so I had my theoretical necromancer DnD PC, who helped exorcise (some of) my grad school demons
I really want to either bring her to another campaign, or play another academic PC (school of scribes wizard?) because I'm doing this project for school that's "write a policy manual for a fake library" and my group set it in a dnd-inspired fantasy world and I'm having way too much fun making up fake in-universe journals and books to cite from
(we're also the only group in class doing an archive and we're going HOG WILD. It makes some things more difficult but it's also giving us a lot more leeway because "a wizard did it" is a valid excuse here)

Yesterday's session involved a PC watching a suspect in a murder case sleep with a lady for hire to see if he'd bite her so they'd have proof he's a vampire (he is). They're planning to submit the Encode Thoughts recording of that to the Lords of Waterdeep.
D&D, y'all.

//a lot of his tidbits/backstory will change by the time we start the one-shot and I'm better versed in the universe's lore, so this is more of a WIP placeholder
Type: PC
Game: Pathfinder
Level: 10
Aliases: If you call him anything but his name you will find yourself with your face in a bucket within two to three business days.
Pronouns: He/Him
Race: Elf
Home: N/A
Age: 496
Class: Druid
Background: Ooze Tender
Heritage: Ancient Elf
Ancestry Feats: Alchemist Dedication, Elven Weapon Familiarity, Otherworldly Acumen
Spell of Choice: Cloud Kill, Goblin Pox
Weapon of Choice: Nightstick and Poisonous Dagger
Job: Ooze Tender (formerly), "Adventurer" (currently)
Loyalty: Himself
Alignment: N-ish. Not sure how I'll play him yet. I can't make him evil bc that wouldn't match the party, but I know he won't be a good dude.
Height: 6'3
Personality: Irritable but stoic, callous, in it for the money and freedom and nothing else.
Status: Alive
Strategy: Either make it look like an accident or gas them.
Tidbits:
He murdered his employer and made it look like an accident. They worked with oozes, after all. Shit happens. He was tired of being treated like shit.
Taught himself how to use poisons and acids to counteract some of the crap the oozes would try to pull on him or their prey.
He's out on this little adventure to get enough money to settle down somewhere nice and retire.
He won't harm the party but he's not there to be their friend either. Fortunately, they're useful and he knows he's squishy and needs someone to tank for him.
He had his ears cropped to try and pass as human. His hairstyle is meant to hide it. The story is that he had an incident at work and decided to make them match. It's bullshit. Anyone who asks and gets that story knows it's bullshit. No one has pushed the subject though.

another recent DnD commission-- Burdock the gnoll tells a story by a campfire about a giant sea monster he and his party fought, with an impressive visual aid courtesy of the party’s wizard: a "miniature" model of the monster magically created with snow.
my commission queue is full of people wanting me to draw their ttrpg characters, so get ready for more of this sort of thing for the next while, lol. I’m having a lot of fun-- in my experience, some of the nicest and most enthusiastic commissioners are those asking for artwork of their PCs, because the significant length of most ttrpg campaigns lets you get very attached to your character and their adventures.

i can't ever stop thinking ab sotet, I HAVE MORE THINGS TO SAY 😭 SO ANOTHER POST. this is a pretty long one shhh
(art by gravitydusty ; i love their elden ring art sm)
Tumblr media
[ again these are all my opinions based on what is given in canon ]
SO .. MESSMER AND THE ABYSSAL SERPENT? YES?
from what his helmet description says (direct quote)
„ the winged snakes were messmer's constant companions. they were there when the base serpent was sealed away behind his eye. they were there through his eternity of suffering. they will accompany him yet, in his hideous new form, born when he destroyed the grace granted by his mother. they have accepted his fate as much as he. “
FIRST OFF? SOBBING? and shoutout base/abyssal serpent for being my boys only friend but the whole.. outer snakey being thing brings rykard to mind. obviously his whole situation is very different from messmer's as he was born with the "curse" of the base serpent and rykard simply .. offered himself to the blasphemous serpent/god devourer (rykard vore enjoyer? /J) and for obviously very different reasons and intentions than for messmer breaking his seal. rykard was power hungry and just overall giving middle child neglect vibes THOUGH HE IS A GOOD CHARACTER but i'm so biased i love elden ring shhh!
