They absolutely do get all the hugs they want!

Charles loves hugs! Hugs aren’t common in the Rowland household when his dad is around, but when he’s away, mummy spoils Charles with hugs. He quickly learns that hugs are her way of telling him he’s safe and loved. So when he’s in school, he shares them with friends. Edwin and Mr. Kutta are his favourite to hug—aside from mummy. And although Edwin isn’t much for hugs, he melts into Charles’ all the same. 

Edwin is not a hugger. He’s as picky with hugs as he is with food, and he rarely initiates them. The only times he does is when he’s with Charles and/or his dads, but his dads reassure him that that’s fine. While Niko hugs people as freely as Charles, Crystal would rather someone hold her hand in comfort when she’s sad; Edwin’s learned that people show love and support in all sorts of different ways.

Crystal did not grow up with hugs. She was brought up to be a proper, polite young lady, and affection wasn’t something she’s used to. Hugging is new and awkward for her, but Niko and Charles are teaching her how to do them properly. And although Crystal still finds hugging a bit weird, she’s learned to see them as another way to show affection with her friends and her beloved butler. She’s practicing hard so when her aunties come to visit, she can hug them perfectly.

Niko believes her mama, papa, and baba hugged her as soon as she was born. Mama and baba made sure to let her know every day that they both love her very much through hugs, and although Niko knows hugs can mean so many different things, she thinks they’re the simplest and best way to show someone they’re important to you. She would hug the whole world if she could! So if she refuses to hug you… well. That just means she doesn’t like you very much.

Thomas is very prickly with hugs. Because he only knew Papu, Auntie Tess, and his toy Burger for the longest time, he’s only really comfortable hugging them and a few other people, like his best friend Niko and maybe Crystal. And although he’d rather initiate hugs, he’s learned that sometimes he has to wait for friends to tell him it’s okay to hug them. Thomas would really love to hug Edwin, and he’s currently practicing how to ask him for one politely at home with Papu.

Monty is not used to hugs as well. Esther isn’t a very affectionate mother, and as an ambitious actress, she’s often busy with new projects. But once Charles hugs him for the first time, Monty discovers he quite likes them, and begins asking for them in his own way. Thomas is his favourite to hug—he privately thinks the chase and the squeaky noises Thomas makes are absolutely hilarious.

Hello! We do musical shows! We started as cover artists, but one of our members is a very talented composer and began writing songs for us. None of us really know how to play instruments aside Kumo, so she usually plays piano when we perform. Other than that we mostly sing, with pre-recorded backing tracks.

What do you do when you're stuck on a scene?

Hoo boy. This got long. Third question's answer is under the cut

The first would be family in every sense. How I was raised, how certain actions (or lack thereof) were treated by adults raising me, the circumstances of my family at different times in my life, and genetics. The second would be relationships I've had, whether friendships or mentorships or just knowing people who would influence me in some way or another. (Shout out to the really nice lady who owns the weird little museum/gift shop who gave me free bones and sold me tarot cards!) And the third would be the Internet because unrestricted internet access from the age of 11 probably rewired some shit that cannot be unwired.

I started this blog because I was 14 and ambitious. I kept a notebook of writing prompts and realized I could run a writing prompt blog after discovering many other people doing the same (via reposts of tumblr screenshots elsewhere). So now, 7—nearly 8—years later, I am still here.

When I'm stuck on a scene, it depends on why I'm stuck.

If it's something like “I'm so tired I can't think of a single sentence to continue” I stop and rest. I might take a break for bodily functions or sustenance if it turns out my brain was too focused on writing to remember those things.

If it's “Okay, and—hm. This sentence is wrong. [backspace] [rewrite] Wait, this version is wrong, too.” I switch to either doing something else or writing something else. I remember reading a post that referred to "mental crop rotation" as a good strategy for when things stagnate. I often have 2-3 WIPs I work on at a time depending on my mood.

And if it's because I can't think of anything to happen next, I also do mental crop rotation for something else I can continue or try to build up my knowledge.

Reading published works helps people write better because it establishes rules you can follow or break. It can also ingrain certain things like grammar structure or syntax or diction without giving you the same lectures as teachers give you when you're a teenager. (But have kept some books from my assigned reading in high school because some of it Actually Helped.)

