⚔✊All the little angels, rise up, rise up...
This is a redraw of a very old piece, because Vimes deserves better than 2019-me's art skills.
That is not to say I look down on the original, I still love it, and it was one of my best drawings at the time. This redraw is a tribute to the Treacle Mine Road Revolution, to Pratchett's writing, to its impact on my life, to little-me, and to the passage of time.
Rise up!

Honestly, now whenever I see racism, or prejudice, or general oppression of the poor and downtrodden in fantasy, I can't but imagine Commander Sam Vimes of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch in the middle of it.
Just started The Druid's Call, and you *know* Vimes would have suspicion and prejudice against Tieflings -- but also that his recognition of their personhood and citizenship would far outweigh that.
And that at some point the aristocracy would get wind of it, and tell Vetinari that there must not be any Tieflings in the Watch. Which Vetinari would make sure to pass on to Vimes. He would make it very clear that the aristocracy do not wish to see any Tiefling officers and would be very upset with the Commander were he to hire some...
...and as Vimes leaves, he would realise he's been played once again.

Vetinari comes over for his weekly dinner at the Ramkin-Vimes house (estate) and Sybil is running around in work mode and just goes "Havelock dear, will you hold this a minute?"
It's a dragon. She handed him a dragon. It's wheezing little gusts of smoke and chewing on Vetinari's sleeves.
Vimes is looking on in terror, wondering how long his wife has to live.
Vetinari, secretly, is quite pleased. The dragon reminds him of Wuffles.

Happy Glorious 25th of May one and all, Sam Vimes is the only person alive (who isn’t a History Monk) who remembers the real John Keel’s actions during the original events surrounding the People’s Republic of Treacle Mine Road and that knowledge will die with him.  Wear the lilac and have a hard boiled egg in Keel’s honor because he Did the Job that Was in Front of Him and a man’s not dead while his name’s still spoken!

the Watch of Ankh-Morpork is fascinating to me because it's the closest thing ive seen in any fiction to an actually *good* police force
but you know why?
because the thieves' and assassins' guilds and Chrysoprase's gang are the ones who hold the monopoly on violence!
the Watch is just fundamentally a different kind of institution than actual irl police is! and it works!

Lego Discworld - Pseudopolis Yard
Tumblr media
Ankh-Morpork "B model" - Pseudopolis Yard interior during the events of The Truth: - Angua doing "chemical analisys" for Cheery in the forensics lab. - Foul ole Ron revealing Wuffles to Sam Vimes in Sam's office. - Carrot chatting to Otto while doing paperwork in the lobby / filing room. - Scharissa interviewing Igor about Vetinari's condition in the bullpit / break room. - Vetinari "sleeping" in one cell and Drumknott fretting in the next. - Detritus equipping a recruit in the armory.

It is four o'clock and all is well!
I've been re-reading Discworld, so have my Discworld-sona ^^
Meet Special Constable Elliott "Pen-pusher" Laufeyson!
She's a citizen of Quirm and resident of Ankh-Morpork.
She works for the Times, and is a special constable of the Watch (they're kinda like the citizens' militia, enrolled only in case of emergency).
She had an internship at the Palace once, and won't shut up about it.
She really likes female dwarf fashion, especially where footwear is concerned.
Neither Elliott nor Laufeyson are quirmian names, so either she's got ancestors from Nothingfjord, or it's a fake name. Her colleagues don't care either way.
She's trying to get ankh-morporkian citizenship.
Bonus: my actual, physical, honest to the gods Ankh-Morpork City Watch Special Constable badge:

Ankh-Morpork City Watch Tournament Finale!
Cheery came from Überwald, originally trained in the Guild of Alchemists, was thrown out when she blew up the Guild's council, and then got hired by the Watch to be its first (and for a long time only) forensic scientist. She found her first city friend in Angua, and as a result became the first openly female dwarf member of the Watch and, for that matter, of the whole dwarfish race. This caused a cultural revolution and a notable degree of unrest among the dwarfs. In reaction, many dwarfs are finding that their 'sons' are dabbling in make-up and heeled boots; indeed, are beginning the journey to "coming out" (this is really not too far-fetched a comparison) as female thanks to her.
Angua is a werewolf, from a noble werewolf family in Überwald. She has a reliable nose and can track any thief, killer, or miscellaneous miscreants. She is constantly on guard against her animalistic instincts. She strives to be a vegetarian (at least in human form) and pays for the chickens she eats as a wolf, because animals don't. She has occasional dog-like habits and problems; she finds Mr. Fusspot's squeaky bone toy hard to put down, for example, and has both a bed and a basket in the place where she lives.

Just finished Guards! Guards! - Aka the first book in everyone’s favourite discworld series, if you’re to beleive the polls. I can see why it would be.
The skeches here are a bit rough, I know. But they’re sketches!
In the bottom corner of the second image I experimented a bit with Carrot’s hair - Everyone always draws it cut short, but wouldnt it be longer like the dwarves’?The bottom right hairdo is inspired by Aragorn from Lotr.
I tried to draw their profiles more caricature-ish than I usually do, since discworld feels very exaggerated in general. That is why, for example, Carrot is built like a barge and Vetinari has a waistline that would make victorian ladies cry tears of jelousy. I have a hard time making characters ugly in general, but I feel like i accidentally made Sybil look like a godess? Then again, the book does say ”Aincient men would’ve worshipped her”, so I suppose it’s fitting.
Also, the dragon looks like a horse. Sorry all dragon-lovers out there, they are very hard to draw.

New Freeguild Steelhelms give me some big Ankh-Morpork City Watch vibes. Like even just the humans already feel like a very motley crew.
Tumblr media
Like, I could very easily make a City Watch army or at least a Warcry team. An Ironbreaker for Cheery, a Troggoth for Detritus, and boom, City watch.
(Maybe get a gnoblar head for Nobby)

of COURSE Vimes's solution to having a state inspector asking questions at the most inconvenient time is to conscript him into the Watch

Angua von Uberwald, Ankh-Morpork City Watch captain and w—
This was orignally for that "six fanarts" meme that was popular like two years ago but this was the only one I ever got even close to finishing. It's been languishing needing a few finishing touches for some time, and I finally got around to making them. Angua has long been a favourite character of mine so I was happy to see her among the suggestions I got!