it's so incredibly ridiculous to me that mother of the year marika just.. up and exiled her son because there was a slight chance he could ruin her freaky 'holy' glowing tree. AND it wasn't enough just to exile messmer??? she continued on to manipulate him into committing atrocities for her revenge campaign and he completely went along with it out of assumed devotion, which he then clearly recants during his encounter with the tarnished/pc when he says "mother.. marika.. a curse upon thee" which i guess could be taken a few different ways but i see it as regret and resentment. realizing she was never coming back for him so he curses her with his final breath
i am the biggest marika children sympathizer because?? don't even get me started on the omens but SHE SHATTERED THE RING. for reasons unknown but then fully sanctioned her OWN children killing each other because she wanted 🥺 the strongest to reclaim the elden ring — my assumption is, she finally lost it after the black knife killed godwyn (assumedly the one child she liked el oh el) and just ?? fuck it we ball let me get all my other children killed????
IDK I WANT TO HEAR OTHER PEOPLES THOUGHTS and sorry for the long ass post lol :))) kinda turned into a marika rant but i have some words for her

hey to a gorgug liker what do you think about his nightmare section from sophomore year? cause I feel like the horror there is less “ah my grandparents were racist” and more “fuck am I being a stereotype? are the people who hate me right about me?” cause wrt to his having to modulate between barbarian and artificer in fhjy it’s like. idk
oh boy do I have thoughts
Tbh, I had zero recollection of the racism stuff until reading this. It was just SO MINOR. His trial in the forest felt really lackluster to me. I feel like everyone else's really dug into an issue at the core of their character and his felt more like "everyone is getting a trial, what do we do for gorgug?" And idk if that was just a bad delivery/call on Brennan's part or if it could have been helped by Zac engaging more in it but it just. Didn't feel like anything. It was a lot more about the dice than the horror of the claustrophobia and the bugs and you've never fit in anywhere you live to make yourself smaller wherever you go you're just the loser who hits hard. Like yeah I guess there was an overarching theme of Gorgug gaining confidence in himself but it was done very poorly imo.
And I think his trial in the forest was wrong for putting such an emphasis on his intelligence. I think that would have been much better suited in fy, back when he was still being heavily bullied, but beyond that it felt like a quick and easy thing for them to grab. Yes, he had insecurities about his intelligence with all the complications with Zelda. But, to me, the focus of fhsy was his HEART. It put a spotlight on how his social circle has grown, and his bully is his friend now, and he's not alone anymore. His interactions with Ayda, the friendship book, trying to help Fabian, I believe in you spring break, it's Gorgug keep going. I made a post earlier in the season (including a great addition by another user) that I think articulates that emphasis on his emotional intelligence very well.
Fhjy HOWEVER. I think it's doing everything that sy failed at. It's giving him space to have an inner conflict. It's addressing lots of little issues and conflicts he's had over the campaign and combining them into one coherent piece. Like, guy was in a relationship pretty much all of fy, and then dealt with the fallout in sy, but I don't think we've EVER seen as much quality relationship development with Gorgug as we have in jy. He and Fig spent an entire summer together trapped in a tour bus and no season has indicated that bond and friendship more than this one. He and Riz have found something to bond over, meanwhile in previous seasons there was pretty much zero one-on-one personal interaction between them. Fabian expressed sadness over Gorgug leaving the Owlbears, because it was the only thing they had that was just for them to hang out and be friends.
Just with that, we're already doing leagues more with Gorgug's character than we ever have. And I haven't even STARTED on his barbificier journey, oh dear god lmao.
Gonna preface this bit with a post I made before the season even started. It was about Zac's steady improvement in his performances with every PC, and how I was predicting that it was gonna culminate into a Gorgug that does him the justice he deserves. It was initially supposed to be a criticism, but I got a little lost in the sauce of loving my boy lol. Still very relevant to the topic of this ask!
God, where do I START?? Addressing his relationship with rage? I'll be honest, I didn't think that would ever be used as a character arc. And I'm not even sure why I've felt that way. I just didn't think... I didn't think about how he might've had a dislike for his own rage. Like, the WAY he rages isn't bad by any means, but I don't think it ever crossed my mind how actually harmful his lessons to sing to combat rage were. No, I did not like the way Porter went about teaching him (a bit too unsupportive of his capabilities and reminiscent of shitty teachers for my liking). But his point about EMBRACING anger; that rage is not bad and does not— should not— need to be stifled. THAAAAT. That opened up such an interesting dialogue for Gorgug.