Additionally, if you're playing around with different things like tropes commonly found in movies or TV, it makes sense to try to give yourself a base. Not just "wow this movie was so good" or "that sucked so bad i'm gonna think about it for the rest of my life" or "wow i already forgot what this was about" but figuring out why.

Short version:

Ensure you have attended to all bodily functions and maintenance (or as many as you can)

Check to see if you're stagnating and need to do something else/work on something else

If all else fails: enter an incubation period where you gain more knowledge whether actively (taking notes) or passively (have turned writer brain OFF). If you are getting frustrated while Active, you might need to find ways to turn writer brain OFF.

2. Which fis is my pride and joy?

Ok that's a tough one.

Weirdly these were both written for challenges 😅

I think I will always be proud of myself for writing Remembrance and writing a poem within a strict word count.

For prose I would say I'm most proud of On Magic and Beds I had so much fun with the world building and magical theory while fitting it into the word count I was given and the last sentence will always hit so hard.

10. Is there a character or ship I would love to write but haven't yet?

This is also tough because there are so many, I'm gonna split this up by fandom

From Harry Potter which most of my published fics are for, I want to write Oliver Wood and Marcus Flint. Or possibly I just want to go back to writing Growing Through Life as they both are planned to show up a bunch in that (especially Oliver)

Ship wise I really want to write Harry/Luna (or Harry/Luna/Spencer Reid from criminal minds) and I do have ideas for this I just want to finish some current WiPs first. (I'm also less into HP than when I was younger)

I technically have a Criminal Minds fic but currently it's more a Marvel fic with one CM character so I do really want to write for other CM characters.

I'm much more into 911, DC and Danny Phantom over Harry Potter these days and I would love to write for all 3 fandoms (or maybe dcxdp) but I would want to watch/rewatch the shows and read some more of the DC comics before I really started planning fics

Did Charles ever fall into a lake perhaps during a school outing? Did Edwin hug him to keep him warm after that?

Or did Charles get lost after he had a fight with someone and Edwin talked with him to keep him company until they were found?

So far, nothing like that happened to Charles! But sometimes, just like any 4–year-old, Charles gets sad. Once, when Edwin noticed, he wanted to make his bestie feel loved and decided to make Charles a whole book all about Charles!

Charles couldn’t believe ten whole pages of nice things about himself.

Beth Riley, RN is a fandomless OC lovingly and painstakingly crafted from the ground up, a charitable and compassionate character so sweet you ache to see it, and she has dynamism and range the depth and width of an ocean. Both Beth and her mun Turtle are fantastic beings... so much so, it can be difficult to tell which one is real!

@morgansmornings - Another fandomless OC blog that easily incorporates into many verses. Jayden might be pouring your coffee or taking the safety off her service weapon; whatever the task, she does it with a smile. Stoat is a wonderful person, well worth befriending, and the plots are terribly fun!

@defectivexfragmented - An indie Marvel multimuse blog dedicated to the never-dull lives of Bucky Barnes, Clint Barton, and Matt Murdock (Winter Soldier, Hawkeye, and Daredevil respectively). How this mun manages to pump out so much content, I've no idea. I'm confident I'll learn the secret - what do you MEAN "just write it"? That can't be it...

@arachnidbit - An indie Spider-Man blog, inspired specifically by the Insomniac video games. Not only are they prolific, this mun has the voice of Yuri Lowenthal's Peter down cold. You know it's good content when you can hear the character in your head reciting the dialogue on the page. If you want Insomniac's Spidey, this is most definitely the one for you!

@smolcuriouskitten - Rockelle is just your average magical alien catgirl multi-platinum recording artist! ... What? Those are a dime a dozen, right? The description may seem a tad bit cracktastic, but trust me when I say this fandomless OC is delightful to write with, because the mun's only expectation is that you have fun with the writing! Rocky is really a treasure of a character to help cleanse your palate if you've been into heavy themes a bit too long.

@kylo-wrecked - I'll be honest about this one, I really never expected to see such range and such fiercely prolific devotion to this character. Dedicated to Ben Solo / Kylo Ren of Star Wars, this blog waves a proud banner over its myriad divergences and vast panoply of verses. Ben might be a family man, a politician, a dark devotee, a musician, a murderer... a world with him truly is your oyster, and a story with him is an unforgettable treasure.

I believe Kumo's is yellow, mine is blue, Hare's is pink, and Hyou's is oh, Teal? I'll have to confirm with them, but I'm pretty sure I got them all right!
