The central idea of this scapegoat (the child who suffers in the benefit of the others) can be associated with the young victims of the Sewol tragedy. 

Omelas is Korea, a country which seems to be prosperous and full of happy people. Many South Koreans take pride in rising from postwar poverty to the developed country status. And in order to maintain this Utopical appearence, they would choose to forget the incident, or at least accept it as it is. But there are many others tormented by the painful memories.

The sinking of MV Sewol occurred on the morning of 16 April 2014, en route from Incheon to Jeju in South Korea. The ferry capsized while carrying 476 people, mostly secondary school students from Danwon High School (Ansan City). In all, 304 passengers and crew members died in the disaster.Of the approximately 172 survivors, more than half were rescued by fishing boats and other commercial vessels that arrived at the scene approximately 40 minutes after the South Korean coast guard.

Those episodes, and the Sewol sinking, have special resonance among South Koreans, as they highlight the corners that were cut regarding safety in the country's rush to develop economically after being decimated in the 1950-53 Korean War. While many South Koreans take pride in rising from postwar poverty to developed country status, such mishaps serve as a painful reminder of how far there still is to go.

Victims' families and their supporters are pushing for a thorough investigation into the causes of the Sewol sinking, arguing that aspects of how and why the vessel went down, and why such a large portion of the 476 passengers died, haven't been clarified.

Experts say it is normal for victims to seek a clear understanding of the details of a traumatic episode before moving on.

"We had a collective death of our kids, our friends, our brothers and sisters. It is no wonder that we question how this happened," said Ansuk Jeong, a PhD in community psychology and lecturer in the University of Utah's psychology department.

After uniting the country two years ago (2014), the Sewol sinking has mostly faded from the South Korean public agenda.

At the end of June (2016), the state investigative commission's mandate expired, and its task now is to write a report based on findings collected so far through interviews with survivors and rescuers.

But the commission members say they haven't had enough time to thoroughly investigate, and need the government to allocate the commission more budget so it can investigate further, through interviews and parsing of official documents.

Some have argued that the government is trying to brush the painful episode aside.

Omelas is a joyful city, however not Utopian. The narrator is the one to highlight that civilians are not "bland utopians" or "simple folk" or "dulcet shephers". And within this wonderful city, where everybody is happy, a dark secret lies. While the people live their lives, a child is kept prisonier in a basement. The other children learn about this secret at the age of 8-12 years old, which is that because of the sufference of this one child, Omelas can continue to be a prosperous city.

"Some of them understand why, and some do not, but they all understand that their happiness, the beauty of their city, the tenderness of their friendships, the health of their children, the wisdom of their scholars, the skill of their makers, even the abundance of their harvest and the kindly weathers of their skies, depend wholly on this child's abominable misery."

However, at times, someone who learnt about the secret and saw the child, will choose not to go home, but to walk out of the city, through its gates. The narrator explains that "they seem to know where they are going, the ones who walk away from Omelas."

One of my favorite art pieces requested by my dear best friend @scarlattobrightstar Tim Burton's movie are a true delight Corpse Bride is a great choice and it fits for October. Duke as Victor and I have to say that his short black hair can pull perfect for a gothic romance also any black or gray suit fits him as a perfect groom and when Duke became a vampire he was awkward and frail he didn't became evil yet ~. My sona is dressed as Emily known as the corpse bride her story was tragic but yet beautiful of how she raise from the dead searching for the perfect groom to heal her broken heart. I has the idea of sticking with the color theme base of sona here's are different shades of red like Duke's color pallete. Emily's color pallete is different shades of blue even the bones. I also thought it be creative to the change the color of the corpse. This was quite fun and I did a background since it was a piece I was determined to make look nice taking a lovely stroll through the woods upon a red moon.

Welp I made it my Valentine's art for today. Valentine Vampair wanted to draw Duke's showdown outfit and it absolutely fits since it's red theme and very elegant suit and my sona wearing her dress from the tango her and Duke did a year ago from the DITYS ( Still up xD) I love these two so much and my self indulgence is what I need for Valentine's.