I do appreciate the beginnings of Gorgug's interest in artificing in fhsy. I think the crumbs of it back then did a great job of leading into his larger commitment to multiclassing. And I think what he's been doing with it this season is exactly what was lacking in his section of the nightmare forest. His trial was a puzzle, based entirely on die rolls, where his solution after failing even when he's assisted by the enemy is to essentially give up. I understand that facing their fears was the whole point of the trials, but his section came off as incredibly anticlimactic and unfulfilling. Just the fact that it was a trial based on stat numbers more than the development of the character itself.
Where junior year succeeds in actually showcasing his intelligence and the evolution of the worth he holds in himself is with the hands-on approach it takes. Yes, the academic rolls are still dice and stats, but there's a physical manifestation that wasn't there before. Gorgug is smart when it comes to getting his hands dirty. It is in the practical applications of his skills that his brand of intelligence shines the most.
And while, once again, I did not LIKE Porter's heavy resistance to multiclassing....I have to admit that I don't think Gorgug would have had such a boost in confidence without that struggle. Even if my boy had trouble expressing it to Porter verbally, HE STOOD UP FOR HIMSELF. Instead of simply rolling over and agreeing that he wasn't built for a technical class and it was stupid to try– he was DEFIANT.
The kid who said "I'm a dumbass. Eat me you stupid bug." took on FOUR CLASSES. Three school years worth of artificer simultaneously. AND stayed with the Owlbears. AND went along on party missions to help Kristen's candidacy. AND was always on deck to help the party with the overarching plotline.
AND HE ACED IT!!! THE FIRST BARBIFICER THAT THE AGUEFORT ADVENTURING ACADEMY HAS EVER SEEN!!!!! He is paving the way for every unprecedented multiclass that follows.
Just in comparison to who he was in the previous season, the amount of drive and self-worth he's gained is astounding. In my eyes, it's done more than enough to makeup for the way his development fell flat in sophomore year.
i hope this fulfilled the ask in the way you were hoping! i told you i'd get carried away lmao. writing a bunch about any of zac's characters is always such a joy. gorgug had always been my favorite of the bad kids but i always found myself wishing he went deeper, y'know? and now it's real. my precious anxious boy has been handled so well. and watching zac's growth as a performer has been such a blast.
thanks for the ask! :D

I know you said you need to stop screaming first but I am EAGERLY awaiting your thoughts on Essek in the teaser
OKAY OKAY HERE GOES.
The thing is, there's no real reason to include him.
Yes, he's very popular, but he has never historically been included as a default, validly! He occupies a very interesting space mechanically and narratively, but he is still not a PC. Yes, he's part of the Mighty Nein as a group, per canon, but not until the end, which in theory would be well beyond the first season, and so is Cad, who is not present in this teaser—presumably to preserve the mystery around [INSERT MAJOR SPOILER WARNING HERE].
I would imagine that Cad is not present because having Taliesin's voice twice is too much of a tipoff for anyone watching LoVM but not the campaigns, whereas simply having Matt voice someone is not.
HOWEVER.
There are a decent number of lines that you could choose for Essek that are about the Nein—personally, my favorite, that I've thought previously would make a really stellar trailer line, is from 124: "You certainly carve a unique destiny, don't you?" Everything down to the way Matt delivers it (which you can see here) would make it a really viable option.
But the line they went with isn't about the Nein—it's very much a line about Essek himself. "I want to unlock these mysteries. I want to dive as deep as I can into that ocean of the unknown and see what is possible." It's a line that is very specific to Essek and his actions and goals, even beyond his involvement with the Nein.
And it's placed in the middle of the pack, which frames him on the same level as the rest of the Nein! Someone who is not familiar with the campaign would hear that as simply another protagonist. But of course, he's not—unless there is some serious restructuring (more even than the restructuring present in LoVM, which, aside from introducing a few of the initial less plot-bearing aspects later, like the Slayer's Take, it's thus far structured in order), he won't come into the show for quite some time, and almost certainly not in the first season.
