will only work with Firefox Nightly or Firefox Beta. I'm personally using Firefox Nightly, but it really doesn't matter that much.

Go to "Settings" and scroll down to "About Firefox Nightly". Tap on the logo 5 times in order to enable debug mode. A popup will tell you that debug mode is enabled.

When you go back to "Settings", a new item will have appeared, "Custom Add-Ons Collection". You want to open that. Then you type in 18195107 for the collection and name is "tumblr" or something similar.

Note: This is my collection. You can make your own collection very easily! I've just done this for my own convenience regarding wanting to have all the add ons I'm usually using in one place for mobile. Go wild with whatever you want to add here.

This collection contains:

µBlock Origin

XKit Rewritten

Tampermonkey

The app will be restarted automatically.

Now you can go to the add ons section of Firefox and enable the apps that you want.

Done!

Under the cut I'm showing what I filter for µBlock Origin, how to export XKit Settings from desktop to mobile. I'll talk about Tampermonkey in another post.

XKit Settings export

If you don't want to enable all your XKit stuff again on mobile, it's very easy to export from desktop. Go to your XKit Settings, then Backup and either download it or copy it all and paste it into a draft email or whatever:

Then pick the Import function on your mobile browser and paste it there. Done! So easy! No more ads, quick reblog enabled, and all your other settings there!

µBlock Origin Filters

For mobile, I don't usually use the dashboard unfucker, because the new tumblr layout doesn't annoy me that much....except for tumblr Mart etc. (tumblr Live gets taken care of by XKit, thankfully) So to get rid of those go to your µBlock Origin Dashboard -> My Filters

Enter:

I mostly use the built in filter lists:

And yeah, that's it! Much better experience than the mobile app. I only use that to track notifications, really, but for browsing I use the browser only. This is partially to avoid triggers, because this way I don't even have to see the ominous "This post was filtered because it contains X trigger, we just re-traumatized you, you're welcome!" message tumblr is so fond of when filtering posts.

i gave in and made a human-oid (android but not incredibly robot-like) design for him just for this also heres the full design (not polished and just a sketch but you get it)

me explaining a bit (a lot) about it under cut if thats alright

hes just supposed to look like a random average guy but make it an android he has a more mechanical body under the clothes, over the fact he almost got a job in the manufacturing department but now hes clothed to look more "welcoming" since hes was supposed to be seen, and be around humans in general because of the relaxation center monitor thingie i dont want him to look like straight up a twink (no offense i love twinks) just average also the design is kinda based off an oc and a cbc i made of the curiosity core for the face/body

it’s alright tbh, i only enjoy some (hermitcraft) ships like this one when my friends are into them but im pretty removed from the docsuma scene in general aside from dbhc. the individual characters are silly and the chemistry is entertaining, but i don’t watch either of them on my own time or actively think abt the ship. i simply like them to support my friends.

i hated airpods & phones with those big fugly cameras in the back when they were announced as a concept & i hate them even more each time i see that hideousness in person

feeling incredibly unprepared for my med appointment today

#i only have original copies of my diagnosis documents #because i can't get my printer to work #and i have nothing but the cvs app to prove my prescription #and i can't even take a screenshot of that because it's blocked due to policy on android #supposedly that's to protect someone taking my info ig #but it's me! i want to take my own info!#all of the papers i have show my meds at a lower dose #idk #i'm hoping if they take my docs they'll make copies (i'm gonna ask or else i won't hand my docs over)#but like idk what to do about my med dosage though #i did write down my mental health treatment history + why i want to see this provider + how each diagnosis effects me so i don't forget #anything #i'm just really nervous #because i am going into the appointment with one of my main goals being adhd meds #and i'm just afraid that that's too suspicious #even though i have a diagnosis and need them #idk i just fear getting denied because i come across wrong idk #and one of my important papers has an incorrect diagnosis on it but i still need to give the papers for the other info on it #<- i got a borderline diagnosis from someone one time and that's the thing some people do when they see non-men with autism #because obviously autism is only for little boys #so like i don't have bpd #but that says i do #but every other provider has said no you don't #but i have nothing documenting the no you don'ts #so like i just need them to believe me because i exhibit no symptoms of it #but i'm terrified they won't believe me #sorry this is so so so so much rambling i am so so so so nervous for this #all of these tags are such great evidence for the anxiety disorder i have a diagnosis for lmaooooooooooooooooooo i hate it here #zip quips
