I always think of this scene and the feast with Sarrum in conjunction.
Arthur seems betrayed over and over again by Morgana, like every time is the first time, because it feels like the first time to him
He’s always had the uncanny ability to stand up for her in court, behind Uther’s back for sure, but he had made her a priority when she showed up at his door
And on his trips. And for his counsel. And at his battles. Wherever she invited herself along, he would make the effort to see her, and value her input, like she was equally as important as an advisor even as a cast-off ward, or however much a nobody the rest of the court perceived her- ‘high strung’ and valuable only to look at
…He would think of her, and her well-being, constantly
Even if he had to smile through the pain and lift his goblet at Sarrum, even if he had to put up the pretense of not caring
Just like he said in ‘Lancelot and Guinevere’ - “my Father is right Morgana” when she had begged him for help publicly
But afterwards, when he retires to his chambers, he would put on his armor for Morgana
Take up his sword and shield
And believe her
Even if he must do it in secret…
And that’s what makes this scene all the more heartbreaking to me, because yes, appearances can be deceiving
And he had his friends and family fooled all along, if they believed he had ever stopped loving her
Kevin watching Jean ask Jeremy if he's okay, watching Jean offer to hold Laila's bag so she can fix her shoe, watching Jean hand Cat a granola bar before a game because she looked a little unsteady. He's not jealous, he had his time by Jean's side. Maybe it's grief. Grief for something that was never so innocent, never so untouched by cruel hands, something that could've been better if they were anyone else. Grief for something that's long passed and can never be fixed to be made better than before. He had his time at the receiving end of Jean's concerned glances. Maybe he's just a little sad that when he's at an away game, he no longer buys post cards for a friend. Maybe he just misses this person who used to always be by his side but they both knows it's better this way. Jean is happy, it's not with Kevin, and that's okay.

(Idk why but people don’t appreciate varadha side of friendship enough. He literally went against his father’s order and gave away his biggest territory for his friend’s safety. He chose to be rather humiliated, looked down and disgraced by everyone than tell why he did that so his friend can be safe. that too for over 25 years(dyk how many days that is)and he was only a 10 years old child. When his father asked him if he knew the kadha’s value,of course he did why would not he? but there was something more valuable for him.His only friend. His Bestfriend. How was he suppose to measure it when he knows what deva means to him. He knew what would happen if he did that but still he gave it away like nothing cus nothing matters except deva to him.he had made his decision. He let his only friend go and he was ready if this meant to be their last meet if it means his friend would be safe and if it meant he had to be alone forever. His mother was no more, his father dishonored him,his step siblings hated him.He was alone raising his little brother. “A Child raising a Child” he went through so much hardship at such young age. He had to grew up an adult before he knew he was just a little boy. He had many people depend upon him at such young age. He couldnot just let himself get swept away and be carefree. He has responsibilities. If deva is ready kill and bury anyone before they try to even touch a strand of his beloved’s hair(lets say varadha😏), varadha is ready to give away his everything for his loved ones even if it means his life.)
an idea that I'm turning and turning over in my mind is JC already being the person into whose arms JL spent the most time before JYL's death.
JYL's grief over her husband's death translating into inability to care for her son the way she was going to, making her unable to connect - her husband's death at the hands of her brother of choice effectively sundering her. JC helplessly knowing his sister is suffocating and being unable to change it, simply trying to make it so that she can weather it until in time maybe she gets better. JYL's death meaning she never does.
Maybe JYL was at the pledge conference because she can barely stand to be in the same room as her crying infant son because she's hanging on by a thread and the best she can do is remove herself and attempt to breathe. How about it.
I saw it in your tag game post that you're also fond of the Apollo-Heracles conflict 👀 for a myth that appears in only a couple of sources, it sure has a lot of presence in the vase paintings (no seriously, everytime I think I've seen the last of it, I find ten more)
SO do you have any favorites among the paintings that represent this story??
OMG OMG THIS ASK IS A GIFT. IT IS A GIFT THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR LETTING ME TALK ABOUT THIS
I also think it's extremely interesting that it's a story so popularly portrayed by vase paintings and in such a variety of ways!! It's certainly one of the stories that gets left out of written compilation of Heracles' legend a bit (which is a shame, I think it's a fantastic story) but Apollo had a very peculiar relationship with Heracles in general that I just kind of find amazing (and very, very funny).
Apollo is not a god with any legitimate grudge against Heracles, but he does argue with the mortal a bit like he argues with his favourite brothers 😂Part of why I love the story of Apollo and Heracles fighting over the tripod so much is that it is such a little brother thing for Heracles to be upset with the proclamation his elder brother has given him and so, he throws a great fit, taking up the chair and declaring that he'll just give himself a better prophecy! And Apollo, instead of being a marginally professional big brother, decides to fight him for it until their father has to break up their cat-fight. Like was that not just the plot of the Homeric Hymn to Hermes? Is this not exactly how Apollo treated Hermes when he was a child and now those two are inseparable? 💀
Because of this, my favourite vase paintings tend to be the ones that highlight the personal squabbling between Apollo and Heracles the most. There are some very elaborate ones that have the full host of them - Athena, Heracles, Apollo, Artemis, usually a dog and a doe, I've even seen a couple that had birds and plants etched on them, but the simplest ones that show Heracles about to bonk Apollo with his club out of frustration or depict Heracles nyooming away from Apollo while Apollo (presumably) yells curses about how he's going to fling Heracles head first into Tartarus for daring to take his things? Yeah, those are the premium big brother/little brother things I'm looking for.

Also the one in the Theoi.com archives is a real classic - perfect energy.
After @yannig mentioned that there was a sequel to the Blooming Flowers, Silent Sorrow (MYATB novel) that features Siming and Jinbao, I had to investigate.
The sequel is called Jinbao Marries a Wife and is being translated here. I haven't started reading, so I don't know if it's getting a proper translation or it's MTL, but from what I can tell from a preliminary skim, it doesn't look like a copy and paste G translate job.
Until we can manifest a live action sequel into existence, this will have to do.