But we don't really have any idea how this show will be structured. There are different comments on the beginning from different sources; notably, Gizmodo mentions Calianna being present in some way initially, while no one else does. The logline most outlets are reporting revolves the Nein "prevent[ing] the kingdom from plunging into chaos when an arcane artifact capable of reshaping reality falls into the wrong hands," presumably the beacon (my beloved).
So it makes sense to mention Essek, for, you know, the obvious reasons, as comment on the beacon itself. (I'm going to guess they're simplifying it to one beacon, per the press release, for ease lol.) But this line, while about dunamancy as a whole and the powers of the beacon, is not about it directly. It's still about Essek's interest in it. It is an excellent line, and on its face, it has nothing to do with the Nein or the plot of the first fifty episodes of the campaign.
There's plenty of speculation to be done about how this might be structured, and I'm sure I'll do plenty of it because, let's be honest, I do not shut up about adaptation and translating stories between formats, it is one of my absolute favorite subjects, and this is the Nein, babey!!!
So my point here being: I think there is a lot of room with the nature of Wildemount politics to get a little wild with structure in the translation from D&D game to TV show that, while not impossible in LoVM, wouldn't really have added anything to the story, and honestly, might've taken away from it. Because the point is to watch Vox Machina become the big damn heroes! We do see tidbits of Brimscythe and the Briarwoods beyond the purview of the heroes, but mostly in ways that feel very '80s cartoon villain cameo' which fits the feel of the show perfectly.
But there are a lot of political players and forces in Wildemount that the Nein navigate whether they're aware of them or not, one of whom of course becomes a member of their party, and that's part of what makes their story so interesting. The Nein are the heroes that no one knows, who are always playing within and against the system and are hyper aware of that, and I think expanding how much of that we get to see now that the format allows for it (not necessarily a lot, not to the point of adding whole plotlines, but at least some of it) would only add to the tension and stakes, and Essek's presence in the trailer makes me wonder if they will.

Mighty Nein Echos of the Solstice reaction
First of all, the new art just confirms for me that the Nein are 100% the hottest of all three campaigns. holy FUCK. Also lol at 90% of them having long hair now.
I actually called Luc being Sam's PC before it was revealed! Not...not MUCH more, but when Veth didn't immediately have new artwork and she said "I have a TEENAGER", that's when I figured it'd be Luc. Look at me predicting things slightly sooner than they occur!
Did NOT call the guest PC though! Was this the fastest death? Or does Spurt still beat him out? Really did go through the full run of 9, nat 20, nat 1. What more could you ask for?
I really don't think I feel strongly one way or the other about Veth not being there and Luc being there instead. We got a lot of funny bits because of it, and it's not like Veth has fully abandoned adventuring, considering she said that next time she would. It truly seems like it was just the responsibility of the kids, which very fair. What I would love to know is Sam's thought process as to why he wanted to do it. Very intrigued.
Taliesin definitely took a few minutes to get back to Caduceus's voice, but *squeal* love him so much! Interesting that he told Yasha to 'go fuck him up', because I'm genuinely not sure if that was a bit of Ashton bleed, or if this actually broke Caduceus's desire to not swear. Could be either! XD
Yasha doing so much damage!!! Is it just because her strength score is finally good? Well, holy weapon added a bunch, maybe it's just level 20 bulk? But 110 on a NON crit??? DAAANG.
As someone who does enjoy periodic Caleb whump fanfic, this was delicious, especially his interactions with Beau. I do like that Trent ended up getting 'fate worse than death' scenario.
Combat was fun as heck even though there were things that got set up that didn't get used (crown of stars, etc), and I'm a TAD sad that Caleb ended up shapechanging as I always love some good high level spells flung around, but it was still an utter blast regardless.
SURPRISE MARRIAGE PROPOSAL!! Are they poking for another one shot?
The audience wearing Sam face masks at the beginning was the PERFECT troll move, SO MUCH.

I’m about to run another session with a super powerful archfey and i remembered all the rave reviews from the crow’s nest crew so any tips on playing archfey you wanna share? I’m excited to bring up my pc’s memory loss stolenness but i’ve struggled making fey scary in the past while also giving the pcs agency
Hi!!! This is such a good question. The archfey I played in the Crow's Nest Crew campaign are all a little different and have different things that make them scary in their own right. (more under the cut cuz I wrote A Lot lol.)
