How did you get so good at anatomy yours is genuinely so so good
thank you, i really appreciate that !! even though i simplify a lot of shapes and make things a bit cartoony i am a big fan of anatomy and physiology.. i just think its neat……
things that have helped me get the hang of it:
learning the relationship between the skeletal system, the muscular system, and how they interact to make you move
going out anywhere and sketching people from life – they dont have to be any good, just the action of doing some quick sketches helps you get a feel for the shapes. i have so so so many awful sketches but thats just part of it lmao
getting really invested in media and making a shit ton of fanart helps because it gives you a ridiculous amount of practice sdksj
once you kind of get a feel for it you can mess around with it. im definitely not the authority on anatomy and i put shape/flow over accuracy a lot of times, but just. same as every skill, an absurd amount of practice will always make for improvement

I was pouring a promised libation out to Hermes, Apollo, Aphrodite, and Dionysus this afternoon (I'd asked them for help with a personal matter involving a sibling) and as I was looking up at the sky talking about the situation I saw three hawks start to circle something a little ways in the distance. Hawks aren't exactly uncommon here but it had been a while since I'd seen any, let alone three at once, so it caught my attention.
And while I was trying to figure out what type of bird they were (not an eagle, too short a neck to be a vulture, etc) one of them swooped down into a neighbor's backyard and back up along the tree in my backyard, close enough that, if a branch weren't in the way, I would have been able to see its feather markings. While hawks were somewhat usual, experiencing that certainly was not. So, of course, when I got inside I looked up if any Greek gods are associated with hawks.
And, of course, Apollo is.
I've been thinking a lot about the difference between "this is just a Thing That Happens" and a sign so it was nice to see a direct example of how something differs when it's coming from a god.
#to be clear: i confirmed both today's instance and the last one (the sun coming out from behind a cloud directly after pouring a libation)#via divination. im checking my work#i said i needed direct & outside (aka not from within my own head) communication and apollo went 'on it'#i appreciate it. he's been the most communicative so far but hermes has too#got another whopper of a tarot pull during today's check-in after asking hermes for help w/ communicating like i did last time#they've been pretty intertwined so far. ive been focusing a lot on getting my etsy up & running though so it makes sense as an intersection#of their domains#aphrodite and hestia have been a bit more subtle so far but still there#also: im not trying to do augury here. not touching that w/ a ten foot pole it's scary & im still trying to wrap my head around when to use#the alphabet oracle im not ready for that level of complicated. i just took the type of bird & the fact that it's behavior i havent#seen before. and when i say it swooped over my backyard i mean it was *directly* over my head. it was wild#i wouldnt have gone to 'hm this may be an acknowledgement/sign' if it were just the hawks circling over head#i also appreciate that hermes hasnt tried to fuck with me yet. trying to parse that while im still getting my pagan sea legs would be#a nightmare and may have just put me off paganism entirely. i was drawn to hellenic paganism *because* there wasnt a constant warning about#potential tricksters looming overhead#coriander says#hellenic pagan#helpol#hellenic polytheism#apollo#hellenic community#theoi#pagans of tumblr#paganism#hellenic gods#ill remember all the associated symbols/animals/plants eventually#lowkey thinking of making flashcards lol. could be fun

I spent all of Saturday cleaning the house from top to bottom, dog walking and grocery shopping, I let myself have today to rest (especially as I have a cold brewing) and my brain is like. Unacceptable. Put to death immediately ✌️

I've been feeling increasingly burnt out with wanikani and bunpro over the last 2ish months and there's definitely non-language learning reasons why (part time job throwing off my routine was a big one) but I do kind of feel like I've hit a spot with both where the marginal returns on effort I put in are starting to diminish
like bunpro was outstanding for the first few months of futzing with it but lately it feels like a lot of the phrases they're discussing are either easy to interpret the meaning/usage of without thinking too hard, or express something in an odd way that's hard to imagine the use case of
and then with wanikani it's like, just a looooot of busywork. I doubt it's ever gonna be purely wasted effort but it's very time consuming and again, a lot of the kanji are specific enough that I haven't seen them or ones that I see all the time and know common words they're used in already
meanwhile the class I'm taking assigns a lot of homework, so I'm getting my basic mechanical practice in through there a couple days a week anyway (though admittedly it's at a much lower level). But, the class is an avenue for practice with listening and speaking, which are the skills I always feel have been lagging incredibly far behind dealing with text.
it doesn't feel like I'm hitting a wall per se, because I still think the whole pursuit is generally engaging, and going back to looking at cardcaptor after plugging away for a few months I can really feel a difference in comprehension. like to the point where it's possible to enjoy without getting so lost I have to stop and go look things up. it's just that with those services specifically I feel like I'm plateauing.
but on the other hand I guess if I feel this way about those sites, then maybe they've done their job for the moment and the play is to pivot to spending the time I'd be using on flashcards fumbling though native language media and remembering misskey exists, etc, until it feels like I'm back to being out of my depth and like I could use the boost again.

Another Fanfic Sample
“Do you want to try saying it?” I asked gently.
Narrowed eyes lowered to his bouncing leg. His palm pressed harder into it to still the motion. Once it was only a minor bouncing of his heel in the air he shook his head.
“Is alright. Perfectly fine,” I reassured. “Maybe I can guess it. Can you gesture for me what you want to say?”
He took a deep measured breath. Glanced at me warily. I smiled encouragingly. A few minutes went by in silence. Then, slowly, he patted his arms.
            “Arms.”
He nodded. Glanced warily at me again before making a sweeping gesture that ended in a loose self-hug.
“Arms… thrashing? No. Too smooth of a movement. I’ll get it.”
He took another measured breath. Turned more toward me on the couch. Repeated the sweeping motion with an added emphasis on grabbing air before pulling his arms back into a loose self-hug.
“Hugging. Hugging air? Hugging… Oh! Your arms are empty! They feel empty at night?”
He ducked his head. Pulled his legs up on the couch to tuck under him. The look he gave me once his blanket was carefully repositioned said it all.
“It’s not stupid James. Lots of people like to snuggle at night. Maybe you’re a snuggler and you didn’t know it,” I suggested.
            His expression soured further.
“My arms have that empty feeling at night.”
            Widening eyes. Slightly parted lips.
            I giggled.
“Is true. I can’t stand sleeping without something in my arms.”
He licked his lips. Pulled a shallow breath in through his mouth like he might say something. No words came. Instead a hand darted out from under the blanket for the flashcards.