The Spider is scary because he's been a persistent threat in Fawn and Ephie's lives. He's also scary because he does pretty much whatever he wants because he finds the pain of others very funny. He also does whatever he wants because he knows that almost nothing and nearly no one will stop him. (Dying at his own tournament of pain scared him a little but he Did bounce back hehe.)
The Lady was scary because she knew too much. She knew everything about Ephie and had a proverbial leash around her neck in the form of a name she gave her. She knew a lot about the other PCs because she had eyes everywhere, including in the material plane.
I think my only real tip for playing scary archfey is to make it seem like they don't really care about consequences, bonus points if they laugh in the face of the consequences catching up to them. In my mind archfey are so so near to the gods because they have the power to bend the feywild to their will. The only thing that really separates them from the gods is that they can be killed by mortal means (getting stabbed and the like.)
Maybe your archfey could taunt your player with the memories? Like they could go "hey, remember [xyz event]? Ooh, or [abc event]? You don't, do you? Have you ever wondered why that is, or have you grown so used to not knowing that it doesn't matter anymore?" (You can use this line btw. I don't mind :3)
I hope this made sense lol I wrote more than I thought I would. Good luck with your session!!! You're gonna do great!!!

I would love to know about your DnD characters!! (My first one sort of became a chaos gremlin unintentionally because of who I am as a person lol.)
SDFSDLFH oh BOY I get to talk about my tabletop characters. (I have so many but I'm gonna talk about the ones that fall on the Chaotic Gremlin Spectrum)
Shireen:
Ok so my very first DnD character ever is a teenager named Shireen. She's a gnome grave cleric of Segojan Earthcaller. She had a spiritual weapon which was a mallet shaped like a duck made out of solid diamond that she thwacked enemies with (and often to the chagrin of our barbarian, got the final blows). Shireen's weapon of choice is a hand crossbow which is attached to her arm prosthetic. She is naive to the ways of the world and often tries to talk her way out of situations where it is absolutely not possible to talk her way out of it. She eventually became like a daughter to her grumpy barbarian and blood hunter companions.
Evuné:
I partook in an All Evil campaign where I played as Evuné (Or Evil Anya as we called her). She is a changeling profane soul blood hunter. Weapon of choice being longswords and her stupidly high deception skill. Her whole deal is she is a sleeper agent for a hostile nation and is stealing the identity of a different PC of mine (Anya) in order to get by. She is arrogant, annoying, and lucky when it counts. One of the most powerful NPCs in the setting has it out for her because she openly mocked the king in the middle of a royal procession and she has evaded him through sheer luck alone (many fortuitous Nat 20s)... oh and also she's wanted for many murders, but like it's not her fault they had stuff she wanted.
I later also played as her in BG3 as a Minthara-romancing Dark Urge.
Nima:
She's the character I'm playing in the currently active campaign I'm in. She's another profane soul blood hunter, but not evil. Her weapon of choice is an ancestral bow passed down to her by her mother. She is a hobgoblin who accidentally made a pact with a Devil and is too proud to admit that her patron isn't THAT BAD. She got kidnapped by her patron's enemy, another Devil who is threatening to enslave the entire world, and Nima's father, a prolific adventurer and also deadbeat dad, traded himself for her, allowing her to go free. So now she's autistically making her way through the world to defeat this devil and I guess also rescue her dad eventually whenever she gets around to it.
Ellie:
She's not a DnD character, but rather a character from a different tabletop system called Quasar, which is Sci-Fi Fantasy themed. She is a hacker and roboticist who is, secretly and unbeknownst to her, an Android (She believes herself to be human and presents herself as such). Her weapon of choice is explosives. Lots of them. And turrets. She also can sabotage enemies by hacking into their equipment. She has no qualms over using her powers to doxx rich people and blackmail people who get in her way, but she will never cross any lines if it makes things more difficult for her friends. She is an essential part of her party because she owns the van spaceship and also she once installed a sense of taste onto her android party member so it could taste the blood of its enemies.

oooh ok it was hard to narrow these down. for the ask meme: 4, 5, 21, 37, 38
lol i didn't even realize it was an ask meme?? i was just reblogging it because theyre interesting questions for character creation haha
answers below cut
4. How do they perceive themselves?
one person at one time and another at another. life cut into many separate lives. it's almost surprising that the memories bleed between them
5. What is your PC’s idle animation?
a cycle between worrying the strap of their shoulder bag, playing with their right earring, and clenching a fist to feel the give in the leather of their glove
21. What tarot would your PC be?
i'm limiting this question to major arcana so as not to give myself a headache. XI: Justice, reversed.
37. What flower represents your PC?
botw voltfruit
38. How did you choose your PC’s name?
was taken out back and shot by cr/tical role when i first got into tabletops. aka i copied one of their naming conventions from campaign 1. the vex/vax one. i am not proud

Okay now EYE must ask you - how are you liking BG3??? How far are you?? Tell me about your Tav!!!! (Please and thank you <3)
hi!! 💖 i only started the game a few days ago and it was an impulse decision i made after having previously told a friend of mine that i definitely wanted to play it but that it'd probably take me a while to get around to it (and, because i thought i wouldn't play anytime soon i hadn't really been trying to avoid spoilers). but, i have the PC version and while it generally runs just fine, my computer is kind of slow and the game is so big that it took hours to download and install. so i kind of went ahead and started to come up with a whole character idea during that time LOL. sorry if my explanations of things get a bit too rambly/disorganized. i'm actually not very far in the game at all yet, i've been spending a ton of time doing stuff in the druids grove and i'm supposed to go find halsin but i haven't even gotten karlach in my party yet! i've recruited all the main companions except for her but i am excited to meet her. gonna put the rest of this under a cut for length.
my only background with DND is that i listened to the first campaign of the adventure zone and i've watched the legends of vox machina show. i also have a friend who's super into her own DND campaign and another friend who's told me a lot about dimension 20, specifically fantasy high--and i've considered trying it out for her but haven't gotten around to it yet! i think she actually told me the same thing about the episode lengths making it easier to get into than critical role, because i had tried critical role and it was just so long that i couldn't stick with it. but, yeah, i've also looked at the forgotten realms wiki a bit but i've never actually played DND. i have played skyrim and final fantasy 14 and some other similar RPGs with customizable blank-slate protagonists, and in those types of games i always have to make OCs to roleplay as--usually i'll think up a basic idea to start with and then flesh the character out as i get into the game. they're never really self-inserts but i do often project onto them a little.
so, in games like these my first character is usually an elf that specializes in elemental/destructive magic. idk why, that's just what i've always liked. in ff14 i started out as a black mage without knowing it was the hardest class to play LMAO. soooo i went into this planning to create a high elf sorcerer, but as i started writing out ideas and thinking about what to do, i ended up creating a half-high elf bard. they're transmasc/nonbinary and in my head they use he/they pronouns, but i picked the nb option in the character creator and that causes npcs to actually use they/them in dialogue which i think is so cool. i love that the character creator is so inclusive in regards to gender.
anyway, i named them elenion, which is something i took from the lord of the rings universe because i'm a huge nerd. in LOTR it's an elvish word that basically means "of the stars". here's a couple screenshots i took when i first started. let's just ignore the fact that this hairstyle clips into elf ears (and also that the face preset is from a mod i downloaded).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i didn't really give him a tragic backstory or even the most interesting story haha--i'm wanting to do something bigger and angstier with another character on a second playthrough when i'm more familiar with the lore and world of the game. and i'll probably also end up changing or expanding on some things about this character later, but for now i just kind of made a normal guy with normal problems. i had this idea that his father, a human who attracted the attention of a beautiful elf woman, was also a bard and was a very successful musician in his youth. so elenion has always shared his father's passion and dreamed of being like him, being able to effortlessly tell incredible tales and inspire crowds of people through song, but no matter how much he studies and practices he never feels good enough. if he seems confident it's usually just because he's gotten really good at faking it. he's also pretty reserved and often avoids having to talk about himself by asking a lot of questions. see, i kind of wanted to specifically find a way to not roleplay the usual sort of loud, flirty, goofy bard, lol. not that i dislike those kinds of characters or anything though!
however, bards are meant to be super charismatic, witty, and persuasive and of course the game strongly encourages that with the dialogue options and skill bonuses you get. so my way of explaining this is to have elenion be a bit like raine from the owl house, in that they may be shy, but they're very firm in their ideals and are no pushover when it comes to protecting themself or their allies. they're clever and have a snarky side to them, and they're genuinely friendly and caring in a way that gives them a sense of quiet charisma. which reminds me that one of the spells i gave them at the start was sleep, and it's made me imagine that when they were a kid they tried calming a crying baby by playing a lullaby on their lute and accidentally ended up casting their first spell.
oh, and, i also wasn't really sure at first where in the world i wanted elenion to come from but i decided on something pretty quickly after getting multiple of those dialogue options suggesting that the protagonist is baldurian! i pictured them growing up in a somewhat small town with their family but moving to baldur's gate as an adult, hoping that if they left the comfort of their home and started to journey out into the world a little they'd eventually find their spark and become the bard they wanted to be. unfortunately they've had little luck so far because even after all this time they can't see that maybe their whole fixation on trying to be just like their father and achieve the exact same kind of success that he had is holding them back. the fact that their father died the year after they moved away hasn't helped either. and now, in the middle of traveling to a historical site that they'd wanted to see in person and use as inspiration for a song, they've been abducted by mindflayers and are struggling with the massive upheaval that this has brought into their relatively mundane life.
so. yeah. my tav for this first playthrough may not be the most unique or exciting character but i like him! i like figuring out what kind of choices he'll make and thinking up new ideas for what he likes and how he sees the world. also, i find it funny how in your reply to my ask you said you thought you'd be into gale but then you fell for astarion--because i thought that i'd be all over the edgy, brooding, snarky vampire man, but it turns out gale is so charming and funny that i'm probably going to romance him first. i'm also pretty intrigued by shadowheart and wyll but i'm so early in the game that i can't even say who i think my overall favorite companion will be because they all seem so interesting!! even karlach despite the fact that i haven't actually met her yet, i've seen a bunch of cool gifsets of her and my brother told me he's been romancing her on his playthrough. i really need to go find her soon.
i'm sure you can tell from everything i wrote here that i am definitely enjoying the game LOL. i can already tell that there's just so many different things to do and see, that i will both need and want to do a lot of different playthroughs and that it's going to be something that sticks with me. nothing wrong with using guides and walkthroughs btw! i do it too because i'm worried about missing too many things and have the world's worst sense of direction even with a minimap. honestly i probably need to look up some guides for certain mechanics that i don't feel like i've really figured out yet. there's a sarcophagus trap in the ruins early in the game that got me SO stuck and got my whole party wiped and then i looked up a video and found out you could turn off the whole trap system by pushing a switch... i felt so stupid askjdfgf.
anyway, i think this got to be way too long of a reply so i will stop here! but if you ever wanna tell me more about your tav or anything definitely feel free to and i hope you're having an awesome day!

Option-12? Cedona?? pls say more about your robot, what story are they from?
They're actually two separate characters! They're both Starfinder PCs!
Cedona was an Android Mystic NPC I took over when I joined an ongoing Against the Aeon Throne campaign — it's how I met a lot of my CA friends!
(Prior to this Starfinder game, the only games I'd been involved in were the 5e homebrew game I was running, and the EXTREMELY crunchy, tactical Path of War Pathfinder and Edge of the Empire campaigns I'd been playing since college. This Starfinder game was. SOOOO~ not that lol.)
The very first Starfinder session I played in was literally a funeral episode for another PC who'd perma-died right before I joined, and by the end of that session we were all bawling lol. 😂 Delightful, 100/10 gameplay experience but SUCH a whiplash for me, it totally opened my eyes to a whole new way of playing.
Cedona was quiet, subtle, graceful, and internally constantly terrified that her programming has been tampered with (it had been 🙃). She gave me my first taste of playing a PC whose backstory was intrinsically tied up in the plot and I've never looked back lol.
She also romanced the other android in the party towards the end of the game and they were very sweet together lol. Have some EXTREMELY old art about it (and the beach episode):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Option-12 was also an Android (Androids are like half-elves for me lol, I just really like them) but she was a mechanic!
She's from a Starfinder oneshot (turned into a twoshot...) that we as players all thought was a murder mystery, but LITTLE DID WE KNOW it was actually game of Among Us, which was the funniest "...hey hey hEY wait a minute!!!!" moment I have ever been a part of. 😂
Option-12 was gleaming chrome and dumb as a doorstop and she died way too soon, but for a brief and shining moment I loved her. 😂😂

hey sorry if this is weird but this is @chip-and-the-bastards (it's a sideblog so I can't ask with it) and since we're up against each other for the jrwi au showdown I wanted to ask about Blood in the Deadwood‼️ it seems like a cool au but tumblr search function isn't showing me if you have anything for it on this blog! So here take this as an opportunity to ramble about it and also maybe give some propaganda!
anyway feel free to ignore if you don't wanna aha :]
Oh HELLL YEAHHHHHH!!!!!
well first of all @tobeywobey was also very involved in making it so make sure you also give them creds ! ! He worked on a LOT of the lore so i really wanna give them proper creds lol. Also the search didnt work because both toby and I haven't post much of anything publicly about it LMAO
BASICALLY its the prime defenders characters but in a kind of Galloway/Deadwood hybrid place if that makes sense. Each character fills the role of another character(s) in blood in the bayou (for example cantrip basically plays the role of Becky in this au.) its pretty cannon compliant to the events of blood in the bayou, except for a few changes, like things happening for different reasons and events being changed. Also there is no superpowers in this au :)
the thing Toby and I changed most was probably the events leading up to the main three going back to deadwood. In this AU Dakota is the one that knows Ashe the best, Will and Vynce are less acquainted with her. This is because she fills the role of Rachel so we wanted it to closer match the relationship that Kian and Rolan had with her when they were younger. so basically Dakota introduces Ashe to the other two a couple years before the events of this AU take place in deadwood, and they all eventually leave for w own reasons. Will dies like in PD canon, is resurrected as a bug sorta like how Rolan is, except he knows that he's a bug and keeps it secret. Ashe goes missing suddenly and Mark immediately starts investigating. The boys talk to mark about any leads or information, and it all leads to Deadwood. Also somewhere along there Williams "parents" die. Some more noatable things that happen in these few years is that vynce and cantrip have a relationship thats more like a situationship, and the three of them start a dnd campaign but never finish it.
They all go to Deadwood Because of Ashe's disappearance but vynce and will also have other reasons. Vynce really wants to finish this fuckin dnd campaign, and will felt the most obligated to go because he's part of the hive (and also his parents funeral was happening there anyways.) Will is also the one that is the most hesitant to go in the first place.
Then the BITB cannon stuff happens! They greet Doug (who plays the role of rat in this AU,) go to quickstop, see The Horrors, all that stuff. They obviously react in different ways and do different things than the BITB pcs, but it all still leads to them going to points of interest and having the big events happen to them the same. One notable change is that Will sees doug in the alley, pasteified, but is really curious about what actually happened to him instead of being horrified of the human sludge (Will is so fucking insane in this au.) Another is that will convinces Dakota that they need to leave (like how kian does) but while they are driving away will and dakota get into an argument wich leads to dakota grabbing the wheel from him and they end up swerving into the membrane wall.
Unfortunately thats where we stopped writing stuff down lmao so for the propaganda section of this ramble i will be taking from the character info toby wrote
-PROPAGANDA TIME-
Vyncent is a huge fantasy nerd and he has those hot topic elf ear cuffs. Half of his character motivation is wanting to finish that godamn dnd game!!!
William wisp is 10x more insane
wiwi carries a shotgun around locked and loaded from the very beginning
vynce gets some cool buggy limbs :)
Ashe is trans mtf and in the notes we referred to getting bugged as "contracting malaria" so we called her "our malaria girlfriend" and now in my head ashe will always be my favorite malaria girlfriend ❤️
Mark kind of plays the role of John Rand and he is also in love with that stupid caveman show
Mark and tide have a perry and doofenshmirtz dynamic. They both have radically different theories on what is happening to the town and argue constantly, but when they aren't being crazy people they get along
Tide fills the role of Mr. Dickman and he has a secret bunker chalk full of beef stroganoff. He also has a huge fucking blackboard where he writes all his theories (he just has "MALARIA" written down in all caps)
Tide has a little bit of a crazy old guy reputation in town
Cantrip gets fucking shot by William because of a one sided rivalry wiwi has had since middle school
LE FROG IS OFFICER DUDES‼️‼️
This concludes the ramblings, i wish everyone happy voting and good luck in the au torment!!! :D
